John decided it was time for the fascinator to make a comeback. Its Thursday!!.......Still on felt!!😀 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Yet another myth holds that the animals on Noah’s ark shed their fleece during the voyage and trampled it underfoot, after which Noah discovered the floor of his ark carpeted with felt..........now it has been linked to the Bible, who are we to judge?😂😂😂 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Anyway, each of these stories we have read however refers to the necessary steps needed to make felt, that is ; fleece, moisture and compression, but none of these stories are true, as archaeological evidence has proven the existence of felt before Christianity was widespread. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Well, bottom line is that Felt has been existence long before other fabrics and it's very versatile! Still continuing our series, how some hats or fascinators stay on the head, especially the tilted ones; ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The third way in which hats stay on the head is with Combs. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ One of the more classic ways of keeping on a hat which is traditionally worn further back on the head, such as a pillbox style, is with combs. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When your fascinator has a comb, the comb goes forward towards your face, so it can sit properly attached to your hair without falling off or being blown away! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Hair Combs comes in different forms shapes and sizes, with some being plastic while some are metal made. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The only drawback with Combs is when your hair is braided with an extension. Hats(fascinators, pillboxes,hatinators and cocktails) comes in different shapes and sizes. Oftentimes, these whimsical fancies give the impression that they are defying gravity; suspended in mid-air atop the head. Ever wondered how some hats or fascinators stay on the head, especially the tilted ones? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We are going to be looking at 4 ways in the next series of Thursdays:- ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The most common way(probably) to attach a fascinator is with a Headband or what we call Alice Bands. They come in different shapes and sizes ( swipe to see 👉👉👉) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The milliner can choose to make the headband very narrow so that it blends in with the wearers hair or incorporate the headband into the design itself for a more seamless look.😁 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ One of the advantage of using a headband is one can be sure the hat is perched just so. Today let's look at how the name "Macaroni " came about 😀In the mid-18th century, “macaroni” was a disparaging term used to describe someone who we might now refer to as a "hipster"(someone trendy, stylish or progressive in an unconventional way). Skinny men wearing tight pants, short coats, flashy shoes, striped socks, fancy canes, and last but not least, their trademark exaggerated wigs flooded the streets of England in the 1760s.😀😀 The comical caricatures of that age, swipe to see👉👉👉 portrayed people from the upper classes of England wearing giant wigs with funny looking miniature tricorn hats on top and thick pigtails attached from behind( see the hat in the pictures?) This foolish trend was started by young British aristocrats returning from the Grand Tour, which was a trip across Continental Europe taken by some with the intention of broadening their horizons and deepening their cultural knowledge. As a result, along with their homecoming, a weird looking and yet stylish sense of fashion gradually emerged in England, consisting of people with large wigs and slim clothing as well as a strong passion for the then-little-known Italian pasta from which they got their name😂😂 These men, who had developed a taste for macaroni on their Grand Tour, used the word, until then reserved for the Italian dish, with a far broader significance. Anything fashionable or �� la mode, they would call “very macaroni"!😀😀 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Chai!! Too detailed a trim can make your overall look too 'busy'.  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A headband can be very problematic for securing the headpiece if you wear glasses because the headband won't fit comfortably behind your ears. One particularly good technique is to plait the hair into a fishtail braid and sculpt around the headpiece. As a rule of thumb, women who have long hair are best to put it up into a chignon or Donut when wearing a headpiece. This will generate a much neater look and allow you to fasten the headpiece with an elastic band behind the hair. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Elastic is a wonderful way to secure the headpiece. It's more subtle than a headband, yet just as secure when fitted properly. The elastic goes behind the head and underneath the hair which can then be styled in a chignon. Please note, the elastic does not go underneath your chin!😜😀 . . Some people might want to ask if it's a must you hide your elastic.. For me, i would say it's not really necessary because you might just want to be able to remove your fascinator after that function and still have a great hair-do instead of carrying it till you get home....
