Fan Letter to Hasan Minaj
This is Hasan Minaj This is a fan letter to Hasan Minaj! I don’t watch much television, and certainly not late-night tv (I don’t stay up that late), but I have been enjoying the snippets of The Daily Show I get on Instagram. I loved Trevor Noah, and I imagine he is a tough act to follow, so in his wake the show has had a series of guest hosts. I always enjoy Wanda Sykes, who filled in for a…

Indian immigrants to Guyana in the 1800’s
To be precise, I am an Indo-Guyanese-American: The mother of all hyphenated identities and an illustration of a historic journey from India to the Caribbean. This heritage is commonly packaged in a number of different terms, all of which are heavily used as referential identifiers: Indo-Guyanese. Indo-Caribbean. Caribbean. West Indian. Indian. It is most aptly described as the Indo-Caribbean experience—an experience that is shared by Indians living throughout the Caribbean diaspora and thus serving as the blueprint for my existence.
This unique cultural disposition is why the Indo-Caribbean are able to culturally identify with public figures ranging from Hasan Minhaj to Nicki Minaj. It is why bursts of Caribbean intonation in Rihanna’s voice blanket me in the comfort of home, while the ballads of A.R. Rahman awaken pained demons within me, crying to connect with a history that was ripped from my hands long before I was born.
My parents hail from Guyana, a small country on the northern coast of South America. Guyana is one of the original colonies of the British West Indies and, although not located in the Caribbean Sea, the CARICOM Seat of Secretariat is located in Georgetown, Guyana, thus rendering the country a crucial member of the Caribbean family.  [Read more]

i keep thinking about... trevor noah maybe or hasan minaj or idk who but there was a presidential dinner for the news media last year or 2 years ago and they said something like "i wanna talk to the media journalists in the room, you're going to have to decide what time of reporter you want to be come election season" and it seems most mainstream reporters heard that and were like "got it, become a sell out" because the coverage in the media over biden's campaign was insufferable.

Ssssooooooo thoughts on The Riddler Secrets of the Dark
Spoilers and my own opinion underneath
So I'll start of the things I didn't like
1. Didnt like Batmans VA I loved Duke's voice it could have so much emotion and they seemed to let him have more reactions and what I mean by that is Duke would huff in annoyance or amusement you could hear his care for people in the words and way he said them his anger at those two guards made goosebumps crawl up my arms....this guy was a robot and just no fun like I could hear him trying to sounds teasing and the guy sounded like a high schooler in drama class he might be a good voice actor just not a good VA for Batman. The director and him might have been having a rough time of it or whatever. Also Im not sure if he was doing a Batman voice or not I'm one of those people who are okay if a va isn't doing a different voice for Bruce and Batman but he sounded like he was at least trying and not doing so well.
2. Eddie's sister her motive was so fucking weak like I get it what they where going for but they should have had some flashbacks of her dealing with the other rogues or at least their victims to make it a little more impactful maybe more about her husband other than he was Haitian and was a okay hand shaker I get they maybe trying for a she's on a edge too she might go over like Eddie (already did)
I do like the idea of Eddie having a sister though and the impact he had on her and her anger is def justified
3. How mean Alfred was- HEAR ME OUT HOLD ON just I know it's canon in several different Batman franchises that Alfred was apart of essentially British Ninja Network ( I remember M-6 is what they are actually) so I wanted to roll my eyes at his big ol speech at Eddie both of them tbh cause sure you can act like you had some moral high ground cause you killed for you country but I'm no patriot you killed people Alfred possibly people who where innocent or even if they weren't might of had family. I mean it does make it intriguing then cause the whole lonely speech could have taken interesting ways like Alfred might understand on some point where Eddie is (lonely) but that's just me
4. This might be the writing this might be the VA it it might both so I set this aside for something different but Bruce was wayyy too different in character for me if they had done this before Bruce's run in with ivy and his talking with Eddie I could believe it but this is supposed to be Bruce after that and he immediately fought Croc and was insistent on taking Eddie to the asylum....just no not our Bruce
THINGS I LIKE
1. Most of it lol I loved being back in the unburied verse
2. EDDIE MY MAN! Asshole (affectionate)
3. Waylon 🐊🐊🐊 I never really paid Croc much mind and I hate it his relationship with Eddie is a scream
4. Barbara's VA did a good job it took me a second to realize it was a different one from Unburied
5. The amount of time Eddie and Bruce had together in this one (going rabid at the fanfiction ideas guys)
Also I know Hasan Minaj has some allegations going around of him being a dick I guess, I don't condone that shit. I hope if it's true he apologizes and does what the victims feel they deserve in the situation.

Whatever opinion you have on Hasan Minaj, that journalist asking him if he thinks the FBI informant that was trying to entrap Muslims “deserved a heads up” for the attention he was gonna get when Minaj told the story about his friend? So evil. That’s so vile to write a piece that clearly is meant to discredit his experiences with racism in the most bad faith way possible while also being extremely concerned that a racist FBI informant needs protecting

We watched a Netflix special from I think Hasan Minaj a couple of years ago. In it, he pointed out that there is a way to calculate the number of times a person will see someone before they die. His example was parents: think of the number of times you see your parents per year. Consider an average lifespan, and multiply the years left by the visits per year. The result is a finite number, frighteningly small in the face of love.
I think about this a lot.
My 98yo grandmother has dementia. This is Dad’s mom, a woman who I have complicated feelings about. Visiting her and Grandpa was never as interesting as visiting my mom’s parents - less for a small kid to do - but she loved us and we loved her. Her diagnosis came a few years ago, and she’s since been in a memory care home. Over the last few months, the quality of care has significantly declined, so my aunts made the decision that one of them will take her into their home and care for her there until the end of her life. This aunt lives significantly out of state, and given my family’s ongoing caution regarding COVID, we will likely not visit. When Grandma leaves her current home, it’s understood we will not see her again.
Ordinarily, this would be a time for goodbyes and closure, but when Dad died, my aunts decided that it was kinder not to tell Grandma. Dad travelled a lot for work, so he was rarely home, and Grandma’s memory is such that she doesn’t remember who visited on a day-to-day basis. My aunts have been saying Dad is on another business trip, and that’s been accepted without question. We all agree this was a good decision and the best for Grandma’s mental health.
The hard part is that Dad is gone. Neither Mom, myself nor my sister have visited Grandma since Dad passed because while we’re all perfectly capable of lying, trying to come up with a reasonable story about why Dad is not there is damn near impossible to do without crying. So we just...haven’t gone.
Next month, Grandma is moving out of state, and we will not see her again.
Yesterday, I sat with Mom and Husbandthing and my aunt and uncle and we talked. Mom and I cried. I want to see Grandma, want to be a good grandchild and give my regards, because between COVID quarantines and a busy work schedule, it’s been four years since I’ve seen her, but while I’m confident my brain could endure the visit, my body has recently had a habit of random crying jags that come out of nowhere. Grandma will ask which grandchild I am and I’ll say I’m Squid, your son’s daughter. She’ll ask about Dad and I’ll say he’s not here, and she’ll ask what he’s up to, and I will want to say that he’s five pounds of ash in a burlwood box in my sister’s childhood bedroom and I will be so angry that he’s gone, so furiously, ragingly angry that he went and fucking died I will start crying again and whatever lie I had prepared will die on my tongue.
So I’m not going. I have the opportunity to say goodbye, but I’m not taking it. I feel shitty, just absolutely wretched, but it’s kinder to both of us. That last visit Hasan Minaj talked about, the end of the calculation, is not now. It was four years ago, and I didn’t even know it. I didn’t know that when I kissed her cheek, I wouldn’t do it again.
These things are normal. This is life. She endures, and might endure for years. Who knows. I’m just feeling maudlin and sad. We transitioned Husbandthing’s mom to hospice last month. My dad has been gone for a year. There’s no way we could support tiny humans, but I’ve been fantasizing about a life with kids if only to have another link in the chain, if only so my family name doesn’t die with me.
Gah. Random blather at its finest. Time to go drink coffee and answer some email and watch the neighbor work on his car. We keep moving. We always keep moving.

So I watched "Annabelle Comes Home" on Oct. 2 but didn't livetweet it 'cause my dad called. He got y'all's livetweet in real time.
Yesterday, I watched "Mr. Boogedy" and didnt livetweet it because it sucked.
Today! The randomizer picked the new "Haunted Mansion" movie.
It was meh. The Muppets did it better
Spoilers and recap of the livetweet below the cut.
Angriest not-a-ghost tour I’ve ever seen.
Okay, I would actually enjoy this angry ghost tour probably. We do a bunch of ghost and historical walking tours. Also, this hummingbird story is legit the kind of thing people tell me when they say they saw a ghost once.
I like Rosario Dawson’s car and U-haul showing up during Ben’s angry not-a-ghost tour. Nice connection, Mouse.
Thank you, Rosario, for being sensible! Yes, you leave the obviously haunted house before everybody dies.
Fun fact: I was the “You’ll be back!” ghost (well, zombie) at a haunted hayride for several years.
Priest Owen Wilson’s cat is amazing. I want to pet them. They’re so fluffy!
Fr. Owen didn’t read the book. Victor never finished med school!
Action Guy absolutely reminded me of Abuelita with a chancla. So samesies!
Of course, the ghosts refuse to do anything when there’s a person around.
Why does everybody keep missing the ghost in the rearview mirror?
My dad also loves that show, dead sea captain! Like our father-daughter dance was to “Wanted Dead or Alive” because of it.
I know Ben’s pain. Don’t want to be in the house because it’s full of ghosts; don’t want to be outside because it’s too peopley.
He just wants to chill in your house and watch Deadliest Catch. Let him! *Ben opens door* Nevermind. Not cool, ghost.
Danny Devito! YES!
Harriet the Psychic matches every psychic I’ve ever met. This is exactly how my sister does her stuff.
They’ve already screwed up this seance. Don’t break the circle! That’s how y’all get possessed.
“Here’s a pen and pad I purchased at CVS.” This is almost as bad as the Hocus Pocus 2 scene in the Walgreens.
Ben, that is obviously some sort of ghost trick. That is not your wife.
Constance’s husbands’ heads disappearing from the photos is great. But I still prefer Taraji P. Henson’s version of her.
Fun fact: never leave your crystal ball uncovered when not in use. The sun may strike it and set your house on fire.
Sorry, Jamie Lee Curtis, but Miss Piggy did it better.
Is this ghost in middle school? Unscrewing the top of the Zataran’s like that? Also, I have the same seasoning in my house; it’s good, and that ghost should feel bad for messing with Rosario’s cooking like that.
The candle that’s blowing itself out looks really … phallic.
The product placement in this movie is wild. It’s so hard to take them seriously when Ben is sobbing the phrase “Baskin Robbins.”
Hasan Minaj! Why were you listed so early in the credits if this is your only scene?
Crump’s backstory is just wild. Of course he turned into Jared Leto with a backstory like that.
I like what they’ve done with the stretching room.
Winona Ryder? Are you doing a Linda Cardellini impression? Also, this is the worst tour I’ve ever seen. And I was once on a tour where the guy claimed the Civil War was still happening in the 1840s. Twenty years before it started.
Did that spider just scream?
More product placement. I actually like Burger King; their veggie burgers are really good.
Fr. Owen Wilson is going to federal prison. Like, that’s a felony. A pretty serious one if you perform a sacrament.
Prof. Danny Devito is obviously possessed. Ghost, you are really bad at your job. (Is scare people a job?)
OMG. It was almost the professor in the drawing room with the candlestick. Fortunately, Rosario saved the day.
More movies need evil Danny Devitos.
I know Travis is 9, but he’s the dumbest mofo ever.
Okay. I actually feel really bad now. I got depression too, buddy. That said, you don’t think it’s weird your dad sounds just like the Hatbox Ghost?
How did Crump kill a mummy? Did he kill a bunch of people at a costume party?
Is Fr. Owen riding Constance into battle? With her army of beheaded husbands?
Dead sea captain got his boat! Yay!
