- Sol proudly shows off the new trees.
So I finally picked up the baby ginkgo tree from my great aunt, but was surprised by two! Yes, apparently a branch she pruned off her main tree began to sprout a few weeks ago (the one on the left). It was almost going to be tossed into a wood pile to cure. Most specimens don't propagate this way, the one on the right needed to be dusted in a root hormone to start it up, and it was cut when the leaves were already developed. The left one was a bare branch! My aunt told me that one is going to be the strongest of the two, because it was so desperate to save itself, it grew leaves almost overnight. It has a strong will to survive.
Because it's too late to plant them, and they're still so young, she went ahead and put them into pots bonsai style for me (she herself cultivates juniper bonsai). I'm tempted to keep one in a pot indoors, as ginkgos are pretty popular as bonsai, though the maintenance to keep them dwarfed is tedious, as their roots are notorious for breaking through earthen pots or getting root bound in plastic ones. And they have to be repotted and pruned every five years. Yeeeeah...I think I'll go ahead and find places to put them in my yard instead. They'll have complete freedom to grow however they like.
Another thing to consider is the gender. It's too early to tell if they're male or female, and they are capable of changing gender throughout their lives. Why is this concerning? Because the female throws out some of the most rancid smelling fruit you can imagine. I remember visiting my aunt in the fall, and her tree, being female at the time, threw out a bunch of little yellow fruits everywhere that smelled like vomit. But she collected them, put them in a bucket filled with soil, and let them rot outside in order to get at the seed. The seed is edible and...well, really tasty when roasted! She'd give me a few peeled ones to take home. You do have to eat them in moderation, as they contain a trace amount of cyanide (much like cherries pits), probably no more than 12 seeds.
The leaves can be used as a tea regardless of the tree's gender, and as a child I hated to drink it when I visited her because it tasted like grass. But as an adult, I now appreciate the earthy flavor. It's supposedly aids in memory function. Not sure if that's true, but considering my great aunt is 100 years old, still physically active, and sharp as a whip, maybe there's some truth to it. I guess I'll find that out when I collect the leaves from my own little trees.
So there we go! My new additions to my plant collection. I hope I can take care of them properly, these are technically an heirloom.

This Is Fate- Part 4
So I wasn't going to post this today but I suddenly got very excited at the thought of finally posting for this Dark! Evan Buckley series again.
I don't know if anyone will still be interested in this series, probably not, but any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Evan Buckley Masterlist
Series Masterlist
Summary: Eddie is surprised when his little sister comes to LA, pregnant, and asks to stay with him. She needs a fresh start away from her ex, but things take a bad turn when she finds out her ex works with her brother. And he won't let her go so easily.
Enjoy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Do you fancy going to get a coffee?"
There was something about Maddie that felt safe. Something that made (Y/n) feel calm and at ease and like she was around someone she could trust.
She glanced down at her phone, wincing when she saw the few messages she had gotten from Evan. He wanted to see her and (Y/n) didn't know how many times she could put him off before he decided to turn up on the doorstep unannounced. But (Y/n) didn't want to worry about that right now, and she had an hour to kill before she needed to go and pick Chris up from school, a coffee with Maddie wouldn't be too bad.
"Sure."
She followed Maddie out of the call centre. It was strangely comforting that their shifts seemed to line up these past few weeks, they had lunch together on their breaks, they chatted in the break room and they got along really well. (Y/n) finally had someone here in LA who was her friend, not just her big brother and his team or her ex- if Evan could still be classed as her ex.
If she was being truthful, she didn't know what Evan was to her anymore, but it had to be more than an ex. She was having his baby. She was being drawn back into the web he created around her to keep her close and this baby was going to stop her from ever getting completely free from him. But (Y/n) didn't help the situation.
She still found herself drawn to Evan like a moth to a flame, it was inevitable. There was a string of fate drawing them both together and (Y/n) couldn't get away from him even if she wanted to. She had barely been back a week and she found herself in bed with him again and now, when she met with him at his apartment to talk or just catch up, she always found him wrapped around her like a blanket.
A warmth spread through (Y/n) bones and stopped her mind from racing away without her when Maddie looped their arms together and they walked into the coffee shop just around the corner from work.
When each of them had their respective drinks, Maddie an iced coffee and (Y/n) a mint hot chocolate- something the baby craved a lot recently- they moved over to a small table in the corner.
(Y/n) could have melted when she sat down in the cosy pink chair that felt like she was sitting on a feather pillow. It was a lot comfier than the desk chairs they sat at all day long at the call centre. Being sat down all day was good so (Y/n) wasn't always on her feet with the baby, but it didn't exactly help her back. Or her circulation that seemed to cut off when she sat down.
She sank back into the chair, dipping her head down when Maddie smiled sweetly from where she sat opposite her.
Her hand moved to absentmindedly glide across her stomach, something she had been doing rather a lot since it became noticeable. It also happened to be something that Evan always did whenever he was around her. And Chris had taken to touching her bump too, very excited to have a little girl in the family soon. "So, how have you been?" Maddie relaxed against the arm of her chair and crossed one leg over the other, nursing her coffee between her hands despite how cold it made her fingertips become.
"Good… busy, Chris has been helping me buy a few things."
It had cheered (Y/n) up immensely last week when she and Chris went out and he started pointing out baby clothes that he thought would suit his cousin. They ended up getting quite a few things ready and (Y/n) was slowly starting to get used to the fact that quite soon, she was going to become a mother.
Chris and Eddie were both under the same impression; (Y/n) would be staying with them for the foreseeable future.
Eddie didn't want her to get a place of her own yet when she wasn't settled and was still anxious. He and Chris loved her company, they were one big family together and he didn't want (Y/n) to rush around, if she had the baby Eddie wouldn't kick her out. He wanted her to stay.
"Have you told your folks yet?"
"At the weekend, it went better than expected." (Y/n) knew Maddie saw the grimace cross her face as she spoke.
Eddie had done as promised and explained the situation to their parents over FaceTime. They had the reaction (Y/n) expected. Shock, panic, then they begged (Y/n) to go back home to Texas with them or go back to staying with Chrissy to be closer to the rest of their family.
It was hard to explain to them that she was settled here in LA, she had friends, she had Eddie and Chris and she wanted to stay. But at least her parents hadn't gotten into the conversation about her ex. They hadn't asked if he knew, where he was, what he thought about all of this. They knew (Y/n) had a bad relationship and they figured she moved to LA to do this on her own.
Oh, how wrong they had all been.
"That's good."
(Y/n) could feel herself relaxing more and more and for the first time since she moved here, she finally felt like she had a friend. She had someone she could talk to who wasn't her overly worried brother or her brother's friends. Maddie wasn't someone on Eddie's team who (Y/n) had to watch what she said around.
Granted, she was closer to Evan than anyone else here, but she was still separate. Maddie felt impartial to (Y/n), someone she could keep to herself like a little secret. Someone she could talk to freely, to an extent, who didn't look worriedly at her or like she was making mistakes.
Maddie didn't look at her with panic and sympathy like Eddie and she didn't have that possessive streak like Evan.
She wanted to get to know (Y/n), they were friends.
(Y/n) began drawing her fingertip around the rum of her cup that was practically empty, save a few dregs of chocolate mix at the bottom and remnants of cream. She slouched down a little more, feeling the baby kick every now and then as they seemed to have come to life in the last twenty minutes.
"Can I ask you something?" Maddie pursed her lips and tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. The soft creases around her eyes as she smiled made (Y/n) feel at ease and like this wasn't something to worry about.
"Sure."
"Are you and Buck, involved?"
A surge of panic shot through (Y/n)'s chest and rippled all the way to her heart. She did her best to steel her expression and make sure not a single muscle twitched in her face and gave away the terror that was now gripping her completely.
Why would she ask that?
(Y/n) had never once uttered Evan's name in Maddie's presence. She had been on edge at work for the first few shifts with Maddie in case she said something and let slip that she knew Evan. But after that, she relaxed. His name never came up except in passing and (Y/n) never commented about him. Why would Maddie suddenly guess something like that?
"What?" Her voice was controlled and as calm as she could muster, but she could feel her fingertips going cold as her hands started to feel numb and shaky.
"Buck told me you two knew each other, before you moved here. The way he smiles when he talks about you makes him light up, but Eddie doesn't know you know each other. I just, I wondered if that's because you two are together?"
Oh God.
He had spoken to Maddie.
He promised!
Evan promised he would let (Y/n) have the call centre to herself, something she didn't have to divuldge with him, a place where he wouldn't hang around like he used to at her old job. She wouldn't finish work and find Evan waiting for her like before, she wouldn't have him checking what shifts she was working or who she was working with.
When someone at her old job asked her out and subsequently got a bit too close to (Y/n), Evan threatened him and ended up punching him. She didn't want that happening here.
She wanted work to be a safe space where she didn't have to think about Evan at all. She wanted Maddie to be included in that, someone she could talk to and confide in and have a friend in rather than a conspirator.
But if Evan was talking to his sister about (Y/n), then that meant he would use Maddie to keep tabs on (Y/n). He would ask subtle things, check in on her, know what shifts she was working and who she was working with and how she was getting on. He would know every aspect of her day like he used to and that made him worse. Because if Evan got to that point again, he would keep tabs on her and then if he didn't know what she was doing, he got manic.
He got desperate and started to worry she was trying to leave him or deliberately avoiding him.
(Y/n) ran a shaky hand through her hair as she desperately tried to think of a response. What was she supposed to say? If she said no and Maddie relayed that to Evan, it would upset him, it would spark a row. If she said yes, she was giving in to him and his demands. If she said yes, she was making herself isolated.
She wouldn't be able to talk to Maddie anymore, the dynamic would change and Maddie would become family, no longer just an impartial friend.
"I… I didn't tell Eddie, they're friends, I d- I didn't want to…"
"I get it, when I got together with Chimney, it did feel awkward with him being friends with Buck and all."
She had to get her story straight. (Y/n) had to know what to say because it would have to be the same story she relayed to other people. To Eddie. She had no idea what to tell Eddie and if Maddie somehow spoke to Eddie in passing and mentioned anything, Eddie would get suspicious.
She didn't realise she had been dwelling in her thoughts for so long until Maddie's hand softly rested on her arm.
"Is he the father?" Her eyes darted down to (Y/n)'s stomach and the spark of hope in her eyes made (Y/n)'s eyes well up with tears.
She couldn't find her voice, but she managed to nod. Evan would tell her anyway. If he was laying the seeds all around and telling Maddie they were together, he would undoubtedly tell her the baby was his. This was his way of making sure (Y/n) didn't try and disappear with the baby. If everyone knew, she couldn't make a quick exit like she had back home with Chrissy.
"Oh, this is so lovely. Buck's always wanted kids, and I'm gonna be an aunt, oh." Her free hand moved to her chest as tears overwhelmed her eyes. Maddie had always heard her little brother remarking how he wanted kids, he wanted to raise them the way Maddie had loved and raised him. He wanted to be a better parent than their parents had been.
She knew he would be a good dad and a baby in the family would be so lovely. Plus, now that Maddie was close to (Y/n), it made everything even better that they were all so closely knitted together into a family.
"Don't- please don't tell Eddie. We, we want to make it special." God, she was making things worse for herself. (Y/n) was digging a bigger hole that she wouldn't be able to get out of, but she had to buy herself some time.
"Of course I won't. I'm sure he'll love the news."
When Maddie looked up and realised tears were trickling down (Y/n)'s face, panic and alarm flooded her features. She gripped (Y/n)'s arm tighter and shuffled closer, leaning over the coffee table to try and find out what she had done wrong.
"I- did I say something-"
"No, no… I just, he's protective. An ex was, he was frightening me, and I- I go to Eddie when something's wrong. I hate worrying him, I want to make him proud."
She wasn't sure if she was making much sense, but Maddie squeezed her arm and nodded all the same.
There was no way to explain without letting Maddie know that her brother had a darker side that no one else had witnessed. She could hardly tell Maddie that Evan used to stalk her at work, he punched people who got too close to her, he would call and text incessantly and need to know where she was going. She couldn't explain that Evan wouldn't let her breathe on her own or be out of his sights for longer than an hour.
She couldn't explain how suffocating he had become unless she wanted to upset everyone and ruin everyone's lives.
But what was she going to do now?
(Y/n) had the choice of either lying to everyone and living the fantasy Evan was trying so hard to create. Or she could try and tell everyone the truth and shatter so many lives in the process.
Eddie would never look at his best friend the same way again and he wouldn't be around Evan or let Evan near (Y/n) because Eddie had heard what (Y/n)'s ex had done to her and he wouldn't let it continue. Maddie would be scarred for life and would have a fractured relationship with her brother. Chimney, Hen and Bobby wouldn't know how to go forward.
The dynamic within the team would forever be changed, and it would be all (Y/n)'s fault. And if she told people, then she would have to have this baby on her own which was something Evan would never allow.
He would fight everyone to be in his daughter's life, and (Y/n) didn't dare think what extent he would go to in order to get what he wanted.
"I know it must feel like you're hiding away or letting people down, but trust me when I say you aren't. Eddie will be proud of you for getting up every day and pushing forward, and it always gets better."
"But I let it happen, I always let things happen-"
"So did I." Those words trickled through (Y/n)'s ears like they were coated in sugar and when she looked up, she realised Maddie was almost crying. "I let my ex-husband make all the decisions, I stayed with him and let him ruin so many things. But his behaviour wasn't my fault, and I got away. Buck saved me in so many ways, and now you've gotten away, and we'll all help you. Buck thinks your so special, he'll look after you."
It was overpowering just how right Maddie was at the same time that she was undoubtedly wrong.
Her words were somewhat comforting but also frightening.
(Y/n) had gotten away, but Evan being here in LA put her back at the start again and she couldn't run away from him. But she didn't know how to move forward with him either when she was lying to so many people, and to herself.
Here was someone she felt close to, someone so kind offering her comforting words and friendship and discretion, and (Y/n) was lying to her. She wasn't able to tell Maddie the whole truth and she couldn't tell Eddie either no matter how badly she wanted to.
Everything was falling apart when (Y/n) was trying so hard to hold the broken pieces together.
What was she going to do?
***
Evan's apartment didn't look as unruly as last time. She let her eyes wander around the kitchen while Evan busied himself making them each a drink. She felt a little bit calmer being here this time.
(Y/n) wasn't sure why she felt so calm considering this was Evan's territory and if he wanted to lock the door and somehow prevent her from leaving, he had every opportunity. But that was just (Y/n)'s imagination running away without her. She had come here because he wanted to talk and she couldn't keep avoiding him.
The longer they didn't sort this whole situation out, the worse (Y/n) was starting to feel. She couldn't keep lying to Eddie. Not when it was eating her alive and every passing day made her panic that Evan would say something and all Hen would unleash.
They had to get this situation sorted, they had to work out what they were going to do and if they were going to tell Eddie the truth or come up with something plausible he would accept.
Leaning forward, (Y/n) arched her lower back out and folded her arms on the counter. She felt like she could fall asleep standing up. With anxiety eating away at her, she was finding it hard to sleep and then she was busy and coordinated at work which left her feeling even worse and drained of her last reserves.
She rubbed her palm over her eyes, trying to wake herself up and she glanced over her shoulder when she felt Evan walk behind her to get the milk from the fridge.
His hand danced across the small of her back as he passed her and when he leaned down to kiss the top of her head, a shiver coursed down her spine. If she closed her eyes, (Y/n) could almost imagine she had gone back a year. Back to where Evan had an apartment across town from Chrissy and where (Y/n) ended up spending most of her time. Back when Evan had been the best thing in the world to her.
Why couldn't things have worked out? Why couldn't they have managed to stay together? If Evan's temper and control issues had been curbed, they could have moved down to LA together with their own place and their own little family. Their friends and families would have been happy and knitted together properly, everything would have been perfect.
She smiled softly when Evan placed a cup of decaf coffee in front of her and finished off making himself a strongly caffeinated one. But when she glanced up at the calendar pinned to the side of the fridge, her eyes narrowed.
He had drawn a small red heart on next Tuesday's date, along with a time. 12pm.
That was the date and time of her next scan; something she specifically hadn't told Evan about yet.
How did he know that?
"Evan…" She couldn't quite find the words, so she tapped her finger against the date instead. (Y/n) didn't want to accuse him of anything and be wrong, or worse still, be right and see that controlling side of him come into play.
"What?" His eyes narrowed slightly and he shrugged his shoulders, not sure what she was trying to ask. "Your appointment," He waved his hand as if it was obvious and leaned his hips back against the counter while he took a large gulp of coffee.
"You knew?"
"Eddie said he's taking you."
(Y/n)'s teeth sank down into her lower lip and she nursed her cup between her hands, letting the warmth ward off the adrenaline trying to gather in her stomach. She didn't want to argue, but Evan had to know what if Eddie said he was taking (Y/n), then Evan couldn't go. How would they explain that to Eddie? And they couldn't just say Evan had offered to take her instead, Eddie would be suspicious why his friend was trying to help his sister who Evan supposedly barely knew.
"I'll be off shift in the afternoon, so you can let me know how it goes."
(Y/n) was a little more than surprised that Evan wasn't pushing harder to be there, that he wasn't going to try and get a shift swap or finish early to be there. He had been eager to go to the last one and he told her before that he wanted to be at every appointment and see how their daughter was developing. He didn't want to miss a thing.
Knowing he was going to give in on this one and let Eddie take her made (Y/n) feel a bit better. If he could just keep doing this, being considerate instead of controlling, they might be able to find a way to move forward instead of going round in circles.
"Sure." She nodded and managed a small smile as Evan pushed off the counter and motioned towards the dining table so they could sit down and talk.
(Y/n) gathered her cup and slowly followed after him. She watched as he sat down and nudged the chair next to him with the heel of his boot so it was pushed out ready for her to sit down.
She set her cup down next to her bag that was laid in the middle of the table but when she slowly eased down, her hand moved to cradle the side of her stomach, causing Evan's brows to knit together.
"You okay?"
His head leaned to one side and he inched closer to her until their knees bumped together. But he was taken by surprise when (Y/n) reached out for his hand. Evan wasn't sure what she was doing until she softly tugged his wrist closer and pressed his palm against the underside of her stomach.
The baby was kicking. Evan pushed his palm a little firmer against her abdomen while his fingers started to tap against her skin, letting the excitement rattle through him in waves. His thumb started to stroke across her stomach as he leaned closer, resting his left arm on the table to balance himself so he didn't fall too far forward into (Y/n).
He liked this feeling.
That was his little girl.
Even after the kicking ceased and she settled down again, Evan kept his hand there for a few extra moments when (Y/n) didn't push him away or seem to mind.
The thought of missing out on this made his skin crawl. If he didn't live in LA, if Eddie didn't live here, if she had gone back to her parents rather than coming all the way out here or if she stayed with Chrissy. If any of those things happened, Evan wouldn't have had a clue he was going to have a daughter. He wouldn't have known anything until he went back there to find (Y/n) and found out too late.
Or if she'd had the baby and Eddie had shown pictures round the station. Evan knew his temper would have flared if that had happened.
It had been fate that (Y/n) was Eddie's sister and had come down to LA at the exact time that she did. Fate was finally on Evan's side for once, fate was agreeing with him. It knew he wanted this, he wanted a family, and now he had it. He wasn't letting (Y/n) take this away from him.
"She's happy," Evan murmured softly, and he couldn't help but lean over and peck the top of (Y/n)'s bump.
"She's always lively, lately."
(Y/n) reached for her cup and took a few sips while she slouched back in her seat and tried to get comfy, something that seemed inevitable lately.
A comfortable silence enveloped them for a while as they sipped their drinks, and when Evan kept one hand on her bump, (Y/n) didn't pull away or have the heart to move him. She slumped her right elbow on the table and then stretched her hand out when her phone buzzed in her bag.
It would probably be Eddie asking if she was alright, he would of finished his shift by now and realised she wasn't at home. He was a worrier just lately and he knew the only person (Y/n) would be out and about with was either Chris or Maddie. He liked to make sure she was okay.
She set about sending a quick response, praying Eddie didn't have any contact with Maddie and that she and Chimney hadn't gone out anywhere right now. Or else Eddie might find out she was lying to him and that was the last thing she needed.
"What's this?"
(Y/n) almost didn't feel Evan's hand slipping away from her stomach but when she lifted her eyes from her phone, she could feel her blood running cold and another kick jostled her stomach.
He couldn't help himself. Evan had seen a few pieces of paper she'd folded up in her bag and before (Y/n) could try and explain, Evan was already reaching into her bag for them to see what it was.
The only reason those printouts were in her bag was so they weren't lying around Eddie's home. (Y/n) couldn't have those laid about the house because Evan was a frequent guest and she specifically didn't want him to see.
"I- I'm looking at a few places nearby." She set down her drink and her phone on the table, but when she tried to take the pieces of paper from Evan, he leaned back in his chair and lifted his arm out of her reach.
They were apartment listings in Eddie's area, across town from Evan.
If (Y/n) was going to try and make a home for herself here in LA, then she had to start looking for a place of her own. She couldn't live with Eddie and Chris forever, despite how comforting and safe she felt being with them. She needed a place of her own to raise her daughter, but she wanted to be close by her family like when Eddie used to live in Texas and had been around the corner from her.
(Y/n) hadn't told Evan or wanted him to find out because she didn't want him to know yet. She knew there was no logical way she could keep him from finding out where she lived. If she moved and Evan asked Chris, her nephew would tell Evan outright. If he asked Eddie in passing or brought it up, Eddie wouldn't see Evan as a threat and would tell him.
If Evan pushed and ended up being involved in their daughter's life then he would have to know where they lived. But she just didn't want to tell him yet, not until she found somewhere and was settled and until she knew if Evan could be trusted.
"Why? This is our baby, you should stay here with me, you can't do this alone."
He tossed the scraps of paper next to her bag and reclined in his seat, crossing one leg over the other as he arched a brow at her. The way he sat with his left arm on the table and his right hand cradling his cup close to his chest made Evan look relaxed, but that wasn't how he felt.
He could feel adrenaline coursing through his stomach and igniting in his chest. If he was going to help and be involved, it was logical that they live together. (Y/n) couldn't do this alone and Evan wasn't about to let that happen.
"I'm not alone, I've got Eddie."
"You know that's not the same. She's my girl too, it'd be better her dad looking after her than her uncle. Come on, just think about it, for me?" That smooth, sugary tone in Evan's voice made (Y/n) coil an arm around her waist, resting her trembling hand on her bump.
She couldn't. She couldn't get back into Evan's grasp unless she knew for certain that he wasn't going to be as menacing, conniving and controlling as he had been before. She wouldn't put herself or her daughter through that mess again. Evan had to prove himself if he wanted any chance at co-parenting or being in a relationship again.
"I'm safe there-"
"You really think I'd hurt either of you?" His lips curved into a lopsided grin that used to make (Y/n)'s stomach erupt with butterflies and had her giggling and melting in his grasp.
She squirmed in her chair, sitting up straighter to click her back into place while she started feathering her numb fingers up and down her stomach.
She knew the answer to that.
Evan wouldn't hurt her, per say. He would never get physically violent, at least, he never had so far. And (Y/n) just knew he wouldn't hurt their daughter. But physically hurting them and being controlling and abusive were two very different things.
Evan could scare (Y/n), he tried to control her and what she did, check who she went out with, what she was doing each day. He liked to check her phone and her emails, he liked to validate the fact that she was with him and wouldn't run off and leave him. He threatened people he deemed got too close to her, he suffocated (Y/n).
And she had a feeling Evan would feel that incessant need to control (Y/n) and their baby too. He wouldn't want (Y/n) taking their daughter anywhere without consulting him first. He wouldn't want other people looking after their daughter or being around her, he would want to know where she was every moment of the day. (Y/n) doubted she would even be okay taking their daughter on a day out without Evan in case he thought she was going to take her and never come back.
"Do you?" His words were slow and precise, but his tone had a razor sharp edge like he was becoming impatient for an answer.
Evan dropped his leg so both feet were firmly planted on the floor and he drained the last dregs of his coffee before he leaned forward. He arched over and curled his hand around (Y/n)'s thigh, tilting his head to the right as he leaned close enough that their breaths mingled and their noses were almost touching.
"Baby?"
"You… you scare me Evan, isn't that bad enough? And what would Eddie say if I moved in with you? We'd have to lie to him or worse, tell him the truth. He knows, Evan, he knows why I left."
He wasn't thinking this through or if he was, Evan was somehow placid and calm at the thought of having a rift come between him and Eddie.
If (Y/n) moved in with him they would have to lie to Eddie and say they had very quickly fallen in love. Or lie and say Evan was the father, but somehow make it plausible that he wasn't the ex that (Y/n) was running away from. And if they told him the truth, Eddie would go mad. He would explode if he knew his best friend, the person he trust more than any other friend in the world, was the one who had scared his sister and caused her to run away.
He wouldn't take it lightly that Evan was the controlling, abusive ex that his sister was fleeing from. Eddie would do his best to keep Evan away from (Y/n) and her baby and that would mean cutting his contact with Chris too. Everything was going to get messy from here on out.
"Do you think he'd let you near me or Chris when he finds out you're the ex I wanted to get away from?"
(Y/n) couldn't help but wince when Evan gave her thigh a rather tight squeeze until it felt like his nails were piercing through her leggings into her flesh. She wasn't trying to rile him up, she really wasn't, but she had to be realistic.
They had to think of what they were going to do and come up with some sort of solution or agreement here.
"You seem to think that once our daughter's born, I won't be telling anyone she's mine. Do you think I'm gonna hide that?"
A wave of sickness washed over (Y/n) and she leaned her head on her hand to try and ward off the feeling.
She knew he wouldn't. She knew once their girl was here, Evan wouldn't hide his involvement. He would take pictures, have her as his lockscreen. He would want to hold her and feed her and watch over her and take her out and show her off. He would be open and honest even if (Y/n) didn't want him to be.
This was his daughter and he was going to be involved in her life.
All Evan ever wanted was a family, and now, (Y/n) was giving him that. She was the mother of his baby, they were going to be tied together with the thread of fate until the end of time.
He wasn't going to hide his involvement with his daughter and that meant everyone, including Eddie and Chris, were going to find out. Somehow. Eventually. Soon.
"So what do we do?" It felt like they had reached a stalemate. Neither of them were making this easy and Evan wasn't going to be satisfied with telling Eddie the truth and having everyone think bad of him. Or have his best friend try and keep him away from (Y/n) and their baby.
(Y/n) let her eyes fall closed and a sigh tumbled past her lips when Evan leaned forward and let his temple rest on her shoulder. His hand moved back down to her bump and his lips attached to the side of her neck. She could feel each soft breath he took, no harsh, ragged breaths like when he was getting riled up ready for an argument. No shaking in his system, no panic or anger visible compared to how unsettled and shaky (Y/n) felt right now.
"We'll work something out to tell everyone, you're my girls."
***
Tears cascaded down (Y/n)'s cheeks as she furiously tried to wipe them away, desperate not to break down into fits of tears that would only slow her down.
She could feel her eyes starting to sting and the familiar sensation tickling in her nose, giving away that she was ready and about to start sobbing. But she was doing everything she could not to do that. Her teeth were biting down on her lower lip so tightly she was drawing blood and her muscles were taut and tense to try and keep control and not let the shaking take over her system.
Just a few days.
(Y/n) needed a few days to figure out what she was going to do. She couldn't stay here any longer, not when she was getting herself into a panicked state and Evan was going to tell Eddie soon. He was going to say something because he wanted to be at the scan in two days. He wanted to be there and that was putting a deadline on (Y/n) to either tell the truth or come up with something plausible.
But she couldn't think of anything to say and she couldn't ruin everything her brother had built here. After all Eddie had been through with Shannon, he deserved some happiness. He and Chris were happy, they had the team, they had each other and Abuela and they had Evan. He was the brother Eddie never had and the uncle Chris desperately wanted.
(Y/n) being here was going to ruin that once Eddie found out the truth and she couldn't stand it any longer.
When a twinge shot through her stomach, (Y/n) leaned one hand forward on the bed and moved the other to cradle her bump. She let the tears trickle down her nose as she tried to take in a deep breath and calm herself down. She was upsetting the baby and making herself feel sick, getting so overwhelmed.
Her hands started to shake as she tried to stuff a few things into the bag she had placed on the bed.
Just a few clothes, a few essentials. She only needed to get away for a few days, three at most. Just so she could calm herself down and think things through without Eddie and Chris unknowingly making her feel guilty. Without Evan snaring her back into his arms, into his trap.
She didn't know where to go. She couldn't go to Evan for obvious reasons, he was the problem. She couldn't ask Maddie if she could stay with her because Maddie would worry and tell Evan. She couldn't go home to her parents, (Y/n) couldn't face them right now and they would try and make her stay there and move back home. Maybe she could stay with Chrissy. She always understood, but Chrissy was far away.
She would get out of town for a day or two. Stay by the beach, in a hotel somewhere. Just to clear her head.
"(Y/n)! Dad said we can go out-" Chris barely knocked on the door before he swung it open and hurried into (Y/n)'s room.
He was used to bursting in now that she was staying with them and he loved it. He loved having his aunt's room right next to his, out of all their family, Chris had missed (Y/n) the most when they left Texas.
But he took one look at her and the smile instantly fell from his face. His jaw dropped down to the floor and his brows furrowed tight until he was barely able to open his eyes. What was she doing? Why did she look distressed? Why was she moving her bags around and opening her chest of drawers?
"Where are you going?" His hand clung to the door handle as he sucked in three breaths all at once, feeling like his chest was going to explode.
(Y/n) rubbed her hand beneath her eyes quickly to try and wipe her expression clean and stop Chris from realising she had been crying. She did her best to put a calming smile on her face and pushed the bag to the other side of the bed, out of his view.
"Nowhere, baby… I- I just, I might go to the seaside, for a day or two."
"You said you were staying, for good."
The panic-stricken expression on Chris's face caused (Y/n)'s stomach to drop down to her feet and when his lips turned into a pout, she felt a tear trickle down her face. She couldn't. She couldn't even escape for a day unless she wanted to panic her brother and nephew.
There was no way for (Y/n) to win this situation. She either stayed and upset everyone or she tried to remove herself from the situation and caused even more panic.
"I am-"
"You won't come back."
"Chris-"
"Dad!" A horrid whine burned at the back of Chris's throat before he bit down on his thumb and stomped his foot down so hard the bedside table rattled behind the door.
(Y/n)'s hand moved to cradle her temple that was starting to ache and throb while her other arm curved over the top of her bump like she was trying to give herself a hug. Chris was going to have a meltdown. Eddie was going to panic and wonder what on Earth (Y/n) was trying to do. She had hoped they wouldn't be home yet. She hoped she could of snook out the house and messaged Eddie to say she was down the beach with a friend and would be back in a day or two.
"Chris, buddy what's the matter?" Eddie jogged down the hall and stopped abruptly outside (Y/n)'s room. He had been prepared to speed into Chris's room until he realised his son was actually in the other bedroom.
He moved into the doorway, both hands reaching out for Chris's shoulders as his boy stomped his foot again and leaned back into him with a lot of force.
"What's up, buddy?"
"Auntie (Y/n)'s leaving." He wailed loudly, tears welling up in his eyes as he leaned back into Eddie and clawed his free hand up Eddie's arm.
He didn't like people leaving. He didn't like changes in routine. (Y/n) was his favourite person. They knew that when (Y/n) eventually got a place of her own, they would have to let Chris adjust because he would hate the day she moved out even if she lived nearby, he would still hate the transition. But now he was under the impression she was trying to leave without telling anyone and it was panicking him.
"What?" Eddie's eyes snapped up to look at his sister who shook her head and wiped her hand beneath her eyes. "(Y/n), what's wrong?" The wary tone in Eddie's voice made (Y/n) feel protected and worried all at the same time. He could see it written across her face that something wasn't right and this situation was frightening him.
(Y/n) could feel her head going dizzy as all the blood travelled down to her stomach and she couldn't seem to take in enough air.
"You can't leave," Chris's voice came out a lot quieter this time as he spoke around his thumb and swayed back and forth against Eddie.
When (Y/n) shook her head and tried to mutter "I'm not leaving," Chris barrelled forward. He bound his arms around her waist but he leaned into her with just a little too much thought and sent (Y/n) stumbling backwards until she fell onto the bed with Chris on top of her. His knees bent awkwardly but he seemed to like this contact much better. He burrowed his face against her stomach and kept his arms bound tight around (Y/n) until Eddie hurried over and reeled him back up by his waist.
"Christ, Chris be careful buddy." Eddie heard the small groan (Y/n) let out when she and Chris landed on the bed.
He couldn't be as playful or demanding with (Y/n) as he used to, not now she was pregnant. Chris was used to playing games with her and having (Y/n) mess around with him, jumping on the bed or running around or picking him up like he weighed nothing. She couldn't do that right now.
Eddie lifted Chris up and stood him back on his feet and when his eyes looked down at his little sister, he watched her tilt her head to one side. She wanted to talk, but they couldn't talk in front of Chris.
"Buddy, you go put the tv on while I talk to (Y/n), she's not leaving, I swear."
"Promise?" Chris looked to (Y/n) as he spoke and he finally started to take in proper breaths instead of wheezing when (Y/n) kissed his temple, murmuring "I promise," against his skin.
Eddie kissed the top of Chris's head and watched him scuttle off down the hall to do as he was asked. Once he was out of sight, Eddie leaned his hip against the bedside table and folded his arms over his chest as a look of confusion mixed with sympathy washed over his face.
"What's going on?" His voice was soft and understanding because he could always read his sister like the back of his hand, just like she could tell what he was thinking without him having to say anything.
He could see his sister was panicking. There was something upsetting her and she was going into fight or flight mode. He could see from the way she hadn't ransacked her drawers or the beside table that she wasn't planning on running away, at least not for long. But the bag on the other side of the bed was a bit alarming. She was trying to leave for a while without telling him or trying to talk things through with him first.
(Y/n) always ran to Eddie, not away from him, which meant this was something very serious.
"I don't know what to do." Tears streaked down (Y/n)'s face again as she lowered her head and rubbed the back of her hand against her eyes. "I just thought, if I got away for a day or two, I could clear my head-"
She wished she hadn't of looked up. Her voice stopped abruptly and a wave of panic consumed her entire body.
Evan.
He was here. He was stood in the doorway, arms folded over his chest and one leg crossed over the other with his body slanted against the door frame. But it was his expression that made the baby do summersaults and made (Y/n)'s hand press down on her bump.
He looked angry. The end of his nose was crinkled up and his lips were formed into a broken frown that made his lips look like a ruler that had been bent in the middle. It caused his jaw to jut out to one side and made every cut of his jawline look defined and angry. Even the way his arms were folded made his biceps bulge like he was expecting a fight.
He had seen the bag half packed on the bed and the drawers hastily opened and half-shut. He had heard Chris's panic and seen the confusion. He knew what she was doing. He knew she was trying to get away again, but he didn't seem to understand that (Y/n) wasn't trying to run away with their baby. She wasn't trying to leave… at least, she didn't think she was.
"Running back to stay with Chrissy? I thought you usually ran away during the night?"
The rage was all consuming in Evan's eyes and caused (Y/n) to shrink in on herself. She wrapped both arms over her bump and shuddered, praying she might just pass out so this conversation didn't happen and she could evict herself from this awkward, bubbling situation.
She could feel her head going woozy while she glanced up at her brother when it struck her what Evan was doing.
She tried to shake her head but Evan's eyes bore into hers with a demanding, all-consuming rage. He was going to tell him. He wasn't playing around. He had just given away that he knew more about the situation than he should have. Evan shouldn't know who Chrissy was or that (Y/n) had even run away from there in the first place.
"What are you talking about… how do you know about that?" Eddie's eyes narrowed into a frown and he twisted to look over his shoulder at his friend.
How did Evan know (Y/n) used to live with Chrissy? Eddie mentioned that (Y/n) had been back home before she came out here, but he never said she lived with their other sister. And he never mentioned her name.
And how did he know she had run away more than once? That statement implied Evan knew that (Y/n) had ran away from home the first time, when she left at midnight to go and stay with Chrissy. Eddie never told anyone that and it wasn't something (Y/n) ever shared with people.
"You really think I'm letting you take her from me?" Evan's voice darkened into a gritty, coarse grumble and when he stepped into the room, (Y/n) curled in on herself like she was starting to melt.
"Take who… Buck what the Hell are you talking about?"
Twisting around, Eddie bolted both hands down on his hips and cocked one hip out to the side as he glared at his best friend.
What was he doing?
Eddie had invited him over because they were all going to go out for tea, but this was a private conversation he was trying to have with his sister. His sister who Evan barely knew. Why was he suddenly so interested in her and talking as if he was trying to start a fight?
Eddie waited impatiently for whatever words were about to come out of Evan's mouth next, but he glanced back over his shoulder when he felt a sudden hand on his arm. He felt (Y/n)'s fingers dig bruisingly into his arm as both hands clutched his forearm and she leaned on the edge of the bed so she could pull Eddie closer.
But a shiver crawled down his spine when he stumbled and realised (Y/n) was pulling him to stand in front of her. Was she afraid of Evan? He felt her lean into his hip and he realised a second too late that her hands were trembling causing him to shake with her. And when he saw a flood of tears pouring down her face, every inch of his blood ran cold.
"It's him. Eddie… it's him, he's the father."
Making Art Part 2-Artie x Reader (Cruella)
Summary:Today's the big night where you'll perform for one of Cruella's act alongside Artie. How will your night go and will your relationship with him finally change?
I just went to see Cruella for the second time, so here's part two to Making Art! I'm considering writing another one but umm...for a mature audience since that song he sang gave me ideas when I first heard it, since the song isn't innocent. Let me know about it! I'll be writing more on the movie and also the character who played the Baroness assistant. Please don't forget to reblog and like!
"Don't tell me you actually made Horace and Jasper skin them." I begin to follow Estella around the apartment and begging her to tell me the truth, she ignores me and begin to grab a few sewing tools.
"I had to use gloves because I didn't want to touch them." I whisper and she finally stops and looks back at me.
She smirks and shrugs her shoulders, "So what of I told them to. Do you have the coat ready, or not?" We both have some sort of staring contest until Artie came and grabbed my shoulders.
"Let's not upset mommy now."
Artie is right, making Estella angrier than she is won't help us at all. I angrily walked away from them and went to my closet and handed Estella her black and white coat which was covered in a sheet so it wouldn't get dirty.
"Thank you, (Y/N)." Estella said with sarcasm and left to her side of the apartment and hid so she'd be on her own without anyone bothering her.
I followed Artie downstairs so we'd also have some alone time. He was resting so I sat down next to him. "We used to do everything together you know before she decided to do all this." I whisper.
"At least I have you now." Artie looked back at me and smiled back.
"Well!" I stood up quick and grabbed my tools ready to take his measurements. "Come on, I want to make your outfit."
"You'll make it as fabulous as Cruella up there?"
"Even better."
"I trust you then."
"And I'll do your makeup too." Artie hums and keeps that smirk on his lips. "Can't wait."
I made Artie stand up and slowly I began to take his measurements and write them down on my notebook and showed him what colors we would like me to use for his outfit.
"Have you practiced yet?"
"Not really I'm waiting for the night to give it my all in singing. Don't want to strain my voice before the big night. How about you?"
"I haven't gotten the time."
"But doing this has been fun, think of it, if it weren't for your sister we never would have met."
I stop doing my work and look at him again. "You're actually right, Artie." I never would have stepped into his shop and spoken about our interests in music, which is what brought us together.
Estella bonded with Artie over fashion and I bonded with him over music since I'm not much of a fashionista like she and Artie are.
"I haven't actually had this much fun with anyone before. It feels weird, I feel like I can tell you anything." I froze in my spot when Artie rested his hand on my cheek and stared into my eyes.
We broke apart and jumped when the elevator came to a stop and in came Horace and Jasper. "Whoa! We interrupting something." Jasper teases since he knows my crush on Artie.
He gives me a look I know too well. Horace looks between us and shrugs his shoulders while carrying Wink with one hand, "I don't get what you mean mate, but I'm starving!"
We move away from each other and I hear Horace calling out. "(Y/N)! Have you made any dinner yet?!"
"I'll be there in a bit!" I call out and now felt embarrassed. Was he going to kiss me?
I blush at the thought that it would have happened if it weren't for those two. "Would you..like to stay for dinner."
"Would you like to stay forever?!" Jasper just won't shut up?
Artie shares a nervous laughter and begins to grab his coat. "I would love to but you've done enough for today, don't worry I brought some food and placed it upstairs. I don't want to see your overwork yourself."
I felt my heart flutter at the comment, he's so thoughtful. "These sandwiches are amazing! Thanks Artie!" We chuckled when we heard Horace.
"I'll be busy tonight at the shop, so we probably won't be able to see each other until the next day, our time to shine is approaching my dear." Artie was now in the elevator and took a few seconds to look at me.
"Sleep well, (Y/N)."
"You too, Artie."
**************
It felt nice to sleep until late I haven't gotten time for myself these couple of weeks so today I woke up late, a bit too late, it was thanks to Buddy who licked me to wake up. Since no one was at the apartment I decided to take my time on showering and after that I started on making Artie's outfit for tomorrow night.
"I'll add just a bit more ruffles." I said to myself when I stepped back to take a good look at the mannequin.
Red is definitely his color, I do hope he'll like this. I grabbed a sheet of paper and quickly drew outfit on it and what to draw on his face with makeup, something glamorous with lots of glitter of course, something that would make David Bowie proud.
"Earth to (Y/N), you've been daydreaming so much." Jasper laughed when he caught me staring at my work for too long.
"Don't blame her, Jasper. Artie's a nice lady! Let's not forget your crush on Estel-"
"Quit it man!" Jasper jumped onto Horace and tried shushing his mouth.
I giggled and face the two, "Alright let's get this ready for the night. "Horace, are the amps in their place for tomorrow?"
"Yes, they are!"
"Jasper, you get the instruments?"
"They will be..ready."
I cross my arms and stare at him, "Are you planning on stealing them too?"
He looks away and hums agreeing to what I asked. "Always making me proud." I praise him and continued my work. "Give me two to three hours and I'll be helping you both out."
I grab the pair of scissors and began to sew the different types of fabrics together, I sure hope Artie likes it!
***************
It was almost night for the grand show! Artie and I down stairs and the guys were upstairs grabbing a few cables to connect them to the amps and finished loading some more things on the truck.
Right now Artie was sitting down while I was finishing up his look, I painted his lips black and hairsprayed his blonde hair to look differently.
"And done." I stare back and admire my work. I closed the makeup pallet I smiled, "My beautiful work or art."
"Do I look fabulous?"
"Very much." I turn around and give him his outfit. "Now get dressed, I'll be waiting outside for the reveal."
"Can't wait." Artie held onto his clothes and gave me a wink before he disappeared into the bathroom.
I also was in heavy makeup maybe not as his, but still looking quite punk. "We're all ready, where's the lad?" Horace asked when he jumped into the van.
"He'll be down shortly." I patiently waited for his arrival until he finally joined us. My jaw nearly dropped when I saw him looking so punk and outfit.
"How do I look?" He turned around and smiled at us both. "Fabulous as always, I know." He answered quick and hummed at his outfit.
"Is something wrong?" I asked worried he didn't like something.
"Not enough glitter unfortunately but it'll do." I was about to apologise when he smirked and be got to me.
"For a second there I was worried!" I hit his shoulder lightly and tried not to freak out.
"The outfit is perfect my dear, you really captured my true self...You look ravishing yourself."
Tonight I decided to wear a pair of ripped stockings with a pair of boots, a skirt with some chains, and a long sleeved school jacket with patches and a tie.
"Alright let's go before Cruella kicks out butts for being late." Horace said before I could answer.
************
I quickly plugged my guitar to the amps and began to strum the chords when the low lights began to light up the place.
Jasper joined in with his other guitar and we both began to play as we watched the dancers expertly dancing on the small stage with Cruella un the middle and Artie who began to sing.
"So messed up, I want you here In my room, I want you here Now we're gonna be face-to-face And I'll lay right down in my favorite place
And now I wanna be your dog And now I wanna be your dog Now I wanna be your dog
Well, come on
Now I'm ready to close my eyes And now I'm ready to close my mind And now I'm ready to feel your hand And lose my heart on the burning sands
And now I wanna be your dog Now I wanna be your dog Now I wanna be your dog!"
I was mesmerized by Artie's singing and how good he looked on stage. Here no one judges anyone, which only made me happier.I smirked when I saw Cruella looking at the building where the Baroness was surely watching us. Revenge can be so sweet.
Everyone was singing or dancing along but it was all ruined too quick when the cops began to show up. "It's the cops!" Someone shouted when the lights got closer.
The police quickly got out of their cars and began to grab whoever they could. I unplugged my guitar and quickly jumped down the stage and got away from the crowd before I could get caught.
"Nice to see you again, stranger." I smiled and stopped by a nicely lit restaurant and faced Artie. "Did you seriously follow me here?"
"Of course I did, I wouldn't want to see you get hurt. It's getting late, we should head back to my apartment."People around us continue to run. "Well, Cruella might've run off and the guys ditched me..okay let's go. Maybe you can teach me how to sing as good as you."
"I wouldn't mind that."
Together we began walking down the street until we arrived at nice neighborhood, all the lights were off and we reached to his place. "Well, make yourself at home."
Artie opened the door for me and locked it when I stepped in and admired his place, it definitely screamed him and his style, the walls had many framed posters or autographed record vinyls.
It was quite small but it was comfortable, there was a small hallway leading down to what I assume is his bedroom and another to the bathroom, as soon as you enter the small living room is on the left.
"Your apartment is already cozy, I love it. I guess it's because I've never had a place of my own, or privacy on that matter." I placed my guitar down by the fireplace and admired the small things around me.
"I'm glad it's to your liking." He called out from his room. "Don't be shy come in!" He said. Slowly I followed in and saw his bedroom, the bed was nearly done with violet sheets and a couple of pillows, the satin red curtains were closed blocking any kind of light.
The walls also had many posters or news articles plastered on it, news of certain artists or singers.
"You can sleep here for the night.""No way." I sat down and looked up at him."I'll sleep on the floor or couch, this is your home and I'm just a guest."
"A special one, so I'll gladly take the floor."
"No, you won't. I won't sleep anyways, I'm not tired."
"Well, I'm not either. How about I teach you what I told you back then?" I stared at him confused when he stepped closer and made me lay back in his bed when I felt his grip on my wrists.
"Or I can teach you other things." I blush and looked away from his dark eyes. What have I gotten myself into...
The Winchester Sister (What I have so far)
Jessica Parker Kennedy is the OC’s faceclaim
I look at my laptop bored and exhausted from being in the Impala all day as I sit in the motel room I share with my two older half brothers that became my guardians when I was seven. Their father John Winchester was the same as my own. Though we don't share a mother both of them act like both my mother and my father considering both of my parents were dead and I was left orphaned at 7 years old and left in their custody with Dean being 39 and Sam 35 now. I mean they more or less look like my dads rather than older brothers. Well I am now 18 considering Dean was twenty when I was born and Sam only sixteen. I was born on March 29, 2000 to my mother Estella Parker and my father who was never there when I was born, hell, he was never there for me to begin with. Apparently I was six when he died and then shortly after I turned seven, my mother died of cancer. I was at school when she passed away and I didn't give myself time to mourn as all my stuff was packed into three boxes and in the trunk of a 1967 Chevy Impala with two men in the front and a police officer waiting for me.
They introduced themselves as Sam and Dean Winchester, I was confused as to why they were taking me away from my home. Then the policeman crouched down to me and explained that my mom died in her sleep and our housekeeper Emily found her. She had called the police first and then the first contact in my mother's address book. That was eleven years ago to the day.
I look over at my two brothers as I was falling asleep. Sam was on his own laptop doing research as Dean was on the phone with Bobby discussing the hunt we were on as I was thinking of other things. I remember Ruby for some odd reason. I thought she was pretty cool. Though when she betrayed us. Well revealed the big secret, I felt a sting from the betrayal as she had treated me like a sister almost. I didn't understand the betrayal, especially with all the help she was giving us. I thought for the longest time. "Is this what friendship and family is? Backstabbing shit?" I wasn't sure. After her betrayal for the longest time I only trusted Bobby, Sam and Dean. "Go to bed Squirt." Dean says after hanging up with Bobby. I look at him puzzledly. He walks over and takes my laptop and plugs it in to charge. "Come on Squirt bedtime." He repeats. "Alright tough guy at least let me get my jacket off." I chuckle and he laughs gently. I pull my jacket off to reveal my grey tank top and I wore my jeans.
My antipossession tattoo on my back with wings show as I scoot over for Dean to sit on the bed. Since I've had nightmares since I was eight Dean has been sharing a bed with me just in case the nightmares came back. Usually if he was on a one-night stand I was sharing a bed with Sam. Where as Sam kept my eyes and ears covered. When Sam went to Hell with Lucifer and Michael I went with Dean to be with Lisa and Ben.
Ben was like my big brother which I didn't mind. It was really Lisa that was my problem. I knew Dean was more my brother but, he acted more like a dad to me during that year. Lisa always tried to act like my mother which I utmost hated. Nobody would replace my real mother. Dean thought I had an attitude and I kept trying to tell him I didn't want her to replace my mom but he didn't listen well, until Sam came back soulless.
We didn't really know until Sam started to act different. Then we had to get Death to retrieve Sam's soul from hell. What awhirl of crazy that was when Sam had no soul. Sam wasn't as kind as he was. I was first to realize something was up and when I questioned Sam about it, he just told me. "Leave me alone Kid." I had stepped away from Sam. Nobody ever called me Kid. Dean always called me Squirt or Sam would call me Lex or Bugs. I felt detached from Sam for a bit and I told Dean about it. Now that was a wacky story. I lay my head on my pillow as I fell asleep curled by Dean and I was out like a light.
Chapter 2: Flashback
I groan as I hear my alarm clock. I mutter out loud to myself thinking I was alone in my room. "Will thing turn the fuck off?" I grunt rolling back to my side as I heard it was my alarm and I see Dean in the corner of my eye. "Language Squirt." He says and I roll my eyes at him. "Yea big deal Dean." I reply getting up. "I gotta drive you and Ben to school, you know you two have the same schedule except you got double art and double science." I groan. "Dean you know I hate science. Couldn't ya give me double English?" I ask and he laughs. "Your science grade last year was terrible and your teacher Mr. Wright thought it would be a good idea for you to double up. And Lex I know you love art so don't go complaining that I didn't double up something you liked." He explains. I roll my eyes as he chuckles. "Can't I go out hunting like old times?" I ask. I watch as his face and voice grows serious. "Alex we're living the apple pie life now, no hunting, no monsters alright?" He says in his brotherly voice. To me his "brotherly voice" sounded more like his "Dad" voice. I nod as he leaves. Ben is about 5 months older than me but I don't really mind that or him. In-fact he's more like my other big brother. I get changed into my favorite grey and green t-shirt, black and blue flannel, my leather jacket, and combat boots. I pick up Dean's old amulet that Sam gave him and I put it on. At least I have something from both brothers for me to keep my sanity. I think to myself. I walk down as I see Dean kissing Lisa and I held back disgust. I never cared for Lisa. The only person I liked Dean with was Jo Harvelle. Jo was amazing one of the best hunters, and one of my best friends. I feel haunted by her death at times. I could've gotten the hellhound that got her. But, it was too late and the hound got her bad. At times I wake up shaking from it and I lie to myself that it's okay when its not really okay. I mean who doesn't lie to themselves to keep themselves calm.
I clear my throat and Lisa and Dean break apart and they both give me a stupor grin. "Who's hungry?" Dean asks all of us. Ben sits down as Dean and Lisa start with pancakes. I set my backpack down and sat down by Ben. I glare at Lisa loathingly. "Can't we take Baby?" I ask and yet again Dean shakes his head. "Nope, she's not going out and that final." Dean says stiffly. I held in a groan as he wasn't the cool brother since Sam went to the Cage. I pick at my pancakes with a bit of maple syrup. I sigh as I eat thinking of Sam. I hadn't been able to get out of my head lately and I just missed him so much. I finish eating as I go to the car that wasn't Baby and I got in the backseat as Ben usually claimed shotgun which I didn't mind much. Soon after I get in and settled Dean and Ben come out and get in the car as Dean drives us to school.
Chapter 3: Shit Happens
I walk in the hallway avoiding the popular kids and the jocks headed to my second science class of the day, when I fall to the floor and I hear laughter. "Come on you little turdsack aren't you gonna get up?" I hear a boy call to me and I do get up only to be shoved back down. I feel my hand go to my jean pocket and I pull out my hunting knife. I sniff the air and I smell a slight trace of sulfur. Demons. I think. Before I can react I feel a rough hand on my shoulder and a voice that said. "Go to the car and don't talk back." I look to see Dean, his eyes blazing with anger. I grab my backpack from the ground as I hear Dean follow me. I throw my backpack into the backseat as I get up front only to be stopped by the man of the hour. "Backseat. Now!" His voice barks and I grunt and go to the backseat. Once the both of us are settled in Dean doesn't start the car instead he turns to look at me and I avoid his eyes. "What the hell was that? Alex you can't just pull out your knife when someone is picking on you." Dean snaps at me. "Well excuse me for trying to defend myself and protect others from demons." I snap back. "Watch your tone. Your in enough trouble as it is. How I know you pulled a knife was that the principal called me and told me that you were in the hall and you had a knife, do you realize how much trouble your in?" Dean growls and I shrug. "Give me your knife and your phone." Dean says and I give them both to him without another word. He pockets the knife and turns off my phone and takes out the battery. "That away I know you aren't on it." Dean says handing me my phone back and I groan. "Are you serious?" I ask. "Well it's not my fault you got suspended for three days. You get your battery back after those three days and your knife is now mine." Dean says and I roll my eyes as we drive off. I wanted to yell at him. Cuss him out. But, I knew there was no stopping him. I watch the trees go by as he drives as my mind wanders to Sam.
Chapter 4: Why Did You Have to Go?
As I sleep my mind makes up a dream of some sorts. It was when Lucifer was inside Sam. I wake up in my dream surrounded by reflections of myself then a flicker of light appears as I see Sam/Lucifer. "Lucifer." I spit out bitterly. "Such anger coming from you Winchester." Lucifer snares at me. Circling me like I was meat on a hook for a wolf looking at his prey. I swallow hard as I knew this was just a dream and it wasn't real. "You're just an illusion of my mind. You aren't in Sam anymore." I say back remaining a tadbit calm as I back into a table. "Oh Abby? Alice? Alex is it? Well you're right that I'm not in little Sammy anymore as now I control your mind in this little thing you call an illusion." Lucifer almost growls and I shudder in disgust and anger. "Oh such anger inside someone like you. Considering your real family is dead. Your mother. Dead. Father? Deader than the men you call brothers." Lucifer smirks and I pin him to the wall. "Don't you dare talk about my family like that you lying son of a bitch." I spit in his face as he smirks coldly. I stare at him with an emotionless glare. "Go back to hell where you belong." I spat and he laughs in my face.
I wake with a small start as I see Sam sound asleep and snoring as Dean was turning to face me, seemingly like as if he knew I had another nightmare. My first one in a few months. "Squirt, are you alright?" he asks half asleep. I shrug and he reaches for the light by the table as he hadn't seen my shrug. I wince as he turns on the light to look at me. Sam continues to snore as Dean looks at me. "Why are you looking at me like that? Gonna give me a big brother talk?" I say sarcastically and he gently laughs. "No, but seriously Squirt. Did you have another nightmare?" Dean asks and I nod. "Figures by how you were moving in your sleep." Dean says and I sigh and he wraps his arms around me and turning off the light. "Let's get some more sleep." He says and I nod as he then starts to snore again and I let out a small sigh as I go back to sleep with Lucifer's laugh echoing in my head.
It’s a day. One of those days that gets worse and worse no matter how hard you try to turn it around.
Emma almost hung the towel around midday, but actually managed to make it through five in the afternoon, in time for Killian to come home after work.
It’s her day with their kid; the one day of the week Emma usually looks forward to the most and yet…
It simply was not good.
Emma barely waits for Killian to walk all the way in the house before she’s already reaching for her keys. “Estella’s upstairs in her room.”
“Um, whu–” Killian stammers as Emma rushes past him, with not a hello, much less a kiss. “Where are you going?”
At the question, she actually freezes on her spot and turns. She shrugs, ignoring how much it kills her to see the confusion in his eyes. “Out,” she says, and it sounds pathetic —she is pathetic, she feels pathetic anyway.
Honestly, she just can’t do it today anymore. She needs to go somewhere that isn’t home and —
“All right, I’ll…do you want me to save you some dinner?”
“I’m good,” Emma tells him quickly.
They look at each other, share a powerful look, and thankfully, Killian nods, somehow knowing she needs this without her saying much more. “Aye, all right,” Killian says softly in the end. “Love you, Swan.”
Emma nods. “You too.” She promises before stepping out the door at last.
— ღ —
Four hours later or so, Emma returns to a quiet house —a little too quiet if she’s being honest. Killian is in the living room; sat on the couch by himself. The lights are dimmed; a trusty drink of rum is in front of him while the fire burns in the fireplace.
Emma feels guilty immediately —not for needing the time away, but for leaving without giving him any sort of an explanation.
She settles by him on the couch without saying anything. She snuggles into his side and breathes him in deeply —he’s on his second drink and the fact that she can tell, almost makes her smile.
Almost.
“What did Estella tell you?”
He doesn’t reply at first, he hums, hugging her to him tightly, making Emma feel properly at home just like that.
In the end, he softly says, “she only said mummy didn’t bring the stroller…”
“Actually—” Emma wants to set the story straight; take all the blame and then some, but then… “You know what? That actually sums it up pretty well.”
Killian looks at her fully, his eyes soft and understanding, trying to read her. “Hard day eh?”
Emma lets out a pathetic whimper and buries her face in his chest. “Yeah,” she replies simply. That is honestly the understatement of the century. “She was so mad at me, I don’t think she’s ever been mad at me like she was today. " She says, slowly forcing herself to look up at him. "I don’t even blame her, you know? I was horrible. I’m still so upset at myself and I’m not the toddler…”
Killian listens; he nods too, but Emma knows it doesn’t especially mean he agrees with what she’s saying.
“She adores you.”
“I know,” Emma agrees. “Today just sucked,” she adds anyway and shrugs. “She’s three; she’s going to be good as new tomorrow, but… I still —I wasn’t…” she trails off, licking her lips, rethinking how she’s really feeling about all this. “She just deserved better than the mom I was today…”
“Emma,” he says softly.
She shakes her head, avoiding his eyes stubbornly.
“Love?”
“Um?”
“Do you want to talk about it? Do you want to tell me what really happened?”
She takes in a deep breath. “Yah…” She does actually. Despite of how horrible today was, she wants Killian to know about it. She wants him to listen and she wants him to understand —even when she doesn’t especially understands it herself right now.
Killian smiles at her, that encouraging little thing he always does for her when she needs that extra push to carry on.
It helps.
“Today wasn’t actually all bad, you know?” She says. “Estella and I drove to the city, it was pouring rain so that sucked, but she was still awesome about the whole thing. I did take the stroller at first, you know? But it was useless. I ended up getting soaked myself and so did the stupid stroller.”
“Okay.”
“We ended up ditching it and instead walking to the Children’s museum without it.” She tells him. “We had my umbrella and it actually wasn’t so bad then. Estella was wearing her ducky rubber boots so she loved that. We got to the museum just fine then, and we actually had a lot of fun …”
“That doesn’t sound too terrible love?”
“It wasn’t.” Emma agrees, smiling sadly. “Time flew by, she did have fun which was what I wanted for today but then…when it was time to leave, everything just went wrong.” She sighs, rolling her eyes at herself. “She ran out of steam. I was hoping she’d nap in the car for a little while before doing something else, but —she was just not having anything. She was cranky and sleepy, slightly wet still from the rain, and for whatever goddamn reason, on top of everything, I lost my damn car.”
Emma’s frustration is hard to hide. She’s still so damn mad at herself. “I’ve never in my life forgotten where I parked a car, but I swear to God, I had no fucking idea where I left it. We walked so much looking for the damn thing. Estella was beyond exhausted. She cried so much. I almost ended up crying myself.” She finds herself confessing uneasily. “I didn’t know what to do. She was so tired she didn’t want to walk anymore and I ended getting so upset with her even though it wasn’t her fault. I just needed her to walk so we could get the hell out of there and it was just such a fight with her. It was awful…”
“Oh love,” Killian coos, tilting her chin up with his finger, making her look up at him gently. “I’m so sorry.”
Emma shakes her head, shakes his hand away. “It’s not your fault, it’s not Estella’s fault either. I got in a mood and that poor kid —I sucked, I completely sucked today…”
“Emma,” he says, but Emma’s stubborn as ever and isn’t having it, she shakes her head strongly instead.
“She cried so much,” Emma repeats then just in case Killian didn’t hear her the first time.
And she knows it shouldn’t be such a big deal, kids cry, babies cry, she knows this, still… “I pretty much had to drag her alongside me as we walked up and down those stupid streets looking for my car.”
“You found it obviously.”
“Yeah,” Emma replies, eyes casting down to her hands on her lap. She shakes her head slightly. “Estella was so done by then; kid was pissed, wouldn’t talk to me, wouldn’t even look at me, didn’t even let me buckle her in the car. Took her a while, but did it all herself. She’d been really excited to visit the little Ducklings at the public garden later, but there was just no way either of us wanted to stay in Boston after that, so I drove us home…”
Emma’s glad when Killian doesn’t rush to say anything back. He instead hugs her tighter to him and Emma thinks that’s exactly what she needs in that moment.
She drops a tiny kiss to his chest and looks up into his eyes. “I don’t how what got into me today, I was just… I don’t know, I wasn’t … I just wasn’t great…”
He nods at her words, understandingly and Emma feels a little bit of that awful weight on her shoulders lifting.
Of course then he says… “I think I may know what might have gotten into you, love…”
She frowns at that —deep inside she knows it as well, but she doesn’t want to hear it.
She closes her eyes tight when Killian says it anyway. “Maybe you’re just sad Emma…”
And she wishes she didn’t know exactly what he means. Emma also wishes she didn’t agree with him so damn much.
Traitorous tears start pooling at her eyes immediately and Emma feels the urge to get away; she doesn’t want to face those feelings on top of the horrible day she’s had, but…
“I’m going to miss the lad a lot too, you know?”
She gives up then, she can’t do it anymore; she covers her face with her hands when the tears in her eyes burn so much she can’t stop them any longer.
Her heart aches —literally aches and for the first time today, she decides to just let it all out.
Killian’s a rock —quite literally he is. He doesn’t waver or falter as she cries against him. He holds her and strokes her back. He doesn’t rush her, he doesn’t tell her to calm down, or that everything’s well, because the truth is, even if Henry leaving is exactly what their kid needs, it doesn’t mean knowing that makes any of this any easier on them.
On Emma.
“Do you want to talk about that?”
Emma shakes her head against his chest.
Killian nods, humming softly. “That’s quite all right love,” he assures her. “I’m here whenever you’re ready, love —so is Henry.”
Emma breathes deeply but doesn’t respond.
“Estella is probably not even going to remember she was upset tomorrow morning. Everything’s going to be all right…”
“I hope so.”
“I know so, Swan…”
And the moniker alone makes her smile —he doesn’t use it as often anymore so when he does it’s that little bit more special.
“Thank you, Killian…”
“Always.”
— ღ —
For the second day in a row, Emma comes home to find her daughter sleeping. Is just after two, so it’s actually not that odd that Estella is napping.
It takes so much in her not to give in to tears the second she sees her though. They are in Henry’s bedroom, Estella perfectly asleep, snuggled up next to him in all of her three-year-old glory. Henry’s distracted on his phone, the fingers of his free hand idly playing in Estella’s hair as the baby naps using him as her pillow.
To say Henry Mills adores his baby sister is the understatement of the decade.
To say Estella Jones idolizes her big brother is the understatement of the millennium.
Emma waits by Henry’s door for just a little while longer, he hasn’t noticed her yet, so she stays quiet, just watching them.
It’s not strange, the way her heart starts aching the more she’s there, the more she realizes this may easily be the last time Estella gets to nap with Henry. The last time he gets to ‘babysit’ her for them while they are both at the station. The last time he fixed her downright awful macaroni and cheese that is barely edible but Estella still loves (and eats) because Henry let her help and made of a stupid ordinary lunch an entire operation.
The last time she gets to spend time with both her kids in who knows how long.
“You know I can see you right?”
Emma groans, disguising her near almost breakdown with a laugh she has to force out and a silly expression on her face as she steps in the room. “Didn’t want to bug, you seemed to be handling it all just fine.”
“Right,” Henry says, lowering his phone to watch Emma moving to sit on the edge of his bed. He gives her a thoughtful look for a moment before asking, “You mean besides all the dishes in the sink and the blackened pot we nearly burned to ashes downstairs?”
Emma shakes her head, smiling; she doesn’t even have it in her to be mad about anything right now. “Yeah, I meant despite all that,” she tells him, before looking at Estella. “You got her to nap, that’s as much a success as any these days…”
Henry gives her that one; he matches her smile and nods. “She was good actually, I think I only had to tell her like five stories and she was out.”
“Only?”
“Yeah mom, only…”
Mom. Emma feels her entire face fall and crumple at that one. She hates it.
“Mom,” Henry whispers then.
Emma looks up at him, trying her best not to actually cry. “She’s going to miss you like crazy.”
Henry huffs a tiny chuckle. “I’m going to miss you a lot too mom.”
Busted.
Emma sighs and just looks at them —the softly way Estella is snoring, the way her little hand clutches at her blankie and how impossibly close to Henry she is —as though she’s physically refusing to let go of him just yet.
Emma wishes she could be as blunt as Estella right then.
“You know,” Henry starts, bringing Emma back to reality. Her eyes snap to his and she listens. “I really love this place, and you, Killian, this kid,” he says looking down at Estella. “I —I’m obviously not going to be gone forev —I mean, you know I’m going to come back, right?”
Emma’s throat feels too tight to form words, so she just nods at him.
“I just need to do this —it’s, I…”
“It’s all right,” Emma interrupts, saving him from having to come up with explanations she truly doesn’t need from him. She does get it. She understands him. “It still sucks kid; we are all going to miss you so much.”
Henry nods, he looks away, and Emma feels an immediate need to say something. The last thing she wants is to make Henry feel guilty about his decision, about anything, really. “We weren’t shocked by your decision, you know? We understand, kid. You’ve been here in Storybrooke your whole life, pretty much…”
He nods, but then says, “Except for that one year in New York.”
Emma’s smile at that comes easy and genuinely. “Yeah, except for that one year in New York…” She agrees.
“It was a good year.”
She chuckles a little —the tears in her eyes be damned. “Yeah, kid, yes it was…” She says. “We were away from everyone, but I still don’t think I’d give away that year with you for anything.”
Henry thinks about it for a moment before just coming to the same conclusion himself. “Neither would I,” he says. “Although can you imagine how much fun it would have been to have Killian with us that year?” He asks her; suddenly his tone is playful and even excited.
Emma can’t help but grin. “Oh, I can.”
“New York would have driven him crazy back then! I’d pay cash money to have seen him navigate the big apple for the first time.”
Emma can’t exactly say that she doesn’t agree. Still, she’s the parent so... “Pray he doesn’t ever hear you making fun of him like this though.”
“Because of his old age and all?”
She laughs, can’t honestly help herself. “Maybe it is a good thing you’re going; I’d hate my husband daring you to a duel on his ship or whatever it is he does for that level of disrespect.”
“Mom,” Henry almost pleads, shaking his head and oh so short of rolling his eyes at her. He doesn’t though, instead he searches for her eyes, looks right through her and the sadness hiding behind her smile.
“I’ll keep in touch, I promise I will.”
Emma nods, somehow their little bubble of blissful denial bursting just like that. “You’d better.”
“I will mom,” he promises once more. “I’m going to be okay.”
Emma nods, she knows he is. “You will, kid. I love you, you know?”
He nods. “I love you too…”
AN : The way it works in my head;
- Estella was born when Henry was 14 going on 15. So he’s 18ish when he leaves Storybrooke. I’ve had bits of this written forever since I always did think he’ll want to see something (a lot) more than Storybrooke eventually. It never truly occurred to me he wouldn’t do college, but whey, here we are lol :)
-- friendly disclaimer btw, CS babe numero 1 is going to stay Estella in my book lol This is subject to change after the finale and just how much of Baby Hope we see, but truly, I'm quite attached to Miss Estella so most likely I'm going to stick to her and baby Ollie as my go-to cs kiddos =)
ES Spectre 2.0 Chapter 24-5
Master list: http://deztinywarriors.tumblr.com/post/167872157155/es-spectre-master-list
Probably heatstroke I bet" Zahra sighed.
"No with the respiratory difficulty, it's got to be something else" Michelle looked glum as well, guiding Quinn on her lap with the bottle of golden flower extract on her hand.
Fußball Bot rolled around as she informed "Achtung! My scanners indicate the Quanta clans are moving steadily eastward"
"Go. I'll stay here and see if I can heal Quinn with the flower extract Melissa gave me" Michelle replied before the sorcerer added "Ill stay with you, Michelle. Just in case Quinn is still not healed yet. It's a unusual illness she has"
"I'll remain and keep watch. Had about enough of this excursion anyway" Aleister sighed as he sat there even Grace agreed on him as she sat next to him "I'm staying with you" she said.
"I'll help keep a lookout" Raj said as he shrugged lightly. They noticed Sean, Craig, Zahra, Prince Felipe and Shany also climbed up the cliff to start the mission. Even Furball.
Diego looked over the twins as he said sadly "Kaira, Abel, I hope you both get this mission very well"
Abel turned to Diego as he replied "We will"
"We should pick a distress signal that Malfoy can sound if more big clans show up. Any ideas?" Jake suggested again before Kaira got an idea as she answered "His voice would be a whistled melody"
Aleister nodded slowly in approval before he asked "How about Chopin's [Nocturnal]?" Then he whistled quietly a series of thrilling notes.
"Good choice. It sounds almost like a bird call, yet still didn't exact enough to recognize" Grace added as she liked that whistle. Aleister sighed as he only replied "I do have some talents"
"You do" Grace said again.
"I think that about covers it. Stay safe out there" Abel advised to the reserved team before he headed back to the fighting team.
Kaira and Abel used the laser blades that formed from their palms as they rubbed them slowly. Sean with [Super Strong Hand Fan] that adjusted as [Super Strong Wind Baseball Bat] as weapon while Craig with [Super strength gloves] worn on his hands. Jake prepared with [700kw Electric Gun] while Estella with her long sharp sword that hunger for blood. Zahra prepared with her phone and some mini speakers from pocket as she was ready for some ambush trap for the evil clans. Prince Felipe and Shany were with laser sword and spear respectively.
Right at the time, the twins started their attack by making sneaky blast with throwing electric boomerang toward one of the Quanta clans makes him lost consciousness. It makes a whole of evil clans focused towards the lower cliffs as they pointed their spear forward.
"Who did that? Show yourself!!" One of them asked angrily while some of them took handle of the weaker clan. That's when Kaira and Abel shown themselves forward following with the rest of them
"We are. You had just gotten too far from humanity" Kaira said angrily.
"We're Schicksal Guardians! We're here to destroy you, Quanta clans!" Abel shouted as he raised his sword up. The giant clans roared as they raised their axes up and heading forward.
"Everyone, follow the plan!" Sean commanded as all of them started to get their steps by diving under the Quanta clans feet and attacked them by their feet.
They used the strategy named [Operation Long Pole] which it's inspired by Asian traditional games and they need to distract those Quanta clans and attack underneath their feet to weaken them. It makes some of them either got injury or electrical shocked, being frozen or been hit with another henchmen. Those gangs had to avoid any attempts from the evil clans from getting captured by them or its getting difficult.
For the Ophelia clan, it was a good opportunity to get away as they crawled to the cliff side to hide themselves, hoping their new "God" saved them by the bell.
One by one the giant clan had been taken down by the gang's weapons that they hadn't seen, while almost of fighting adventurers reached after Zahra as she almost done with connecting each of the speakers at corner. As she saw they came and hide behind her at hideout, and she pressed some button at her phone before.....
Some loud music echoed from the speaker which it makes those evil clans covered their ears in pain. They fell on their knees, crawling around before they ran away direction less, as they retreated.
When there's no more glimpse of Quanta clan there, Zahra switched off her phone and collected the speakers. Both fighting and reserved gangs walked out from their hideout.
"We finally did it!" Melissa cheered as she hugged Shany then Kaira. She almost hugged Jake before Abel pushed her away to prevent his sister witnessed it.
"Ch-yeah! We've just kicked off the Quanta clan ass outta here!" Craig cheered happily before Zahra sighed "Guess whose idea it is"
"It's mine! I was the one informed Abel about this" Craig replied before Sean interrupted "Enough that. It's all of us made our job done. So it's a teamwork"
"
"Yeah even I noticed most of us made a great effort to save the day" Prince Felipe smirked as he kept his blade inside pocket.
"How's going, guys?" Quinn asked as she finally recovered from her current illness. For now. Michelle still guiding her to walk by her shoulder.
"We're fine. Even we've just rescued the Ophelia clans" Kaira replied before she looked around then asked Jake "Did you see them?"
"You mean Flintstones and Wilma?" He ended up confused makes him looked around as well.
Shany looked up as she noticed the glimpse of the remaining of Ophelia clans with weak condition and some of them had been beaten up. She cried happily as she ran toward her parents, Durango and Aurora before hugging them tightly. All of them watched the reuniting happy family even some of them cried.
"I couldn't believe we've just seen this family reunion scene..." Raj at first looked sad then he grinned "At least we finally helped her finding them back alive"
"That's the best ending for the adventure movie with finding the definition of life" Diego added.
Even Kaira silently cried as she watched Shany hugged her parents, reminded her on how she hugged her twin brother... but she was uncertain if it never feel the same until....
Estella turned around as she heard something like noises from dry grass inside carrier (that Quanta clan left behind) makes she gripped her sword tightly and pointing ahead, heading forward. Abel followed after her as he asked "Eh, Estella! What happened?"
She just silenced which it makes Abel felt so uneasy on it. Jake pointed his gun toward the carrier and just when he pulled a trigger...
The carrier exploded itself as some dry grasses fled around. The light blue sky suddenly turned purple which it revealed 60cm human-shaped ceramic sculpture and it floated on air, facing all of them.
That incident makes the Ophelia clan including Shany quickly hiding behind the cliff side since they still kept ultimate fear on it. Why were they scaring on that sculpture?
"What was that? Is it Venus sculpture?" Aleister asked angrily even Grace looked scared on how did it looked like.
"If it's a Venus sculpture, it won't shaped like Chucky doll" Jake replied back to him before Kaira asked angrily to that sculpture "Who are you?"
That sculpture answered in synthesised voice "My name is Akoka, loyal slave for Haona the Goddess of Death. I'm here to bring you back to Hell"
complete verse overview: HARRY POTTER VERSE
blood status: pureblood family: > Anani Gamble, Mother | Slytherin | Deceased > Sosthenes Gamble, Father | Ravenclaw | Deceased > Neziah, Oldest Brother | Slytherin | Deceased (died: seventh year) > Tyrus, Older Brother | Gryffindor | Alive (disabled: missing right arm since fourth year) > Apollonia, Older Sister | Slytherin | Deceased (died: fourth year) > Tirzah, Older Sister | Gryffindor | Deceased (died: second year) > Rhesa, Older Sister | Hufflepuff | Deceased (died: second year) > Rumah, Same-Age Brother | Hufflepuff | Deceased (died: first year) > Nimrah, Same-Age Sister | Gryffindor | Deceased (died: first year) faceclaim: > Maisie Williams ( 1st - 5th ) > Katherine Langford ( 6th - 7th ) > Tatiana Maslany ( post-Hogwarts ) occupation: student | trainee healer ( currently ) hogwarts house: Ravenclaw pets: a munchkin cat named Pluto (hogwarts), a lesser sooty owl named Pistachio (hogwarts).
a niffler named Nettle (post-hogwarts).
wand: willow wood, unicorn hair core, 12.5 inches, sturdy - Willow is known as 'the tree of enchantment', thus it is favored for charms. An uncommon wand wood with healing powers, it’s ideal and renowned for enabling advanced nonverbal magic. Consistently, willow wands have been selected by witches and wizards with great potential, rather than those who feel they have little to learn. - Unicorn hair is a more subtle wand, but it is quite compatible with Charms and Transfiguration. It is also hands-down the best core for healing, as it picks up some of the healing capabilities of unicorn blood. Unicorn hair has a reputation of picking gentler or more cerebral users, so it is common amongst Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws. More laid-back Gryffindors and subtler Slytherins may find themselves with a Unicorn hair wand. - Study wands are known for being higher on the power scale, though can be hard to master and thus can make it more difficult to cast spells with. Longer wands are typically drawn to those with big personalities and a flare for dramatic styles of magic.
patronus: sugar glider (symbolically, sugar gliders are clever, ambitious and non-aggressive. though generally not sociable they are fond of drama, they’re also decent conversationalists and listeners. when putting their mind to it, these that are clever and ambitious can accomplish anything.) amortentia: chai tea, strawberry candy, roses, lemon, early morning winter fog. boggart: a vague dark figure glowing green. riddikulus: the figure clears and in it’s place sits a curled up occamy with an overly large head and a long tuff of feathers from it’s tail tip, these tail feathers change through all the colours of the rainbow as it waggles it around. (nina was unable to riddikulus the boggart away on her first few tries due to her immense and freezing fear upon seeing the green-hued figure. on it’s first appearance, nina burst into tears and had to leave the classroom to be consoled. she was allowed to retake the lesson at a later time at which she successfully transformed the boggart into an occamy that she’d once seen flying passed her house when she was young.)
PRE-HOGWARTS > Lived in a fairly decent sized house, though felt very small considering all of the people and animals living there. Luckily, for a number of years, the triplets had the place to themselves for the longest time as their older siblings were all at Hogwarts. The twins, Tirzah and Rhesa, were the previous youngest kids, born one year prior to the triplets. > Bought her cat, Pluto, a few months prior to her first year. Her family bought the youngest triplets an owl to share, a Lesser Sooty Owl named Pistachio, affectionately nicknamed Chio’ by Nina. > Shared a room with her same-age brother and sister, Rumah and Nimrah. > Rode on the train to Hogwarts, shared a compartment with Estella Sinclair (eveofsin).
FIRST YEAR > Sorted into and was the second in her family to be a Ravenclaw, after her father. > Rumah and Nimrah were sorted into Hufflepuff and Gryffindor respectively. > Nina was the only one to not have a sibling in her house. Nimrah had Tyrus and Tirzah, Rumah had Rhesa. Her other two older siblings were Slytherins. > Pluto was very adamant about being around Nina at all times, so much so that older students complained due to the cat’s wailing whenever it was left alone. The cat was eventually brought along with Nina to her classes, so long as it caused no distractions. In potions and herbology, it was required that the cat be near no plants or ingredients due to risks of contamination. > Nina tended to sneak candy into her classes, typically anything she could eat quickly without being noticed. This proved difficult as she was hardly ever not talking, and thus couldn’t easily hide that she was eating as it was odd for her not to be babbling on about something. > At the end of the her first year, Nina’s family was attacked by Death Eaters. Being a Pureblood family, they were considered traitors when refusing to join them. Tyrus and Nina were the only ones to escape, although Tyr’s arm was badly damaged by a curse in the battle and was later removed. Tyrus was unable to return to classes for a few months. > Nina and Tyrus were taken in by a distant squib aunt.
SECOND YEAR - FOURTH YEAR > In second year, Nina’s grades slipped due to depression and insomnia. > Nina had few friends and even less after she purposeless avoided contact with most people. She was very quiet in class, something she had not been the previous year, rarely even answering questions. Even her homework was less than it used to be. > These bad grades continued into third year and she was barely passing her classes. Eventually she started talking more, though her grades didn’t get much better. > She took on Ancient Runes and Care of Magical Creatures as her third year electives. > She learnt about animagi in third year her tranfiguration class, something she was very interested in learning more about. > It wasn’t until she saw a thestral near the end of her third year that she realised she was getting better. Choosing to see this as a good thing, she decided it meant that she was finally accepting her family’s deaths. Her grades only snapped back to what they used to be in fourth year. > Her best classes were Charms and Astronomy. > Even during her depression in second and third year, charms was the only class she had a steady high grade in. It was assumed to be natural talent, only helped by her wand. > From second year, Defense Against the Dark Arts was her least favourite class, only due to how it reminded her of her family’s deaths. She did quite well it in though due to her talent in spell work. > Broke down into tears during the boggart lesson after her boggart turned into a shadowed figure cast in a green glow, not unlike the killing curse used on her family three years prior.
FIFTH YEAR > Retook her boggart lesson a few times this year. Eventually succeed in turning her boggart (a shadowed green figure) in a riddikulus (a large-headed occamy with a colour changing tail). > Started experimenting with beauty spells. Specifically in changing eye and hair colours. She gave herself very dark freckles at one point, and at another had bright yellow hair for over a week. > Tyrus had to stay back a year to retake a number of classes due to missing so many back after loosing his arm. He graduated at the end of Nina’s fifth year. > Started fooling around with nonverbal spells. > She dropped her Study of Ancient Runes class due to low interest, but kept all her books on it for later reading post-Hogwarts. > Passed all of her O.W.L.s with decent grades, her best being astronomy, transfiguration and charms. She was determined to continue in her lowest classes, herbology and potions, even after getting average marks.
O.W.L.s
SIXTH YEAR > Perfected a beauty spell to turn her hair blue. Kept this hair colour all through sixth and seventh year, and later until she was 21. > Was finally able to leave Pluto alone without him causing too much trouble. He sometimes ended up sitting outside her classroom, waiting for her to be finished, and could be seen being carried by her due to being so small and at risk of being stepped on. > Nina took the Apparation class in her sixth year and proved to be quite talented at it. > Nonverbal spells were formally introduced in sixth year and Nina ‘showed great promise in them’, her professor unknowing that she’d taken it up fifth year. > Nina’s grades grew ever higher, pushing her to the top of her year across all houses in both Charms and Astronomy. > Unknowingly, she apparently gave off a ‘mean vibe’ during her last two years at Hogwarts. She blamed it on lack of sleep and near constant hyperfocus on certain things, which caused her to snap at anyone who broke her concentration. > Finding some spare time while in the library studying, she started studying animagi as well after remembering her interest in it from third year.
SEVENTH YEAR > Took her tutoring with Estella far more seriously due to the disappointing grade she’d gotten in her potion O.W.L. > It paid off as she got an ‘exceeded expectation’ grade for both her previously bad subjects. > Began attempting the animagus process. She failed five times, especially with the no talking portion of it because of holding a mandrake leaf in her mouth for a month. She did swallow at least three of these leaves. > In the case of her animagus’ appearance, the most notable features are it’s bright green eyes. While in seventh year and until she was 21, this form also had a tuft of bright blue ‘hair’ atop it’s head in a diamond shape, between the ears and going down to it’s nose. When she stopped charming her hair blue, this fur became dark brown. > On her sixth attempt, she succeeded in completing the process. Her animagus is a chipmunk. > She passed most of her N.E.W.T.s with exceeding expectations; except for three, astronomy, charms, and transfigurations, which she passed with outstanding marks.
POST HOGWARTS > Nina and her brother Tyrus live together. > Tyrus grew up to be a famous Quidditch chaser, despite only having one arm. > She bought a pet niffler shortly out of school, it’s name is Nettle. > Nina didn’t know what she wanted to do out of school, and still doesn’t. > She’s had a number of jobs including: barmaid, shop keep’s assistant, librarian. > She currently works as a trainee healer at Saint Mungo’s, though has recently grown interested in curse-breaking. She has yet to pursue such interests as she’s trying to have a stable job to help pay rent so her brother doesn’t have to pay it all. > She’s quite interested in traveling, though doesn’t currently have the money to do so.
Daddy Issues-You Ask me What I'm Thinking About
You Ask me What I'm Thinking About
The bouquet of lilies stared at me, taunting me to throw them out. The rational part of my brain told me I had nothing to worry about and that I was safe for the past eleven years I would be safe now. But the nervous knot that had settled in the pit of my stomach was slowly evolving in to a sickening churn.
The day came and went on in a blur. My mind preoccupied with fabricating one terrible scenario after another, the next one worst than the last. I continuously texted Stella and Charlie to check up on them. Even knowing they were in school didn't bring any relief. I did talk myself in to letting them keep their dinner plans but I insisted on talking to Kellen's dad when he picked the kids up. Hale saw my building panic and checked on me between clients. I lied saying I was fine but he saw right through my facade.
By the time seven-thirty rolled around I had barely gotten anything done. I had my laptop open in front of me with an unfinished inventory report and an inbox of e-mail to respond to. Hale had just finished a tattooing session for the last client of the day and was cleaning up his station.
"Hale can I ask you something?" I asked, swiveling my chair around.
He looked up, "Does it have anything to do with why you look like you want to crawl out of you'r skin at any moment today?"
I nodded with a sigh. "Do you still have that friend with the police department."
Hale stood up now eyes narrowing, "Yeah he's a detective now with the LAPD, Jackson Kennedy. Why?"
I sunk back in to my chair. I knew that Hale was only trying to be protective but I wasn't ready to admit how bad I thought this situation could be. "Would it be possible if I just talked to him about something. I promise it's nothing serious."
"I'll give you his number but on one condition," Hale said, only relaxing slightly,
"You will eventually have to tell me what is freaking you out."
I nodded, forging a small smile. "I will I just have to sort it out to make sure I'm not over reacting."
Hale pulled his phone out his back pocket before sitting back down. I watched him scribble something on the corner of his sketchpad and tear it off before a thought occurred to me. "Can I ask you another really big favor?"
"Anything." Hale mumbled still focused on what he was typing.
"Do you mind following me home tonight?"
***
I sat up pacing the small living room until the twins got home. They both were confused why I was so relieved when they walked through the door. Despite their protest I squeezed them in to a hug like I didn't see them this morning.
"Come on Ry I'm sweaty and sore," Charlie said squirming away from me.
Stella on the other hand wrapped her arms around my middle, "Hugs make you live longer, I'm good," She said, "She's just cranky from dinner."
I finally let them go and asked "What happened at dinner?". Charlie groaned, her cheeks turning a bright pink. She tried to escape to the kitchen. Stella followed, pulling me with her.
"Nothing." Charlie said, opening the refrigerator and used it to hide her face as she reached for a water bottle.
"Um, not nothing. Charlie is blossoming in to a killer jock babe," Stella hopped on the counter, pushing my purse over so she had room. Things fell out but she just continued with her teasing. "So tonight was just a ploy for Kellen to see
Charlie out side of lacrosse practice. He is so in to her its gross."
Charlie looked like she was either about to explode or crawl in to herself. "He does not. If he did he would not have invited you too."
"That's only because you are too painfully shy talk about anything other then sports. Plus it's less suspicious and awkward if I come. " Stella shot back.
I leaned on the counter next to Stella and said, "Charlie's lack of social confidence is no news. What is though is this Kellen boy. Since when did he have the hots for Charlie."
"Well over the summer he got super cute from freshman year and like everyone is so in to him. But he is always talking to Charlie and now he eats lunch with us and is always offering to walk her home after school." Stella gushed.
"Well if you think he's so great then why don't you date him," Charlie said. She attempted to be snippy with her twin but the falter gave her away.
Estella just laughed, "Because I'm not a hot jock babe like you and Kellen probably wants to go on hikes as date."
"Well he's just a friend. We play lacrosse together that's it." Charlie said. Before Stella could poke fun anymore Charlie switched the subject to her day at school, skirting over the parts that involved Kellen.
It was times like these that I appreciated my sisters that most. The fact that they could go to school and have their only worries be boys and homecoming dresses told me I did my job right. So for a split second I felt like everything was normal.
That was until my phone buzzed. It sat precariously on top of the spilled contents from my purse. The number that texted me was not saved in to a contact but I recognized it immediately as Detective Kennedy. Hale had told me to text him as soon as he gave me the number because he knew that Detective Kennedy worked the nightshift. He was probably responding to tell me that he had better things to deal with then paranoid girls. But before I could reach for it Stella snatched it up and opened it. It wouldn't have been an issue because the only people that really text me at night were Cain and Hale. But when she opened the and started reading it she squealed.
"Ryan who is Detective Jackson Kennedy and why does he want to meet you for coffee tomorrow?" She asked eyes zeroing in on me. Charlie stopped mid sentence eyes wide as she looked at me in shock.
I took my phone from Stella and rolled my eyes. "One, it's just someone Hale introduced me to. Second, I'm a little offended by your reactions."
Stella waved me off, "So is it a date? And if it is I'm a little offend you let Hale set you up on date but not me."
"I'm just in disbelief that Ryan has a date," Charlie added.
"It is not a date," I corrected, "It's a business coffee." I didn't want to tell them the truth and worry them but lying to them would be worst. Once I figured out everything and it turned out to be nothing I would tell them. That was what I at least reasoned with myself.
Stella hopped of the counter, smiling like the Cheshire Cat. "Once just act like a twenty-seven year old and have a coffee date." Charlie just looked at me with a cocked eyebrow and followed Estella out the kitchen.
Names Are Important
Names Are Important
“They’re so tiny,” Jesse whispered as he stared at the kittens suckling against Jack’s stomach.
“They’re newborns,” Gabriel chuckled as he kept the bottle in his hand carefully angled.
He didn’t want to put air into his daughter’s belly as he fed her. The less she threw up after burping, the better it would be in the long run. Then she wouldn’t have to be fed again for a few hours and she wasn’t going to whimper with hunger.
“They’ll grow,” Jack purred as his tail tapped lightly against the bed. “They won’t stay tiny forever.”
Everyone was taking turns looking at the babies, oohing and awing over how tiny they were. The kittens were snuggled into Jack’s belly fur with just their white little triangle tails poking out. Gabriel was feeding the runt, keeping her head carefully elevated as she pulled angrily on the rubber nipple, squeaking angrily at Gabriel every time the milk flow stopped for even a moment. She had to be bottle fed because her sisters kept laying on her and squishing her when they fed. She’d be fine when she was a little bigger, but for now, the twins were jerks to their runt.
“And you still haven’t thought of names?” Ana asked as one of the kittens pulled away and sneezed. “Bless you.”
“Sneezy is Estella,” Jack smiled. “The piggy is Reina. We...haven’t agreed on a good name for the baby yet.”
“I still think Sarah is good,” Gabriel smirked. “Since the twins are named after my mother and grandmother.”
“My mother would have my hide if I named my runt after her,” Jack shook his head.
Estella threw up on the bed, coughing and crying as she fumbled blindly. Jack leaned forward and licked over her fur soothingly, nosing her back into his belly fur before he lapped the vomit up without hesitating. Angela, Ana, and Jesse looked disgusted, but Torbjörn and Reinhardt let out similar ‘aws’ of approval.
“What a good momma,” Torbjörn cooed.
“Cats are weird,” Jesse whined.
“You don’t want to know what he did with the placenta,” Gabriel teased as he set the empty bottle down and started patting the runt’s back.
“Ew! Ew, you ate it?!” Jesse stared at Jack in horror.
“Well, what else am I supposed to do with it?” Jack blushed. “Throw it out? That’s a good source of vitamins there!”
“Most people don’t eat the placenta raw,” Angela grumbled. “And the research on the dietary benefits are sketchy.”
Jack folded his ears down and yanked his pillow over his head. “Don’t judge me! I was on postpartum mentality!”
“Do not worry, Jack; my mates have always eaten the placenta,” Reinhardt soothed.
“As has my wife,” Torbjörn smiled. “Don’t worry; Jesse’ll eat his too.”
“Hey! I’m an Alpha, thank you!” Jesse glared at Torbjörn.
“Uh huh,” the Spitz smirked at him. “Whatever makes you feel better, kid.”
Jack peeked out from under the pillow before curling around his kittens. “Gabe?”
Gabriel set the runt down against Jack’s belly and the pup snuggled into the soft fur with a faint squeak. Jack purred and ran his tongue over his babies’ back, curling them in close to his belly. Gabriel pulled the blanket up and over his hips, hiding the babies from sight.
Everyone took that as their sign to leave the new mother in peace. Angela closed the privacy curtain, smiling as Gabriel settled down near his mate’s head and gently nuzzled him.
Jack nuzzled his nameless baby close. The twins were sleeping peacefully, curled up over each other with their little noses buried in his belly fur. The runt, however, was up near his chest, pressing her cheek against his shoulder. She was squeaking softly, experiencing whatever nightmares plague newborn.
“Ssh,” he soothed. “Ssh, my little one.”
The runt’s eyelids fluttered and he saw a faint line of blue behind the dark flesh before she curled up closer and buried her nose in his jaw. He purred softly and ran his tongue soothingly over her belly. His poor little baby; so young and already having nightmares.
“Hey,” Gabriel cooed as he walked around the privacy curtain. “Angie thinks we can move back to the apartment. When you’re ready.”
Jack nodded his head as he curled himself around his babies. Gabriel set their supper down on the nightstand and slowly started picking up bite-sized pieces. Jack smiled and lifted his head, opening his mouth for the offering. Gabriel set the piece into Jack’s mouth, smiling as Jack eagerly chewed and swallowed it.
“Think of anything while I was gone?” Gabriel asked.
Jack shook his head. “I don’t like any of the names I thought of,” he sighed as he let Gabriel pick their runt up and slip her into his hoodie.
She squeaked softly, curling up against her father’s chest and opening her mouth to breathe. Her dog features were most prominent when she did that, the big tongue poking out just enough to be seen past her lips. Gabriel nuzzled her gently before offering another piece of food.
“So, do we go with all those names that were submitted to us?” he asked.
“No,” Jack bared his fangs. “My babies are not part of some stupid popularity contest.”
Gabriel raised his hands. “I was joking,” he soothed. “I don’t like the fact that we were sent thousands of names even though we said we weren’t going to use civilian input.”
Jack took a deep breath and flicked his tail. “Sorry,” he whispered.
He watched Gabriel cradle their runt close to his chest. She was so tiny, covered in black and tan fur, just like her Papi. The fur would fall out as she got older, just like all babies with Cat or Dog features, but for now, it would give her a small bit of protection against the world.
“Would you…be insulted if I used a name from a movie?” Jack asked as he watched his daughter.
“Depends on the name,” Gabriel replied. “What did you have in mind?”
Jack smiled and hummed as he reached out to stroke over his daughter’s head. “I ask for nothing; I can get by. But I know there’s others less lucky than I.”
Gabriel stared at him in awe before he grinned. “Esmeralda,” he growled and looked down at his softly squeaking baby. “Esmeralda Sarah Maria Reyes-Morrison.”
Jack purred, nodding his head in approval. “Perfect,” he sighed and rested his cheek against Gabriel’s thigh. “Perfect.”
Jack settled down on the couch with his litter and smiled as they stared around them curiously. Their bright blue eyes took the world in with rapt attention, watching curiously as the photographers set up their equipment. The interviewer was cooing over them, his stubby little Boxer tail wagging rapidly.
“They’re so precious,” the interviewer whined. “Oh, just lookit their little tails and ears.”
Gabriel settled down beside Jack and Esmeralda immediately squirmed towards him. He scooped her up and nuzzled her, growling softly in his best imitation of a purr. She purred back, snuggling in against his chest before falling asleep immediately. The twins let out synchronized yawns before immediately passing out and snuggling against Jack’s belly fur.
“They are beautiful, Strike Commander,” the interviewer said as he sat down. “Okay, let’s get this interview started.” He tapped a few spots on his tablet before one of the floating cameras came to life and zipped in front of his face. “Hello, everyone! Tian White here with our exclusive interview with Strike Commander Jack Morrison after a month into his maternity leave, as well as his mate, Commander Gabriel Reyes. How are you both?”
“Good,” Jack smiled as the camera whipped around and zipped off to get a wide-angle shot of them. “Still waiting for the uterus to contract back to its normal size, but it’s going.”
Gabriel leaned over and nuzzled him, smiling lovingly as they shared a chaste kiss. “I have never been so happy in my life,” he said.
“Not even on your wedding day?” Tian teased.
“We signed papers in the UN building; it was hardly a wedding,” Gabriel shook his head. “But yes, happier than that. I have Jack and our babies. What could be better?”
“Good point,” Tian grinned. “You had a relatively small litter, correct?”
“Fairly small, all things considered,” Jack shrugged. “I’m an only child, so that doesn’t say much for my family’s reproductive capabilities.”
“I come from a huge family; sorry, honey,” Gabriel chuckled.
Jack stuck his tongue out playfully before he ran his thumb down Reina’s cheek. She squirmed closer, squeaking softly as she hid in the soft white fur on Jack’s belly.
“How have they been sleeping?”
“Pretty well,” Gabriel nodded his head. “Although, to be fair, Jack wakes up more than I do. He sort of has the necessary anatomy to deal with their hungry bellies. I just change diapers.”
“Which is appreciated,” Jack smiled at him. “I don’t know what I’d do without you, Gabe.”
They shared another kiss and Tian squirmed happily in his seat. “You two are adorable! Ah, I wish I had gotten to interview you sooner! Okay, but, real talk. You haven’t released the names of your daughters yet and the world is dying to know who the first official Overwatch babies are!”
Jack glanced at Gabriel before setting a hand on Reina’s head. “Our oldest; Reina Lucia Reyes-Morrison,” he said with a smile.
“Named after my mother and one of my sisters,” Gabriel purred.
“This is Estella Isadore Reyes-Morrison,” Jack smiled and scratched gently at Estella’s white cheek.
“Named after my grandmother and other sister,” Gabriel laughed.
“And the runt,” Jack smiled lovingly at his daughter. “Esmeralda Sarah Maria Reyes-Morrison.”
“Those are beautiful names!” Tian grinned widely. “And I’m sure they’re going to grow up into beautiful girls!”
“They’d better with genetics like his,” Gabriel jerked a thumb at Jack. “Lookit that face; it’s angelic!”
“Gabriel,” Jack scolded, but he felt his face heating up anyways.
“You know it’s true, Jack,” Gabriel grinned and kissed his cheek. “Although, we might have to visit your parents a lot so that they all get those adorable farmer freckles.”
“I’m going to hurt you,” Jack growled as he flicked his tail.
“Love you,” Gabriel teased and nuzzled him.
Tian laughed as Jack huffed at his mate and kissed him. Esmeralda started squirming, chirping hungrily for food. Jack quickly scooped her up and set her against his left side, helping her latch onto the nipple hidden by his thick fur. She suckled happily, burying her face into the soft fur and wagging her little stub of a tail.
“Is it difficult feeding all three of them?” Tian asked as he watched.
“Sometimes; Esmeralda’s still small compared to her sisters so they tend to just lie on her,” Jack smiled. “That’s where Gabriel comes in.”
“Bottle feeding; my other contribution to raising our babies,” Gabriel smiled.
“So it’s formula?” Tian asked.
“No; pumped milk that’s been refrigerated,” Jack shook his head. “I’m feeding them and producing more than enough milk to keep them healthy.”
“Are you looking forward to your maternity leave?” Tian asked. “A nice long vacation to get to know your babies.”
“Well, I don’t know about ‘long’, but it’s been nice being able to focus on the girls rather than worrying about my job,” Jack admitted.
“He says that while hiding a thousand datapads in the room so he can keep up to date on everything,” Gabriel teased. “The man doesn’t know what ‘relax’ means.”
“There is no such word; you made it up,” Jack stuck his tongue out at his mate.
Tian giggled before he shook his head. “Well, I wish you both the best and good health for your babies.”
Jack and Gabriel smiled, thanking Tian for his time. They bundled their babies up and carried them out of the room, Esmeralda still cradled to Jack’s stomach as she suckled.
