(a little twist on this one)

“Pads,” Remus murmured, sliding his arm around his husband. Sirius leaned against him easily, always fitting perfectly against his side. It was a rare quiet moment at the Burrow, where everyone was involved in conversation, rather than creating chaos.

“Yes, Moonshine?” Sirius said. Remus nodded toward the worn armchair where Harry  was sitting with George. George was saying something in Harry’s ear and Harry was laughing in that open way that always reminded them of James.

“What do we think?”

“Hmm…looks like us, circa sixth year,” Sirius said, giving Remus a nostalgic smile. 

“That’s what I’m thinking…” Remus said. “You think they know?”

Just then, Ginny popped up behind the armchair, dropping an enchanted water balloon on Harry and George. “Get a room, you two!”

They jumped apart as George brandished his wand at Ginny, who took off cackling.

“No, I don’t,” Sirius said, aloud, grinning. “But I’m not going to be the one to tell them.”

It’s an understatement to say that the wizarding community was shocked when news broke that Harry Potter, 25, was currently dating George Weasley,27. No one had expected it, not after a particular tabloid had spun article after article of the Harry Potter being together with Viktor Krum, having pictured them drinking together at The Three Broomsticks. A month after that, there was gossip on how they had broken things up and that Cedric Diggory was the main cause of it.

That was utter rubbish, of course, considering that Harry has been dating George since he was twenty-one. They had kept in on the down low for the fun of it, both now prominent figures - Harry steadily climbing up the ladder of possibly being the youngest Senior Auror, and George crowned entrepeuner of the year with how successful Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes was doing.

Not even the family had an inkling, explosions of “how did we not know” breaking out, refusing to believe that they didn’t have any idea despite the fact that everyone got together for Christmas every year for a solid two weeks at The Burrow. Molly had been in tears, understandably, far too emotional and happy to manage a proper sentence.

Harry enters the kitchen and finds George perusing the paper with glee, cup of coffee in hand. He’s about to grab a cup for himself from the sink when he’s gently snagged by the waist, his boyfriend’s lap serving as a makeshift chair.

“Honestly, are you still reading that article?” But Harry can’t help but to smile fondly at the moving picture of George and he, thinking that this is probably the happiest he’s looked in the Daily Prophet.

“Come on, I’ve had to endure years of reading about you being paired with other men. Can’t I be happy that the truth is finally out?” George sets the paper down with a boyish grin.

“…I’ve not really ever pegged you as the jealous sort.”

“Shame.” George gently kisses Harry on the shoulder. “Remember that time you were in your fifth year and some bloke from Ravenclaw asked you to go to Hogsmeade with him?”

“…yeah, but he cancelled at the last minute because he wouldn’t stop itching…” Realization finally dawns on Harry. “It was you!”

“Good ol-fashioned itching powder all over his bed.”

“a-at least you both h-have brothers here, to protect you…” neville trailed off, almost longingly.

ron scoffed, looking at aleksander as if their friend had lost the plot completely.

“neville, neville, neville,” he said, “do you truly think that fred and george prewett are going to come rushing to my aid? do you think for a single moment that hari black is in aleksander potter’s corner just because they share blood? if we were in slytherin, maybe, but not now.”

neville frowned, “b-but aleks’ brother has been watching since we entered the great hall, s-still is. even t-though he’s gryffindor.”

aleksander braved a brief glance over at the slytherin table, desperate for neville’s words to ring true. the brothers’ eyes met, from opposite ends of the hall, and hari offered a tiny nod- truly, a blink and you miss it moment.

aleksander thought that was rather the point. it always was with hari. he cared about him in his own way, but he had a reputation to uphold. he cared for his other family, the blacks and the lestranges, and his slytherin friends publicly. any more than that was too much of a weakness to bare.

but aleksander knew, as truly as he knew his own name, that hari black would protect him. maybe in a dubiously legal and secretive way, but he would all the same.

as hari smirked, no doubt biting out something scathing and sarcastic and utterly inappropriately hilarious towards dante zabini that had cassius warrington looking scandalised, with george prewett’s arm thrown loosely round his shoulders as he and his twin cackled, aleksander felt something drift onto his lap.

making a brief glance down, he smiled at the little slip of parchment, recognising his brother’s impeccable loopy handwriting.

He allows the presence to get closer, closer…

Harry grabs at the arm that peeks around the curtain⁠—there’s a yelp and a flurry of swears⁠—and uses that leverage slam a squirming ginger against the shower wall, pinning him place with a forearm across his collarbone.

“George,” he says evenly, not at all surprised by the quarry he’s caught. “Which part of ‘I’ve been living in an active warzone’ made you think it’d be a good idea to sneak up on me in the shower?”

“Huh,” George says, unusually meek. He’s already soaked to the skin, his t-shirt and pajama pants clinging wetly to his frame as the spray from the shower continues to fall overhead. “I’ll admit, this might not’ve been the most well-thought out of pranks.”

Harry considers him for a long moment. He holds out his free hand and sure enough, a potion vial flies into it, dropped at some point during the brief scuffle.

“And what’s this supposed to do?” he asks. Glass vial, pale blue liquid, pink reflect, no time to brew so he already had it in his possession…

“It’s just a hair color potion,” George swears. “Innocent as they come!”

“Bit tame for you lot, though, isn’t it?” Harry muses, lifting a brow. 

“We thought you could do with a bit of a laugh,” George explains, a touch put out. “‘S’not like we’re trying to hurt you. In hindsight, we could’ve⁠—” He glances down towards where Harry’s still got his arm pinned across his chest, then glances lower. “—could’ve gone about it better,” he finishes, his voice not unlike a squeak.

Despite himself, Harry feels the corner of his mouth twitch up. “Hmm.”

Knowing better than to take his eyes off his target⁠—especially when that target’s a Weasley twin⁠—Harry lifts the vial to his mouth, uncorking it with his teeth.

“Just a color change?” he checks.

George swallows; Harry can feel his throat flex under his hold. 

“Just a color change,” he confirms. 

“Cheers, then,” Harry says, and downs the potion in one gulp. He doesn’t feel it take effect, which tracks with what he remembers, but a quick glance up tells him that his fringe has turned a vibrant shade of purple.

George is watching him with wide, almost fascinated eyes. “...Suits you,” he eventually says.

“Thanks,” Harry says with a wolfish grin. “Now get out of my shower.”

DESCRIPTION

When the Aurors from the Ministry finally show up to Hogwarts to help with the aftermath of the battle, they set their sights on Draco Malfoy. Harry and his friends protect him. This one action leads to Death dropping Harry, as well as everyone that was standing between Draco and the Aurors, back in time to 1978; the final year at Hogwarts for the Marauders.

Death wants Harry to talk to those there and get them to change the future. But Harry's pissed and tired and just wants to not feel so on edge anymore so he does the one thing he can; he gets in Albus Dumbledore's face and tells him to quite being a tool. More or less, anyway.

It somehow ends up turning out quite well for (practically) everyone.
