Everybody is blocking celebrities and I'm just happy Harry doesn't say anything and hoping he won't sell "treat israel with kindness" tshirts next. Sometimes I feel bad how low my expectations are, and wonder if it makes me really superficial to like him for the music, pretty face and the puzzle which is 'larry' 😕

Oh anon - 'treat Israel with kindness' is one of the most terrifying things I've read here - and that's because it's so close to being true. I agree with you entirely - and believe the only reasonable position for a Harry fan at this moment is to hope he never mentions Palestine or Israel.

It's really legitimate to prioritise the politics of music. I did for most of my 20s and 30s. But it's completely fucking bizarre for a fan to expect or demand artists they like share their politics. If that's what a fan wants - it's up to the fan to change not the artist. It's always an option priortise your attention towards music that has politics that you agree with.

I also don't think music, aesthetics, or the nature of celebrity and storytelling are more shallow than politics.

Which is all to say - we're very similar - keep at it.

I had seen this video about Harry in 2019 wearing Swim Deep's merch of their Emerald Classics album before. Let's talk about it!

What is definitely real is that he did wear that shirt (supposedly in 2019) and he's been acquainted (even friends?) with their bass player Cav for many years.

Swim Deep were going to be "the opening act for [Harry's] postponed London tour dates."

We're talking about tour dates in April 2020, announced in February 2020.

Harry's pic with the shirt came out on Jan 29th, 2020, the band shared their Happy As Larrie song on that same day.

What is interesting is that they chose to link to that song, instead of the whole album. My immediate question was: well, maybe it was their latest single? No, it was not! They released Happy As Larrie as a single only months later, on May 6th, 2020. Inchresting.

In the later tweet they said they don't know what "dark larrie" means. True or not, we can only speculate (¬‿¬)

The next day, Swim Deep referenced Harry wearing their merch as "the king wore" it and shared a link to the restocked shirt.

It's to be expected that a band would use a publicity/rep push like that to link to their own music or merch, especially if the artist who reps is bigger, and extra-especially if said artist has been friendly with them since years. Also they must've already known they were soon going to be announced as opening acts for a few of Harry's shows in April of the same year.

Just as general info: "happy as Larry / happy as a Larry" is a usual british english saying for 'extremely happy'. And there are other songs with that title, i.e. this one released in 2022.

Now, their song is called Happy as Larrie, of course.

The things with the other song 0121 Desire and the parallels to his own lyrics and the tracks being 2 + 8 are definitely cool and fun coincidences, but I personally don't think it's more than that. Emerald Classics came out on Oct 4th, 2019 and Adore You came out on Dec 6th, 2019 (the album came out even later, on Dec 13th, 2019). Unless Harry and them are on a deep friendship level, where Harry would share unreleased lyrics with them, they could have no knowledge of Harry's Fine Line lyrics while they wrote their own album. (Please take that with a grain of salt, though, because I don't know how deep Harry's friendship with Swim Deep (or just Cav) goes.)

In conclusion, I am going out on a limb here to say that if Harry had already listened to the album back then, I could imagine that he could have liked to see that one of the songs on it was called that, plus the lyrics about blue and green colours in 0121 Desire. He did wear the shirt in the same year the Swim Deep album came out (2019) and knowing how far in advance tour booking can work for big artists like him, it's very likely he already knew they were going to open a few of his shows in April 2020. So I personally think at least half, if not more-so -when he actually wore the shirt in 2019- it was him repping and supporting a band he's friendly with since years; who had just released a new album and who were going to open for him soon. It's absolutely possible that at the same time he also wore it, because of aforementioned coincidences and knowing we would listen to that album and definitely latch on to a song title like that :D (I think this is unlikely, but there's also a possibility where Harry just got gifted the shirt, is friendly with the band and wore it to support them, without even having listened to the album, yet. I'd need to know on what day exactly he wore the shirt to gauge whether he could've had listened to the album already) The reason for the timing of the publication of the photo could be linked to the band only weeks later being announced as his opening act.

YN YLN in 2015

YN YLN, Born 13th April 1994, is a British singer and songwriter. She is known for being part of the British pop group One Direction. In 2010, YLN auditioned as a solo artist for the British television series The X Factor. She was eliminated as a solo artist before going to judges house, however joined the then boyband One Direction.

YN attended Shrewsbury Secondary school, taking part in the schools drama department and choir. In addition to singing, YLN has also appeared in television and film, including the Nickelodeon series iCarly and the autobiographical concert film One Direction: This Is Us.

Early life

The band's third studio album, Midnight Memories, was released on 25 November 2013. The band release their fourth studio album Four in 2014. Their final album, Made in the AM was released on 13th November 2015.

YN has announced she will be releasing her first solo album very soon.

Personal life

YLN was in a relationship while on the X Factor, but they soon split up. YLN then started dating Alex. Unfortunately her whirlwind relationship came to a halt after Alex passed away in 2012.

YLN had an on and off relationship with actor Liam Hemsworth from 2013 until 2014. She had been single since, however many speculate that YLN and bandmate Harry Styles have had a secret relationship during their time in One Direction, but nothing had been confirmed.

YN has a dog named Cookie who lives with YLN’s dad or best friend Emma when YN was on tour.

Do you have an analysis to She Got Away?

Thank you for this question. I think if she got away as a Haylor song that had some details changed to make it a generic 1D song.

It is likely from February 2014 - fans first posted it was registered in November 2014 (after it didn’t appear on Four), although the band recorded it. While making WTNY and I Know Places with Taylor in Conway Studios he also saw Harry there (Four was in production)

Ryan has specified at least 4 other writing meetings with them:

29 January 2012 - W hotel in Westwood LA - to Zach Sang, that sounded early. 1D stayed at the W in 2012. No mention of a song just annoyed about the similar band names.

19 April 2013 - Manchester - to Capital FM - Right Now (OneRepublic was in London, One Direction in Manchester and Midnight Memories was in production. ...also after that date is when he went back to the US to get the Peace ring and Taylor wrote I Wish You Would). He says he wrote 'something else with one of them' presumably Harry as Right Now refers to CBBH and Harry loved it.

February 2014 - Conway Studios LA - to New York Post 2019 - when Taylor and Harry were there. The rest of the band was in the UK. I think this is when She Got Away was likely written. Harry wrote it with Ryan Tedder and Noel Zancanella, both who worked on Welcome to NY. Ryan also said he saw Harry and Taylor at the studio then (I know places & welcome to NY from the same sessions, we also know Harry was there when JABOYH was written while hanging around Conway in January 2014. Style, Shake it off were also recorded then. It’s widely reported this song was for Four, fan first posted about it being registered in November 2014 after Four released without it.

She Got Away Lyrics

Jennie in She got Away seems like a composite rather than an actual person. She is enigmatic, contradictory and mysterious. She is very much of the Diana/Georgia Rose archetype who is a vessel that 1D's fans could see themselves in or aspire to be. Harry's love of older music is clear, it's very Bob Dylan-inspired storytelling through characters, wandering and the places named.

Verse One: Liam & Harry] I met this girl the other night On the streets of New Orleans She said I'm trying to find myself On the run from Tennessee She had a diamond in one ear And patches on her jeans Oh yeah, oh yeah, the girl she got to me

The first verse reminds me of Taylor in the 'On the run from Tennessee' especially if the song is written in the same session as Welcome to New York, she was on the run from country music, the success of Red and her home of Tennessee.

The 'Diamond in one ear and patches on her jeans 'is a perfect description for this transitional era of Taylor - on the success of her last Country-pop album singing about moving to New York for a complete pop album. This line is very much Taylor at that time. It is a brilliant line as it works for the 1D listener who is an evolving young woman.

Jennie has a way with words Yeah, she always speaks in quotes She said that she ain't ever Met a man like me before She told me she just won a trip to Mexico Oh yeah, oh yeah On the radio Oh yeah, oh yeah Someday she will go

She has a way with words is a girl who writes, speaks in quotes is someone who writes heavily in references and metaphor... sounds like someone we know. 'She said she ain't never met a man like me before / she won a trip to Mexico' this sounds like the intended listener is fan fiction writers, coming up with the scenario where they meet Harry.

The 'never met anyone like me' line to me has me wondering how many of Taylor's Exes would come back to the studio to hear her next album be recorded and spend days collaborating on writing love songs about her while she does.. I think that's still a list of 1.

[Chorus: All] When I close my eyes I swear that I can see her Then they open wide And she’s a world away And I swear she’s mine So does every man who meets her Oh yeah, oh yeah She’s the girl that got away Oh yeah, oh yeah But she’s coming back someday

The chorus has Harry and the muse separated by the world, he is dreaming of her, it fits nicely with the fanfiction listener. There's a nice call out to 'half the world away'.

The 'so does every man who meets her' reminds me of Fool's Gold's 'you turn it on for everyone you meet' but here it is loving. And a nice 'she's coming back someday' adorable for writing this the same week as Style's 'Everytime we crash down we come back again'

The tattoo is cute, a clear 'not Taylor or anyone he'd dated.' unless the tattoo is on him and she doesn't know who it was for. 'when she was with me'

YN Olivia Tomlinson, born on the 13th of April, 1994, is an English hair stylist and fashion influencer. She is also the founder of the fashion company, Styles Fashion.

YN was born and raised in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Her older brother is singer Louis Tomlinson. She was raised with Louis and four younger sisters: Charlotte, Félicité, and twins Phoebe and Daisy. In 2017, YN released her first book, Styles: Fashion By Me. The book includes over 50 different fashion outfits and styles. A year later in 2018, YN launched Styles Fashion, her own company and clothing line, including clothing items that she designed herself. In June 2019, alongside her sister Lottie, she released a collaboration collection with fashion brand In the Style.

YN began dating her brother's bandmate, Harry Styles, in 2011. The couples relationship was exposed after a photo was taken of them kissing, at Harry's childhood's friend party. Despite their relationship, it is still clear that Harry and Louis's friendship has remained strong.

Speculations began that the pair may have split in 2018 when YN did not attend Harry's Manchester or London dates during his Live On Tour show. The pair were not seen together until December 2018, when YN posted a photo on her Instagram of the pair at her family's home in Doncaster.

In 2019, Harry released his studio album Fine Line, where fans were quick to conclude that the couple did in fact split the previous year. The album is a mixture of happy and sad times that the couple experienced and Harry said in his interview with Zane Lowe "The times when I felt good and I felt happy, we're the happiest I've ever felt in my life, and the times I felt sad was the lowest I ever felt in my life". In the same interview, Harry also confirmed that the voice played at the end of the track Cherry is YN, which was from 2014 when she was trying to learn how to speak French.

YN has featured in some of Harry's music video's, including Lights Up, Watermelon Sugar, Adore You, Treat People with Kindness, As It Was, Late Night Talking and Daylight.

After the loss of her mother and sister, YN has been open about her anxiety and has since been an advocate for mental health and currently is an ambassador, alongside her sister Lottie, for the bereavement charity, Sue Ryder.

Following the announcement of her sister, Lottie's, pregnancy in 2022, YN launched a maternity clothing line, quoting in her interview "My sister begged me to start working on maternity clothes as soon as she found out she was pregnant...how could I say no?".

YN has joined Harry on his Love On Tour tour, from 2021-2023. Harry announced during one of his Wembley shows that he had proposed to YN at the venue that very same day. Despite being on a world tour, YN still used her platforms to work in partnership with brands, but most importantly, provide the fans with the updates they wanted.

i think ikywt was one of the major songs on her mind when she wrote this portion of the reputation prologue: "When this album comes out, gossip blogs will scour the lyrics for the men they can attribute to each song, as if the inspiration for music is as simple and basic as a paternity test." so let's take the paternity test metaphor and run

while it's fairly accepted to say ikywt has multiple fathers, it is considered somewhat of a hot take to say it's written about harry. BUT it's a hot take that i think the evidence supports so it's timeline time baby (sources for everything in my writing of red timeline)

Late 2011/Early 2012: taylor writes a sad piano ballad named trouble. it's unknown just how much of the song was intact. she hadn't met harry yet, jake was her most recent Big ex, but it's probably mostly about The Pattern.

April 2012: she meets harry in late march 2012, she writes come back be here and treacherous days after getting back from a weekend getaway with him in mid april, he goes away on tour and is photographed kissing another girl in late april, she posts that she's listening to the song "screaming infidelities" on instagram, so goes haylor round one

June 2012: she brings trouble to Max Martin and Shellback and says she wants it to feel frantic with a prominent baseline, and they make it into a dupstep song. again, unknown how many lyrics changed from the first draft to the finished version, but she did say she reworked some lines to better fit the meter

late 2012-2013: both taylor and harry imply ikywt is about him multiple times

One Direction: This is Us—Our Unhealthy Obsession with Celebrities

Eleven years ago, One Direction was at the height of their careers. The British boy band had just wrapped their third world tour and was preparing for their fourth, with 69 shows on the agenda. Now comfortable with each other, they released their third studio album, Midnight Memories. No longer teenagers, the members of One Direction wanted to show their maturity, promising an "edgier" and "rockier" sound, according to Louis Tomlinson. They swapped out the boy-next-door sonnets for more sexually charged lyrics, replaced acoustic guitars with electric ones, and delivered more upbeat hits than their previous albums. Just three months earlier, on August 30, 2013, the film One Direction: This Is Us premiered worldwide, giving fans an inside look at their lives on tour and the effects of fame.

This Is Us was filmed over four months, starting in January 2013 in Tokyo and finishing in London in April. During filming, the band members were between the ages of 20 and 22. While the film showcased the fun and excitement of their careers, it also gave the boys a chance to explain the hardships of their success and how it affected them. Grateful for their careers, members still expressed the challenges of adjusting to sudden global fame, like losing the ability to go out without protection and being away from their families. Whether intentional or not, the film also revealed just how overworked they were, detailing their demanding schedules filled with concerts, interviews, and recording sessions. A particularly telling moment shows a producer waking Zayn up on their tour bus to record, with a tired and young Zayn asking, "How long was I out?" to which the producer responds, "10 minutes."

While the life of any successful musician has its faults, it's important to ask: how much is too much? Watching the film again as a 23-year-old, I was struck by how young they were at the time. At 12, I thought being 22 was old, but seeing them now through a different lens was quite upsetting. Paul Higgins, One Direction’s bodyguard, described the boys situation well, stating “If you can imagine yourself being taken away at the age of 16 or 17 and then thrown into the spotlight... people are constantly around them, and to hold their form and cool, and to enjoy it and perform, it’s a big ask." Harry Styles chimed in adding, "There are definitely times where you’re not enjoying it the whole time. But then you have to step back for a second and try to weigh the pros and cons." While this reflection seems healthy, it also highlights the guilt that comes with success. It was hard watching the young men tiptoe around how they really felt, as everytime they expressed a hardship, they’d follow it up with how “lucky” they were to be in their position. However, I don’t find this lucky by any means—I find it quite the opposite. It is disheartening how a child's innocence is taken advantage of by others who see them as a dollar sign.

In light of One Direction member Liam Payne’s untimely death, fans are searching for the root cause of his addiction, which led to his passing. While no one can place the responsibility for someone’s life on external factors alone, Payne’s death prompts reflection on how unhealthy the constant public scrutiny of celebrities can be, and how fans can play a part in this toxicity as well. Starting on The X Factor, the boys were no strangers to the public eye, but they never expected to reach such stardom so quickly. Simon Cowell, a judge on the show and the band’s creator, noted how “strange” it was that people became obsessed with the five boys after just one performance. This obsession only grew, especially on social media platforms like Twitter and Tumblr, where fans dedicated entire blogs to discussing the band’s music, whereabouts, and their feelings about the members. As One Direction released songs about love and vulnerability, fans felt a personal connection to them, leading to a parasocial phenomenon among “Directioners.”

For instance, it became popular to write fanfiction about the members, creating imaginary romantic scenarios—sometimes between a fan and a band member, or even between the members themselves. While most fans acted out of love, these behaviors were harmful, often oversexualizing the young men and invading their privacy. As a result, One Direction was constantly surveilled and couldn't go out without security. Payne spoke openly about how this lack of freedom affected him, saying in an interview, “In the band… the best way to secure us, because of how big we’d got, was to lock us in our rooms. What’s in the room? A mini-bar. So at a certain point I thought, I’m just going to have a party-for-one, and that carried on for many years of my life.” He also spoke about the loneliness and lack of control he felt during and after this time, commenting, “There are times where that level of loneliness and people getting to you every day... you’re like, when will this end?”

X Factor winner Rebbeca Ferguson when asked about Payne's death said “[he] was a victim of an industry’s “exploitation and profiteering of young stars.” Claiming that it was a factor in his death. Although this narrative isn’t new—many child stars have struggled with substance abuse following early stardom—it raises an important question: how can we, as fans, make a conscious effort to respect celebrities' boundaries and view them as individuals rather than idols? Luckily, in just the last year the stigma of complying with “superfan” behavior has been challenged by artists who have spoken out against it like Chappell Roan, Tyler the Creator, Billie Eilish, and Hayley Willimas. Hopefully, as more voices join this conversation, we can see a shift toward a healthier, more respectful fan-celebrity relationships.

The soft, directness of his gaze, the hesitant smile he gives to Lou, the way he wrings his ridiculously large hands in his lap.

He's a little bit the eager sixteen year old puppy dog again, his innocence and sweetness resurrected miraculously, and Louis freezes in place. He was prepared to face the asshole Harry. He was prepared to meet a whole new Harry.

Louis is not prepared to meet one of the old incarnations of Harry, and it absolutely tears him up.

How Say Don't Go and Just A Little Bit Of Your Heart fit in the same lyrical timeline but with each other’s point of view. We know SDG was written in late 2013/early 2014 and JALBOY was already made by April 2014. But then Harry wrote I Love You which was released in October 2014. Did he tell Taylor he loves her? At least in songs, we don't know if he did in person. They were hooking up that year tho.

I've figured out the You’re Almost Home Timeline so for the gang who care about the passage of time it's under the cut.

Firstly, I have chosen to totally ignore the gravestone dates because of Reasons, including "okay look I started writing this when it wasn't on streaming and this is mostly so it makes sense to me" and "time is an illusion I just need to know this so I can say what year it'll be on NYE". Felix has a January birthday in my little canon and nobody can stop me.

So let's go!

2007

Felix is in Expensive Rehab Facility until Christmas. Sir James and Lady Elspeth have pulled a lot of strings to make sure that Felix's accident won't impact him in any way, shape or form. This mostly means getting him an expensive tutor and essentially permission to submit all of his work online. No need for tutorials because he's had a hard time and is a very special boy. Felix takes this chance to essentially do as much work while he's stuck in the facility as he can because there's fuck all else to do, and he's being made to quit smoking so he's mad about that. Farleigh's back as if he never left, and Venetia is being an absolute rock.

Oliver returns to Oxford, makes contact with the Student Counselling Services, and throws himself into studying so hard it hurts. He needs to distract himself. They allow him to switch tutors and move to a different dorm where he turns into a studying hermit. If he sees any of the Alpha Hotties, he hides. He becomes invisible again, even more than before. His new tutor helps him switch to an accelerated degree program.

2008

Felix turns 21 and does the Spring and Summer terms. His parents decide to go on a tour of Europe to celebrate Felix getting back on the horse. They also know he's going to graduate, because the Special Little Boy measures are in place for him so all he has to really do is log on to Moodle and submit one of his pre-written essays every so often. He's burned a few bridges because he's being very twattish. Felix decides to sack off Christmas term and heads to Bali in late July/early August. Sir James has made sure he has internet access, so what's the point of even being in Oxford? He meets Lucia, who is 18 and on her Gap Year. Because it's the end of the summer, there aren't many options, so Felix sticks with her. Harry is part of the group from maybe like... week three? Luckily, Lucia is on a cleanse, so although they're partying, she isn't drinking or indulging in anything else. In November, Lu gets food poisoning- or so they think, until the doctor Felix hauls her to gives them the news. Felix contacts his parents in a hurry, and they are flown back to the UK and subjected to a major parental conference. Felix proposes to Lu at a Catton Christmas party.

Oliver graduates early. He doesn't go home for the holidays, saying he needs to keep studying. He decides on teaching because it won't be sustainable to be a student forever. His tutor is a major help; he's from Newcastle, although you wouldn't know it because his accent has long since faded and has taken Oliver under his wing. He remains Oliver's main advisor throughout his studies and is probably the reason he gets the job- he's keeping an eye on him so he knows there'll be a Northern Lad Professor once he eventually retires. They're not exactly friends, but there's a lot of mutual respect there.

2009

Felix turns 22 and marries Lu shortly after. He briefly returns to Oxford, but mostly to make sure he graduates. Harry is born in on the 10th of April and he gets his degree in absentia. Lu gets pregnant with Ru maybe a little too soon afterwards, and Rufus is born prematurely on the 27th of November. Oopsie.

2010

Oliver gets his Masters degree in english literature.

2011

Sir James dies of a heart attack in May.

2013

Ellie is born on the 1st of August. Felix gets a vasectomy.

2014

Oliver gets his PhD. His thesis was titled "Narrative Accessibility and Diversity within Academia".

2015

Lady Elspeth passes away in her sleep.

Then a bit of a time jump until

2020

Oliver is finally an associate professor after being in postdoc for 6 years.

Farleigh finally hits on a startup that works- a designer resale app that offers item verification for an add-on fee. It's wildly successful, mostly because he's been hobnobbing in America hardcore and is getting a ton of celebrity endorsements.

2025

Venetia is diagnosed with lung cancer.

2026

Venetia passes away. Felix is bereft.

Harry gets her A level results and Oxford place, despite being 17- Lucia, having not got a degree herself, is adamant that her children be highly educated as fast as possible... and Harry will turn 18 in her first year anyway. Harry doesn't mind this, as she has a fake ID and cannot wait to be away from boring boarding schools.

Oliver Quick receives an email notifying him that, amongst others, he will be tutoring Harriet Catton.

And then Felix Catton walks into his office, and they proceed to go bonkers.
