Your want to be perceived as a good person, an ally or that you are a safe person isn’t as important as the need people have to be carful and wary of the people they talk to now for the four years. Because it’s been said before and I’ll repeat it here, they’re nothing more dangerous than a white woman’s tears, those have gotten people killed. So I need all the white ladies to understand that right now your need to be perceived as a good person is so far back in the list things to worry about.

There are people who have to be wary about who they talk to and associate with because apparently work in denaturalizing citizenship has already started, a historical black college has been burned down, I can only imagine worse is on the way in these next four years

If you really are a good person you don’t need to show it, when POC talk about white people or white women they can’t trust, you should know that isn’t you, and not take offence to, like how when women talk about all men, the men who are actually good people know they are who women aren’t talking about.

Basically, no one cares about you feeling like you need to have a physical representation or being a good person, and imo I feel like that just makes it easier for a MAGA lady to trick people if they were to actually trust that blue bracelet.

right after Trump was elected in 2016, suicidality skyrocketed. If you’re considering suicide in the wake of the election this year, at least wait until after it’s absolutely certain that he’s won - after every vote has been counted, every state certified, and maybe even after he’s been sworn in (IF he wins), just to make sure he doesn’t go to prison instead. if you’re considering suicide because you fear worsening material conditions, you might think a hotline can’t help with that. and it’s true that they can’t change legislation or promise you’ll be safe. but it’s worth double checking whether what you’re actually hurting from is in fact unfixable. right now, just getting through the emotions can help you regain a more objective view of the situation, and then you can work on surviving it. plus, when something bad happens, we tend to vastly overestimate how bad it will seem in the future, no matter how bad it actually is.

In my experience, it might take a few tries before you find a hotline that picks up, either because they’re so busy, or they’re closed at that time, or they simply don’t serve your location or demographic, so under the thingy I’ve listed more than just the same handful that tend to show up on other websites. Even if you’re not actively suicidal, you can talk to them about your hard feelings, ask for material resources, or just vent to a compassionate listener.

Alright, let’s open up this can of worms.

Let’s talk about race and how it pertains to Viv’s shows.

No, I don’t think Viv and Adam are inherently racist, they just don’t know how to write for a BIPOC audience.

Viv’s shows (Like most western shows) are written with a white audience in mind. Because let’s face it, white folks don’t like to talk about race. That’s why a lot of shows that do tackle the issue of race and racism do it in a way that’s very surface level, as they don’t want to make white folks uncomfortable.

Even shows that are written by BIPOC writers have to dumb everything down when it comes to race because that’s sadly one of the only ways to get white folks to listen.

For example the Brooklyn Nine Nine episode Moo Moo (Which was written by a black writer) does tackle the issue of racial profiling, but it does so in that after school special way. Where it’s so basic and surface level that it almost feels insulting? And the fact that the episode completely ignores all the systemic racism that’s prevalent in the NYPD somehow makes it even worse.

Seriously, the episode ends with Terry’s application for a liaison job getting denied because he filed a complaint against a racist cop. And Holt’s all like “At least you did the right thing.”

Now, I haven’t really talked about any of the Hazbin/Helluva lore in great detail because it’s a hot gigantic mess of titanian proportions. And trying to make any sense of it from a narrative perspective is headache inducing, but for the sake of this analysis I decided to make an exception.

It’s pretty obvious that the Imps are supposed to represent the lower class, the majority of Imps we see in the series are stuck with low level jobs, involved in shady activities or are willing to kill to survive.

A good writer would have used the concept to highlight the many injustices that are caused by systems that are hell bent on keeping systemic racism alive to ensure that white elites stay in power.

But Viv and Adam don’t give a shit about that, as they know that tackling those sorts of issues is bound to upset their white audience. So they just don’t bother.

The lore feels like set dressing, i.e something that’s only there to make the audience think that there is much more to Viv’s shows than meets the eye, but there really isn’t.

Helluva Boss’ racist class system is introduced, but it isn’t really all that fleshed out. Because Viv doesn’t really care about exploring themes that mirror real world issues, all she cares about is watching her characters fornicate or make out with each other.

Not saying that every adult show has to have a deeper meaning or challenge people’s worldviews, but having a toxic relationship between a slave and his slave master in a dumb demon cartoon is pretty fucked up, not going to lie.

When people say “just let people enjoy things!!!”

Look I’m sick of this cause I feel like it’s a complete and possibly deliberate misunderstanding of what the rest of the fandom keeps trying to criticize about the canyon.

I could not care less that people like izzy. If he’s your fave, go off. If you want to make posts jokingly calling him babygirl, who cares (i’m pretty sure that’s how the whole canyon thing started). If you don’t care about gentlebeard, that’s your right. Nobody, or at least most people criticizing the canyon are doing it because “they’re doing fandom wrong”

As the other anon pointed out, the canyon doesn’t just have different interpretations. They have constructed entire conspiracy theories about izzy, the cast, and the story. Some of them were completely convinced steddyhands would somehow be endgame. They’ve harassed trans/bipoc people in the wider fandom (there is actual proof for this). I believe there was a time after the season two finale when Vico went to an ofmd drag show and there was a part where DJ’s face was shown with Xs on his eyes.

Even if you ignore all the racist fic and meta, the canyon is just an extremely toxic group of individuals who can’t handle criticism.

Happy you’re enjoying my rants. I have never made this blog one for outright long-lasting negativity but this is an extremely exceptional case because of how big the fumble is.

The game reeks—STINKS—of white liberal queer Millennial who still hasn’t gotten it through their head that they will always, ALWAYS be white before they are queer. It’s the sort of person who was there for the rumbles and early development of third-wave feminism and emerging queer presence/acceptance, but they haven’t updated their understanding or means of handling these identities and ideas. The sort of person that “holds space” for BIPOC but still unconsciously conflates the white queer experience as the universal queer experience. Everything is still rooted in this very emotionally stunted arrested development that is very, very typical of Millennials and even affects some elder Gen Z. It’s the sort of solipsistic self-care, self-minding, ‘protect your peace’, ‘validate yourself’ that ironically requires a lot of external attention and constant affirmations for it to be effective. Like babes, at some point you need to learn how to be quietly okay with yourself sometimes. It’s literal dregs from the SJW era of tumblr.

I don’t give a shit that people think he’s got bad takes or has terrible ideas or opinions about the IP, David Gaider was one of the most vital, if not the most vital, pillars of Dragon Age, and his departure in 2016, and thus the loss of his influence and guidance and experience and talent, is what doomed Dragon Age 4. Former employees say that they were cooking with gas up until 2017 when Joplin was scrapped. Gaider not being at Bioware undoubtedly made any possible course correction that might have been able to make after Project Morrison (the live service pivot) was canned in 2021, impossible. I’m sorry, but some things and some people cannot be replaced. So many people go up to bat for Bioware employees and try to defend creatives by saying “well one person doesn’t make the game”, “well there are tons of talented people that can replace anyone”. APPARENTLY THE FUCK NOT. This argument completely ignores and disregards the indisputable reality that when it comes to ART, when it comes to WRITING, there are very, very few people in this world that are able to emulate another person’s style with 99% accuracy. Gaider wasn’t just a writer, he helped shape the interactive story elements, helped massage the tone and direction of the original Dragon Age trilogy. Worse still is that the Creative Directors for Veilguard were either too invested in their personal fantasies for what they wanted the game to be for them, or didn’t give a shit about the game to actually remain faithful to what made Dragon Age, Dragon Age. And of course the ringleader Gary McKay is the epicenter of this disaster, the General Manager for the studio since 2020.

Perhaps I am giving too much hate to Bioware employees and maybe by some crazy twist, they were forced to make utter cringe, but until everyone comes out with their memoirs, I’m choosing to interpret the information I have as uncharitably as possible because EA is a shit company, but Bioware isn’t innocent either.

I usually go by Sans or Charlie or my in-system name, Algae, however here you can also call me Kyubi or Sliptongue! Sliptongue is my Yokai Watch OC, when you are inspirited by it, it feels like your whole personality becomes just talking and talking, you also often find yourself drooling for some reason…

Sliptongue will often be the persona I play when answering on this blog, it is together with a version of Kyubi and I would appreciate that being respected. My pronouns are he/it/masculine neos, I am a butch trans non-binary man who is intersex and very, very white (aka. Will not make BIPOC terms because I have no place, happily will help people with templates) and my orientations aren’t really important here. Hey. Idk if this is me growing up or just being disillusioned with inter celebs etc. Im a 23 yr old trans man so I grew up and was inspired by chella on the YouTube community. But now I just…don’t like chella man anymore. I feel like…he became an industry plant? Over the pandemic asking fans for money to send to him directly to help others and not showing where the money was going exactly incident as well as just becoming older I noticed he seemed to almost want to become the next Keith haring or basquiat? He almost…now seems very fake? He takes deals with brands to be representation but doesn’t do much to call out certain brands for their faults etc.

I give Chella credit in that he was one of the few transmen that I looked up while I was young, especially with him being BIPOC. Showing him to my family helped them understand me. But that's where the inspiration kinda stops, because it was painful to be surrounded by years-in-transition trans men online when I was absolutely nowhere I wanted to be. That was a me problem tho. But I also didn't know much about his whole donation incident.

Ig heres what I have to say. It's not great to view other people as your justification of your morals. We don't know how people have had to live or how they live now, we don't know what decisions they have to make, and we dont know what kind of fears or goals they have. Chella is allowed to do whatever he wants with his art or his modelling career, just like how I genuinely believe anyone else in the world is capable of making the right decisions for themselves (even if we dont like those decisions!). Im not really concerned with figuring out if hes an industry plant or a "class traitor" (lol) or even if he's "fake". To be honest, I'm all for BIPOC folks getting their $. Does that mean I enjoy seeing wealthy BIPOC folk perpetuate classism and racism? No. Just cuz someone is succeeding for themselves doesn't mean people cant critique them. I guess what Im saying is I see waaay too many people online take the things they enjoy and the people they follow as projections of their morals: "no! stop [Insert celebrity name] you're being problematic and its makes us fans look bad!" Like....Okay lmfao. People are grown adults and are going to make decisions for themselves. Just because you might enjoy a celebrity does not mean your morals are based on how good of a person they are.

and youre allowed to not like the same things anymore just like how people are allowed to change, for better or for worse. I think within online communities there is way too much pressure on "looking" like a good person versus actually being one...because sometimes BEING a good person makes you look absolutely vile in terms of online spaces/communities love of isolating, removing, and deleting "problematic" (and vulnerable) people from their spaces with no trial, discussion, or attempt at conflict mediation. Yea yea I do think people have every right to be criticized just as they have every right to make whatever decision they want, but what Im trying to get at is to really stop viewing anyone with a platform as someone you can other once they dont meet your standards. This is not the same as denouncing or critiquing someone for really egregious behavior (white supremacy, harrassment, bullying, interpersonal violence). Once you kinda start living by your own morals without needing other people's actions/behaviors to justify/define them, you learn to focus on building connections rather than destroying them.

again, this is a much nuanced topic and you prolly werent expecting me to go into this. but ive grown over the years and have engaged in some nasty and vile mob mentality behavior that i just dont vibe with anymore. im not really the kind of person now to speculate online or publicly what other people are doing or should be doing or whether theyre problematic or not. I don't really care about Chella man or most celebrities rn. People r just gonna be people, and I will always have empathy for those of marginalized identities. i think the other thing (kind of going off of your point anon) is that people constantly demand him — and other minorities — to speak about every single thing happening in the world, but then when he does, they don’t actually want to listen to what he has to say.

although he has a habit of not thinking before he speaks, taika is a genius. when he gets going about his culture or filmmaking or any other topic he’s passionate about, his perspective is very insightful. but that doesn’t even matter because people only choose to hear what they want to hear.

and if he doesn’t give the perfectly crafted PR statement or notes app apology and actually dares to express some anger or frustration about how he and other minorities have been treated for not performing activism the way white teenagers on social media want him to, everything else he has to say is completely disregarded.

I could so see Smith being the first to bond and connect with them just cause u know. And beyond just decency and trying to get as much help as they can, I could see that influencing the Buckies decision to get to know them. Like edit that conversation in ur head, when Bucky says “what do u think of them” and Gale says “I don’t think anything of them” (which lowkey Gale WHAT do you mean by that 😧) and then Bucky says “I think you should” but maybe he follows that up with a little “Smith seems to like them”. Gale can just hum casually in response cause that girl likes everyone. But that certainly doesn’t stop him from having that conversation with Alex the next day. I like the idea of them respecting her enough to trust her judgement in character, even if she’s too kind for her own good.

Also, my second thought, Sanchez got shot down at the same time as Buck yes? So even if she got to the stalag at the same time as Smith, she’s had more of a time to process what happened to her. And I was rereading TWC and noticed that you put them in the same bunk when they first got there and a part of me was so sad for poor Smith to be away from everyone and not have much comfort but then I started thinking how Sanchez could’ve been such a comfort to her. Because first of all she’s. Not white. Which is comforting in its own way when being prisoner in a camp run by Nazis. But also, even if she and Smith don’t outright discuss what happened to them, I feel like she’d just. Be good with her you know? Like she’d know she was going through it and just try to be kind. Idk what those acts of kindness look like (knowing what I know so far about Sanchez, probably quite subtle) but. Maybe there’s a secret motivation for why Smith took care of her when she was on her period (beyond her being an angel).

The whole way the antagonism or simply the nebulous “never known someone like that before” aspect in camp was handled in the show was…interesting. Even if it’s subtle -which, with my headcanons for Sanchez they would be, she’s no bleeding heart nurturer- it still fully agree there was probably some interaction or solidarity there leading up to even Smith’s care during Sanchez’s period.

what annoys me re: the discourse on pedro is that he is clearly physically affectionate with his friends of all genders and like…that’s just how he is and it’s not “proof” of anything? someone can be any sexual orientation and have that trait lol. like I think he’s gay but not bc there’s a pic of him hugging a male friend or something and that’s when people can get really weird

Hi anon! Yeah, like at the end of the day, it’s obvious he’s physically affectionate with people he cares about and he has anxiety being perceived by so many people on the big stage despite being an A list actor. What frustrates me the most is that people will see Pedro around queer people or in queer spaces or even advocate for members of the LGBTQAI community and by association he’s automatically assumed to be queer, or if he’s around “straight” people then now he’s apparently straight and only likes women. It doesn’t make sense.

My point is: literally what difference does this make? How does this impact anything in the grand scheme of things? And I get how the possibility of Pedro being queer would be huge for some people’s identities, I understand that as a queer person myself. But a huge part of “queerness” involves 1 - not assuming things about people until they explicitly tell you and 2 - to not box people into certain categories based on your own biases or assumptions. Trying to put Pedro into a specific box based on his behavior or who’s in his circle is the same thing people do to assume someone is gay for the sake of targeting them, and internal biases are harmful on a general scale. Additionally, not all queer people have the same experiences, white queers live a very different reality to BIPOC queer individuals and some of them don’t understand that their queerness doesn’t take away from their whiteness, same way how some white gay men can still be misogynistic and enforce patriarchal norms. People need to realize that, especially if we’re talking about someone who has Pedro’s background, history, and appearance.

There’s so many other things people can be talking about or spending their precious time on, but instead they want to dissect someone’s sexual preferences based on other people’s pictures & videos and quantify the percentage of who they’ll bring into the bedroom when there’s no chance they’ll even cross their path. Like I’ve said before, people have a parasocial obsession with that man, we don’t know him, it’s strange and borderline deranged. Everyone should just leave him alone and stop having his sexuality and who he’d sleep with be the sole talking point when it comes to him. He’s a human being, not a fucking ken doll. And that’s all I really want to say on that.

I might appreciate Memorial Day more

If I didn’t start the weekend by performing at a Memorial Day service

Where I had to sit quietly and listen to a man, who passed laws denying trans kids health care, talk about the soldiers who gave their lives to guarantee freedom “for all people”

Apparently, not trans kids

And probably not the trans woman my brother served with either, if this man got his way

Where I’m expected to stand for prayer after prayer to the christian god

So apparently not pagans or people of other religions either. Could have at least invited a rabbi or something to diversify it a little? I wouldn’t mind standing so much then.

I go because I honestly believe those kids who died fighting in conflicts caused by the rich and powerful deserve to be remembered and honored. Their death didn’t have to happen, but it did.

And if adding my voice to 2 songs helps give them some crumb of the respect they deserve for that, then cool. I’ll go sit in the hot sun and try not to be too upset at the politicians who’s words feel like a slap

I listen to an old bell ring as each of this past year’s deaths are read out

And I sit quietly at home with the paper poppy I was given to wear at the service thinking I’m lucky that my grandfather, cousin, and brother all came back

I think about how my brother would still fight to protect me if it came to that and it very well may because of that rich and powerful man

I think of how lucky my family is that none of my uncles got sent out at one point, barely squeaking by as too young for the draft back in the 60’s and 70’s

I spend it this way not because how others do is “wrong” but because I’m an introvert and the ceremony I sing at exhausts me. Listening to the rich powerful man who thinks kids like me shouldn’t exist exhausts me. Hearing my neighbors around me exhausts me. And so I prefer to stay inside where the noise is slightly muted.

Because with the state of our freedom, it doesn’t feel sincere

It should feel like a feast in Valhalla, but it doesn’t. Not to me.

And I wonder how the gold star families spend this day. How they feel. Do they celebrate or mourn? Both?

Do they listen to the rich powerful man’s speech and silently fume like I do?

Do they think their dead kid deserves more than a half packed service on a Friday afternoon?

Are the speeches and Christian centric prayers and wreaths and horses and bells and chair enough for them?

Do they have a trans kid their loved one died for who isn’t being protected despite that sacrifice?

I look into the audience and see several BIPOC families. Are they angry because they aren’t being protected either despite their loved ones death in trying to ensure their safety and freedom?

Idk. I don’t have the answers to any of this.

I’m part Geek Cypriot as an American who didn’t get a chance to grew up in that culture and family it’s quite sad and unfortunate. But even then I still have Americanized view on Greek culture because I grew up in America in American culture and way of thinking.

I’m trying my best to connect to my heritage and ancestry by realizing the misconceptions and misunderstandings about Greeks and their culture is one of them. I’m sure this goes to Italians as well. I don’t mind retellings of Greek myths or stories but as along it’s respectful and appropriate to the gods and the culture from which they came. I understand not all deities originated from Greece/Hellas but they have been deeply ingrained into Hellenism and take recognition that Greek mythology and literature and the religion is also deeply rooted in Hellenic culture still to this day. There are many people in Greece and her distant islands including Cyprus are still practitioners of Hellenic polytheism.

I loved Percy Jackson especially the OG series it will always have a special place in my heart BUT Rick though I love his inclusiveness to many minorities of BIPOC and LGBTQ+ he didn’t involve anything that was Greek except the mythology which isn’t the only thing revolving around in Greece, I would love a demigod who was an actual Hellene in PJO universe yes Nico is Italian but Greeks and Italians are similar but not the same even in ancient times, it’s like Irish people and Scottish people are the same people when they have similar cultures but still their not identical. Like besides the Gods and monsters I would like to see an actual Greek demigod in a story about Greek mythology who grew up in that culture, knows the language, the food, the people, etc. I don’t know it’s my two cents. I recently gotten into an argument with brain dead people saying “it doesn’t apply to me since I don’t practice Hellenic polytheism or I am not Greek.” Or “These are fictional stories of fictional characters in the first place so who cares.” which is absolutely ridiculous because myths are part of our culture and shouldn’t be appropriate by people who want to write smuts and thirst traps believe in what you want ofc but fucking respect the damn fact it’s someone’s cultures and values. I really want to write a story centered around Greek mythology and such but I don’t want to be disrespectful even I as part Hellene I understand that but it’s still who I am and I’m proud of it and if I ever do make stories centered around Greek mythology I’ll do my damn hardest to do it Justice.

Ah, sure, no trouble! The thing is, I have several posts on this matter. Time to make a masterpost. Some disclaimers first:

1) The blogs I reblog from, I don’t agree in everything with them. I also can’t look up every blog I’ve ever reblogged from. 2) Greeks are not mad at Americans for not knowing. (You can’t expect someone to automatically know things for other countries so far away from them). The problem is most Americans don’t research or even realize that they have to research, since they are absorbed in their own country’s affairs only. Probably because of their country’s power and self-reliance, some Americans have a hard time comprehending in depth how other cultures differ from theirs. 3) This also goes for countries who have been and are big powers. It’s mostly the UK, Germany, Austria, France, Australia and Canada (perhaps). There is a certain amount of privilege these countries have and they can more easily forget to check if the information they are served from the media or their friends about Greek mythology is correct.

The problem is that they don't know it and that this knowledge isn't available to them). They also falsely use the word "Hellenismos" as a name for their religion. Meanwhile, "Hellenismos" always meant "Greek people and culture". (Another linguistic knowledge not available. And nobody cares to ask Greeks about it) Post

In the book Receiver of Many (from a US American author) there were many weird things, including Persephone not knowing what her name meant. (reminder: she speaks the language her name is from :p) There were so many inaccuracies I had made a whole post about it but I got tired and deleted it, together with my memories of it :p

In the book Circe the hero Odysseus and his crew become rapists to further develop Circe’s story. This invalidates both Circe and the beloved hero of the Greeks for millennia. (Odysseus wasn’t a saint but making him a rapist is not respectful either). The author, Madeline Miller also said in an article that she continues (!!!) the Greek mythology and the article compared her to Homer. Madeline Miller is a US American with a BA and MA in Latin and Ancient Greek, and has been teaching both for almost a decade. If a person with such knowledge is doing this, it makes me feel that we really have no hope with the rest. 

Rick Riordan being culturally inclusive but surprisingly NOT inclusive to Greeks, in a series talking about Greek mythology. I don’t recall dances, food, customs and relatable things in the Percy Jackson series. What is more, some portrayals of the gods are questionable. And Apollo’s surname is Christian Orthodox and means “Priest’s Child”. Which is weird and shows that the amount of research on his surname lasted less than ten seconds. This Post shows how it would be to have some Hellenismos (Greekness) in the Percy Jackson series.

Lore Olympus, holy f*ck, where do I begin.... (The author is from New Zealand where you can find Greek people and communities, and is also very active on social media where she could have found Greeks and ask them)

So I watched H. Hotel, for free- love the multitude of websites available to do so.

Firstly… clearly they can manage to animate an Afro, plus they had no problem giving Velvette like… 4 different hairstyles, which I LOVE, but also… so… they can do it… so why don’t they? Instead of claiming that like 1/4 of the characters are black, while there is no indication of such in character design, such as their facial features or hair… make characters who are clearly black? Even POC in general?

Like yeah they do struggle with that, anyone can see that if they bother to look.

For example… Val. He’s black. Now of course there are black Latinos, but… I ain’t the only person rubbed wrong by the fact that they made the rapist abusive pimp a black man. Dude could have just as easily been a white guy who speaks Spanish. Ain’t like there is ANYTHING in his character design that says “bro is black” dude got a flat bug (literal, p sure he’s supposed to be a moth?) face, no hair, nothin.

Another one that has been beat to death is Al. Al? With his early 2000s vibe straight yet fluffy hair? Is black. Bc… they wanted to give him a reason to use… voodoo. Plus, the design of him bearing a strong resemblance to the media’s common interpretation of a w3ndigo? Bro could have just as easily been a white dude messin around with shit he shouldn’t have been messing with!!! They’re DEMONS AND SINNERS IN HELL!!!

Those angels are judgmental af, that would just be another tally against Al. Plus I don’t think we are (or should) be able to just fully agree with everything the demons and the sinners in hell do/have done. They are bad people. They were bad people on earth, that’s why they’re THERE. So why make a character who is visually white coded, a black character just so you can have them practice voodoo? Make dude some white pagan who was doin some fucked up shit on the side to boot. Boom, bro still maintains the magic that I presume followed him after death resulting in his quick climb to power.

Honestly it almost makes it worse that if they cared they really could make some amazing BIPOC, I’ve seen plenty of redesigns that look great and still in style for the show (not just in like… art style, like I’ve seen folks draw in the style of a show yet still do “too much” so it kinda stops resembling the more simplistic style?? But truly in the same style) yet they haven’t, considering how the story, and PERSONALLY the writing, ain’t half bad.

Yeah still plenty of the “jokes” are just about sex. Bc apparently that’s the only form of humor adults have?? Putting things in holes, threatening to fuck others… like, come on. They’re rarely actually funny, often times seeming almost forced? They could more easily fit in a dead baby joke honestly, than the amount of sex/assault jokes they do make.

Other than that tho… if, you can hold those things in one hand, and then look at what is left… it isn’t bad. The animation ain’t bad, the story is decent, the character development and growth is good, to me. I enjoyed it.

Still ain’t gonna catch me payin money to watch it, and if that means it doesn’t get a second season then such is life.
