02/20/2025 “Fiction and Feast” Progress Update:

Eyyy we finished editing section two of the first chapter. One more to go! We're at about 11K for the first chapter right now, anticipating maybe close to 13K for the final. Then the whole two-shot will likely be about 25K-ish in total. Certifiable yapper, that's me!

Was not feeling well and ALSO both of my eyes started to swell (love it so much, thank you body!!!!!!) so I ended up staying home from both jobs. Off-days are always a love-hate relationship for me, because on the one hand, I'm like "Yes! More time to write!" and on the other hand, I know I should probably actually rest lol. So I tried to do both: slept for a while; read some mutuals' fanfics (still making my way through Poor Unfortunate Souls and my my my I didn't know how much I needed a mermaid AU in my life until now); theeeen I wrote, hence the finished section.

Void journal time lol. Shut me up, honestly, what am I even talking about half the time. Today it's writing-related, though, so cool!

It's been raining the majority of the day (which isn't abnormal, it's the season) but it got me reminiscing about childhood writing days. As I've probably made abundantly clear, fanfiction is new territory for me, as is ao3, tumblr, and really everything else lol. But I have always always always loved to write. Writing has been a beacon of light my entire life. I used to carry a notebook around everywhere I went from elementary school all the way up to high school just writing what I saw. My favorite place to write, though, was inside a pink-roofed dollhouse in my mom's backyard, and it had such a distinct sound when it was raining. I've learned as an adult it was just the sound of hollow plastic, but I always think about it when it rains like this.

Short stories are my forte; I've written a lot of them. This is the first time I'm diving into long, complex stories, and I think one of the consequences is I try to have a lot of things happen in the narrative all at once. You don't get a lot of time to establish a world or characters or really anything in a short story; you gotta throw yourself right into it. So I apologize if much of the Phantom Thief AU feels like it's moving so fast, at least in terms of Shuichi and Kokichi's relationship developing. I say slow-burn, and I do mean it, but I think this slow-burn is more "slow-burn toward the relationship where lies stop happening".

Sometimes I feel like I'm a bit too self-indulgent when I reveal things like that. Know I don't consider myself a fucking fantastic writer by any means, probably exactly the opposite lol. I'm always desperate to improve. There are some fics I've read these past few weeks where I both SQUEAL at how well it's written, and then despair because hot damn I wish I could write like that. I haven't finished reading this one yet but an example is "so tonight that i might see" by avii, a komahina fic about Nagito waking up from the Neo World Program without any memory of it. And just what EXQUISITE prose this person has, oh my Lord. I'd like to include a snippet from the third chapter that just GETS me:

"[Nagito] watched the way the water pushed and pulled in upon itself. He listened to the waves grow and collapse. He was not the most symbolic of men, not by a long shot, but he thought the ocean must be the greatest thing to ever exist. It was hauntingly beautiful, but not only that, it was powerful. What else could have the might to all at once be so destructive, and yet stand so serene? It blanketed the planet, even dying as the planet was, expanding out to the very edges of its reach. So shallow, and yet so deep. If he were to walk in, breathe that water in, and let it carry him out, he'd never be found again. It would be thrilling. It would, in a way, maybe even be poetic."

Just... WOW. So lovely. Eat me up and chew me out so I may be branded with this level of talent. I want to describe everything so beautifully like that.

Anyway, sorry this one's long again. Ahhh but you should expect it from me by now. Everything is long with me, it's just how it goes.

I hope you have a lovely night. And I HOPE my eyes stop swelling tomorrow. This weekend will not be super open for writing (ugh) but I will still try to get this silly thing done by then so you can read my intensely experimental vampire saiouma fic. Uhhh hopefully it's a good experimental?? We'll see, we'll see. Either way it's been fun to write, so that's all that matters.

So like, I don't think that Kokichi would actually be the jealous one in the relationship. Like, he would act jealous, only to see Shuichi get frustrated

Shuichi, on the other hand, would get jealous easily. Not too easily, but yeah-

The jealousy is caused by his low self-esteem and it gets worst when Shuichi is feeling down

There are times where Kokichi would try and make Shuichi jealous on purpose, just to mess with him, but he would apologise soon after. Shuichi is never happy about it, so he ignores him for the rest of the day.

Why I started this project:

Reading a physical, printed book is a very special experience. When I was younger, I printed out stories from ff.net, 3-hole punched them and clipped them into a binder, bringing them with me everywhere. Last year, I commissioned a hand-bound print of this story just for me. Now, I want to share that experience and joy and love with you, for readers who have already experienced this story, or for someone wanting to give it a try for the first time.

Even though I finished writing this 3 years ago, I feel like me printing and sharing this is something that I can do today to make a small difference, and hopefully make someone’s day if they need an escape and want a slow burn x murder mystery story.

Why I am only shipping to the US at this time:

My goal of this project has always been to get this book into your hands for free or as little cost to you as possible. I have never shipped anything “at scale" before, and as such, I want to ensure there are no issues, while fully covering the costs and following procedures within the US, where I better understand the shipping processes.

I would 100% love to figure out how to get the book into the hands of readers outside the US for a low cost, and to more readers within the US. I will continue to research this, and I ask for your patience.

What tools and services I used to create this:

I did the formatting and typesetting in the Overleaf LaTeX editor using a novel template that I then modified for margins and typesetting. I designed the cover in Clip Studio Paint, and used Mixam to print this as a zine. I’m more than happy to share my typesetting project files with other writers who are curious about my process!

Kokichi, otherwise known as Spotpaw, started as a rogue in a funney little rogue group. can't imagine who they'd be. He joins the clan cus he's interested in their life and also maybe DICE is like slaughtered idk im still figuring that one out. buuuut!! he does join the clan and as you can imagine it goes. great

kaito and kokichi rivarly persists. at first he's wary cus Spotpaw's an outsider, but eventually theyre only fighting just cus he doesnt fucking like Spotpaw LMAO (´▽｀*)

His name is Nightpaw btw. His grandparents are elders in the clan. They tell funny stories to the children and Nightpaw tells them facts about the sky and he never shuts the fuck up about how their warrior ancestors inhabit the stars. at the same time he is also freaked out of the idea of the medicine cats (hiii mikan!!) being visited by the ghosts of fallen warriors (´- `*)

and finally

Shuichi and Tsumugi. Had to get a little strange with the family lines because... warrior cats... but basically Olivekit and Threadkit were raised together as siblings. Unfortunately! Junko is very present! Under the name of Goldenclaw. Mukuro is here too btw her name is Blackstrike. I'd share their designs but i hit my 10 photo limit on mobile and im not getting on my computer for this. oh yeah abyway uhhh Threadkit is kind of Goldenclaw's kit?? Goldenclaw probably found her in a ditch somewhere and went "oh yeah i can make a legacy out of this". She makes her sister raise Threadkit under the guise that shes her biological kit, and because of that, Birchwhisker goes to her for help to raise Olivekit. blackstrike is not happy about this

It all starts out as one big clan run by Jin, who has...yet to be Warrior named. And for a while, they're the ONLY clan. Buuuut.... Junko is here. The SDR2 cast are here. it does not stay peaceful

I won't type it all out since I'm still figuring it out and also I want to post this before I back out from nervousness but basically, Junko-- Goldenclaw,, yeah she's feeling a liiittle rebellious. Despair rises. Civil war within the clan begins, and eventually, Goldenclaw and her (very brainwashed and manipulated) group split off from the clan to start their own. and then they go to war (((・・;) typical warrior cats stuff

Eventually the conflict ceases as Makoto takes leadership of the clan as Luckystar. And I think, in this world, this is how the 9 lives ceremony woukd start-- some of the cats killed under Goldenclaw's tyranny come back to revive him with 9 extra lives to defeat her. They discover some sorta moonstone/moonpool (i prefer the stone lowkey) during this story. the drama. thats the best part about warriors. the DRAMA.

ok that's all i think i got it out of my system. maybe i'll come back to this maybe i won't i dunno,, i have a bad habit of having an idea and then forgetting it a day later (；ω；) so. you guys get danganronpa battle cats instead of anything... normal. whoopsies

every. single. headcannon. that i saw you use here is MY HEADCANNON TOO?!?! like for example the tummy kisses- YOU GET IT!!! ive never seen anyone do it and it is my absolute favourite thing in the WORLD!! tummy kisses supermacy!! Not to be super parasocial by answering this, but I really appreciate your long message and I want to thank you properly for it, since I don't seem to find a huge pool of people my art resonates with. Happy to see you've bumped into my older DR fan content! I hope you're having a pleasant time in the fandom so far and everyone's behaving themselves.

I honestly really fancy some sweet Saiouma. I like to give them a more happy ending than what they got canonically and that includes allowing them to be more emotionally intimate and physically affectionate than Shuichi trusted himself to be with Kokichi when he was considered highly suspicious in-game.

I also think Shuichi is the boney, gangly one and Kokichi is, as you say, skinny with a little bit of extra here and there that doesn't really come across over his baggy clothes. I like how Shuichi imagines him super worked out & fit in the 5th trial recounting tho. Pookie was Locked In. Being older now I don't feel entirely comfortable speaking about headcanons of teen characters' bodies but yeah. That's what I intended when I made my old art (they were grown-ups in most everything I created. Hope that came across)
