OK SO first off thankyou so much?? thats so sweet?????? 😭😭 i really don't think my character ramblings are anything special, but i like reading other ppls insane takes so i thought i'd provide others with the same 👍

not to get too into it but i feel like a series like life smp is best enjoyed with your own crazy delulu takes (similar to touhou if anyone heres familiar w/ that fandom). and it makes me kinda sad to see ppl arguing abt whats 'canon' or 'correct' cus that's no fun lol

this one first cus chronology. I honestly don't know if there's anything I can say here that hasn't been said before? But yeah they're. tasty. something about martyn waiting the entirety of third life to betray ren and never getting the chance and now longing to have him back. lots of regret but regret. for what. yknow. and ren always looking out for martyn even from a distance. and then martyn losing that connection in limlife.

uhh i don't really know what else to write here so have some of my insane ramblings copy+pasted from my shipping doc 👍

Martyn fancies himself a schemer, someone who's not afraid to play the game the way it's intended. If that means earning a powerful ally's trust only to shatter it then he was going to do it. Only, Martyn's bark is worse than his bite, and every night he spends in lying awake in those soft, warm sheets that Ren had laid out just for him (freshly washed too, he might add. Smelled like sunshine) he wonders if he can do it. He can, of course. (he can't. he won't. he's too soft. soft and useless.) He'd cut his head off already. (he wants to vomit) (this is why no one needs you. wants you. loves you) Who cares about other people anyway? He is the only one who really matters. (the thought of being alone makes him want to cry) Ren, on the other hand, is a capable leader. The definition of loyal and dependable, if not a bit dramatic. He struggles with self-worth, being good enough, useful enough, powerful enough. But to others, he's the opposite, caring and protective of any who would ask for his aid. After all, every citizen deserves to live in safety and comfort, and providing that is what a good King would do. ~ Martyn's not as sneaky as he thinks he is. Ren knows. Ren sees the signs. It's a death game for a reason. But he doesn't let Martyn know. He doesn't even hold it against him. He doesn't see the bloodthirst anymore, only the broken pieces lying underneath. ~ or the King's Hand, it was the thrill of feeling Useful, Powerful, Feared (loved). He was going to miss it after he betrayed him, the high of bloodlust, the smell in the air as he charged into battle. (the way his hands held him so gently) For the King himself, deep down he knew it was never to be. He had met a monster, but he hoped his efforts calmed the storm ever so slightly. On some days, he pretends to forget about the death game entirely and imagines the speech he'd give to retire his Hand. "You don't have to fight anymore," he'd say, "I'll take care of you from now on, I promise. So put the sword down, okay?" But in the end, it was all a fantasy, wasn't it?

also uhhh eroguro my beloved...... im assuming this is getting brought up cus of my mentions of loving eroguro in the past. and yes to all of that very much i agree. but i do have kind of.. a limit to what i do w/ these characters specifically because of the fandom/ccs (at least publicly). if i ever do decide to share the nastier stuff in my head or go into detail on gore and whatnot i'd probs make a sideblog and tuck it away and maybe block scott and martyn for always somehow showing up on my posts lmao

Akio lore is next!!! This little guy ruined my life…(fun fact; he was originally a KNY oc that ended up going far past just kny !! Fun facts abt his original universe self; he was a tsuchinoto being taught under Sanemi. He has bandages over his eyes due to the wind hurting his eyes (despite having wind breathing lmao.) and he learnt to fight despite the blinding disadvantage!! And TW; he did end up killing himself before the infinity castle arc due to a demon)

(Parts of his lore are heavily inspired by the song Abnormality dancing girl by Guchiry)

TW!!!!; SUICIDE, ABUSE, MENTIONS OF ALCOHOL (not a lot.)

When Akio was born, his mom was extremely worried over Akio duo to her knowing her husbands nature which equaled in her avoiding Akio whenever she could, aswel as her husband duo to pure disgust, she became incredibly distant and practically mute, only occasionally talking to Akio as he got older.

Before the age of seven, his dad would be overly caring, he’d do everything to make Akio happy and satisfied, yet also would make him aware of his own disease to basically make the young Akio feel bad for him, tho the moment he turned 7.

?? Is that truly how the story went though.?

Akio would be forced to nearly consume cleaning chemicals and alcohol as to get rid of his taste buds, he was forced to train for hours a day and barely slept most times and only ever ate when he “deserved” it, and those meals never filled him up either, this continued until he was 9 when a new rule was introduced, he wasn’t allowed to show emotions at all, whether that was happiness, sadness, anger, disgust, irritation, it was all banned and if he dares break said rule he’d get beat, whether that was by his dad or some people he never met before, it all was torture and felt like it lasted hours, it doesn’t help that he was an emotional child beforehand and so the switch was horrible, especially when he started to go through puberty, he was even more emotional than normally and that ended up in him being horribly bruised constantly, it’d be rare to see him without bandages, though thats also when Akio started being more aggressive to those around him (that weren’t his dad/family/friend), he’d often insult those around him and overal cause trouble, anyone who tried getting physical usually got hit hard enough to pass out for a good while (Akio has 4-5x more dense muscles than the average human, I’m not quite sure how to explain it but one of the things about it is that a person with denser muscles are often stronger than normal people.), yet that caused him to get beat by his father as he was considered embarrassing and a failure. during this time when he was around 13, his mother hung herself in the middle of the living room, she was dead, motionless and cold, though that night before she'd try to suffocate Akio and then once she realized she couldnt take her own kid with her to the death, she held one last conversation with him.

Akio never ended up remembering that his own mother tried killing, only the situation afterwards.

Akio was the first to discover the corpse, his aggression stopped right after that as occasional panic attacks and depressive episodes appeared in his days soon afterwards, his mom was the only one who showed true affection, yet now she was gone.

Finally around the age of 15, he was shaped into an emotionless, cold person which is father wanted him to be, tho in those 2 years (13-15), he started going insane, he had 0 idea who he was and had a horrible obsession with butterflies, finding them abnormal and wanting to be one, he’d talk to his own reflection and hallucinate the fact that butterflies talk to him, he’d continue to do so till around end of his first year in high school (Japanese school btw).

Punishments truly got a lot more cruel by the time he was 15, they were horrible before but only got worse from then. He'd get beat by extremely hot objects that left burn marks all over his body, cigarrettes would be put out all over his arms and he'd be forced to cut his own wrists and did it over and over until his father deemed it good enough. And yet it all didn't compare to the unprescribed medication he was forced to take, it turned him into a living corpse, his audible hallucinations got horrible to the point where he barely heard others and was incredibly silent, he barely had energy and could sleep for hours during classes. He no longer seemed human, even the slightest glimpse of humanity was taken from him.

Though the induced psychosis truly made everything else seem harmless, he hated this punishment and wished his father wasn't so cruel to force this upon him. During these periods where his hallucinations and delusions were hightened he was a nervous wreck and was shaking constantly. He was unable to tell anything apart from whatever and seemed to constantly be on edge and beg his father for anything to make it all stop. And those very begs were never answered.

And despite just how much he had to endure and go through, his father would pass after a bit of him being 15 due to the sickness he had since the begin of his life. And he wasn't mourned at all, despite how dependant Akio ended up on him, he couldn't feel upset even if he wanted to.

And after that point, everything began getting better for Akio. He got to live with Sokai and change up his appearance to something he felt better with, he got therapy, finally went to the doctors for once.. It all seemed perfect, nono, it was perfect. He finally got to experience being a teenager, being inlove, having free time, having people care for him and act like guardians towards him.

It would all end up crashing. Every bit of progress would be lit up and burnt to ashes within the span of only a few hours.

The simple effect of his medication wearing off would cause his hallucinations to mess with him yet again..nothing new. Except it affected him more than usual, suddenly his thoughts raced with his past and with the fact he never achieved his goal of abnormality and would always be average. He would always be the reason his father treated him the way he did.

And just like that, he was back at square one, being unable to tell between delusion and reality and quickly became unable to tell if he was actually alive.

In a whim, he'd rush out of the room he once slept in and grab a knife from the kitchen he surely once used to cut stuff to help his boyfriend with cooking, but now? the knife will have a new purpose.

the clock struck 2 AM, now locked in the bathroom. In tears Akio would stare at the mirror infront of him, his reflection he was oh so familiar with smiled at him, a sickeningly sweet smile at that. His grip on the sink would tighten as he asked the reflection a simple question;

"Who are you?"

"who am I?"

A pointless answer was given, and a twisted smile would appear on the boys face. All the help that was given, all the memories made, his every reason to live all slipped away in the matter of seconds as he'd continue to cry silently, sweat and drool following it up after a while of the smiling and sobbing.

As response to not being able to feel anything aswel as being unable to tell if he was truly alive, he'd gouge his left eye out with his own fingers, it being a messy and really not smooth extraction. Any normal person would scream in pain, and yet Akio didn't feel a thing.

He'd stare at his own eyeball for a bit before his smile faded as he truly started realizing that he wasnt alive (he was of course, tho delusions got the best of him.)

It ended up in the knife being used.

He'd cut his stomach and chest open with a smile, not feeling the pain whatsoever and instead only focusing on the warm trickle of blood that left the gaping wound that ended up in his organs showing and guts spilling. His smile would slowly turn more and more deranged before finally realization hit him.

What did he do??

Suddenly the comforting feeling of the blood trickling down the lower part of his body turned into a reason to panic as he bled out. It only took so long before he sat there on his knees, lifeless within the locked bathroom, guts spilled and knife in hand.

The boy who was getting better ended up dying at the young age of 17.

Nono, thats not truly how the story went. Now is it?

Akio grew up in a loving household. Despite how difficult times were financially, his parents always tried to make time for him and spend time with him, although it was often lacking affection due to how tired they both were by their jobs, it was just fine.

All until one gloomy winter afternoon.

The young boy who was merely 7 was skating, and despite how attentive his parents usually were, they for once weren't looking for a bit as they talked to a friend whom was also there.

That would be the worst mistake they every made.

The young boy would lose balance and fall over forwards. But instead of getting right back up, his luck ran out and he'd hit his head against a thinner bit of ice on the lake, falling right through the ice. Due to his young age he has yet to learn to swim properly and was unable to get out the freezing water.

everything went blank within a minute, and suddenly he woke up in a reality where he had no idea what happened just before.

He'd live through the reality that ended up nothing but a mere dream, it never happened, and yet he grew attached to the life he never truly experienced.

And when he died within that reality and got his idea of death mixed up after watching his "boyfriend" live on, almost spectating him after death. He'd wake up in another reality, laying in a hospital bed with numerous machines attached to him.

It was strange.

The lights were too bright.

He felt fuzy.

And soon enough people entered the room whilst he tried thinking of an explanation for all of this.

The reality was he fell into a coma when he was seven and never woke up for around 10 years.

His entire life was built off of fake experiences and his personality was a cluster of disorders that were formed because of a dream.

His parents were alive.

Father was crying.

Mothers body was full of life.

Why was everything like this? Why wasn't father dead? Or atleast showing signs of being angry?

Why was mother standing there? Why wasn't her neck bruised?

Why were they so upset? Why would they cry over him despite everything that happened before?

Right. Those things never happened.

After a while, Akio would be discharged from the hospital, still unable to understand the whole situation fully. Though despite it all, for some reason he still wished to attend school the moment he was allowed to.

His perspective on the situation would alter even further the day he did enter school and met the one who was with him all along in his dream, Sokai Hadeto.

The other seemed excited to see him but not much more, and no matter how much Akio would try to bring up any topic, he was met with a lump in his throat and tears forming in his eyes.

Why couldn't at least that be true? Why couldn't Sokai remember the same he did?

It was no use.

He could never get used to the reality at hand and it was all getting to him already. He couldn't handle his own fathers touch, he couldn't bear to see his own mother without seeing her dead corpse that he saw within his dreams, and worst of all, he couldn't handle the fact Sokai wasn't going to ever see him the same he saw him.

And unbeknownst to him, the week before his originally planned death, a little parasite came along. He stopped remembering his days and everyone began hating him, his parents grew distant and everyone seemed to talk about things he wasnt aware of. It all got even worse when he began getting horribly exhausted constantly after regaining consciousness, and it sucked even more that he occasionally was left with the feeling of skin in his teeth, as if he ate someone and somehow got away with it.

Somehow it managed to spiral further, he soon slept most days, he didn't remember anything and he sobbed for it all to stop, it was driving him mad and yet he couldnt end it due to the extreme exhaustion, he wanted to know what was happening, he NEEDED to know why everything was the way it was.

...

He got used to it though.

He no longer sobbed and instead was happy when he didn't have to be concious as it all was confusing to him, he was happy.

That would be the last thing he remembers before his memory went blank, he wasn't alive by that point, whatever was causing it all was the being that claimed his body.

And yet the last true thing he experienced as himself was the comforting feeling of water in his lungs and on his body.

...He'd spend quite a bit of time in hell before being reborn.

Yet in this life, all his dreams came true. His father was horrible, his mother ended up killing herself and he was average.

It all repeated itself. And yet this time he fell for one so abnormal one could cry.

Yet this abnormality he oh so loved was with another much better than he was. He couldn't quite take the horrible pain he felt that he could never even compare to someone so painfully perfect in his eyes. Even when others noticed his behaviors, it never stopped and only got worse and worse the less attention it got from this person. He hated how much he needed to be like them to even compare. And yet he somehow managed to live for a bit longer to meet Sokai who he quickly learnt was far from the healthiest mentally, yet despite it, he'd stay. He learnt to enjoy talking with him and soon trusted him more and more. He loved how positive he was despite how everything went horribly for him and it all seemed perfect. That was until one sad night, he'd remember it all again and would end up gutting himself. Death is simply something he cannot avoid.

rambling about Guz under the cut hsdhgjkl, CW for abuse and (c)ptsd talk as well as discussion of racism

i've hesitated to say anything about his trauma-caused aggression and anger because i fear it'll be misconstrued by ppl (<- tags on that other post that i'm going off of bc i wanna ramble abt it)

he's not Scary or Violent or Mean. i mean maybe other ppl might view him that way, he might come across that way if you don't know him well, but like.... its trauma. if you were physically abused as a child... yeah. youre gonna come out of that with issues that won't be pretty. you're not going to be the Perfect Victim. you are going to have symptoms and reactions and whatnot that are ugly and difficult and upsetting and hard-to-be-around sometimes.

I am really aware and cautious of the stereotype where many men of colour (mainly black men, but this also includes indigenous men and some other men of colour) are portrayed as being Big and Aggressive, so I have avoided getting anywhere near that, especially since I made the decision to change Guz's skintone in my portrayal of him (which I'm not going to get into, at least rn, but that decision was carefully thought out as well for me). So I always get a bit worried that IF I show any of that side of his trauma, it is going to come off the wrong way.

When I look at him being angry and aggressive in any way, I'm coming at it from the perspective of "this is a man who was a child who was abused and beaten, and he's grown up being taught he needs to Fight, that he needs to be scary in order to be safe, and he is very afraid in a way that translates to anger because that's the way he learned to deal with that emotion." And then we (Guz and co) figure out how to work with that, how to start unravelling all the trauma that's packed into that behaviour, how to start unlearning those reactions and begin working on new ways of Being. He's got a safe environment now, where the people he's around genuinely care about him, where he doesn't have to scare the people around him in order to be respected and safe. Plumes and the squad love him, and Junebug loves him, and he doesn't want to hurt any of them. He also doesn't want to continue that cycle of abuse, doesn't want the grunts or anyone else to feel afraid of him like he was afraid of his dad, nor does he want any of the grunts to feel like they have to be aggressive to be safe in the world.

I'm also aware of the fact that I have white skin even if I am indigenous lol, and the little white-skinned partner appearing to be the "uwu soft niceys" one in the relationship with the big "aggressive" man with brown skin is uhhhh a really fucking awful look! really fucked up! And it's not something I'm interested in presenting to the world, even if it's just in this small circle of the internet. That's a really fucked up dynamic to be putting out there without context lmao.

Anyways, so even if Guz has that shit going on, I'm very careful with how I present it and aware of how it might come across, and if I ever step over any lines, people are more than welcome to holler at me and let me know I've fucked up!

Currently, I figure he was working on shit for a while before my self-insert came along (this is not a case of "i will fix you all by myself" because again... my white skin makes it look like white saviorism, plus I do not think thats a very interesting dynamic for me personally anyways lol, you gotta be putting in a bit of work yourself for me to stick around very long and help you out), and then Junebug showing up was just another motivational force to keep working on his shit. Guz has a good group of people around him and Junebug is just kind of a bonus in the situation. He'd be putting in the work either way, but they're just a little extra boost for him.

I think he’ll always have a bit of a tendency to react with the fight instinct rather than flight or freeze in situations where he is genuinely terrified and doesn’t have time to think through a reaction, but all of the rest of it improves. It’s amazing what a person can change about the way their brain is wired with enough time and effort and support!

for this ask game - thank you so much for the ask, and so sorry for taking a bit to answer!!

i did a wheel spin for this and got Cato Rycort. however, i am incapable of answering for just 1 character apparently lol, so we get a bit abt Vyperelle Deidamia too!

all answers are below the cut since. nsfw and all that. but here's a tiny bit abt the characters first! just for context (and also I like to talk). they are both from the sins that make our sons, but aren't planned to have prominent roles until later on.

Cato (he/him) is an engineer and a sharpshooter, though he takes much more pride in his engineering and dislikes violence (this does not mean he won't do what he has to, and it certainly doesn't mean he's a poor fighter). Despite his generally stern demeanor, Cato has many facets. He is paired romantically with Wellyn Runewraith (eventually).

Vyperelle (she/her) is a mercenary who was raised in a militaristic cult, trained for violence and war from a very young age. Though she feels little guilt and can't quite grasp the concept of empathy, Vyperelle can be very charming, and does care deeply for those she chooses to connect with.

66. Do they have a "type" when it comes to sexual partners?

Cato definitely has a thing for people who can match his sarcasm/snark. He likes them feisty, bratty, and maybe a little bit arrogant. He also prefers partners who will let him top usually, though he'll bottom if the mood's right.

Vyperelle doesn't really have a specific type, but she usually won't go for anyone who's too submissive. She prefers sex to be a bit of a "fight for dominance", as stereotypical as that might sound. Someone who's willing to be rough with her and let her be rough with them is a major turn-on.

9. How vocal are they during sex?

Cato might as well be made of stone in this regard LOL. He'll talk a bit during it (usually to praise or tease) if he's really feeling it. Other than that, he does not make much noise at all.

It does kinda depend on how vocal her partner is, but Vyperelle is usually pretty damn loud. If she's not talking, then she's probably making noise, and if she's not making noise, then she's probably talking.

3. Did they have an experience they consider their "sexual awakening?"

See, Cato's case is a little entertaining to me lol. Like yeah, he thinks people are hot and does very much enjoy sex, but his interest in it is more... clinical? He kinda approaches it with a sense of curiosity and seeing what turns his partner on/what feels good to them and to him. He doesn't have much of a libido or like,, thirst for sex. So he hasn't had any sexual awakenings, even though he's had sex plenty of times. It's only when he realizes that he's attracted to Wellyn that he REALLY has an awakening lmao.

Vyperelle has never had any experience she would consider a sexual awakening. Her sex life really started with her and past partners fumbling around with each other and just... kinda progressed from there.

13. Have they ever had sex with multiple people?

Cato has. On several occasions. Others are typically very surprised when he reveals this.

Vyperelle never has before, as she typically feels more comfortable in one-on-one situations (whether sexual or just social), but she's not opposed to the idea.

honestly THANK YOU for saying all that abt baghra bc i thought i was going crazy from not liking her??? bc i haven't read the books and only summaries of them on wiki and like. i dunno why ppl like her actually even in the show bc this guy, her son, is like "i wanna make the world better for us grisha" and she's just like "no." even tho he sees that she's MAKING HERSELF SICK from suppressing her powers! she's literally like in bed coughing in the flashback yet seem much healthier at the little palace. also like after everything, after her disapproval, after the fold, after centuries of waiting for the sun summoner.. he never abandons her. he makes sure she's cares for. he doesn't harm her. and i have to wonder if baghra has ever thanks him for that, for just not leaving her alone. like i dunno how im suppose ro believe aleks is a heartless villain when he still cares for his abusive mom like this. like has baghra even told her she loved him (honestly she reminds me of a classic emotionally unavailable asian parent but maybe that's just me). also im wondering if baghra ever told aleks that he had an aunt.. bc like.. now that u bring up her isolating him it's like hmmmm...

not at me being like alina... why do u trust the bitter old woman who literally beats u with a stick and verbally abuses u every chance she gets.. just bc she showed a bad painting... like.. pls use two braincells to see that who u figured out as his mother... is also using his protection..

alsoim just impressed that after his first friend tried to drown him and harvest his bones... he didn't go into hiding???? he still wanted to make a safe heaven for grisha!!! honestly i feel like part of the reason why LB's plotlines seem so bad and disconnected (and sometimes outright racist but that's another rant) and why darkles is disproportionately more violent and villainous in the later books is bc she didn't expect the darkling to be so popular and wanted to stick with her guns of making him the villain. but also wanted the money from aleks's popularity. but like you can't have ur cake and eat it too.

Well thank you for sending this ask! It's very sweet and very passionate. I'm glad you liked my post! I didn't put as much thought into it as some of my others lol. I kind of just talked. But it was nice to be able to finally talk about some of the problems I have with both her character and the fandom/author's perception of her.

HERE is the post this is referring to, in case anyone's wondering.

👀👀 You've hit the nail on the head for so many things, here!

Baghra is extremely emotionally unavailable, basically to the point of neglect. She's also verbally and physically abusive, traits which I doubt were only reserved for her students and not her son. Baghra claims she would do anything to protect him, but I've known a lot of parents who have that mindset and yet still harm their children because they think it's "good for them".

Aleksander stays at Baghra's side for years, and even when they're opposing each other she's never too far away from him. Idk if you've read the books but he does eventually hurt her. And as much as I don't like Baghra, I think his actions were horrid. But I'm also honestly kind of surprised it took him so long lmao.

Yeah I mean, in terms of isolation, let's not forget that she never wanted to introduce him to his father, either. Baghra's sense of eternity clouds a lot of her judgments on relationships, which means she views most people as dust and therefore teaches her son to as well. The problem with that is that he's a growing child, and he needs those social and emotional attachments for healthy development.

I would bet quite a bit of money that Baghra has either never told him she loves him or she has told him so few times it's practically forgettable.

And everything becomes more complicated because so many of Baghra's actions are understandable because of her life and her history, but the impacts they have on the people around her, especially Aleksander, are permanently damaging. And the fact that that's never gone over in critical depth in the books or how it's glossed over in fandom is just very disconcerting. Like, acknowledging Baghra's failings doesn't mean we're excusing Aleksander's actions, it just means we're holding Baghra liable for her own. Which the fandom should be doing, considering she's the epitome of an abusive parental figure.

And Alina trusting Baghra over Aleksander is even more confusing! Especially in the show!! This is the woman who beat her and abused her and tortured her friends when they tiny little children (and who probably still does so now that they're adults). This is the woman who mocks you and harasses you and insults you on a regular basis. Why does Baghra revealing she's Aleksander's mother make Alina change her mind?! Like fuck, I'd just feel bad for Aleksander. No wonder he kept it a secret, I would too! And that painting is enough evidence?! Really?! A random painting shown to you by this abusive mentor that's been making your life hell. That's what you're going to betray your new lover over?

The friends trying to harvest his bones thing is a good point, too. I think Aleksander, especially show Aleksander, is incredibly idealistic. I think he cares too much for others - those he's deemed worth his care (a sentiment given to him by Baghra). Despite everything she's tried to teach him about hiding and abandoning others and never caring and never doing anything to help or reach out or connect with people, Aleksander still continues to do so. It's likely because he never got it from Baghra growing up, and so is desperate for those emotional needs to be fulfilled elsewhere.

His turning point, when Baghra tells him it was understandable that those kids tried to kill him because the world is such a hard place for them - that's crucial. And the reason it's possible as a motivating factor is because of that idealism and that desire to help and that desire to be everything his mother isn't. Baghra tells him this trauma he just experienced was because of the oppression of his people, and instead of following her lead and accepting that, going into hiding and abandoning everybody to their misery, he goes I can do something about that. I can make it so this never happens again. Which is usually how trauma like that combines with one's core personality traits at a young age, especially when there's none of the essential support systems in place to aid in recovery (ie, the role Baghra should have been filling but wasn't, because she decided to exacerbate the problem instead).

And yeah, one of my biggest problems with the ham-fisted "beating you over the head with a sledgehammer of evil deeds" look-how-bad-this-character-is! portrayal of the Darkling in the later books comes from the impression I get that Bardugo doesn't trust her readers. She's so desperate to have us hate this character and think him an irredeemable villain, not trusting any of her readers to engage critically with a morally gray character, that it feels quite a bit like condescending fucking bullshit. Which ew, I know how to engage with literature, thanks.

She really does seem to look down on a large part of her fandom, and imo, the infantilization of the female characters in her books seems to carry over to her impression of most of her female readers as well. Which is why the Darkling's character arc gets fucking destroyed. But he's still a good cash grab, of course, so she'll shake his dead corpse in front of the fandom for money every time she wants something from it.

Also! Another reason I think her plotlines feel disconnected (I'm sorry Bardugo I respect you as a person, but shit-) is because the writing in SaB is just bad. I mean, nevermind the absolutely nauseating implications of the way she portrays the Grisha as a persecuted group who's situation is never actually fully addressed as it should be, considering Grisha rights is what her main villain is fighting for (imo for a series called the Grishaverse, LB seems to be pretty anti Grisha), but her characters and story alone are just wrong for each other. They don't fit together.

And the ending is one of the main pieces of evidence in that regard! You can’t say the ending where Alina isn’t Grisha anymore is her “going back to where she started” when she’s always been Grisha. She just didn’t know she was Grisha because she denied that part of herself that she was born with.

Alina is reluctant to move forward or change, she struggles with adapting, and she’s very set on the things she’s grown attached to throughout her life. She also has some latent prejudices against the Grisha, and so denies the possibility of being Grisha for those reasons as well.

Alina’s lack of powers in the beginning of her life because she willfully doesn’t learn about them to avoid change versus her lack of powers at the end of the book when she’s accepted them and then they’re stripped away from her by outer forces are two entirely separate circumstances. You can’t make a parallel about lost powers and lack of Grisha status bringing her back to the start when she was always Grisha and she always had powers and she simply refused to come to terms with it because of personal reasons.

The first situation is an internal conflict that indicates a story about growth and a journey of self acceptance. Denying herself the opportunity to learn about her heritage and to find acceptance with a group of people like her because she’s tied to the past and because of the way she was raised is the setup for a narrative that tackles unlearning prejudice and learning how to connect with a part of her identity that was denied her and learning how to grow independent and self assured. It’s the setup for a different story entirely. The second situation is an external conflict that centers around the ‘corrupting influence of power’... for some reason.

In a world where Grisha do not have social, political, or economic power and they are hunted, centering your heroine’s journey of self acceptance and growth around an external conflict about... the corrupting influence of power (in a group of people that don’t actually have any power?!) just doesn’t work. It is literally impossible to connect the two stories Bardugo is trying to push in Shadow and Bone without seriously damaging the main character’s developmental arc.

The only way a narrative like this would work, claiming that she has gone back to where she started, is either a) if the Grisha weren’t actually a persecuted group and instead were apart of the upper class, or b) if the one bad connection between the two instances is acknowledged - that Alina denied a part of herself crucial to self acceptance and growing up, and that losing her powers at the end has also denied her. It is a tragedy, not a happy ending.

Alina suffered because she didn’t use her powers. She grew sick. It was bad for her. This was not a resistance to 'the corruption of power and the burden of greed', it was her suffering because she couldn’t fully accept herself.

Framing the ending as a return to the beginning can’t be done if you don’t address how bad the beginning was for your main character. You brought her back to a bad point in her life. You regressed her. This should be a low point in her arc. It should be a problem that’s solved so she can finish developing organically or it should be something that is acknowledged as a tragedy in it’s own right, for the future the world (the writing) denied her.

This is a ramble and it makes no sense and I’m really sorry, but my point is that Bardugo put the wrong characters in the wrong story. The character arc required for organic development doesn’t match the story and intended message at all. The narrative doesn’t fit the cast. She's got two clashing stories attempting to work in tandem and she ends up with both conflicting messages that fans still can’t comprehend in her writing and an ending that doesn’t suit her main character to such an impossible degree that it’s almost laughable.

So yeah, there's a few reasons why I think the story and the plot feels so bad and disconnected. I hope you don't mind me making this answer so long! 😅 I was not expecting to write this much.

Slitherwings - very poisonous dragons! Even their skin is coated in poison. Like snake appearance. Not much is known about its poison and how it works but there is an antidote -> combination of angel fern root, pine sap and Slitherwing venom. The skin coating protects them from Garff's amber

Stormfly is such a badass omg I love her sm the way she protected Garff

Garff is an excellent shot according to Fishlegs

Fishlegs telling Astrid to look at him is just adorable, the way he wanted her to feel better 😭

Have I mentioned how much I love lil Hiccstrid moments? They dont even have to be romantic but just them? Like he just lightly touched her shoulder and told her to be strong and be there for Stormfly 🥺

It really bothered me that Astrid had to stay behind in Looking for Oswald... And Chicken [ep12] just to take care of the twins when we could've had some Hiccstrid 😩😭 but it makes sense because Astrid is the only one Hiccup can actually trust on to keep things under control because even though Fishlegs is kinda sane neither the twins nor Snotlout would listen to him and Snotlout would definitely join the twins or just make things worse somehow. I really dislike Johan sm u guys don't understand like I used to like him and feel bad whenever ppl cut him short but ughhhhhhh it's the subtle things too like him telling Heather to give them the dragon eye, him screaming in Snotlout's ear, not extending his hand to grab Heather, and him putting his hand out to "grab" the lens but just causing Snotlout to drop it

hyunjin would probably noticed the panicked look in her eyes and wondered why

since his friends like felix and...jisung...and seungmin are like on good terms with her

borderlines on overthinking since both felix and jisung are particularly close to her

so she should know that he’s friends with them

and she’s one of their fallen victims towards their charms

this isn’t fair for her heart

so when the bus arrived

they sat beside each other on the bus

hyunjin did most of the chattering while mc listens

he was so glad he cleared smth up with her

if she allows it, he would definitely tried to hug her

until he remembers that one time changbin told him he almost got punch in the face by her

when he tried doing it the first time and startled her

yeah no not now

maybe sometime in the near future, a long-awaited hug would be great

(if he was honest tho, he really wanted to cry when she told him the truth)

(it felt like a heartache)

but it’s okay now though

they’re friends now (somewhat) and that’s all that matters

personally i think rciel is capable of greater evil AND kindness than ociel

like i think theyre pretty much the same but rciel is more on an extreme scale.. like, ociel loves something but rciel LOVES it you know what i mean??? and ociel hates stuff but rciel hates stuff. you get me??like, he feels stuff deeper and he gets more attached despite having better composure.

while ociel def cares abt ppl, its easy for him to let them go and/or move on ahead without them (’cos of a wall he built due to trauma ofc but he was kinda always like that given his low self esteem and feeling like a burden) and he obviously feels guilt when he does bad things like killing good people (like the circus crew who were victims of their circumstances) or sacrificing innocent lives (like the prostitute he used in order to catch madam red).

but for rciel, i don’t think he’s someone that can just... detach himself from ppl he cares abt like oc. i dont mean it in like a, “oh we’re always gonna be together forever” kind of way— i DO think he was able to accept that he & oc we’re gonna go their separate ways as adults and i think he accepted that no matter the distance and no matter what they’re always be brothers. it’s the emotional attachment he can’t get rid of. like, he can’t just “oh wow i loved you and you hurt me?? you fucked me over?? i hate you now. i don’t care what happens to you anymore.”

LIKE I MEAN... he’s capable of, you know, fighting back and hurting them as we see he’s currently doing with ociel (though i genuinely think he could do so much worse and is going soft on him*) but regardless he clearly still loves and cares about him.. shown to be proud of his growth and his achievements when any normal person in his situation would feel bitter and resentment. its an excellent contrast to oc who is mad with rage and ready and willing to take him down loool

*(not saying i think he’s underestimating him or anything. he’s just not really giving it his all in this battle, i think. not yet, at least lol.)

and like... ociel is able to form new bonds like with soma, sieglinde, the servants etc.. he’s capable of like.. starting again with other people. “wah wah they’re just pawns.” no they’re not. he obviously cares about them but there’s a lot of things holding him back from fully embracing it.

but like.. i don’t think rciel is.. or rather, i dont think he would even be interested in that. like, if rciel was the one to survive instead, i think his attachment to his family would forbid him from ever moving on. instead of being like ociel, where he’s terrified of finding happiness again, i think he would genuinely just straight up not care about anyone else because no one will ever replace his family. im not saying ociel’s “replacing” them ofc, but that’s probably how rciel would see it.

i think, in a way, its like what ociel tries to be, that “i dont care about anyone. i’ll use anyone as my pawns” is what rciel would be if he lived instead.

and like, it’s so telling how rciel says “father / auntie ann / lizzie” while ociel uses “my predecessor / madam red / elizabeth” etc... ociel distances himself while rciel fully embraces it.

i always envisioned that rciel would not like diedrich calling him son all the time if he and ociel switch places lol. ociel doesnt mind at all but i like to imagine rciel twitching ever so slightly and saying “I’m not your son” ; v;

and like, i dont think rciel would be cool with grell strutting around in madam red’s jacket after killing her sdhusijd. i mean ociel is really just like, “oh yeah.. whatever what’s done is done” but im really hoping at some point in the manga, if rciel meets grell again, he’ll put two and two together and be like ... “Is that my fuckign aunt’s coat???” SUHDIS I THINK IT’D BE SOO FUNNY and would LOVE the contrast between him & ociel’s kinda defeatist attitude abt it LMAO

do you think you could do a rotations au where y/n ends up with sokka 🥺 the babysitting story killllllled me (i read rotations in an all nighter i LOVED IT 💕💕💕)

HI and thank you to those of you who requested this!! i want to preface that this is NOT canon in the rotations universe (if that’s a thing lmao), it’s just a fun what if that i am writing :) but this is not canon for my fanfic!! i just feel the need to reiterate that lmao

(Y/N) had been no stranger to nightmares throughout her life. Haunting images of ghosts and monsters plagued her occasionally but usually faded away with time. They would wake her in the middle of the night with a start and beating heart, but she would find her way back to sleep eventually.

When (Y/N) opened her eyes, she found her reality to be the nightmare. She turned over in bed and stared at the empty space, perfectly untouched. She shut her eyes tightly and lay there for a few minutes, trying her hardest to suppress the tears that threatened to spill onto her pillowcase.

The door to her bedroom creaked open and her daughter, Izumi, poked her head into the room. She was nine now, the same age that (Y/N) had been when she had met Zuko, and had a hard time comprehending what was going on.

(Y/N) sat up quickly, painting a smile on her face for her daughter. “Good morning, little petal,” She said, outstretching her arms. Izumi padded quickly to her bedside, lifting herself onto her bed and fitting into (Y/N’s) lap. Her head rested against her chest and she could feel her mother’s heartbeat.

“I dreamed about him again,” Izumi whispered quietly. (Y/N) gripped her daughter tightly, pressing her lips onto the crown of her dark head.

“What was he doing?” (Y/N) asked.

“He smiled at me,” Izumi said. “He said he missed us.” (Y/N) held in the sob that threatened to wrack her body. She wanted, no needed, to be strong for Izumi. (Y/N) was all she had left.

Izumi turned, sitting up to face her mother. “You can cry, Mommy. Daddy said it’s okay to cry.”

(Y/N) felt all of her resolve break. In an instant, it was Izumi holding her mother and (Y/N) sobbed into her daughter’s hair. She held Izumi so tight because she feared if she let go, she would fade away. Their daughter was the only piece of Zuko that she had left. She had his dark hair and amber eyes. Every facial expression she made was a near copy of her father’s. It made (Y/N) feel horrible to admit it, but sometimes she couldn’t look at her own daughter.

When (Y/N) had started to calm down, Izumi sat up. Her own tears streaked down her face. (Y/N) wiped them away with her thumbs and kissed both of her cheeks. Izumi did the same to her. “I miss him a lot,” Izumi said, her bottom lip wobbling. (Y/N) hugged her daughter once more.

“Me too,” She said. (Y/N) sniffled and wiped away more tears. “We have to get ready for today. The servants should have placed a white dress in your closet.”

“I don’t want to wear it,” Izumi sighed. (Y/N) gulped.

“I don’t either,” She said. “But it’s the best way to honor your father.” Izumi nodded and hopped off of the bed, walking out of the bedroom and returning to her room. Slowly, (Y/N) slid out of bed and moved over to the window. The sun still rose and the birds still sang in the trees. She wondered how life could continue when something so horrible had happened.

The servants helped her get ready that morning. They fastened her into her white dress and started braiding her hair until she had ordered them not to. Zuko had told her once that he liked it when it was down. “It’s wild like you,” He had said with a smile on his face. (Y/N) could feel the pain stab her in the heart whenever she thought of him.

Once dressed, she left the room and walked down the Hall of Fire Lords. At the very end was Zuko’s portrait. His eyes were kind, his lips painted with just a lilt of a smile to them. (Y/N) reached out and touched the fabric, holding her palm to it before continuing down the hallway.

When she reached the dining room, her friends were sat around the table, entertaining Izumi. She sat in Katara’s lap as Aang amazed her with his airbending. (Y/N) felt a genuine smile raise to her lips for the first time in days.

Sokka was the first one to notice her. He was at her side almost immediately, taking her hands in his. His blue eyes stared into her soul.

“Don’t hug me,” She whispered to him. “I might break down.” Sokka smiled sadly and walked her over to the dining table. Numbly, she sat at her regular seat, to the right of Zuko’s chair at the head of the table. She chewed the food that the servants had prepared for her, but she couldn’t taste it. She avoided to fruit tarts at all costs.

“How was your trip?” She asked, directing the question to all of her friends.

“Pretty good,” Toph said. She hadn’t even sat with her feet propped on the table like she normally would. (Y/N) sat her chopsticks down and wiped her mouth, turning to Izumi.

“Would you please feed the turtle ducks this morning? They must be wondering where we are.” Izumi pouted and opened her mouth to argue with her mother, but Aang grabbed her by the hand.

“I’ll go with you,” He said. (Y/N) flashed him a thankful smile as he led Izumi out of the room.

“You all don’t have to pretend like there’s nothing wrong,” (Y/N) assured her friends as she stared down at her plate. “I’m not fragile.”

“We know,” Katara assured her, resting a hand on hers. “This is...this is hard for all of us. But we want you to know that you don’t have to be strong right now.”

(Y/N) opened and clenched her fist around the sleeves of her dress. The feeling was the only thing grounding her to reality. She laughed bitterly. “I haven’t stopped crying for days,” She admitted. “Izumi wiped away my tears this morning. I haven’t been strong at all.”

“You have,” Sokka whispered. “You’re the strongest person I know.” She turned to look at him. It had barely been a year since he had lost Suki. It had been during a battle and she had died fighting. If anyone knew what she was going through, it would be Sokka.

“I don’t know if I can do it without him,” (Y/N) whispered, her eyes watering once more. She didn’t even know what ‘it’ was, but as far as she cared it could be everything. Zuko had been at her side since she was a child. Everything she had ever done, she had done with him.

“You don’t have to,” Toph reassured her. “You have us to help.”

The funeral was long. (Y/N) stood by Zuko’s coffin with her head raised regally, Izumi at her side. If she couldn’t stay strong behind closed doors, she would definitely stay strong for the people of the Fire Nation. She watched as the people in attendance weeped for the death of their Fire Lord. Barely any of them had known Zuko personally, but it warmed her heart the tiniest bit to think he could have positively impacted them in any way.

At the end of the funeral, (Y/N) kneeled to the ground. The Fire Sages crowned her Fire Lord until Izumi came of age. They placed the very same crown that Zuko had worn in her hair and she had to squeeze her hands together to prevent them from shaking.

Her friends stayed with her for a few days after the funeral, but one by one, eventually they were called away. Toph was the first to leave, having to run her earthbending academy. Aang left shortly after on an important Avatar mission. (Y/N) could tell that Katara missed him, so she assured her friend that she would be fine and that she should be with him.

“Take it from me,” (Y/N) said sadly. “You’ll want to spend every moment you can with him.”

The only one that remained was Sokka. He read to Izumi every night before she slept and kept her company while (Y/N) attended Fire Lord meetings. He ate every meal with them and while (Y/N) enjoyed his presence, she worried that he was neglecting his duties by being with them. She expressed this to him one night, after Izumi had gone to bed.

“I’m not missing anything the Water Tribe can’t handle by themselves,” He admitted. “I get the occasional messenger hawk, but I always reply back as quickly as possible.” He had grabbed her hand and given it a tight squeeze. “I’m not going to leave you anytime soon.”

His room was the guest room down the hall from hers. Sometimes, in the middle of the night, (Y/N) would wake up sobbing hysterically. She rarely dreamed but when she did, they were always of Zuko. She dreamt that he was laying next to her, or that he had disappeared in the palace, but she always found him again. He would take her into his arms, laughing happily, and always he would say, “Do you know how much I love you?”

That was the moment (Y/N) would wake up, her sobs wracking her throat and shaking her body. Tears would stream down her face faster than she could wipe them away. Sokka would then enter her room, half asleep, and hold her as she cried. She’d try to explain to him what had happened in her dream, but no words what come out. He never pressured her to answer. He would stroke her hair to soothe her and rub his fingers up and down her back. Eventually, she would fall asleep from pure exhaustion, and when she had woken up again, he would be gone.

Sokka spent months at the royal palace with (Y/N) and Izumi. He was definitely lying to (Y/N) when he had told her he wasn’t missing much from the Water Tribe, but there was no way he would leave her side. Even if he put his feelings for her aside, (Y/N) had been a constant in Sokka’s life when he had lost Suki. She had traveled to the Water Tribe in the dead of winter to offer her condolences from her family. The least he could do was remind her that she wasn’t completely alone in the world.

It hurt him, knowing she was hurting this much. She had loved Zuko with her whole heart, and Sokka had known that. That’s why he had broken up with her so many years ago. He had seen the longing glances they had given each other over the months she had joined their team. He hadn’t felt right in standing between what was meant to be. But while he hadn’t known then, Sokka certainly knew now that he loved (Y/N) with his entire being. He had for a long time and just hadn’t realized it. And he would take this secret with him to the grave.

(Y/N) stood on the balcony of her bedroom late in the night. The moon was full and cast a bright light down onto the turtle duck pond below her. Sometimes, (Y/N) found it was better for her not to sleep. She knew “better” wasn’t quite the truth, but she hadn’t had a dream about Zuko in a few nights and feared that it would happen tonight. And while she wanted to see her husband more than anything, she didn’t think she could handle waking up and realizing that he was no longer there.

She heard her door crack open and turned back to see who it was. Sokka entered her room, his eyes wide with curiosity. He smiled at her once he laid eyes on her. “Izumi’s asleep.”

“Thank you,” (Y/N) said. He joined her on the balcony. “I’m worried she’s going to start hating me for not reading to her more.”

“She could never hate you,” Sokka said. “You should hear the way she talks about you. ‘Mommy’s so strong. Did you know she’s the best firebender in the world?’“ (Y/N) laughed at Sokka’s Izumi impression. It was high pitched and sounded absolutely nothing like her daughter.

“Best firebender in the world is a stretch, I think. Aang definitely has me beat by a little bit.”

“Nah,” Sokka said, nudging her with his elbow. “You could definitely take him.”

(Y/N) chuckled, staring at her fingers as they wrapped around the railing of the balcony. “I haven’t cried at all this week,” She admitted to him. “I feel horrible.”

“Why?” Sokka asked.

“Because I feel like not crying means I’m forgetting about him,” She sighed, tilting her face up to look at the moon. “And I’m scared that I’ll forget about him.”

“You’ll never forget about Zuko,” Sokka said softly. “And I mean, it’s kind of hard to when his face is plastered all over the palace.”

(Y/N) laughed again and Sokka felt his stomach flutter with butterflies. She turned to look at him, her face softening. “I can’t thank you enough for everything you’ve done over these past few months.”

“What are friends for?” Sokka asked, but it hurt his own heart to say it. (Y/N) nodded, just the slightest bit of disappointment evident on her face.

“Sometimes it feels like he’s watching me,” (Y/N) said. “It’s like I turn around and I can almost see him there.”

“I’m sure he is watching you. You were the best part of his life.” (Y/N) blushed.

“He’s one of the best parts of mine.”

“He’d want you to try to be happy.” (Y/N) nodded.

“I know. It’s just hard. And I’m scared.”

“Scared?”

“I guess I’m scared to open up again.”

“Oh. I know that feeling.” (Y/N) frowned. She felt like she had said something so insensitive to Sokka. How could she forget about Yue? About Suki?

“They’d want you to be happy, too,” She assured him.

“I am happy,” He said with a big smile.

“Really? You’re happy cooped up in a palace with a widow and her daughter?”

“Honestly, I’ve been the happiest I’ve been in a long time. I love Izumi and I love you.” (Y/N’s) smile faltered at his words.

“We love you too.” Sokka shook his head.

“I love you, (Y/N), always will.”

“Sokka...”

“And I know you’re not ready and you don’t know if you’ll ever be ready. But that’s okay with me. I just enjoy being around you.”

(Y/N) grabbed his face between her hands and kissed him. Instinctively, his hands wrapped around her waist and pulled her close. When they pulled apart, both their eyes were wide with surprise. “I don’t know if that can mean anything,” She told Sokka. “I don’t know if I’m ready. I don’t-”

“It’s okay,” Sokka assured her. He pulled her close and hugged her. “You don’t have to know. I’ll be here regardless.”

yes i headcanon them having a cat that goku finds in the woods one day and brings home, vegeta’s like “ew an animal?? in our house??? kakarot get rid of it” but goku is eventually able to soften vegeta to the point where he begrudgingly agrees to tolerate having a cat in the house. but i think vegeta ends up growing attached to the cat and loves her in his own weird vegeta-branded way, he calls her horrible names and pets her rly roughly and “argues” with her all the time but she sleeps curled up at his legs every night and theyre basically inseparable 😭 for some reason i’m very obsessed w this concept i think abt it a lot HAHA

yes of course vegeta likes cuddles, i think vegeta’s a very touch-centric person and sometimes he gets randomly overstimulated and needs space but usually i think he’s near goku a Lot and always at least has a hand on him lol

AND OKAY FMJCNC I KNOW IM TOSSING A LOT OF HEADCANONS INTO THE AIR HERE BUT,, i like to think that vegeta is always quietly worried about if goku is hungry or not LOL like i think whenever they’re apart vegeta will just randomly be like “i wonder if kakarot has eaten today” or just kinda stays concerned abt it LOL, I MEAN he would obviously never ever express that out loud to anyone ever and if goku even suggested that this was the case vegeta would go into full denial lmao but thats not to say if goku oversteps a boundary and tries to like. steal vegeta’s food or smth, vegeta will probably go off on him HAHA, in the end vegeta is still competitive and takes everything goku does as a challenge so as long as he’s sure goku’s fed enough then he won’t think twice about arguing over who gets the last dumpling or smth 😭

full moon monkey fights 😭 i love that because i feel rly strongly about vegeta sharing saiyan culture with goku and goku complying with it bc it seems to make vegeta happy 😭 like not only would those fights be rly intense bc theyre both so powerful in that form (which goku would love ofc) but i also feel like it’d be rly good for bonding and feeling closer to their saiyan roots lol

a voltron au? in 2020? it’s more likely than you think

look. LOOK. i know that voltron is stupid and we hate it but lets be honest: everything up until season 3 was pretty good and had lots of potential !!

today i was rewatching voltron and a thought struck me: what if, instead of shiro being cloned, he was chipped and turned to the side of the galra?

so here it is, i did not blink since i thought of this

(warning, i have not seen voltron in a while and this is just knowledge i have stored in my moss brain and stuff i know from rewatching the first season)

au where shiro goes evil bc of what happens @ end of season one instead of the clone thing bc 1) haggar rly could not have made thousands of shiros after bumping into team voltron like what twice? its hella improbable and 2) just… weird

so instead they insert a chip in him that helps them spy and control him just like kuron (the clone) did minus the unlikely storytelling

eventually after the convo with sendak when he was in the pod trying to temp shirp, he does have thoughts about helping zarkon

(“im already infiltrated with the arm, i could just speed up the process by leaving now. save the team the trouble of investing in a leader that’s doomed to fail from the strart.”)

shiro ends up leaving team voltron in season 2 after zarkon goes crazy w the black lion n stuff

^^ this adds to Keith’s reasoning of joining the Blade of Marmora (shiro is his main stability and one of the main reasons he even stuck around with team voltron, so with shiro gone and keith questioning his place as the leader and paladin of the black lion, he decides the BoM is just.. what’s best for him)

obviously lance isn’t happy with this (“you just told me that i’m a valuable member, now you don’t think YOU are? what logic is that?”)

ofc keith goes anyways

lance becomes paladin of the black lion

allura takes on the red lion

who has blue lion? ...idk this isn’t that thought out (maybe matt after pidge finds her family) (which will happen earlier in the plot since we can forget about the miniplot of black no longer responding to shiro)

enter lotor only this time he has a sidekick and what omg its shiro wow

shiro has that bigger version of his arm that was once offered to him

he’s stronger and scary, but his eyes aren’t the same, he has the strength of a galra but lacks the passion

in the fight between lotor and zarkon, (and after, of course lots of self doubt and questioning) shiro comes between them and convinces lotor NOT to kill zarkon

then zarkon kills lotor

everyones like oh shit bc surely someone who’s life was just spared wouldn’t kill the person who seems to have the most power

but he did. bc he’s zarkon. and he’s fckn crazy.

shiro doesn’t go back to team voltron bc its too much too easily

instead he takes the place of lotor in the group of gals

he convinces them all to rebel against the galra

eventually they teach him all about quintessence and all the shit lotor had planned that they can’t do anymore

(lotor wasn’t harvesting alteans in this universe bc what the heck even was that subplot that had little to no relevance to the main storyline?

instead he was trying to find a way to technologically bring back alteans (kinda like how allure’s dad was originally preserved in s1)

i know nothing about How Stuff Works and i dont remember much about quintessence n shit but the basic idea is that when tying in some of a persons artifacts with technology stuff and some quintessence then boom. a weird route from astral projection land to the team is created and ppl can come back or smth idfk

but lotor was never able to get the comet so shiro decides he and the gals will get that comet and try to bring back as many alteans as they can

^ all this while infiltrating as many galra fleets as possible + saving planets under galra empire

they personally visit every planet that lotor was in charge of and release them from galra control

they are able to bring back an altean (its romelle) and she talks abt her friend who lives on the balmera and they go to the balmera and its revealed that it was shay’s great grandmother so romelle asks where shay is and shay’s family is like with team voltron of course

they take her

obviously team voltron, the BoM and the Rebels r very hesitant to make contact but they decide to try it out

keith refuses to meet, instead he’s on the team that stands guard

reunions !!

romelle and shay hit it off and hunk makes a dinner much like roselle’s past (allura and coran also hang out and they all vibe)

lance talks to shiro abt everything to do with keith and shiro is like dude do u??? like him?

and lance is like what? no ofc not—oh shit.

and keith ✨overhears ✨

pidge matt and shiro catch up n shit

meanwhile keith is like Hey Lance Uhhhhhh What The Fuck

they end up being like hey since we’re all here and we hate zarkon what if we make a plan to end the galra’s reign Right Now

so they do

and y’all.. it’s hella baller plan

except something is going wrong and in the middle of an attack zarkon is able to get the upper hand

due to haggar’s magic and lance’s mental and emotional instability, zarkon is able to get in his head

everyone is trying to talk him down but they’re all under a lot of pressure

allura is also conflicted bc she wanted to be black lion bc she wanted to rub it in to zarkon’s face that she was stronger than he and that she could beat him at his own game

but the negativity and instability feeds into zarkon’s power and makes him and haggar stronger as they pull in voltron to finally take over the team and regain their status as the most powerful alien race

hunk realizes this and is like okay can y’all stop being negative? its clearly affecting them in a good way and it makes us an easier target

and pidge is like im literally a child pls i don’t wanna die i just got my family back it can’t end like this

shiro realizes what’s going on and he goes to save them

he uses all his energy, pulling in the positive memories (everything: first learning about space, becoming a teacher, meeting adam, meeting keith, first making team voltron, his friends and family--all of it) to push back zarkon and haggar’s powers and battle once more in the astral realm

in defeating zarkon, shiro loses his life

afterwards keith enters the ship in a hurry and is like where the fuck is shiro where’s my brother what did you do what happened

and team voltron is like hey man.. we are so so sorry

and keith cries because the last thing he ever said to shiro was mean

lance feels like its all his fault since he was supposed to be a good leader

they talk about separately while hunk pidge and allura discuss

krolia is like keith we, ur family, are here for u

and axca is there and shes like um?? hey?? sry for trying to kill u bro

and he’s like i absolutely do not wanna talk i just lost my closest friend

they talk about it later

axca tells keith abt shiro finishing lotor’s work and abt bringing people back and well..

they use the methods to help keith visit shiro in the astral realm

shiro is like oh uh hey i was just having a drink w adam we r happy

and keith is like shiro u fuckhead why would u sacrifice urself

shiro sighs bc cmon keith you KNOW why “remember what i always said? we can’t focus on what went wrong..”

“we’ve got to figure out how to make it right” keith finishes

keith breaks tf down crying and screams apologizing

“i love u shiro. ur a like a big brother to me.”

and shiro is like yeah i know and ilyt but hey. everyone’s safe and happy. im safe and happy. & you deserve to be too. you don’t need me anymore.

so the galra rule is over and everyone goes to their respected planets

romelle and the other alteans as well as some galra babes hang in earth

romelle and shay r in an apartment together and have a garden

allura realizes she may not have been the strongest leader for voltron, and couldn’t stop zarkon on her own but that physical strength doesn’t define her as a whole

her heart is strong enough to care for everyone, so thats what she does

allura starts running an inn for alteans filled with painted sceneries like altea in case anyone ever needs a reminder of home

when lance reunites with his family its a real tearjerker

rachel finally gets her jacket back and veronica is like So.. Axca 👀

the McClain’s host a huge party for everyone and it’s filled with lots of hugs and loud music and even tho lance was way too tired, he danced all night

he wouldn’t trade his family for the world—genetic and chosen

when hunk reunites with his parents they don’t let him out the house for hours, he tells them all about his new best friend shay as well as hundreds of his favorites stories from space

they are so, so proud of him

hunk spends the next days playing minecraft and animal crossing with pidge, giving their brains a rest from being on hyperdrive for 3 yrs straight

the holt family holds movie nights filled with popcorn, cuddles, and tears

keith moves in with the holt family, and finally accepts that he has a home as well as a family

he often goes on trips with the BoM but mostly just stays on earth

after a Team Voltron sleepover in the altea inn keith and lance decide to get an apartment together and live their lives in love and in peace

everyone gets together once a year in celebration of shiro and the sacrifice he made for them

they use the ship to visit Astral Shiro and once they even met adam

everyone laughs and catches up and just... live their lives

everyone is happy

i'm back with my bs. this is for my bestie @lady-ofmagic-andstars. basically, all of my dumb thoughts while i watched 'darkest hour pt 2', 04.02 of merlin. in case you weren't aware.. ✨spoilers✨

right off the bat i'm sad

ok when i first watched this i was really confused. i mean, you see others when they interact with the dorocha have that perpetual frost on their face right? all of them, every single one. so imagine my surprise when merlin has no frost on his face, and he's miserable yea- but he's not dead??

like tbh, watching this again, ik why but when i first watched this, i was SO confused.

him being willing to abandon the mission to get merlin back to camelot to be treated 😔🤪😎🤤🤩 lots of emotions

but i mean, merlin is already raising himself up so he can sit more comfortably on the horse. ik that doesn't mean that he's in the clear yet, but he's doing a LOT better than the other people who ran into the dorocha. idk where i'm going with this

to quote the destiny and chicken podcast (who i love btw, if you want an awesome merlin podcast, check them out), they stay on arthur's face for SO long after merlin and lancelot leave.

i feel EVERYTHING that arthur is feeling in this moment. he's so pretty
