Everything started to blur. Peoples voices were now pretty much muffled nonsense unless they were practically shouting in your ear or within three inches of you. Coordination? Thrown out the window. Hell, you would have fallen straight to the floor if it weren’t for the table keeping you upright.
In your drunken stupor, you nearly clocked Knuckles. Spinning around too fast to face him after he tapped your shoulder. Luckily the only casualty was a glass of water, now on the sad dirty floor of the bar.
It was easy to tell that you’ve had one too many with how aggressive and pouty you were getting. Off to the side, your partner was chatting with Rouge. A lopsided smile plastered on his face. He couldn’t help but stare at your form as you argue with the nearly equally drunk echidna.
Sonic rushes to the conflict, half attempting to simmer it down. Naturally, neither you or Knuckles were going to listen to him. If anything, Sonic’s mild teasing made it worse, but now you two had a common enemy. Green eyes silently plead to two/thirds of Team Dark to wrangle their partners back.
Rouge shakes her head and begins to stand up but was forced to sit back down. A puzzled look appears on her face.
“Wait. I wish to spectate just a bit more,” Shadow simply answers.
Emerald eyes roll in disbelief as he slowly backs up and continues to talk. Sass after sass, you and Knuckles inch towards him. When Knuckles threw the first punch, Sonic stepped to the side, allowing his friend to stumble forward.
As you were about to also attempt to get the jump on the blue blur, a pair of strong arms envelops you.
The result: screaming and cursing. Now you were more agitated.
You flail your arms and try to turn around and face the perpetrator. Instead, you’re scooped up bridal style. “Get your fucking hands off me! If I don’t kill you, my boyfriend will!”
His chests rumbles in laughter as he carries you off without another word to his “non friends.”
After putting enough distance Shadow kisses the top of your forehead and replies, “I am your boyfriend.”
Violently you shake your head ‘no’ and lightly hit his chest. “No you’re not!”
“No?”
“He is ten— no a thousand times more handsomer than you!“
Amused by your claim, he asks,“Is that so?”
“I know so! Where are you taking me!? Put me down!”
Without noticing, you’ve already been chaos controlled to your shared bedroom. “As you wish, my love,” Shadow grants, plopping you ungracefully on top the mattress. It bounces and creaks under your weight.
The world feels like it’s spinning a thousand miles a minute. In order to stave off the nausea, your eyes focus on a single point on the ceiling.
Shadow, completely out of your field of vision. One by one your shoes are taken off and put aside the foot of the bed. You don’t even fight it. Your brain is too focused in that speck of dirt above. Or is it a bug? Unsure, but somehow it’s completely captured your attention.
Creaking fills the silence as he joins you in bed. Warm blanket pulled over you and him. He renters your sight momentarily to press a good night kiss atop your nose.
“Shadow!,” you squeal out in delight. As if you haven’t been in his arms two whole seconds ago. Turning to your side, you snuggle in close to his body. How you don’t suffocate in his chest fur is a mystery for the ages.
‘You’re absolutely ridiculous,’ he thinks to himself, ‘and I wouldn’t have it any other way.’

Dear Sonic fanbase,
Not every single fan game has to be better than the official releases for the phrase "Sonic fans make better Sonic games than Sonic Team" to be true. I see this stupid, head-ass take every time there's a shitty fan game (yes this is about Sonic Omens), and it's ridiculous. If there are more fan games coming out than official, that are better, then the statement is true. If the best fan games of the last decade are better than the best official game of the last decade, the statement IS TRUE. Sonic GT? Better than Forces, Lost World, Colors (yes I said it), Generations (YES, I SAID IT), and Unleashed (YES. I FUCKING SAID IT). More fun to control, more nuanced level design, cohesive Sonic styled aesthetic, it's better. And that's just ONE game. Sonic Time Twisted, Sonic and the Fallen Star, Sonic Before the Sequel, Sonic After the Sequel, Sonic Battle R, Sonic World and World DX, Sonic Triple Trouble 16-bit, Big's Big World. And these are just the more complete games, to avoid the usual "character controller in a big empty test area" complaint (as though the character controller isn't what makes these games better than official material in the first place, and why Utopia and Project Hero get so much praise). There are literally hundreds, if not thousands at this point that are flat out better than anything Sonic Team themselves have put out since 2005, 2003 if we wanna argue Heroes. Sonic Omens being arguably shitty (don't know, haven't played it) does not invalidate that disparity in quality.
And yeah, there are a lot MORE bad fan games than good, but I'm not here arguing that we should "hire this man", that is and has always been dumb and misinformed on the nature of game development, my POINT, is that so many of you smug pricks are ignoring the actual point being made, that there are standards, that Sonic Team themselves actually SET those standards in the first place with the original 6 main games (Sonic 1, CD, 2, 3K, Adventure, and Adventure 2), that they have since failed to even meet those standards let alone exceed them, that Sonic fans are closer to meeting or exceeding those standards than they currently are, and that THAT, is a BAD THING. Sonic Team shouldn't have ANY competition from the fan community in terms of quality, let alone consistent competition that is beating them into the ground. The official games should be THE draw for the gaming side of the series, but because they're failing to meet the standard they set in the 90's, fans are taking that niche, the niche that should belong to them. If Nintendo was less strict on fan games, I'd be willing to bet actual money they wouldn't be having an issue with this, that there'd be nothing to worry about because Nintendo would consistently put out game releases lightyears ahead of the fan stuff in terms of quality. And Nintendo is relevant because THAT IS THE STANDARD SONIC SET IN THE FIRST FUCKING PLACE. Sonic should be good enough on its own that there's indecision over whether it, or Mario is better.
The fact that the community has accepted the series falling so short of its own standard yet is willing to dismiss fan games that meet or surpass that standard, purely on the basis that it was made by fans, is dumb, and kind of worrying for the series as a whole. The sheer belligerent refusal to judge the quality of fan games on their own merits when comparing them to official material is baffling to me.

Have you played Sonic & the Fallen Star? 🌠
Yes! I'm up to date with all the releases from the last two months (Fallen Star, Triple Trouble 16-bit and... *sigh* Omens), and just like with all the other games, I actually streamed my full playthrough :P
I actually loved Fallen Star for a while. It's the type of game that came out of nowhere (I found out about it back in December 2021 via random YouTube videos) and was catered specifically to Sonic Before/After the Sequel and LakeFeperd fans... it was the perfect game for me.
It's painfully obvious that the game takes inspiration from Before/After the Sequel and the Spark games (I mean, the second to last zone is literally Caria Valley from Spark 1 lol), and I enjoyed that. It was fun. I liked the OST, especially Thunder Turbine Act 2, that's one hell of a banger.
But I'm talking in past tense for a reason... and that's Sonic Triple Trouble 16-bit. I still like Fallen Star a lot, and I enjoy all the warm and fuzzy vibes it has to offer, but holy crap dude Triple Trouble came out a month later and it was a complete game changer to me (ignoring the fact it also came out on the very same day as my birthday, best birthday gift ever). I think Fallen Star deserves to join the discourse about the best Sonic fangames of this year, but Triple Trouble 16-bit took over the top spot very swiftly.
So, yeah. Fallen Star good, go play it, it's super nice and chill and it has funny cutscenes. It's the closest we'll get to a full early-2010s LakeFeperd-style revival.
(Also unrelated but Spark 3 has shifted a bit away from its roots and lost some of that original After The Sequel/Spark 1 identity in the process, but that's a topic for another ask... go ask)
#ask latin dr robotnik#sonic the hedgehog#sonic and the fallen star#sonic fangames#fallen star's ost is quite underrated don't sleep on it#i just wish some of the levels had a bit more personality#there's a part in the middle of the game that feels a bit samey

Chapter 5
Kiara carefully extracted herself from Jagar’s limbs early the next morning, her skin making a pop sound as she peeled herself off of him, sticky. Their motel was of slightly higher quality than the one that she and Darius had been staying at on Coruscant. The windows were not boarded up to keep out ne'er do wells, the furniture was new, and the sheets were clean. That being said, it did not help her feeling of unease that had plagued her since the night before.
She quietly padded into the refresher, and stepped into the sonic shower, putting it on a low setting so as not to wake him. The sonic waves destroyed the remains of their night together from between her legs, their combined dried fluids evaporating off of her skin. She sighed, leaning against the cool tile as she allowed the sonic to do it’s work, contemplating over the events that had transpired in the past few days.
Last night, after Jagar had fallen asleep, she had used his datapad to do some research on the Obsidian Sphere. Apparently, it was not a topic that was discussed by polite society, as she could find almost nothing on it on the first few pages of the holonet. She had had to resort to other, sketchier centers of the holonet to glean any sort of information that she could about the dangerous game.
According to various underground channels, the Obsidian Sphere was a gladiator-style competition in which the entrants would be shipped off to an abandoned planet with a couple hundred surveillance droids with the single task of locating one item: the Obsidian Sphere. The Obsidian Sphere itself was as described, a small ball made out of obsidian that could fit comfortably in the palm of her hand. The entrant, or entrants, who could find the Sphere, take it, and bring it to the exit point would be declared the winner of the tournament and the cash prize.
It sounded simple enough at first, until she looked deeper. The tournament itself accepted one-hundred competitors of only the most ruthless criminals and mercenaries from all over the galaxy, all to ensure the best entertainment value possible. As such, many of the competitors were sponsored by some of the Outer Rim’s more sadistic crime lords. Last year’s winner, Kiera Swan, had been sponsored by pirate leader Hondo Ohnaka, for a stake in her cash prize of course. Incidentally, she had also been the first woman to win.
The only rules within the game were that there were no rules. Any weapons, gear, or gadgets were allowed. Alliances and teams were allowed too, but not many criminals were keen on splitting the prize too many ways.
To enter, you had to register through the Bounty Hunter’s Guild. While one did not have to be a member to join, the Guild liked to keep track of the applicants in order to keep an eye on potential recruits.
To any sane person, joining was a death wish. Of the hundred entrants, only about a third came out alive as losers. Luckily for her though, her sanity had always been in question. She had no doubts about her ability to win the competition. She had been trained since birth, forged into a weapon by her former master. Her situation was unique, unlike any other being in the galaxy. Any other mercenary desperate enough to join a competition of this nature was clearly not skilled enough to pose a threat to her.
No, registering was going to be the real problem. While the Guild’s standards for entry into the competition were much lower than their usual for application into the Guild, they still wanted to ensure that they were getting the most entertaining entrants. The proceeds that they earned from the gambling, sponsorship, and new recruits was too important for otherwise. She would simply have to go and convince them that she would be a profitable bet and put on a good show.
She stepped out of the sonic and got dressed in the clothes that lay scattered around their room. Jagar was still sleeping peacefully, lightly snoring with his headtails tucked close to his back. She still hadn’t quite figured out how she was going to get away with entering the competition and keeping him out of it, but she was sure she would think of something. She always did.
For now, she had to worry about how she was going to give him the split in order to head over to Carajam to speak with the Guild leader. She considered for a moment just stealing away now, but the thought of him awakening to a cold and empty room made a painful lump form in her throat.
Instead, she sat on his side of the bed and gently shook him awake.
“Jagar, I’ve got to get going.” She whispered.
His eyes slid open, puffy from sleep, and he stared at her groggily. Lines of indentation from his pillow joined the lines of tattoos that zig-zagged across his face.
“What?”
“I’ve got a meeting I have to go to. I’ll give you a call once I’m done, but I’ve got to get going.” She murmured.
At this, he woke up a bit more, sitting up in bed and slowly blinking at her like a confused child. She giggled quietly at the image, running a finger down one of the tattoos on his cheek. “Don’t worry about me, Jag. The only thing you should worry yourself about is figuring out how to join the competition, m’kay? Be my hero.” She gave him an admiring smile, and pecked him on the cheek.
His sleep-addled brain seemed to get the best of him as he simply nodded and went back to sleep. She bit her lip, watching him. Deception was no stranger to her. It had been her only friend for nearly her entire life. So why did this hurt so much, to use it against him? To do this to him?
What if this is his final straw?
…
The journey to Carajam was uneventful, and by all accounts downright boring, but for the entirety of the journey Kiara was kneading her cloak in her hands and obsessively polishing her lightsaber.
Her ship, the Dragonsbreath, was a ramshackle Kom’rk class starfighter that she had been gifted several years ago, and it had been aptly named. Once every journey, it had the power to blow a jetstream of fire out of its exhaust in a billowing trail over fifty meters long. As one could imagine, it came in very useful in tight situations. However, the model was over twenty years old, and without her constant modifications, it likely would have collapsed in on itself years ago. As such, it trembled and jittered through hyperspace, nearly bumping her out of her seat on several occasions.
But that was not what troubled her. No, what her thoughts dwelled upon were her quickly closing opportunities that seemed to dissipate like smoke through her fingers. It had been a stroke of luck to discover the Obsidian Sphere, let alone get the inside scoop on how to join. But that was as far as her luck went. First, she actually had to convince the Bounty Hunter’s Guild to let her join the competition. If she could somehow convince them that she could be a good investment, she then had to make sure no one beat her to the sphere. She stared at the streaks of white and blue from the stars swimming past her at lightspeed. All she could hope was that the small amount of notoriety she had attained during her heist would be enough to convince the Guild that she would put on a good show.
Darius sat in the seat behind her. She had incessantly knocked on his door and extracted him from his chosen partner for the night, and filled him in on her plans during the early hours of their trip. At first, he had been skeptical of the authenticity of the competition, but now he was insistent.
“You can’t go it alone, Kiara. You know that, right?” He spoke, his voice breaking the silence between them. “Look, I agree that having Jagar in there is probably the worst possible idea ever, even if he does have a chance at being admitted in, but you’re not going to win by yourself against ninety-nine other opponents.”
She scowled into the hyperspace before her.
“Thanks for your optimism.”
“I’m being realistic. If you let me come with you, you double your chances of winning. People go into this thing with alliances for Maker’s sake, Ki! Plus, if you’re not going to use the Force—” “—Who said I’m not going to use the Force?” She interrupted incredulously, staring at him in the reflection of the glass. “I said that I would avoid using it, so I don’t make a huge spectacle of myself and put an even bigger target on my back with people thinking I’m a damned Jedi. If I need to use it to save my skin, I will.” She assured. She stared forward again, contemplating her plan. “The Force is the only ally I need. I’m not putting you or anyone else into this type of danger.”
He rolled his eyes, but did not comment further. She could still sense his defiance, and she knew that he was not going to drop the issue anytime soon. That was fine by her. He and Jagar could fume together as they watched her compete.
…
Yet another dusty, desert Outer Rim planet, Carajam had little else to offer than the Bounty Hunter’s Guild. Yet despite its lack of alternate intrigue, the Guild appeared to more than make up for it. The city surrounding the Guild Hub was teeming with trade. Merchants, businessmen, and artisans alike had gathered from all corners of the sandy planet in the hopes to sell their crafts to the traveling hunters from far and wide. Weapons, food, and gear were scattered around stalls in every marketplace. Ship depots with only the best and brightest new models littered the city. She even saw a sign advertising a full suit of Mandalorian Beskar armor. However, the sellers of the various goods seemed to be aware of the nature of their customers. If she looked closer, she could see the various security systems in place for the different stores and stalls. Alarms, physical locks, keypads, and not to mention cameras. Clearly the guild had a tight grip on crime in the area. She side-eyed Darius. There would be no easy swiping on this planet.
It was places like these that made her long to have the deep pockets necessary to buy every gadget she desired. She was rather attached to the Dragonsbreath, but what she wouldn’t give to spice it up with some more state-of-the-art modifications. Not to mention the sorry state of her armor. It was cheap leathers that you could find at any corner store in a seedy town. They were tough, and prevented her from scraping herself up, but lacked any real protection from laser bolts (or lightsabers, for that matter). Darius, having not had his personal effects confiscated by the Republic Law Enforcement, was in slightly better shape than she. He had body armor attachments over the top of his long leather trenchcoat, as well as a military grade blaster.
The only real thing of value she had at all was her lightsaber. Her oldest and most cherished possession. She did well to keep it strapped out of sight, all too aware of the high price it would fetch on the black market, and the attention she would draw to herself if even one person were to spot it.
They weaved their way through the bustling crowds, Darius a half a step behind her. It wasn’t hard to locate the cantina the Guild operated out of. It seemed that every billboard and advertisement on the planet was pointing out the direction to the hub. She supposed as the planet's main source of income, they would be most encouraging to outsiders. As such, as it came into view through the crowd at the end of the street she saw that the doors were wide open. She shared a hopeful glance with Darius.
They entered the establishment with a small measure of optimism. It was much similar to the cantinas on Tatooine, or any other Outer Rim planet for that matter. A conglomeration of species, languages, and weapons intermingled with the smell of strong liquor. They slid into seats at the bar, not too eager to barge in and immediately inquire about the Sphere to any of the suspicious characters.
“Apparently my contact’s father, Cradossk, is the leader of the Guild.” She murmured into Darius’ ear as he sipped his whiskey. He nodded slowly in acknowledgement.
“You don’t s’pose we can ask around for him, eh? Or will we look even more like amateurs than we already are?” He muttered back.
She chuckled.
“There’s only one way to find out.”
With that, she slid out of her seat and scanned the room. She was hoping to pick a friendlier-looking face, as she was not entirely interested in getting her head blown off for disturbing someone’s drink. Although in places such as these, one could never judge a holobook by its cover.
She spied a female zabrak on the sidelines, smiling and playing with an anooba. It attempted to tug a stick out of the woman’s hand as she resisted, tugging with equal force. She released suddenly, causing the pup to stagger back before pestering her again. She humored it, completing the ritual again. That said ‘friendly’, right? Kiara walked steadily over, careful not to appear threatening.
“Ehm, excuse me?”
The zabrak woman looked up at her from her squatting position, petting the beast. Her skin color was like that of a light-skinned human’s, save for the dark red tattoos that covered her face and exposed arms. A small topknot of dark purple hair sat on top of her otherwise-horned head. Despite having been deemed by Kiara as one of the friendliest-looking, she had a large EE-3 carbine rifle strapped to her side, which her hand slightly gravitated towards upon being made aware of her presence, and a knife on the other. She stood up straight, squared to Kiara.
“What is it?” She prompted. Her voice had a thick iridonian accent, rife with caution. Even so, she did not appear to be outwardly hostile.
“I’m looking to join the Obsidian Sphere,” Kiara explained, “Do you know where I can find Cradossk, or where to sign up?”
The zabrak’s demeanor relaxed slightly, and she laughed.
“You and every other hopeful in this cantina. I’m just here to meet with my associate,” She said good-naturedly, jerking her head to the side where her coworker stood, a kyuzo with a wide-brimmed metal hat. He seemed to be paying no mind to their exchange, his body angled toward the room at large. “If you want to join the Sphere, you don’t need to see Cradossk. Just talk to that man over there. He’s in charge of registration.” She continued, pointing to a man who sat with a datapad in a booth.
“Thanks so much,” Kiara replied earnestly, giving the woman a small smile. “I’m Kiara, by the way. Kiara Scarr.”
If the woman recognized her name from the holonet, she made no show of it. She stuck out her hand in turn.
“Sugi. The beastly one is Embo, and Marrok is the anooba.” She replied in humor.
At this, the kyuzan man, Embo, turned his head slightly, betraying his eavesdropping. His golden eyes appraised Kiara clinically, before he turned back to observe the crowd, making no acknowledgement of Sugi’s slight. Though he said nothing, she sensed he was not a man to be trifled with.
“Are you two bounty hunters?” Kiara inquired. She was eager to make any contacts and connections that she could in the industry. She would have to double check Aurra’s list to see if their names weren’t already on it.
“We are. And I assume you’re a startup yourself?”
“Trying to be. I expect we’ll see more of each other when I win the Sphere. Thanks for your help.” She responded with conviction. Inclining her head respectfully, Sugi gave her a small smile. Kiara couldn’t quite discern whether or not it was genuine, but she was sure she was being humored.
Giving Sugi a final smile, Kiara collected Darius from the bar and tentatively approached the man in charge of registration. There were about ten other applicants lined up outside the booth glaring haughtily around at their competition.
Kiara’s spirits plummeted with every applicant that was seen. All of them were various shapes and sizes of intimidating, each in their own unique way looking as if they could pound her into mush. She did her best not to make direct eye contact and appear respectful, but her curiosity got the better of her. Studying their faces, she could see their looks of disappointment and rage as they stormed off from the booth. Some lingered and even tried to argue, but karkarodon security guards were quick to flex their muscles in dominance.
As the final applicant in front of them was shunned away, Kiara and Darius slid into the booths. The man running the operation was a large togruta man, with a Guild uniform signifying that he had some measure of authority. He wore an expression of resigned exasperation, as if he was already planning on peddling the same rejection speech for the umpteenth time, until he got a closer look. He assessed them for about two seconds, his eyes narrowing as he racked his brains trying to remember where he had seen them before, until they widened.
“I’m Kiara Scarr. This is Darius Nahar. I think we’ll be able to draw some attention to the game if you let us in.” She stated simply, letting their notoriety speak for itself. The togruta leaned back in his seat, his slightly bulged eyes flitting between her and Darius, as if he had not at all anticipated finding applicants with any measure of infamy.
“Well, ahem, you’re certainly a step above the common rabble in this cantina.” He said uncertainly. She inclined a brow, stifling a smirk. The man turned to regard Darius. “I assume you were the partner that got away, that right?”
“The one and only,” Darius confirmed, wearing a similar expression of satisfaction.
“Well the thing is, our spots are almost filled up you see. We’re being highly selective with our remaining spots, got quotas to satisfy n’ all that jack.” The man faltered, as if he was not looking forward to saying what came next. “I can most likely only take one of ya’s.”
To Kiara’s surprise, she was pleased with this revelation. At his tone, she had been expecting an outright rejection of both of them. It was even a benefit to her—She didn’t want Darius to compete in any case. It was her debt, her bounty, and her skin she was looking out for.
“Then take me. He’s here with me on my behalf.” She ordered.
“Well, that’s a shame lady. I want ‘im.”
She blinked in shock. Darius’ eyes widened, and he glanced from the man to her. The resounding question that came to mind first was ‘him?’ but her desire to not offend her best friend triumphed over her instinct. Instead, she leveled her tone.
“...And what exactly led you to that decision?” She stilted, her emotion showing through her voice.
“All due respect, Miss Scarr, but you didn’t get caught by a couple o’ droids. He’s the mystery here, the one half of Coruscant’s officers been looking for.”
She clenched her fist, her gaze boring into the togruta’s bulbous eyes.
“About fifty droids and a damned Jedi! And I broke out of Central Judiciary. What more do you want?” She enunciated through gritted teeth. “Well, there’s other factors too,” he replied defensively, “we wanna make sure that our contestants can put on a good show, that they can, ah, handle the intensity of the competition. I can only take one of ya, and It’s either Mr. Nahar ‘ere or none of ya’s.” He said with an air of finality, his arms crossed.
She sat in shock, wanting to look away from the idiot’s ugly face but also afraid to turn and see Darius’ expression. She could not—would not allow Darius to go in alone, without her to have his back. She calmed herself. Offending the man further would only lower her chances to new depths.
“What can I do to earn a spot alongside my partner, sir?” She inquired softly, casting her gaze downward humbly. The man reacted in mild surprise as his tense body eased, as if he had been expecting a harsher pushback. He looked down at his datapad, considering.
“Well, there’s a certain job that's been nettling at us for a while. If you can manage to complete it, I’ll reconsider your worth to the competition and let you in.” He said in a low voice, leaning forward as he didn’t want the other dejected contestants to hear.
“I’ll complete it without question sir.” Kiara responded imploringly. She wasn’t going to let this last strand of opportunity slip through her fingers, no matter what.
The man poked at a few things on his datapad, before handing it to her.
“Are you familiar with Cad Bane?”

All Sonic the Fighters songs ranked!
Ever since Lost Judgment came out, I’ve fallen back in love with Sonic the Fighters. The music of this game is both unique and awesome! I’ve decided to rank every single song in the game with my thoughts on them! I’d love for you all to check it out!
--SONGS--
Never Let It Go – There was no doubt this song was going to be at the top of the list! You will spend a huge majority of your playtime in the Death Egg’s Eye as you get pummeled by Metal Sonic. It’s a brutal fight, but has a perfect song! That alluring piano at the beginning that leads right into the strings playing! It feels like something out of the Sonic OVA. It’s dire, it’s cool, and it’s exciting. Darn, I really wish they had put this song in the Super Smash Bros. games! It would’ve been so easy for this song to be annoying since you’re going to hear it so often, but it never gets old. When the higher octave kicks in, it feels like your fighter is going to triumph, but the piano that follows it soon after brings you back down to Earth when you realize that Metal Sonic still has the upper hand. I love this song and it represents Sonic the Fighters in a quintessential way!
Get Into the Wave – The Character Select screen didn’t deserve such an epic song. Honestly, it’s one of my favorite character select tunes in any video game. It’s epic, cool, and exciting. The bassline is even pretty cool! It’s a shame that in-game, you’d never get to hear the whole track as there’s a timer to choose your fighter. Regardless, I think anybody who has played Sonic the Fighters has found this one to be a cool bop!
Bonus Track 1 – This is simply a remix of “Get Into the Wave.” It could be heard in the options sections of the home releases of Sonic the Fighters, though it doesn’t appear in Lost Judgment. It’s a cool remix and feels like a bit of a prototype version to the final track. For a character select screen or an options menu, the song goes so hard! It’s great! I just don’t think this version sounds as good as the original. My blood still gets pumping though.
Everything – The Super Sonic theme; a song that 98% of player will never hear. The title is so fitting as this feels like EVERYTHING. You had to work so hard to get this transformation and it feels glorious. The only problem is that you will only hear it for half a round… and it’s drowned out by the sounds of your fists pounding into Metal Sonic’s face. Still the song starts with this mystical intro that then becomes this awesome club music! I can’t deny how much I love this song and it fills me with goosebumps to know I achieved Super Sonic; a feat I’ve only done twice in my life. It’s magical and just really cool. Seriously, it feels like it could be an action set piece or just some cool music to dance to. Either way, Super Sonic got a really sweet track!
North Wind – Remember in the 1990s when Sonic and Knuckles were the main rivals of the series? Well, this song captures it perfectly because any battle, (outside of the typical arcade ladder), between the Blue Blur and Rad Red will play this song. It’s honestly awesome! It swells up and down and matches the rivals’ intensity. I think for 2-players, this song would easily make both fighters feel amped up! I don’t have much more to say about it, but I genuinely think it captures this game and the characters very well!
Come On, Mr. Sonic – This title sounds like Cream the Rabbit would’ve said it, but it actually belongs to Espio and he’s in Mushroom Hill. This whole thing doesn’t make a lot of sense, but the song is awesome! It starts off with a playful, almost mocking style that quickly gets into a cool and intense motif. Espio is a bit of a difficult opponent to get through; especially if you want Super Sonic, so it’s a fitting song! This song constantly gets stuck in my head too! I just don’t know why he’s in Mushroom Hill and Knuckles isn’t!
Fire Stone – The title makes no sense to me as it’s Sonic’s theme and he’s hanging out on top his floating masterpiece, the Giant Wing! It’s a great song though and feels more epic than intense. I love the way the song builds up as if the stakes of the battle are raising with every second. It may not be the best fit for Sonic’s personality, but for a fighting game… it’s awesome! Considering Sonic is towards the end of the arcade ladder too, I can’t say it’s ill-fitting.
Black Bed – Auorora Icefield!? As the 3rd stage, with a difficulty spike, featuring Bark the Polerbear, located with an epic track to match!? Yes! Bark got an amazing theme that feels like it never gets old. The track has an aggressive beginning, but eases into a softer middle section that feels both calm and still energizing. There’s even a lyrical version you may have heard if you played this on Sonic Gems Collection. This is a fan favorite for a reason. (Yes, I spelt polar bear like that on purpose. That’s how the games does it.)
Sunset Town (Bonus Track 2) – This is an unused song! It was originally intended to be used for Honey the Cat, but because she was cut from the original roster, it fell to the wayside. Luckily, it was available as an optional menu song in some of the home releases of Sonic the Fighters. It’s a very cool song especially after the main chorus. I wonder what kind of stage Honey would have had! It’s a shame we’ll never know. I genuinely really love Honey’s design and would love to see her interact with the main cast. The song fits well and it was actually remixed in Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice. Who would’ve thought it’d end up there!
Lovers – The music for South Island. This is an excellent first song for this game. It reflects the colorful and peaceful environment of Green Hill Zone while feeling exciting for a fighting stage. It has a great bridge section and the song goes in a number of different directions. It’s also the theme for Knuckles! Why his song is called "Lovers," we’ll never know, but he’s got a good little tune!
KIYO – What does KIYO stand for!? I don’t know! But this song is part of the opening to the game. It’s a fun and catchy intro that has an energic and catchy vibe. It even has moments that are a bit sinister! I like it as it matches the visuals nicely and would’ve done a decent job of attracting players to the game to get all…. 8 Chaos Emeralds.
Try Again – The Dynamite Plant has a very playful song and that’s all too befitting for Bean the Dynamite! It’s a bit chaotic, but much more controlled than Fang’s theme. It has a great progression like you’re on the conveyor belt of a bomb factory; like a wild Looney Tunes cartoon or something. Definitely a fun listen!
Hurry Up – This song plays in the Death Egg’s Hangar when you battle Dr. Eggman. Except… it doesn’t. Instead, they just play “North Wind.” Which is… odd. If my memory is correct… this song doesn’t actually play in-game at all. Either way, the song is really cool, but it feels very short. Definitely has that self-destruction feel that a Metroid ending would give you. I like it and it’s another song that, even if it played on the stage it’s attached to, you would only get to hear a small snippet of.
Take Me Away – The ending theme is pure celebration! That little gun shot at the beginning feels like the start to this grand party! This song is so jovial and fun! Considering you just overcame such a tough, cartoony challenge, it feels good! It also helps that this plays over footage of you continuously punching Knuckles into a fence, whacking Amy with her own hammer, or just having Tails ricochet off the wall while you rocket him into the next time zone with a spin dash. You also gotta love how Dr. Eggman and Metal Sonic just fly off with that silly swing sound effect too! Good for them, they survived another space station exploding! Good times!
What’s Your Name – The Name Entry has the dumbest song that doesn’t fit at all. It’s so damn happy, but it works! Especially after trumping Metal Sonic and Dr. Eggman! It’s a bit wacky, but a lot of fun and just feels good, man. Just make sure you put your name as A.... S.... S!
Here We Go – Fang hanging out in Casino Night just sort of fits perfectly. His song is rather chaotic though! (Pun entirely intended!) Perhaps it’s a bit too uncontrolled? I like it and it’s fun, but it has a crazed nature that makes it a bit less enjoyable than it could’ve been. I’d love to hear a remix that reigns it in a bit.
Back to Soul – The Flying Carpet is Amy’s stage. Huh? That’s a weird match up. Maybe it’s the Sonic-Sphinx or something. The song is pretty good, but also one of the weakest in the game. It just doesn’t have that memorable zing that other songs do. The section that focuses on the piano notes is particularly nice, but Amy didn’t exactly get the best song. Some parts can be a bit grating especially the background sound effects. At least the song takes an interesting turn at about two minutes in... but nobody is really going to hear that!
Blue Garden – Tails is on a Canyon Cruise for this one and… I’m sorry to say that our favorite two-tailed fox got one of the worst songs in the game. It could be worse, but the main instrumentation is just too repetitive and grating on the ears. It suits our boy genius well enough, but doesn’t make for an enjoyable listen. At least his stage is awesome!
--JINGLES--
Are You Ready? – This is just a 5 second song to start each round, but I had to include it. It’s a good intro to the next battle and I always sing to myself “Espio is clearly ready to go” to this tune. It’s sweet.
You’re a Winner – The Winner’s Fanfare is a really catchy little jingle. I like it a lot as you can feel relieved after a tough battle. Your character is also likely to twist their neck 360 degrees in a sudden, gruesome motion. It’s awesome!
Emerald – This song plays when you get all… 8 Chaos Emeralds. It’s a good jingle for what it is, but I’ll be perfectly honest when I say that it’s not really anything to think about. I like the visuals it’s matched with.
Egg’s Fanfare – The mission complete music after you defeat Eggman! It’s a cute little jingle, but nothing more. Yay for victory!
Game Over – This certainly is a little instrumentation to go with the game over splash screen. It’s fine.
Continue – I really like the screen that this little song occurs on. The intro is good, but it’s probably the most forgettable track here. Not bad though.

New Paracosm AU: Big Hero Beau
@decaykid yes, kind of...
Okay, like I said in my last post this idea came to me after listening to Fist Pump and Viva Namida on loop with pacing.
So you know like how the original Humble Pie paracosm is very western horror kind of drama, yeah? well, this paracosm is just full on ANIME BBY!!! I'm talking Space Dandy, I'm talkin' Gurren Lagann, I'm talkin maybe a little bit of Trigun, and also takes alot from action rpgs like Bayonetta, Devil May Cry, Persona, Viewitful Joe, and Wonderful 101 (but its like only two people), and takes alot from Sonic the hedgehog (mostly Sonic Underground, Sonic Adventure 2, and Sonic Forces), and little bit from Fancy Pants ( that's not an anime or a "real" video game, its just an old flash game I used to hyperfixate on).
This paracosm is completely different which is why I gave it, it's own name instead of just adjective then "!"
This version of Beau takes a lot of inspiration from Dandy ( Space Dandy), Vash The Stampede (Trigun), Sonic The Hedgehog (Sonic The Hedgehog), and Kamina (Gurren Langann)
In this paracosm, both of Beau's parents perished in a tragic accident, Beau takes his siblings to an abandoned shack and they hide out and live out there. the tragedy this motivative Beau to become stronger and a hero, not only to keep his siblings safe but others too. The last thing his mom told him was that his smile could save a thousand lives, so because of that he always keeps an upbeat, go get 'em attitude, and he doesn't want to bum his younger siblings out. His mom also gave Beau her heart shape locket before she passed on, so Beau has worn it ever since that day.
The locket is very precious to him, he doesn't let anyone touch it (other than his siblings), and if he loses it he'll go into a panic attack and can't do anything else until he finds it again.
Dev, Beau's little brother, also wants to be strong and a hero, he tries to train like his brother but he can't keep up. Beau tells Dev that he has to be strong in his own way, so Dev decides to put his tech skills to good use and make his older brother cool weapons for him to use. I forgot to mention in this paracosm some people are born with superpowers and such, and Beau's superpowers are super strength and speed, while Dev's superpower is super intelligence.
Dev can't keep up with his brother on foot, so he made himself a jetpack to keep up, and makes science weapons for himself to use.
In this paracosm, there are evil robots, pirates, bandits, ninjas, demons, fallen angels, giant spiders, bad guys who kidnap pretty people, any enemy you would find in a video game or anime yeah it's probably here. So, there's always something for Beau and Dev to fight or someone to save from something.
Beau and Dev don't have secret identities since superpowered people are common but they get to have a pretty rad transformation scene activate when they fist bump each other.
Beau fighting style is similar to that of a hack and slack fighting game, Beau mostly use his fists to fight and his speed, he'll also use guns too, but he'll only use swords if he thinks he can pull off a cool move, since not really experience using them that much. Dev made Beau special gloves and boots that make the attack range of his hit larger so its easier to take out hoards of stuff like robots (which happens lot) and big enemies like giant monsters.
His boots are also guns so its like....
Oh, and Beau also makes sure that he always looks cool when fighting just in case someone takes a pic (which happens alot). Unlike Bayonetta, Beau is more playful with his posing rather than sexy.
Dev's wits come in handy when the two come across puzzles, riddles, or finding a way out of traps on their adventures since Beau didn't complete school once his parents passed and mostly focus on raising his siblings and hero training.
Much like Sonic, Beau is very snarky and witty while fighting his enemies (or at least tries to be), he always tries to make a snarky comment or a really cool zinger before finishing off his enemy. Due to his kind of being not the sharpest tool in the shed, it can take a while for him to come up with a good zinger, so it kind of stalls fights, and sometimes it gets to the point where the enemy is just like "Oh my GOD! just KILL ME!", this also annoys and embarrasses Dev too at times.
Beau makes money from bounties and doing odd jobs around, he makes enough for his siblings to live comfortably, but there are times where he'll go hungry because he only has enough for Dev and Carrie to eat. Beau is still a kind of a lower-level hero compare to the other well know ones around.
Dev has also made a rocket ship so they can fight intergalactically on other planets
Carrie in this paracosm is still 4 years old, she has yet to show any signs of having powers, which is pretty normal for her age since people in this world don't show powers until they hit their pre-teen years.
Beau will take Carrie on their adventures if it's safe enough, but if the mission is too dangerous Beau will take her to the nearest daycare or the nearest trustworthy femme person. Beau will try to make the mission or fight end quickly as possible if he left Carrie with a stranger, there's a sigh of relief once he finds her safe, if not (which doesn't happen a lot thankfully), well somebody gonna die and Beau tries to make it up to her by spending the next few days with her, just him and Carrie.
Beau tries to put being a good guardian/older brother before being a hero and tries his best to spend as much time with Carrie and Dev as possible on chiller/lower stakes days.
Beau had never had time to really process the feeling of losing his parents, there are days where he feels down but he never lets it show around his siblings or have it affect his hero work. There are nights where those memories keep him up, sometimes he'll cry but still try to smile thru the tears.
Beau likes to give peps talks to himself in the mirror, and pep talks to Dev, when he's feeling discouraged, although most of the time those pep talks don't really make any sense Dev still appreciate his brother's kind words.
Since Beau saves people, he interacts a lot with damsels in distress, he flirts with them, but usually gets rejected for coming across as too cheesy or cocky. He doesn't really mind it tho, he actually finds it funny, but when a lady actually flirts back he gets really flustered and has to leave immediately. Despite this Beau still tries to give Dev advice on talking to girls.
Beau still smokes and drinks because the stress of having to raise young siblings, dealing with trauma, and being a hero can be alot, but he still makes sure his siblings don't see him and he doesn't get too wasted.
Other than hero stuff, Hero! Beau enjoys reading comics, parkour, skateboarding, break dancing (which he incorporates in his fighting for some really cool finishers), practicing cool poses and phrases, playing video games with his little brother, and watching barbie movies with his little sisters (since Barbie reminds him of his mom).
Oof, I think that's all I got for now....
TL;DL Basically if this version of Beau is Sonic the original Beau is more like Shadow if that makes any sense.
#paraportal#new paracosm#paracosm#paracosm: big hero beau#para: hero! beau#I still have yet to figure out how Bonnie fits into this paracosm#their dynamic is gonna be more of a 'two stupid dorks' kind of dynamic#I dont think this paracosm could get anymore anime than this#maybe I'll make bonnie a magical girl#idk would that be too much

Eclipse reread part 2! This is gonna cover a lot of chapters because I forgot to include stuff from chapters 4, 5, and 6 in part 1 (in my defense your honor, this book is very grating to read). Awayyy we go:
1. so chapters 4-6 really could have been one chapter tbh since the plot is: Bella ditches work at Newton’s Outfitters to hang with Jake and then writes some graduation invites with Angela. She pushes her rusty old behemoth as fast as it can go through driving rain but then hangs outside with Jake the whole time so I don’t really know where the rain went. She also manages to hear Jake gasp through her closed car door! Super sonic! Anyway, Bella insists that Edward is a good guy, Jake makes Bella hold his hand, Jake explains imprinting (yuck we can skip that), and then Edward drives threateningly past Bella while she’s on her way to Angela’s house. Angela reminds Bella that, at his core, Edward is a teen boy who is Totally Jealous of how Ripped and Sexy her 16 year old best friend is. Then Alice kidnaps Bella. Fun times!
2. During the imprinting convo it becomes very apparent that Meyer thinks the worst thing that can happen to a girl is getting broken up with. Somehow Leah got the “worst end” of the Sam/Emily/Leah fiasco despite Sam turning into a “monster” and Emily getting literally mauled in the face. What’s worse is later in the book, during the “Legends” chapter, when Bella wonders if Leah thinks Emily’s scars are a form of “justice.” Yea, Bella, that’s justice.
3. I love this Rosalie quote but hate the entirety of they way meyer writes her story. Others have mentioned it before but Meyer writes Rose's dialogue there as if Rose is an author and not like...a person telling a story. An easy fix would be to format Rosalie's story "flash back" style rather than have her narrate all the way through. Then you can include all the superfluous details of exactly what everyone's voice sounded like and all the excessive dialogue tags you want.
I also Violently Abhor this quote here:
Yea, meyer, the Hot Girl hates your self-insert because her stupid ass brother didn't have the hots for her. It just reads like weird middle school revenge fantasy "I only hated you because you were so Special!!!" Sure, sure. Also "all those females!" People don't talk like that @stephanie
4. I do love the scene when Bella “escapes” from Alice with Jake (I don’t know why i put escape in quotes, Alice could definitely murk Bella) but then that whole adventure ends with Jake telling Bella he’d rather she die than turn into a vampire. And yeah, fair buddy, but also you’ve known Bella for a long time. This should not be a surprise to you at all even a little bit. a) she mentioned it before, b) you knew she would never get over Edward even if your plan in NM had worked, and c) you’ve known that she’s fully obsessed with the Cullen’s since you started hanging out with her again. The last time you guys hung out she went on an impassioned rampage about how lovely and good and fantastic Edward is (footage not found) I really don’t know why you’re surprised that this hard-headed girl is prepared to commit to vampirism for him. She is not normal lmfao.
5. The legends chapter. Oh boy. Stephanie, Meyer, Smeyer. Honestly it might have been less offensive if she had just made up a whole new tribe to give these backstories to, for all that they have in common with real Quileute legends but actually that would still be offensive and terrible anyway. I don’t know how to describe this adequately but if you’ve ever seen G.I. Joe’s portrayal of indigenous people that’s exactly what meyer made Old Quil and Billy’s dialogue sound like. Just absolutely dripping with Mystical Native/ Magical Native trope from the content to the tone. https://mthg.org/ Because it can’t be plugged enough.
6. The legends chapter ends with this Wuthering Heights quote:
I have no qualms with it's inclusion, if you really want to push the Edward is Heathcliff and Bella is Cathy agenda, I don't believe it but fine, whatever. But those last two paragraphs are such a dumb way to end a chapter. Every chapter ending should make the reader want to turn the page: this makes me want to shut the book (actually I did take a long break after this lmfao). Anyway, just end the quote on "drank his blood," bold those three words, and end the chapter there. Don't go back and say "the three words that stood out were... Anyway it could have fallen to any page I believe in coincidence teehee!!" That's just annoying.
7. Okay guys I hate to say it but Edward does get a lil bit of ~character growth after the first few chapters. He comes home after having Bella kidnapped (she decides not to be angry, surprise surprise) and is all "so I've been thinking about it and you're right my Beloved Angel Face or whatever, please hang out with Jacob but also wear a helmet on your motorcycle my Beloved Dumb Idiot or whatever" (paraphrase). And he also says this in chapter 12:
Which is like, man I hate when I agree with Edward but I agree with Edward here. Now I know from MS that he only wants Bella to stay human because he's creating an Unfolding Drama in his head but this bit of dialogue is really sweet. And it's funny that he thought Bella didn't want to marry him because she just wanted to use him for immortality but it's also a Dark Reminder that he's literally only romantic with her because he can't read her mind and can't tell that she's just as obsessed with his looks as the other Teen Girls TM.
8. uuuh Jasper’s Backstory Time. This is so infuriating to read for so many reasons. So we know that smeyer got Jasper’s name from a confederate memorial/ listing (from a New Moon Q&A but the link isn’t secure so I can’t share) so I know that his backstory was always meant to be Confederate Soldier which makes everything else about his characterization just baffling. Again, he was the only Cullen that was genuinely kind to Bella besides Carlisle for the entire first book and he’s still incredibly kind during Eclipse (which is another issue I have though because no one mentions again that Jasper tried to eat Bella and they stand close to each other and hang out and Bella’s never like “this is scary, this dude tried to kill me” but i digress). The point is: smeyer knew he was going to be a confederate from book 1. She never addresses that this was bad, she never has Jasper mention that he regrets his role in the war, he is the only Cullen that’s actually capable of empathizing with humans anymore (Carlisle cares but I would not categorize him as empathetic), it just... None of these pieces fit together. This is a fraught and bloody history that smeyer throws in with no thought to how it might alienate black readers (though tbh she constantly emphasizes “white beauty” throughout the series so I doubt she cares) and the editors don’t question it either. No one, at any point in time, said “Hey, steph, you know confederates fought for slavery, right?” Every black american deserves reparations. White women and men who glorify the civil war should be the first to pay up.
9. I’m gonna jump back to chapters 9 & 10 here (target & scent, respectively) to say: no tension is being effectively built. I get it, someone stole your clothes. You’re annoyed because you have nothing to wear and Victoria is scary. But where is she? Where is the volturi? Move it along, please! This is one of the challenges of 1st person narrative because the author is stuck in the eyes of, usually, the person who knows the least. Meyer is not a talented enough author to make this interesting. Not to bring up THG again but Suzanne Collins really knew how to work 1st person. Everything that Katniss asserts with certainty throughout the series gets either confirmed or denied by the narrative, keeping it interesting. She assumes the worst of the people around her so we’re pleasantly surprised when people violate those assumptions. We’re kept on edge by how little Katniss knows and SC never gifts Katniss with more knowledge than she could be expected to have. Bella is constantly gifted with knowledge and her assumptions are rarely proven wrong. You can dig into the canon a little bit more, read the lexicon and the guide, and find all the examples of Bella being unreliable or making wrong assumptions. But within the narrative she is rarely incorrect. She doesn’t get opportunities to grow out of her false assumptions (while Edward does, at least in Eclipse). So to keep the Victoria debacle interesting, smeyer has to plant seeds like- during these two chapters- Bella thinking of Laurent and Victoria while the cullens discuss who could have been in Bella’s room. That just doesn’t cut it for me.
This is hella long and I’m only halfway through the book. I probably should split the second half into two parts as well but based on how talented smeyer is at stretching out the mundane, especially just before the climax, I probably wont need to.

Amy Lee Of Evanescence On Women In Rock, The Freedom Of Artistry & Finally Being Able To Say What She Wants To Say
Music Feeds: Amy, thanks for taking the time to talk to Music Feeds. We’re particularly excited to talk to you at the moment because you have a brand new album out. How is existence treating you?
Amy Lee: Awesome. Thank you for taking the time to talk to me too. We are all just SO happy to finally have it out there! It feels really good.
MF: It’s quite a sonic adventure, this record. It presents all of the elements that people are accustomed to hearing from Evanescence and blends them with a whole bunch of new elements, was this a fun and rewarding record to write for you?
AL: It’s hard to sum it up in a word like fun because it is, it is so deep. There was definitely pain involved and challenge and all those things that lead to making something great, you know? It takes a little bit of struggle and we went through a lot to get to the place where we could write this album. I think the word that sums it up is satisfying. It feels really good to get a lot of this off of my chest. For me, this is partially due to having things to say that had been building for a while and having a new perspective to write from, but also musically, with the band, it shows how far we have come as a band and displays what it is that these guys and lady, that I work with now bring to the sound and that connection deserves to be documented. I really wanted a chance to show what we’ve grown into and it feels really good to listen to that back.
I think everybody’s feeling excited for the eventual day that we get to go play this stuff live again because for so long, our live show has been about making a great collection of our big back catalogue of music, but it’s all old, you know? It’s been a while since we’ve been able to really go, okay, “this is who we are now”. So having this now it’s going to be hard to play anything, but the new songs.
MF: I’d imagine it would be, especially given how much of yourself that you’ve put into the record. Now I know that you all went through a lot of challenges, both personally and as a band in the writing process, with some personal tragedies, the pandemic and even having one member stuck indefinitely in Germany, do you feel like those challenges added to the emotional intensity of the record?
AL: Yeah, I think that’s a good way to put it. It made everything more important. The music has been like this life-giving thing for us all to grab onto and to connect us to each other. As people, we’ve been so isolated, so expressing yourself and being able to share in that with somebody far away, makes it feel like we’re not so far away, on an internal, on a soul level, you know, we are connected. It has been so healthy for all of us to be able to pull together and have something to work for, something to fight for and build a world that we can control.
That’s something we all want so bad in a time when it just has felt like so much is out of control. So I think for us, to have this thing to care about and to focus on, has just been such a gift. I don’t know what I would’ve done without it quite honestly, I think it would have really gone insane.
MF: All of these situations also made you have to be pretty innovative in order to complete the record, finishing songs and sessions for the album remotely and thinking your way around how to be a band, without ever really being in the same room. In a strange way did that challenge make the writing and recording process feel like a fresher and more interesting experience? Do you feel that adaptiveness and creativity added something extra to the record?
AL: Absolutely, I really do. I’m a believer in that. I really, really, really liked breaking rules, especially when it comes to creativity. I like making music, making art; to feel like making art, it needs to feel creative and inspired and excited. When we were making our first music, when I was writing Fallen, I didn’t know what I was doing. I didn’t have anything to live up to, or I didn’t have a method that I could rely on. It was just creating a way for the first time. The more that I think you can tap into that, where it feels like you’re just, a soul scratching at something trying to make it come to life, the better the art will be.
You can be surprised by how many different ways that can happen. I was pushing us in a little bit of that direction with Synthesis, making the band kind of find a new way to play their instruments, where it would fit into an orchestral setting without heavy guitars and big drums or anything that sounded like those acoustic instruments, pushing them to find a new way. Jen learned how to play the theremin a little bit and made that a part of her thing. I learned to play the harp a little over ten years ago, I’m a piano player and they’re related, I mean, a harp is the guts of a piano, but it’s being plucked. So there are similarities, it’s sort of like French to Latin or something but different, it makes you play differently, and I wrote songs during that time on the harp a little bit, because it forced me to play differently. It made me write differently also and because of that, we got songs that weren’t like the way they would be, if wrote them with a piano as my route, like I typically do.
I think it’s really good to work outside your comfort zone and outside the box and to be challenged, it makes it exciting too. I don’t want it to feel like a job. I want it to feel like the fun thing. I want it to feel like the secret project because that’s how it should be. Right? Like your job is your job, that’s the cubicle that’s filling out paperwork and doing your taxes to be a musician. To be a creator, to be an artist, that should be the thing that feels like your freedom, your release, the thing you’ll stay up all night for, not the thing that you’re supposed to do.
MF: That’s a very empowering message and an inspiring message to give people too and I feel like you can hear that fresh inspiration on the record.
AL: Good! You know, having to, having to think around the problems, this time a lot of it’s been about the promo. We did get to get back together and be in the studio, all of us, except Jen, last fall and do things in a fairly typical way, which was amazing, but it was more humble like we were eating ramen and stuff so that we wouldn’t have to do takeout a lot of the time. Everything was a little bit more like early days, which felt good. It made it feel like we’re doing this because we love this, not just because it’s a cushy job. Having to think about making our own music videos or even this right now, like setting up the stuff where I have to film myself, that’s a new experience.
We even did Jimmy Kimmel recently, and they essentially said, “do it yourself, figure it out and send it in, and we’ll put it on the air.” It’s like, Oh my God, well, we’re all over the world, but we don’t want to pass up this opportunity. So you just have to find a new way and it’s amazing, the feeling that you can get at the end of that after you do it, the empowering feeling that really does give you like, “Hey, I did it, I did it!”. It means something to know that I cared about it enough that I tried and I made it happen and in the process, I’ve learned a new skill.
MF: You learned a lot of new skills in the process, especially when you’re talking about the videos, the fact that you shot two video clips on your iPhones… did you ever think that would be possible? And was it hard to get into the performative headspace to make that look as organic and as awesome as it does?
AL: It was really fun! It’s hard to explain it, but it really reminds me of being in high school and having a dream and doing whatever I could with what I had to make it happen. Once we got the idea we realised that it’s not like we’re going to be able to do production, so let’s make it about the soul, let’s make it about the point and the heart of the message and see if we can get that across and let that be the leading thing. That’s been sort of the guiding mantra about this whole time through last year and in the process too, has been: let the meanings lead, not the tempo, not the style. Whether it is deciding which songs come first, or what’s going to be a single, all those things really have come about this time by answering the question of “What’s the message we want to convey? What are the words we want to speak into the world right now?” Because this music, as much as it is for us, it’s more than ever feeling like it’s for everybody. So what, where are we now? And what, what could the world, you know, relate to or need?
MF: The messages on the record, are particularly strong. The obvious one is ‘Use My Voice’ but overall it seems like a record with quite a lot to say, and I feel like that might differentiate it from what people might have come to expect when it comes to lyrical content from Evanescence. Is your focus as a musician and as a strong voice in the community to just say what you mean now? Was there ever a point in your career when you felt prevented from doing that?
AL: I think the biggest preventer of things like that is my own self. The music for me has truly, always been the one place where I tell the truth, not that I’m a liar in real life, but the music is the one place where I’m not holding back from saying what I really mean. The one place where I’m not just keeping my mouth shut because I don’t want to deal with the fallout. So whether or not that’s always come across clearly, because I have been vaguer in the past with the lyrics, I’m not sure. But if you knew my situation and you knew who I was talking about at the time, it would have been a lot more clear.
It’s funny because we’re on a level now, where it’s not just me and my family and my friends who know me, it is about something bigger on some of these tracks and ‘Use My Voice’ is definitely the biggest one that is that way. That’s coming from me, pushing myself. I have been really pushing myself over the years on every album and challenging myself to be more specific and to say what I really mean because it feels good. The more that I can really let off, the more of a release it is for me to let some of those things go. It felt good and felt like, there was a higher purpose with ‘Use My Voice’ because we knew that we were going to be able to use it, to empower other people, and make positive change in our country and in the world, in the fight for democracy. It’s so important. It’s huge. If rock can’t be the voice for power to the people, then I don’t know what we have to do that? That’s our job!
MF: That is awesome. It’s also good to hear to an extent that you feel like it was always you that has been holding yourself back, and that you’ve grown through that, rather than it being a case of industry folk, holding those elements back. Because I think there’s a bit of a belief in the music industry that particularly at the start circa Fallen, that people wanted you to be something that you’re not. Those people around you were trying to force you into becoming Linkin Park or something?
AL: That’s actually true, that part, but I still wrote about all of that, I still wrote those lyrics. So I guess that was the start of me pushing myself.
MF: It seems that you were a bit of a trailblazer in the modern heavy scene, in many ways. When Fallen blew up it inspired a generation of new performers and it seemed to also open industry eyes to what female and femme-identifying acts could bring to that space. With this in mind, it would be remiss of me not to ask how you feel about the state of the industry at the moment in terms of its attitude towards the female and femme-identifying artists in the heavy scene?
AL: That’s the question, isn’t it? It’s not about women not being allowed to be musicians. They always have been. It’s about how we see the summary. So often rock these days is not in the mainstream. It’s boiled down to a teeny, teeny, tiny piece of the pie, and there’s only room for one face, and it’s a picture of a dude. Because that’s how people that are not rock fans see the genre. People that are rock fans know that rock music has never gone away, that it has legions of fans and thousands of fresh acts and perspectives, but whether or not these big mainstream gatekeepers are going to let that through, and show that as reality, is a different thing altogether. I think to an extent that people who don’t know a lot about modern rock music, still see it as a picture of something ancient, like an artefact of when they were kids. They still see it like Bruce Springsteen, or The Beatles, or these other depictions of old rock bands, when the truth as you know is that it has changed so much since then.
I do think that they’re making an effort now, I’m seeing an effort being made. I mean this last Grammys was all women in the rock category, In This Moment was up for the metal award, and I know that it’s not just about the Grammys, but it’s good to see that happening. I think that the world, our society is aware that this is a moment for different perspectives to have a chance to show their face and to shine and to say, “Hey, here’s, here’s something from my perspective”. I think that’s really, really important that we all are able to kind of see things through more perspectives than just our own. I think that is really the road to helping a lot of the issues in our world, in our society. Not thinking only from your little perspective of you and your hometown and what you’ve seen, and there’s a lot more out there and it doesn’t need to be scary. We just need to be exposed to all kinds of differences. It’s happening. Rock is definitely a place for all things, all people, you know. But it’s just gonna take time, you know, for that picture to change, when all it boils down to a summary, they need to stop summarizing so much. I will say as well, rock music is huge. There’s so much of it. We need a little more air time, please!
MF: Yes, yes, yes, definitely. Definitely more time, more perspectives, more diversity, more respect, more rock! I’m actually a rock singer myself. So I’m just sitting here nodding thinking that it would be lovely to be considered a worthwhile genre again, in a mainstream sense. Now, I do want to know something about you as a person, Amy. The band has a very distinctive, visual aesthetic and I’ve always wanted to know if that’s something that’s inspired by your tastes, the other things in life that you enjoy, or if it is just something that fits the music?
AL: That’s an interesting question. I feel like it’s both. I’ve always had a huge interest in the visual. It is essentially important to me and I always have ideas like when the songs are happening, when I’m making music when we’re in our world of creating, I’m constantly just seeing things in my head and thinking about ideas about how to bring the song to life with visuals. I’ll sit there thinking “ooh if we do a video, I need to see this happening” you know? Or, for example, with the clothing you see me in, I designed my own clothes. So a lot of the time what I wear either on stage or in music videos, I’ve made specifically for that purpose. It’s about being able to create a whole world and have a visual representation of who you are from the production too, on stage, it’s so important, it makes all the difference. It’s honestly, you understanding and accepting and putting out there a further dimension of what you are for people to tap into and to get and to relate to and perceive.
It’s hugely important to me, but it has to do with the music. You can currently see toys against a white wall, on a couch, in my house, so you can tell that my house is not entirely full of like black wallpaper and chains, if that’s what anyone was expecting. But I wouldn’t say that Evanescence aesthetic is straight-up metal either. It’s more complex than that. So it’s the side of me that is that trying to summarize the music in a way, in a visual mode, where it’s kind of like got some Victorian elements that represent the classical for me, and it’s got weird atmospheric things that kind of represent the electronic world, and of course it’s got the distressed elements and the darkness and the heavy feeling of the band. The more layers you can use to express yourself, the better.
MF: That makes a whole lot of sense. I honestly hadn’t connected the Victorian imagery and the classical music background before, but it absolutely makes sense to me now. Speaking of visual arts, you’re doing a very cool thing within that spectrum on this record, by releasing a graphic novel anthology that’s inspired by Evanescence music. How did that come about? And as a lover of the medium, that must be the most awesome thing ever, right?
AL: It’s so awesome. It’s so awesome! I have all these really grand ideas that would take way too much time and energy to actually do, while also doing my music career and being a mum and everything else that goes on in life, but this is something that I’m able to do because it’s coming from heavy metal. They came to me and were like, “Hey, we’d like to do this with you”, so instead of me having to find artists and put all this stuff together and create this world, they’re like, “Hey, we got it, we have the coolest, the best graphic design artists in our works in our sphere and the best story writers and stuff, and we want to do something based on your music”. So they came to me about a year ago and it sounded like one of those ideas that are too good to be true, where I was saying, “I’m in, now let’s see if this is just a bunch of meetings or it’s really going to happen” and it’s really happening!
The first two songs are in the works right now, it’s just so cool. I want to make this clear to our fans, it’s not my idea and my inspiration of the meanings behind the songs, presented as a visual. This is different artists and different writers for each song, getting an idea and being inspired while listening to the song and turning that inspiration into a beautiful graphic novel, based on their individual interpretation of the song. It’s so cool because it lets the music just take on more forms, have more lives, more alternate realities. I love it!
MF: I look forward to looking at every single one of these! Have you seen any of the graphic novels yet?
AL: I have, I’ve seen some of the stuff already and it looks really cool and I’m very excited. I have a little hand in it, giving opinions like do this, don’t do that, but for the most part, this is other creatives, just taking it to another place. It feels really good to see that happen.
MF: That’s so awesome. I’ve got to let you go, so thank you for talking to Music Feeds. I must confess that as a heavy music-obsessed teenager when Fallen dropped, I was all about it, so it’s great to see and hear you and Evanescence in such a great place as you’re putting The Bitter Truth out into the world.
AL: Thank you, that’s lovely to hear. It’s good to be back! It’s been nice talking to you, thanks for taking the time.

Love Potion

.
When the sun began to set and the warm wind became colder, a pink lady walked towards the coziness of her home looking from side to side making sure no one was looking at her.
With brown paper bags on both of her peach-colored arms, Amy Rose successfully opened the door to her pink home. Not wanting to waste time, the rosette hedgehog placed her bags on the dining table. It didn't take her long for the pink one to pull out two vials. Circular crystal clear vials revealed two different colors, a pink and black substance for each of the small vials.
Amy looked at them like a treasure because they were.
It was a love potion and an antidote.
Suddenly, there was knocking coming from her door. The pink hedgehog excitedly went towards it and she didn't doubt a second to open the door.
There he was. The not so tall black hedgehog. His vermillion eyes would naturally show a bit of cruelty but when it came to the pink one, his eyes naturally soften.
"Come in!" Amy said as she opened the door him, stepping side for Shadow to get in. The red stripped hedgehog walked in quietly absorbing the coziness of the house and aroma of Amy's home.
"What is that you need me for?" Shadow asked as he turned around to face Amy who was closing the door behind her. It didn't take the dark hedgehog a lot of time to figure out that Amy meant trouble this time. Her smile was a quirky one and her eyes showed decisiveness.
"You are going to drink something and you are going to tell me how you feel, alright?"
It was too simple that Shadow found it too risky. He was called in by Amy in such a short notice that he thought there was something important going on. It just couldn't be this easy.
"This seems too simple," Shadow said. "What else if there?"
"It is that simple! Please just try it out," Amy clasped her hands together. "I'll tell you what it is afterward ... Just trust me on this one."
Shadow the Hedgehog was the Ultimate Life Form, he really could do anything he wanted. There were a few things he just couldn't do, however, and one of those things was to say no to Amy Rose.
Defeated, Shadow sighed and said, "Fine."
Amy let a small squeal out of excitement and Shadow mentally smiled to himself. If he could make the girl happy by just drinking whatever she was going to give him, then so be it.
The pink hedgehog quickly went towards her kitchen and she came back with a spoon on her hand. Meanwhile, Shadow went towards the dining table where he noticed the pink and black vials. He sat in front of them knowing that this must be the things he was supposed to be drinking.
Amy sat next to him as she grabbed the vial that contained a pink liquid. A small 'pop' sound occurred the moment she took of the cork.
Delicately she poured some of the liquid on the spoon she had grabbed from the kitchen.
"Alright, say ah~" Amy said as she got closer to Shadow who was already thinking about going back on his word. It wasn't that he didn't want to help but Amy offering good as if was a baby made him feel the slightest embarrassment.
He rolled his eyes and he accepted his fate. Shadow opened his mouth and the pink one didn't hesitate to shove the pink substance in Shadow's mouth.
Now it was a matter of waiting.
Shadow tasted the liquid on his mouth and he was incredibly surprised that he actually liked the flavor of it.
"Tastes like strawberries," Shadow said. "Where did you get it?"
"You don't feel different?" Amy asked.
"No."
"Like, you don't see flowers around and think I am the most beautiful hedgehog in the world?" Amy asked again.
"What is all of this about?"
Amy sighed in defeat, once again she had her hopes too high. "I bought a love potion from a gypsy and I thought it would work."
"You were going to make me fall in love with you?" Shadow said his tone voice showed concern.
"Yes, but then I was going to give you the antidote ... It's this black potion." The rosette hedgehog said as she pointed to the other vial that contained a black substance.
The black hedgehog noticed the disappointment of the pink lady. Of course, this was one of her tricks to get the blue blur's attention, and once again it had failed. He tried to come up with some type of encouragement but he wasn't good with his words.
"If you want the faker to truly love you ... I don't think this is the way." Shadow said.
"I know! But I just wanted to know ... What it feels like." Amy looked down at the table, staring intensely at the pink love potion. "I just wanted for Sonic to love me one day ... I was going to give him the antidote afterward."
Shadow just couldn't stop himself from feeling a little bit sad for Amy. After all, they were good friends and he felt the pain of the pink one even if that pain was due to that blue hedgehog.
"Well ... At least you got yourself a good strawberry extract."
Amy giggled a little. She loved it when Shadow tried to be funny in order to cheer her up. Although he wasn't the funniest, the thought was what counted.
The pink hedgehog looked back again at the love potion and got curious.
"I am going to try it," Amy said as she placed some of the pink liquid on the spoon she had used before with Shadow. She didn't care if it was in his mouth before, they were past that point of caring in their friendship. The pink one placed the spoon in her mouth, letting herself enjoy the strawberry flavor of the liquid.
"Wow, you are right! This is really good, I should use this for baking," said Amy. "Glad to know my money didn't go fully to waste."
The two began to talk more after that, completely forgetting about the potions in front of them. Amy then proceeded to cook for Shadow who was more than happy to eat one of his friend's amazing cooking. They watched TV together and without noticing Amy fell asleep on the couch.
Shadow didn't think about it much and instead, he picked her up princess style. She was very light and the black hedgehog made a mental note to remind the pink flower to eat more whenever he could.
Walking through the hallway, Shadow tried to make as little sounds as possible. Finally, he reached the room of the pink one and he placed her delicately on her bed. When she was fully resting, Shadow placed some blankets on top of her and as he did he noticed something. Right next to Amy, on her right drawer, there were frames with pictures of her friends. Sonic, Cream, Knuckles, Tails, Blaze, Rouge, Silver, and everyone.
Even him.
It was an ID picture of him, the one G.U.N. took of him in order to create him a pass card.
He felt a bit embarrassed that he didn't' have any other pictures to offer. The black hedgehog was even surprised Amy had that picture but knowing her, he was sure she asked Rouge for a picture of him.
"Shadow?"
The black hedgehog heard a soft voice calling to him. He faced Amy who was directly looking at him.
"Yes?"
The moonlight coming from outside her window illuminated Shadow's face. Enhancing all of his features, especially his vermillion eyes which brighten by the outside light. Amy has always been aware that Shadow was a very attractive hedgehog, gaining the sighs of all of his females (And even some male) coworkers at G.U.N. However, it wasn't until now that Amy really took the time to appreciate all of him. He was like a fallen angel too ethereal to look.
"Your eyes are really pretty."
.
.
.
It was a pretty boring morning at the headquarters of G.U.N. After a long meeting with G.U.N.'s commander and other officials, Team Dark was ready for a well-deserved lunch break.
When they entered the agent's lunch and resting room, they were surprised to find a pink hedgehog sitting at one of the tables.
"Amy?"
Shadow asked as he walked towards the pink hedgehog who face brighten up the moment he noticed Shadow walking up to her. Rouge was following close and Omega would be too if he wasn't getting lunch at the Mechanic's Department.
"I brought you lunch," Amy said.
"Lunch?"
"Yes, I don't know I was cooking at home and made some extra so I decided to bring it to you."
The black hedgehog gulped saliva because he was surprised at Amy's actions. Not because he wasn't used to Amy cooking for him but because she went all the way from her home to G.U.N. to bring him food. It wasn't only that, Amy had brought him lunch on a pink bento box with stickers of cute bunnies around it.
Add those things plus the people watching them in awe, especially the white bat behind him who was known to be a tease.
"Well, Shadow aren't you going to say thank you to your girlfriend?" Rouge said as she patted his back making him realized once again his embarrassment.
"She's not my girlfriend," Shadow faced Rouge, giving her a cold stare.
"Of course I am not!" Amy said loud enough for everyone to hear. Shadow let out a small smirk, thankful that Amy was sharing the same sentiment. However, that feeling didn't last long because Amy was fast to go against his predicament as well.
The pink hedgehog stood up from her seat, her hands smacking against the table.
"I am his wife!"
.
.
.
Now there he was, walking Amy outside G.U.N.'s headquarters. A sad look on Amy's face and an angry look the black hedgehog.
"Don't say things like that Amy," Shadow said as he let go on Amy's wrist. Finally, they were outside the building, and Shadow was ready to talk. "Didn't you see how the other females were looking at you? They were ready to hurt you."
"I am sorry ... I just wanted to make it clear to all of those girls that I am the one you love," Amy was looking down to the cement, feeling a bit ashamed of her self. However, she just couldn't control her jealousy sometimes. She could hear how the other girls at G.U.N talked so dreamily about Shadow and her anger just got the best of her.
"Besides ... I just want to be with you today."
The black hedgehog watched her moved her right foot in circles in a shy manner. She was still holding the pink bento box in her hands.
"Rose, as much as I like your attention, you are usually not like this," Shadow looked down to the pink one, making eye contact with her. He didn't want to make her feel sad but it was too risky for her to say those words out loud. Someone may take it seriously and try to hurt her. Hell, even Rouge had gotten some death threats because she goes on missions with him.
"I think I may know what's happening, but right now I have to go back to work," Shadow said. "I'll see you after at your house"
"You mean our home?"
The black hedgehog would be lying if he said he didn't feel something when she said 'our home' However, he didn't think too much about it. It must be the love potion speaking that somehow it has done its effect on her last night.
"Yeah, whatever." Shadow crossed his arms as he looked away, not wanting to make eye contact with Amy anymore.
"What about your lunch?" Amy extended both of her arms, holding the pink bento box right in front of Shadow. The dark hedgehog gave it one last look before saying,
"I am not eating it."
Shadow regretted saying that the moment the words escaped his lips because as he saw Amy's disappointed and sad face was something he just couldn't stand.
Amy let out a small sniff, "I am a bad wife, aren't I?"
And just like that, the pink bento box disappeared from Amy's hands. Shadow held it close to his chest as if it was something precious to him.
"I don't want it but since you came here all the way to give it to me I'll accept it."

Amy thought that today was going to go peacefully. Central City was known for its safety because it was the home of world heroes. As well that G.U.N.'s main headquarters was located in the city in case anything happens. Our pink lady was more than ready than to go home and cook something for her lovely Shadow the Hedgehog.
She was singing to her herself, a smile decorated her face and she was just radiating happiness. Amy didn't remember being this happy before, maybe she was but it was a distant memory now.
The streets of Central City were lively, full of people talking, whispering, walking. Tall, medium, and small buildings decorated the sides of the streets. Coffee shops, clothing, restaurants, malls, and many more businesses were the epitome of a modern city. Very few cars passed once in a while, which was a normal sight since the city mainly focused on subways and trains.
It was a good say ... way too good.
And of course, to ruin Amy's beautiful day, people began running. Horrible screams of panic filled the city's air. Families ran towards the closest restaurants to hide, some coffee shops closed their stores, and others just decided to make a run for it.
It didn't take Amy long to figure out what was happening.
Eggman.
"HOHOHO!"
Yeah, definitely him.
Eggman was in his Eggmobile, following his 100-meter tall robot. Amy rolled her eyes in annoyance, did she really have to fight the robot now? There was a possibility that she might get her new dress dirty and she didn't want Shadow to see her like that either.
Seeing that no one else was going to appear any time soon. The pink lady snapped her fingers and immediately her iconic hammer appeared on her right hand. She approached the robot, a fearless expression on her face.
"Hey, Eggman! Do you think we can reschedule this for another time? I really can't today." Amy said loud enough for Eggman to hear.
Eggman looked down to the ground where he found a pink dot which he immediately recognized.
"Oh? What about tomorrow afternoon?"
"I don't think so, I'll be with Shadow."
"Oh, then what about next weekend- Wait no! I'll attack now!"
It took only the pressing of one red button in the Eggmobile for the 100-meter tall blue robot to start moving and destroying things with his missiles.
Amy was fast to take action as her hammer made direct hits to the robot's center.
And then, G.U.N.'s troops began to appear. From left to right, down to the bottom, helicopters, cars, motorcycles, guns, officers, and agents. The pink hedgehog let out another smile, knowing better well who was going to appear at any second now.
As if Chaos heard her prayers, it didn't take long for her favorite hedgehog to appear.
Shadow the Hedgehog.
.
.
.
"What did you think you were doing?!"
It was already late at night at Amy's house and the last thing she expected was to get scolded by her love.
Like a child that got caught painting the walls, Shadow was in front of Amy as she was sitting on her sofa looking down to her feet.
"And what was I supposed to do? Let that bullet get to you?" Amy said quietly.
"Yes! Bullets can't go through my skin!"
"But still!"
The black hedgehog sighed in defeat. He knew that he shouldn't have left her just like that. Now here she was, with an injured arm and a white bandage wrapped around it where the bullet had pierced through. She was alright, the wound would heal soon enough. However, Shadow would be lying if he wasn't the slightest worried about her.
More than that actually ...
"Quick, we need to get her to a hospital!" Shadow was screaming to the other agents to get help from them. He was becoming desperate as no one was showing up.
"Shadow, there's no need. I am fine-"
Amy was trying to calm her lover seeing that he was panicking more than necessary. She even felt a bit guilty for making him feel like that.
"Don't waste your energy talking! I need to get you to the hospital now!"
"But Shadow-"
"I don't want you to die!"
"But I won't!"
.
.
.
Looking back at it, Shadow was just overreacting. He was exaggerating but could you blame him for not understanding a normal Mobian's body? For all he knew, they could easily break like glass or paper.
Now he was sitting next to the pink flower. For a few seconds, none of the two were saying a word until once again, Amy broke the silence.
"You looked so cute!"
"Cute?"
"And cool too! Amy said. "And when the robot kept attacking me you were like 'damn' ... You were so romantic!"
Amy kept babbling about how 'cool' Shadow was. He rolled his eyes in annoyance but in all honesty, he was enjoying Amy's admiration. Her words were full of love, appreciation, and Shadow wonders if she really thought of him like this. Part of him didn't want for her to stop or whatever was happening to stop. However, he just couldn't let Amy live like this. This wasn't the real Amy, this wasn't her friend.
This whole love potion needed to end now.
"Alright, time for your medicine." Shadow stood up from the sofa and walked towards the dining table were thankfully he found the black antidote for the love potion on a vial. He then went to the kitchen and grabbed a spoon. Finally, he walked back to the pink hedgehog was waiting for him patiently.
"What is this medicine for? I don't feel sick." Amy said as she watched her black partner sit next to her.
"Just drink it, it will help you heal faster." Shadow took off the small cork out of the crystal vial and placed a good amount of black liquid on the spoon.
"Alright, drink it." The black hedgehog puts the spoon close to Amy's mouth but to his surprise, she looks indifferent to it.
"Before I drink that you have to answer a question." Amy looked directly at Shadow vermillion's eyes. He was a bit annoyed at her stubbornness but he couldn't do anything about it at this point. Shadow nodded as to finish this as soon as he could.
"I love with all of my heart but ... do you love me?"
What could he do? What could he say to make this situation better? He knew that Amy didn't love him and it was just the love potion talking again. He simply could say yes, and get this over with. However, his friendship with Amy was based on honesty, and lying to her just didn't feel right.
But maybe it wasn't all a lie.
"Well ... What do you think?"
.
.
.
The next day when the love potion wore off, Amy didn't' doubt to go see the gypsy who sold her the love potion and antidote and ask for a return.
Besides not being able to remember what happened yesterday, and having a feeling that something interesting happened, the pink hedgehog had enough of messing around with magic.
She looked around the forest where she last stumbled upon the gypsy's tent. Glad to see that the purple tent was still there, Amy didn't doubt to enter. It was bigger than it looked. A shelter full of potions decorated the left side, while on the other side jars of unknown substances were placed carefully on the placed at the top of the right corner. Under it was a very beautiful gypsy fox. Her yellow fur made her blue eyes stand out and the soft smirk placed on her face made her look too good, even Amy felt a bit intimidated by her.
"Do you know how to knock dear?"
"Is a tent, you can't knock," Amy replied.
"Touche,"
The blond fox stood from her chair and slowly approached the pink hedgehog. "What do you want now, didn't the love potion work?"
"No, actually it did and that was the problem," Amy said as she pulled the love potion and the antidote out of the bag she was carrying. "I am returning them because they worked too well ... Well, almost."
"Almost?"
The gypsy asked intrigued as they took the vials from Amy's hands.
"Well, my friend tried it the first time and it didn't have any effect on him," Amy replied relieved that the potion was no longer on her hands.
"My love potions never fails ... Do you know what that means?"
The gypsy fox gave Amy a teasing smile, one in which it almost the pink one tremble in fear. Amy shook her head side to side indicating her lack of knowledge.
"That means that your friend is already in love with you."

i’m gonna need those scissors
i'm trying to finish off some half-completed pieces in my drafts so behold, whatever this is. it was originally supposed to my entry for last years sonamy week prompt: gender bender, but clearly i never got it done in time (shocker, lol). i hope you enjoy <3
... xxx ...
Sonic brushed her quills out of her face with an air of exasperation. Chaos, those things were getting long. She couldn’t even remember when she’d last gotten them cut. Perhaps it was that time she’d gotten so impatient she’d hacked them off herself only to be met with the horrified looks of her friends as she reappeared with choppy, uneven quills.
She’d never received a reception quite like that ever since, she thought with a smile, jolting to a stop as she reached into her quills for a spare hair tie. She blew an annoyed raspberry as her hands came up empty, finding only the spare chaos emerald she kept on hand for emergencies.
It must have fallen out on one of her countless runs across the globe she decided, lifting an unruly bang from her face and scrutinising it in the sunlight.
Perhaps cutting her quills herself wasn’t such a terrible idea. She’d already practiced once after all; how much worse could she possibly do a second time? And anyway, anything was better than having it crowding her vision all the time.
The girl blew the overgrown bang out of her face and took her bearings.
Ames didn’t live too far. He would definitely have some scissors lying around somewhere or other she concluded, spinning on her heel as she headed towards the outskirts of town. She dragged her feet to a stop as she spotted his house in the distance.
From her vantage point, she could see a pop of pink floating around the garden and she smiled instinctively. It was just like Ames to make the most of the gorgeous sunshine by tending to the flower garden, his pride and joy.
She would never admit it to him, but his garden with all its lush foliage and vast array of plants was one of her favourite places in the world – and Sonic had seen a lot of the world.
“Hey bud,” she called as she neared, pushing open the gate hard enough that the momentum meant it swung shut behind her. The move had taken her a long while to perfect, much to Ames’ annoyance. “How goes it?”
Ames’ pink head popped up from behind some nearby shrubbery with a wide grin. “Sonic!” he called happily, rushing over and pulling her into a tight hug.
“Come on Ames, let a girl breathe,” she groaned through his bone crushing hug.
He released her with a bright smile. “What brings you my way?” he asked happily, his green eyes sparkling like emeralds in the sunlight.
The boy had let his hair grow out past his shoulders and the usually loose quills were tied back in a loose ponytail as he worked, a style she found suited him much more than it ever had her.
“Well, actually,” Sonic drawled, pulling out her infamous grin. Ames’ face dropped instantly, and he took a cautious step away from her.
“Oh no,” he muttered. “I don’t have a good feeling about this.”
“I’m gonna need those scissors,” Sonic said plainly, pointing to the garden shears in the boy’s hands. Ames pulled them close to his chest with a frown, shaking his head.
“Yeah … that’s not happening.”
“Oh, come on. I’m sick of all this … inconvenience!” she said groaned, tugging her quills out to demonstrate. “Everything I do ends up with me getting a mouthful of my own quills. And believe me when I say, my shampoo does not taste as good as it smells.”
Ames pouted his lips, clutching tightly to the shears in his hands as if he feared Sonic might attempt to grab them from him – and if she was being honest, she had considered the thought – but then he said something that surprised even her.
“Let me cut it for you.”
Sonic bit her lip as she considered the offer. She doubted Ames had ever cut any hair that wasn’t his own, but there was no way he could be as bad as she was. And if that was what it took to achieve shorter quills, then sure, why not let him cut it.
“Alright,” she agreed, and a wide grin spread across her friend’s face.
Minutes later Sonic found herself standing in the bathroom as Ames whipped out a folding chair from seemingly nowhere. “Here, sit down,” he said, angling the chair so it faced away from the mirror.
“Where did you get that from?” Sonic asked as she took a seat, craning her head back to try and catch a glimpse of herself in the mirror. It was no use. With Ames stood behind her, she couldn’t see a thing, which she supposed had been his intent in the first place.
“I’m prepared for anything,” Ames said and Sonic frowned, unsure what to make of the statement as she sat back, waiting for the whole ordeal to be over with.
The first snip echoed in her ear’s moments later, followed by another and another. Ames parted her quills this way and that, the scissors flashing as he cut away at small sections at a time. Sonic was surprised at how easy he was making this look. At one point, she was sure she’d caught him smelling her hair and had to bite her lip to hide her smile.
When it came time to cut the bangs at the front of her head, she was already tapping her foot impatiently on the tiles below. “Will you cut that out,” Ames said, kneeling beside her as he lifted the hair at her forehead. “You’re making me nervous.”
“Sorry,” she grumbled back, forcing her feet to still. Her eyes drifted towards Ames, and she was surprised to see the intense look in his eyes as he snipped away at her quills. She’d never really noticed how handsome he was before, but up close, it was undeniable.
Ames had the cheekbones of a god. Sonic was almost tempted to reach out and touch them, and if not for the unfamiliar way her cheeks were blazing at the thought, she actually might have.
“Are you done yet?” she snapped irritably, trying to distract herself from the way he was suddenly making her feel. He shook his head, pausing as he caught sight of her face before moving on with a little frown.
After several long minutes, or maybe longer - Sonic had gotten bored and given up keeping track of the time – Ames stepped back with a proud look in his eyes.
“Ta-dah!”
Without waiting for any other instruction, Sonic jumped to her feet and stepped up to the mirror. Her mouth fell open in shock as she caught sight of the hedgehog who stared back at her.
She leaned in closer in disbelief, reaching up to touch her much shorter quills. They still framed her face in a shock of cerulean blue and still had the wild quality she loved, but they were also … pretty.
That was the only way she could describe the cut Ames had given her and she saw him watching her in the mirror, wondering where on earth he had learned to cut so well. “It … it’s incredible,” she said softly, turning toward the real Ames whose gaze turned shy at her attention.
“I’m glad,” he said, already beginning to clear away the mess of quills that had fallen to the bathroom floor. Sonic stepped closer, reaching out a hand towards him before changing her mind and grabbing the chair instead.
Ames didn’t seem to have noticed and she was glad, not quite sure why she had wanted to touch him in the first place. That same burning sensation flooded her cheeks again and she frowned as she packed up the chair.
“Thanks again Ames,” Sonic said as the pair found themselves out in the garden again a little while later. She reached for the ends, bobbing them dramatically. “I really do love it.”
“It was nothing,” Ames said humbly. “Will you be on your way now?”
His face remained as bright and smiling as before, but Sonic noticed the slight note of sadness in his tone and knew she didn’t want to leave just yet.
“Actually, I was hoping I could stick around for a while. Maybe I could cut some shrubs to repay you,” she said with a smirk.
“Please don’t,” Ames responded, looking horrified at the prospect of her being anywhere near his precious plants with anything sharper than a cushion.
“Or I could just stick around and keep you company,” she amended, watching as his face softened. He picked up his scissors and she followed after him as he headed towards the roses at the far side of the garden.
“Hey, Ames,” she called out as she traipsed behind him. “Will you cut my hair for me next time too?”
He didn’t stop walking, but he did turn to look at her over his shoulder with a small smile. “I’d like that.”
“Me too,” she said quietly, a small smile of her own greeting his. Sonic wasn’t sure what the strange fluttering sensation in her stomach was, but she found it wasn’t entirely unpleasant.
She was very much looking forward to her next haircut.

Thank You Good Omens
This post is going to be stupid long, because I’ve actually managed to fall in love with Good Omens three different times in my life!
In May of 1990, I was a college student in a hippie town in Ohio that had a great comics/SF book shop (STILL THERE), and because staff knew I loved Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series, made sure to point out to me that Gaiman had just co-written a novel and I might like it. I bought it. I did like it, very much.
Despite spending a lot of time on co-op in NYC and seeing Sonic Youth live as often as possible and going hard for the sex & drugs thing, I had just fallen off the turnip truck from a tiny Appalachian town of <300 people with a HEAVY emphasis on hellfire-and-brimstone religion. It permeated everything, including school (Yes, public school. Didn’t matter)
A lot of people don’t know this about me, but I had a fervent Christian phase when I was in my tweens. Despite my parents being non-churchgoers, I did go to church. (They’d drop me off and pick me up). Peer pressure was so strong, it was impossible not to. Being thought of an atheist or Satanist would lead to shit, the beating out of.
And at a revival, I GOT IT. Slain in the spirit, speaking in tongues, the whole bit. I was ALL IN. I hectored my parents and cried because I didn’t want them to go to Hell. And yet, it went away just as fast. I am a spiritual person, don’t expect that will ever change, but I had this super intense faith for a while, and then I lost it.
So when I read Good Omens for the first time, I felt weirdly healed. The mockery of that sort of end-times theology, that also had a sort of gentle humanist kindness at its heart, with its failboat antihero demon and angel protagonists and an Antichrist who really just wanted to hang with his friends and saw taking over the world as a responsibility he didn’t want rather than something desirable…
It got to me. Right in the feels. The fact that it’s a comedy is KEY to its effectiveness - laughter is powerful healing magic, and GO turned the light of satire right onto some of my deepest and most secret fears.
That’s also about the time I found my real path. May 1 (Beltane) 1990 is ALSO the 30th anniversary of my Wiccan coven initiation. (And I’ll be in a Discord chat with my old coven tonight, we have all stayed fairly close) My practice has varied a lot since in the details, but not in the faith core.
That’s round ONE of my Good Omens love. Round TWO was in 2004. I was heartsick and gutted by W’s re-election even though I saw it coming. Honestly I think seeing the Religious Right still hold so much power was a literal trigger, I see that in hindsight now. (The projectile vomiting was a clue)
I decided to cope by attempting to read the Left Behind series, in an “understanding how the enemy thinks” way. Although of course I already knew that all too well. I was reading Fred Clark/Slacktivist’s brilliant page by page takedown, and then I remembered my old friends from that book I loved in college!
Surely I could handle Left Behind if I had Aziraphale and Crowley and Adam and Anathema and the rest mentally sitting next to me and helping to MST3K it! I made it through a book and a half of LB, but the GO reread was worth the price.
I was into fanfic by then, so I realized….”Ah, I bet there is fic. I bet people ship Aziraphale and Crowley.” I was not disappointed. The lower-tadfield comm on LJ at its peak had more than 1000 members, and there were DeviantArt groups and mailing lists and a fair amount on fanfiction.net. So I went ALL IN and I got very productive.
I co-founded the GO Holiday Exchange in 2005 (which I still co-mod, and it’s the longest running job I’ve ever had). I met so many friends there - special shoutout to Merlin/Quantum Witch, my dear friend and collaborator, whose illustrations brought my words to life. I was ecstatic to find that she lives within 2 hours of me, and over the last 15 years we’ve visited each other a lot. We got to meet Neil Gaiman together.
My third burst of GO love came with the show, of course. I went to visit Merlin and we watched it together, and squealed. Particularly through the first half-hour of Episode Three of course. GO fandom has produced a LOT of historical fic for obvious reasons, and it looked like a highlights reel.
Also, there used to be wank in the fandom about how Crowley’s name is pronounced. WE WERE VINDICATED. (Certainly he was named after the real sinister historical A. Crowley, right? Who once wrote a doggerel verse mentioning his name rhymes with “holy.”)
There are things that as a longtime book fan, I don’t like or am ambivalent about in the show, but I think the heart of it was captured so very well. Since the first read 30 years ago, I’ve also read almost all of Pratchett’s Discworld, and his style of discoursing through humor just sits right on my brain.
(Pratchett got me through 2007-2008, when I lost a home, a longterm relationship, and a dream job just a few months apart. Bless you Pterry, you are missed.)
So Thank you Good Omens! You’ve brought me laughter, comfort, creativity, friendship, and a permanent influence on my worldview and spirituality. You’ve created the space for a fandom that tackles deep questions about theology and morality, often in the same work with slapstick comedy and smut.

Sonamy Prompt
Eh? Another one? It’s more likely than you think!
Prompts are on shutdown, please await the official grand reopening announcement ^^
Prompt:
“Well, the effects of the berries she’s eaten won’t kill her.” The little Butterfly girl stated as Tails and Sonic held Amy upright, her eyes spinning a bit as though about to faint.
“I told you...” Tails whined a little to Amy, but she didn’t seem to be all there at the moment, “I said to stay close and not wander off on your own!”
“It’s no use, Tails, she’s already eaten them.” Sonic, a little more sympathetic to the situation, seemed to just calm him down a moment. “Let’s just focus on the present.” He nodded, as though taking this a little more seriously when he looked back at the Butterfly girl.
“R-right... What are the side-effects?” Tails looked to the girl who nodded and began to move her four arms about.
“O-o-oh! Nothing serious! Since you aren’t used to our food, it may make you a bit... silly and highly attractive to things.”
“...” Tails and Sonic looked to each other a moment, confused by her wording.
“Like... magnetic?” Tails questioned.
“N-no... like... in love?” She shrugged, fluttering a bit in the air as silence suddenly descended on the conversation.
Then, Sonic slammed his back against a tree, spreading out, as though not wanting Amy to see him or be near him.
“That’s not good.” Tails sweatdropped, now being the only brave soul willing to help keep her balanced on her feet. He looked to Amy, “She’s already really fond of Sonic...”
“Oh dear.” the little Butterfly put one gloved hand over her mouth and flew over to look at Amy’s face. “Hmm... It’s definitely changing to be more redder. I’d say she ate quite a few... they do have a strong perfume to them, so I can see the allure if she was hungry.” The Butterfly woman flew up a little and seemed about ready to leave. “I’m sorry I can’t help any further, but the fever will last till she’s digested the food properly. Please take care of your friend till then.” she bowed, apologetically.
“O-oh, it’s okay! It’s not your fault...” Tails let go of Amy to help her sit on the ground a moment, her eyes already a bit ditsy as her vision blurred and swirled. He shook a hand to her, as though telling her to not worry about it, and she nodded at his kindness.
“The other hedgehog was looking for the blue hedgehog. I’ll let him know you’re here.” She flew off then, “Wait till she’s fallen into a slumber! That’s when you can watch her a bit better!” she called from the sky, turning around to wave and cupped a hand to the side of her mouth to project the message across.
Tails was still nervous but waved lightly to her back. “O...Okay.”
Tails looked annoyed towards Sonic, his eyes dropping a bit, “You gonna help me?”
Sonic pouted, “You heard the girl, if I approach Amy now, she may get hysterical.” he sweatdropped, clearly nervous about the situation.
Tails sighed, “Well, can’t be helped.” He picked Amy’s arm up to loop around his shoulders and tried to get her up. “Err...! Come on..! Let’s sit... you... down... somewhere... safe!” he tried to move her, but her entire being wasn’t helping him at all. Instead, her full weight slumped hard on the ground.
In Amy’s reality, the grass made her fingers numb. She could barely feel her body being lifted up or even moving. Her face was hot, and her vision was starting to come back, but her mind took a minute to realize what it was looking at. Then, all at once, it lost itself completely and she started giggling.
“Since when did I get ‘ere..?” She hiccuped, but then didn’t talk for several seconds even after Tails answered.
Later, Shadow appeared, glad to have finally found Sonic as Amy opened her eyes to see the shapes chatting with one another.
Her eyes then honed in on Shadow’s fluff, and her mouth opened into a durpy grin.
Like a slug, she flopped her asleep arm forward, not able to feel it very much, and dragged herself towards him.
Surprisingly, he didn’t really notice her until she got closer, and then angled his head towards her.
“What are you doing?” He asked, his arms folded before Amy wobbled to her feet and leaned on him.
Instinctively, he caught her.
Both Tails and Sonic looked a little shaken, worried about her but also about how Shadow would react to this.
“She’s a bit loopy!” Tails explained quickly. “She accidentally ate the berries here and-!”
“Your fluff... I want to squish my face in it.” Amy mumbled out, as though drunk, and giggled with a few hiccups to herself.
Then Sonic broke out laughing, pointing to Shadow’s slowly raising eyebrow at the confusion of this new puzzle, but also at the fact that she then kept poking his face and repeating, “Handsome, Handsome, HAnDsOme~”
She leaned her head against his shoulder and slumped downward, not able to keep herself upright as Shadow’s eyebrow twitched and his mouth hung open as though not knowing what to say, although sounds did pass through them to reveal his uncomfortableness at this disturbance.
After a moment of reacting to Shadow, Sonic suddenly felt it was time to remove Amy from him. “Whoo... Alright, I had my laugh, and you-!” he quickly scooped Amy up into a bridal-style hold. Shaking his head at her with a smile, “Have had your fun. Sorry, Shadow. She tends to get into trouble if not watched carefully enough.” He teased, but Amy just lightly reached for Shadow.
“Fluffy... no...” She seemed genuinely despondent, and Sonic just pouted to her in a funny response.
“Oui, I might not have his fluff, but that doesn’t make me any less attractive. Come on, you. I think it’s time for bed!” Remembering what the Butterfly said, he began to walk off with her, but stopped as he was passing Tails, giving him a wink, “Think you could help Shadow out in the ruins? I’ll catch up with you two.”
“But what about Amy?” Tails shook his head, turning to Sonic. “Em-mm, I think I’ll wait for you, Shadow should go on ahead of us.”
He looked to Shadow who was dusting himself off, not really sure how he was able to tolerate that and then looked to Tails with a nod.
Tails smiled, happy he wasn’t too frazzled by Amy’s actions and then looked back to Sonic. “I’m sure it’ll be fine! I’ll go gather some more intel from the locals around here while you help Amy fight through the effects of the berries.”
“Alright, sounds like a plan!” Sonic agreed and took off.
After a moment of Amy being a rag-doll in his hands, he finally found a quiet enough place to set her down where the monsters that Eggman had released from the ruins weren’t all crawling around.
“Okay, this should do.” He set her down and squatted by her side, “Still missing the fluffy?”
She sniffed, but then yawned and began to stretch, unable to keep her balance and laid down.
“Okay, looks like we’re sitting down.” Sonic chuckled, sitting down and trying to keep her elevated. “Don’t get too used to this... But I doubt you understand anything I’m really saying, anyway.” He helped lift her head up to his shoulder, cradling her back a moment before helping it upright before it sank into him.
“You tried yet?”
“Nooo..!” she shifted her head and body, but it was clear she was extremely tried.
“Is that so?”
“I want... I ... Emm...” she kept moving around, and Sonic couldn’t seem to stop her from squirming.
“I know, I know... Fluffy isn’t coming though, so don’t rub it in...” He lightly rubbed his chest, a moment of being self-aware of an obvious difference before-
“I want someone to hold me..!” she cried out, “I want to be loved...” she flopped to the side, and Sonic stopped to stare at her a moment.
In Amy’s fingertips, she could finally feel a little bit of the grass now. She could also feel the crossed leg jammed into her stomach to keep her from fully toppling over.
She wasn’t aware of her surroundings, or who she was with, but the thoughts just blurted out from her mouth, and she was suddenly very anxious and talkative.
“I know.” the voice was muffled in her plugged ears... her head was warm and her cheeks even more so. In a daze, she turned to the voice, but the light was too bright and his shape was lost by its stinging presence.
“Ah..!” she tried to whack the light away, but the voice just chuckled.
“What are you reaching for?” he joked.
“Someone... a memory...” She hiccuped and fell back down.
Seeing her so disoriented, he sighed and pulled her back up again.
Her quills brushed against his bare shoulder and he tried to breathe a little deeper, thinking her heartrate might get affected by it and lull her to sleep.
She did hear the thumping of something, and adjusted her head a few times, scraping against something soft and comforting...
His chin moved to stop her from rubbing against it as she spoke up once again. “What if... What if the most... handsomest man in the world hugged you? Wouldn’t that be great?! Would you feel... lwovwed?~” she slurred the word, causing Sonic to tilt his head a second.
“No, I can honestly say that when I hug myself, I feel relatively the same.” he kid, snickering to himself.
Her eyelids looked as though they were about to slowly blink asleep, but instead opened again and squirmed to get comfortable once more against him.
She didn’t seem to comprehend the joke in her current state, so he let it slide, sighing and looking up at the sky.
“I’ve gotta get back to Tails and Shadow soon...”
“Shaw...doe?”
“Mr. Fluffy.”
“Ah. Not the little boy.” she yawned, slinking down to the ground again as he quickly moved away to let her do so.
He lifted a leg away and watched her slip under it to lay down. He lifted himself up, not wanting to disturb her soft decent and then smiled, moving away and looking over her.
His gaze was caring and cautious of her surroundings, he couldn’t help but notice her head flop to the side and a beautiful silhouette of her peaceful body began to take shape.
He watched as, almost instantly, her light breaths and gentle adjustments showed she was falling asleep.
“...What boy?” Sonic found himself asking, not really sure why.
“...Hmph.” she seemed almost asleep before he spoke, but curiosity got the better of him.
“...Have you ever been in love?” she asked.
He blinked.
There was a moment of silence, and he realized if he remained silent, she would just fall asleep, and he’d miss a grand opportunity.
“Have you?”
She shifted her body again, showing that she was struggling to remain awake after almost succumbing to sleep.
“Once... A long time ago~” she yawned, stretching her hand out a moment before turning to him, her head just by his back.
He leaned a little further up, now looming almost over her.
For some reason, she could feel his interest and complete attention on her. Her body getting some feeling back... her consciousness still waning a bit.
“A little boy?” Something had changed in his voice, and as she blinked to look up at the bluish shape over her, she was still blinded by the light and quickly shut them again.
“Yeah... He used to look at me a certain way. He doesn’t anymore.”
She placed a hand on him, and that heartbeat she had heard earlier, the drums had suddenly changed rhythm.
“...I’ve got a bit of news for you...” He smiled, leaning down by her ear as she slowly began to slip into the allure of sleep.
He hoped she was loopy enough to not remember this next part.
“But when you’re not looking...” He leaned down to whisper into her ear, about to get up and dash off any moment now.
“He still looks at you like that.” When the rush of wind brought a cold shiver up her exposed back, she slowly opened her eyes.
Amy Rose had fully conquered the berries' effects, and as her vision cleared, she gently looked off at a blur of blue streaking across the once painful light of the day.
Would he be gone long..? She didn’t know.
Later, she heard something like a helicopter but opened her eyes to realize Tails and Sonic had returned for her. They must have not left her long and helped her up.
Later on, after Eggman was defeated and they were celebrating, Amy was caught up in the joy that she had almost forgotten to stop and look over at Sonic.
In a flash, his eyes were removed from her and taken back to Tails.
She held her stare... was he really just looking at her? Was it the way he had when he was young?
She was still embarrassed by what happened, but she never forgot those words he whispered to her... thinking she was still fully under the effects of the berries.
“He still looks at you like that.”
‘Sonic,’ she wondered, placing a hand to her quickening heartbeat as her eyes never left him. ‘...Have you ever been in love?’
“Ehem.”
She tensed up and turned when she heard the voice, clearly trying to get her attention.
“Sha-Shadow!” she blushed and bowed profusely, “I’m so sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry!”
He turned his head with a scoff from his nose, “Pay no mind to that.” He seemed to let it go, but Amy stared at his chest fur a moment before growing embarrassed and straightening up again.
“S-sorry!” she bowed again, not daring to get up from it.
He sighed, “Those berries you digested... they weren’t... a magenta color... right?”
Amy blinked, and then slowly rose her face up.
There was a strange red to his face...
Uh-oh...

✨💕 One Starry Night 🌌🖤
: ©️jeonsluttyonii
It was a starry, beautiful night, the moon was full on the streets of Seoul Korea. As you walked along the streets of Korea enjoying the Spring warm/cool air you received a message, you take out your phone as you seen the message was nun other than you’re best friend, taehyung. You and Tae have been sending each other a lot of mixed feelings lately, you two would share a lot of fun, laughs with the other members and even he would invite you for coffee and out to eat.
The times where he would ask you out to eat and places he would always send you a dress to wear, because he knows you, your style, what you like, dislike, your pet peeves and your insecurities, he knows everything about you as you knew everything about him, you two share a very very strong bond for each other and you can’t help but smile at the memories you share, someone accidentally bumps into you taking you out of your train of thoughts.
You texted him back:
You: “Hiii Tae! What’s Sup?”
TaeTae: “hey wanna come over and watch movies in my room? Tannie is asleep in JKs room”
You: “hehe sure thing! I’ll be their in 10 minutes”
TaeTae: “hehe okie! See you then (;”
~ End Of Messages ~
You felt a smile grow on your face so you decide to head back to your apartment really quickly and change. As you hurry unlocking the door putting down ur bag as you went into your closet to find something to wear, you thought he was in his pajamas so you decided to wear shorts long stocks and the lace bra he bought for you for your 22nd Birthday. Black was his color that he chose for you so you smirked as you get changed quickly.
You checked your phone it was “9:50pm” it was still early so you decided to take a shower as you showered you wondered why would he be calling you over to watch a movie in his room? On his bed? You have never been in his apartment before, the boys share an apartment so it’ll be your first time so you wanted to make it a special night.
After your shower you simply packed the shorts and bra in your little backpack as you put on a mini skirt with your white tank top and a jersey and head on out to your car. As you get in your car you started the engine as you turned on your playlist, singularity came on and it already makes you think of Tae, as you drove out of the parking lot and into the streets of Soul.
During the car ride almost to the boys apartment your mind was wandering, is your bestie really a freak? You’ve had many thoughts like this before but never at this dull moment, could Tae really have plans to do something with you? I mean sure you two always joke and laugh a lot but maybe he could be a freak. But you shake that feeling out of your mind and continue your journey up the hills of the boys apartment, you had finally arrived, nervous to even get out the car, you sat in the car for a few minutes as you collect your thoughts and breath in and out turning the car off.
You got out, taking your mini backpack with you as soon as you locked the door, the door of the apartment flew open as you see two people running towards you like they wanted to kidnap you, until you heard a voice
“OMGGGG ITS Y/N!!!!”
You look and see it was Hobi as he came and gave you the biggest hug after Hobi came Jimin as they both gave you a big hug which made you smile, they pulled from the hug as they guide you inside the house. As you walked in your face immediately dropped, it was so pretty, smelled like summer breeze with cherry blossom scent as you seen yoongi and namjoon on the couch, Jungkook was helping Jin clean as jimin closed the door behind you.
“Guys!! Look who’s finally here!! I’m so happy you came so what do you think? Do you like it?”
Jimin smiles asking you a million questions as the members look and saw you and you smiled nodding at jimin in response as everyone came to greet you.
Everyone except Tae, you didn’t see him where the boys were, so you just kept talking to the boys to by past the time, until you heard a loud “HEY!!” Everyone stopped and moved out the way, you saw him.
Kim. Taehyung.
You couldn’t help but stare, his messy hair, his baggy clothes he wore with his silk pants that fits his so well as he came towards you and the members he gives you a genuine yet gentle smile making your heart warm as you gave him a hug like you haven’t seen him in a long time and he whispers “i missed you so much y/n, welcome”
You smiled enjoying his embrace as his arms wrapped around you guiding you towards his room he says his good nights as you entered his room you were surprised, his room is huge, the bed was a nice size as he has a projector in his room like an actual theater as he locked his room door to prevent his member’s from coming in he walks to you and smiles.
“Tae, you have a nice room and it’s so aesthetically pleasing and relaxing, better than my apartment I’ll say that”
You giggled and so did he as he sits on his bed looking for a movie for you two to watch he asks you
“So did you bring your night clothes?”
How did he know.... you nodded your head as you jumped on the bed where he was still searching for a movie for you two to watch, he says “you can change in the bathroom Bestie! I’ll be here finding us a movie to watch okay?”
You nodded as you head towards the bathroom turning on the lights closing the door, you don’t know why but you felt the butterflies in your stomach as you change from your skirt to the shorts and socks and the bra he bought for you, you smirked as you put your hair into a ponytail, putting your clothes in your bag as you walked out.
“Hey y/n I thought maybe we could- watch- oh my goodness-“
His words started to fade as you came out the bathroom he couldn’t help but stare and your body as you started to feel a little nervous, this was your first time showing off your body, and your breasts fits well with the bra he bought you as you put your bag down you saw his glare as you blushed.
“T-Tae? Don’t stare like that- it’s rude you tubby custard” you stick your tongue out as he snapped from his trans as you made it to his bed he starts the movie forgot to even tell you what movie you two were watching.
The movie you two watched was one of your fav movies ever since it came out Sonic The Hedgehog as you two watched the movie you shared laughs and smiles you felt his arm going around your waist, you getting flustered as you made a little noise to his reaction, he smiled as you blushed a little.
As the movie was ending you have already fallen asleep, resting your head on his pillows as his arm was still wrapped around you, as you moved you started to have fallen into a deep sleep, into your dream, as you were dreaming you felt like it was all real, you had a dream where Tae was kissing your lips as his was so nice, soft and wet, as the kiss gets deeper he starts to go down on your neck sucking and giving it soft kisses as he marks you, he goes down as you heard him saying something you couldn’t make out what he said but it was in a deep voice.
As he keeps going down you feel as if he was pulling your shorts down along side with your panties making you shy, as you started to wake up you realize it wasn’t a dream... it was all happening while you were asleep, with your eyes still trying to open you you seen his fingers in his mouth as one of his wet fingers traces your core making you jump and moan a little as he sees you are awake he smirks and crawls back to you.
“Y/N listen, i know you like me, and I know what you are feeling, and honestly, I feel the same way about you, but this, i don’t know what you were planning but...it worked and I can’t help but love every inch of you..”
Tae with his deep voice making your body feel as if it was on fire making your desires growing into a deeper passion, your core was burning needed his touch, needing him nothing even matters but his love and his desires for you. You whined a little bit rubbing your core onto his hands as he slaps your pussy making you whine a bit.
He shakes his head no as he starts taking off his shirt seeing his body makes you even more needy than before, you can see the bulge in his silky pants making your mouth water and your thoughts run, as he sits down in a position as he motions you to come to him.
“Be a good little kitty and suck me off, that’s if you dare want me to fuck you so badly”
You didn’t hesitate, you teased him kissing his soft lips as you rubbed your hands on his grown print, as he groans in anticipation, as you went down you tugged on his pants, noticing he wasn’t wearing any underwear you pulled his pants down as his dick sprung hitting his stomach your eyes widen, seeing this size you knew your best friend was big but not “THIS” big, so you take it into your hand as you looked at it seeing the precum, coming out you licked the tip blushing as he groans in pleasures.
As you kitty licked the tip, you started to take his length into your mouth as you pulled back up slowly looking at him with your eyes as he bit his lips so you continue to suck him off, the moist noises making in the room filled up alongside with his groaning you moan a little while sucking as he takes a full hand of your hair speeding of the pace.
As you gagged as he slowly pulls you up, saliva was falling from your mouth to his tip and he formed a smirk across his face
“God look at you, I never seen my own best friend this nasty, you must want daddy’s cock huh?”
His words are so deep, as he pushed you back on your back as he gets on top of you planting kissing down your neck all the way to your core he can see the wet marks were running down your tights as he smirks and goes down to your heated sex, swiping one tongue licking it making you jump and relive a moan he grabbed both of your tights as he started to suck on your clit making you moan as he starts licking your folds putting in one finger making you grab the bedsheets as your pussy makes noises filling the quiet room as ur moans were making up for most of it.
As you feel that you were about to reach your climax he stops and pulls his fingers out making you taste your juices while looking at him
“Wow you are this wet, needy and submissive for me? Y/N, this was the right time to show you how much of a dom I can be and your such a submissive girl, but you do be doing bad things and all bad things Must Be Punished.... on all fours now”
As you did what he says you arched your back showing off your back dimples that formed his hands rubbing your nice shaped ass, as if he has always wanted to touch it before, you felt the sensation of his hands rubbing your ass until you heard a loud smack across one cheek making you jolt and cry in pain to pleasure
“Just hearing you cry in pain for me just makes me wanna keep going, such a good little girl for me”
As he smacks it again making you jump, he continues to do this until he starts running his dick along your folds making you need and hot and as he went in as it tries to fit you have never had sex before and it was your first time
“T-Tae, p-please be gentle this- AH TAE”
You screamed and your arch went deeper as Tae finally put it all in, making you cry a little and in pain because of how big he was, he started to move his hips in a rough way making you cry for mercy, but once you have gotten used to it, the pain went to pleasures making you moan he went out making you feel empty and need and goes back in harder making you throw your head back for pleasure.
As Tae gripped your waist pulling you back and forth making skins meeting each other making you moan for his name, one of his hands was reach to your neck making you look up at him as he pounds your tight little pussy harder making you moan in so much pleasure the room was practically filled with noise as he pulls you in for a kiss he keeps going as he makes your pussy feel like heaven.
He pulls from the kiss and slams into you making you fall down as he flips you over and now your laying on your back facing him, he gives himself a handjob before entering back into your entrance, slowly and teasing you as his dick was all the way in he starts moving his hips as you position yourself to meet with his as you felt great pleasure into the heated sex you two are having it’s was “12:59AM” and you two were sharing the most memorable moment of them all, he starts to buck his hips hitting your core which caused you to moan his name.
He couldn’t help but pull you up close to him as the position was different causing you to moan a lot more
“Tell me, what’s my name? who’s fucking you this good?”
You couldn’t barley even speak a sentence as the pleasure was too unbearable making you moan and lose your thought, you took too long to answer as he smacked your ass with one hand causing you to throw your head back
“no hesitation, now, what’s my name?”
He says as he makes you look at him with his beautiful eyes as you spoke up “d-daddy...” while moaning with the little breath you had you feel your walls clutching tightly onto his dick
“T- daddy...I’m a-about t-to c-“
You couldn’t speak anymore because the wave of passion and pleasure was taking over as he knew what was happening he stopped moving as he positioned himself and his hips thrusting faster and faster going harder and harder into you as the skin noises was getting louder you both moan in pleasure as you both reached your climax at the same time making you both exhausted.
You both fell onto the bed, Tae got the blankets and turned on his AC as you both covered up and cuddle together, out of breath as you both looked up and saw his room was filled with stars because he has a star projector, he smiled as he embraced your scent and after math of what happened.
With the last breath you had left before falling asleep you told him
“Tae, I love you...”
As you feel asleep, Tae smiles and kisses your forehead and gets comfortable, before he fell asleep he told you while you were asleep.
“I wanna be with you y/n...together and forever”
As he cuddles you to sleep not leaving your side it was a beautiful moment you both cherished with each other especially when you have been friends for so long, you both felt glad you had the chance to even go out with one another.

Dancing With The Devil…The Art of Starting Over first listen thoughts:
General album thoughts:
As a whole I enjoyed this album. In fact, there were aspects, most notably the collaborations, that I enjoyed far more than I expected to. It was definitely different sonically than I was expected it to be with mixed results. I do also wish that Still Have Me, Commander In Chief and I Love Me made it onto the album, even as deluxe tracks. As it stands, I think I’d place it 3rd in my subjective Demi Lovato album rankings behind Tell Me You Love Me and DEMI, and 2nd behind Tell Me You Love Me for a more objectively better put together album. In saying that, I could definitely see that changing as I have more time with these songs.
Individual song thoughts:
Anyone: I’m going to be honest, I feel like I have not liked this song as much as the rest of the fandom from day one. Not to say it’s a bad song, but I just have not fallen in love with it like the fandom seemed to and like I have with other songs. In saying that, I’ve found it has somewhat grown on me, especially when I’m in the right (or wrong I guess seeing as I have to relate to it) mood. Today is not one of those days. I will however say that I think it was the right choice for the opening track, especially with how well it contrasts the closing track Good Place.
Dancing With The Devil: It’s kinda funny, I love the production to the album version of this song better than the live one but there’s something about the way Demi sings the live version that makes it flow better in my opinion. Like especially the “but I was lying” lyrics. I don’t know if that makes sense, but yeah, hopefully one day we get the best of both worlds. Either way this is definitely a top half track for me and I think it’s probably my favourite vocal performance on the album at this point.
ICU (Madison’s Lullaby): I thought I was going to cry on my first listen when I first found out this was going to be a track. I barely did not, but it was very close. Honestly, I don’t know how often if at all that I will listen to this song because it reminds me of my estranged sister and is just generally painful. But, in saying that, I think it’s potentially the most important track on this album and I can completely understand if it becomes a fan favourite because it is a fundamental Demi song.
Intro: I’m gonna be honest, I feel like this was a bit unnecessary. Like I get that it’s meant to be the breaking point/clear indication of where her ‘old life’ ended and ‘new life’ began but yeah, it just feels like it repeats ICU and The Art Of Starting Over.
The Art Of Starting Over: This is one of the tracks I didn’t love as much as I expected to. It has a good meaning behind it and like in theory I should love it, but sonically it isn’t my favourite and lyrically I guess I just expected more.
Lonely People: This is another track I’m not really feeling at the moment. To be honest, lyrically it just sounds like an edgy teenage song up until the outro and sonically it’s just not my thing.
The Way You Don’t Look At Me: The fact Julia Michaels worked on this song should surprise no one. It is very Julia Michaels. Thematically it kinda reminds me of Tolerate It by Taylor Swift. I can thankfully say that while this is something I’ve related to in the past, I no longer do, but that past experience has definitely made it one of my favourites on the album at this point.
Melon Cake: This song is one I feel will grow on me. Like I wasn’t immediately drawn to it but it has sonic aspects that I liked and could see growing even more on me and lyrically it’s relatable. So yeah, I guess we’ll see how it goes but don’t be surprised if you see this jumping up my song rankings in the next few weeks.
Met Him Last Night: When I heard we were getting an Ariana collaboration, I was kinda nervous. It would have been so easy to place Demi and Ariana on a pop track and tried to make it a number one hit when both their voices are more suited to this kind of sound. So I’m glad they went the direction they did. Though I’m not a big Ariana fan, and realistically think that collaborations usually take away more than they add, this one really works. Vocally, Demi and Ariana support each other really well and I love its production. It is currently my favourite collaboration and one of my favourite overall tracks of the album.
What Other People Say: This is another track which is good, but I feel like I’d enjoy more if I related to it more. I mean I can definitely relate to the idea of not being who I wanted/thought I’d be as a kid, but honestly? For me that’s more to do with societal things outside of my control (the economy, job market, my family falling apart, mental healthy etc) not because of other people’s opinions. If anything, I feel like I care far less what people think of me now than when I was younger. So yeah, there’s a bit of a disconnect on that front, but like I said, it’s a decent enough song nonetheless and I probably wouldn’t skip it if it came on shuffle.
Carefully: This is definitely a top track for me. There’s nothing in particular that makes it that way, I just love the production, Demi’s vocals and the lyrics and think they go really well together. It’s also super relatable.
The Kind Of Lover I Am: Again, I am unsurprised Julia Michaels worked on this. This is a track that I could either see growing on me or getting old very easily with no in between. Like it feels similar to Melon Cake in that the production feels it could grow on me but lyrically it’s not my favourite and I really am not feeling the outro voice audio at this point. It is nice to get an explicitly queer song though.
Easy: This is another collaboration that worked better than I was expecting. Lyrically, I feel like this was one of the simpler songs, but it really works not just for the production and vocals, but given the song is about something seeming easy when in reality, there’s so many pieces that makes it harder/bigger than it actually is. It is also really relatable and I can see myself listening to it for years to come.
15 Minutes: This song encompasses the meaning of an ‘okay’ track. Like it’s not the worst thing I’ve ever heard and the general meaning is relatable, but I just don’t really see myself going back to it and honestly? I think it’s by far the weakest track of the album. And maybe that’s somewhat the point, to acknowledge someone, but not give them the energy they crave past that. Either way, it’s personally not for me.
My Girlfriends Are Boyfriends: This is probably my least favourite of the collaborations, but that doesn’t make it a bad song. It feels very 2000s throwback to me and I could see myself listening to it when I’m in the mood, but I’ll have to be in the mood. One of my first thoughts was I do hope that Little Mix covers it at some point though because it feels very much their style and I’d love to hear the differences.
California Sober: To be honest, I had the feeling when this song was announced that it wasn’t going to be a favourite, and it isn’t. The verses and bridge are good lyrically, but production wise and chorus I just found myself bored if I’m honest.
Mad World: I wasn’t expecting this to be a cover, even when I saw this title in the tracklist. I find it interesting that Demi placed it here and not earlier in the album. Either way, as per usual, Demi vocally slayed it.
Butterfly: This song is another track that I feel is good and cute but I think I will truly love when I relate to it. Though I was expecting a song about her father in the album and perhaps some talk about the ways she is alike to him, this is definitely a lot simpler/happier/at peace than I was expecting. And obviously that’s a good thing and feels very right coming after Father. But yeah, like I said, I am definitely not at that point myself and don’t feel like I will fully appreciate this song until I am.
Good Place: As I said, this song is such a good contrast for Anyone and works extremely well as a closer for the standard version of the album. It is very relatable and honestly a vibe. Again, there’s not one particular part of this song that stands out to me, the production, lyrics and vocals all just work together really nicely.
I’m Sorry: I haven’t listened to the deluxe album yet so I can’t talk about Change You yet, but I did hear I’m Sorry when it leaked a few months back. Personally it’s one of my favourites of the unreleased Demi tracks I’ve heard and while I no longer relate to it in a way I have in the past, I’m really glad it made it onto an album because I could see it helping a lot of people getting out of toxic relationships of all kinds.

After tragedy, One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson is finally in a ‘good place in life’ — and ready to rock
While most boy bands only spawn one major solo superstar — think Justin Timberlake from *NSYNC, or Ricky Martin from Menudo — the men of One Direction have bucked those odds. Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and Liam Payne have all found success, in genres ranging from R&B and EDM to folk-pop and retro rock, since 1D went on indefinite hiatus in 2016. But one member, Louis Tomlinson, has kept a relatively lower profile. “I've tried to!” he laughs softly, speaking to Yahoo Entertainment about his much-anticipated new solo music.
“I had a couple of things in my personal life which made momentum a little bit more difficult, naturally,” says Tomlinson, now age 27. He is referring to the loss of his mother, Johannah Deakin (who died from leukemia at age 43, the same year of 1D’s split), followed by the fatal overdose of his 18-year-old sister, Félicité, earlier this year. Only one week before Félicité’s death, Tomlinson had released the single “Two of Us,” a heartbreaking ballad dedicated to his mother. He once described this “darkest s***” period in his life as his “rock bottom” during an interview with The Guardian. But as he readies his debut solo album, out in January 31 next year with a world tour to follow, Tomlinson says he’s no longer writing from a place of mourning. While the album, WALLS, will contain “light and shade,” fans can mostly expect anthemic rockers with “plenty of guitars,” like the ‘90s-style Britpop banger “Kill My Mind” and the just-released buoyant terrace-chant “We Made It.”
“I touched on [grief] with ‘Two of Us,’ but I definitely kind of told that story with that,” Tomlinson explains. “I felt like I needed to get that off my chest creatively in my songwriting because around that time, it was hard for anything to feel more important, obviously, than that. ‘Two of Us’ is an important song for me, but I understand how heavy it is — emotionally, for me to sing, and for some people to listen to. … I don't think for a while I'll be going near anything else too heavy emotionally; I'm not really that way inclined. I want to make songs that make people feel good, you know what I mean? I'm conscious of trying to make happier songs, definitely. What I've learned about the writing process is you can't write a happy song if you don't feel happy. And I feel like I'm in a good place in my life, and naturally with that comes happier songs. So I think it all depends on what headspace you're in, really, at the time.”
Tomlinson is clearly in a rock ‘n’ roll headspace at the moment. To tease the release of “Kill My Mind” last month, the proud Northerner made a Spotify playlist of his influences that included Oasis (“probably forever my favorite band”), the La’s, James, the Verve, Arctic Monkeys, the Smiths, “Tomorrow Never Knows” by the Beatles, and newer artists like Sam Fender, the Courteneers, and Catfish & the Bottlemen — and “Kill My Mind” and “We Made It” wouldn’t sound at all out of place on a playlist alongside those Britrock luminaries.
Tomlinson is well aware that going in a rock direction is a risk, though he believes “music definitely works in cycles” and rock ‘n’ roll will “definitely be back.” In terms of speculating why the type of music he heard on mainstream radio as a kid — like Oasis and Amy Winehouse — has fallen out of favor commercially, he speculates, “Well, we're in a in a very, very PC era, and some of those bands were a little bit reckless, a little bit crazy.” Regardless, it’s possible that Tomlinson could educate the “super-f***ing-dedicated” One Direction fans about ‘90s/early-2000s indie the same way Styles’s debut album was a gateway to ‘70s glam and classic rock, or Horan’s was an introduction to more mature singer-songwriter sounds.
“That's why it's important for me to make those playlists, because I do often get messages from my fans saying they hadn't heard of this band or this artist before,” he says. “And I think that's really important. That's really cool. That helps them get to know me even better. … Harry, I think in terms of the music he's making, I think that's incredible and I'm sure the fans have then gone to look at other bands that have influenced him on his album. And I actually saw it firsthand when I went to watch Niall live — it must have been like maybe over a year ago now. There were some really great musical moments in that show, and I was thinking about the contrast of that show with a One Direction show. I was watching the girls at the front just absorbing this musical moment, and I thought that was really cool, really interesting. I think that is important, for all of us.”
Tomlinson knows “there is definitely a bit of music snobbery” when it comes to a former boy band star doing rock ‘n’ roll — he once joked to the BBC that Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys would be mortified would be mortified to be cited as one of Tomlinson’s core influences — but he says, “I think you've just got to kind of earn your stripes as an artist, and be honest and be real — and whoever likes you, great. Whoever doesn't, well, it is what it is, I suppose.”
Tomlinson has been pleased by the initial response to his new sound. “I was feeling really, really f***ing proud about ‘Kill My Mind’ and the reaction on that. It makes me feel really good to do something that is true to my influences and get a good reaction. Some people were a little bit shocked, but that's exciting, you know what I mean? That's the way it should be with music.” Still, he doesn’t seem too concerned if his music doesn’t reach the commercial level of One Direction in their post-X Factor heyday.
“In terms of kind of chasing radio, I feel like I've done a lot of that. To be honest, out of all the songs I've got on the [forthcoming solo] album, ‘We Made It’ probably is the best equipped melodically for radio, so we'll see how that goes. But I'm not as precious as I used to be about all that,” he says. “To be fair, I fell out of love with music a little bit, and I actually kind of come back ‘round to finding bands that I used to love, and finding new bands. And I had a bit of an epiphany with music and with my music. I thought, instead of making music for other people, I should start making music for myself and what I really love. So it feels really refreshing to be able to do that.”
Tomlinson’s album will feature production from both longtime 1D collaborator Julian Bunetta and Ben’s Brother frontman Jamie Hartman, who has worked with Lewis Capaldi, Rag ‘n’ Bone Man, Rachel Yamagata, James Bay, Andy Grammer, Joss Stone, and Parachute). “Jamie is just an amazing producer, and I think he really understood me musically,” Tomlinson gushes. As for what to expect from the record, he says, “I'm always trying to be as honest and as relatable as possible, and sonically, I always want it to feel as live and as authentic as possible. It's been a long time in the making now, but I'm really happy with it as a body of work.
“I'd been used to releasing an album a year with [One Direction], and I didn't realize until I got into it just how much of a perfectionist I was going to be about my first album, and what it says about me and what it represents. I've been maybe at times too much of a perfectionist, and it's taken a little bit longer than it should have. But I'm kind of all right with that, because I'm really, really proud of where it is now. I never want the feeling of releasing an album and feeling like there's two or three fillers on there. I'm really happy with every track on the album now. So I think it was hopefully worth the wait.”
