It's Thursday!! Ever wondered how the name 'Fascinator' came about?🤔😀 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The term fascinator first surfaced in the fashion world in 17th-century Europe. Back then, it referred to a lacy scarf women wrapped around their heads (or "fastened," hence the name).😜 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Rather than attracting stares from across the room, this version of the hat was meant to give women an alluring air of mystery...(now you understand why it fascinates you?😜😀) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ By the mid 20th-century, a slew of new hat styles hit the scene, leaving both the term fascinator and the garment it described to fall out of fashion.😢 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In the 1960s, a New York milliner named John P. John decided it was time for the fascinator to make a comeback. Instead of thinking about the headpiece in its original sense, however, he used the name to rebrand the petite cocktail hats that were known at the time as clip-hats or half-hats.(thanks John. P. Its Thursday!!.......Still on felt!!😀 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Yet another myth holds that the animals on Noah’s ark shed their fleece during the voyage and trampled it underfoot, after which Noah discovered the floor of his ark carpeted with felt..........now it has been linked to the Bible, who are we to judge?😂😂😂 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Anyway, each of these stories we have read however refers to the necessary steps needed to make felt, that is ; fleece, moisture and compression, but none of these stories are true, as archaeological evidence has proven the existence of felt before Christianity was widespread. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Well, bottom line is that Felt has been existence long before other fabrics and it's very versatile! Still on Felts!😀 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Ok, legend has it that felt was accidentally invented when St Clement, the patron Saint of Hatters and St. Christopher, the patron Saint of travellers, in the midst of escape from persecution by the Romans, wrapped their feet in wool to prevent blisters( it turned to sock??)🙄🙄😜😀😀 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Another has it that a Persian shepherd, who, sure that his sheep’s wool could be made into waterproof mats without the aid of a loom, tried without success to get the fibers to stick together. Crying with frustration, he stamped on the fleece, at which point it finally held together(i must commend this man's conviction and persistence!)😜😂😂 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Quite some tales right?😀😀 One more coming up next Thursday! Other textiles such as silk, rayon, linen and cotton are made by spinning fibers into threads and weaving them into fabric. Did you know that Felt has been used for producing headwear for many centuries and is perhaps the oldest textile material?. ... Wool felt, Fur felt and Beaver felt. Beaver felt hats date back as far as the 14th Century with the majority of production being based in Holland and Spain. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Felts come in hood(crown) and capeline(crown and brim). Wool felts are cheaper. Fur felt are finer and you get better results using them, but you pay more for it. Mousseline felt is more hairier........ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I have always been fascinated with felt hats especially on cowboys (Clint Eastwood lovers chop 👊)😂😂.
