"You Killed Bharat Mata In Manipur": Rahul Gandhi Attacks Centre
Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the Prime Minister over the ongoing unrest in Manipur which has claimed over a hundred lives.
New Delhi: The BJP has “murdered India in Manipur” and is now trying to set Haryana on fire, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said in Lok Sabha today in a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi government.
Addressing the Lower House during the debate on the no-confidence motion against the BJP government, Mr Gandhi said, “India is a voice, a voice of the heart. You have killed that voice in Manipur. You have murdered Bharat Mata in Manipur. You are traitors. My mother is sitting here. The other mother, Bharat Mata, you killed her in Manipur. That is why Prime Minister does not visit Manipur. You are not protectors of Bharat Mata, you are her killers.”
The Prime Minister has not gone to Manipur because he doesn’t consider it a part of India. You (BJP) have divided Manipur,” Mr Gandhi said, amid loud protests from the treasury benches. He alleged that the centre can stop the violence in Manipur by calling in the Army, but has not acted yet.
Invoking the epic Ramayana, Mr Gandhi said Ravan was not killed by Ram, but by his arrogance. “You have sprinkled kerosene everywhere, you have set fire to Manipur, you are now trying the same thing in Haryana,” he said, referring to recent communal clashes in Gurugram and Nuh that killed six people.
The remarks sparked a huge uproar in the House, with senior ministers demanding Mr Gandhi’s apology.
Earlier, Mr Gandhi said that when he set out on the Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu to Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, he was confident of his fitness and did not expect it to be difficult. “But this country does not tolerate arrogance. Within a few days, an old injury resurfaced and I was in pain,” he said.
The Congress leader recounted how he derived strength and courage from the people he met during the march and also felt their pain and hardship. Mr Gandhi also recounted his conversations with two women in the relief camps set up to shelter those displaced due to ethnic violence in Manipur.

Priyanka backs protesting wrestlers, says BJP's arrogance is "crushing voices"
Her remarks came after India's top wrestlers on Tuesday intensified their protest demanding the arrest of WFI chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
NEW DELHI: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday slammed the government over the protests by top wrestlers here, and asked whether it wants to save the culprits in the matter.
The Congress general secretary also said that the pleas of the sportspersons, who enhance the country’s honour were being ignored, and asserted that “when the arrogance of a party and its leaders” is sky high then such voices are crushed.
Her remarks came after India’s top wrestlers on Tuesday intensified their protest against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and asserted that they won’t leave the protest site until the WFI president, who is facing sexual harassment charges, is arrested.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notices to the Delhi government and others on a plea by seven women wrestlers alleging non-registration of an FIR over their sexual harassment allegations against the WFI president, saying these are “serious allegations” requiring its consideration.
Expressing support for the protesting wrestlers, Gandhi said that sportspersons are the pride of the country as when they win medals despite all the difficulties and after working tirelessly, “their victory is our victory” and the whole country smiles.
“The victories of women players are bigger than the rest. They are sitting on the road next to Parliament with tears in her eyes. No one is listening to their complaint against exploitation that has been going on for a long time,” Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi.
“These girls with strong arms and pure hearts believed the government when it told them that there would be an inquiry. But the investigation did not happen. The question of punishment did not arise at all. Does the government want to save the culprits?” the Congress leader said.
Whose pressure is there on the Delhi Police, Gandhi asked.
She also questioned why Opposition leaders are being questioned by the same police on hearing the pain of a girl during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, but the pleas of the sportspersons who enhance the country’s honour are ignored.
Her remarks were in reference to a Delhi Police team last month querying Congress leader Rahul Gandhi at his residence over his remark made during the Bharat Jodo Yatra that “women are still being sexually assaulted.”
The police team had asked him to provide information about the “victims” to take up their complaints.
“When the arrogance of a party and its leaders touches the sky, then such voices are crushed. Let’s support these sisters of ours. It is a matter of honour for the country,” Gandhi asserted.
The wrestlers, including Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, have also alleged that the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief is now resorting to strong-arm tactics and trying to break the “victims” by issuing threats and offering bribes.
Former Haryana Chief Minister and senior Congress Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Congress leader Udit Raj and CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat, who was stopped from joining the stir by the wrestlers in January, were welcomed by the wrestlers, at the protest site on Tuesday, a day after they had sought support from all quarters.

Rahul Gandhi-led ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ enters Himachal
The Rahul Gandhi-led ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ entered Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday morning with the senior Congress leader targeting the BJP-RSS combine and accusing it of spreading hatred, violence and fear in the country. After the march entered the state near Ghatota village, Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring handed over the flag to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and state Congress chief Pratibha Singh. Gandhi then addressed people gathered in Manser village to participate in the march and welcome him. “All the policies of the Union Government — demonetisation, GST and anti-farm laws — were aimed at benefiting three-four multi-millionaires,” he said. “Welfare of farmers, the youth and workers was not on the agenda,” Gandhi added. Braving the cold weather, hundreds of Congress workers, along with Chief Minister Sukhu, his deputy Mukesh Agnihotri, state party chief Pratibha Singh, state ministers and party MLAs, welcomed the yatra at the Manser toll plaza near Indora. Flanked by the state ministers on a foggy morning, Gandhi walked at a brisk pace amid sloganeering by enthusiastic party workers. Tight security arrangements were in place for the yatra and only select people were allowed to enter the security ring. Gandhi, however, interacted with people, especially the youngsters, along the march route, besides party leaders. “The two important issues of unemployment and inflation are brushed aside by the BJP. We started this yatra from Kanyakumari four months back to unite people and bring them together and raise these issues as we were not allowed to speak in Parliament. We could not raise the issues through the judiciary and the media as they are under pressure from the BJP,” he claimed. Gandhi said the Bharat Jodo Yatra was aimed at uniting the nation against communal and divisive forces and giving a befitting reply to the nefarious designs of the BJP and the RSS. “My aim is to unite the people and the nation against the anti-people policies of the BJP,” he added. “Earlier, Himachal Pradesh was not in the itinerary but we changed the route of the yatra to cover the state. Only one day was allotted and I feel more time should have been given, but the yatra is proposed to conclude in Kashmir on January 30 — the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi,” the Congress leader added. “It has been a learning experience and during the yatra, we made an attempt to know what is in the hearts of the people and focus on those issues,” he said. Later, Gandhi also visited the historic Shiva Temple at Kathgarh to pay obeisance. Meanwhile, state BJP chief Suresh Kashyap issued a statement here, ridiculing the Congress and claimed that since independence, the party has only tried to break India and its record is of “Bharat Todo”. The Congress leaders started scams from 1948 and those are still fresh in the minds of people, he added. The Congress march will cover 24 kilometres in the Indora assembly segment during the day and Gandhi is scheduled to address a public meeting at Malot village in the evening. Welcoming the yatra participants to the state and thanking Rahul Gandhi for including Himachal Pradesh in the march, Sukhu attributed the Congress’ victory to the party’s policies and the triumph of truth over lies. State Congress chief Pratibha Singh said the party has already started fulfilling its poll promises and the process to implement the Old Pension Scheme has been initiated. The march, which started from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu on September 7, spanning 3,570 kms, will conclude in Srinagar by January 30, with Gandhi hoisting the national flag in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. It has so far passed through Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
