This girly was restless, so I grabbed her harness & did a quick session. Trying for the millionth time to get back to doing one churu length session every day. She was excited, stayed close to me, wagged her tail at every praise, and was sticking her head fully through the neck loop. 🥰

And afterwards I got bullied into training Addy Spring, Phoebe, and Ripley, so I was doing scratch board with the dogs. Emma followed me to the floor and joined Spring on her own, still eager to engage! She doesn't paw at the board yet, but she got close enough for her nails to just scrape on it twice.

Working on harness training her, took us a few tries to find a harness that fits well but I think this one's a winner!

Zoe had a harness on and was out in my Nan's garden for the first time today. Was very nervous and hiding lots. In time with short little bursts, she'll gain confidence.

She also beat up a giant house spider today, my Grandad told me. I'm quite happy as I have terrible arachnophobia.

Calling all catblr folks who harness and walk their cats: any advice to smooth out the bumps of early training? I know patience and persistence are both key, along with positive reinforcement. And, in my case, keeping the dog upstairs where my in-laws live when training sessions take place.

For reference, Jiji is 3 1/2 and I don’t know much more about his history than the shelter I fostered and ultimately adopted him from does. He wore the harness for five minutes today, pausing from his escape struggles only long enough to eat his lunch, and then promptly got it off.

I've decided to retrain my two cats to wear harnesses because they love going outside and Guen especially just starts chirping and zig-zagging wildly in glee which is, obviously, a bit unpredictable and stressful for me if she's untethered.

But while Zak is taking to it just fine as she was started as a kitten, Guen is strongly ~autistic~ and hates anything being on her body and acts like she's been suckerpunched with a shit-covered hand every time I put the harness on her.

We'll get there, especially when I go grab a couple of vest harnesses as I think they'll be a bit more comfortable and safe for them. I just want to see the pure ecstatic joy and excitement in her eyes again.

Zoe calmly explored a closed off (sheltered by high wood fencing) part of Nan's garden wearing her harness. Was not nervous and very curious.

I'm super proud of her.

Baby steps, and one day, she can go in the rest of the garden. It will be great if she accidentally bolts through a door. She'll know what the home looks like outside.
