i'll say upfront: this is a pretty serious thing to happen. our chancellor fired our minister of finance, Lindner, which definitively breaks up the governing coalition. germany will likely have snap elections at a moment in which far-right parties are polling extremely well. if news coverage about it seems like people are Worried, that's because, well, they are.

however. the reason it's funny is because our minister of finance was fired. ministers aren't really... ever fired. like, it's not a done thing. i'll fully admit i didn't even know it was an option until yesterday. and our minister of finance wasn't just anyone, he was one of the most mocked and hated figures in politics to germans who vote anywhere left of center.

the coalition that governed until yesterday was made up of the green party, the social democrats, and the neoliberal party (FDP). the FDP is infamous (and i mean, my parents already raised me to hate them for that) for playing kingmaker in coalition governments: they never get all that many votes, but they get just enough that whoever they agree to form a government with will probably succeed. they then tend to force extreme concessions from their coalition partners, because hey, if we walk off, you can't govern at all! so you better play along!

for the past three years, this behaviour has been extremely frustrating for germans who voted for greens or social democrats, because policy from their faction was constantly being blocked by the FDP and often by Lindner personally. the FDP received 11,5% of votes in 2021, but to many of us, it felt as if they were the only party who really had any say in the governing coalition. it made the green and social democratic coalition partners look spineless and passive.

and now, i invite you to imagine how on the day of the US election results, the day the whole world rolled their eyes at the sheer fucking stupidity and pointlessness of it all, at NINE IN THE EVENING, just as germans are getting ready to settle in to bed to dream of nightmare global politics -

the news suddenly breaks that our notoriously invisible chancellor just decided to fire Lindner for that exact behaviour. this chancellor comes out and says, on camera, to the entire sleepy nation, that acting the way Lindner did - blocking necessary policies, refusing to approve budgets unless his party's interests were met - was childish, selfish, irresponsible, and unfit for government, so, whoops, he had to go. shame. coalition over, i guess.

so, politically, that was a long-needed but never-expected moment of triumph for those of us who think the FDP is a clown show made up of human TESLA shares, and it came at a hysterically funny moment.

on a personal level, i can barely explain how uniquely hateable Lindner has always been. he's what would happen if a stock index graph came to life. he hates poor people with a relish; he mocks welfare recipients and would ax minimum wages in a second. he's everyone's business major roommate who shows up in boat shoes fresh off a yacht to discuss NFTs with you. throughout the entire time that he's used his rich boy policy blackmail strategy, he's been smug about it, and he was never taken to task for it, and millions of germans have been longing to throw rotten fruit in his face since 2017. and now we finally get to do it. via memes. on the day of trump's election win.

so that's why it's funny.

I've explained it multiple times - I didn't redeem Lila because I like her or something, I redeemed her because in Scarlet Lady, keeping her like her canon self would've made her superfluous. Redundant. Pointless.

I have Chloe to fuck things up in Marinette and Adrien's civilian life (AND superhero life!), what do I need an evil Lila for? Honestly if her intro episode wasn't explicitly tied to the introduction of Fu to [main character] and the Grimoire, I wouldn't have included Lila at all except that I thought it might be kinda fun. And guess what, it WAS! BWAHAHAHA!

I mean, I kinda wrote Friendly Good Lila the way I would've written Friendly Good Chloe, so, just squint a little and pretend Chloe Stans.

man i don't have time to get into it rn because i have to go hang out with my adorable niece but all I'll say is that even I was wrong about the sperm donor arc as it was airing and as of rewatching most of s6 I've come to appreciate it a lot more. i'll try and come back to this post and actually write out some of my thoughts at some point but not right now.

Blini (left), English pancake (right). I know they look similar but there is absolutely a texture and taste difference. I can imagine pancake day is fraught as well. John is a lemon and sugar classic guy, whereas Nik goes all out with Nutella, fruit, cream, and sometimes goes as far as to have a savoury one which is a court martial offence in John's humble opinion.

so it looks like he was mostly considering southampton until late 2009...when he switched to really wanting manchester or york (a total mystery why....)

despite him not retaking his psychology a level yet (which he should have needed to get into manchester because they required 3 As but dan only had 2 after he failed his psych exam) dan got unconditional acceptance into manchester uni feb 2010!

He forgot, he said he wouldnt but he did. Bucky forgot your anniversary because he was too caught up with work for congress. In his defence it's a hard and demanding job, but he promised you that he would be there and it's your 5 year anniversary for crying out-loud.

You sat alone at some fancy restaurant in the upper-side of DC, wearing a dress that Bucky bought you specifically for this night - this night that you were waiting for, for so long. He made you wait like a fool, you had to eat alone. It felt like everyone's eyes in the restaurant were on you, like they knew. Some article will probably be plastered everywhere with your face on every newspaper talking about how idiotic you were waiting for him.

You came back alone, shedding off your coat - spotting the wilting flowers that Bucky bought you a few days ago. There were no flowers to replace them, you had to toss them out. You got changed out of your dress, out of your makeup that you spent too long on, your hair that you recently got cut but he didn't notice.

You were sitting alone on the couch, watching some sappy romance movie that Bucky would hate, but he wasn't here to say anything or commentate so why should you care.

That's when you heard the front door unlock, he was home - you had to face the music now. He'd shed off his jacket, hanging it up. He'd walk over to you, loosening his tie. A short, urgent kiss was placed to the side of your face, "Hey, doll." "..Are you forgetting anything?" You said, not looking away from the tv - he'd turn around, confused. "What?--" You'd look over to him, a frown on your face - he really forgot?

He'd think it over for a moment, before looking at the calendar nearby. "Shit-- baby.. oh god, I'm so sorry, doll." He'd step towards you, but you simply just looked back to the tv. "I'm really sorry, I completely lost track of time-- I had alot of work to do." "I know." "Doll.. you're upset." "I'm not upset." "You are, you have that pout on your face." "I have the right to upset." You said a bit too harshly, "I didnt say you didn't." "I'll make it up to you, okay?" You'd simply turn off the tv, standing up. "Doll.." He'd try to reach out and grab your hand, "I'm going to bed, Happy Anniversary, Buck." You'd walk off to your bedroom, knowing that sleep could divert your thoughts from all this.

You felt the tears prickling up in your eyes almost instinctively when you walked into the bedroom, closing the door behind you - you know that he didnt do this on purpose and felt guilty but you just felt so dumb for all of it. You'd sit down on the bed, your head held in your hands as you just sobbed.

And Bucky was on the other side of the door, hearing you cry all because of him and he felt horrible but didnt want to talk to you just yet - he had a plan.

The next morning, you woke up - Bucky didn't join you in bed that night, you felt guilty. You got out of bed, doing your skincare and brushing out your hair in the bathroom. When you walked out of the bedroom, you noticed that the vase that originally had the wilted flowers in it that you threw out the night before was replaced with fresh red roses. As you looked into the living room, the doors that opened to the patio were open - revealing Bucky sitting down outside on a picnic blanket an assortment of snacks beside him.

You'd walk over to him, "What's all this?--" "An apology for me being a dick and forgetting our anniversary.." "Buck.." "Sit-- please?" He'd grab your hand, gently leading you down to sit beside you as he was trying to pick what snack to feed you. "Don't you have work?" "Family emergency.." "What?" "I called in saying I had a family emergency, which is kind of what this is if I want a family in the future." He'd joke, earning a small laugh from you. He'd hold a chocolate covered strawberry up to your mouth, you took a bite - nodding in approval. "Where'd you get all this food?" "You're full of questions today." You raised an eyebrow at him, "I called in some favours.." "Mhm.." You smiled at him, watching as he ran a hand through your hair. "Thank you for the roses, by the way." "Of course, doll.
