see and i understand what youre both saying but also the way i see it at the end of the day these characters dont exist in real life. when im upset abt is people being up my ass abt a “fake story” or me getting shit on for liking a fan-fiction rather than a published story. im not saying you cant like canon more and i respect it for what it is as the origin of the world we have all come to love but its still fiction. it created the story but how is it any more real than anything else. james potter isnt real. sirius black isnt real. harry potter isnt real. none of it is real so i just dont see why it matter what i choose to spend my time enjoying. like i said previously published media isnt anymore valid than unpublished media at least to me. i dont need someone else to tell me what is good or real. i will decide for myself what i like. (also from first hand experience some of the best writing ive ever read is a fan fiction and ive been an avid reader since i was really little) so i simply dont see how people can choose to degrade fan fiction readers and writers for just trying to expand on a world of characters they already love. like obviously i get loving the orginal story too i mean shit i have a harry potter in my bag at all times and ive read the series 7 times, but that still doesnt change the fact that it doesnt actually exist and how well known it is doesnt make it exist. give credit to canon for creating what we love but dont shit on fanon just because you see it as invalid by whatever personal criteria u run it by. also just to note, the whole post was a joke i was making because i kept having people trash on me for my marauders addiction like ofc i have big views on it but those are my personal views that i wasnt exactly planning on sharing with the world. i was just making a fun silly little post about how i like jegulus and idc what anyone else thinks about it. at the end of the day i dont give a fuck what media anyone wants to consume. do whatever the fuck you want just leave me out of it these are my views and my opinions so if you dont like them then stay off my blog (not targeted at u guys just saying in general)

so he’d probably notice you here and there starting in first year

but he was an eleven year old boy and girls were not on his radar right now

you were amazing

not only did you have James natural talent for the sport but that paired with Lily’s tactical thinking and quick mind

you were brought on the team as a seeker

and you were good at it too, but it wasn’t you’re favorite position

it entailed a lot of waiting and not really moving until you caught sight of the snitch

it was your excellent flying mixed with the fact that you literally had no sense of self preservation that made you a really good seeker

but when Harry showed up you were happy to give him your position as seeker and take on the more exciting (at least to you) job of chaser

idk i'll just write it down, no read more this time cause i don't want this to get deleted like the other one because i dont wanna type it out multiple times. like mentioned for the other post - take this with a grain of salt, as you should everyone's personal opinion, cause erring is human etc etc (kind of wanna make a post about that too):

so the thing about "death of the author" is that it seems like it sometimes gets misinterpreted as meaning "the author sucks and we should treat their work as a separate entity unrelated to them so that we can enjoy it in peace without having to think about the author's bigotry or shortcomings" - an argument i've seen especially often in regards to the Harry Potter books on here but applies to other works and authors as well - and also a dangerous sentiment imo because treating the work as separate from the author isnt suddenly gonna get rid of the bigotry that has already seeped into every line and every fibre of their work, in some obvious and some less obvious ways, but rather what this mindset will achieve is allowing teh reader to ignore these influences of bigotry because 'its ok if i see it as separate from the author and without their influence'. An authors influence is woven through all of their work, even of authors that are trying not to let their own personhood influence their creation (like for example some surrealists claimed to do) , so completelyseparating a work from its authors opinions, experiences and socio-economic circumstances is - imo - impossible.

that said, separating a work from its author in this way is not what "death of the author" is actually about. I am sure others on here have already put it more succinctly but basically "death of the author" means that as a reader you have to rely on your own analysis for interpretation of a work since you (usually) can't just go and ask the author what their intentions for their work were, a circumstance that essentially makes it irrelevant to a reader wether the author is still alive or not, because either way they will not be there to explain their every thought and intention behind each symbolism and metaphor in their work to you.

It means that as soon as it becomes distributed a work becomes separated from its author in the way that it is now open for interpretation for anyone that looks at it, that the author's intent is not the end all be all anymore since individual readers won't be able to always correctly gauge what the intent was anyways (unless an author includes a guide listing every intention and thought behind every single ever so small part of their work with it), that the reader's individual interpretation is subjectively valid and just as valid as the interpretation of every other reader. (although while all readers interpretations are subjectively valid , as they are the only interpretation the reader comes up with in the moment at least and that is something that holds merit, i would argue that there are interpetations that are more objectively true or succinct than others. its the same as with paintings - e.g. one person that doesnt know about the circumstances of the painting's creation might interpret Picasso's Guernica as a representation of depression or inner struggle, which is subjectively a valid interpretation for them as a viewer since it is what they felt when seeing the image and there is intrinsic truth to that connection as far as this individual viewer goes, but objectively this is a painting with a specific historical context intended to portray a specific historical event so the interpretation of it as such is the more "objectively true" one. But still each individual interpretation still is true and valid at the very least as a direct result of the individual viewer or reader's experience)

A book is an orphan in this way - it bears the name of its parent and creator but does not and can not explain the reasoning behind every one of their actions. An author may include a scene or description that may or may not be intended as something carrying symbolism, but wether or not it holds an intention like that is something the reader will never be able to tell with absolute certainty unless they somehow have the opportunity to ask the author about it, which most readers will not have.

Take the infamous "the curtains are blue" for an example: when you as a reader see this description of blue curtains you will not without a doubt know wether this description was meant to hold any symbolic meaning or wether the author added it for as simple a reason as enjoying the color blue and, if it does hold a symbic meaning, you will not without doubt know what the exact meaning the author intended was. You can guess and make logical conclusions based on context of the story, based on its historical and socio-economic background and based on the author's biographical data and their known opinions on things - all of this being part of literary analysis (although ofc you dont necessarily have to know all the context to analyse a work, there's even academic schools that insist you dont need that kind of context at all) - but even the writer of the best most detailed analysis of a work can never be completely certain that their interpretation lines up perfectly with the author's original intent, because in most cases said original intent can't be referenced exactly anymore.

so in conclusion: "death of the author" has to do with literary analysis and isn't a free pass for 'reclaiming' a work by a shitty creator, in fact the creators shittyness cannot be fully separated from their work cause it will have influenced their writing and should be kept in mind while reading and analyzing.

Hot take that will probably never been seen but I fucking hate the whole "You cant separate the artist from the art" type shit. I'm getting this mostly with the shit Amphibia has been dragged through lately and no I dont feel like elaborating (I might but honestly its hurtful to hear and I really disgusted by it).

But someone had said the show is not worth it to separate the art from the artist. And I heard the same for Harry Potter. I just dont agree with that?? Like, one, you cant really tell someone that something they love is a piece of shit, they don't believe it. Two, its really simple to say death to the artist and watch it with unbiased thoughts. And three, yeah obviously dont support it if the creator is a piece of shit who uses their money for something awful! Emulate games, watch their shit illegally. Dont give any once of cash to J.K. Rowling because she's a piece a shit who doesnt deserve a platform. But Harry Potter ment something special to people. Why cant they enjoy the media without being called transphobic because of it? (Albeit I dont like Harry Potter anymore, but its unreasonable to dehumanize everyone who even mentions enjoying it)

For me, Amphibia ment a fuck ton, and I will still make fanart of it. I love the fucking show, knowing what some creators did makes my blood boil but it honestly doesnt ruin the show, just the people. A lot of people watched Amphibia and loved it because it's a damn good fucking show.

Basically my whole issue is people trying to gatekeep content because of bad creators. I do appreciate content more when the creator isnt some horrible human being, but there are ways to enjoy said content without supporting it. Fucking pirate that shit and support etsy creators and not, you know, the actual creators if that's a huge deal.

Anyway, fuck the Amphibia crew who did what they did and the ones who knew about it and let them do it. A genuine fuck you.

did i say that? okay i dont remember saying this but i was just thinking about star trek vs. star wars debate so you read my mind ^-^ wait i remember now this was about the post that was like "can a star trek girl and a star wars girl really find love?" and i said NOOOOO!!!!

well i dont actually hate star wars fans because there are SO MANY different types of them right? like there are millions of 10 year old boys who love star wars and im not going to hate on them for that. I do get really annoyed by like the people who were disney adults and then just kinda migrated to star wars once the franchise was bought out, and now collect like baby yoda enamel pins or something idk. Like even thought star trek has old white men who kin picard at least we dont got anyone like that. and i feel like the majority of star wars fans are the disney adult type these days. I know star wars has mass appeal but to me its always felt like a kids franchise first and formost, so its a little extra cringe when adults devote their entire life to it. not to say kids dont also enjoy star trek, as i too was once a kid who liked the show, but its def geared towards adults more then star wars is. my dad brought up a great point the other day, for all the terrible terrible decisions star trek ever made, at least we never had a jar jar binks. i can rest well knowing that. and on that same note, i feel like a lot of star wars fans remind me of harry potter fans too? like maybe they really really like the franchise as a kid and still identify with it but only for nostalgic purposes. like obviously star wars was a HUGE part of a lot of peoples childhood (it was a huge part of mine) so now a lot of millennials just like keep that aesthetic. but its somehow still seen as like nerd culture which is weird to me because there is literally nothing nerdy about star wars anymore? its just way too mainstream to be nerdy. AND none of this is to say star trek isnt mainstream. like ive also talked about this before too, where star trek is one of the most like pop culturally mainstream type franchise and yet its now living through an era where you will be hard pressed to find someone who's still actively watching the show (unless you come on tumblr, thanks tumblr).

anyway this is mostly a joke. i know trekkies can be just as cringe as... uh star wars fans (i looked it up and apparently they dont have a fandom name. i think we should star calling them jar jar binkers) and vise versa. at the end of the day you can like whatever you want i dont care im literally just some guy. Also, the two medias are so different they probably shouldn't even be compares. like even the medium, star trek is primarily and episodic tv show and star wars in primarily a series of movies. however, i do believe that star trek is a more interesting and overall better franchise and you can rip that opinion from my cold dead hands. no surprise there tho

Sometimes, its really hard to keep yourself motivated. I know many people can relate at this. Social media can be, cold sometimes. Because, we actually dont know what people think about us,do we? I mean, i mostly dont know. Especially here in tumblr, well i dont use any other platform either jhgfghjkl Sure i have few friends here ,which is im SO grateful, but in majority idk how people see me, or my oc's. I also dont know if thats normal or bad or good.

Why am i talking about that?? Well its because today im kind of emotional. Today is my first years anniversary in tumblr, and i kinda wanna talk. Randomly.

My thirst for drawing started in last year in middleschool. I had many stories in my mind and i wanted to see them on paper. I wanted it so badly, so i tried. Of course i knew results wont be perfect, but i also didnt expected it to be that bad.

I tried many times, but surely not enough, and after many fails i gave up. I told myself "You are not talented for this Naz, you will never be. You are wasting your time and hurting yourself. Find something else."

And i did. I stopped trying. I didnt know this was the worst decision i can make.

İn my last year in highschool -which is one year ago from today- i was kiiinda depressed because of my univercity exam. I wasnt sure which one i wanted to go, i was just randomly studying for a good point in exam. But studying without knowing what you want to do was harder than i thought. When this covid thing happened and i had to stay in my room for months and just study, i just couldnt take it anymore.

I told myself "Fuck everything. Fuck it. You wont do anything good anyway."

I wanted to play some games to kill time, and finished few games. That was the time i remembered Hogwarts Mystery. And i downloaded again. And i fell in love with it.

Time to admit, back then i didnt watch any Hp movie, or read its books. No, i just knew the Harry Potter, saw few film scenes on tv but that it. So its safe to say i learned the Hp universe with Hphm, with Night. It was expected for me to want draw them.

And suprisingly i really started to draw. I didnt care how bad it was, i was already in bottom end i thought it cant be any worse.

And here i am. İn the end of my first year of univercity, studying comminication design, taking art classes, using little graphic tablet. With Night, i realized thats what i want to do. I also find the courage to come out as enby, with Night again. Look how my art changed, how Night changed in a year.

Sometimes i wonder what it would be like if i didnt gave up on drawing, back then when i was in middle school. Thats why im keep saying everyone i know to not stop, believing in theirselves.If you want to do something, that feeling will never leave you alone. You will always want to do it and will do it one day too. Just dont lose that much time like me.

Sooo as you can see, Night is pretty important to me, so Tumblr. Thats why i deeply care about mc's here, all the amazing people here. Because all of you are part of Night's life, at least in my eyes. Thats why a simple like on my art makes me feel happy for week, a simple comment makes me feel loved, cared, seen.

It pains me to find it hard to reach people here. Like most of us here, im not sure if im bothering someone, annoying someone, or talk too much or talk shit too much. It doesnt even makes sense most of times, dont worry i know. But i feel like it anyway. But its okay, isnt it?

I believe we need to let ourselves to feel negative things. To get rid off them. Thats what im doing it anyway. It also shows me how i have love for somethings in my heart, enough to get hurt by it. In its own weird way, im happy to feel that love. If a little negativity comes with it, who cares??

Im happy to be here, cant believe its been a year. I cant believe how my art changed during that time, how i changed.

Not sure how else to explain this but the whole idea that if you tell someone to stop hyperfixating on something or tell them that you cant consume certain things critically is ableist is bs.

Like, its very very centered around adhd people who have bigoted interests and value their fandom over actual support of oppressed people. Its very clear yall veiw adhd and autisitc people as children who " just cant help it" which is ableist. I personally am professionally diagnosed with adhd and autism, i cant fully control (to an extent) what i hyperfixate on but i can control my own actions.

Like recently, ive found myself wanting to go watch pewdiepie videos and rewatch the anime hetalia, both are things i HEAVILY hyperfixated on for 4 or more years. Both things are horribly racist and i am well aware of this now after their inital popularity waves have died out. However, i am mature enough to notice when my hyperfixation is about to start rehappening cause ive had it before.

Ive hyperfixated and unhyperfixated on fnaf and undertale on and off for years. I know what that first itch of " oooo... Im kinda getting attached again" feels like and any adhd or autisitc person CAN. Its litterally one of the first positive things about haveing these disorders that people notice. We know when a new interest has the potential of starting and wr can quite litterally feel it like every other person, nd or nt.

But the difference between a person who is using the whole argument of " i have adhd so you cant hold me morally responsible for supporting harry potter" as an excuse to keep helping a bigoted creator vs a mature adhd individual who can not control their hyperfixations is their actions after the intial " shit! its by a bad person/its bigoted!"

If someone with adhd and/or autism is drawing and posting fanart, buying shitloads of merch, making cosplays, posting about it, talking about it constantly to friends and reccommending it to people as being the holy grail of interesting things? Thats not critical consumption. Your just being a intentionally blind consumer. Even if they are re-entering an old interest and have old merch, your still wearing it out/posting it in public to advertise it to others.

Just cause i noticed that im wanting to rewatch hetalia or pewdiepie dosent mean i dont have the self control to go watch something or someone else that im interested in that isnt racist. People with adhd and autism have self control over these actions. Yeah we cant control if we start stimming or bouncing our legs cause we are getting hyper, but we can control who we watch and what we monetarily support.

I have old hetalia shirts, i dont wear them in public. Thats a pj shirt now because i dont want others to ask about hetalia and get interested in it because they saw me in it. I dont want to advertise that i was a dumb kid who liked a racist old anime. Liking hetalia isnt a good thing and i should feel at least abit of shame that i ever liked it.

Im not gonna shame my 13 yr old self for not noticing racism that wasnt blatant and hateful but instead romantizing nazi japan but im still gonna shame myself for not noticing racism period. Yeah, i do believe the 13 yr olds who still support dream and buy his shit and post fanart but think its ok cause they are " consuming critically" should feel ashamed. If you know you like something or someone regardless of their horrendously terrible actions, you should be ashamed of yourself. That dosent mean kick your ass about it but you should still feel that.

Basically, us adhd and autisitc people know when we are about to hyperfixate on something and we feel emotions strongly enough that if we find the bigotry in it to be bad enough, guilt will build up( as it SHOULD. Cause you are guilty of supporting a bigot.) Till we dont feel comfortable fuckin around with it anymore and boom! Hyperfixation gone. I was hyperfixating on fnaf till the shit about scott came out and suddenly, my hyperfix took a u-turn. I was starting to hyperfix on oran high school host club as i was watching it then they started saying tranny and being weirdly transphobic/homophobic and condoning/glorifying incest and boom! Hyperfix is dead in the water.

The thing about autisitc people is we tend to have our own strict moral code that we do NOT want to break. I dont think stealing from random people is a good thing so when i play a video game, i get crazy nervous trying to steal things. If i break one of my own morals, i feel like im rotting alive in anguish. I looked through my gfs phone once cause i suspected cheating, didnt find anything. I think looking through your partner's phone is a pretty shitty and invading thing unless cheating has already been a confirmed issue so i felt very guilty. Planned on staying quiet about it, didnt happen, i told her in under 10 minutes of it happening and she forgave me. We still feel bad for shit that happened when we were like 8.

So yeah, the only time an autistic person wont feel guilty about supporting bigoted work/bigoted artists shit is if that bigotry dosent go aginest that internal code. Yes, that autistic friend of yours who unapologetically supports dream, dosent think racism is bad enough to feel guilty about it. Its not that hard.

Another thing is that we can control our own actions. We arnt immature enough to just be utterly incapable of not watch pewdiepie 😭 when our brain remembers our old interests. We can control ourselves enough to understand that and not click on his videos. We are mature enough to sit down, sigh, remember his actions and the things he promotes, understand the harm he caused to many people, understand that if this hyperfixation is ignored that it will pass then click on a markiplier video and forget about it. Any adhd or autisitc person who tells you otherwise is either a. Not getting the help they need to cope,b. Telling you some bullshit just so youll stop asking why they think a racist is funny or c. Dosent actually care about the damage done by racists enough to feel moral guilt over supporting one.

Final note: people with adhd and autism, though can not control their hyperfixations, can control their own actions. They can stop themselves from consuming shitty bigoted content by shitty bigoted people and " critical consumption" is an excuse.

okay so im not a movie buff. there are so many movies i haven't seen lol

but my favorite movies when i was a teenager were the dark knight and the 2009 star trek movie and i still love those. also legally blonde. i tend to watch more horror movies now than anything else and the more recent ones i really enjoyed were like us and midsommar and hereditary i love bc i think it is ACTUALLY scary. oh and as above so below i did see in theaters in 2014 when i was high, completely didnt remember that at all, and then when i watched it years later on netflix i had like a shrimp memory of it and its definitely one of my favorites i rewatch it every year. harry potter has always been my comfort movies ive seen them all a million times. also omg how am i forgetting juno. this isnt a top 5 im just telling you the movies i like bc i really dont have a top 5. i do feel like most of the movies i consider favorites are ones i saw as a teenager and then watched a million times. i never do that anymore i feel like i don't connect with them the same way i used to i guess??? and when i was even younger my favorites were cheaper by the dozen and freaky friday lol. my favorite disney movie as a little kid was either cinderella (obsessed with the mice) and beauty and the beast. omg also wtf shrek and the grinch (2001) i saw both in theaters and have seen both a million times and i can recite practically every word from the grinch. and if we're talking about christmas movies i can also recite christmas vacation.

ik that wasnt the point of this but i really dont think i have 5 favorite movies as an adult.

OH and i almost forgot to say this but i only saw velvet goldmine once when we streamed it but i thought it was SOOOO good and i am psychoanalyzing gerard so much and i really wanna watch it again i just never have the attention span for movies when im watching by myself. so yea.

but somehow they have to work together to fix the leyline

Gansey and Harry both want to take the lead so

because of his magician status

I never look at stan twitter but i wanted to know what was up last night and just typing Colbys name made me sick at how toxic these teens are. Some with HIS name in their handles saying some of the rudest things.

All i gotta say is Colby Brock you poor boy now i understand why he barely tweets anymore, posts on instagram, or is as open as he was just a few years ago. Honestly its brave of him to even look at his @'s and reply to fans because i would just sit there fighting the urge to talk back to each of them or never reply at all. I hope he knows that Tumblr isnt like that, we may not want to talk to him here or want him to look at our stuff but we do appreciate him and Sam.

I don't know what's going on over there, but judging by how the rest of that app works when they decide to go into attack mode, I can assume it's unpleasant right now. I hope he just stays the hell off of there for a while. It'll be better for his and everyone's mental health in the long run, if they all take a break from one another.

I will say this, and it will be the last thing I say on the situation: he shouldn't have started blocking fan accounts, especially on that particular day. That was just bad form, especially because he's gone this far and this long without doing it, and it just wasn't a good look. He's always been the guy to preach rising above it all, and I'm sure that's hard to do when you're being attacked for breathing- but if he had just left well enough alone like he always did in the past, the fire would have eventually simmered and died out. He threw gasoline on the fire and now it's going to be a while before it burns out, and that's on him.

That being said: I don't see the need to waste time and energy on being hateful towards him and especially anyone who supports him, but if that's what floats your boat and gets you through your teenage angsty years, then whatever. I personally spent my teenage angst listening to MCR and writing terrible fanfiction, but maybe I was doing it wrong. 🤣

Now, onto a little storytime: I quit twitter because my 40 year old aunt got "canceled" by Harry Potter stans for a tweet she made 10 years ago about how she thought Ron Weasley was lame and Hermione could do better.

I'm not kidding. A bunch of 15 year olds found a 40 year old woman with 28 followers' random tweet from 2010 and attacked her over it. She got the full treatment, too- fancams, kys "jokes" (never EVER funny and never EVER justified), people telling her she was disgusting and problematic- over a 10 year old tweet about some fictional character.

She texted me and was like, "What the fuck is this?" And I had to sit there and explain stan culture to her. And you know what I realized while explaining all of this? This shit is fucking stupid. Like, in what universe is that kind of behavior acceptable and praised?

Look, we don't all have to like the same things/people. But we don't need to attack each other over it. I don't like Nickleback, at all, but you don't see me spending my days looking up Nickleback stan accounts and attacking them and then attacking the guys from Nickleback for existing. I just...simply don't engage with Nickleback? I mean, is that too simple a concept? I don't know. Maybe.

Conversely, I do like Led Zeppelin. But I don't go looking for anti-Zeppelin posts on twitter and try to destroy those peoples' lives because their opinions defer from mine. I just do my thing, like what I want to like, and let others do what they want. Again, maybe this is too simple of a concept, but that's why I never fit into the weird world of stanning.

Idk what's with ppl needing to be revisionist like, I'm Jewish and as a kid was able to acknowledge the issue and then just ignore the whole goblins thing to enjoy the story, the same way I put aside my issues with tolkein's dwarves to enjoy lotr. I noticed and criticized the house elves thing. But that doesn't mean that there was never any value to the Harry Potter series, the flaws in the books - whether elements of bigotry or just plot or worldbuilding stuff - dont erase that the series us actually good.

And I am highly skeptical of everyone jumping on the hate bandwagon focusing on the Harry Potter series over criticizing jk herself, and moreover specifically the *way* they're focusing on the series is, well. Basically saying it's cringy, was always bad, and if you go hey actually I like the books still and that's kinda a shitty attitude, they do that whole 'oh look at the angwy cringey stan getting angwy!!!' Bs that basically makes it seem like if you disagree with them it's not because you have an equally valid and differing pov, but that you're an immature cringey obsessed fan.

Like what's with the resurgence of finding it cringey for people to like stuff a whole lot? Ah I forgot we must all be respectable normal fans and not those icky fangirls. Yeah.

Like...the series isnt bad because its cringey or was all about marketing or whatever bullshit you're pulling out of your ass? Jk wanted to tell a story, and lots of people did and do still enjoy that story, and it's all highly personal whether one can enjoy the story still being aware of who she is and her views on a lot of things, or if one makes the decision to not read or enjoy it anymore.

Personally I feel uncomfortable thinking about rereading the books, but I still enjoy the story, despite the flaws. The same way I enjoy marvel stuff, and dragonriders of pern, and lotr, and pretty much a majority of the things I read, none of it is perfect, and none of the writers are perfect, either. I avoid stuff by osc but I never liked his stuff anyway? I think? And im not going to buy anything else harry potter related bc I dont want to give jk more money, and I'm mostly gonna ignore her bullshittery.

Im also not gonna tell anyone else what to do. And im not going to fucking bully other people for being into shit that I dont like or for being 'cringey' or being 'obsessed fans' or for not dropping something like a hot potato and joining in pretending theres no value in shit once it's been declared 'tainted', because yeah it all is, and the authors are shitty, and I still enjoy their works. It's easier when the author is already dead obvs.

But yeah, look, I was bullied in middle school for liking pokemon and dragons and cats, for being the weird obsessed kid, for drawing, for drinking apple juice when it wasnt cool. So. Im not interested in that kinda bullshit even if jk is a transphobe/terf/p.o.s., even if theres shit in the books that isnt great or is bigoted, bc half the time these people arent talking about that stuff! They just talk about the flaws that are also found in a lot of other stories! They're using this discussion and issue as an excuse to bully fans and that's not...what we should do..
