Hello Anon! First of all, thank you so much for the kind words, I appreciate it (❁´◡`❁)

If I have some tips on lineart :

Confidence on your strokes. Less repeating the lines, more one sway of continuous lines.

Vary the weight (thickness) of your lineart. I personally use thicker lines for outline of an object, and thinner lines for detailing. Thicker lines for objects closer to camera, and thinner for objects far from camera. Thicker lines for objects that you want to signify/highlight, thinner lines for objects that are for support/complementary functioning.

Study and understand the things you draw. If it's the human body, then learn the human anatomy. If it's clothes, study how clothes are sewn and how they crumple. If it's shoes, study the seams of a shoe and how a shoelace is tied. If it's guns, gears, ammos, study how they're shaped (I know it's hard and there's lots of stuff going on in a military gear, but they're a bunch of individual stuffs put together in the body to carry. Start with simplifying the components with blocks of shapes, like beam shape or cylinder shapes).

Patience 👌 Everything needs time to process and progress.

For context, Oliver is an OC who lives in Onyx City in Genesis, the fic I am currently writing about with Gold and Silver. He’s a Teal Class member like Silv, that is why he has the same golden cuffs with a cyan line on his wrists and ankles.

Some Fun Extra Details under the cut:

Oliver is 17 years old and about 110 centimeters tall.

Underneath his hoodie he has a patch of white fur on his stomach with a bit of floof on top; Silver’s however is much larger, despite being three years his junior.

It is said black cats bring bad luck, and Oliver tends to live up to that superstition by having a remarkable talent for getting in trouble and showing up in places he should not be. But his abilities for getting out of scrapes again did manage to ensure so far he has not gotten himself captured by the Council and the Civil Protection Robots, even if he’s gotten too close for comfort quite a few times.

Oliver isn’t fond of the fact his nose is pink, since he considers it to be uncool. (Out-of-universe, I added that detail to counteract his more delinquent-y look with his bangs and tufts of cheek fluff and give him some cuter specifics.)

Oliver tends to be brash and overconfident and definitely has a high opinion of himself, but living in the Teal Class and all drawbacks that come along with it (the only benefits of being in the Teal Class are that one gets food and a cramped little place to sleep in exchange for harsh and long labour) ensure he’s got a good grasp on interpersonal relationships and how other people act. He’s gotten quite adept at navigating the Teal Class markets he frequents each night, and can reliably be trusted to know who to ask for specific information or goods.

Since he has known Silver since Silv was a toddler, the two are close friends... until Silver accidentally erased himself from the timeline and took his own place without the memories and experiences that came along with it, and told the people who recognized him he has amnesia. Oliver’s still there for him with some kind words and help whenever Silver needs it, though! He’s one of the few people who are always allowed to visit Silver’s hideaway in the city (though in part also because he tends to invite himself and then refuses to leave).

The orange of his shoes is a complementary colour to his hoodie; Lea and I first considered making the shoes blue or dark brown, but eventually we reasoned he looked best with this splash of colour in his design. The patch on his hoodie and his dirty shoelaces are to indicate that he’s got only few clothes and they are in poor condition; basically a given for anyone who works as a Teal Class member.

he has neither. some nights, though, he takes a pen and scrawls in the best handwriting he can muster across the inside of his wrist: it’s okay. then he will recite those three syllables again and again, re-tracing with his pen each character over and over and over and over, until he believes them.

4. any body movement quirks (e.g. leg shaking)? 

when kyungsoo’s cheeks are tinged with pink, his index finger scratches at the back of an ear. when they flush red, his whole hand finds the back of his neck. in the middle of a conversation, you can find his fingers picking at the label on a water bottle, blunt nails itching at cheap adhesive and cheaper slogans. only after the label tears free from the plastic will he relax--then his fingers will reach for his shoelaces, the zipper of his bag, the hole in his shirt...

5. what do they sleep in?

a t-shirt, jeans, and a jacket two sizes too big. if he doesn’t have work in four hours, he might take off his shoes.

7. what do they do when they wake up? 

kyungsoo always wakes with a start. adrenaline straining against threadbare vessels, his muscles haul a skeleton to its feet. his eyes dart every which way, ricocheting from point a to point b, to point c, d, e... by point m, he remembers how to breathe, lungs trembling with apprehension and fingers tangled in the holes which mottle the hem of his shirt. once his heart stops clawing at his rib cage, he inspects the lines etched across his palms and the gossamer grooves in his fingertips. when he swipes a hand across his cheek and comes away with nothing but quickly cooling sweat, kyungsoo sighs with relief and takes a step back to quell the reeling sensation. the feeling of solid ground beneath his feet is a good sign; the cacophony of the city even better. (that’s how he knows he’s awake.)

8. how do they sleep? 

he rests beneath a veil of moonlight, tightly swaddled in the evening breeze. his head lies against the cradle of his history, every bit crammed up to the seams in a secondhand backpack when the pram of his skull is already overflowing. as a parade of rabbits marches across the moon, he weaves in and out of consciousness and wonders if the silverfish gathered around the balcony are trying to send a message. dash dot dash dot, dash dash dot dash, stop. as moonbeams ricochet off opalescent scales, kyungsoo nestles into himself and embraces knobby knees. curled up like this, his body occupies as little space as possible, only half-hidden in the shadow of twilight despite his efforts to dodge the moon’s over-affectionate gaze. then there are nights when kyungsoo doesn’t sleep, nights when he passes the hours mapping constellations out of the city’s twinkling lights. on those nights, he’s ready to run. fingers flex around the coquettish wind, and blunt nails etch reflections of the moon into the flesh of his palm. on those nights, kyungsoo counts the seconds to dawn.

9. what do their hands feel like? 

his palms are soft, guarded against frigid winters and merciless summers by a citadel of fingers and too-long sleeves. to the south, the valleys of his palm lines empty into the narrow basin of his wrist, punctuated by meandering creeks for veins. northbound travelers will come across a collection of slender mountains, capped with rings of red where they’ve been weathered by toothy thunderclouds. (this planet is dying.) the travel to each peak is no simple feat, marked by gradual calcification and exponential distress, and only few will reach the summits. but those victories are short-lived, clipped by intermittent tremors before the devastating sweep of deep-seated unease. kyungsoo’s hands may cradle the cosmos, but what good is an ark without the ocean?

10. if you kissed them, what would they usually taste like? 

the first kiss is barely that--more mere contact than anything else. at the tip of his tongue sits a trace of mint, vestiges of last night’s hasty preparation for a two-hour semi-coma of a nap. the second kiss comes with a clumsy eagerness, endearing and earnest and entirely too inelegant, but he’s trying his best. catch him off-guard and you will taste islets of artificial sweetener and the summer solstice, apple orchards in full bloom and tangy citrus just over the amber horizon. but unlike the seasons or the sun’s outstretched rays, this flavour will never fade.

Combat Pairing Analysis: Yang and Neo (Final Rose)

Although they are not members of the same team, for some reason or another, Yang and Neo frequently find themselves going off on missions together, either just the two of them or with their teams. Admittedly, Weiss has fairly small reserves (relatively speaking), but neither Ruby nor Blake are slouches in that department. That said, although Elsa and Diana stand out as the two people form her generation with significantly higher Aura capacities, there are people with comparable capacity (e.g., Claire, Korra, Pyrrha, and Jaune). 

What makes Yang scarier than a lot of people with comparable capacity is that her Aura regeneration rate will also be incredible once she reaches the peak of her powers. That combined with her capacity, makes engaging her in a battle of attrition pretty much pointless.

All of this is reflected in Yang’s eventual fighting style. With the control she will achieve over her Semblance, she will be able to focus her damage absorption ability into a much smaller area temporarily, allowing her to weather blows that would previously have seriously injured her. It will also allow her to do cool things like grab knives in her bare hands. Basically, if she can see a blow coming and predict where it will land, she can greatly nullify its impact while increasing her own strength.

This means that Yang’s future fighting style aims to close the distance as quickly and directly as possible, using her Semblance to negate any attempts to keep her at bay. Once engaged in close quarter combat, the extent to which she can enhance her blows with her Semblance and Aura ensures that even a single clean strike can cause tremendous damage. However, rather than swinging for the fences all the time, in the future, Yang will have learned the value of patience (it’s more like she’ll have it pummelled into her through sparring opponents she can’t hit easily at all) and technique, allowing her to fight much more intelligently, setting her opponents up and counterattacking when she can, to maximise her chances of landing the blow or two she needs to end most fights.

Neo

Neo is in many ways a glass cannon. She has excellent control over her Aura and the ability to output a large amount of it extremely rapidly. This means that although she can’t enhance every single blow to the extent someone like Yang can, she can supercharge a single blow to the point that even someone like Yang could be seriously injured, possibly even killed by it. As an aside, this is actually how Vanille fights if she’s forced to fight unarmed at close range.

In contrast to the damage she can dish out even unarmed (and she’s even deadlier if she uses her weapon’s blade), she is relatively fragile. She has a reasonable Aura capacity, but much like Weiss, what makes her so dangerous is her fantastic control of it and how versatile and deadly her Semblance can be. More importantly, her small size and Semblance do not lend themselves to getting hit a lot the way someone like Yang can be.
