#have been playing with talullah's family

One thing I’m really curious about is how the creators themselves view the story in light of certain people being removed from the series.

Warning: I’m going to talk about those-who-shall-not-be-named (Wilbur and Forever)

Because here’s the thing. The whole reason these people have been removed from the series is to reduce their reach to hurt both the collective audience and their peer creators, and with that comes a decision to cut them from the narrative completely so that they don’t gain even a little of that notoriety and power back through association.

And so if they choose to completely retcon them out- as a lot of the community has chosen to do- I totally get that. In a lot of ways it’s the right choice- story and history be damned. At the end of the day nothing in a silly Minecraft story is important as real people’s lives, and I think (hope) all of the creators and writers left on QSMP seem to agree with that.

But… I also recognize that they have- to differing degrees- been part of HUGE parts of the QSMP story, both overall and in different characters lives, and unless we all collectively erase like 60% of the series so far, they will continue to be there in the history.

Like, on the lesser impact side, you have Wilbur, one of the original train-riding islanders, an original member of the Death Family, originally the only father of Talullah. He may been so absent that it became a running joke on the server, but if you cut every mention of him completely, Tallulah’s story and growth over the past year disintegrate underneath her. Tallulah was very specifically an only child of a single father, dealing with the constant feeling of loneliness in his absence, growing disillusioned with the world as he broke his promises and never came back for her, but also growing closer to her family as she learned what constant care and nurturing actually looks like through Phil. I’m all for her being fully adopted by Death Family now and taking more and more traits from Phil and Missa, but that new identity as part of their family is the conclusion of her story, not the beginning. While Missa is away a lot of time, he’s not absent in a way that’s fair or fitting to impose her story on to him.

Really the only choice is to disregard everything from the beginning and basically retcon her story entirely, or take the story as it is and let Wilbur be there. Although now the story has still changed a little with his removal because now he’s a deadbeat who made empty promises and couldn’t bring himself to do more than play house for a couple weeks and be possessive and toxic when he came back one time when she was missing- which feels like a pretty honest interpretation given what we know now.

But then there’s Forever. One of the Favela Five, a major face in and winner of the long series election arc, the face and President of both the islanders and Federation, one of the main characters in the Happy Pills/Eggs Missing arc, and one of the original parents of Richarlyson. He isn’t just a part of the QSMP history, he’s heavily intertwined with most of the server story between the early days and the Purgatory arc. Even interpersonally, he was deeply involved with Badboyhalo, Cellbit, Pac and to an extent Philza, and that’s just who I remember off the top of my head.

Where as Wilbur is only able to be found in the details in the little house he built for his daughter and the memories of the family she built, Forever’s influence is everywhere you look in the old parts of the server- his face on the Federation building, his projects littered around the spawn and his base and the Favela, the Favela it self built next to a man-made ocean he carved out of the landscape (if I remember correctly). I don’t want to overstate this and imply that he’s the most important character of the server or something because he’s definitely not, but it is true that as president he was deeply involved in and invested in the stories happening around him and removing him completely from history takes a lot of that history with him.

And choosing whether or not to remove his character is even harder than Wilbur’s because his character on the server was genuinely a good person. He was caring, charismatic, ambitious and visionary, he was both a leader and friend to a lot of the characters (and creators really), and in the end his character simply died trying to do what was right for his family.

I don’t know, I don’t really want their stories to stay relevant to the QSMP. Maybe I’m overthinking their relevance. Maybe the creators will continue to just ignore it. Maybe when we get the writers back and they’re properly paid for their work they’ll have the creative energy needed to rework their histories in a satisfying way without them- that’s what I hope at least.

In a way this post is kind of just a little thought experiment- a little moment of reflection on history if you will, just a moment before we’re faced with the changing tides of this server again.

Maybe I'm a little bitter. Perhaps.

But it does frustrate me when people claim BBH was the ONLY one who cared for all the eggs.

I feel like it takes away from all of the parents efforts on the behalf of all of the eggs safety. I remember when every hand was on deck at every moment for every kid at a moments notice.

Yes. He played the most, therefore he had literally every material needed and all the enchants and all the armor you could ask for. But to claim he was the best and only one who cared isn't fair to the other parents.

They gave all they could at any time they could for those kids.

They'd drop everything to take care of them.

Idk, maybe I'm just irritable after everything going on but it's kinda driving me crazy.

Yes I know he was THE babysitter. Yes I know he spent a ton of time with every egg. But comparing his time played to other parents who gave all they could is fucked up.

I saw people claiming he was a better dad than so many parents and saying things like "they're basically his eggs anyways"

Also. No. He wasn't there for every single eggs departure.

He wasn't there for Chay.

Yes I know he wanted to be. But couldn't due to schedules ect ect.

and while he said goodbye to lullah the day before he ALSO didn't send her off.

Again, maybe I'm fucking bitter. But this Fandom for some reason always seemed okay with dismissing Chay all the time. From his admins being changed up to playing multiple roles.

He just wasn't as important to so many fucking people and I think I'm gonna stay mad about that for a while.

I'm aware that he's done a lot. I'm not saying he hasn't.

But holy shit, give credit to others besides bbh. He's spectacular reguardless, genuinely a great guy. But holy shit this has been bothering me.

Tbh i’ve seen many people say Bbh cared for all the eggs but not that many who’ve said he was the only one ?

I think I agree in the sense that QSMP fandom sometimes tends to label anything as a parental relationship when it doesn’t need to be?

Like sometimes a caretaker doesn’t have to be a parent sometimes a caretaker is just the neighbourhoods demon babysitter and that doesn’t mean the relationship is less than or more than a parental one. One of my favourite aspects of qsmp is that family took many many many forms and it doesn’t have to be labelled as parent/child always.

To draw a comparison, I know there are some people who were upset Bbh adopted Pomme but I never minded it, I just wish more people had taken interest in her relationship with the french speakers, but I still don’t mind all the talk around her relationship with qBbh

Also I kinda like that Chay’s and Talullah’s admins goodbyes were only with Philza, death family forever ! Plus the eggs being gone happened in very specifics and weird conditions, that can’t only be analysed through an in character eye.

But I agree Chayanne is a very under appreciated egg, personally i really like the little guy :(

4. Who's your favourite egg duo?

It’s got to be Chayanne and Tallulah. I love my Death Family siblings. They are so much fun together and they play off of each other very well! Still love the time they wrote “Whatever Talullah wants”/“Whatever Chayanne wants” when asked what they wanted to do.

6. Who's your favourite duo?

Man that’s a hard one…..I think it would have to be Foolish and Jaiden because the levels of Silly went up 1000% percent when they were together. I also loved how much they trusted one another with their secrets, as well as supporting each other for being more fed-aligned than the rest of the island for one reason or another.

9. What’s your favorite build?

Cellbit’s castle hands down. I loved watching Foolish and Cellbit build it and Cellbit getting to experience the insanity that is Foolish after hours of building. Plus the way it grew and changed over time was great! The entity rooms, Maid the Komodo dragon’s room, Richas’s art room, Ironmouse’s apartment. All of them mean so much to me! That and it was a great place for people to just hang out, like when several of them were waiting for the server to close and they just sat in the dining area telling stories.

11. What’s been your favorite arc so far?

I really loved Cellbit’s Enigma arc, it was early on in learning about the Federation so everything felt so suspenseful and dangerous. Plus it was fun watching Cellbit go nuts over puzzles for several hours a day!

1815 is a whirlwind of a year. talullah rejects nathanial’s marriage proposal several months before the birth of their twin sons, whistler and uriah. only a few days after said birth, libbie littledoe dies, effectively leaving the bancroft family without its matriarch. the tragical loss motivates the bancroft sisters to reconnect. by 1822, ophelia has finally separated from her husband at the urging of her sisters and newfound neighborhood. as 1823′s particularly scorching summer fades to autumn, talullah and nathanial leak news of their engagement — that’s right, she finally said yes.

i’m pretty sure @cassimopeia tagged me a million years ago, and i have no idea who’s done it already, so i’ll tag ... @simming-in-the-rain and @funkyllama​ and literally anyone else who sees this and wants to join :^) more of you should be history simmers, so like ... get on it ! 

 1. what has been your favorite time period to play in or which one are you most excited for?

oof ! i loved the 1890s-1910s because i got to live out my gilded age dreams with the og generation of my legacy family—as i say every day, i can’t wait to catch back up to them, whenever i finally do more casual gameplay. the bancrofts are technically stuck in the 1840s and 2010s. looking forward to getting through the civil war era ! as far as the story is concerned, i’m fantasizing about the fifties and sixties but also someday reaching present day ... 

2. do you have a favorite piece of historical cc?

hm. this is too hard. can i just list my favorite creators instead ?? everything by happylifesims gilded-ghosts, and linzlu make me immeasurably happy. 

3. who is your favorite sim currently?

beatriz. she’s spicy, a lil unhinged, a big meanie. goddess. 

4. what is your favorite world?

windenburg or sulani? i used to hate oasis springs but then i decided to set my story in a desert-y place for some godforsaken reason, so it’s growing on me. brindleton bay or whatever it’s called is, for me personally, also v/ underrated.   5. are you more gameplay or story focused?

story, tragically ! i miss gameplay, but i also feel like i won’t be able to avoid using poses and stuff even when i decide to return to my legacy gameplay. EXHIBIT A.  6. do you like to play with pets in your historical saves?

there are a few in my legacy gameplay; the ... second set of founders who are actually the real founders had a dog whose name i forgot, and talullah has a cat called sugarplum. jered and his family have a dog, who’s actually francesca’s, and his name is damien. i always forget about the pets, which means my sims forget about them, and so i don’t involve many. love to make them chase after strays tho ...  7. what's your biggest immersion breaking pet peeve with the game?

echoing tara that cell phones SUCK. honestly, tho, it’s probably when ugly townies i forgot to delete wander into the frame. makes me livid, u kno.  8. what's your favorite in-game historical item?

idk what this question means bc it’s 5:30pm on a wednesday BUT i like the clothesline and the wash basin from laundry day or whatever it’s called.  9. what would you like to see as a new pack or asset to the game?

uhhhhhhh ... more non-western build items ? it’s limiting when it comes to worldbuilding !   10. what pack do you think is invaluable as a historical simmer?

tbh, i feel like there’s not one that i would miss for history-related reasons. the laundry day stuff is helpful, like i mentioned, but idk ...  11. do you have a favorite mod to enhance historical gameplay?

this is random and more a general gameplay thing, but the one that lets you make groups bigger without earning points or whatever is ... so good. i put all of my family members in a group, and then i can make them have family get togethers all the time ! i honestly haven’t done gameplay in so long, i’ve forgotten how to answer this question.  12. what's your ideal family size for playing?

five or six, i guess? enough that i can despise one of them, periodically ignore them, and alternate between who’s my favorite of the week. i get bored if i don’t have enough family members to mess with, which i think is why i like to keep track of the extended family.  13. do you use poses?

with the story, absolutely ! with my legacy stuff ... originally, no, because i was doing purely gameplay stuff and only sharing screenshots with my irl friend. more recently, i’ve done some staged posts with jered, so i guess somewhat? when i actually play with my legacy saves, no poses. but, like i said, that might change going forward bc i’m obsessed with them. i have a whole storyline to play through anyway, so like ... insert kissy face emoji.

never tried it ! maybe sometime.

long. i get attached ! occasionally i switch to normal. aging is off for story things since i move things along manually according to the pace of the story. the death of my legacy sims is always a whole entire affair, so i like to prologue it. for example, jered’s father was my main sim for literal years, so i had a few real human tears when he died dhsjkflgs

the most basic answer is that i started following royal simblrs by chance and, despite my irl gut-level distaste for monarchies, wanted to write my own ! additionally, having finally invested in a sims-exclusive gaming laptop and with free time on my hands, i could finally play sims regularly. so !!!!!! cut to me revisiting my spin-off and making another spin-off of it.

re: messages and meanings ... to an extent, no ? partly, bringing in a new family was an opportunity to diversify my bancroft family legacy more, so i suppose i wanted to think about a non-white, not-strictly-european royal story ... that’s less a message than a mission, tho ! if there is any messaging atm, it’s subliminal sjdkfklkdhgfg

as of late, i’ve been so caught up in making story posts that i haven’t really played much ! before i started this story, i definitely played a lot more, mainly the three saves i have for my legacy. i alternate between the 1830s generation, the 1920s generation, and the 2000s generation. to be honest, i do miss my babies talullah and jered, so i might do a bit of gameplay in the other decades once my queue is fully stocked !

hm ... it depends ! i often bang out a post in one night, but i usually let it marinate in my drafts for a few days. if i have to make my own poses or pose a ton of sims, then it takes a bit longer. i have a sticky relationship with my writing, so i agonize over that for at least a day before i’m ready to post. catch me rewriting a queued post literally 5 minutes before it’s set to drop—

NOT GIVING IT A PROPER NAME ! i wish i had a slick, catchy name for it, or just something to ties it up in a nice bow. if i may do a lil shoutout: imo, the best story title is @cyberth0t’s “inheritance.” stroke of genius. reminds me of hbo’s succession, whose title i also love.

another would be .... not planning anything in advance adjfhgklad i have truly been flying by the seat of my pants until literally the other day when, in a burst of inspiration while waiting on takeout enchiladas, it all came together in my notes app :^) i like what mr. game of thrones said about writers, the architects and the gardeners. i think i’m an architect, but ... lmao. insert clown face emoji here.
