Since you arrived at the station this morning, Ormewood has been tapping his pencil against his desk. You haven’t said anything about it because it’s a reminder to focus on your case. Ormewood laughs, then rephrases to say, “You tell him it’s not me, it’s you.”
You hum, but then your eyes snap open. “Say that again.”
“It’s not me, it’s you?”
“What am I interrupting?” Faith asks, stopping behind you.
“Didn’t somebody just get cut from the Braves?”
“Uh, excuse me?” Faith tries again.
“In a minute!” Ormewood snaps, leaning toward you. “Yeah. He was training to be a pitcher. Had the potential to be a star pitcher, take us to the world championship.”
“What happened?”
“They had evidence he bought drugs. Swore he wasn’t using, and all of his drug tests came back clean.”
“It’s not me… it's you,” you say under your breath.
“Where’s Will?” Faith inquires.
“Faith,” Ormewood answers, shaking his head as he answers, “no one here cares. We’re not keeping up with your partner.”
“I got it!” you cheer, knocking your chair back as you stand.
“Will. Trent. So-tall, rambles, anybody seen him?” Faith says. “It’s like talking to children.”
“I’ll go with you,” Ormewood offers, trailing behind you as you rush toward the elevators.
Faith watches, tipping her head as she wonders, “Or is it more like puppy dogs?”

“Okay, so Truist Park is at the 75/285 interchange,” you explain. “You can get on either interstate and get anywhere in Atlanta without being noticed. But Dobbins Air Reserve Base is just a few miles up 41 from the stadium.”
“Right,” Ormewood agrees. “But what’s the connection of those locations to the missing girls?”
“These girls were from Atlanta’s nicest neighborhoods. Areas where our city officials sit on the HOA board, or whatever rich people do in fancy neighborhoods. Take a few residents, get the attention of all of the powerful people in the city…”

“Right, at least in criminal logic. So, this pitcher gets cut on a technicality and decides to show Atlanta what they’re losing, maybe try to blackmail his way back onto the team.”
“Or?”
“Or someone else is trying to get him back on the team. He’s got a cousin, according to his Braves profile, that works at Robbins. The proximity makes me think he’s holding these girls on the base. Granted, I could be way off, and it has nothing to do with a baseball team.”
“Worth a shot. I’ll find your guy, and you look for a hiding place fit for teenage girls?”
“Sounds good.” You look over the top of the car as you climb out and say, “Be careful.”

You answer your phone as you follow a uniformed MP officer through the base to check the lowest security areas of the base.

“Thanks. I’ll be right over.”
After the MP officer agrees to finish the search and call your watch commander if he finds anything, you walk across the base and find Ormewood with one arm stretched out and his hand pressed lazily against your suspect.
“Trevor?” you ask the man. “I’m a detective with the APD. I have a few questions for you.”
“I want a lawyer,” he answers.
Ormewood scoffs, and you shake your head at him.
“Are you sure you can’t just answer a couple quick questions?” you ask. “It’ll only take a minute.”
“There are five missing girls out there,” Ormewood seethes, wrapping Trevor’s shirt around his hand. “Think very carefully about how you answer.”
“Lawyer!”
Ormewood steps closer to the man, but you wrap your hand around his wrist and shake your head.
“Alright. Trevor, I’m placing you under arrest for reasonable suspicion of abduction,” you begin, placing handcuffs on him. “You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney, which you’ve already exercised, so we can’t ask you any more questions.”
“We just think about how guilty that makes you look,” Ormewood adds as he pushes your suspect into the backseat of the car.
“Officers!” the MP officer yells behind you. “I found something!”
“No, he didn’t!” Trevor yells against the window. “You didn’t find anything, man! Say psych!”
“Psych is not admissible in court,” you point out. “Lead the way, officer.”

“How?” Will questions, clearly surprised by the outcome.
“Not all cases are solved on pure luck or weirdly timed flashbacks, Trent.”
“The whole thing screamed leverage,” you explain with a shrug. “I just had to find someone who needed the rich and powerful on his side. Someone desperate enough to stage numerous abductions to do it.”
“Well, now there really is nothing to do here. Have either of you seen Faith?”
Will stands from your seat as Ormewood suggests, “Maybe try calling each other.”
“Thanks for all of your help today,” you tell Ormewood once you’re alone again. He nods, and you ask, “Why’d you get rough with Trevor?”
“If it was my daughter, I’d want to know exactly where she was as soon as possible. He was going to keep stalling, and a public defender would have loved using his situation to delay until it was too late to save them.”
“Can you tap your pencil again?”
“What?” Ormewood asks, shock and confusion evident in the single syllable.
“It… I like knowing that you’re here, close, okay.”
Ormewood nods slowly, then begins tapping his eraser against his desk. You shift your focus to the paperwork for the case, but Ormewood watches you. Something about his presence seems to help you, provide a comfort that he hadn’t even noticed. More surprising, he thinks, is that he likes knowing how his presence makes you feel.
“Is it just my tapping?” he asks. He seems as surprised to hear the question as you.
“If it is?” you counter. “Will you move to a different desk?”
“I was thinking we find out if sharing a table only works at the station.”
“Are you asking me out?” you clarify.
“I didn’t anticipate the interrogation it would take to get an answer, but yes.”
You smile and tap your pen against your hand with Ormewood’s beat as you answer, “I’d love to.”

Amelie sits in between Sam and Tara as they look down at the photos on the table. Gory pictures of the crime scene with the bodies of Jason and Greg and the bloody picture of Sam’s license on the floor. The three girls haven’t made a noise since they were put into the investigation room, all too exhausted and drained from the attack that just took place. Amelie sits in her clothes that have started to become sticky with blood and feels like throwing up. She wasn’t able to throw her clothes away just yet since they have literal human blood on them and because she doesn’t have a spare with her. They also needed to take a photo of her clothes for evidence. She just couldn’t wait until she could go home, strip off her clothes and scrub the blood off her skin until a new layer is revealed. They let her wash up her hands and arms, at least, so there wasn’t any blood or glass stuck on her hands.
Soon enough Detective Bailey comes into the room and closes the door behind him. In his hand lays an evidence bag with a Ghostface mask where he lets the girls know that it was found next to the bodies at the apartment crime scene. “DNA says that it belongs to somebody named Richie Kirisch. Does it ring a bell?”
“We’re familiar with him,” Sam replies. She stares at the mask before looking away. All too familiar with him, actually. 
“The one that attacked us had a different mask on,” Tara noticed when she saw the mask in the bag. The detective looks confused at this. “It was kind of more beat up, like it was older.”
“Ah, I gotta ask, do you have alibis for earlier tonight?” Detective Bailey jumps into his next set of questions. So, one by one the three girls state where they were at.
“I was at a party with my friends,” says Tara.
“I was also at said party with our friends,” Amelie says next.
“I was at my therapists. I can give you his information, you can call to check if you want,” Sam says last. “And then I met these two at that party. Where I tased someone.”
Detective Bailey looks concerned. Interesting piece of information to tell the police, Amelie thinks, but at least she was being honest.
“Unrelated,” Sam quips, moving past it.
“Before or after this happened?” Bailey pulls his phone out to show the girls a video taken of Sam pushing the girl who threw a drink on her. Whoever took the video made it look like worse than it was, Sam was provoked, of course she was going to fight back.
“Before,” Sam looks away from the phone and speaks.
“Point is, we were with people all night,” Tara butts in.
After a brief moment of silence, something else seemed to peek Sam’s interest in this whole thing. “So, our roommates dad just happened to pull our case.”
“That had to be a crazy coincidence, right?” Detective Bailey peers back to Sam where he sees her nod. “The detective who had the case offered to give it to me because it involves Quinn, but I can totally give it back if you’re uncomfortable. Up to you.”
Sam looks beside her at Amelie who turns to Sam. She shrugs her shoulders in response, maybe it was better to have him on the case. They live with his daughter anyways, so they have to be safe, right? Sam shakes her head and lets the detective know it’s fine but she still looks suspicious.
“So, if the man who attacked you did steal your license and plant it next to the body, then that will probably be someone close to you,” The detective states as he begins his next round of questions. “How long have you known your friends?”
“Well, we moved here with Mindy and Chad for summer semester like six months ago. So, Quinn, Ethan, Anika is all,” Tara decides to speak up since Sam has done the majority of it their time here.
“Well, I think I can vouch for Quinn so that’s one less we have to worry about,” At that, Tara turns to look at Amelie beside her and they share a quick look. They trust Quinn, sure, but they he was quick to cover his daughter. “Do any of you have anyone who might want to target you?”
“Not anyone who’s still alive,” Amelie finally speaks up for the second time since entering the room.
His eyes widen before saying “Yikes.”
The door then opens, and an officer lets Bailey know that the FBI is here, and his jurisdiction is needed. As soon he steps out of the room all the girls let out a breath of air. Sam looks to Amelie who sits beside her, “You okay?”
It feels like everyone around her is asking if she’s okay so often recently. “Yeah, I just need to get out of these clothes”
“Don’t worry, we are getting the hell out of here now” Sam says out of relief as she stands up.
Soon enough the three girls are getting walked out by an officer before Sam looks into the room they are passing where Detective Bailey is and sees a face she recognizes “Kirby?”
“Hey, Sam,” Kirby looks up and sees Sam. Kirby gives Sam a hug and puts her hand on Tara and Amelie’s shoulder to acknowledge them. “You’ve grown, Amelie.”
“You’re the FBI?” Sam looks at Kirby quizzically, the last time she saw her she was a student in high school and was a part of the recent attacks by Ghostface. Amelie recognizes her briefly from all those years ago. That attack was the first time she ever saw Ghostface and was when it all began for her. She was only a child, and her dad did his absolute best to shield her from what was happening, but she remembers his fear of it coming back. She also recalls that Kirby was one of the last survivors from that attack.
“You know each other?” Detective Bailey asks when he sees the small reunion.
“Yeah, we went to Woodsboro high together. She was a senior when I was a freshman.”
“We share a certain history, yeah.”
Kirby then talks to the detective about her file on the case and offers to share. Amelie zones it out, she didn’t care that much, and she just wanted to leave. She was tired and none of them have had a blink of sleep all night from all the back-to-back action that these past 24 hours has packed in. Amelie starts to concentrate in on the conversation when she sees a new evidence bag placed in the detective’s hands, the mask left from the bodega.
“DNA traces to two individuals; Charlie Walker and Jill Roberts, both deceased,” The detective reads the writing on the bag out loud to the group of girls. Amelie looks at Kirby and she sees the distant glaze covering her eyes.
“Ghostface killers of 2011. Charlie Walker gave me this,” Kirby lifts her shirt up and shows her scar that rested on her side. “Like I said, I take a special interest. Was this the mask he was wearing when he attacked you?”
“No,” Tara shakes her head at the question.
“So, he’s leaving them on purpose,” Detective Bailey gathers.
“Which means whoever is doing this is a student of the killers who came before. Maybe he believes Sam is the latest in a long line,” Kirby suggests, looking at Sam. Though Sam looks like she wants nothing to do with it.
“Yeah, goodluck with that. We’re getting out of town,” Sam grabs both Amelie’s and Tara’s shoulders as she turns them around to start walking out of the station. Their moves halt when Detective Bailey lets them know they can’t. “I’m sorry that’s not possible. You’re all persons of interest in a double homicide, so you’re not allowed to leave town, sorry.”
“He’s right, but if we work together-“ Kirby tries again, thinking that maybe if she offers to help Sam and the girls then it would will them to stay.
“We’re going,” Sam says pointedly. Her decision was already made, and Sam was not going to involve herself, and especially not Tara and Amelie, in a direct investigation to find out who the killer is this time. She has built up so much paranoia over the last year and clearly, it was worthy.
The girls push through the doors of the police station to be greeted by a swarm of people with microphones and cameras, all yelling out different questions for the girls to answer. Sam walks behind the girls and pushes at both their shoulders to shove past the people and ignore their questions. They were not going to get a word, nor a reaction from the three and Sam was going to make sure of it. As they manage to push through the crowd and walk towards their Taxi waiting for them on the side of the road, they hear a voice quip up. Gale.
“Gale Weathers, Channel four. Do you ladies think you’re the reason the Ghostface killer has come to the big apple?”
Amelie’s eyes widen when she sees Sam swing and Gale ducks. “Nice try sweetie, but I’ve done this dance before.”
Tara sees her opportunity and lands a punch on Gale. “Stay away from us.”
Sam grabs Amelie’s hand to keep her walking with them instead of turning back to go with Gale. She knows the woman means a lot to Amelie and vice versa, but she also knows that Gale is conniving and is trying to worm her way into the situation again.
“Are you really still mad at me?” Gale recovers quickly from the punch and chases after the girls. Guess after all that practice, she’s learned how to recover fast.
“You said you weren’t going to write a book about what happened, and then you wrote a book about what happened.” Sam says angrily to Gale.
“Oh, come on, somebody was gonna to write about it. That’s what I do,” Gale replies, trying to reason with the angry sister. 
“I heard you couldn’t sell the movie rights,” Tara questions, looking at Gale with a curious, but sarcastic, look on her face.
“It’s-it’s all about true crime limited series these days,” Gale attempts to defend herself. Yeah, her attempt to have movie rights didn’t go as she planned but she was not about let the girls know it got to her.
“It-it's just that after everything we went through together, Gale, everything you and my dad went through-“ Amelie finally speaks up. She understands where the sister’s frustration was coming from, she felt it back when she first read the book. She was also incredibly tired and heavy from the blood on her clothes, making her all the more irritable. “-what would Dewey think?”
Gale stares at Amelie in shock and pain flashes across her eyes. She looks as if she just got stabbed, not expecting that from Amelie of all people. “That was a low blow.”
“So was your book. You called me unstable and born killer.” Sam spikes back to Gale. She really wishes she could have landed that punch on Gale because her frustration is peaking again.
“That was taken out of context.”
“That’s literally a quote.”
“You don’t think what you wrote has something to do with what is happening to us?” Tara asks Gale and shakes her head.
“Come on,” Sam says, and the three make their way to a taxi. Right before they began to step into the car, Gale called out which halted their movements.
“Hey, I talked to Sidney.”
“She’s not coming here, is she?” Sam asks with concern. She can’t have Sidney come back here and go through this all again for the sixth time. This was her battle, her fight.
“No, she sends her love but she’s taking Mark and the kids some place safe. She deserves to have her happy ending,” Gale responds which sends a wave of relief in the younger girls in front of Gale.
“Then that much we agree,” Sam says before she ushers Amelie into the taxi and her following.
“Wait! Mel!” Gale calls and Amelie looks at her from inside the taxi. Mel was a nickname given to Amelie by Gale and only she was reserved to call her that. When she was a really young girl and her dad married Gale, the older women cared for her like she was her own. This included giving her a nickname that only Gale called her, and Amelie cherished the name so much. “I tried calling you, earlier.”
“Yeah, I know,” she says, nodding her head. “I-I wanted to answer but-“
“-but I declined it for her,” Sam interrupts her. She was done talking to Gale and needed them to leave, now. Maybe she might get the chance to take that swing at Gale after all.
“Hey! I want to catch this fucker as much as you do,” Gales calls out one more time as Sam follows Amelie into the back of the taxi. With just Tara left to get in she finishes the conversation.
“Maybe. Or maybe you’re just afraid that without Ghostface in your life, you’re gonna fade away.”

Back at the apartment, Quinn received a text from her dad and let the group know that there was another Ghostface attack at the bodega and the three girls were there. She let the group know that they got taken to the station for questioning and should be on their way home soon. Amelie also sent Ethan a quick text letting him briefly know they had a run in with the killer and were on their way. She did promise to call him if they had any trouble and while she didn’t get the chance to do that, she figured a brief text would have to suffice for that. The rest of the friends stayed at their apartment, worried about the girls as they were out. After hearing from Quinn everything that happened, they decided to stay until they come back to make sure they were okay and because they wanted to show their support. Amelie, Tara, and Sam are their best friends, their family, and they will do what they need to make sure they are okay.
So, when the front door of the apartment opens and in walks three sweaty girls with one who also has blood covering her pants and some of her shirt, the friends rise from their seats and rushes to them.
Mindy gasps when she sees Amelie and rushes to her side. “Oh my god, Amie, are you okay?”
Ethan perks up even more after hearing Mindy and looks at Amelie. He sees the distant look in her eyes and heads to stand next to her as well. The group, with looks of concern, wait patiently for any one of the girls to start speaking so that’s what Sam does. She explains everything that happened from leaving the apartment down to getting into the taxi.
Amelie can feel the eyes on her, she does have blood stains on her covering her, so it is within reason, and she probably reeks of iron. “We were running out of the bodega, and I slipped on some guy’s blood and fell in it. It’s not mine, don’t worry.”
Mindy from beside her holds Amelie’s arm as she tries to take her shoes off, that also have blood covering them. Guess those will also have to go, she thinks. Amelie continues to speak as she kicks the shoes off her feet, “I just need to get these clothes off of me and take a shower.”
Ethan stares at the red stains on her and feels angry again. Though he is relieved that the blood is not hers, he knows that it could have been her blood and it could have been her body they were picking up onto a gurney and placing in a bag.
“Well, we’re glad you guys are okay,” Anika says as she walks with Amelie and Mindy to her room.
“Yeah, me too,” Amelie says with a grateful smile that didn’t reach her eyes. She almost felt as if the blood was hers and she was stabbed all over again by the amount of attention she was getting from this. She was grateful her friends care so much, but it was almost too overwhelming. Mindy and Anika leave the room to let Amelie get changed and take a shower where she is left by herself and her thoughts. As she peels the first layer of her clothes off a knock comes from door, and she rolls her eyes. God, she just wants to be left alone after everything. She stalks to her door in only her tank top and pants now and opens the door to reveal Ethan who looks concerned.
“What’s up?” She stays at the entry and holds the doorknob.
“I’m sorry if I am bothering you, I just wanted to make sure you’re doing okay,” Ethan says nervously. He looks down to see if she is still wearing the clothes and she is, just less than before. Her tank top has some blood stains which must have leaked through from the long sleeve she was previously wearing. Blush rises to his cheeks, realizing he just subtly checked her out before looking back into her eyes where she appears tired and sunken in, though there is a hint of amusement laced in her expression.
“I am doing okay, Ethan. I was just about to take a shower, anyways,” She replies and nudges her head to the bathroom across the hall from her room.
“Oh okay, yeah, I guess you should do that,” Ethan nods his head before his expression changes, and he furrows his eyebrows. “Wait-wait, not that you need to or anything, it’s just because you have blood on you and stuff and you probably just want to get clean from everything, sorry.”
Amelie manages to let out a chuckle and shakes her head at him. “I know what you meant, don’t worry.”
She looks at him and thinks about everything that has happened this past night. She has been wanting to be alone this whole time to just be able to lay down and clean up but maybe being with someone won’t be as bad tonight as she thought. Because as she looks at him now, she can see that he cares and that he wants to be there for her. All this time she has refused her feelings down for him because she was so scared of what may happen if she acted upon it. She has a pretty good feeling that he also likes her the same way she does him, maybe even more, so she makes up her mind. She is so tired of feeling scared all the time and if she’s going to be fearful, then it’s going to be something worth being scared about and not about some boy. Time seems to run too fast in her world and she has learned that the hard way.
“Uhm, would you want to, maybe, stay? For a bit? I-I will go get clean and stuff, but you can just chill here, and we can hang out after I’m done? If you’re not busy, of course,” Amelie looks at him nervously now as she proposes the idea to him. Please say yes and make me not look like a total fool.
“Yeah, of course.” Ethan looks shocked that she asked and nods his head rapidly. He clears his throat, "I would give you a hug, but uh, I am not too keen on swapping blood."
“I will be right back, then you can give me a hug. Free of blood transfers,” Amelie smiles and lets him into her room before exiting to the bathroom. Ethan takes a seat on her desk chair, not wanting to sit on her bed without his permission and smiles to himself. All the anger he felt earlier has evaporated from his body and nothing but excitement and joy has replaced it. Something about her asking him to stay with her just makes his tummy feel funny and makes him think that waiting all this time to let her get close to him was worth it. He knows that they have hung out along countless times before, but something about it feels different.
Ethan sends a quick text to Chad to just let him know that he was staying with Amelie for the next couple of hours, to which Chad replies with a finally man! Guess you did listen and make a move, get it roomie :) and then followed it with but pls take care of her though, she could probably use it.
Soon enough Amelie enters the room again with wet hair and clothed in some shorts and a large pyjama shirt. Ethan looks up quickly at the girl and puts the picture frame he had in his hand back on her desk.
“I-I’m sorry, I wasn’t snooping or anything, it was just there,” Ethan says nervously as he looks at her anxiously. He recognized her dad, of course he did, he was one of the legacy survivors of the original Ghostface attacks. So, he looked at the photo to see her smile so wide, he didn’t know she had the capability of doing so. He wonders if he could have ever had the same relationship with his dad as she did with Dewey and he feels jealous, almost, that even with everything that was currently planned with his family, he would never get that same amount of love. Guilt also begins to eat away at his stomach as he thinks of his family’s plans, knowing that they are the same plans that took away the person she cared about the most. But he also knows how it feels to lose a family member. Though, the circumstances are very different, and while he seeks revenge, she looks for comfort. While anger is ridden in both the young adults, the two use it to their advantage in very different ways.
Amelie notices his panicky actions and walks towards him where she grabs his hands to pull him up from her desk chair and wraps her arounds around his torso, finally getting that hug. Ethan is quick to wrap his arms around her and hold her tight. Amelie closes her eyes and places her head on his chest, listening to his heart and the silence of her room. Ethan smiles at her action and rests his cheek on the top of her head. They don't hug often, Amelie is not one to be very touchy with her friends, but any time that it has happened, it feels so nice. Her height was perfect to place directly on his chest, near his neck and his large frame was so comforting as it wraps around her. The two feel so content being engulfed in each others presence. Not only did Amelie need this hug after everything that has happened over the past night, but hugging Ethan just felt so normal.
Although Amelie nor Ethan want to pull away, Amelie does so she can finally put some ointment on her throbbing palms. She picks the frame back up from the desk and then heads to sit on the edge of her bed. Looking back at her was an old photo of her dad and her. She remembers the day the photo was taken; it was a couple of months before the attacks last year when they went to go visit Sidney for the weekend. She had to practically force him to snap the photo with her, but she was glad she did. He smiles down at her while she stares at the camera with a smile almost as bright as the sun. Amelie smiles now as she looks at the photo and traces her finger along the side of the frame.
Ethan makes his way to her and takes a seat on the side of the bed with her. It felt so wrong to be messing with her like this, but he had to keep it up. “That’s your dad, right?”
“Yeah,” Ethan watches her nod and his heart seizes when he sees the pain in her eyes. “He was the best.”
Amelie reaches over by her bedside table and places the photo down on it before picking up a small tube of cream. She needed to stop looking at the picture for too long or else tonight would become another one of the countless nights where she would sob as she held something of her dads to sleep. Ethan can tell that she probably wanted to continue talking about her dad but still found it difficult to.
Amelie opens up the ointment and begins to attempt to put some cream on her palms to help prevent an infection from all the cuts the glass caused and winces. She sees Ethan staring at her hands out of the corner fo her eye. “We had to crawl and there was shattered glass everywhere. Some of it just cut through my hand. Not bad enough for stitches, thankfully.”
Ethan listens to her and pictures her at the bodega, scared with blood on her hands. He hates that, although he didn’t do it himself, he is part of the reason that it happened. He glances down again at her hands, raw and cut, “I can help if you want. It may be a bit easier for you if you’re not doing it.”
Amelie looks at him and passes over the cream. She faces her palms up and pushes them closer to him.
“I’m sorry if I hurt you,” Ethan mutters as he begins to lightly spread of the ointment over her palm. Even though her palms are cut, her hands are soft, and he wishes he could hold them all day long. This was the closest he has ever been to her and he is shitting himself. He can feel the heat of her body and smell the scent of her conditioner, itching to get closer but he knows he should just focus on getting her hands all cleaned up.
“You couldn’t,” Amelie all but whispers bravely as she looks up at him through her eyelashes. He was so pretty, and she was really realizing it now in this moment. His brown eyes so soft and lips so full. His curly hair looks so soft, Amelie almost wants to touch it and wrap a curl around her finger. The pad of his finger runs over one of the deeper cuts and she winces, then chuckles, “Maybe you could.”
Ethan looks up at her finally and gives her a smile. She is so close to him that all he had to do was lean forward and their lips could be attached. He briefly closes his eyes to rid himself of his thoughts, so he doesn’t get ahead of himself and re-opens then. He licks his lips before whispering, “Tell me about your dad.”
She looks at him with furrowed eyebrows. Whatever she was thinking that he was going to say next, that was not it. But, although she was a little shocked he wanted her to talk about her dead dad and that he was so willing to listen, she also wouldn’t pass up a chance to talk so greatly about him. “Uh, well, he was a cop for a long time before he decided to retire just before he died.
He had a sister, my aunt Tatum, who I never got to meet, but he always talked about her so highly and I could tell that he loved her a lot. Which is where i got my middle name; Amelie Tatum Riley. I only ever lived with him and rarely saw my mom because she was apparently always too busy, but I think my dad just said that so it would hurt my feelings a little less. He also was my best friend, and I would talk to him about everything. He would teach me how to defend myself since I was little, in case I ever needed to, which I guess came in handy, huh? But he would also tell me after every session or lesson that I shouldn’t need to worry too much about using my skills because he would be there to protect me from harm no matter where he was.”
Ethan looks at her intently as he also switches hands to start applying the cream onto her other palm. She has a faint smile lingering on her lips as she talks about Dewey and Ethan can’t help but be captivated by her as she speaks so fondly about the man that raised her.
“He would always show up to any recital or performance I had as a child because he swore he was always my number one fan. And at least once a week he would try to find time so we could go out to eat at this dinner back in Woodsboro,” Amelie takes a pause and lets out a breathy laugh. “He was also still into Gale, one hundred percent but he just would never admit it to me. I am sure he knew that I knew, though. I think that sometimes he wishes that he could have ended up with Gale and that she was my mom, but he didn’t really like to talk about it too much.”
Ethan finishes up and closes the tube of cream before handing it back to Amelie. Amelie takes one more pause from her speech about her father before finishing up, deciding to end it soon or she may feel inclined to start crying and she was absolutely not going to be doing that in front of Ethan. “He was just the best dad, and I wish I could have had more time with him.”  
“He sounds like an amazing father. You were really lucky,” Ethan smiles at her, but that bitter feeling arises again. She did have a great dad and he would give just about anything to experience that same fatherly love she did with his own dad, but he guesses that he is, just in a completely different way. “And I’m sorry for, you know, your loss.”
“Yeah, he was,” She nods as she looks down at her now ointment treated hands. “And thank you. For asking me and listening and-” she holds her hands up briefly “-for this.”
She smiles in appreciation and puts the cream down on her side table. As she reaches over, her hair falls past her shoulder and down her back where her scar becomes visible to Ethan’s eye. Almost as if she can feel the tissue exposed, she takes her hair and places it back over her shoulder, ashamed of the mark.
She leans back over from her side table and sits back a bit further onto her bed to lean against the wall. Ethan scoots back towards her but doesn’t lean up against the wall just yet. Instead, he decides to fuck it and brushes her hair from off her shoulder to expose the scar once more. Maybe it was sick and twisted that he wanted to see it, see what his dead brother’s girlfriend did to her but he had to take a look. So, he did, and she let him.
Her breathe hitched in her throat as his fingers delicately traced over the line just above her collarbone, on the base of her neck. If she was going to let him in, then she might as well keep breaking more of her boundaries tonight.
“I got it last year from the last Ghostface attacks,” She whispers and looks straight ahead at her at the picture collage wall. One’s of her and her current roommates, some with Chad and Mindy, Wes, and the very few with Liv. Some with her dad and other group photos where she cut Amber’s figure out of them.
“Yeah, I-I figured,” Ethan whispers back. Although he obviously knew where she got it from, he played it off as just knowing from hearing it around. He feels sick again thinking about the fact that she got hurt from all of this and he vows to make sure she doesn’t get hurt the same way again, not on purpose or by the hands of his family.  
“I also have a couple more but this-“ She gestures to her neck “-is the most visible, obviously.”
Ethan continues to trace the mark back and forth before looking at Amelie’s face to see how she is reacting. He is so screwed, and his dad is going to kill him for getting so invested in a girl, Dewey’s daughter nonetheless, but he just can’t help it. He knows how easily it would be for him to wrap his hands around her neck and kill her, one less person to get rid of for his dad and brother but he can’t do it and he just won’t. He feels the urge to protect her and wants to keep her safe from this whole plan, safe from getting hurt again.
Amelie looks at Ethan, feeling his eyes on her and they stare at one another. Ethan feels his heart leap and is wondering if this is what it’s like to actually be with someone you like. He has never been this close to a girl before so he’s wondering if the nerves is from his lack of experience or because he is finally getting his moment with the girl he has been crushing on for months now.
“Amelie-” Ethan pauses his movement on her scar and says her name.
“Amie,” Amelie cuts him off. “You can call me Amie. You always call me Amelie, but you can call me Amie.”
“Alright, Amie,” Ethan smiles and lets out a laugh. "I don't really know why, I guess everyone just calls you Amie, huh?"
Amelie smiles as he continues to move his fingers so delicately across the pink tissue. "You know...
I don't think you have to be so scared about hiding it so much. It's beautiful, in a way. You're a survivor."
"I just, I don't know..." Amelie pauses and swallows. She can feel her stomach turn inside out and she is almost tempted to tell him to stop so she can ensure she wouldn't throw up. And the way Ethan is touching her so gently, and looking at her so soft, she just might. "...am ashamed of it. It's gross, and people just stare when they see it. Especially when they know who was the one that did it to me."
"Well, people are stupid," Ethan smiles at her. The tension building between the two makes him want to scream out, tell her how beautiful she is, and kiss her face. But, he has never done that before and there is always this impending fear that she will never see him in that light. "And a scar means shit. People don't know a thing, but you do."
"And not that my word really matters, but uh," Ethan continues on and swallows any of his nerves. So very uncharacteristic of him, he tilts his head and leans towards her neck, delicately placing a small kiss on the scar. "It is nothing to be ashamed of, you're beautiful."
Amelie's heart picks up and she is surprised that Ethan can't hear it pound out of her chest. She almost can't breathe, the tension is too unbearable, and she just wants him to lift his head so he can kiss her instead.
In the back of her mind, she can hear screaming voice call to her, telling her to be careful and maybe not trust Ethan so easily, the same voice she heard back at the party with Dean. He seems to be too gentle with her to be a killer in disguise. Then again, so was Richie and Billy and Stu and Charlie. But it feels so right being here this close to him, feels so good to be held by his soft hands. Being this close to Ethan is exactly what she was picturing in her head when her lips were attached to Dean's, and now it is almost happening. So, once again, she decides to screw what her head is screaming at her and leans in closer to Ethan, giving him the hint to lift his head from her scar. He takes it and raises his head, now unbelievably close to the girls face. He can smell her coconut conditioner and the mint from her toothpaste, and is craving to taste her.
"You're not with that guy, right?" Ethan whispers, his breathe hitting Amelie's face and its intoxicating. "The one from the party."
Amelie looks in his eyes, her lids are heavy and vision glazed. She shakes her head lightly, "no."
"You know..." Amelie licks her bottom lip, it catching Ethan's eye and his breathe hilts in his throat.
"I was thinking of you when I was with him."
Ethan nearly lets out a groan. She was trying to kill him, he was sure of it.
Ethan brings one hand up, brushing a piece of fallen hair behind her ear and rests his hand there. Hearing those words did something to him, and he knew he needed to feel her lips on his this very moment. Knowing that she felt the same way as him made him more than relieved, especially knowing that he was on her mind when she had her lips on another boy. A small smirk raises on his lips. "Good."
She knows she should listen to the voice and be weary, fear who Ethan might be but in this moment she doesn’t care. So, she looks in his eyes one more time to see if there lays any hesitation or discomfort, and when she finds nothing but want and adoration, she leans in and finally lets their lips touch.
Ethan can feel how soft her lips are and never wants to pull away. He has been craving this since he first laid eyes on her, and now it is finally happening. He lets out a sigh of relief, his hand on her hip tightening to restrain the urge and desire in his body. Their lips together, touching one another felt so right, and they wonder why they haven't done that sooner. Their kiss lasts for all of three seconds before Amelie's door cracks open.
“Hey Amie, I brought you some tea-“ Quinn opens her bedroom door and begins before her eyes widen at the sight of the two teens in front of her. Amelie and Ethan jump apart at the sound of the redhead’s voice and Amelie scoots up the edge of her bed and away from the wall she was leaning on. She clears her throat and looks at Quinn with stern eyes before running her hands across her face. “I am so sorry, I-I didn’t know anyone else was here with you, Amie.”
“No, it-it’s okay, Quinn. Maybe knock next time, yeah? I don’t know just an idea,” Amelie shrugs and says sarcastically before standing up and making her way to stand in front of Quinn. The older girl looks at Amelie and mouths an I’m so sorry while handing her the cup of tea in her hand. Amelie looks back and sees Ethan stand up from her bed and pull down at the hem of his shirt.
“That is the second roommate I have done that to within the last day, I am such a cockblock. I’m so sorry,” Quinn says shaking her head as she takes the handle of the door and begins to back out of the room. “I made you the tea to, you know, maybe make you feel better after everything. I-sorry, I’m just gonna-“
Quinn points to behind her where she will be making her exit. As Amelie goes to place the cup of tea on her bedside table beside the ointment and picture frame, Quinn sneaks a glare at her brother and shakes her head, quick enough for Amelie not to see but for Ethan to catch. His heart jumps in his throat but he swallows it back down as he glares back at her. He knows she will be having a word with him about all of his later and that his dad will find out and he is screwed, once again. But fuck, it practically happened, and he has never felt so alive then he was in that moment. He had pictured the moment he could kiss Amelie for so long and it just happened, until it didn’t. So, Amelie turns to look at him and smiles sheepishly while Ethan looks at her and bites his lip to contain his smile. Ethan stays with her for the next couple of hours where he lays with her in her bed as she attempts get some rest. And though he held her as she slept, that almost kiss is the closest exchange the two have for the rest of the night. Because although their moment got interrupted, it was there. And as much as the two would like to go back in time and continue what almost happened, they at least both knew that their feelings were reciprocated and their hearts beat, almost at the same time.

Description:
You work alongside Matt and Foggy at the law firm. Of course as one of the most successful lawyer in the city the one and only Tony Stark would recruit you. As you are trying to find a meaning of your life you find life in someone. It’s may be a rocky start for you two but maybe it’s worth taking.
Chapter 2:
“Goodmorning, How can I assist you this morning?” The young lady at the front desk asked me.
“Hello, I am here to see Agent Penelope Garcia” I check my phone and verify if she has responded but nothing.
“Am sorry I don’t recognize that name”
“Of course. She and her team are here on the doppler case” Come on.
“Oh yes.” Thank god. “Let me lead you to the office she is using. I nod following right behind her. Once we arrive I give her thanks and she lets me walk in alone.
“Why haven’t you responded to any of my messages?” I can’t help but smile as her usually bubbly self engulfs me into a hug.
“Im sorry, I just wanted to get these papers filled out so I can have enough time to shop around before leaving tonight”
“Well new york is surely the place to walk around and shop”
“Sure is, so what's up” I take a seat next to her. She always made every place she was in hers, no matter how long she was in them. She was the one to bring the cases into a new level with a sense of emotion. We met here about 2 years ago when they requested my help. One of their agents was in trouble and needed to get his case resolved. He was being wrongly accused and working alognside her the most was the best. Since then we have kept in touch.
“My client was found dead last night from an apparent suicide, and my partner and I know that was not the case. He left a note behind and photos of the scene were taken.” one of the things I hate doing is asking for things, more when they haven’t asked anything of me.
“They took you off the case and they are just treating it as a soon to be closed one since he probably admitted guilt in the note” She surely is a smart bee.
“Yes. So my question is if you could..” Why does asking for help have my heart beating faster and wanting to punch myself?
“Get you the pictures? Sure. Give me a couple seconds” I let out a short laugh seeing her move her fingers magically over her keyboard. “I will send them to you using an encrypted address, so no one knows it was sent to you and no one can take them off your phone” After a short conversation I bid her goodbye. I was so lucky she was in town. I drove back into the office and straight into Matt’s.
“Hey got the pictures, did you get the videos?” I see him shake his head but move a file towards me. I open them up and see death certificates.
“There is no video eveidence in or around his home and the officers are of no help, but they did mention that” I see him point at the papers again. All in alphabetical order, all the suspects' death certificates. All killed one day during the week prior to Miller’s death. “Foggy spend his morning looking them up and even confirmed it with the families”
“Why would they kill Miller and the suspect in question? Eitheir we never got the right guy in our suspect list or they don’t care who they kill, loved one or not '' I throw the papers to the desk. It's like if I was driving down a road and had three ways to go. One was the easy way, just a straight paved road. The other one was a road that would take me days to drive. I would have to take a car, then a boat, a plane and finally walk on foot to reach. The third one I could see the destination but the bridge had just broken. The train broke. Everything is falling piece by piece. What was supposed to be our advantage and a step ahead brought us closer to nothing, nothing. Anyways, that just confused me more. I get up, popping open my phone. “I got the pictures of the letter and you are right it was definitely not a suicide note”
We spent the whole afternoon trying to figure anything out. Any connection to the Miller to the suspects or any of them to the 3 guys mudered and finally we got a lead. One of the suspects had the same marking left on the note and the three guys that were murdered. We looked back on the guy’s pictures and with the help of Foggy and Karen now we came to find that the suspect was close to another guy with the same marking on his wrist.
“I will send over the information to the lead officer” I nod at Karen. Our next step is to wait for them to take them into custody and wait for him to talk. Let the police do their jobs and have him give as much information as possible. What did that marking mean? Who was the suspect to him?
“Now what?” Foggy asked, as he is seated next to Matt and I. I take my phone out to check the time.
“Well it's 4:45. I say we take a break and resume this as soon as we hear anything from the police. I can’t miss Tony’s party and neither can you three” I part to my home to get ready. I rush home quickly, taking a shower and fixing myself up. Supricenly I look into the mirror and it doesn’t look like I havn’t slept well for the past 2 weeks. When I arrived at the tower the time hit 7:10. I took the elevator to the floor where they were having the party. It was a long way up but I finally made it.
“Look who’s here” I hear Tony scream from across the room. I would have turned right around but I notice Nat and Steve now behind Stark as he walks towards me.
“I brought you your succulent but those guys in the entrance took it from me” I say feeling his arms wrap around me and pulling towards the way he came from. “Happy birthday” I say quickly returning his smile.
“Thanks. I know you are a no show to parties but I want you to enjoy yourself tonight” I was about to argue with him but he always has to get his way or he won’t stop. “Come on do it for me. It's my birthday!” He grabs a drink from the waitress passing by and with that he walks away.
“I understand you’re his lawyer but that doesn’t mean you have to be his friend” I laugh at Nats words as I hug her, than Steve.
“I know I am not the most uplifting person but someone how in his little weird way he makes me like him. Plus the pay is good so if I have to come to these once every year I can take it”
“Well it's good to see you,” Steve says, handing me a drink. “So what has been keeping you busy from visiting us?” Nat and I follow him as he leads us towards the bar.
“I had this case that has been going on for 3 weeks and just this morning my client was found dead. Now it seems to be a murder but the officials want to pronounce it as a close case because some letter states he admitted fault” Damn I am going to need more alcohol.
“So they just want to throw him under the rug and call it a win?” I simply nod towards them stealing two cups from a waiter. “So what is the reason you think it was a suicide?” Before I could ramble on about what we figured out a tall figure walks behind steve and places a hand on his shoulder
“Hey man, I need to talk to you” The deep voice belonged to a dark-haired guy. Build with a strong stance. A vibridium arm. Call me crazy but I don’t even know how to handle my thoughts right now. Being in the presence of the avenger is not new. I know everything can be expected but not me becoming so infatuated with only looking at this guy for the first time. Who was he?
“Yeah of course” Steve got up, excusing himself from the table. “I will be back soon” I nod watching them both leave
“Bucky” I hear from the side. Quickly I noticed I was having a staring problem so I looked towards Nat with an awkward smile. “Well James Buchanan Barnes. He was stationed with Steve back in the 40s. We found him as the Winter Soilder”
“Oh yeah. You told me some details, before he had to go to Wakanda '' Nat mentions some things here and there but with her missions and my cases we prefer to leave our work lifes behind most of the times we hang out.
“Yeah. He seems much better now but I know its a struggle for him to get used to this world now” As she continues talking I can’t help but move my eyes discreetly towards them. The lights were low but when he was close I could tell they weren’t brown. His face was emotionless as he walked away but he tried to direct a smile towards us as he spoke to Steve. Being on the bad side most of your life and having to work for it now is not simple. “You like him.”
I shake my head, “No, no, just curious” It was true. He was the mysterious, cold looking, low voice guy in all of my books I have read before and fell in love with but I am too smart to know that something like that would work out. Boys in my books fight for what they want while battling their demons. When I see him I see a guy who has demons he has yet to overcome because the main demone is himself. He is struggling. His arm twitches and his head turns at every noise. He has things he needs to fix and if all my books are correct a woman may help but they want their space. Also the woman in the books does everything for them not to be alone and helps them fight their demons but I am not one to do so. I get scared and run away at the first look of difficulty. I am not the one to be placed with someone's trust and love. I can’t give you a correct response. I am not someone’s needs.
“Stop analyzing everything” She laughs while handing me another drink. “Is you were to stop anylizing eveythning and just go for it you would see how wonderful life could be '' She was right. Every move I make has to be foreseen by a pro and cons list. A breakdown of cause and effect. I break down my decisions and take the best route, even if my heart is telling me not to.
“Am a lawyer, that's what I do” I take a sip shrugging her off to change the conversation.
“Well how about for tonight you can be a girl in a little black dress who everybody in the party sees as carefree” I smile at her words. Of course I am not the one to let go but fuck it. Right?
“And what do you suggest, Miss. Romanoff?” She drinks her last glass and pulls out her hand.
“I suggest dancing like nobody's watching?” And that is exactly what we did. We dance past midnight. Many guests had left and while the rest were drinking and talking Nat and I were the only ones on the dance floor.
“Girls! The DJ needs to go” We both turned booing at Tony who was speaking through the microphone. “Don’t boo me! Go get some water!” We both laugh making our way to the other avengers. Which was only Steve, Wanda. Vis, Bruce and soon I knew Tony was going to come over.
“Hey I know you are not in the right mindset but I have something I would need help with in the morning?” Steve asked innocently which I only nodd to trying to gulp down a whole water bottle. “Its nothing just a ticket” I burst out laughing and soon the others follow.
“Goody two shoes got a ticket?!” Of couse Tony was the one with the nickname although everybody was thinking it.
“It wasn’t my fault! I was fed up with Nats feet on the dashboard and didn’t see the light was red”
“Well it wasn’t my fault either. You could just have ignored it but you chose to remove my feet yourse-'' We were caught off guard as the big windows outlooking the terrace blew up. I don’t know if they were the drinks or if I was just that tired but I don’t remember anything else from that night.
A/N: we are introduced to Bucky!!!. I am going to start writing the next part tomorrow and I want them to have a sort of enemies to lover kind of relationship but I don’t know how to get there. If you got any ideas feel free to comment. Thank you♥️

consider the main portion of this post as a twin of this incident ( related user ). meaning, there are things being done that show xz’s stance on certain subjects without him or his team being blatantly involved. if you’ve been observing, xz and his team will only directly/publicly address things if it absolutely has to. they tend to be more low key.

I’ve said in the past that we shouldn’t be looking into what other CPs do, especially if you’re on the SZD train. It’s because there is no sense in competing against a fictional pairing. But this discussion is more than that. So what happened was ( let’s say allegedly ), sina weibo sent messages/warnings to certain big name OOL CP fans about their fan made videos being deleted. You can guess what was being implied in those videos. A real life CP between GG and his co-star, which we know GG and his team have expressed not to do. Tho not in actual words but his team have said to pay attention to the story only.

If you see the dates of the messages, they are fairly recent. The message says the videos are infringing on copyright which I can understand in a way. However, isn’t it common for fans to do video edits from dramas? At least for XZ, his solo fans do mostly solo edits for him. His biggest CP fandom is BJYX and a lot of people have been doing LWJ x WWX edits for a long time now. Even ones with him and Web that are obviously CPF inclined. Or other edits that pair his and Web’s characters together ( ChenWei for example ). OOL and The Untamed are both Tencent Video’s IP so why is there a difference in treatment of fan made works. You can argue that Untamed edits have more eyes on them than OOL CP works, so this is a bit out of place.
The wording of the message also sounds like it’s more than copyright, mentioning that this is a necessary measure to prevent damage and liability. I’m not a lawyer or an expert but this sounds too much. Lol. Damage to what? Isn’t it good for fans to make edits because it shows the project is popular? It’s actually an indirect way to promote a show sometimes. People are also bringing back a comment made by OOL weibo account to a user who posted isn’t this xz and yz’s words? ( something like that lol ) in reference to Gu Wei and Lin Zhixiao’s little theatre. Implying that what’s happening is real. If you haven’t watched OOL, the ‘little theatre’ is like a behind the scenes between their GW x LZX and just them talking casually as their characters.
The drama weibo account basically said Gu Wei’s behavior does not promote XZ’s. ( It’s the second photo above on the right ). As if to say, what GW does has nothing to do with Xiao Zhan as the person. It is true but must they say it like that? Lol. And also, why does the answer only pertain to XZ? It’s two people that the fan talked about. Why did the account only mention XZ as if making sure to stop any misunderstanding on XZ’s side? 🤔

I’ve always wondered if XZ had an updated contract with OOL’s airing and he made sure that a clause was added to not promote real-life CP. Aside from it being a marketing ploy that is beneath him ( look i’m not shading others who do it but you have to agree that with XZ’s status it will do him more bad press than good ) it’s not needed. It is actually not good for his image to come off as someone who will date all his female co stars then drop them as soon as business is over.
you could say heterosexual pairings are dangerous and it’s bad for business. true. but to go to these lengths? seems a bit too much to me. you also hear rumors that he won’t do cp promos for yuguyao. I’m not saying he’s doing this because he is afraid that Web will be jealous. They both are more mature and professional than that. I’m saying, BJYX is still here. All the fan works and the fandom is as active as ever. Both sides are not doing anything to actively stop it. They can both be in HS and it won’t get deleted. The boys clearly have no problem with the idea of them being associated to each other. It’s not evidence of a romantic relationship, but a proof that they do not hate each other to the point of wanting to erase any connection.
I’m also cackling at how XZ does things like this. He’s too stubborn and will not just say yes to what people expect him to do. He’s always been firm with his boundaries, more and more, I see him keep his private life — well, private. as it should be. I’m pretty sure this won’t be the last. We will probably see more of these silent actions by bunny laoshi! 😌

Request by danipearl16: Request- Jay has a girlfriend that nobody knows about and then they get a case where she’s being stalked and her stalker is killings women that seem to remind him of her and it turns out to be her ex-boyfriend from high school and Jay starts going downhill a little bit because he’s worried about her. Also his girlfriend is more on the younger than his side by 7 years

You looked up from where you were sprawled on the couch, fiddling with your phone. Jay was sitting at the table, a small frown across his face as he pored over case notes.
Jay usually didn’t bring his work home with him but they’d just closed a big case and he had spent a whole week in the district. So instead of spending more time there to finish the paperwork, Jay had opted to bring it home instead.
You smiled to yourself just as Jay looked up. “Sorry babe.” He said, making a little face at the papers strewn across the table.
Chuckling, you climbed off the couch and moved towards him. You stood behind him, looping your arms around his shoulders, resting your chin on his shoulder. “I missed you.” You whispered.
Jay turned slightly, tugging you so that you now landed in his lap.
“Missed you too.” He whispered, smiling as one of his arms snaked around your waist, holding you securely to him, another hand reaching up to cup your cheek. “Sorry I’ve been busy.”
You shook your head, smiling.
You’d been dating for a while but no one else knew. Both of you had agreed to keep it on the down low, partly because of your age difference. Even though you had agreed you’d keep it quiet at least for the first few months, it had been a lot more than that and it had been going so well that you didn’t really want to purposefully invite anyone into this world that Jay and you had created for yourselves. Rather than keeping it a secret, you guys just hadn’t made the effort to tell anyone or publicize it to the world. This also meant that when he was stuck at the district, you didn’t get to see him but on such days, Jay was always mindful about checking in.
“What’s on your mind?” Jay asked.
“Just thinking I’m lucky to have you.” You responded, leaning in to try to give him a hug. Instead, Jay stroked your cheek and pressed his lips to yours. “Now, I really need to finish this.”
You laughed. “Go forth.”

Jay had taken a few well-deserved days of furlough, which he had mostly spent curled up with you. You didn’t have any complaints, it had been just what you both needed.
But Intelligence couldn’t catch a break. It was Jay’s first day back and now, he was already walking up to a crime scene.
Jay pushed the yellow crime scene tape upwards, letting Hailey walk through ahead of him before following behind her.
“What do we have?” Jay asked, approaching the spot where Adam and Kim were standing.
Kim turned. “Kate Whitewood, 22, stabbed multiple times.”
“She’s not in the system. No priors, nothing.” Adam added.
“No belongings on her?” Voight asked, looking around.
Adam shook his head. Jay frowned. “There’s barely any blood here.”
Kevin nodded, jogging forward to join them. “This is probably just the dump site. She must have been killed elsewhere.”
Hailey stood from where she had bent to examine the body. “She has defensive wounds on her. Maybe we’ll get lucky and find skin under her fingernails.”
Jay bent forward slightly. “What are those? Marks around her neck? We need to get her to the ME to get the exact cause of death.”
“Kim, bag her hands and get forensics to run a deluxe.” Voight said, as Kim nodded.
“My CI works this street, let me see what I can find out.” Jay said, turning away.

“So Kate was last seen at this bar right in town.” Hailey said, walking in and sticking a screenshot onto the board, which showed a camera view of the street outside the bar.
Kate could be seen on the image, her head turned slightly as she waved to someone, a man standing by her side. Hailey tapped the image.
“We can’t find this guy. His face is always turned away from the camera, facial recognition is out.”
Voight nodded. “Jay, have you heard from your CI?”
Jay nodded, resting slightly against Hailey’s desk, his arms crossed in front of him. “My guy says there haven’t been any deals going down. I think we can rule out drugs or gangs. Streets have been quiet ever since that big bust we did last month.”
“It was 28 degrees out last night, ME couldn’t find the exact time of death. But there were signs she was raped, signs of asphyxiation and five penetration wounds from a knife.” Kevin said, opening the file he had gotten from the medical examiner earlier.
Voight turned to Kim. “Who was she?”
Kim sighed. “Kate was a hard worker, she had just started her job as a receptionist at a dentist’s office in South Loop. Dad’s MIA, Mum’s remarried and relocated to New York so she’s living on her own.”
“Have we found who she was with last night?”
Adam nodded. “I’ve gone through her phone. Looks like she was meeting her friend Grace at the club last night.”
“We need to talk to her. I want to know about the last day of Kate’s life. Timeline. Check all sex offenders in the area. Comb her social media. Let’s go.” Voight instructed.

Jay knocked on the main door, glancing sideways at Hailey. The door swung open.
“Grace Archer? I’m Detective Upton, this is Detective Halstead, can we come in?” Hailey asked.
She furrowed her brows. “What’s this about?”
“You’re friends with Kate Whitewood?” Hailey asked, without directly answering her question. She nodded and without missing a beat, Hailey continued, “We need to ask you a few questions about last night.”
Grace stepped back to let them in, her face falling as she led them to the sitting room.
“I heard from her parents. The whole thing’s horrible.” Grace whispered, wrapping her hands around herself.
“Can you tell us what you remember?” Jay asked.
Grace looked up. “Kate’s boyfriend had broken up with her a few months ago, so I took her out. She needed to get out again.”
“Were you approached by anyone?” Hailey asked.
“Several.” She answered.
“Anyone that stood out?”
Grace paused, trying to recall. “Kate didn’t even really want to go. She barely looked at the guys… except…”
Hailey sat up a little. “There must have been something about this guy that she left with, something unique. We have a photo of him on the surveillance tape. Flashy?”
Grace nodded, “Yeah, he had this like... attitude… like he was hitting on us but he was making a joke of it at the same time.” She paused. “The last thing she told me was that she had a great time… I shouldn’t have forced her to come out.”
“This isn’t your fault.” Hailey leaned over and patted Grace comfortingly on the arm. “Thanks for talking to us. Please call us if you think of anything else.”
As Jay walked out of Grace’s house with Hailey, he looked at his partner. “This guy’s confident, he’s smooth and it doesn’t look like he knew Kate or Grace.”

For the rest of the day, the team had almost combed through the whole of Kate’s whereabouts before she had disappeared and all they had was a big fat nothing.
Jay typed a quick text to you to let you know that he wasn’t going to be able to come over tonight.
You read the text, smiling a little. Jay was busy but it was cute that he always kept you informed. You stopped walking, typing back a reply to tell him it was okay and to do what he had to do, before you kept her phone back into your pocket.
You walked along the street, the same street you walked on every night, frowning a little. You turned around, scanning the street behind you.
You could swear that it was like someone was watching you, or following you. But the street was empty. This wasn’t the first time you had had this feeling - like the little hairs on the back of your neck were standing but you had nothing to back up this feeling you had.
Holding your bag tighter against you, you pushed yourself forward, quickening your footsteps, only letting up as you passed the safety of your apartment building’s front door.
As you passed the threshold of your apartment and closed the door behind you, you pulled out your phone, staring at it for a while. Part of you wanted to call Jay, to hear his voice and have him tell you that you were just tired, imagining things. But the rational part of your brain convinced yourself that everything was okay, reminding you that Jay was so busy and deep in a case, he really shouldn’t have to worry about you.
Ultimately, you put your phone on the counter, chuckling at yourself. Maybe you really were too tired.

By the next morning, another body had turned up, not two streets away from the first dump site.
Jay felt an uneasy feeling spread in the pit of his stomach as he stared at the photo of the new victim that was already up on the board. They had a serial killer in Chicago and this guy’s victim type had physical characteristics that were scarily similar to you.
“Jay.” Hailey broke Jay out of his thoughts. “Emma Green, 23, strangulation marks, six stab wounds.”
Jay turned to his partner and nodded. “Did they go to the same club?”
Hailey handed Jay a file. “No, but look at what we picked up on the surveillance camera.” Jay opened the file, studying the photo.
“This is our guy isn’t it?” He pointed at a male figure who was standing next to their second victim, his face still hidden from the camera, wearing a plain cap.
“Hey guys, I might have found a link.” Kim said, walking in. “I checked the employee records and there’s a bartender that works in both clubs and he was on shift on each day our victims went missing. He’s got a prior for aggravated assault and harassment.”
“We’ll take it.” Jay said, grabbing his jacket and heading out of the district.
Hailey fell into step next to him, glancing at him. “Jay, you okay?”
Jay nodded. “Let’s just get this son of a bitch.”
They travelled the rest of the way in silence. Hailey seemed to pick up that this case was affecting Jay differently but she didn’t press further, allowing Jay to lead the way into the closed club.
“Ben Carlton?”
The bartender looked up from where he was, his eyes falling onto the police badge that was hung around Jay’s neck.
In a sudden motion, he ducked out and ran.
“Hey, stop!” Jay yelled, as both he and Hailey launched themselves after him, Hailey shooting out the front door to try to head him off.
“5021 George, I have a suspect fleeing on foot.” Jay called into his radio, sprinting after the bartender.
The bartender barely made it onto the next street before Hailey flung herself at him around the corner, rolling onto the ground as Jay pulled out his gun. “Don’t move!” He yelled, as Hailey pulled the bartender to his feet.
“Let’s go.” Jay snarled.

“It wasn’t me!” Ben yelled as he sat in the interrogation room, facing Jay and Hailey.
Jay sighed internally, watching Ben’s reactions and the way he was answering the questions Hailey was shooting at him.
“Those were mistakes, I didn’t do this!” He yelled again.
Jay pushed himself upright, getting up from where he was leaning against the wall and pushing the photos of the victims onto the table. “This. Look at this. We can place these girls at the bars you worked at just before they died.”
“Look.” Ben said, looking up at Jay. “I saw them but they left before I even finished my shift.”
Jay glanced at Hailey. “Who did they leave with?” Hailey asked.
Ben looked from Hailey to Jay. “Look, I don’t know the guy, he’s not a regular. But he’s white, about their age. I noticed him because he headed for them the moment that he walked in. Like he knew they were there.”
Before Jay or Hailey moved, a knock came from the door.
“You guys gotta see this.” Adam said, sticking his head in.
“Sit tight.” Jay said to Ben, following Adam outside, where Kevin was waiting as well.
Kevin handed the file to Jay. “We got another one.” Jay flipped open the file, which told him what he already feared. Another victim, of a physical type that not only matched the first two victims but also you.
Jay looked up. “His cooling off period is getting shorter. We need to get this son of a bitch.”

The feeling was getting a little stronger that someone had been watching you.
You glanced over your shoulder but as usual the street was empty. Maybe you needed to stop staying late.
You turned back towards the front. There were sounds of footsteps but you swallowed the lump in your throat, quickening your pace as discreetly as you could.
It definitely felt like someone was following you now. You were almost running by the time you rounded the corner, colliding with someone.
You gave a yelp of surprise.
“Y/N!”
You had collided with Jay.
You let out a breath, spinning around to look over your shoulder.
“What’s going on? You okay?” Jay’s eyes snapped from you to the empty street behind you.
You turned back to look at Jay. Now that he was standing in front of you, it didn’t seem that scary anymore - maybe you had imagined the whole thing.
You shook your head, taking one last glance behind you. “What are you doing here? You finished the case?”
Jay smiled but the smile didn’t really reach his eyes. “Just wanted to check in on you. I have to go back soon.”
You reached for his hand without saying anything and that’s how the both of you walked back to your apartment, your hand clenched securely in his, almost like the both of you had a tight bubble around you.
You could tell Jay’s mind was far away, and it was even more unlike him to come see you in the middle of a case. You knew there was something troubling him but you weren’t one to press. Jay would tell you when he felt he could or he wanted to.
Instead, you just squeezed his hand.
Almost as if you were prying him from his thoughts, Jay looked at you and smiled. He pulled you closer to him, tucking you under his arm.
“You’re okay, right?” You asked, without looking up at him, just as he escorted you to your door.
Jay turned to look at you and nodded. “I will be, once this case is over.” He leaned forward to give you a kiss. “If anything happens, you call me, okay? No matter what.”
You raised an eyebrow but nodded at him, watching him disappear into the elevator before you retreated back into your apartment.

Intelligence had been tirelessly chasing down leads but they now had four bodies and Voight was getting pressure to solve this quickly as well. They needed a break in this case and fast.
“Okay, let’s regroup, what do we have so far?” Voight barked.
“All four victims were raped and found with multiple stab wounds. We know he picks up his victims from bars and appears non-threatening enough that his victims are willing to leave with him.” Jay said, getting up.
Hailey headed to the board, frowning. “We dumped their phones but we weren’t able to find any connection between the victims other than their physical type.” Hailey cast a look at Jay, which Voight didn’t miss. “I think he’s working his way up to something.”
“Hey guys?” Kim spoke up as she walked back in, flipping open the file sitting on her desk. “I went back over the first murder to see if we missed anything. Look at this.”
Kim pulled in her chair, zooming into the photo. “This badge here on his jacket, it’s barely visible so we missed it the first few times. I sent it to the lab to see if they could enhance the image and this is what I got.”
Kim clicked and up popped the crest of a high school. “Look, it’s not just a general badge. Look at the year.”
“Okay, that is the crest for Lincoln High. It’s a jacket given to those who graduated that year.” Kevin said, frowning at it.
“I’ll run the list of students who graduated in that year.” Jay barked, heading straight for his desk, his fingers flying across his keyboard.
Cross-checking was the worst job ever but the moment Jay’s eyes landed on your name on the list of graduates, he pulled it together, eliminating the women, men who had moved out of state or country, until finally he only had three names on the list.
“Okay, I have a Steven Miller, Charles Shoemaker and John Marlin.” Jay finally spoke up as everyone looked up. “But only Steven Miller has priors.”
“For harassment, sexual misconduct, and attempted assault. Sarge, this has to be our guy.” Jay looked up at Voight.
“Do we have an LKA?” Voight asked.
“Already on it.” Adam said.
“Go pick him up.” Adam nodded, motioning to Kevin as they headed out.
Something was bugging Jay. Steven Miller. That name was…
Fuck.
Jay pushed back his chair, entering Voight’s office without knocking and closing the door behind him.
“Sarge.”
Voight looked up, frowning a little at the look on Jay’s face. He put down his pen and leaned back in his chair, looking up at Jay.
“I’ve heard Miller’s name before. It was bugging me, but I remember now.”
Voight sat up straighter.
“I’m seeing his ex-girlfriend.” The words slipped past Jay’s lips. “Sarge, everything makes sense now. The physical type, the way he’s building up because his actual target…” Jay trailed off.
You had told Jay about Steven just once. You hadn’t gone into detail but you had told Jay about the short period that you had been together with Steven – his need for control over all aspects of your life, how he had always been a little rough, how he hadn’t taken any form of rejection well, and how you’d ended it the day he struck you.
“Take Hailey.”
Jay was already halfway to the door.

You had left early today.
It had been a while since you had done such an early shift but you’d been feeling more and more uneasy while walking home at night and the news coverage on the murders that were happening at the moment didn’t help.
You didn’t need Jay to tell you that you looked exactly like those girls who had been murdered. It was clear as day.
You fiddled with the key in the lock, opening the door.
You felt your heart drop into your stomach as you registered the person standing in front of you. In your house.
“Steven.” You muttered, your voice trembling, barely registering the butt of a gun heading towards your temple before it went dark.

Hailey hadn’t said anything but she knew something was off.
“Jay, what’s going on?” She asked. “How do you know this girl’s the target?”
Jay didn’t answer but pressed harder on the accelerator, gripping the steering wheel so hard, his knuckles were white. The ringing tone going off through his bluetooth speaker in the car making him feel even worse.
“Jay.” Hailey said again. “I’m your partner.”
Jay glanced at her now. “She’s my girlfriend.”
Hailey’s eyebrows shot up. “I didn’t even know you were seeing someone.”
Jay let a beat of silence passed. “Miller’s her ex. I should have seen the signs, the physical type, everything, I…”
“Jay. She’ll be fine. Come on.” Hailey reassured him, as he turned his truck onto the familiar street.
“She’s still not answering.” Jay said, through gritted teeth. He’d been trying to call you since he had left the station.
Without hesitation, Jay bounded up the stairs, Hailey right behind him. From down the corridor, Jay could already tell your door was slightly ajar.
“Hang back.” Jay whispered, pulling out his service weapon.
Jay quietly approached the door. “Y/N?” He opened the door with his foot, freezing as his eyes landed on you, sitting in a chair in the middle of the room, your eyes frantic as Steven held a knife to your throat from where he stood behind you.
Jay gritted his teeth, using his foot to slam the door shut, knowing that Hailey would know what to do.
“Step away from her.” Jay growled, pointing his gun directly at Steven.
Steven smiled. “I was wondering when you’d arrive. Put that down.”
Jay grinded his teeth but didn’t move. You felt the cold blade of the knife press against your skin and inhaled sharply.
“Put. It. Down.” Steven repeated.
“Okay, okay.” Jay said, glancing at you before putting his hands above his head, disarming his gun and putting it down onto the floor.
Steven smiled again, tucking a stray hair behind your ear.
“Don’t you fucking touch her.” Jay growled.
“I don’t think you’re in a position to tell me what to do.” Steven answered.
“Jay, I’m sorry.” You whispered.
Jay looked straight at you. “It’s going to be okay. You focus on me, you hear me? I’m right here.”
“We broke up a long time ago, what the hell are you doing?” You asked. You were afraid, hell you were trembling, but this was crazy and you had to help Jay to find a way out of this.
“We wouldn’t be broken up if he hadn’t come between us.” Steven snarled, moving closer towards you, his lips almost touching your ear.
Jay growled. “Leave her alone.”
Steven looked back up at Jay again.
“What, you mean don’t do this?” Steven asked, crushing his lips against yours.
“Don’t you fucking touch her!” Jay yelled. “Is that what you did? How you forced yourself on all the other girls? What do you want, Steven? What are you trying to accomplish?”
“All I wanted was to be with Y/N! But you took her.” He spat.
“So you decided to go on a rampage?” Jay asked. You saw him twitch like he was looking for something so you started talking, as much as it made you want to gag.
“Steven, why didn’t you just talk to me?” You asked, trying to distract him.
“Talk? All you care about is him!” He yelled, lifting the knife and pointing it at Jay.
It happened in a split second.
The moment he lifted the knife, Jay yelled, “Now, Y/N!”
You threw yourself forward, covering your head with your hands as you heard the gunshots go off, just two. You weren’t sure who was shooting but you didn’t move until you heard Jay’s voice again.
“Y/N, it’s okay, it’s over.” Jay whispered.
You looked up, Jay’s face hovering above you.
“Jay…”
Jay nodded, “It’s okay, come here.”
Jay pulled his arms around you.
“He…” Jay shook his head, shielding your view of Steven’s now motionless body. “Don’t look back, come on.”
Jay tried to lead you out of the apartment, barely making it to the main door before his teammates appeared. “Jay!” Kevin called, as he spotted both of you.
Jay nodded. “Thanks.” Kevin nodded, his eyes lingering on the way Jay was holding you close to his side before making way for Jay to lead you back down to the ground floor where the ambulances were waiting.
Jay led you all the way to the waiting paramedics, not even leaving your side to get himself checked.
You weren’t hurt, not really. There was a little open cut from where Steven had pressed the blade a little too hard when he had been agitated but other than that you were fine. Well, that, and that disgusting feeling that came with remembering how Steven had pressed his lips against yours.
Voight approached you and Jay. Jay squeezed your hand. “I’ll be right back.” You smiled and nodded.
Jay and Voight talked in low voices until Voight turned to look at you. “And she’s okay?”
Jay nodded. “Yeah, she is. I just need to…”
“Do what you need to do. We’ll finish up here.” Voight said, nodding and clapping Jay on the back.

The paramedics had dressed the wound on the scene before Jay had brought you back to his apartment.
After getting you into a clean change of clothes and some warm food in you, you had ended up back in your favourite place in the world – on Jay’s couch, in Jay’s apartment, encircled in Jay’s arms.
You lay your head on Jay’s chest.
“So this was all because of me?” You asked in a low voice.
Jay sat up, looking at you. “What?”
“He killed all those women… because of me. I got them killed.” You whispered.
“No, no, baby.” Jay propped himself up, but didn’t let you go. “This is not your fault. Steven he… he did this, not you.”
You looked up at him. “He even… in front of you… he…” You could feel tears welling up in your eyes, you felt disgusting. He’d kissed you, he’d done it in front of Jay and he’d ruined everything.
You hadn’t said that much but Jay just tilted your chin upwards and kissed you. “Jay…”
“I’ll take it all away.” Jay whispered. “I’m sorry, I should have been there sooner.”
You shook your head, swiping away the tears that had slid down your cheeks.
Jay cupped your cheek again, pulling you into his chest. You balled your hand around his shirt, gripping at Jay.
“It’s okay, I’m here. I’m not going anywhere.” Jay whispered.
“I’ll never let anyone touch you ever again.” He half snarled, still caressing you gently.
You leaned into his embrace, closing your eyes as the sound of Jay’s heartbeat gently lulled you back into the feeling of safety and security.

Hotch x reader - Broken souls

Part 30:
Sitting up, you looked around. Everything was white, it was almost blinding.
You slowly stood up, trying to find anything that might tell you where you were but you couldn’t see anything.
“You’re back.”
You jumped, spinning around to face a woman, at first you couldn’t see her form at first.
As she got closer you started to notice that she looked like you, exactly like you.
The only thing different was the clothes, she was wearing your hydra uniform, and had a large scar going down the right side of her face.
“You.. you’re me…?”
“Yes.”
You stared at yourself.
Bringing your hand up to your face, you trialed it along the side that she had the scar over but there was nothing there.
“Where am I?”
“Your afterlife.”
Your heart dropped.
Afterlife?
You died?
Slowly sitting on the floor, you placed a hand over your chest, clutching your shirt as you took a few deep breaths.
“You’ve been here a few times, haven’t you?”
“Yes…”
You watched the woman kneel down, all around you memories from your life started to appear all around you.
They were like silent films.
There was no sound, just flashes of images passing by.
“You’ve lived on hell of a life.”
“Tell me about it…”
Flicking your eyes to the woman, you carried on watching the memories flash by.
You were focused on the ones from the BAU, the most recent ones.
“You tried to redeem yourself.”
“Yeah….”
She hummed and stood up, with the snap of her fingers the scene changed and you were in the tower.
Everyone was crying, and you turned to her.
“What’s happening?”
“You died. It’s why you’re with me.”
You walked over to your brother first, going to place a hand on his shoulder but it simply phased right through.
Instead, you took a step back and wiped a stray tear that fell from your face.
“I’m so sorry Buck…”
Steve walked over and hugged him, and you looked at all of the others.
“They tried for hours to keep you stable, but there was just too much damage. They couldn’t save you.”
“So… there’s no coming back this time…?”
“I don’t think so little one.”
You turned to Hotch who was sat on the floor, and knelt in front of him.
You sighed, placing your ghostly hand over his as you sniffled a little bit.
“But what about them…?”
“They’ll move on.”
“They’ll forget me?”
“Everyone will eventually.”
You let out a chocked sob.
“I had everything…”
“Then why didn’t you keep it?”
“Because I wanted justice…”
The woman walked over, standing behind Hotch.
Looking up, you stood up as well.
“I don’t regret what I did. I regret who I had to become in order to do it…”
“You craved vengeance, something many people do. And I’m doing so you pathed your path. You chose the path of taking hydra out. Why?”
“Because this world is ruled by hatred, and hatred alone. I was so blinded by my hatred for hydra I didn’t realise the people I would be leaving behind.”
You stood in the middle of the room, looking at all the people mourning for your loss.
You never thought you’d have anyone who would cry when you died.
You thought when you finally did you would just be forgotten, nothing but a memory in the minds of the handlers of hydra.
“As long as there is a concept of evil, there will always be good to follow. Not every nice person is good and not every bad person is evil.”
“What?”
“You are not an evil person (Y/N), are a good soul who was forced to do bad things.”
She waved her hand again and this time you were stood in a large empty room, and she walked over to a desk.
Following behind her, you sat in the chair she offered you and watched as she sat down as well.
“It is your time to move on. Start your journey in the afterlife.”
“What if I don’t want to…?”
She rose a brow at you.
“You would want to go back to the life you left? The memories, the pain and suffering you faced?”
You looked up, tears in your eyes as you pulled a photo from your pocket.
“If it meant I could have a chance of being happy. Yes. I would face all that suffering again if I could just face one more moment with them…”
“And if you can’t?”
“Then I’ll spend every moment here waiting for them.”
The woman smiled slightly, resting her chin on her hand.
“You surely have come a long way, you’ve grown so much.”
She handed you something, a slip of paper and you frowned.
“It’s your ticket to heaven. When you’re ready to finally cross over, hand it to the man at the gate.”
You frowned even more.
“Does this mean… I really can’t go back…?”
“One final time. You deserve the happiness you found, more than anyone that comes here. You worked so hard to make up for what you’ve done, it’s time we let you have that love in your life.”
You shot up, a huge smile on your face as you looked around.
“Where do I go?”
“That way.”
She pointed behind you and you started running, only to stop when she called your name.
“I’m sorry for the things we put you through.”
“I understand.”
With that, you carried on running and the light surrounded you as you ran towards the gates.
Suddenly you shot up, taking a deep breath as you held a hand over your chest, feeling your heart beating wildly.
Looking at your scarred hand, you gently got off the bed, using the metal hand to hold you against the wall as you started to walk.
You were in so much pain, but you had to see them. Let them know you were okay

He’s got all the symptoms. He’s speechless, over the edge and just breathless. He never thought he’d get hit by the ‘love-bug’ again’. Inspired by the song Lovebug by Jonas Brothers!
A/N: Y/N is an assistant director on Cherry in this fic. This has a lot of Cherry (the movie) references but most are explained if you haven’t seen the film. Such as, it was filmed in Cleveland and Morocco, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. Some scenes in this fic borrow from the movie & I’ve linked clips from the film if you’d like to listen/watch along. WC: 4K.
“Yeah, Mum, I’ve just got like the sorest throat at the moment.” Nikki’s picture cuts in and out on a scrambled screen on the South side of London, her husband’s hand periodically reaching out for her, rubbing her shoulder, then leaving the frame almost as quickly as it came in. Even through the low quality, the pixels dashing about his screen, Tom can make out his mother’s brows knitting together and can’t remove the feeling of utter guilt when he sees her grow redder and redder out of anger, concern and confusion for her son. “But I’ve got Harry here with me.” Harry waves from behind his brother, his trusty mug swapped for a Phoenix Coffee Cup in his spare hand, just to get a taste of the States.
Tom reckons that's why he’s sick. He barely drinks coffee on the other side of the pond, and would bet good money that an at home PG Tips would beat America’s swankiest coffee joint any day. But now, he’s betrayed his usual routine and his body’s all out of whack and his throat is hoarse, he’s breathless even at times.
Harry shoots his mum a half smile to comfort her, but he doesn’t know what it's like to be a mother, and his and Tom’s mouth both form an ‘O’ when Nikki begins to type so hard her screen jolts and Tom swears she’s put a dent in it. “You know what? I’m going to give them a piece of my mind, Tom! They’re overworking you!” Nikki looks intensely to find her baby boy in drug-addled eyes and his jungle of curls on his newly shaven head. She guesses it becomes easier when Tom pushes his face halfway into the screen and pleads like the child he’ll always be to her, “Please, please Mum! I can’t have any days off. Under any circumstances, I need to finish this film!”
Tom turns to his younger brother for help. “Tell her, Harry!”
And as little brothers do best, Harry spills the beans as soon as Tom’s phone is in clutch. “Tom’s fallen in love with the first A.D., Y/N.”
Nikki immediately loses her frown, knowing how love can knock Tom off his feet and blow all the wind out of him. Tom’s father, Dom, re-enters the frame to match Nikki’s grin. He never misses an opportunity to tease. “Oo, caught a case of the love bug, have you?”
Harry has to whip the phone around to dodge Tom’s protesting arms reaching for it again. “Don’t listen to Harry. I’m not in love. I just like Y/N.”
“A lot.” Harry mutters. Tom’s family doesn’t budge any further, knowing how bad Tom was hurt after his last relationship. They weren't sure when the love bug would come back to bite him again. So after they all shared a knowing look, Harry handed Tom his phone back. “I’ll keep you updated. Bye, Mum.”
It all started five weeks ago. Tom, at 24, was beginning to feel like love was trudging up a high hill he couldn’t come down from, where every beat of heart was feeling like an ache on an open wound.  Tom had yet to meet a lover to prove distance makes the heart grow fonder, finding himself in six month long entanglements and illusions of love before things inevitably went sour.
He’d say, perhaps, you were the closest thing to the real deal. The problem was, he didn’t know if you liked him back.
“When life was beginning, I saw -”
“When life was-”
“When life was be-fuck!”
“When life was beginning, I saw you.”
Tom could make a picture book out of the day he first met you. He remembers how your hair looked that day, the speckles of genuinity in your eyes, how your ear-to-ear smile seemed to be a mirror because every time he saw you from then on, he brandished the same beam. He recalls how his eyes went low as he dropped his script to his lap and stared at your lips, so soft and kissable, as you repeated his words back to him: “When life was beginning, I saw you.” Then you chuckled softly as Tom waited patiently for his head and his heart to return to him.
“I’m sorry. I’m dyslexic. I have a bit of trouble reading.”
“It’s cool, I'm the first A.D. That’s what I’m here for.”
You rubbed your hands on the back of your trousers, your mic jostling in your back pocket as you attempted to rid yourself of your nervous, sweaty palms.
“I’m Y/N.” You reached out for a shake only for Tom to cough loudly into his own hand. 
“Fuck! I’m so sorry! That wasn’t me trying to get out of your handshake. I- I-.” Tom looked at his hand for it had failed him for the first time in his life. His hand that had helped him up during handstands, being his crutch through cartwheels and backflips, but had decidedly run out of luck to be on the receiving end of Tom’s monstrous cough impending a handshake with someone his eyes just couldn’t look away from.
You laugh again. Your laugh sounds like melody, Tom muses. Awestruck, he wishes he could play it again, repeat it like a radio hit and never wash himself of the feeling he got when he heard your laugh for the first time.
“It’s all good. I’ll see you around.” You disappear from his trailer, likely on a venture to your own, when Joe and Anthony block his view of you walking away.
Anthony and Joe take on the ghost of you in Tom’s room, “Tom! The man, the myth and the legend!” Joe comes behind him to rub his newly hairless head. “We’re so glad you agreed to do this movie!” 
“Bummed that you’re not coming to the Browns game tonight, though.” Anthony remarks, throwing a football at Joe who sets it in his lap.
“Harry and I, we’re British, mate. We play football with our feet.”
Joe doesn’t know it then, but his next words are the beginning of the end for Tom. He rubs on his football and looks Tom in his eye when he poses, “It’s a shame ‘cause the whole crew’s going. First day of filming celebrations.”
“The whole crew?”
Anthony mumbles an ‘mhm’ as he picks up a framed photo of Tom and RDJ sitting pretty on Tom’s dresser, posing like father and son.
Tom’s usually self assured when he’s on set, but he’s hesitant to say this next improvised line. His voice trails off as he speaks. “Including Y/N?”
“Y/N?” Joe queries, with a smile that’s half scary and half comforting, and the butterflies in Tom’s stomach are begging him not to fuck this up and suddenly every second a word is not spoken feels like hours have passed and he might have ruined things before they’ve even started, gosh he just met you and-
Tom tries to play it cool. “I don’t- they’re cool.” Tom coughs again. “I mean, I don’t really know them but Y/N seems cool I guess.”
Anthony and Joe smile at each other, scrambling to exit. “Whole crew’s going, baby!” Joe beams.
“Please don’t tell Y/N I asked!” Tom shouts before they’re out of earshot.
“Yeah, yeah. Anthony, go long!”
A few hours later, Tom was sitting next to an unamused Harry, you on his left, foam fingers pointing every which way. 
“Are you a big football fan?” Tom asked, imposter syndrome creeping up on him. He had the best seats in the house, but knew not a thing about this sport he’d come down to watch. Meanwhile, crew and crowd alike sat themselves around you guys, cheering leaving throats raw for days to come and a tussle for a foam finger between Joe and Anthony leading to hundreds of sugary popcorn shells scattered on the stadium floor.
“I mean, I wouldn’t ever turn down the option to look at Odell Beckham Jr. Are you?” you replied.
Tom looked over to his brother who sat with his chin in his hand, lips pulled into a thin straight line as his rusty curls were blown about from the wind of brown and orange flags flown from fans behind him. “We could learn to love it.” Tom flashed you a toothy grin, unsure of where to guide the conversation next. He knew for sure that he wanted to keep talking to you, but his ego began putting up a fight, eager to show himself off if you’d have him in any way. Tom sighed. “Truth is, we have no fucking clue what’s going on.” Tom could hear the commentary about a player reaching the end zone, but they were all just words that went into one ear then came straight out of the other.
You giggled. “I have no idea either. We could make up our own rules if you want.”
Tom likes the way you think. He also likes the way you speak. He loves the way you laugh.
“You have a beautiful laugh.” 
You covered your mouth. “Oh, fuck, I hate my laugh!”
“I’d make you laugh a thousand times if I could.”
You pointed to the jumbo screen as Mayfield made a touchdown, unable to stop laughing from sheer nerves as you felt Tom’s hot, burning haze on you. An advert for Cleveland’s Own Phoenix Coffee flashed on the screen as you spoke. “We’ll make our own rules. Every time we see the quarterback pick up the ball, we’ll cheer.”
By the end of the night, Tom is speechless, breathless and over the edge of his chair in faux excitement and anticipation of the quarterback receiving the ball once again. 
“Another coffee?” The service worker asked.
“Yes please!” You and Tom both say in unison, pumped as the quarterback began circling around to collect the ball in open arms.
The footage of the game is cut abruptly as the camera points to a confused, solo Harry; Anthony and Joe are seen at the edge of the frame whispering suggestively and pointing towards Tom, the camera eventually capturing the superstar who looks back up at his own reflection. Poorly green screened hearts flood the screen and the camera pans to include you in the frame too. Tom looks on in horror when he realises what’s going on and how it could be too late, and turns to you.
“I promise I didn’t know this was going on. We don’t have to.” Tom panics. 
You hear him loud and clear, that you don’t have to, but your heart and eleven thousand people are telling you to kiss him otherwise. “Oh well. We should just do it.” you murmur, the bright pink ‘KISSCAM’ logo flashing in and out.
It doesn’t take more than a moment for the gap between you and Tom to close, for your face to get lost behind his, his lips pressing against yours, eyes closed, trusting each other to share your air. This was probably the first thing that night worth cheering for, howls and whistles erupting around you. 
Tom doesn’t understand American football, but he thinks that the best seats in the house could be anywhere next to you.
Harry’s on the phone to his twin brother, Sam, when you and the rest of the crew make it back to the hotel later on. “-Yeah, and Tom spent half the night with the first A.D. cheering and screaming at fuck all.”
The Cleveland Browns lost that night, but Tom remains none the wiser. He stood in the doorway as Harry continued to relay his day to Sam. “Oh, and Tom, Mum said to give her a call, eavesdropper.” He flicks Tom’s reddening nose before closing the door.
A week and a half later, Tom reckons that's why he’s sick. He never has the time anymore to attend ‘real’ football games back home, and he actually understands the game back in Britain. But now, he’s cheered at almost every given opportunity to impress you stupidly, and his chest and voice is suffering as a consequence.
You and Tom walked onto set with your pinkies intertwined, growing closer and closer by the minute, but Tom doesn’t miss how Ciara’s boyfriend visits set every day for her, doesn’t miss how they rub their nose together in this lovey-dovey affection he wishes he could bestow upon you.
The scene wasn’t working.
The crew was beginning to grow restless and Tom silently became more frustrated as the minutes went by and he was unable to get his lines right. He remembers how a week ago, it felt so easy. You were there to correct him when he stumbled upon his lines and you picked him up so effortlessly, a twinkling smile on your face. But then? Then you were different. Your eyes were scrunched up behind the lens of the camera and you were mumbling something to Anthony about how the sun was due to go down in Ohio soon so you needed to hurry along.
“Alright.” you announced. “Take five!”
And Tom was thankful, Ciara perched upon a swing for the scene they were filming, Tom dwindling the rope of the swing under his finger as her boyfriend approached her once again. “Hey dude, are you okay?”
Ciara looked at Tom with the same concern, hands finding home in her boyfriend’s nest of hair. “Yeah, Tom, are you okay?”
Tom coughed into his hand. “Yeah, guys, I’m good.”
“I think you’re coming down with a nasty cough.” Ciara muttered.
“Yeah. It’s you guys. You’re too cute. You make me sick.” Tom laughed humourlessly for a short while, wanting to be that adorable with someone, maybe not anyone, maybe just with you someday. Then Tom shook his head, a bitter feeling in his throat as he yawned. “It’s the Browns game. I was yelling and screaming every time a quarterback got the ball. Of course I’m a little unwell. I’ll be good as new in a few days though.”
Ciara already knew Tom wasn’t playing a man with the healthiest of habits, but she worried that Tom was getting this bad this early. “Maybe you should talk to the first A.D. about reducing shoot days from five to three?”
Tom didn’t like the prospect of seeing you less. “Yeah.” Harry had a clapperboard between his hands, leading Tom’s eyebrows to furrow as his brother yelled something about it being take 13. “Maybe.” 
Harry resumed to a new position in your chair, with you taking Harry’s place right across from Tom, a coffee waiting for him when the scene was over like Harry always did. Ciara’s boyfriend left the frame to watch supportively on the sidelines.
“Lights. Camera. Action!” Anthony called. “Time is money, you guys! Let’s try to get this one right this time.” 
They’d been over this already twelve times today.
“Hey, I’m really happy you’re here.”
Ciara read her line back. “Why’s that?” 
Tom could hear whispers of the crew, the sound guy glaring at them in case they were picked up in the scene, and he knew it had something to do with the fact that he couldn’t for some reason get the next line out all day. And that reason, unbeknownst to everyone, was because Tom couldn’t say something he didn’t mean - feeling like his heart was locked in a cage for which only you had the key. He looked past his co-star, Ciara, and up at you; feeling so close but you were far away, leaving him all day without anything to say. And overcoming his speechlessness and breathlessness, even in just that moment, he ran his hand over the rope to say, “Cause I like you. A lot.”
Ciara and the rest of the crew broke into a wide smile once Tom finally spoke his next line, but the only person Tom was focused on was you, who wasn’t smiling, but mouthing his words back to him.
Ciara breathed, “Shut up.”
And Tom’s sure to look you in the eye when he says, “I really do.”
When the filming for the day is said and done, Tom makes a beeline for you across the greenery. You hand over his coffee to him, “It’s a little cold now, but a warm hand is holding it.”
Tom quirks an eyebrow. “Are you inviting me to hold your hand?”
“Don’t push your luck.”
“You swapped jobs with Harry, I saw.”
“Yeah, well. It’s good he gets to grips with the job now. You know, in case anything changes.” You pulled your phone out of your pocket. “I should probably give you my number. In case anything changes.”
“Oh no, yeah. Your number is?”
“216-XXX-XXX. Speaking of changes, I heard you’re trying to get your days reduced.”
“You were eavesdropping?” Tom looks at your face that bears no trace of guilt. “You’re just like me!” He pulls you close.
“Tom, if what happened today is because you’re working too much, I’m happy to reduce your time.”
“Nah, nah.” Tom sniffles, rubbing his nose on a jacket probably worth more than your life. “I’m just a bit sick, s’all. I’ll be fine.”
Two weeks pass and Tom’s no better. With the Cleveland game nearly a month ago, Tom has nothing to blame and as first A.D., you’re obligated to reduce his hours. Tom’s on the phone with his mother when you approach his trailer. 
“Don’t listen to Harry. I’m not in love. I just like Y/N.”
“A lot. I’ll keep you updated. Bye, Mum.” 
You’re so quick to skip happily back to your trailer that you miss Harry calling out to his brother, he’s his protector now that his mother was countries apart. “Tom?” Harry starts.
Tom mumbles an ‘mhm’, hoping Harry would make it quick as he sees you FaceTiming him. If only his mother could see him like this. He’d get to call her tomorrow and tell her he’d called you for the first time yesterday, he could hardly wait to utter, 'I've finally found the missing part of me’. Harry sighs as the FaceTime ringing is relentless. Tom’s eyebrows threaten to meet in the middle of his face as he clutches onto his phone.
“Tom.” Harry begins. “Y/N is giving up assistant director.”
Tom’s really not sure where Harry gets the source of his information from, but he’s sure this isn’t true. He thinks you’d tell him before his brother if you were leaving the film behind, leaving him behind.
The film is due to move filming to Morocco soon, and Tom’s well aware that not all film crew joins them when production moves abroad, but to Tom, you’re an extension of this movie universe. And Tom refuses to leave the memories of you in this filming cycle. “How’d you know?”
“I’m taking over.” Tom’s screen lights up with the glow of your call, and as bright as it is, as bright as you are, as bright as your smile surely is on the other end of the phone call, Tom’s in his deepest darkest feelings wondering how he fooled himself into thinking romance could go right for him this time. 
He’s going to Morocco. You’re not. You’re funny, smart, promising, beautiful. You’ll find someone good for you, a better pair by the time he’s back.
“That doesn’t mean it won’t work out, man.” Tom sulks in his bed, the light from your constant calls bleeding through his bed sheets. “I just wanted to warn you.” Tom nods, screaming into his pillow. Harry decides that’s his cue to leave, a glimmer of light from outside seeping through the crack of the door as Harry escorts himself. Tom musters all his might and courage to reluctantly answer your phone, the ear-to-ear grin he knows so well greeting him once again.
Suddenly, he forgot how to speak. Hopeless, breathless, couldn’t you see that?
“Tom?” You call out his name a few times before cutting straight to the point. “Do you like me?”
Tom shifts slightly but not enough to show that he’s alarmed. “Huh? Yeah, I like you.”
He sits up, but doesn’t reciprocate the outrageous smile you wear like a heart on your sleeve. Tom’s eyes are sunken, dark circles forming under his eyes where he and his disturbed character become one. You suddenly remember why you shouldn’t have run away so fast, perhaps Tom was overworking himself. He continues, “But I’m an emotionally unavailable hopeless romantic. So I wouldn’t waste your time on me.”
Tom can’t help the hurt in his heart when he sees your smile drop so suddenly, knowing it was earnest. “Tom, what are you saying?”
“I’m saying, life is unfair. And I’m gonna quit while I’m ahead. We wouldn’t work out. And I like our friendship now. We should stay that way.”
You’re not convincing when you nod rapidly, not letting Tom see your face as you play with your fingers to avoid his gaze. “Yeah, I agree.” You’re much less convincing when the last frame Tom caught of you was a shot of tears dripping down your face, as three rings followed you. Tom’s screen went black in your absence, and Tom falls asleep with eyes even redder from crying, and he wonders when he’s gonna shake this sickness.
It’d been a few days since Tom had got his shots to allow him to go to Morocco. He sat opposite the doctor on set, a coffee cup placed on the desk between him.
Tom reckons that's why he’s sick. Shots always have their side effects, and he’d taken multiple shots in one day. And now, he specifically asked for you to hold his hand during the process, Harry branded in a glinting jaw-drop, only for you to leave directly after. 
“I’m speechless, constantly feeling over the edge, breathless.” Tom explains his symptoms to the doctor. “At first I thought it was because of that stupid football game, then all the coffee I’m drinking, now I don’t know if it’s the shots. I feel like shit, doc.”
“I know exactly what you’re dealing with.”
“What?”
“Lovebug.”
Tom stares at the doctor in utter bewilderment. “You figured that out based on my symptoms?”
“I figured that out based on the puppy dog eyes you gave for your first A.D. when they left without a word.” The doctor begins to laugh softly, but Tom is unamused. How is he supposed to shake this illness after completely ruining your relationship? How is he supposed to mend your bond after talking so recklessly, so emotionally? “Tom, I’m not here to be a fairy godmother, I’m being strictly medical. At a certain point, what you feel in your mind affects your body. So I prescribe that you talk to Y/N and say everything you need to say.”
And while that seemed easy enough, Tom’s ego was at work again, and Tom was feeling far too bruised and wounded to speak to you first. Surely if you cared enough, if you liked him back, if you were willing to be distanced, you would reach out first.
It seems Tom’s pride had forgotten that you already did.
“I heard that this is the exact shit that happened in Cleveland, and he couldn’t get the line out.” Tom hears the whisperings from behind the camera, the amount of familiar faces in the crew dwindling after the change in location. He doesn’t respond. He waits for someone to take five. And when no one throws him a bone, he asks Harry to.
“Alright, everyone take five.”
“Someone get this kid a fucking coffee, he’s always on edge.” Joe instructs.
“And you think giving a kid in twenties coffee is taking him off edge?” Anthony chuckles.
Tom doesn’t care whether or not he gets the coffee, rocking side to side. He’s got all the motion for this role, but he feels nothing. All he felt was for you.
“Here.” Harry sets a Moroccan mint tea down next to Tom, hoping it would calm him down. When Tom takes a few sips, the look in his eyes is less pleading, and everyone’s ready to rumble, this being the last scene of the day.
Harry feeds Tom the line. “Baby, are you seeing bad things?” Tom is seeing bad things. A life without love, a life without you. Unable to contain it all, Tom turns his frustration into laughter. “Why are you calling me baby for, man?” Tom has this ear-to-ear grin but even he feels it's not as innocent, as genuine as yours. He never knew a smile so wide could be so full of pain.
“I have an idea.” Harry saunters off to collect his phone. “Don’t stop rolling the cameras.”
When Harry comes back, there’s sounds of shifting erupting from his phone. “Hi, Tom.” 
Tom didn’t know it would be so bittersweet to hear your voice again. He wasn’t sure if he should put walls up again or if twice was the charm. Even if you worked out in the short term, whose to say Tom wouldn’t get hurt again? And Tom wouldn’t want to hurt you.
“Are they taking good care of you out there? I don’t think I took good care of you.” Tom doesn’t say anything on the other side of the line, so you continue. “I’m not a good A.D. if you’re always sick and tired, and I didn’t want to see you any less, which was selfish of me, so I didn’t change your schedule.” You sigh as you admit why you left. “When you asked, though, I swear I was gonna do it, but then I heard you liked me, and I got carried away. I had to remove myself from the situation to do what’s best for you. Do you understand me? I did it for you.”
“I, uh, I got a diagnosis.” Tom stumbles.
“Oh my gosh, are you seriously sick?”
“I’m speechless. Over the edge, breathless.” Tom laughed dryly, finally feeling like he can choose an ending.
“What did they say it was?”
“Lovebug.” Harry smiles softly at his brother.
Your laugh is like nectar entering Tom’s ear.
“I might just love you way too much, Y/N.”
“Are you sure you’re doin’ okay?” Tom tries his best not to sound dejected that you didn’t say it back, knowing he’s already felt the brunt of this heartache already.
“I just miss you, that’s all.”
“I miss you too. I love you.” Joe stops recording, and Harry lowly whispers ‘take.fucking.five.’ as he and the crew creep away from Tom’s new found love scene. 
“Anthony, can I borrow your phone?” Harry begins to type Nikki’s number as soon as Anthony gives over the phone. “Mum, Tom just told the first A.D. he’s in love with them so guess who’s out of a job?”
Tom knows why he’s sick. He used to feel like love was trudging up a high hill he couldn’t come down from, where every beat of heart was feeling like an ache on an open wound. Tom had yet to meet a lover to prove distance makes the heart grow fonder, finding himself in six month long entanglements and illusions of love before things inevitably went sour. But now, Tom has found you.

“I don’t want to see that happening anymore. If I have to ask you again you’ll be fired,” Mr. Carrington said peremptorily. 
You nodded your head, clutching the iPad in your arms tighter to keep yourself from fidgeting, “Of course, Mr-”
“Excuse me?”
Your shoulders relaxed the slightest bit when you heard the voice of your girlfriend, her heels clicking on the floor until she was standing beside you, a few feet away, “Why are you trying to fire my PA?”
“Fallon, she comes out in almost every single one of the photos that the press takes of you. She is not your babysitter. It’s ridiculous, a quarter of the articles that have been written about you in the past five months have been speculating that the reason you broke up with Michael was because (Y/n) drove you apart and-”
“What is your point, Daddy?” Fallon challenged, her arms crossed. “She’s my personal assistant, her entire job is following me around.”
“Going to clubs, parties, and galas with you is not in her job description,” He said, jaw clenched and brow furrowed. “She doesn’t need to be there.”
You felt uneasy, the two of them talking about you as if you weren't even there.
“No, but I want her there. There’s no harm in befriending your staff,” Fallon said simply, eyebrows raised, as if she wanted him to argue with her because she knew she would win.
“Fallon-”
“I’m the one who gives her a paycheck, so it isn’t up to you. I’m not having this conversation again,” She left Blake with no room to say anything else, her eyes flicking to you for a moment. “(Y/n), go get me a coffee and come up to my room so we can discuss the schedule for this weekend.”
“Yes, Ms Carrington,” you nodded, taking your leave before either of them could say anything more to you or each other.
You made it to Fallon’s room five minutes later. You’d taken a bit longer in the kitchen because you had to bug one of the chefs so they would give you a croissant for Fallon.
You knocked on the door with your knuckles, waited two seconds, and then opened the door to see Fallon in one of the lounge chairs in the corner of her room, doing something on her phone, “You took a long time to get here,” She said without looking up.
“Sorry, I was getting you a croissant,” You walked over and placed the plate on the low table that stood in between the two chairs before taking your usual seat from when the two of you went over her schedule, on her bed bench that was at the foot of her bed.
Fallon slid her phone underneath one of her thighs and smiled softly at you as she took the plate into her lap so she could eat the baked good, “Thank you.”
“It’s nothing,” You shook your head with a small blush spreading on your cheeks from the way that she looked at you, unlocking your iPad and pulling up the schedule. “Your father has two meetings scheduled for you this weekend, one Saturday and one Sunday-” “Cancel the one on Sunday, he knows I don’t take more than one meeting during the weekend unless it’s urgent,” She interrupted before taking a bite out of her croissant.
“Okay, Sam requested that I add ‘go to the mall with Sam’ on your schedule, so I fit it after the meeting on Saturday, but of course, if you want it to be cancelled I can always do that. Steven asked that I make a dinner reservation for him, you, and Sam, for the Seafood Room on Saturday night-”
Fallon interrupted you, once again, with noises of protest as she tried to swallow the bit of croissant she had in her mouth quickly, “Not happening, you know Saturday night is our night.”
“I know, but you haven’t gone out to dinner with them in two months, and besides it’s almost Steven’s birthday.”
“I don’t care, cancel the reservation,” Fallon said sternly, placing the plate back on the table once she had finished crossing her legs at the ankles.
You sighed and nodded, “Alright, and finally, Sunday is the banquet for the children’s organization I told you about on Monday.”
Fallon’s eyebrows furrowed at the way you said it, “But?”
“I don’t think it’s a good idea for me to go with you,” You bit the inside of your lip, nervous for the reaction she was going to have.
She scoffed and rolled her eyes, “You have to stop letting my father get to you.”
“He’s right though,” You shook your head, opening a tab to search up her name. “Look, there’s articles about us all over the internet.”
“When will you learn that I don’t give a damn about what the press says? I’ve been scrutinized by them since I was a child, I can handle it. I don’t care if they call me lonely and desperate or if they say that you’re trying to ‘befriend’ me for money or whatever it is they’re coming up with.”
“You read that one?” You asked, a wince on your features.
Fallon sighed, looking between your eyes before standing up and going to sit beside you, taking the iPad from your hands and putting it behind her so she could take one of your hands in her own, “Do the articles bother you?”
You bit the inside of your lip again, nervous habit, before speaking, “Kind of.”
“Okay,” Fallon nodded, trying to think of a solution. “I know you aren’t used to this stuff and keeping us a secret is probably really stressful for you... If doing this - us, is too much, I understand-”
You frowned and shook your head, tears pooling in your eyes at the idea of what she was trying to say, “No, I love you, I love us. Stupid articles are nothing, I can ignore them.”
“I don’t want you upset over this stuff, baby,” Fallon frowned a bit and reached the hand she wasn’t holding yours with up to cup your cheek, running her finger along your cheekbone. “Although I don’t exactly think you should be reading these articles, I know you do whatever you want, but if you read one that bothers you, you come to me and I’ll make the calls I need to get it taken down, okay?”
“Yes, darling,” You smiled softly and nodded, leaning into her hand.
Fallon smiled, “For now I rather enjoy no one knowing about us. It’s so private and I guess it feels more intimate in a way? But, I do eventually want to announce that we’re dating, so I want to tackle these issues now so you’re hopefully much more comfortable in the future.”
“Really?”
“Of course, baby,” She smiled softly and leaned forward to kiss you languidly.
You sighed into the kiss before she pulled away slowly and kissed the corner of your mouth before sitting back, “So, I’m either going with you, or I’m not going at all. It’s a shame that all those children will have to suffer the consequences of your decision,” She said, making a face.
You rolled your eyes, and ducked your head to hide your smile, “Fine, I’ll go, asshole.”
Fallon grinned and clapped her hands, she had known she was going to get her way, but was happy that you weren’t miserable about it, “Thank you.”
“Anything for you, my love.”

Your brow furrowed when you got a call from Fallon at around 5:30 while you were out running an errand for her. She was supposed to be in a late meeting with her father, Jeff Coulby, and a few investors for Carrington Atlantic, an odd and dangerous mix of people.
You answered the call and heard it connect to the bluetooth of the car, “Hello?”
“Can you come get me? Please,” Fallon asked, her voice sounding a bit shaky on the other line.
“Yes, of course, where are you?”
...
You pulled into a parking spot on the side of the road of the address Fallon gave you, “Okay, I’m here, babe. Can I hang up now?”
Fallon let out an ‘mhm’ and ended the call, and it took you 30 seconds to see her walking out from between two buildings towards your car, which you unlocked and waited for her to get into the passenger seat and close the door before you spoke.
“Are you okay?” You asked, outstretching your hand and tilting her head towards yours when she wouldn’t look at you.
“‘M fine,” She nodded, her eyes watering.
“Okay I get that you didn’t want to talk about it over the phone but don’t think for a second that I’m believing that crap. You look like a kicked puppy.”
She groaned and closed her eyes for a moment, “There were no investors. Just Daddy and Jeff-”
“Hold on, since when do they tolerate each other?” You asked, resting a hand on her knee.
“I don’t know but they apparently do now. Or at least, when it’s convenient,” You could almost hear her roll her eyes as you turned forward again to pull out of your parking space.
“What did they do?” You urged her on and took your hand off her leg to put it on the center console, but she quickly grabbed it and laced her fingers with yours before putting your hand in her lap.
“They cornered me about something I leaked to the press, not Crystal related this time, and- the whole thing was really embarrassing, I don’t really want to get into it right now.”
You squeezed her hand gently and nodded, “Okay, that’s perfectly fine. Though I have to say I had no idea you leaked something, I haven’t checked any articles in like, two days.”
Fallon chuckled, “Oh boy, just wait til you read these.”

“Screw you, I’m not going anywhere. I need to talk to you about the C-R-A-Z- why does the crazy lady have a gun?” Fallon asked, her jaw slack.
You were on your way to follow Fallon into the dining room, but stopped when you heard what was going on. You turned on your heel, quickly and quietly walking towards where you knew Fallon kept her gun.
“She’s not crazy, she’s been faking her brain injury,” Crystal replied calmly.
“Why fake such a miserable life? Actually- that’s a rhetorical question. I think I know exactly why. I think you’ve been faking lots of things.”
“Sit down,” Claudia said, gun pointed at Fallon.
“You never had a brain injury, did you Claudia?” Fallon asked, shaking her head.
“Of course I did, I almost died,” She said quickly.
“That’s true, she and Mathew were in a terrible car accident,” Steven interjected.
Crystal cut in, too, “I remember it.”
“I bet,” Claudia spat before turning her head back to Fallon. “That was the night I found out he was cheating on me, I just didn’t know who the other woman was.”
“All you knew was that one minute your husband was cheating, the next he wasn’t going anywhere because he had to take care of you, and then you got better,” Fallon said with a raised eyebrow.
...
When you got close enough again to be able to hear, you heard Fallon speaking, “Girls can be engineers, too, Dad. When I was a kid I told you I wanted to be one so you introduced me to Mathew, who told me his wife was an engineer. That was before your accident, of course.”
You smiled to yourself as you listened, God you loved her. You clicked the safety of her handgun off, just waiting for the right moment to come in.
“You killed him, you killed Mathew,” You heard Crystal say.
“No, I loved him. You killed him,” Claudia replied, which made you furrow your brow and you almost let out a scoff at how ridiculous this lady was. “He told me he was leaving me even though I was sick.”
“Even though you were faking it,” Fallon corrected.
“He didn’t know that. You took him from me, and once this snake ran me over, I saw my chance to do something about it-”
“I don’t mean to interrupt,” You said, stepping into the room, the barrel of the gun pointed straight at Claudia, using one hand to aim and the other hand used to steady the gun, just like Fallon taught you. “but I think you guys have let her pity party run for too long.”
And with that, Claudia faltered and you took your shot, shooting the gun right out of her hand before giving Fallon her gun, “I think this is for you.” Fallon smiled proudly and took it, taking her aim at Claudia, who was not left defenseless, “I wouldn’t try anything,” She said with a smirk once she saw Crystal pick up the gun Claudia had been pointing at her. “Not sure if you’ll be able to pull it off as well as you pulled off the brain injury.”

The house was cold and uninviting. An eerie silence echoed throughout the property. You followed the police officer ahead of you into the room the victim lay, Nick a couple of steps behind you.
The police officer gestured to the body “We’ll be outside. Call if you need us.” and with that they were gone.
You looked around the study for a moment. “Interesting house layout.” you commented
Nick agreed “Study leads into the bedroom. No living area.”
“Maybe studying was his way of life.”
The man laughed and started to snap pictures of the man in his desk chair. Taking another look you could clearly see the gunshot wound to his head. “It was reported an hour ago right?”
The man nodded “yeah. Reported when neighbours heard the shots. Officers were the first to find his body, still waiting on Superdave to arrive.”
“Poor guy.” you snapped pictures of the photo frames nearby. The shelves looked like they’d been rummaged through. “Looks like he was close with who I can only assume were his parents.”
“He’s really young too. Officer said twenty three.”
“Nice place for a twenty three year old.” you commented “A big collection too. You don’t often see someone this young with material like this.” you gestured to some books on the shelf. “You’ve got it covered here?”
Nick nodded “Yeah, yeah. You take the bedroom.”
You moved across the room through the door into the bedroom. You took in your surroundings and snapped pictures. The man had lived what seemed to be a very clean, and organised lifestyle.
You noticed a drawer in the bedside table open, taking a picture of it, you carefully moved towards it and opened it. Snapping a picture of the inside you noticed that it was unorganised, a huge contrast to the rest of the room. You contemplated moving through to the previous room to grab print powder when you noticed that the wardrobe door was slightly ajar. You could have sworn it wasn’t when you’d come into the room.
Looking through the photos on your camera a cold chill went through your spine “Nick it looks like we have a ghost in here.” you nervously called. But just as the words left your mouth an arm was around your neck and you were being pushed harshly into the wall. 
You fought against the man’s grasp and he tugged at your camera that was around your neck to bring you close to him. Wrapping his arm around your neck he squeezed, slowly cutting off your air. Kicking and scratching at the man you finally got free and called for Nick. You were unsure if he even heard you.
The man grabbed you again and pushed you harshly to the floor. You felt a vase smash beneath you on your way down, it must have been knocked over in the struggle. You got to your feet and attempted to move away again.
“Y/N?” Nick instantly reached for his gun when he saw the sight in front of him but instead of drawing it he rushed to break up the fight. 
Amongst the struggle between the three you were pushed into the wall and hit your head. Sinking to the floor the realisation your legs and hand were bleeding settled in even though the fight before you was still underway.
Nick pushed the man into a corner and drew his gun. “Hands up. I said hands up.” The man obliged and Nick called for the officers. “Smart move pal.” Nick spat as two officers dragged him away. 
The original officer who’d shown you into the property hung back to talk to Nick. “I’m sorry, we did a sweep of the property but-”
“Well now you know for next time to do it better.” he came across slightly patronising “I’m sorry I didn’t mean it like that. Accidents happen, just don’t let it happen again.”
“I understand.” was all the officer said before disappearing. 
Nick quickly made his way over to you. “Y/N? You good?” he took in your features, you were really beat up.
“I’ve been better.” you tried to laugh but it sounded pathetic.
“The first aid kit’s in the other room let me grab it.” The man pushed some hair behind your ear before running into the next room and returning with the first aid supplies. “Now let’s see what I can do before we get you some real medical help shall we.”
You laughed.
“Alright. Show me your hand I can see it’s bleeding.”
You obliged “I cut it on the vase. I think. Also got my leg too but I haven’t checked it out… I’m scared too. It feels bad.” 
He nodded “Your hand doesn’t look too bad just some scrapes.” he gestured to your trouser leg “May I?” you nodded and he rolled it up.
You winced at the pain and he apologised “It’s ok.” you squeeze your eyes tight. How bad is it?” you could feel the warm wetness on your knee.
“It’s not nothing. I’ll clean it up a little but I think you have some glass in there. I don’t want to mess with it too much but I’ll do my best.”
“Thank you.”
The man got to work on your knee. During a particularly painful part you reached up and grabbed his shoulder. The man allowed you to squeeze it.
“Alright that’s all done. Anything else?”
“I hit my head pretty bad.” you admitted “It hurts a lot.” the splitting pain from initially hitting it had eased slightly but it was still bad. 
“Feel sick? Drowsy?”
“No, it just hurts.” 
“Alright.” he nodded to himself “What a ghost hey?”
You genuinely laughed this time. 
“Now that’s what I like to see. Alright, let’s get you to the hospital.”
“The scene-”
“We technically can’t take it anymore because of this little…” he words trailed off.
“Yeah, yeah I knew that.” you shook your head “I’m sorry I just forgot.”
“Hey, don’t be sorry.”  He gave you a sad smile as he packed away the supplies. “Ready to stand?”
You nodded “I might need some help” The man got to his own feet in front of you.
“That’s ok.” he put his hands out and you took them gratefully. “On three. One, two, three.”
On his count you got to your feet and he supported you. As you stood you attempted to take some uneasy steps.
“It’s alright I’ve got you.” he reassured. 
You smiled as he slipped a bag strap over his shoulder. “We’ll stop at the hospital first then go back to the lab.”
“Sounds good to me.” 
The man kept you close and supported you as you walked out to the car, he helped you into the passenger's seat before throwing his kit into the trunk and slipping into the driver's seat.
The journey to the hospital was quiet, and he kept looking at you throughout to make sure you were awake and ok. Although you said you were fine he couldn’t help but worry.
Nick parked up the car and was at your side instantly opening the door and helping you out. He sat you down in the waiting area before registering you into the emergency room it didn’t take long for someone to call you into a room. Nick stayed silent and by your side the entire time, watching the Doctor clean and dress the wound appropriately.
“That’s you all set. I’d suggest staying away from heavy work or even taking the rest of the day off. Rest the leg and let it heal.”
And with that you were being sent away from the busy emergency room. 
“Back to the lab or home?” Nick offered, knowing which you would pick.
“Lab. I need to make myself useful in some way. Even if it’s just looking at footage or research.”
“Thought so.” he smiled “You just won’t stop will you?”
“Stopping isn’t in my nature.”
“You know they’re going to try and force you to take time off and give you the ‘don’t push yourself’ talk right?”
“I know I just can’t be home alone. I feel like I’m wasting my time.”
“I get that.” there was a pause “but seriously if you need some time off and want company take it and I’ll take some time as well.”
You took a second and thought it over “I can’t ask you to do that.” 
“Yes you can.” he laughed “We’ll get some take out and watch a movie.”
“Only if I can pick. The last movie we watched was terrible.”
“In my defence Greg picked out that movie.”
“True. We have another movie night with him tomorrow so you better pick a good one.” you teased.
“Only the finest.”

Jin- cherry blossom festival date
you hold each other’s hand as you walked through the town
you looked around spotting all of the empty trees
are now full of cherry blossoms
you and jin came to see the lovely bright flowers and to take lots of couple photos
finished with our mini photoshoot, you went through your camera to review the pics
when a cherry blossom falls on your head
you don’t notice as you’re too busy scrolling through the pictures
jin laughs at you unaware of the flower on top of your head
he picks it from your head to show you
then places it behind your ear and kisses your forehead
smiling as you continued to walk through the festival

Suga- movie date and pizza
a casual date at suga’s place
as you scrolled through the list of movies on netflix, suga called the nearby pizza restaurant for delivery, ordering your favorite toppings and soda
you still haven’t found a movie
by this time he’s already placed the order so he makes his way on the couch sitting beside you
you decided to play a scary movie thinking it wouldn’t be too scary to watch

V- everland date
tae loves rollercoasters
so this friendly amusement park was the perfect spot for your date
you rode the bus to get to everland
you guys bought animal headbands to wear
tae got a giraffe one, while you got a yellow flower one
you and tae took some wacky pictures
before finally making your way to one of the rides
you held tae’s hand as you walked throughout the park
you guys stayed there for hours
even as the night got darker…
it wasn’t until the park was about to close that you made your way towards the exit

Jungkook- night train ride to Gangneung to watch the sunrise
jungkook wanted to surprise you by planning what he deemed the “best date ever”
wanted to show you his romantic and spontaneous side
so he secretly bought ktx train tickets to depart from seoul and arrive in gangneung
he picked you up from your house around 1 am and took the bus to seoul station
you kept asking him where he was taking you, and he kept telling you that you’d see when you got there, as you played so many horror scenarios in your head
you trust your boyfriend and that he wouldn’t do anything to harm you
the train ride was 2 hours long, so you ended up falling asleep on jungkook’s shoulder, while he also took a small nap, his head on top of yours
a few hours later, you finally arrive at the location
he holds your hand and leads the way to the beach
you guys are at gangneung beach! you thought excitedly. “wait. why are we here at almost 4 in the morning?” you furrowed.
“we’re gonna watch the sunrise together,” he smiles while watching the small current of waves. you both stare into the ocean as the sky gradually brightens and the sun slowly rises.
this was one of the best dates you’ve ever had, you smiled thinking to yourself.

TEN HOURS EARLIER
“And… post!” Charlie taps his phone, grinning brightly.
Owen cheers from behind him, his voice meshing into the humdrum of the bar they’re currently at. “I’m so proud of you!”
His friend laughs, spinning around in the bar stool to face him. “She’ll finally understand what it feels like!”
Owen nods frantically, taking another sip of the drink in his hand.
Charlie copies his movement – a part of him knows that he is absolutely hammered, but the bigger part of him doesn’t care. He’s had a long day, and he deserves this.
Besides, how else would he and his best friend have thought of this wonderful plan if they didn’t have a billion drinks in their system?
PRESENT
A knock on the door pulls Y/N from her thoughts. “Come in!” She yells, but her voice comes out feeble and hoarse, probably from all the crying she’s been doing for the past hour.
As the door swings open, her best friend, Savannah, pokes her head in. “Hey, babe. You all right?”
Y/N sniffs. “M’fine.”
Savannah enters the room, closing the door softly behind her. She walks to the window, opening the curtains, and Y/N groans when light floods into the previously dark room.
She sits on the bed beside Y/N, and Y/N rests her head on her shoulder as she pulls the covers up to cover their bodies.
“I’m sure that they’re not dating.” Savannah says, wrapping an arm around her best friend.
Y/N chuckles sadly. “You don’t have to lie to make me feel better, Sav. I mean, in the photo, he was kissing her cheek. Literally. And he put a heart between them.”
Savannah sighs. “That’s so not Charlie, you know… kissing random girls in bars and posting pictures with them.”
“Yeah, that’s so not Charlie, because she’s not a random girl. Her name’s Francesca and she went to high school with him, so, technically, she’s known him longer, and probably better than me.”
“I – I had no idea.”
“Yeah.”
“Y/N, babe, just tell him about how you feel. I’m sure that he likes you too.”
“If he liked me, then he wouldn’t be kissing Francesca!”
Y/N exhales, as Savannah gulps, not knowing what to respond. “Y/N, I – I swear, he’s crazy about you. I don’t know what happened between last Friday and today, but I swear – the Charlie that I know – has eyes for no one but you.”
Y/N rolls her eyes, feeling a pang in her heart at Savannah’s words. “Savannah, we kissed and then he ghosted me for a day and now he’s posting pictures of him kissing another girl! I think he has eyes for everyone!”
Savannah bites her lower lip, not knowing what to respond, again. Her best friend feels tears prick at the back of her eyes when she says, “Maybe I’m a bad kisser.”
Savannah’s eyes widen, and she sits up, straight. “No. No. Babe, no. Don’t say that, ever. You’re a great kisser, okay! You’re an amazing kisser. Your lips are fine as hell, believe me. He’s the one with crusty ass lips. They’re not even lips, they look like… like… peanuts.”
Y/N stares at her best friend for a moment, before saying, “Peanuts, Sav? Really?”
“It’s the first thing that came into my mind!” She says defensively, before the girls break into a fit of laughter.
“I’m never talking to him again, ever.” Y/N says after they’ve calmed down. “I’m never even gonna look in his direction. Fucking asshole.”

Charlie sighs, taking another sip of his coffee. It’s eight in the morning, and he’s normally a morning person – he loves the mornings, the peace, the quiet, and the feeling that comes along with it more than anything, but right now, he just feels… sad.
On regular days, he would be talking to his best friend, Y/N, about everything that’s on his mind. But today’s different.
Last Friday, Y/N kissed him, and long story sort, it was the best thing that’s ever happened to him. After work that day, they went to get some food at a drive through, like they usually do. All throughout the ride, they made plans to go hiking once the production for season two finishes. She drove the car to a lookout, and oh, god, it was so pretty. The midnight sky was littered with stars, and since they were at the edge of town, there was less pollution, and they could see bits of the galaxy, too.
But, for some reason, the girl next to him seemed more beautiful than anything he’s ever seen, and after they finished eating, he just sat and stared at her talk about the last book that she’d read, for a while. He knows that it was terrible that he wasn’t listening – but how could he pay attention to anything when she looked like that, especially with passion illuminating her face like times square on New Year’s Eve?
She had looked at him as if he’d just grown a third head. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Li – like what?” He’d asked, embarrassed to be blatantly caught.
“Like that…” She’d said and kissed him, and it felt like he was seeing colour for the first time. Although, the next day, everything turned to shit.
Now, it’s Monday, and she’s nowhere to be seen. He desperately wants to know if his and Owen’s plan actually worked (no reason that it wouldn’t), and he feels so impatient right now, and he misses her. Also, his massive hangover isn’t helping, either.
He hears his name being called, and sees Kenny smiling at him.
“Hey, so we’re gonna do a different scene today, since Y/N and Savannah are out, is that okay with you?”
His heart races. “What happened to them?”
“Y/N’s sick, and Savannah’s taking care of her.”
“Oh. Yeah, it’s okay with me.” He says, feeling his heart sink to the bottom of his stomach.

“This is the last time I’m asking you this…” Y/N sings, wiping her nose with the sleeve of her sweater.
“Put my name at the top of your list!” Savannah sings, using Y/N’s straightener as a mic.
“This is the last time I’m asking you why!” Madison joins.
“You break my heart in the blink of an eye, eye, eye!” Jadah sings, jumping on the bed.
As the second verse comes on, the girls sit on Y/N’s bed, huddled close to each other.
“You know, I’m feeling better now than I did when I woke up.” Y/N says, resting her chin on her knees.
“Taylor Swift can fix anything.” Madison says, leaning her head on Y/N’s shoulder.
She nods. “And y’all. Thanks for being here.”
Jadah grins, wrapping an arm around her. “We couldn’t let you have a pity party all alone!”
Savannah laughs. “I’m gonna kill him, I swear.”
“As relieving as that would be, don’t. I’ve decided what I should do.”
Madison quirks a brow. “You’re gonna kill him yourself?”
“Madi! No. I’m gonna distance myself.”
Savannah tilts her head. “I think that maybe you two should talk it out.”
“I don’t think so. I need space, time to figure it out. My head feels like a mess. And I respect him and Francesca, and I’m not gonna dip my toes between them.”
The other girls solemnly nod their head.
“You do realize that that’s not actually the saying?” Jadah says, after a while.
“Don’t embarrass me, kid.”

Charlie exhales, watching his breath crystallize to tiny ice particles in front of him. Even though, he’s a Canadian, he still feels cold. Although maybe it’s not due to the weather, but due to the coldness in Y/N’s eyes.
He watches her chat with Jeremy a few feet away, both of them discussing something that is out of bounds to him. He knows that it’s probably decisions regarding their characters, considering Y/N’s character is Jeremy’s character, Reggie’s love interest, but a part of him feels like it’s shit about him.
He has no reason to feel that way, of course. He hasn’t spoken to Y/N in four days, and this morning, when he saw her after for what feels to be eternity, he was blatantly ignored. He had only watched helplessly as Y/N exited the room the moment he entered and had sunk into his chair feeling like absolute shit, especially with everyone’s pitiful stares.
Charlie’s mind keeps replaying each moment, torturing over every tiny detail, wondering what he did wrong.
And that’s when it hits him: she really doesn’t want him anymore.
Last Saturday, he had hopelessly watched her with her long-term boyfriend of god-knows-how-long – he had come to surprise her on set, and it was Charlie that was more surprised. Because he thought that they were over, for good. And it wasn’t like they seemed like they weren’t dating. They were acting just like they used to when they were dating, and he was too close to her for his comfort. They still laughed the same, joked around the same, and were just as inseparable as they used to be.
A question kept rising in Charlie’s mind, like an icicle to his heart: why would she kiss him when she already had someone else? Why would she give him hope, and then take it all away? Why would she dangle his hurt in front of him?
So, he decided to give her a taste of her own medicine, and posted a picture with Francesca, his high school friend, who he had run into that night.
Owen sinks into the chair beside Charlie. “You okay?”
“I’m starting to believe that our plan didn’t work.”

“Hey, uh, Y/N?”
The girl in question hears Charlie’s voice, and turns around, avoiding looking into his eyes.
“Can we talk?” He says, and for a moment, her defences are down again. He looks so… tired, almost like he’s going through the same things that she is. Almost like there’s an explanation as to why he broke her heart, why he ruined something that had the potential to be extraordinary, why he made her feel so bad about herself.
And she almost believes it, too. Like the fool she is.
She presses her lips into a thin line, and says, “Nothing to talk about.”
As Charlie opens his mouth to protest, she smiles and walks away.

“Okay, Charlie, you two need to talk it out. This is too much. Both of you are obviously hurting, and there’s obviously some serious miscommunication here.”
Charlie shakes his head at Savannah’s words. “She hates me.”
“No. She could never hate you.” She says, thrusting her phone in Charlie’s face. His eyes squint to read the text on the screen – from Y/N.
Sorry – forgot to leave a note. Drove down to Dad’s, gonna stay here for a while. It’s too painful – honestly, you know what? I’m still very, very, very mad at him. But I’m also missing him very, very, very much. So, I need to flush it out. Flush him out. He might be a jerk, but he’s still one of the best people that I’ve ever met. Love you, okay? Will return when the time is right.
Charlie’s eyes widen, and he stares at Savannah’s face for a while. “There – there is still hope!”
She nods frantically. “You should call her –”
“I’m gonna drive down to her dad’s house, too!”
“That works, too.”

A frantic knock on the front door pulls Y/N from her thoughts. She stops typing on her keyboard, and flips the lid shut, keeping it on the dining table in front of her.
She runs to her dad’s door, knowing that it’s him, back from his shopping. She opens the door, saying, “Let me take those for – Charlie?!”
Y/N’s heart swells at his sight as he grins sheepishly.
“So, there’s been some misunderstandings… can I come in?” He asks, and Y/N pauses, considering.
He sighs, and adds, “Please?”
She stares at him.
He juts his bottom lip out. “Pretty please?”
“Fine, come in.”
He closes the door behind him, wordlessly following Y/N, who feels like she might hurl right now. They sit on the couch, and it’s really, really awkward for a few seconds.
Y/N sighs. “You said you –”
“Yes. Yes, yeah. OK, so – I, uh, I –”
She couldn’t hold it in anymore. “Why would you do that to me? Do I really mean that little to you?”
“I could say the same about you!”
“Really?”
“Yes! I saw you with Shahid that day, I know that you two are back together –”
“Shahid?!”
“Yes!”
She stares at him, baffled.
“So…so… Francesca….”
“I only posted the picture to make you jealous! She asked me if I wanted to go out with her and the rest of my high school friends, and of course I went, and she saw that I was being a little… unsocial. So, I told her about how the girl that I’m completely crazy about has a boyfriend! And a long term one at that, too! And then Owen came up with a brilliant plan, and I guess you know what it was. Now, I’m realizing that it might not have worked.”
She stares at him for a moment, before she bursts out laughing. Charlie throws her a confused look.
“You – you thought that Shahid – Shahid, my best friend since we were in nappies, Shahid who is married to this amazing man, and at whose wedding I was the maid of honour – you thought that I was dating him?”
“He’s gay?!”
“Bisexual. Oh my god, I have to tell him. This is hilarious.”
Charlie bites the corner of his lower lip, feeling his cheeks heat up. “This is really embarrassing. But you two act like you’re dating!”
“No, we don’t. You’re just being insecure and jealous. I’ve known him forever, and yes, I am the most comfortable around him. Because he’s my family. He’s my brother. Oh, god, I can’t believe that you were jealous of him – wait, have you thought that we were dating this whole time?”
“Kind of. I thought you guys broke up when he didn’t visit you on set during the first two months of production.”
“He was helping feed kids in Somali.”
“Oh. Oh. God, I feel so –”
“Dumb? That’s because you are.”
He grins sheepishly, his cheeks crimson.
Y/N smiles. “But I forgive you. And I wouldn’t mind if you took me on a proper date this time.”
“Deal. Also, promise that we’ll always talk it out before… you know… doing anything?”
She laughs, and nods. He wraps his pinkie finger around hers.
“Well, Owen’s plan did kind of work, though.”

Before the interview, Nicole practices questions with me so I don’t get blindsided. Meanwhile, Sam and his manager, Steven, practice talking about our upcoming photo shoot for Vanity Fair. Steven is much more laid back than Nicole. Sam is free to do whatever he pleases. The country sees him as an average twenty-something. If he ever messed up he would be forgiven. Nicole emphasizes to me whenever she can that I have no room for error. I must be a saint as “America’s Sweetheart.”
There’s a knock at the door to our dressing room and Steven opens it. A man with a check board and a headset instructs, “Ms. Voss, Mr. Merka you’ll be on in five. If you could follow me.”
“We’ll be right off camera if you need us!” Nicole informs me and Steven agrees with a hum.
“Have fun guys!” he adds.
Sam holds the door for me and the two of us follow the man down the hall into backstage. Sam takes my hand as a precaution, just in case the chaos might separate us. Through double doors, we enter backstage and we’re stopped behind where we’re meant to enter. Loud music begins to echo from the stage and I recognize the song as one of Machine Gun Kelly’s. He’s all the rage now, one of those rockstars that girls fifteen and up obsess over. I don’t have much space left in my mind to obsess with everything going on. As we wait, I bop and sway my head back and forth to the beat absentmindedly.
The man says over his shoulder, “he’s great huh!”
I frowned confused, “wait, is he performing live?”
The man raises an eyebrow as if the answer is obvious. “Yeah, his interview was a few minutes ago. I’m surprised you didn’t cross paths when you got here.” He’s then pulled away by a lady dressed in all black. “I’ll right back! Stay right here!”
I scoff under my breath, the dude treated me like a dingus.
“Well, he was friendly” Sam mutters sarcastically under his breath.
“Right! Geez, he’s what? Only around four years older than you? At least he looked it. My bad for not knowing I’m apparently in the same building as a god!”
Sam snickers but covers his mouth since we’re not allowed to be loud. The song ends and the crowd goes wild on the other side.
“Ladies and gentlemen, Machine Gun Kelly!” The applause goes on and on with James attempting to speak over it into the camera. “After the break, we’ll have the breakout stars from the hottest show of the decade The Seasons of Life, Y/N Voss, and Sam Merka! So don’t go anywhere!”
The audience gets loud at the sound of our names and a shot of adrenaline rushes through me. People rush around backstage to get the music equipment off the set. Sam and I move up against the wall so people can get through. The crew is yelling to make the switch quick. Propping myself up against the wall, I watch the chaos happening. Sam leans against the wall and faces me. I don’t mind the tight quarters though. He acts like a wall, blocking me from the craziness.
“It never gets like this on set,” Sam says, scanning the stage.
“That’s because we don’t film live,” I remind him with a chuckle.
My arms cross over my chest and Sam props his elbow on my shoulder. If this was a photoshoot, this would be a great shot of us. We’re being ourselves, depending on each other as per usual. We’re comfortable with one another. To kill time, I glance around as people move about backstage. My eyes meet a lengthy, bleach blonde, tattoo-covered musician walking off stage. He instantly goes for the guitar case against the far wall in the corner. As if he could feel me looking, his attention snaps away from his guitar and toward me. His focused features gently fall as he stares at me from across the busyness of the show. A chill shoots up my spine and spreads across my face. Instantly, I'm drawn in and can't find the means to look away.
Sam steals my attention when he straightens up in my side view. “We’re on,” he informs me.
I immediately bring to focus and adjust my floral pencil skirt to appear put together.
The man from before leads us up to where he left us last. “Okay, here’s the deal. James will announce your names. There will be cheers, you will walk out together and sit on the couch. The order in which you sit doesn’t matter.” He pauses to press on his headset, “sure, alright, one minute.”
I shift my head to the side and yet again I see them, the same pair of eyes that made me freeze. I quickly snap my attention forward as though I’ve been caught red-handed. He’s not what I had expected. I’ve heard of Machine Gun Kelly, who hasn’t? I’ve seen pictures here and there. I’ve heard a song or two. Never in a million did I ever imagine we would meet eyes and he would make me stop breathing for a second. It was nothing short of groundbreaking. It’s dangerous and immaculate at the same time.
Soon, the noise of the audience dies down to signal the end of the commercial break. Sam and I are told to walk out so we cross through the corridor. Sam leads and reaches his hand back for me to take. I do so mindlessly since it’s what we always do. We wave to the audience and James stands up to greet us. He hugs Sam and they exchange a few words. I keep on waving to the audience and point towards a girl who has a shirt with the show’s title on it. Sam moves over so James and I can say hello.
“Hi, James! How are you?” I greet as we embrace.
“Excellent, how are you, Sweetheart?” He charms.
“Great! Excited to be here!” I gush as I shuffle to the side to settle on the couch beside Sam.
“Thirty seconds!” A man, whom I assume is the producer, announced loudly.
I sit down next to Sam on the light blue velvet couch. He sits back and crosses his arm over the back of the couch behind me then slides it down to rest over my shoulders. I lean into his side, crossing my legs toward him. 
“Five seconds!” James sits down in his black desk chair next to Sam and looks into the camera. He’s given the signal and he lights up. “I’m joined here by the two biggest young stars of the decade, Y/N Voss and Sam Merka!” The audience applauds loudly and I wave to all of them. James turns to us with a bright grin. “First off, how are you two?”
“We’re great, couldn’t be better!” Sam answers with a charming smile. He takes my hand and I rest them on my lap instinctively.
At the start of the series, our management and the show’s team encouraged us to be mildly affectionate in public situations to promote interest in our tv counterparts. Since then, it’s come so naturally to us because as friends we genuinely feel better when we have physical contact when on display. We’re security blankets for one another.
James continues, “you two play the power couple, Hollyn and Elliot, on the hit show The Seasons of Life, better known simply as Seasons. It’s all anyone is talking about lately! Has all the publicity changed your lives at all?”
Nervously, I tuck a strand of my hair behind my ear before I speak. “I can’t speak for Sam, but at least for me, I answer with a confident “yes!” The Seasons of Life has changed every aspect of my life. When we first started filming the first season, I was still living in South Carolina. I went to a normal high school and had to travel back and forth between here and there. Back then, no one really knew of me. I was your average teenage girl trying to have the best of both worlds.”
James nods, seemingly fascinated by my response.
Sam smiles in agreement, switching his sight between James and myself. “My story is basically the same except I was in college studying law.”
“That’s right!” James perks up, “There’s a decent age gap between the two of you!”
We glance at each other and nod, both of us grinning.
“Does that make the more romantic scenes between Hollyn and Elliot harder?” James inquires.
“No, not at all” I answer, squeezing Sam’s hand.
“Y/N has always acted with such maturity and grace that she makes it unbelievable easy onset. The eight years feel nearly nonexistent.”
“We haven’t had too many extremely romantic scenes,” I add jokingly, looking fondly at Sam.
He meets my gaze and hums in agreement. “Have to build up that suspense!”
James laughs at Sam’s remark and goes on with his questions. “Last year, during the season finale, Twitter blew up because your characters finally got together! And had that bow-chicka-wow-wow scene,” James wiggles his eyebrows. The audience cheers in excitement. Everyone was over the moon about the scene. “Y/N, what was going through your mind during that scene?”
“Sam, Jonathan, and the rest of the Seasons family never fail to make me feel so secure onset. For that scene, in particular, Jonathan made sure it was just the three of us on set so that space felt relaxed. It was my first time ever filming a sex scene of that magnitude and I was so lucky to have this fella right here to help me,” I gush as I place my hand on Sam’s knee with a pat.
“That’s lovely,” James feeds into the sappiness that the audience eats up. “Was there ever talk of getting a double for you?”
“I told our director, the producers, everyone that only I can do the scene. It didn’t feel right to me to have someone else play Hollyn. Especially for a scene that would have such an impact on the characters involved. The fans had been begging for Elliot and Hollyn to finally get together and I couldn’t pass up being a part of the moment when they finally did. It wouldn’t have been fair to the fans if it wasn’t me playing the role.”
The audience approves of my response with their loud reaction which eases my nerves immensely.
“Absolutely incredible,” James compliments. “I can’t imagine the scene being done without you two. I mean, you two have such chemistry! What were your reactions to watching the infamous final scene? Did you watch it together?!”
Sam and I side-eye one another then burst out laughing because I can recall my exact words. I’m sure he can too.
“This is a question for Y/N,” he points out between laughter.
I hit the back of my hand on his stomach, “why me?!”
“You said!” He chuckles, so he does remember my words.
I get the giggles as James pushes me to answer. I settle down and catch my breath. “Well, I had a watch party at my house with the cast, and right after the scene happened and the show cuts to the dramatic final credits, I yelled “yay! Hollyn finally got laid!”
James hides his face with his cards as he laughs. Laughs of all kinds spread throughout the audience and I can feel my face getting warm. James’s laugh is contagious and I can’t stop.
“You all know how uptight Hollyn could be! Maybe she’ll be a little more laid back!” I add with a shrug and James bursts out laughing.
“You two are absolutely hilarious,” he wipes his watery eyes. “And adorable! Please tell me you’re dating in real life!”
Sam hiss between his teeth and glances at me. “I’m sorry, we’re not…” he answers hesitantly.
“What!” James’s jaw drops, “but you two are so cute together! I mean, you’ve been holding hands the entire time!”
We shake our heads and Sam explains for us both. “Y/N and I are super close. We can see how people would assume we’re dating but in all honesty, we’re just really good friends. Considering, for example, to have done the final scene from last season we kinda have to be. We met when she was just a teenager and I was in graduate school. We’ve seen each other grow. We’ve been around the world together and since our characters are paired together, so are we. Meaning, we’re constantly together and I’m thankful we are because I’m so lucky to have such an amazing partner in all of this.”
“Aw, isn’t he the sweetest!” I pout playfully and rest my head on his shoulder.
“Ugh, can we change the whole “only friends” thing?” James begs. “I ship it!”
The audience agrees and then he moves on to talk about the next season. We say all that can be shared at the time being and we share some pictures from filming yesterday as a teaser for the season.
“Y/N, is that you crying here?” James questions.
The photo on the scene behind us shows the part where I cry because Elliot just told Hollyn she’ll only ever be a rich girl from Los Angeles.
“Yeah, the first episode is filled with drama! Elliot and Hollyn already have a rocky time.”
“No! You’re joking!” He whines, disappointed.
We flip through more photos and answer a few more questions. James says into the camera that when we get back we’ll be playing a game. The game is Who is Most Likely To? Between me and Sam who is more likely to…
After the commercial break, James looks toward the camera with the utmost enthusiasm. “And we are back with Y/N and Sam! I have given each of them a paddle! One side says Y/N and the other reads Sam! Now, the game is Who is Most Likely To? So, between the two of you, who is more likely to “fill in the blank?” We all set?”
“We’re good!” Sam and I say at the same time as if we practiced.
“Alrighty, question number one...” James reads his cards. “Who is most likely to sleep until noon?”
I instantly flip my paddle to myself without a second thought. Sam is such an early bird. The type to get a five-mile jog in by ten. I lean forward and Sam said me as well.
“I’m not gonna deny it. If I could I would stay in bed all day,” I giggle without shame.
“You have stayed in bed all day,” Sam teases and I playfully nudge him in the arm. The whole set finds it humorous.
“Who is most likely to get a tattoo?” James reads with a raised brow.
The audience “ooh’s” in anticipation. I flip my paddle to Sam’s side, never in a million years would I get a tattoo.
“Y/N, you flipped your paddle super fast. Why is that?” James inquires.
“Mhm, nope! There will be no ink on this skin!” I wave my head frantically. “Sam can do whatever he wants with his body but it’s a no for me.”
“We’ve actually talked about tattoos before and I plan on getting one here soon,” Sam describes.
James asks him about what he plans on getting and that conversation goes on a minute or two. Sam explains where he plans on placing the tattoo and when he’ll get it done.
James reads over the card and smirks, “who is most likely to date another celebrity?”
Sam, no doubt. I feel no urge to date, thank you very much.
“Oh! Looks like we got ourselves a mix-up! Sam said Y/N and Y/N said, Sam!” James laughs toward the audience.
“Me?!” I gasp, earning amusement from the audience.
Sam turns his body to face me, “why not?”
“You know, if you two dated this could work itself out,” James points out to get a reaction from the crowd.
“I’m not really looking to date at the moment,” I explain, and James is surprised. I explain further, “the show is important to me and this summer I just want to fun. Plus, my schedule is quite hectic and I would feel bad for dragging someone else into it all.”
He completely understands and asks the final question. “Who is most likely to get married first?”
I flip my board to Sam again. James starts to laugh and I comprehend that it’s the same case as last time. I check Sam’s and I’m right, he said to me.
“Why do you keep putting me?” I fuss playfully.
“Because it’s true! You’re such a little liar to say me!” Sam teases.
“You’re older!” I reason.
“Oh please,” Sam rolls his eyes and leans back into the couch.
“I’ll have to agree with Sam on this one,” James adds and I look to him betrayed.
“Y/N, you’re America’s Sweetheart! Every young guy’s dream girl!”
I hide my face in my hands and shake my head with a giggle.
“Doesn’t mean I’ll be the first to get married! I have no interest in anyone right now!” James and Sam beam as I finish.
“Ah, ah see! You said “right now,” James points at me.
These two are teaming up on me now.
“Thank you so much you two for coming in! It’s been a lot of fun!” James thanks.
“Of course, it was a blast!” I charm.
He stands and so do we. He hugs Sam then me, “you two make me laugh like no others.”
James looks into the camera and wraps up the end of the show. “Thank you, Julia Roberts, Adam Levine, Sam Merka, Y/N Voss, and Machine Gun Kelly for joining me today! Have an excellent night everyone! Until next time!”
The band starts their music. Sam and I dance to the beat and James join in. The produces yells that the show has cut to a commercial.
To hear my name and Machine Gun Kelly’s name mere seconds apart is something I never thought I’d hear.
“Thanks again for coming!” James repeats once the show is over.
“We had fun! Thanks for having us!” Sam compliments.
The duo shares a brief “bro hug” and James embraces me one last time.
Then, Sam and I head backstage to our dressing room. Nicole and Steven should already be back there since I didn’t see them on the set.
“That went well!” Sam mentions while we walk down the hall.
I hum, “totally not getting married first though.”
“Whatever, you’re lying to yourself,” he laughs as he opens the door to the dressing for me.
Nicole and Steven are waiting for us and instantly begin talking about the Vanity Fair shoot tomorrow. It’s never-ending.

“Do you think she’s going to say yes?”
“Bro, I did not spend the last few years being your wingman for you to question if she’ll say yes.”
Charlie was at his wit’s end, but he was used to Owen’s anxious tendencies. Jeremy, familiar with them too, offers a pat on the blonde’s shoulder. He knows exactly what his nervous friend was feeling. The jitters, the second guessing, the unnecessary doubt. It was all part of the process, ultimately ending with the single best word he could ever hear.
“I don’t know guys, maybe this isn’t the best time, you know? She’s in the middle of filming and she’s been so focused and-“
“Owen, I love you buddy, but you need to calm down and breathe.”
Owen just looks up to the cloudy sky and breaths in as much fresh air as he could. He mindlessly twirls the single rose he has in his hands, rolling it between his fidgety fingers. Charlie and Jeremy share a look before huddling closer to the boy.
“Look, you guys have been dating for three years and you’ve talked about marriage right?” Charlie asks, already knowing the answer.
Owen hesitantly nods while chewing on his raw lips.

“Owen! I am not going to wear a veil for our wedding!” you announce as soon as you step into your shared apartment.
Owen was on his way to the couch when he stopped in his track at the sound of your voice. He couldn’t process the kiss you leave on his cheek because he was too shocked by your statement. You beat him to the couch and sit down with a sigh. By the time he sat down next to you, you already stole the blanket he was using and draped it over yourself, holding the other half open so that you can throw it over him when he joined you.
“What?”
“I don’t want to wear a veil. It’s more money, I gotta worry about finding a matching veil for my dress, and I just don’t want to,” you explain, Owen involuntarily leaning away when you throw your arms up in exasperation.
“I’m so confused right now? Why are you talking about this?”
“While I was having dinner with my friend, she was showing me her cousin’s wedding photos. I saw that she had a veil and I realize I wouldn’t want to wear one,” Owen chuckles at your widened eyes. He always admired how expressive you could be, especially your eyes. They’re what distracted him all the time, even when you two were filming scenes together for JATP.
“Okay, that’s all great, but did I miss the part where we discussed marriage?” Owen loved how you were confident that you two would have a future wedding. He was confident about it too; he’s known you’re the person he’s going to marry since your first date two years ago. But you’ve never shared your thoughts about this major step until now.
“Oh I’m going to marry you one day Mr. Joyner. You gotta keep up babe,” you say in a matter-of-fact manner.
“Good to know.”

“And she says this is the perfect place to have a proposal right?” Charlie followed up.
Jeremy answered for Owen with an affirmative nod.

“Owen, Owen!” Jeremy runs over to his co-star who was reading through a few pages.
“Hey bud, I’m sorry I haven’t said hi to Carolynn yet. Kenny’s been keeping me busy, but how was her flight? I’m sure it was-“
“That doesn’t matter! We just told Y/N about how I proposed to Carolynn and she said she hopes that she can get a proposal like that someday,” Jeremy wiggled his eyebrows at his friend. Owen looks over and sees you throwing your head back in laughter over whatever Carolynn was telling you. Even after three years, you still manage to catch his eyes without even trying.
“Interesting...”

Owen snapped out of his reverie at the sound of children laughing behind him. He saw a small boy chasing his brother towards the entrance to Central Park, their parents walking right past the boys. Owen looked behind the family and searched for your face among the bustling crowd. Not seeing your glowing face just yet, he felt slight relief coat the swarm of butterflies in his stomach.
“And it’s Valentine’s Day! You literally have the most perfect setting for a proposal, buddy,” Charlie reasoned.
“Well it might be tough to top Owen’s last Valentine’s Day surprise...”

He figured that he’d lost at least a year of his life with the amount of stress he’s felt in the past minute waiting for your response. You were frozen in place, looking at the little creation he’s made out of your apartment. You had a little patio that you’ve only used to journal outside, but he’d somehow fit a small table and chairs on it. He had lit candles set up on on the railings with fairy lights framing the doorway that he probably stole from your bedroom. Your eyes zeroed in on the steaming plate of pasta sitting on the table.
“You-you cooked? You never cook!”
“Hey! I cook sometimes,” he rolls his eyes at your raised eyebrows, “okay, yeah I’m not the best at it. But, I followed my mom’s recipe and it’s really good, I promise!”
“I’m so impressed! You didn’t have to do this.”
“Of course I did, babe. You deserve everything, especially on Valentine’s Day.”

“Last year was really good. Maybe you’re right.”
“No, I was joking! This will be the best Valentine’s Day surprise ever,” Jeremy said quickly. Owen tried to digest what Jeremy is saying, but he started to feel like he’s hearing everything from underwater as he realized that you were meeting him with any minute now. When he looked up after checking his phone for the millionth time, he saw you walking across the intersection.
“You guys gotta go!” He pushed Charlie into Jeremy and they both scrambled away from him, throwing encouragement over their shoulders. He only had a second to make sure they disappeared from sight when you met him.
“Hi baby! Happy Valentine’s Day!” He hoped you didn’t feel his lips tremble when he placed them on yours for a quick tender kiss. When he pulled away, he handed you the rose with the best smile he could muster. You lit up at your little gift, placing another kiss on his lips before sticking the rose into your purse. You made sure the flower was peeking out, not wanting this symbol of love to be hindered by anything.
“Happy Valentine’s Day! How was your day?”
You and Owen matched leisure strides walking into Central Park. You tell him about the scenes you filmed today while Owen told you about how he spent the morning working out and talking to the boys over the phone. In actuality, he picked up the boys from the airport and then proceeded to use them as cheerleaders for his upcoming surprise. He could see their fully covered figures walking up ahead, silently cursing Charlie for wearing such a bright orange hoodie.
You didn’t know any better though. You happily walked with your bare hand stuffed in his jacket pocket, warmed by his own hand. You thought he looked so cuddly with his red nose snuggling into his scarf every once and a while. The bleak surroundings made the blue of his eyes pop that much more and you wished you didn’t have to watch where you were walking just so you could stare at them.
The wind blew from behind you, interrupting your conversation as you stopped to fix your hair and try to warm up in just your jacket. Owen scoffed and placed his own beanie on your head with the roll of his eyes.

“I don’t know why you always do this! You always think it’s going to be warmer than it is,” he scolded.
“How did you look outside today and think ‘hmm a t-shirt is a good idea’? It’s snowing!” Owen chided while throwing you his hoodie he had brought to set.
“Don’t make fun of me! I thought it would be warm on set!” You defended while also shrugging on the hoodie. You shivered at the change in temperature, his oversized sweatshirt absolutely dwarfing you and wrapping you in warmth. Your crush on your co-star grows just a bit more when you realize just how good he smells.
“You’ve got a lot to learn, Y/N,” Owen chided again, playfully pulling the hoodie down your face.

And like he always does, he pulls the hat over your eyes. The world turns black for a second while you protest his predictable antics. You never did learn in the past three years you’ve been with Owen and he’s never let you forget it. In reality, you hope this is an antic that you won’t outgrow for as long as you’re together.
“So where are you taking me?” You ask when you make it to a little clearing where there were rock formations protruding from the ground. Owen was always jealous of how good you look in hats compared to him...he might be biased.
“I thought we could just admire the view.”
He helped you up the rocks, and then you took a look around. The open space allowed you to see the city surrounding the park, and you can just barely see over the bare trees towards the rest of the natural space. It was beautiful.
When you turn around to tell Owen how lovely it was, you see him down on one knee with a ring in his gloved hands. You bring your hand up to your mouth, not believing the sight in front of you.
“Y/N Y/L/N, we have been together for the past three years and it has been the best three years of my life. You’ve filled my life with happiness and love like never before and I have been truly blessed to be even by your side for a second. You’re always lifting me up when I’m down.”

Owen was feeling particularly homesick in the middle of filming season 3 of the show. He had tried to make it home for his mom’s birthday, but with his schedule, it was impossible. A FaceTime call just doesn’t seem enough for him and he spent the day moping around until you came home.
You’d come home and went straight to your boyfriend, squeezing him tightly. He doesn’t even question your right hug, appreciating how good it felt to be in your arms.
“I called your mom during one of my breaks to wish her happy birthday. She told me how sad you sounded on the phone.” Owen squeezes you just a little tighter at your words.
“I looked at the set schedule and you have a four day weekend in two weeks. How about I help you find flights?” You offer as you pull away.
He was already reaching for his laptop and searching for two roundtrip tickets because there was no way he was going home without you beside him.

Owen shifted on his knee and gripped the ring even tighter in hands. He was choked up from nerves before, but now it’s because he’s getting overwhelmed by emotions and the love he feels for her. He cleared his throat and continues his speech.
“And you let me be there for you when you’re down. You welcomed me into your life and I’ve been better for it. You’ve been making me a better man from the start. Literally. Like right when we first met.”

Your shyness had quickly turned into annoyance when you spotted your designated chair taken by a jacket and a water bottle. It was only your third day on the set of JATP and you’d loved every second of it until now.
“Savannah! Where are you? I know that this is your stuff!” You knew Savannah from a previous project. You became fast friends and remained in contact even after that project was over. She even got you to join her current project, season 2 of Julie and the Phantoms. You both had a habit of acting like siblings more than co-workers, like poking fun at each other or leaving things in each other’s trailers. You knew her little peeves and she knew yours - such as leaving her shit everywhere.
“Sav! I’m not gonna deal with this again!” You kept looking around for your friend when a tall boy walks into your periphery.
“Hey! I’m so sorry, that’s actually my stuff. I had to rush to my trailer for a second and accidentally left this on your chair instead of mine,” the boy apologized sheepishly.
“Oh, uh, it’s fine,” you stumbled. You were horrified by the fact that you basically yelled at one of the leads of your new project. You were also embarrassed that you snapped at a cute guy instead of your elusive friend.
“I’m Owen by the way. And you’re Y/N right?” Owen asked while grabbing his things. You were still frozen in shame when he looked down at you expectedly.
“Um yeah, I’m Y/N,” you cleared your throat, “and I’m sorry for yelling by the way. I thought it was her things. I know Savannah and her habit of leaving her things everywhere tends to bother me just a little bit. Not the best first impression now was it?” Owen was charmed by the way you offered him an soft smirk and peered up at him through your eyelashes. He had a feeling he was going to be charmed by you for as long as he knew you.

You chuckled at the jab at your introduction. You were still embarrassed by it, but he thought it perfectly described your relationship.
“I honestly forgot the rest of what I was going to say because I’m so nervous, but basically I wanted to say this - Y/N, I love you so much and I’m so thankful for you and I want to spend the rest of my life by your side. Will you marry me?”
Owen tried to gulp down the lump in his throat, but it’s stuck, just like everything else in his body - the breath he’s holding, the knee that’s protesting against the cold ground beneath it, and his eyes that are watching every change in your expression. He had a brief thought that the ground has permission to swallow him while if you didn’t answer in the next minute.
“Yes! Yes! Million times yes!” You exclaimed throwing your hands around him. Owen was grateful that you pulled him in for a hug instead of a kiss because his smile was frozen on his face.
You only pulled away just a fraction so that he could stand up and slid the ring onto your finger. As soon as his shaky hands successfully completed their task you pulled him down into a bruising kiss. Your teeth clashed, but it didn’t matter because you understand that you’ll be feeling his lips on your for the rest of your lives. Owen released his breath and finally let go of all the anxiety he’d been feeling. With how fiercely you gripped him, he wondered why he ever harbored any doubtful thoughts. Everything felt right - you in his arms and him in yours.
The two of you separated when you heard cheers to your right. Both boys had their phones pointed at the newly engaged couple while jumping up and down in excitement.
“Charlie? Jeremy? Hey!” You exclaimed, shocked by their presence.
Owen happily watched you throw your arms around your friends. They started showing you the video they got of Owen’s proposal. They also started telling you how they got there and how nervous Owen was. The blond couldn’t even be annoyed by their gripes when you hold your newly accessorized hand out for your fiancé. When your eyes meet for just a second, he’s sure that the excitement in your eyes is perfectly mirrored in his own. The knowledge that he’ll be able to stare into your beautiful eyes, feel your lips on his, and be by your side forever is the best Valentine’s Day gift he could ask for.

So the CPN is, it’s from Yibo. this is not the first story of sharing/giving each other clothes but this one stood out cause it’s not GG’s style. We thought GG was just showing off this really cool jacket only to find out almost 3 years later that he used it for an OOL interview. Some are saying he was coaxing Yibo, while I do believe they are not the jealous/possessive type of couple, this year was rough. If you are a believer of the CPN that Yibo visited the OOL set then you’ll know where this reasoning was coming from.

It’s also interesting to see what was happening in that timeline was pretty intense for both of them. So Web giving this and GG wearing it as a source comfort is somehow logical. 👇🏼👇🏼 They were both deep in the chaos that was Untamed promotions + other individual projects— stretched thin because everyone wanted ( and still do to this day ) a piece of them. 2019 was wild bro.

Now let’s move on to some points that stood out with this joint interview:
• The part about his humor, this is not the first time he said this. He also mentioned it in a jade dynasty promo interview.
“I encountered my life’s greatest failure on this set. i really used to think that i was funny, but in those exchanges we had, i lost horribly.”
It makes you wonder what crew he joined that made him think that he is funny. Where he can just look at someone and they don’t even need to speak— then they will laugh. Yibo just gets him. They get each other. In their own little world.

• The part where they pick A or B. it’s so weird that GG chose dog instead of cat. How about jianguo? This got BXGs thinking if it was the time where they thought about getting a dog. I’ve heard multiple versions of this rumor, even one where it said they temporarily took care of one. That would be cute, a cat and a dog— but they are both too busy that it won’t be possible anytime soon. 🥲
• Also him choosing horror movies over art films, is not a surprise. but it only adds to the cpn that he was the one listening to that himalaya horror podcast. 😂
Other things:
• The selfie background again. I feel like, we will only get more information as more content is released with this set. We haven’t even seen it on the drama yet. In one of the behind the scenes video, you can see what’s on the table. It’s not the dog and the rabbit which GG shared. If you’ve been following GG long enough it should be clear in the personal photos he shares: you’ll see what he WANTS you to see.

I have accepted the fact that I might have to make CPN posts more frequently because of the 2019 timeline this whole show was on. i’m not even trying too hard, it’s just there. lol. Little clues that we picked up before and we’re seeing it in a new light because of more information. I am personally fascinated by the small things we find so it’s all fun. 🤍

Requested by: @lunchawx Wordcount: 2114 Summary: After five years of dating, you’re finally thinking of making it social-media official. Warnings: Fat shaming.
You weren’t the sort of person that most people would picture Miss Americana herself to date. Taylor Swift had gone out with some of the best looking, or at least according to the media’s standards best looking - men in the world. You didn’t need to go over them. The tabloids did that enough for you on a daily basis. But the point was that you were the opposite of a lot of these men. You weren’t in the entertainment industry. You weren’t rich. You weren’t famous. You didn’t have a six pack or a chiseled chest or that rugged jaw line or any of those things. You had worked your way up to being a curator at a Museum in New York - not one of the biggest ones, mind you, but big enough to where you always had a lot on your plate. You were overweight according to your doctor though you ate healthy and tried to get lots of exercise. And you had next to no social media presence, only followed by your friends and family - not even Taylor as for the most part, you both agreed on keeping you out of the spotlight, much as that sometimes hurt. But then again - you both had been together for five years now, and you weren’t being picked apart by the media. That was nice.

“Do you think that this is folded in enough? I always think of that scene in Sleeping Beauty where they actually fold them in,” Taylor laughed, snapping you out of your thoughts. When you had stopped at the grocery store to get the ingredients for baking night, you of course had seen Taylor on the magazines. Stepping out with new ‘mystery man’ it had reported. It was only her new bodyguard and would be forgotten in a week or so but it was still a bit annoying to be surrounded by rumors of your own girlfriend.
“Yeah, that looks good babe,” You’d say, looking into her bowl. It was cake night in your shared apartment. The whole quarantine thing had the both of you at home a lot more, though you did still have to go to work, so you were trying new hobbies. Baking had been Taylor’s idea, and it was something you had shot down at first considering your weight, but she was so insistant. She had given you those puppy dog eyes you couldn’t resist. Those baby blues had you saying yes every time. “No shells this time?”
“Oh my god, it was one time, let it go,” Taylor laughed, going for the next couple of ingredients. “I don’t think that you put enough chocolate in yours.”
“It’s a light chocolate cake, not a Devil’s Food Cake. I’m still watching my weight, remember?” You kept on whipping the eggs until they were light and fluffy, and then finally folded your own into the rest of the mixture. “This will probably be my lunch tomorrow,” You joked.
“I’ll make you something, don’t worry,” She said, putting a kiss on your cheek, transferring a bit of flour that she had on her nose onto your skin. You laughed and wiped it off. “What were you thinking about?”
“Saw you on the cover of another magazine today,” You said, slipping behind her, taking the chance to run your hands across her waist as you went to grab one of the cake pans you already prepped. “They’re thinking that Greg is your new boyfriend. It’s really throwing them off that you’re not out there dating openly anymore.”
“Oh, that’s hilarious. I’m sure his wife is going to love that,” Taylor laughed, not taking it seriously. Being in the industry since she was a teenager meant that she had to develop that tough skin. You loved that about her. You only wished that you had been able to do that yourself. “Oh, let’s take a picture before we pop these into the oven.”
Always the change of subject. But you gave in, as you always did, giving her a little nod. She pulled out her phone, turned the front camera on, and snapped a picture of her kissing your cheek while the full cake pans were waiting on the counter. You were grinning, you couldn’t help it. Every time that this wonderful, beautiful woman gave you attention, you were fawning for it. You couldn’t wait to make her your wife. Just a little longer. Just getting the ring sized.
And then the pans went into the oven, and you settled back down on the couch, looking for something to watch while waiting for the timers. Taylor went straight to Law and Order. Of course. You even bobbed your head to the theme tune. Her favorite show in the whole world. She cuddled up to you, hand and head resting on your barrel-like chest. When she touched you like this, it was hard to feel insecure. And the way that she looked up at you whenever the screen went dark between scenes - still made you feel like blushing to this day.
Once the timer went off, cake out of the oven, it was the only part of this whole baking thing that you really enjoyed. Decorating. Tongue in cheek, going over the layers with the icing that you had managed to make look tie-dye with different colors. “What do you think, fruit maybe? Some whipped cream?” You looked over to see what she was doing, only to see that she was literally throwing sprinkles on top of the icing. Making a huge mess, but it was cute to see her looking so joyous.
“Whatever you want,” She’d say, bending low, turning the plate to see the other side of the cake, and then threw even more sprinkles. One thing could be said for her method - she was thorough. There was hardly an inch on it that was untouched. You looked back at your own which was looking plain in comparison, and started chopping up some fruit to put on the top. At least give some semblance of it being healthy. That way you wouldn’t feel as guilty when you went to the doctor next and explained what you’ve been eating. “I can’t wait to try yours,” Taylor said, sticking a finger in your spare icing and dabbed some of it on the tip of your nose with a giggle. Her eyes were lit up from the inside out. She looked happy. Truly happy. “Can we take another photo?”
“Can I at least get this off of my nose first?” You laughed. She shook her head no, and this time in the photo, she was licking it right off of you, the cakes on full display in front of you. Your face was scrunched up from the attention on your nose, which made her laugh when she saw it.
“This is really cute. I might even post it,” She teased, tongue in cheek.
“Doubtful,” You chuckled, and grabbed a knife to make the first cuts.
“No, really,” She said, leaning against the counter, looking at the picture on her phone. “We’ve been together five years now and I haven’t really been able to tell anyone but our close friends and family.”
“Does anyone else matter?” You asked, eyebrows furrowed. “Everyone that I care about knows about you. Why does the whole world?”
“I just - I don’t want you to feel like I’m ashamed of you when I’m not. I’d love to start posting pictures of us, like normal couples do.”
“We’re not a normal couple,” You pointed out. She was pouting again, but this time it didn’t look like she was trying to get what she wanted. She looked genuinely upset. You watched her for a minute as she dropped a couple more sprinkles on spots that she missed, trying to keep her hands busy. “Okay. Fine. You can post one tomorrow if you really want. But can we just relax tonight?”
“Okay,” She said, tucking a long blonde piece of hair behind her ear and smiled. She looked happy again. And that’s the way that you wanted to keep her forever.

Your phone was left in your office for most of the day while you were working on the usual day-to-day activities of the museum. You had forgotten your little agreement with Taylor the night before, having settled back in for a night of watching Olivia Benson on the television solving cases.
So when you finally had a chance to sit down and look at your phone, you were surprised to see that it was dead. You plugged it into your spare charger only for it to turn on and have hundreds - maybe even more notifications. You had to quickly go into your settings and try to turn them off so that you could have a breath. That was when you remembered, and immediately opened up instagram. 2.6 million follow requests. Jesus. At least your account was on private, who knows what they would have done if they had been able to go thorugh your photos and comment on them.
You’d leave those for another time to deal with. The next time that you were taking the subway and had nothing else better to do. But for now, you went to Taylor’s profile, where you were one of her millions of followers, never anything special until now. The two pictures from the night before, kissing and silly icing on your nose. ‘#bakingwithboyfriend.’
Over three million likes. Comments galore. And most of them were not of the nice and supportive kind.
‘Oh my god, is this some body positivity stunt?’ 'This is literally like three of her exes put together, weightwise. ‘ 'Must be really rich or have great dick’
There were other ones that were much more rude, but you weren’t going to go through them. You couldn’t. You wouldn’t do that to yourself. You put the phone back down, face down so that you wouldn’t have to look at it, or at the very least be a lot less tempted.
“Mr y/l/n,” Your assistant said, poking his head into the office. His face was looking flushed, so that already gave you an idea of what was going on. He already knew about your relationship, but that didn’t stop him from having fan-boy moments whenever Taylor came in. “She’s here to see you.”
“She can come in,” You said with a nod. He popped his head back out and the tall, lithe figure of Taylor, as dressed down as she could be, walked into the stuffy room. She smiled nervously and sat down across from you in the spot where donors or assistants usually would sit.
“You saw those comments, didn’t you?” Taylor said. You simply nodded. “I already talked to my publicist and we’re going to be taking comments off all of my posts. It isn’t right. Any of it.”
“Can’t say that it wasn’t expected though,” You admitted, leaning back in your chair. “I’m not Styles or Hiddleston.”
“That’s why I love you,” Taylor insisted. “You’re not any of those men, you’re you. They’ve got nothing, nothing at all, on you.”

“But I’m apparently three of them,” You laughed humorlessly. “Look, I knew what I was getting into by falling in love with you. I can accept it. Just sucks that the day had come after all.”
Taylor was quiet for a moment, but then she leaned forward over the desk, and took hold of your hands, giving them a squeeze with her well manicured fingers. “You’re everything to me, y/n. And I just want to show you that. I want to show the whole world that.”
“I know. I know,” You breathed out with a sigh. “Were any of the comments good?”
“Selena is going apeshit in the comments. Or at least she was while I was on the way here. Threatening to fight some of the people saying the worst things but I already deleted most of the really bad ones. I have my publicist on it. Some of them were really positive though. You’re really handsome. Some of them are threatening to come after you when we break up.”
“Ha, like that’s ever going to happen,” You said, shaking your head. “You’re it for me, baby.”
“You’re it for me too,” Taylor said, raising your hands up to kiss the tops of them. Your unmusical hands. “So - are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’ll get over it. I guess. More incentive to go to the gym maybe. Gotta show your millions of fans that you can still get a buff guy after all.”
“Don’t change yourself too much,” She’d say, smiling. “You’re perfect. Completely and utterly ... perfect.”
