THE BIG BAD WOLF ▶ BRANDON WOLFE ( TOWN SHERIFF ● 36 ● CHRIS EVANS ● TAKEN )
Brandon didn’t have a good childhood. Growing up in a trailer park with a mean old drunk with a bad temper for a father and as the youngest of five boys, he was often teased by his brothers for being “too soft”. However he was his mother’s favorite, something that his father and brothers greatly resented.
He was very young when his father shot his mother to death, taking his sons with him and leaving Brandon behind with his mother’s corpse. It took local authorities 2 days to find him in a state of shock. Fueled by his loss, Brandon personally swore vengeance but after searching for his father for years he was unable to find him. He shoved aside his futile attempts to avenge his mother and buried his hatred and grief.
Even though he is known for his violent nature, it did not stop Brandon from being elected Sheriff. Perhaps in the beginning he wanted to make a difference but he quickly realized that the title came with all the power and authority that had been denied to him all his life. He has been the cigarette-smoking, bad mouthed sheriff of the small town of Grimmbrook for five years and during that time he has earned more enemies than friends.
He is extremely cunning, resourceful and vicious if he believes the situation calls for it. Shoot first, ask questions if he feels like it. Yet, even with all his flaws he is an excellent detective with an impressive track record in solving cases that include murder and disappearances. His latest unsolved case being the murder of Madison Redding.
CONNECTIONS ▶
Ella Gertrude: Brandon and Ella met 4 years ago when he saved her from a mugger. Sparks flew and they got married but their marital bliss didn’t last long. After a year of pointless bickering they both agreed that divorce was the best way to go. Now they try to avoid one another as much as possible.
Isabel Dumas: Brandon found her one day walking aimlessly in the middle of the night. She was drunk and in emotional distress after having a huge fight with her boyfriend. He took her home and has been checking up on her ever since. Something about her relationship with Casper Du Pont doesn’t feel right.
Casper Du Pont: Brandon doesn’t like him. He thinks he’s a pompous ass who believes he can get away with everything just because he owns half the town. Worst part is, the bastard isn’t wrong. They are constantly at each other’s throats.
Luke Mason: Brandon and Luke have a very strange relationship. They have known each other for a long time which is why Brandon has turned a blind eye to a lot of things Luke has done. Currently Luke is crashing in Brandon’s couch after having a falling out with his siblings.
Harlyn Rousseau: Brandon was onto the Rousseau sibling’s operations when Harlyn decided to get in front of a bad situation. He offered Brandon a small percentage of their monthly back-of-house revenue to keep quiet. And, as an added bonus, if Brandon ever needed funds laundered or any documents forged, The Candy House would provide them as a courtesy. It was too good a deal for Brandon to pass up so they’ve had a partnership going for a while now.

THE MARCH HARE ▶ HARRISON MARLOWE
( CANDY HOUSE GALLERY DOCENT ● 26 ● MAXENCE DANET-FAUVEL ● OPEN )
The Marlowe family was average-middle class with Greg Marlowe being an accountant and Anna Marlowe a school teacher. They were decent people who loved their son and encouraged his passion for history and art. They seemed to have the perfect middle-American lifestyle, white picket fence. But when Harrison turned thirteen, things started changing.
Some weeks it would be near impossible to get him to do anything. But then, a few weeks later it’d be impossible to get him to go to stop doing things. He’d have an abundance of energy and would start several art projects at once, checking out at least five history books from the library, blowing through them like they were children’s lit. It took about a year for him to be diagnosed with bipolar disorder, mostly because his parents didn’t really know what to do before a family friend suggested he go to the doctors. They were supportive of him and started taking him to a respected Psychiatrist, Dr. Faulkner, also getting him the medication he needed.
It seemed like that was that – Harrison was back to himself. He finished school and enrolled at Grimmbrook University. Then he met Madison Redding his senior year. At first he ignored her, having heard rumors and thought she was trying to get dirt on him. But she started to get under his skin and right before graduation, they began dating. She encouraged him to stop taking his meds, told him he was more fun without them, more creative and maybe she was right. The next two and a half years consisted of an on-again, off-again relationship, with Madison somehow always dragging him back despite Harrison knowing he was his worst self with her.
It took several friends and his parents’ intervention before he went back on his meds consistently enough to know that he didn’t want to be out of control, not when it felt like that. A year ago, after their official break-up, Harrison got a new job after blowing several in town and some promising ones outside of Grimmbrook. But he was around art again, and he was working on his portfolio. He ignored Madison that year. She wasn’t good for him, but that doesn’t mean he wanted her dead, or that he doesn’t regret ignoring her phone calls in the weeks leading up to it, or that he isn’t freaked out by the entire situation.
CONNECTIONS ▶
MADELAINE SLOAN: They met sophomore year of high school when they got stuck as partners in their chemistry lab on the first day. Then they got assigned as partners for a semester long history project. Then, they somehow got ended up in the same mandatory drama elective and were paired together as scene buddies for the quarter. It was like fate was forcing them to be friends and Harrison is forever thankful for it. Affectionately calling him Nerd, Madelaine warmed up to him fast, especially when they both realized they were sunk in chemistry, possibly able to pass history because of Harrison and definitely able to pass drama because of Madelaine. She’s his best friend and though they “broke-up” for a while when he was dating Madison, she was the one who really slapped sense into him when she saw how bad things had gotten. It took a while but they’ve come back from that break.
HARLYN ROUSSEAU: Harlyn gave him a job despite the fact that his resume was full of choppy timelines and inconsistencies. It was clear that Harrison knew what he was talking about when it came to art and art history, his degree coming in hand even if his work experience post-grad was abysmal up until that point. He sees people coming and going at the Candy House that don’t exactly seem like they’re interested in art but hasn’t said anything, mainly because he’s grateful for the job and doesn’t want to mess things up anymore.
DRAKE LI: The idiot nearly got him fired from The Candy House. He seemed to think toting a giant slushie through the gallery was a great idea and when he tripped on the tour he was taking, Harrison experienced as close to a heart attack as one can get without actually suffering one. He dove for the slushie, somehow managing to get it on himself and keep it off a painting that was going up for auction that weekend. Needless to say, whenever he sees Drake near the gallery, he’s always giving him a look that says think again.
MEAGAN LASKARIS: She’s the hot lady who asked him about his tattoo at a bar and yeah, she looks like he’d be too young for her to be interested, and also kinda way out of his league but he never got her name and wishes he had. She asked about what he did and they had a really long conversation about Picasso’s early work versus what he’s known for and the entire time he felt like she was genuinely interested in what he had to say. Of course, he doesn’t know that the FBI agent is more interested in his connection with Madison Redding than she is with him. For now, she’s just the lady he hopes turns up for a tour sometime.
THEODORE BECK: Theodore and Harrison met at a St. Patrick’s Day party where the two ended up passed out drunk at a mutual friend’s house, along with several other party-goers. They were the first to wake up the next day and somehow managed to clean up, neither the type to leave a mess, and ended up bonding over the shared experience of suffering. Sometimes Theodore stops by the gallery, surprisingly interested in art and learning about the specific value of pieces. It’s nice to have more friends since he lost quite a few during his time with Madison. As long as Theodore isn’t hanging out with Chad when Harrison’s around, they’re cool. He still doesn’t feel great around Madison’s brother, but likes Theodore enough to not bring it up. He doesn’t want to cause any trouble.

CAPTAIN PHOEBUS ▶ LIAM PHOENIX (  THE CANDY HOUSE HEAD OF SECURITY ● 38  ● CHARLIE HUNNAM ● TAKEN )
Liam’s life has been a turbulent one. Like a car crash too gruesome to look at, but you’re far too interested to actually look away. He’s the son of a highly respectable investment banker and his socialite wife. Like most children growing up with wealthy parents, Liam’s life was one filled with material possessions and little love, with a father constantly jetting off for work and a mother who was more interested in plastic surgery and charity events than her own children. No one can pin point the certain moment in time when he changed, maybe it was when he found his sister passed out on the bathroom floor after overdosing on pain killers, but he changed.
For the most part of his life he had been a quiet boy, keeping to himself of course acting like a spoiled brat at times but he was polite and well mannered a little socially inept when it came to treating other people with respect. He was always told by his father that they they were better than everyone else. Maybe thats what screwed him up so badly, or maybe the Phoenix family just had a genetic tendency toward addictive personalities - father with work, mother with eternal beauty, sister with attention.   Like any normal angry teenager he started to act out, got into trouble, fell into the wrong crowd, did all of the things you’d expect a rebellious sixteen year old to do. When they finally expelled him from school, Liam felt relief for the first time in years. He went on the road, bought himself a shit old motorcycle and started traveling around the country.
Even though he had a luxurious home to go back to and wealth aplenty waiting there, Liam spent years living as a homeless man. Panhandling, doing odd jobs here and there, getting enough to buy food and maybe a room to stay in. At 26 he got involved with a 46 year old married woman and convinced her to leave her husband for him. When said husband found out what was happening he tracked them down to the motel they were staying at and stabbed Liam five times in the back, leaving him for dead. He woke up two months later in a hospital near Fresno and it it took him almost a year to fully recover.
Eventually life led him to Grimmbrook and he was in very bad shape then - he’d picked up his sisters old addiction - painkillers after the surgeries were his new boon.  The stronger the better.  Analgesics leading to opiates… Not always the legal kind. He got himself arrested shortly after for robbing a liquor store and spent a year in Grimmbrook prison. It was probably the best thing that could have happened to him.  The time inside got him clean - and introduced him to a new way to steer those addictive tendencies, in the brutal, visceral shape of violence.  He emerged a more controlled man than the mess of a human who’d entered. Finding a purpose for that addiction is what ultimately saved him.  Stepping into street fights, putting his fists to work for money.  He took his fair share of beatings during the first few years - but he also got better at dishing them out.  It was that honed skill which led him to the Cage - and the observation of one of his fights led to an offer of employment as head of security at the Candy House.  So now he has a legitimate face to present to the world.  A gainful, contributing member of society.  And the cage offers him the salve to his addictive wound.
CONNECTIONS ▶
HARLYN ROUSSEAU: Liam was hired by Harlyn after the other man saw him fighting at The Cage. He didn’t ask questions about his past and, instead, offered him a job as security for their family’s art gallery. It seemed like a weird offer to make but over his first few months, after he’d gained Harlyn’s trust, the other began to share more details about the other going-ons Liam had begun to guess at. Despite him being a decade younger, Liam can tell Harlyn’s not naive and he’s no fool. He's efficient and to the point and Liam prefers that in a boss. There’s no BS between them which makes it easier to do his job.
SAMUEL MASON: Criminals know criminals. Liam met Samuel when he first arrive in Grimmbrook. To say that it was hate at first sight would be an exaggeration since their arguments always ended up in fist fights. Perhaps it was a territorial thing, who knows? Eventually things cooled down and they became somewhat friendly with one another. Liam heard that Samuel got his ass arrested a few years back after attempting to rob a bank and did pay him a visit in jail out of camaraderie.
MARIGOLD NICOL: He dated Marigold for a few months before she met her so called love of her life and pretty much left him for him. Was he heartbroken? He’d argue that he doest’t have that much of a heart to begin with but his ego did take a hit. He could not help but feel a little bit satisfied when he heard that her husband had died but at the same time he felt really bad for her and the fact that she was having a baby. So ever since he has been trying to find ways to help her out.
SIMON CHURCH: He has used Simon’s services in the past whenever he needs a job well done. He especially likes that the guy does not ask a lot of questions and he cares only about the money. Because they have been in business for so long they have become friends. Probably not the greatest idea to befriend the man you pay to kill others for your boss.
JAVIER MORENO: As the owned of The Cage, Liam has a lot of respect for Javier. He is running a great business and one that he indulges in. Liam was one of the first ones to fight in the Cage and he has gain some popularity in that circle. He makes Javier a lot of money whenever they bet on him to win a match.

HANSEL ▶ HARLYN ROUSSEAU ( CO-OWNS THE CANDY HOUSE ● 28 ● SEAN TEALE ● OPEN )
Harlyn’s childhood was good, happy even, with a father, mother and sister who doted on him. He was never great at art itself, like his father or sister were, but he had a mind like an encyclopedia, absorbing all the facts Arlo Rousseau ever spewed about France or dates or artists and paintings. He learned Spanish from his mom and French from his sister and dad. He loved to hear everything about anything.
But when Catalina died, he was barely eleven and it was hard to get Harlyn to be as attentive. There was a mom-sized hole in his heart. Arlo saw that staying in Connecticut was doing nothing for their family so he moved their little unit to Grimmbrook, where Harlyn’s mom had grown up. When they started homeschooling, he sparked up again, enjoying the freedom that came with him and Gabrielle choosing courses that interested them while helping their father start and run a gallery.
Harlyn worked as a guide, charming gallery-goers and prospective buyers. Still, he always missed his mother and despite Gabrielle being the closest thing to one he had for several years, when Isla came into their life, she filled the hole more completely. She brought him toys and candy, and took him for ice cream and to the movies. He was just thirteen and wanted a mom. So when Gabrielle told him what was going on, his heart broke but he trusted his sister, and together they came up with a plan, young though they were. They managed to find an artist a few towns over not much older than Harlyn, but talented enough to pull off their plan. He oversaw every little detail as the artist recreated a perfect fake of a piece Isla had been eying. When it was stolen, they found someone to track it down before presenting the information to their father. Isla was gone from their lives the very next day, with a warrant out for her arrest.
The experience made the two realize that they could do something with this, despite their age. They started a side hustle, working in tandem for years as they helped at the gallery. When their father left for France, they were both old enough to take their business to the next level, which is exactly what they did.
CONNECTIONS ▶
GABRIELLE ROUSSEAU: His older sister and business partner. He knows she views them as equals despite their age difference but he still looks up to her and admires how she conducts business. He also doesn’t take it lightly that she’s always been there for him, and she’s never steered him wrong. They bounce ideas off each other and always run plans by the other – even if they know they’ll be in agreement. Transparency between them is important to keep The Candy House running smoothly. He’d do anything for Gabrielle and knows she feels the same about him.
LIAM PHOENIX: Harlyn first saw him at The Cage and knew that if there was anyone who’d do a good job at heading up The Candy House’s security, it would be him. He pitched him a lowball offer, thinking that if the guy was fighting in The Cage, he probably didn’t have a ton of prospects but in the years since, he’s gained Harlyn’s trust and rose up. They spend a lot of time together, going over plans and logistics, especially when there’s a rare piece coming through The Candy House. He trusts that Liam will get the job done.
REGINALD ROSE: Though they were different ages when they moved to Grimmbrook, both came from families that never quite fit in. They became friends at the library and despite Reginald not knowing what Harlyn really does now, they’ve kept that friendship going since. Sure, he feels a bit bad to keep a secret like this from Reggie but doesn’t want to get his friend involved in something he didn’t ask for.
ALANA LOPEZ: She’s come through to admire art and, well, Harlyn can’t help but admire her. Though he’s not really front-of-house, he usually finds a way to give her a tour or offer a tidbit about the work she’s looking at. When he heard the accent, he broached a conversation in Spanish and the two hit it off, but not as much as he’d have liked. He ignores Gabrielle’s eye roll whenever he talks to Alana, and figures that friendship isn’t a bad place to start. Especially not when he doesn’t really have a ton of time for deep connections with work, both front and back of house.
TYLER DECKER: Harlyn used to be friends with Tyler’s ex, Mike. He heard about the accident and thought it was grade-a shitty work for Mike to ditch town after killing a couple and leaving someone else to die. Sure, Harlyn isn’t exactly a saint, and money’s a big motivator for his work, but he’s not that bad. Out of curiosity, he used his network to get tabs on Mike and has considered using it as a bargaining chip to see if Tyler has any dirt to on his boss. Though not exactly against The Deadly Seven, Harlyn would be a fool not to see the gang as a possible future threat to The Candy House. At the end of the day, any other criminal activity in town has the potential to eventually undermine their operation.

GRETEL ▶ GABRIELLE ROUSSEAU ( CO-OWNS THE CANDY HOUSE ● 31 ● NATHALIE EMMANUEL ● OPEN )
Arlo Rousseau dreamed of being a painter growing up in the Latin Quarter of Paris. But circumstances rendered that dream unrealistic. Add to it being twenty-five and his girlfriend, Eva, leaving him and their two year old daughter – it was impossible. Gabrielle still remembers him instilling a love of art, telling her that while America didn’t have as great museums, it would still be a good home for them. She’d turned three when they moved from Paris to Connecticut and almost four when she came home to a newborn baby brother and a step-mother.
Harlyn was sweet and his mom, Catalina, who Gabrielle called mom too, was kind, speaking soft words of Spanish to them. Those were the happy years...until Catalina got sick. By fourteen, Gabrielle had lost two mothers. It was back to the three of them and Arlo decided they needed a change of pace so they moved to the town in Vermont where Catalina had immigrated to as a girl.
In Grimmbrook, Arlo homeschooled them and gave up the handyman jobs he’d taken since arriving in the states. He opened up a gallery in an old candy shop. It started small but old friends from Paris contributed art. Both kids worked around the gallery, especially when they started making sales. With sales came increased success and money and with that: women. Gabrielle was a good judge of character and when she was sixteen, Isla came into town and their life. She didn’t trust it. Despite the fact that her father was in love and her brother loved the gifts Isla brought him, she wasn’t so easily won over.
She knew something wasn’t right when pieces went missing in a string of break ins so Gabrielle followed Isla on her next “work” trip-weekend, to discover Isla had gone home to her husband, along with the stolen art that they planned to resell. Harlyn trusted his sister so together they set a trap. That incident made Gabrielle realize they could have a real business doing this, amongst other things. They started small and when their father had an opportunity to return to France as a curator, after chasing a dream for so long, they encouraged him to do so. When he left, they ramped up their business and have been thriving since.
CONNECTIONS ▶
HARLYN ROUSSEAU: Brother and business partner. She’s always looked after Harlyn, especially after his mom died, and the two became closer before Isla came between their family. Still, the fact they took her down together bonded them more than happy teenage years ever could and they were tied at the hip after. They poured over covert plans for their side business and when their father left, they built nothing short of a small empire for themselves. There’s no one she trusts more. Whereas she’s usually the planner and orchestrator of a lot of their bigger deals, he’s the one who makes it happen or finds the people who can.
BLAKE REEVES: Blake was the painter who created the perfect fake that revealed Isla’s true nature. Since then, they had on-again-off-again communication until Blake needed a place to stay. She knew the other young woman needed to support herself somehow so she got her father to hire her as an events organizer for the gallery and, on the side, gave her a few jobs here and there. Her work started to impress others interested in doing illegal dealings and soon Gabrielle had given her enough jobs to be thoroughly entrenched in the operation. Once The Candy House’s back-of-house market took off, she offered Blake a full time position creating perfect fakes of famous paintings. She’s their main art forger and Gabrielle never fails to be impressed by the work she renders.
CASPER DU PONT: He’s got his own criminal activity going on and while they’ve laundered money for him, Gabrielle doesn’t like it. Maybe it’s the fact he seems entitled or the fact he thinks his embezzlement scheme is so clever, but he rubs her the wrong way and she can’t help the giant eye roll whenever he opens his mouth to offer some sort of commentary or advice on literally anything.
PEARL PHILLIPS: Her personal assistant helping with front-of-house operations. Pearl doesn’t know anything about the back-of-house dealings at The Candy House but things were getting busy and Gabrielle needed the extra help to keep everything running smoothly. So far, Pearl has been nothing but efficient and organized, which is all Gabrielle wanted. She wasn’t bargaining to get a friend out of the hire but she and Pearl get on well, easily exchanging unfortunate stories of exes and too-embarrassing-to-forget moments. It’s easy to forget to make time for her personal life and Pearl’s been good at scheduling that in for Gabrielle.
DANIEL MICKEY:  However respectable The Candy House may appear to be to the outside eye, Gabrielle would be foolish to think no one’s gossiped or let slip anything about the other side of things. So she’s always cautious around Detective Mickey, polite but distant, especially when he’s visited the gallery. She hates it but puts up a good show of being interested in whatever questions he may have. It’s better to keep the authorities in the dark and thinking their family is of good moral standing, rather than to be rude and cast any doubt on it.
