Didn't The Ray has a sidekick for a while in the fifties? Spitfire or something like that? Whatever happened to him?
Yes that's a rather tragic tale that one and a story that highlights the dangers that come with superhuman abilities no matter who your parents are.

(A photograph from the Philadelphia Inquirer showing Spitfire's temporary rampage through the city.) Joshua Terrill was born to the first Ray, Langford "Happy" Terrill and his first wife Rachael in the late 1940s with genetic abilities inherited from his father. The ability to direct, absorb and control photons of visible light. His abilities were even stronger than his father's, able to take on a fully intangible form. He was unveiled to the world as the Ray's sidekick Spitfire for a few months around the passing of the Keane Act. The Keane Act making their actions rife with hostile encounters with police and the public revealed Joshua's burgeoning mental instability, a violent instinct in the boy that was only more damaging because of the destructive potential of his abilities. During an argument with his mother, the young Joshua lost control, turning his abilities on her to fatal results. Naturally horrified by his son's actions, the elder Ray restrained his son and placed him in cryogenic status until a time where the interaction between his mental illness and his powers could be better treated, especially with government hostility against publically active superhumans being at an all time high. This personal tragedy is what lead the Ray to abandon our reality and join the expedition of the Freedom Fighters that set off to liberate the Nazi dominated Earth-X. It wasn't until the second and current Ray uncovered the still slumbering Joshua that much of this information came to light, as the awakened Spitfire went on a nearly fatal rampage across Philadelphia. Eventually both Rays were able to bring the young man under control (leading to a rather heartbreaking scene of young Joshua breaking down sobbing and begging his father for help while wrapped around his ankles. It really is watching a snarling supervillain turn into a scared 10 year old in the blink of an eye) The boy has, very rightly, been kept away from the public eye since then under the care of the Ray and his second wife Nadine. He is enrolled in STAR Labs' superhuman psychology unit through their Philadelphia branch where one can assume he is undergoing intensive therapy not only for his native mental disquiet but also the trauma of the events he has been through. He has been at the center of the so called "Killer Kids" 'movement' when a national forum of 'concerned' parents and other authorities figures attacked programs like STAR Labs for offering these kinds of rehabilitation programs to "metahuman delinquents" rather than placing them in a juvenile detention facility or, as many in the movement prefer, stating that the possession of metahuman abilities automatically should force one to be tried as an adult. My thoughts on such a "movement" are simplistic and can usually be communicated in a series of very impolite four letter words at very high volume. Especially when the apex of this movement's popularity escalated to protests and threats being made toward or around the Terrills' Philadelphia home. Which I'm sure only further exacerbated Joshua's mental distress. The movement has died down into the realm of vague conspiracy theories (though the movement endorsed Lex Luthor for president *cough cough*) and as far as is publically known Joshua continues his recovery in private, surrounded by trusted professionals and family. I will reiterate my personal and professional stance that the Terrills are owed their privacy and that any public speculation of Joshua's current condition is just that, speculation and I condemn any attempt to invade or interrupt the boy's life for our public knowledge, curiosity or "judgement"

Round One, Part Seventeen!
Who's the worse dad?

View the brackets here. Reasons for submission beneath the cut.
Happy Terril:
He locked one 10 year old son (Joshua) up in cryogenic suspension in a missile silo because he couldn’t deal with him. He then had his next son (Ray) raised completely in the dark by his brother and lied that if Ray went outside he’d die. And that’s just their origin stories.
A bitch-ass man who declined to raise his son for eighteen years, lied to him about sunlight killing him and to everyone else about his son having died in childbirth, and then had the temerity to complain about how the kid he did absolutely nothing to parent turned out. Somehow a worse father figure than Vandal Savage, a man who grows his descendants in vats so they can give him replacement body parts.
Submitting this in honor of my mutuals who are reading the rat. I only have second hand knowledge, but here’s a list of asshole moves: https://www.tumblr.com/zahri-melitor/733240370667929600/this-poll-has-thoroughly-amused-me-because-two
Ebenezer Batson:
He is Billy's uncle and former legal guardian, who stole the family's money and then abandoned Billy to live on the streets. He later tries to steal more from Billy, by taking the money he earned from being a radio jockey.

DC Legends: The Ray
Happy Terrill first appeared in 1940 as a hero for Quality Comics as a reporter who was in a hot-air balloon while being struck by a solar flare and a lightning bolt at the same time, giving him light-based powers. Arguably the more interesting version of the character is his son, Raymond Terrill, first appeared in 1992, who was the end-goal of the scientists who sent Happy up there in the first place, a man born with inherent powers over light so that they might be able to communicate with some great cosmic being.
Both Happy and Raymond have power over light, able to bend it and shape it to their will, to create constructs and illusions, to make themselves invisible, and to fire blasts of energy at their enemies. Raymond also has the innate ability to turn himself into light, allowing him to move at lightspeed at will and making him impervious to damage.
If I were to adapt the story, I'd probably have Raymond be the protagonist, with Happy appearing as a mentor and only briefly going over his origin and all that. If I were to use Doctor Polaris as the villain for anyone outside of Green Lantern, it honestly might be for him. And I might just make it an episode of the series for smaller heroes, not sure.
As for the casting, I'd want someone eighteen or maybe a little bit older for Raymond, with an older actor for Happy. Sterling K. Brown honestly feels like a strong contender for the role of Happy to me, maybe paired with Ashton Sanders or Caleb McLaughlin as Raymond.

Time for some Joshua Terrill propaganda. I think DC should bring him back. For chaos.

Look at this innocent baby.

He is tiny and sweet and harmless. He goes by the code name Spitfire and he used to fight supervillains with his dad back in the early 1950s.
He was born in the mid-late 1940s. He was cryogenically frozen by his own father for 40 years.
He’s just a lil hungry kid.

Who has fine enough control over his light ray powers to pop popcorn with it.

Oh and also blow you to kingdom come if you scare him. He doesn’t like monsters.
#joshua terrill#he is adorable and I want to also take him home and put him to bed#far far away from Happy Terrill

You know, I understand Tim being bisexual in the comics, but I’m reading the Ray and wondering why he wasn’t too given his “history” with Jenny and -cough-horriblewritingforher-cough- Dinah, but then these show up:
This is a somehow sentient computer program Ray programmed that’s been auto activating and I’m sure it’s explained later, but if this doesn’t scream Daddy issues that turned into a fetish, I envy you. Well, we know a large part of his search history now.
#ray terrill#the Ray#death masque#I’m sorry there’s no straight explanation for this#and Jenny I understand since literally the only human who has cared about him so far#but Dinah Lance? Black Canary? I feel that if I look up the writer I won’t be happy in the slightest

hello hello hello
i just want to say i love your little drawings so much they're adorable and so full of life and everything feels exciting in them and i love how you draw and make really fun stuff for many of the minor characters, you're doing such a good job with them and it gives me so much joyy
Hi Hi Hi
Thanks for liking my stuff! Happy to bring you joy, drawing these brings me joy!
Also its fun to get into and draw minor characters because their reading lists are super short lol! But I like to give a little love to characters that most people might not know about, in fact here's some random drawings that I had in the back-burner for the past year! Never could find a chance to just post them:
Here's a cute drawing of Cyclone, Maxine Hunkle! Wanted to give her a cute costume makeover. Kinda has a magical girl look to it huh? Took a bit of inspiration from Ojamajo Doremi, but also she's meant to resemble Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz! Both the princess and the witch. I have a bit of idea of what I'm going do with her, but that's for later.

Got a drawing of Gan, Jason's friend from the Knight White books. Not sure if she exist in my Training Wheels au, but I like her a lot. Her rapport with Jason was fun to read.

Here it looks like the Outlaws are trying to recruit new members, from the Relative Heroes group, Damara Sinclaire (Allure) and Tyson Gilford (Blindside). They're not likely to join, preferring to stick with their own group. Just as well since Damara's powers might make things a rather chaotic, she doesn't need that drama in her life lol. Tho I like the thought of Tyson helping out now and then, his invisibility would be pretty useful.

Here's some random assortment of heroes, Ray Terrill the...Ray. Amethyst, tho top pic is uncolored (im lazy) but theres a Sailor Amethyst to make up for that.
There's the first Green Lantern (Alan Scott) with his kids,Jade (Jennifer Lynn Hayden) and Obsidian (Todd James Rice). Wonder why their babies here, de-aging mishap?
Jason and Toni gossip about their fellow teammates, and down below Jason decides to annoy a young Kyle Rayner. A universal constant!

Todd can't help but join in!

Also some cute father-son bonding! I sent this to someone else earlier, so imma just stick here too.

For a really minor character, here's Jay, Eddie and Rose meeting up with a very strange new friend!

And lastly here are the Metal Men, or should I say the mini-Metal Men. Read some comics about them, including a bit of silver age as well (they get destroyed pretty often, kinda funny ngl). I thought about what kinda sidekicks they could have, but I didn't want to look up metals or learn about metallurgy or chemistry or whatever. So I just made them smaller, its just temporary though, aren't they cute? Look at poor Copper, she just wants to join in!

Anyways, hope that wasn't too much, tagging all of this is gonna suck.
Sorry I haven't been posting, due to Tumblr being a pile of shit and trying give our stuff to ai websites. So I thought I would download nightshade and glaze, but that didn't work out at all (I got a new laptop but it still wont render for me at all). So I'm just gonna hope my opt-out in the settings will be enough for now. Sigh!
Hope you like all this anon, might be a while til I post again. Later!

@smileything US: "Ah hei og velkommen my friend." Me: *I look up from my notes* "You speak Norwegian?" US: "I speak any language carried on the backs of those who came to this nation seeking freedom and prosperity for their children. You looked at the demographics of the upper Midwest recently?" Me: "Touche." US: *He inspects the question, rubbing his forefinger and thumb over his eyes and the bridge of his nose* "Those children..." *He slumps back in his chair* "I know 'em well, instantly in my mind's eye. Cherry Bomb, Ladybug, Betsy Ross and Molly Pitcher. I have all these memories of them tagging along on adventures, hanging around at our ankles during meetings. The light they brought to the grim lives we led in those days." *He clenches his fist until it shakes* "And we left them here, on this world, thinking they would be safe. That the war was won. They could go on about their lives again even as we rushed off to the next war. And someone took them from us. Not the years from their lives and mark my words if I find out who stole these children from my comrades who are no longer with us I aim to CORRECT the unfairness of that cruelty." "...as of now, they're safe. Being looked after by myself and some of the heroes who followed in their mentors' boots. I've half a mind to never let them out of my sight again.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------ *We took a small break at that moment and came back to the questions the next day when Sam had been able to recover from that emotional heavy dose* Me: "This one seems to be a hot topic." US: "It's a natural curiosity to have once I explain who and what I am. The short answer is yes. There are lots of spirits like me and not just for the big nations you might expect." Me: "So there's one for EVERY country?" US: "More than that. For people groups, tribes, communities in disapora. The nation makes the spirit, not the other way around. Any group that has members who can give energy to a spirit, there a spirit is. Lots of the bigger ones are like me. Some take forms a whole lot less human than I tend to. Some of the smaller ones are barely able to take physical form at all, I'd have trouble describing them." Me: "A symbologist or heraldist would ask you to." US: "Those people are, to put it kindly, up my breeches every day of the year anyhow." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Me: "I've told the story of your travels to Earth X in broad strokes before but people want to know how you came upon knowing it in the first place." US: "It was an accident, sure enough. Born out of honest to god desperation on the Ratzi's part. By '45 they were grasping at straws. Anything they could think of that might turn the war around, all while Uncle Joe was flattening them into Hamburger and taking big steps toward Berlin with every sunrise." Me: "So the gate to Earth X was some kind of Wonder Weapon?" US: "Something along that line. The Freedom Fighters, me, Black Condor, Phantom Lady, Human Bomb, Doll Man and The Ray smashed into one of their little mole holes and found the gate. Best we could tell their plan was to bring the victorious Nazi army through the gate and sweep over the world with it. We stopped them from putting that in action but...none of us could really put the thought away." Me: "A world being under Nazi tyranny?" US: "I'm no old coot. I understand how the multiverse works. There's infinite realities where the rats got some version of what they wanted...still...there weren't infinite universes in front of us. Just the one. And millions of people who needed heroes." Me: "You had just finished fighting a war. None of you could have been eager to fight another one, on worse ground, against a worse version of the same enemy." US: "'Course not! It was the damn dumbest thing any of us ever did...but in the days after the war. After what they dragged poor Sandra through in their little dog and pony show. None of us felt too attached to the world that didn't want us anymore anyhow." Me: "So you went through?" US: "More complicated than that, but yes, in the end. We even picked up another version of Rod Reiley, the original Firebrand over there. 'Course, just like the version here the brave idgit held the door for us when it was finally time to come home..." *Uncle Sam takes a sharp breath in, then out* US: "I still think about Rod damn near every day. We knew him so well. For decades, really. And he never got to cross the threshold into the world he deserved. 'Suppose it was in his nature to hold the door like a proper gentleman."

I recently read a book that had a surprise incest reveal at the end, and thought I must inform you and your followers! It's called Here Lies Daniel Tate, and it's by Cristin Terrill. The incest is between a brother and sister, and it's nicely hinted at throughout the book (in that I was shipping them from the start and guessed that the storyline was going in that direction pretty quickly). I wouldn't say it's a positive portrayal of incest, in the end, but it was a fun read overall and I would recommend it. It wasn't at all on my radar as a book containing incest (isn't it great when it's just a surprise bonus?) so I thought I'd give it a signal boost here! :)
New canon! This is so exciting.
Plus I'm happy for you because surprise incest is always fun.
Here Lies Daniel Tate:
A young, street-savvy runaway looking for a place to call home realizes he might have conned his way into the wrong family in this fast-paced and thrilling novel from award-winning author Cristin Terrill. When ten-year-old Daniel Tate went missing from one of California's most elite communities, he left no trace. He simply vanished. Six years later, when he resurfaces on a snowy street in Vancouver, he's no longer the same boy. His sandy hair is darker, the freckles are gone, and he's initially too traumatized to speak, but he's alive. His overjoyed family brings him home to a world of luxury and comfort he can barely remember. In time, they assure him, he'll recover his memories; all that matters now is they're together again. It's perfect. A miracle. Except for one thing. He isn't Daniel Tate. He's a petty con artist who accidentally stumbled into the scam of a lifetime, and he soon learns he's not the only one in the Tate household with something to hide. The family has as many secrets as they have millions in the bank, and one of them might be ready to kill to keep the worst one buried.
Sounds like a fun read. Thanks so much for the recommendation!
