Everyone wanting Purple Hawke carnally through sheer magnetism is all well and good, but I personally like the idea of Blue Hawke showing people the first bit of kindness and respect they’ve gotten in years and can’t help fall in love with them.

saints do you ever think about Barty’s time in Azkaban
i think it’s objectively hilarious that he was only there for “about a year” before his parents busted him out. and then he started bragging about surviving azkaban like. love of my life. that was basically just an interesting gap semester that you had 😭
but generally i think it’s pretty straightforward in there? i think the way dementors alienate you from yourself was already pretty familiar to him because of his childhood, and that’s why he bounced back so quickly. his post-azkaban “kept under imperius & under an invisibility cloak” imprisonment is much sadder to me than his actual prison stay

Summer Reading Update (part 1)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Teach the Torches to Burn by Caleb Roehrig - 4.75/5 stars
This was a really well done retelling of Romeo and Juliet. I read another book from the Remixed Classics series, Dear Henry, and while that one was also good, it felt like it adhered too slavishly to The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, so sometimes things seemed to be happening only because they happened in the original. And I haven't actually read the original book, it was just...easy to tell. Teach the Torches to Burn never felt like that, and I loved how it fleshed out so many of the characters from the play.
You Should Be So Lucky by Cat Sebastian - 5/5 stars
I feel like tumblr sings this one's praises enough that I don't really have to, but—everyone should read this. Everyone should read all of Cat Sebastian's books. I think I liked this one better than We Could Be So Good, but that could just be because I've found myself becoming more and more of a sucker for sports romances.
Unhallowed by Jordan L Hawk - 4.75/5 stars
Sad to say goodbye to the Whyborne and Griffin series, but I already love this spinoff!
Soul of Ash by HL Moore - 3.75/5 stars
Crow's Fate by Kim Fielding - 3.75/5 stars
The Sleeping Soldier by Aster Glenn Gray - 5/5 stars
I sound like a broken record re: Aster Glenn Gray, but please read her books. If you like Cat Sebastian's mid-century romances (like You Should Be So Lucky!) you like Aster Glenn Gray. This one is ostensibly a Sleeping Beauty retelling, but one where the sleeper actually sleeps for 100 years. In this case, it's a Union soldier who is put in an enchanted sleep in 1865 and wakes up in 1965 and oh my god, it's so good. It examines racism, it examines toxic masculinity, it examines homophobia, and how same-sex platonic affection became taboo. I'm pretty sure this woman has never written a bad book, but this may be her best.
Alec by Kaje Harper - 3.75/5 stars
Artemis by Andy Weir - 3.75/5 stars
Oak King Holly King by Sebastian Nothwell - 4.75/5 stars
I loved this one! There are so many books about Faerie and they can be pretty hit or miss for me, but this one struck just the right balance of otherworldly, inhuman creatures and characters I could root for. Shrike and Wren were lovely.
Imperfect Illusions by Vanora Lawless - DNF at pg 56
Orchestrated Love by AJ Buchanan - DNF at pg 1
Razorblade Tears by SA Cosby - 4.25/5 stars
The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern - 5/5 stars (reread)
The Only Light Left Burning by Erik J Brown - 5/5 stars
Excellent sequel about what happens after you make it to the last bastion of civilization after the apocalypse.
Unwieldy Creatures by Addie Tsai - DNF at pg 12
A Nobleman's Guide to Seducing a Scoundrel by KJ Charles - 5/5 stars
Oh man. This may have displaced the Will Darling Adventures as my favorite KJ Charles book. Wonderful MCs, A+ side character arcs, and villains you really loved to hate. I rambled on a lot about this book to my wife after I finished it.
Stars in Your Eyes by Kacen Callender - DNF at pg 156
His Lordship's Secret by Samantha SoRelle - 3.75/5 stars
Us, Et Cetera by Kit Vincent - 5/5 stars
Cinderella retelling with androids but Christ on a bike was this a painful read. Really, really well done. Highly recommended.
Charming Young Man by Eliot Schrefer - 5/5 stars
My 5 star rating diverges pretty sharply from the average Storygraph rating for this book, and I'm not sure why, other than maybe people thinks it's PrObLeMaTic. It was definitely not a super happy book, though it ends on a good note (that's a pun btw!). I thought it was a great book about a period that isn't often written about (1890s Paris) with a fascinating protagonist (who was a real person).
Dark Heir by CS Pacat - 5/5 stars
It's a CS Pacat book; it's the sequel to Dark Rise; obvs I loved it. I don't understand why this series is shelved under YA except that Pacat's publisher thinks more people will buy them. This series is the gay Lord of the Rings you always wanted and somehow is an even slower burn than Captive Prince.
Of Knights and Books and Falling in Love by Rita A Rubin - DNF at pg 50
Cover Story by Valerie Gomez - DNF at pg 176
Letters to Half Moon Street by Sarah Wallace - 4/5 stars

I think why Endhawks is so cathartic for me is that you have two people who have been through a bunch of trauma and made fucked up choices because of it and are both terrified that deep down that they aren’t worthy of love, that they’ll end up alone, that they are inherently bad.
And they are trying, trying so hard to change, to be good, to be lovable.
And they accept each other so easily. Like yes I see you. I see you trying so hard. You’re not hard to love at all. You are a good person at heart and that’s why you try so hard. I won’t flinch away at the hard, sharp edges of you because mine fit together with yours.
And it hits me right in my trauma core.
I just love them. Anyway…

Actually, since it's not going to come up anytime soon and I ended up finalising all of the kids' 'childhood' work-spaces before I finished Apollo's, allow me a moment to talk briefly about what a few of these workrooms look like.
Ares: Snakes, snakes, snakes! One expects his room to be filled with weapons and battle dummies - and those things are certainly in there! - but most of his workroom is essentially a glorified terrarium where he's able to keep track of his little snake friends like the Ismenian and Colchian Dragons. Humid, slightly misty and filled with leafy foliage, still waters and twisting branches, there's shed skin decorating his walls, fangs and skulls mounted like prized weapons, and he even had drawings of his most beloved serpent-children done on the jars and cups he keeps in his room. Hephaestus gives all his dud-weapons and over-wrought metal to Ares for him to practice as roughly as he wants with so Ares also has a lot of unorthodox looking, completely impractical weapons laying around or mounted on his walls. Jars of dragons' teeth and eagle/vulture feathers are on his shelves and he keeps some on hand in his sparring area so he can train against Sown Men when he's testing new weapons or just trying to keep sharp. He also uses the Sown Men to puzzle out formations and battle maneuvers. He has a small rest area in the warmest part of his workroom where he keeps writings about tactics and politics that both Athena and Zeus have compiled along with a few of the scarce preserved texts from Iapetus. He has a dream-charm given to him by his father that's made from Aquila's shed feathers and is meant to keep the phantoms of his battles from haunting him when he rests. Though Ares is supposed to keep it on him at all times, he treasures it too much to risk it becoming undone, so he keeps it safe here.
Hephaestus: Hot and dry one moment and then ice-cold the next, Hephaestus has one of the bigger workspaces. Not to be confused with his forges (which are massive, and at this point are only twofold - his first, more private forge on the banks of Oceanus and the second 'work' forge deep in the belly of Mount Vulcanus where he collaborates with the Cyclops) Hephaestus' workspace is half a storage spot for rare and otherwise unattainable ores, materials and stone and half a place for him to clear his head and recenter himself. It's naturally very cold in Hephaestus' workspace and the layout is labyrinthine with long sprawling hallways that are very dark and lead to wide open rooms that are borderline cavernous in their depth. Fennel torches are on every wall in even intervals and it's very easy to tell what parts of the space are and are not occupied based on which torches are lit. Just as Ares has his Sown Men, Hephaestus has his Golden Handmaidens who assist him in a lot of the busywork of getting around, especially when it comes to lighting the hallway torches or getting materials out from hard to reach areas. His favourite room is the hearth-room which is where he's stored all of Prometheus' old research and work. Considering Prometheus was his teacher, his works are all Hephaestus has left of him and there is still much Prometheus never got the chance to teach him written down in the books. There are also tons of half completed crafts and blueprints scattered about the hearth-room along with some of the assorted jewellry Hephaestus is eternally repairing on the center table for the myriad gods. There's a loom in his hearth-room since he's interested in weaving but he's terrible at it. He can straight stitch just fine though.
Athena: Definitely has the most seemingly chaotic/disorganised workspace on first glance; Athena's space is not so much big as it is tall. The walls are ever-shifting tapestries that Athena weaves from her loom and the rack of her strings travels all across the length of her workspace. She keeps track of all kinds of events this way - meetings, histories, to-do-lists - she weaves all of it and add it to her big tapestry. Along with these, her space is stacked with books, scrolls and tablets with no particular focus. She's a collector of information and she's a voracious reader, intent on learning as much as she can from the mistakes of her predecessors as possible. Just as Ares has Iapetus' old writings and Apollo has Coeus', Athena has Crius' old writings and studies. She inherited some of it naturally but most of it, especially with respect to Crius' constellation mapping and the orientation of the stars are things she requisitioned from Pallas after she conquered him. If one can make sense of all the threads and the thousand-stories sewn into the walls and the stacks and stacks of books and navigate deeper into her workspace, they'll find carefully hung and displayed fabrics and garments and a lot of stone and wood carvings. Mostly likenesses of some of the animals around Olympus like Ares' snakes or Aphrodite's doves, but there are also in-progress models of temples and buildings that she tinkers away at when she's not otherwise occupied. Even deeper into her woven walls is a little klin area where she produces custom pottery when she wants to create in secret, usually for gifts to others.

Dabihawks fairy tale fusion where they get transported into a series of random disney movies by a quirk. Instead of being the main couple in the story, they are the side characters who needs to get the main couple together in order to get out. Cue various shenanigans of our resident dumbasses trying to wingman for their lives.
Natshig in a rapunzel world where Dabi is mother gothel and Hawks is the captain of the royal guard lol.
"Oh fuck you let Shiggy get out of the tower."
"You said Natsuo was already on his way!"
"That didn't mean you should let them loose, you fucking dumbass!"
dabihawks during the lantern scene almost burning the boat they are on trying to spy on the two lovebirds and is the reason why the kiss didn't happen.
Next on the list is a fuyurumi aladdin au, with Dabi as jafar and Hawks as the genie. Dabi is very offended because how dare the quirk assume that he'd like to overthrow his father's country, the old bastard can have his crusty ass kingdom. Dabi doing the trials instead of Rumi - bc the girl was too busy thieving and simping for princess Fuyumi - and having a shouting match with genie!Hawks when he finally got to the lamp because why the fuck is this cave so complicated??? Do you want me to die??? Hawks looking at Dabi with a flat stare and saying "That's exactly the point of the traps, Dabi.". I just want them in the "A whole new world" sequence stalking the two on their own carpet and realizing that they aren't paying attention to fuyurumi anymore. They're having their own date up in the clouds, surrounded by sweet music.
The next fairy tale they went to is a Cinderella au todobaku, with Hawks as the fairy god mother and Dabi as the cat that chases the rats in the movie. The moment Hawks realizes who Dabi turned into, the hero laughs for so long that they almost missed the ball bc fairy god dumbass was too busy heckling Catbi. Dabi is very upset in that one because why is his baby brother in a shimmering blue gown while he's stuck as a furball in the very muscular and very warm arms of Hawks, getting carried around their whole time there. They didn't really need to intervene that much on that one except for stopping Bakugou from exploding Deku when he realizes the glass slipper can fit on the green haired boy. Shouto is very upset when he saw the two together and kissed Bakugou right there and then. (Izuku is terrified for his life in the background, the poor boy doesn't know what's happening.)
When they thought they were about to go home, imagine their surprise when they get transported into another world but with themselves as the main character. Cue The Little Mermaid au but with dabihawks. Haha imagine if Prince Eric was a completely different person, probably Chisaki, and Dabi turning back around when he saw the dude drowning. He doesn't care if he gets stuck in this world forever, he's not about to save the creep (hell would freeze over before he kisses the man.). So what if he was expecting to perform cpr on Hawks, no one would know how disappointed he is that he didn't get to save the hero. Pirate captain!Hawks seeing Dabi sulking on one of the stones and immediately recognizing him just from the eyes alone. They spend the rest of the day on the seas together and had a kiss by nightfall with Rumi and the crew singing "kiss the boy" in the background.
They wake up back in canonverse, now with new realizations and information on one another, yet not giving a fuck and continuing making out because they already had a taste of it once, the both of them can never let go of the other now.

Hawk SnowWhite 🪞
Hawk is one of the most handsome, strong, and bravest princes at Regal Academy, and he knows it. When he's not practicing his swordsmanship or stopping girls frozen in their tracks with his smile, he loves to bake with, what else, apples, in the kitchens, something he inherited from his grandmother, Snow White.
While Hawk is brave, he is also hot headed, which leads his team into danger more often than not. He was raised with stories of brave knights and damsels in distress filling his head and that fueled his desire to become the perfect prince.
