𝐇𝐎𝐖 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐆𝐄𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐆𝐈𝐑𝐋 | 𝐆𝐀𝐁𝐄 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐔𝐋𝐓
Tumblr media
word count: 1.17k
summary: after six months broken up, gabe realizes he can't move on from you decides he has to win you back.
warnings: like one instance of cursing, not proof read
notes: based on 'how you get the girl’ by taylor swift. literally in love with my sherbrooke boy so i had to write for him
The rain slapped against the window, a loud patter sound echoing through the home you shared with 3 of your friends. It was the beginning of spring in Boston and the end of the school year was right around the corner.
It was slightly weird for you to be at home on a Friday night. At the beginning of last semester, you would’ve found yourself at Conte Forum, cheering on Gabe from the stands. However, that hasn’t been your reality for nearly 6 months.
At the beginning of last semester, you and Gabe had split up. Gabe, having had an all-time year with being drafted, starting at Boston College, as well as the upcoming World Juniors had left an unbearable weight on his shoulders that he couldn’t quite seem to shake. Feeling overwhelmed and lost, it began to take a toll on their relationship. Ultimately, the decision to break up had been painful but mutual. Gabe, unsure of what he wanted in the midst of all the chaos, needed space to navigate everything. Although heartbroken, you recognized that, allowing Gabe to have said space. So you went your separate ways, trying to move on from each other.
However, there was now a void in your heart, brought on by the absence of Gabe. The ache of missing him never faded, and the realization that you two truly belonged together deepened. What you didn’t know was that Gabe, too, had been feeling the ache. He missed the girl that was his first love.
In the meantime, the regular season had come and gone, the mens hockey team now on the verge of heading to the Frozen Four. Gabe, despite the recent success in hockey, was finding that nothing was making him completely happy. The memories of you still hung in the back of his mind and the guilt from having hurt you was still weighing on him.
Hollers and shouts filled his ears as he came off the ice and into the locker room. Gabe and the rest of the team were fresh off of a win that was set to send them to the Frozen Four. Like the rest of his teammates, Gabe should’ve been celebrating, relishing in the victory. However, Gabe couldn’t help but feel like something was missing.
It was you. You were what was missing. Gabe felt he couldn’t relish in his success unless he had someone to share it with. Unless he could share it with you.
Gabe peeled his equipment off, tossing it in his stall. Will approached his friend, watching as he frantically changed.
“Hey Gabo, whatcha doing?” He asked
“I’m going to y/n’s.” He said, tossing the jersey into the bin at the center of the room.
“You’re what?” Will asked.
“I’m going to see y/n.” Gabe said. “I need to get her back man, I’m miserable without her.”
Will could attest to that, having dealt with a heartbroken Gabe for 6 months now. He was no longer his usual self. However, Will didn’t know if you still had room in your heart for Gabe.
“Is she gonna take you back?” Will asked.
“I don’t know man.” Gabe shrugged, pulling on his gameday suit. “But I gotta give it a shot.”
Gabe shoved his belongings in his bag, shoving the bag in Will’s hands. “Take this back to our dorm for me?” Gabe asked will.
Will furrowed his brows. “You’re going right now? It’s fucking pouring out man.” Will told him. It had been pouring all day and hadn’t let up. Gabe nodded, pulling on his BC hockey jacket.
“Dude let me give you a ride at least!” Will tried to shout to Gabe, but he was already out the door, heading to your place.
A knock at your front door pulled you from your show. It had you confused as to who could possibly be at your door in the middle of a thunderstorm. Curious none the less, you got up and walked to the door, your slippers shuffling against the hardwood.
You opened the door to a drenched Gabe wearing a Boston College hockey jacket. His usual curls were flattened to his head, the rain taking away the volume. His eyes shone of determination, cutting through his rain-soaked image.
“Gabe?” You asked, your eyebrows furrowing in confusion. “What are you doing here? Did you walk here? Are you insane?”
Your questions flowed out without giving Gabe a chance to answer them. Gabe, however, didn’t respond to them when you stopped. “It’s been a long 6 months without you.” He says. “I miss you so much, and I was so stupid earlier. I was just too afraid to tell you what I wanted.”
You go to speak but Gabe continues. “I want you for worse or for better,” Gabe began, his voice carrying the weight of sincerity. “I know I broke your heart, but I promise you I will put it back together. I know I messed up but please give me the chance to fix it. If you’re not ready, I get that. I’ll wait for you. I would wait forever and ever.”
You couldn’t find the words but your brain was going a million miles a minute. 6 months you and Gabe had been separated. 6 months it had taken him to come to this realization. But the look in his eyes. The vulnerability in his eyes and in his words moved you. Finally having Gabe in front of you, physically seeing his face and not through a screen as you would go through your photos of him, you’re reminded of the love you’d once known. Your shared joy and smiles rushing back to your memory.
You think to the framed photo of you and Gabe that still sits on your desk, the only testament to a love that once was. The ornate frame that was a gift from Gabe contained a photo of the two of you from the summer. In it, you’re stood in front of Gabe, his arms snaked around your torso and his lips pressed to your cheek. The pair of you significantly more tan than you are now, Gabes faint freckles appearing from sun exposure. Your favourite moment was frozen in time in that photo.
Gabe's words, coupled with the visual reminder of your love melted away any skepticism that you were harbouring. You still had yet to find the proper words, but you opened the door and stepped aside allowing Gabe to step inside. He was dripping all over your floors but you didn’t quite mind. He shrugged off the drenched jacket, it landing on the floor with a slap. Your arms snaked around his neck, his wrapping around your body. His wet hair dripped onto your face, his body shivering slightly. Having him back in your arms felt right. As you embraced one another, it felt as if the flame was rekindled, although it had never truly extinguished.
You pull back slightly, placing a delicate hand to Gabe’s cheek. “I missed you.” Gabe says softly.
“I missed us.” You reply.

delilah's world! au - idea
let me know what you guys think of this!
in freshman year of high school (grade nine), delilah's pretty popular. it's not like she cares, but people want to be her friends bcz a) she's considered one of the top goaltending prospects in the country/world b) her dad and uncle and grandfather all played hockey and c) she talks with nhlers like they're her best friends. she's like a 'celebrity' in their eyes. lilah doesn't care about the attention, and slowly ppl stop flocking to her once they realize she has two friends and doesn't want to be friends with anyone who only talks to her because she's famous.
fast forward to junior year (grade eleven), she's paired up to do a project in english on the shakespearean play 'macbeth'. she's working with noah, a hockey player. he plays for the school team, and for some local team - but he's not really good enough to be drafted. he's an under the radar kind of guy. maybe he'll be one of the last picks/he'll sign a pto contract after going undrafted. but anyways, he's cute and he's very nice to lilah. eventually, he asks her out, she says yes, and they're a super cute couple. matt doesn't like him because he doesn't like anyone dating lilah, but he can't deny that noah's good to her. he wears her jersey on her gameday, he'll support her whenever she has a good or bad game, he's really respectful and polite whenever he meets her family/friends, he's just really good.
they're together through the end of high school, and they both go to northeastern for their first year of uni. they're both 17 at the time, so neither are eligible for the nhl/pwhl draft. they both play for the mens/womens hockey team. it's a stellar year for lilah, she's setting records left and right, playing for the us team also - like she's going off. he has a pretty good year in hockey too, but nothing compared to her/his own teammates. noah still shows up to almost all of her games as her biggest fan, he doesn't stop supporting her. she supports him too, and he surprisingly gets drafted by florida in the last round. he could make it to the nhl, but he's got work to do before that.
on the day of the pwhl draft about a week later (delilah declared), they're back home and he can't make it because he has work. he tried to get off, but it wasn't working out and delilah's okay with that because he's been there for basically everything. she gets drafted first overall because she's the best prospect in her year, and she has a little party with her family. after the party, she heads over to noah's house bcz they decided to meet up after he gets off of work. when she gets to his place, she basically walks in on him with another girl and that's when she learns that the only reason he was with her was to get noticed for hockey. he was sweet and nice and supportive so that he could get more exposure, and sure enough, one nhl team decided "why tf not? he's got contacts" lilah walks out and heads home and locks herself in her room.
matthew was sleeping so he had no idea, and the next morning, he's unsure if he should wake her or not. he wakes her up around 2pm, but she was never sleeping, she was just in her room and depressed. he tries to figure out what's wrong, and then lilah goes "i broke up with noah." and matthew's genuinely shocked bcz noah and lilah looked happy together, but lilah doesn't tell him much more. he tries to get brady on it, but lilah knows brady will immediately tell her dad, so she doesn't tell him either. she tells taryn, who keeps the secret from matthew and brady, but taryn tells mama/peach (peanut's world). anyways, they just don't bring up noah ever because lilah gets all closed off when someone brings him up.
fast forward nearly a month later, lilah goes grocery shopping for her and her dad, and she ends up bumping into mateo - a childhood friend of noah's, but him and noah had a falling out in junior year and they're not friends anymore (teo had a feeling that noah wanted to use lilah for his own career, but noah denied it and they stopped talking. he would have brought up his concerns to lilah, but he had no proof. and noah was nice to her, so maybe he was just making up things. (teo also had a crush on lilah since freshman year and noah knew)). anyways, her and mateo talk a bit, more than they ever talked while she was dating noah. he asks about noah (even though they're not friends, he feels bad for doubting him), but lilah shrugs and goes "you should probably ask his new girl. actually, i don't even know if they're dating, or if she's just a hook up." and she's starting to feel sick because he might've thrown away a nearly three year relationship for a hook up, or maybe he never loved her at all. and mateo freezes bcz he was right, he freaking knew it, noah just had everyone fooled. and he sees that lilah's upset (she's never angry, this is the first time she looks angry), and he like offhandedly mentions getting revenge. lilah's like "i'm listening..." teo tells her to meet him at a coffee shop and they'll talk more, but he has to head out now. afterwards, they decide to fake date and get noah jealous and that's going to be some beautiful revenge. lilah doesn't even want noah back, she just wants to hurt him for what he did, and even if he never cared about her, he cared about teo at one point.
and anyways, her and mateo end up falling in love instead.
note: i'm thinking of maybe making mateo a singer or a(n american) football player (like he's actually good compared to noah playing hockey)... (or maybe another sport idk...) let me know what y'all think!!

𝚅𝙴𝙽𝚄𝙴𝚂:
AH, BLUDGER - Celebrating a victory? Best do it with alcohol surrounded by adoring masses. But don't do that here. Nah, that yappy shit's reserved for GOODWIN'S. Now, if you're in the process of trying to forget a loss? Well then, we're keen to serve ya. Misery loves company, and Ah, Bludger is ready to pour you and your whole team a pint, a shot, or hell, we'll even hand ya the entire bottle at a very reasonable cost.
BARREL GOAL - The prime seller of all things Quidditch. They. carry regulation quaffles, cutting edge broomsticks, and jerseys for every team - yes, even the Cannons! Every Sunday, they hose a market on the strip outside their shop where independent broom makers, leather workers, uniform tailors, and hopeful gameday vendors peddle their wares and wisdom.
BENCHER'S PITCH - So called for its history as a pick-up pitch for players that never quite made it to game-time glory, Bencher's Pitch stands as the only unofficial pitch large enough to host an unscheduled game of Quidditch. The stands aren't as large as regulation pitches, but they're frequently just as raucous. While its function has evolved over the years, the pitch frequently serves as a secondary practice field. The catch? No team can schedule a specific time or date. What? Did you miss the part where it's entirely unofficial? No one's paying for book keeping here - except maybe those swinging by to place a bet on the latest pick-up game. If you stay around long enough, you may even see star players from different teams trade in their uniforms for the night.
GOODWIN'S - The premiere hotspot for all things celebratory! Goodwin's boasts live music, a zero tolerance policy against fighting, and a VIP section saved exclusively for players of the winning teams. This bar may be for winners, but general admission allowes boisterous fans to bask in the glory of their Quidditch heroes - occasionally, one might even descend from behind the velvet ropes to engage with their newfound groupies. But be warned - Goodwin's has an agreement with the Daily Prophet for exclusive photo rights to any patron that steps foot in their bar.
QUIDDITCH CENTRAL - A boring name for a rather boring location. If it weren't necessary, the game would be happy to be rid of it. Unfortunately, every great event needs orchestrators, and they need a place to work and gather. Hardly anyone involved with the sport has been able to avoid an annual visit to QC, be it to enroll as a player that season, to disclose their investment in a team, or to sign up as a vendor. The only real mystery of the place is the stranger standing ahead of you in the queue.
𝙵𝙰𝙼𝙾𝚄𝚂 𝙿𝙸𝚃𝙲𝙷𝙴𝚂:
BODMIN MOOR, CORNWALL - Surrounded by lush farmland, Bodmin's Pitch makes for a very scenic, albeit smelly, game. Many players remain rather fond of Bodmin, largely because it's the pitch with the largest safety radius should snitches or quaffles find their way outside the confines of the stands. Yet where players delight, fans find monotony - until 1884, at least. After the snitch escaped capture in the nineteenth century, fans always arrive at Bodmin a little on edge. Will this be another six month game, or will this finally be the day the long-lost snitch finds its way back onto the field?
EXMOOR, SOMERSET - A new stadium nestled on the banks of the river Exe and resting snuggly within a national park? What's not to love! The proximity to mildly adventurous muggles, unfortunately. For its first decade, Exmoor was concealed via an invisibility charm and patrons had to pick up Visibility Spectacles. After several incidents of fans falling down the invisible bleachers or being utterly incapable of finding the washroom, the Ministry lifted the invisibility charm and instituted a Masking Fog. The Fog is infamous for infiltrating the field, making the field infamous for particularly violent collisions and dirty play that goes unnoticed by referees.
CLIFFS OF MOHER, IRELAND - A seaside pitch, the stadium is considered one of the best for training players to handle any obstacle thrown at them. Almost constantly raining thanks to its proximity to the ocean, the Cliffs of Moher have sustained a characteristic salt-bleaching to the wood using the erect the stadium, and it's image is iconic to even the newest fan. Created to appease Irish teams, who otherwise had to join their English brethren to practice, this stadium is the newest & most controversial, given it was almost entirely funded by the owner of the reigning champions, the Ballycastle Bats, and tends to cater to that particular team's strengths.
ILKLEY MOOR, ILKLEY - The most sacred of all pitches, Ilkley Moor is the oldest Quidditch pitch known to the British and Irish Leagues. As such, the sport's most ceremonial games (such as the season opener, National Team try-outs, World Cup matches, and regular season championships) are hosted here. Prime seats in the stands are passed down through generations rather than auctioned off each season, and many fans will quickly tell you that if they can only attend one game per season, they'll be at Ilkley Moor, no matter the team.
YORKSHIRE MOOR, YORKSHIRE - Ah yes, everyone's least favorite pitch. Given Britain's limited landmass and borderline overpopulation, there are few places remote enough to support full-scale Quidditch games, and Yorkshire made the most unfortunately sacrifice: volume. Located close to muggle communities, Yorkshire pitch is known for drawing muggle attention, and after several close-calls, the Ministry has resolved to only use Yorkshire Moor for low-level games expected to draw small crowds. Starting or ending your season at Yorkshire Moor is the largest insult game schedulers may inflict upon players and fans alike.
ELLIS MOOR, LONDON - Unlike its competitors, there is nothing particularly special about Ellis Moor except that it doesn't technically exist on Muggle maps, despite the fact that it hosts the most practices of the season. Protected by a city overhead, Ellis Moor is a nod to where Quidditch has come from, rather than being the exact location of where it is. Connected to Quidditch Central headquarters, the Ellis Moor stadium is an underground pitch that uses the most advanced hiding charms to keep it protected from the Muggles being transported overhead. Much like a Muggle sportsdome, the inside is bare-bones, just the necessities, as most teams cycle through its stands whenever they have a game in the area, with their own equipment in tow. Since it is the home to any team for practices, it often has the most quarrels over scheduling - the partial necessity to have Quidditch headquarters right nearby. Some may even say the bureaucracy draws more blood than the scrimmages at Ellis Moor. However, it is large enough to allow up to (2) teams practicing at the same time - which has its own drawbacks, for sure.
𝚃𝙴𝙰𝙼 𝙰𝚂𝚂𝙸𝙶𝙽𝙼𝙴𝙽𝚃𝚂:
Note: Due to limited secluded locations across Britain and Ireland, teams have been barred from establishing their own pitches. Instead, they select their pitch from the five official Moorland Pitches, above. Teams select their pitch according to their rank at the end of the prior season. Some teams select based upon location, some based upon the ease of scheduling practices and likelihood of muggle interference. This season's selections are listed below. Strikethrough team's are not open for application ( yet ! ).
CLIFFS OF MOHER: Ballycastle Bats (1), Kenmare Kestrals (5), Pride of Portree (6)
ILKLEY MOOR: Montrose Magpies (3), Banchory Bangers (7), Wigtown Wanderers (12)
YORKSHIRE MOOR: Appleby Arrows (2), Holyhead Harpies (9), open slot
EXMOOR: Puddlemere United (8), Caerphilly Catapults (10), Wimbourne Wasps (11)
BODMIN MOOR: Tutshill Tornadoes (4), Falmouth Falcons (13), Chudley Cannons (14)
ELLIS MOOR: OPEN TO ALL

2019 Top Games of the Week: Week 10
Tumblr media
Friends, I won’t lie to you. This week is pretty bad. Aside from the obvious games, there are a few gems here and there if you’re willing to dig for them, but really, it’s not good.
-
The Top Ten Games of the Week
10. Miami FL 4-4 (2-3) at Florida State 4-4 (3-3)
That a game so irrelevant is on the top ten is a bad sign. I’m a big fan of this rivalry game, but sheesh, the rivalry is the only slightly interesting part of this matchup.
9. Georgia Southern 4-3 (2-1) at #20 Appalachian State 7-0 (4-0)
Perhaps the best rivalry in the Sun Belt. Georgia Southern’s triple option is likely the only thing coming remotely close to challenging Appalachian State as the Mountaineers sprint to an undefeated record in conference play.
8. Virginia Tech 5-2 (2-2) at #16 Notre Dame 5-2
After a horrific start, Virginia Tech is back in the ACC Coastal race. They probably won’t beat a mad Notre Dame squad, but the Hokies have started to patch things together.
7. NC State 4-3 (1-2) at #23 Wake Forest 6-1 (2-1)
Wake Forest is attempting to win 9 or even 10 games this year, a major feat for the smallest P5 school. NC State has disappointed so far this season, but probably has something in store for their in-state rival.
6. TCU 4-3 (2-2) at Oklahoma State 5-3 (2-3)
TCU and Oklahoma State are fumbling to keep in the Big 12 race, which has opened up a little bit now that Oklahoma has lost.
5. Virginia 5-3 (3-2) at North Carolina 4-4 (3-2)
I’d have to check the archives to make sure but I think the South’s Oldest Rivalry makes the Top Ten for the first time ever. Virginia and North Carolina currently find themselves at the top of the Coastal Division standings and the winner will have pole position in the race for the ACC Championship Game.
4. #15 SMU 8-0 (4-0) at #24 Memphis 7-1 (3-1)
I am so happy that this game will host Gameday. Is it nationally relevant? Sure, and we should celebrate it. Will it impact the Playoff race? I’m afraid that it won’t. At this point I don’t see the Committee even considering the AAC Champion. Still, I’m personally more interested in this game than most of the top 5.
3. #9 Utah 7-1 (4-1) at Washington 5-3 (2-3)
Washington is the biggest hurdle Utah has to face in the regular season. The Utes are making a push for the Playoff as the darkest of dark horses (outside of a 2-loss SEC team I guess). I don’t know what to make of the Huskies right now. They’re still clearly a talented team, and very capable of this upset, but can they pull it off?
2. #7 Oregon 7-1 (5-0) at USC 5-3 (4-1)
Yest the PAC-12 is back in the Playoff discussion. It feels a bit strange. Oregon is making a bit louder of a push than Utah and the Ducks are attempting to win out and crash the party. They’d be the second team ever to go 9-0 in PAC-12 play after the 2010 UO team. USC still controls the South, and needs to lose twice to give Utah the division.
1. #8 Georgia 6-1 (3-1) vs #6 Florida 7-1 (4-1)
Well duh. This is clearly the biggest game in the country this weekend. The biggest stakes, the SEC East, the Sugar Bowl, the Playoff even. It’s all on the table for the winner, and the loser might even make a NY6 bowl if they play their cards right. The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party commands the attention of the nation.
-
5 G5 Games of the Week
This list is pretty pathetic. I’ll be the first to admit it. I like to only use games featuring teams that don’t have losing records, and I can’t even do that here. There literally weren’t enough. Yuck.
5. Buffalo 4-4 (2-2) at Eastern Michigan 4-4 (1-3)
Essentially a placeholder unless you really care about extremely hard-luck programs struggling to bowl.
4. UAB 6-1 (3-1) at Tennessee 3-5 (2-3)
The team with a losing record that would usually preclude it from the G5 list is Tennessee lmao. The Vols are lucky it’s such a desolate week. I won’t even pretend to be evenhanded here. Go Blazers! Drive the stake in!
3. Army 3-5 at Air Force 6-2 (4-1)
Suddenly Army seems to once again be the weakest of the Service Academies. The plucky Black Knights will be underdogs against a salty Air Force who have been playing some very good ball lately.
2. Florida Atlantic 5-3 (3-1) at Western Kentucky 5-3 (4-1)
The C-USA East race is pretty tight, if you care about C-USA. Lane Kiffin is involved at least, so you might want to keep one eye on this game at least.
1. #21 Boise State 6-1 (3-0) at San Jose State 4-4 (1-3)
San Jose State is having their best season since David Fales was QB. But here comes Boise State to grind up the Spartans.
...unless

FCS Games of the Week
3. #16 North Carolina A&T 5-2 (3-1) at South Carolina State 5-2 (3-1)
We’ve got our first HBCU showdown to make the FCS Games of the Week list. NC A&T has been the class of the HBCU’s for the last several years, but are looking a bit vulnerable. Meanwhile, South Carolina State is off to their hottest start in years and looking to knock off their rivals.
2. #9 Northern Iowa 5-3 (3-1) at #7 Illinois State 6-2 (3-1)
The MVFC race is down to four realistic contenders, with NIU and ISU deciding who will remain in the top 3.
1. #3 Weber State 6-2 (4-0) at #6 Sacramento State 6-2 (4-0)
Chaos reigns in the Big Sky as two traditionally noncompetitive teams are vying for the league title. Neither team has yet lost to an FCS opponent.

Valentinesversary
Prompt: Nate MacKinnon, sex in his louboutins bc he’s a bougie bitch For: @coltparayko Warnings & Tags: plus-size reader (briefly touches on body issues), nsfw, bougie bitch sex, literally nate mackinnon has a luxury kink, unprotected sex Word Count: 3368
Other Notes: Outfit inspo for this fic here <3 thanks a million to @theainur for beta reading for me!
On the whole, Nate was pretty careful about money. It was endearing to you, really, how he insisted on price-checking the furniture for your shared apartment while the two of you shopped at IKEA, or how he still clipped coupons when he went grocery shopping. You were used to being careful with your money, but Nate was a professional athlete. He didn’t really need to, but yet, he cared about saving his money...
Except when it came to his game-day clothing.
It wasn’t a surprise that hockey players dropped money on bespoke suits for game days, and Nate was no different. From the first time you went to the tailor with him, you could see how much he enjoyed being involved in the process, from picking fabrics to asking about the measurements to accessorizing. You liked seeing the ways his eyes lit up with interest. The guest room closet in your apartment was wholly dedicated to his gameday suits, shirts, ties, and shoes.
Oh, the shoes.
The first time you saw his Louboutins, it was early in the season, at a home game against Minnesota. He’d finished dressing and headed into the kitchen for his pre-game glass of water and a kiss from you, but something was different. You noticed immediately. He was holding himself differently, with more… assertiveness, confidence. You’d seen the suit before, so that hadn’t changed. You inspected the suit, the shirt, the tie, and you couldn’t figure out what had changed until he went on his toes to reach for a glass and you saw the distinctive red bottom of his shoes. You mouth went dry and you mentally calculated if he could leave just a little bit later. It appeared he wasn’t the only one affected by the shoes, then. You kissed him a little deeper before he had to leave, and you were sure you felt him cop a feel before he departed with a cocksure little smirk.
Ever since then you made sure to notice his attitude change when he wore them and you reveled in it. A few months later, his pre-game kiss had even become pre-game trapping you against the doorframe and leaving you breathing heavy with a desperate need for some quality time with one of the toys in your nightstand before you dressed to head to the game yourself. It was that day that your idea was born.
You started saving up your money on the side, being sneaky, careful. The two of you had a shared bank account so you’d get out cash for lunch or shopping or something and put aside the bulk of it in your underwear drawer. By February, your plan was in full-swing. Your anniversary was on the 16th, which was close enough to Valentine’s Day that the two of you usually celebrated both days together (a ‘Valentinesversary’ Nate had called it your first year together and it had stuck). Nate had a home game on the 15th and you suggested the two of you could go out for a late dinner together after the game. He could get back into his game day suit and you’d dress up for the game, so you could leave right from the arena.
At his request, you set out your favourite suit for him on the guest bed: a perfectly cut single-breasted narrow shawl lapel charcoal jacket with matching modern-cut trousers that made his ass look fantastic. You paired it with an off-white linen shirt, and a silk dark green skinny tie with small cream-coloured polka dots and a matching pocket square. You left his Louboutins out next to the suit in a sort of silent declaration of what you’d both been skirting around for months: that the shoes were… well, sexy. They inspired something in the two of you and well… if there was any particular night to celebrate that, it was your anniversary.
When Nate changed and headed into the kitchen, you were still in your robe. He drank his glass of water, then crowded you against the sink for his goodbye kiss. He was definitely on the same page as you, completely forgoing the light brush of the lips in lieu of crowding you against the counter and taking you apart with his lips as his fingers deftly untied your robe. His palm ran across your soft stomach before curling around your hip and holding you against him as he broke the kiss to drag his mouth across your jaw, down to your neck. His lips slid over your skin and you whimpered his name just as he stepped back away from you.
“Tease,” you mumbled sullenly, though your expression softened at his impish grin.
He reached out to squeeze your hand as he grabbed his keys off the counter next to you. “See you after the game, Y/N,” he said, giving you one last, light kiss on the cheek. “Happy Valentinesversary.”
As soon as he left, you went into full-get-ready-mode. You already had everything hidden in the back of your half of the walk-in master closet. You had treated yourself to a spa day the day before to get exfoliated and waxed in all the necessary places, and Gabe’s fiancée, Mel, was due to arrive any moment to help you with your hair and makeup. You slid off your robe and changed into your favourite (and most supportive) lingerie set before sliding on the sleeveless navy dress you’d gotten a few months ago. It settled nicely over your curves, something you might have been too hesitant to wear it before, but Nate had been really good for you. He loved your curves, and the way he genuinely reacted when you showed them off rather than hid them had done a lot for your self-confidence since the two of you started dating. The dress hit you just above the knees, teasing just the right amount of your thick thighs that you knew drove Nate wild. You got out your slouchy white cardigan to keep the dress a little casual for the game and keep you warm when you were outside. While you waited for Mel to arrive, you got out the special ‘gift’ you’d been saving for for months. The brown box with white writing was on the center of your bed, ready for the evening you’d planned.
Mel arrived, expertly helping with your hair and makeup so it could be done a lot faster than if it had just been you. She was a wonderful, supportive friend. You were hesitant at first, when you started seeing Nate. You didn’t look like the other partners of the guys on the team, but the group was so warm, so supportive, and you didn’t ever once feel out of place with them. You were grateful for their friendship, and it was nice having a support system of people who knew what it was like to date someone who was away so often.
Mel finished the last of the curls at the back of your head before you realized the two of you should head out soon.
“Can I see them?” Mel said, nodding to the box. She was the only one privy to your plan and the “Louboutin Saga” as she called it.
You got the shoes off, handing her one to appreciate while you got the other one on your foot. They were white patent leather strappy stiletto heels, higher than you normally wore, but you’d tried them on a few times to get your feet used to them. Walking was a challenge, but not impossible and luckily, it hadn’t snowed lately so you wouldn’t have to worry about slipping and falling.
“They’re gorgeous, Y/N,” Mel said, handing you the other shoe so you could put it on. “He’s gonna love it.”
“I hope so. I’ll keep you updated after the game,” you laughed as the two of you headed out.
Mel laughed as the two of you got into her car. “Not if everything goes according to plan. I won’t hear a peep out of you until at least tomorrow while you’re recovering.”
--
The game went well, the Avs winning a decisive 5-2 victory. Nate had the game winning goal, as well as an assist on Barrie’s empty-net goal. You were sure he’d have some media to handle in the locker room, and luckily you’d come prepared with your spare key to his car so you could sit in the warmth of his heated seats while you waited for him. You’d lost some time catching up on instagram when the driver’s side door opened and Nate slid in, back in his suit, his hair still wet from his post-game shower, and his smile wide and lighting up his whole face.
“Enjoy the game?” he asked before leaning across the center console to give you a gentle kiss.
You nodded, smiling against his lips. “You looked great out there,” you hummed. “I’m proud of you.”
Three years with Nate and his cheeks still flushed pink when you told him you were proud of him. It was sweet.
When you arrived at the restaurant, a nice Italian place you’d been going to on special occasions since you met, Nate stepped out and handed his keys to the valet before coming around to your side to help you out of the car. You purposely flashed him the red from the bottom of your new Louboutin shoes and smiled to yourself as he froze, looking as though he was choking on air.
“Happy Valentinesversary,” you quipped, smirking at him as he finally took in the rest of your outfit, looking like he wanted to devour you there and then.
“I-” he started, opening and closing his mouth a few times before seemingly realizing that words weren’t going to come to him easily anytime soon. He quietly offered his arm to you, then helped you out of your cardigan when you got inside. He ran his palms up and down your bare arms as the maître d’ looked up your reservation. “You look…. Wow…” he murmured in your ear, nuzzling against you for a moment before the two of you followed the host to your table.
Dinner was as incredible as always. You were always a fan of anything they did, so you never minded trying whatever the chef’s special was. This time it was a duck confit and ricotta gnocchi with grilled beef tenderloin over roasted asparagus in a honey truffle glaze. You never wavered on your dessert preferences, though. Their crème brûlée was, quite frankly, dessert porn. And the way Nate blushed all the way down to his neck when you moaned at the first bite was certainly an added perk.
Nate’s hand was resting low on your back, just above the curve of your ass as you waited for the valet. His gaze was still heated and you were starting to shift with anticipation for the through dicking down you knew you were going to get when you got home. It was always so easy for you to read Nate’s face, and for him to read yours. It was, you thought, one of the things that made your relationship so strong. You could always communicate with each other, but sometimes you didn’t need words. The two of you knew each other so well.
As he drove home, you took your time looking at him, the way his thighs barely fit the trousers, the way his hand curled around the gear shift, and at one particularly well-lit stoplight, you found yourself wondering the safety ramifications of sucking him off as he drove.
“If you keep looking at me like that, we’re not going to make it home,” Nate’s amused voice broke you from your thoughts as they grew more and more indecent.
Your eyes found his just before the light turned green and you grinned. “Better get home fast then,” you replied. “I’m feeling very impatient.”
“Me too,” Nate replied, lifting his hand from the gear shift to your thigh, sliding up and squeezing before he had to change gears again.
You shifted in your seat until he finally turned into the parking at your apartment building. You got out before he’d even turned the car off, impatiently digging your key out of your purse so you could get in the door as fast as possible. Nate wasn’t far behind and as soon as your apartment door was shut behind you, Nate backed you against it and kissed you breathless, his hands finally exploring your body the way you’d both wanted him to do all damn night. You pushed your cardigan off while he’d worked your dress up around your waist. You started to toe off your heels but his hand tightened around your hip.
“No,” he said, his voice hitching. “Leave ‘em on.”
You grinned as you helped him pull your dress over her head. He mutely stared at your lingerie while you answered him. “Only if you leave yours on, too.”
He nodded dumbly, sliding his coat off and folding it over a chair before unbuttoning his cuffs and rolling them up his arms. You stared, mouth watering. He knew how much you were enjoying this. You didn’t have time to talk yourself into pushing away from the door, because it was just a few more seconds and he had his hand on one of your thighs, guiding your leg around his waist, and his other hand was pushing your panties to the side to plunge two fingers into you. You started to whimper his name but he swallowed it with another kiss as he felt just how soaked you were for him. You rolled your hips up against his hand, wanting more friction, more movement, more something.
“God, Y/N,” Nate murmured, watching his fingers slide in and out of you. “The minute you got out of my car I wanted to fuck you right there on the hood. Those shoes. Fuck. I wanna buy you twenty more pairs, those red bottoms look so fucking good on you.”
You tugged him close again by his tie, digging your stiletto heel into his backside. “Got ‘em for you, babe,” you murmured before capturing his lips again, whimpering as his thumb found your clit, circling lightly.
He took his time, fucking you with his hand, but you were quick to get impatient and eventually you grabbed his wrist, curling it around the metal of his watch and tugging up till the two fingers he’d had inside you were rubbing in fast circles around your clit, bringing you off fast. He knew what made you tick and a quick orgasm before he fucked you sounded perfect. You came in a fast, sudden wave, your head falling back against the door.
“Fuck me, Nate. Now,” you whined, fisting your hand in his hair and bringing him into another kiss.
“Here?” he asked between kisses, and you nodded.
His wide hands explored your lace-covered breasts while you worked open his pants, freeing his dick and stroking it a few times before pouting up at him until he hooked an arm under your thigh and guided himself into you, stretching you and filling you and it felt like you were calling out his name in breathy little moans each time his hips snapped against yours, fucking you into the door.
“You feel so fucking good, baby,” Nate said, reaching down to get your other leg off the floor. He didn’t do this often, you always worried about your weight, but he’d made it clear that he didn’t care and loved fucking you while holding you up against the wall. The angle he was fucking you at changed as you curled your other leg around him, digging your heels into him as he held you up with two strong hands under your ass.
You steadied yourself with one arm over his shoulders but the other hand was free to slide from where it had been playing with his silk tie up to curl your fingers into his hair, tugging hard as he sped up. His pants finally shifted and fell the rest of the way down his legs, over his shoes.
The linen of his shirt was getting damp with his sweat as he fucked you harder, to the point where you couldn’t even form his name, let alone any other words. So, when he asked you if he could come inside of you, all you could do was nod and dig your shoes into his ass with encouragement. His hips stuttered and his head fell back as he spilled inside you, filling you with his cum and just holding you there against the door while the both of you caught your breath. His softening cock shifted inside of you as he toed off his shoes and stepped out of his pants and boxer-briefs. You tried to bring your feet to the floor, but he tightened his hands to keep your legs wrapped around him as he walked you, still filling you with his cock, to your bedroom.
After depositing you on the bed, he finally peeled your panties down your legs, still leaving your shoes on. He knelt on the bed, bringing your heeled foot to him and pressing a kiss to the inside of your ankle, then slowly working his way up your leg with a series of kisses, bites, and nibbles up to your thigh, where he sucked a hard bruise before you felt the hot air of his breath against your pussy. His thumb worked slow circles over your clit while he licked his cum out of you, moaning into your cunt the way you moaned around your dessert that night. He ate you out with a sort of enthusiasm that you knew his face would be covered in your juices.
“Fuck, Nate,” you cried as he moved back to take a deep breath, letting his stubble scrape obscenely over your thigh and your legs actually spasmed around his head. “Jesus…”
He chuckled before diving back into you, pressing his face so hard against you that you’d felt his tongue spear deeper into you deeper than he ever had before and when his nose bumped your clit, your orgasm took you completely by surprise. So much so that you cried out loud, unable to control your volume. You were pretty sure you blacked out or your soul left your body or something, because when you came to, you were breathing heavy, and Nate was kneeling over you, his knees on either side of your stomach. His face was soaked and he was already hard again. He grinned wide as he opened a wide, flat, distinctively blue box.
“Happy Valentinesversary,” he said, taking out a long, double stranded necklace. The silver chain was dotted with diamonds, pearls, and turquoise. It was beautiful. He reached down to gently lift your head and slide the necklace on you, looking appreciatively as it settled between your lace-clad breasts. You reached out to stroke him and he took your hand and kissed it. “I got it, babe.”
You tiredly hummed your agreement and ran your nails lightly up and down his thighs as he jerked off over you. As he got close, he aimed his cock at your chest, ribbons of white falling over your lingerie and your new gift.
“Did you really buy me a Tiffany necklace just to cum on it?” you teased, running your hand through Nate’s hair as he caught his breath.
He shrugged, giving you a sex-dopey smile and your breath caught in your throat. You loved him so much.
“In my defense, it looks really, really good on you,” he chuckled, near-collapsing on top of you and nuzzling against the side of your neck. He was making a huge mess and you didn’t much care. “So do the shoes.”
“You cum on these shoes and I swear to god you’re sleeping on the couch,” you laughed in response.
“I’ll buy you more.”

For the "not from the US" ask ^^: 1, 11, 13, 16, 20, 27... I think I picked many, hope it's ok ;vvv;
Hi! Of course it’s okay :)1. favourite place in your country?Other than Budapest, definitely Lake Balaton. My family and I spend a couple of days there every summer, on the south shore, swimming, cycling and just relaxing in general and I love it. It’s beautiful and I like it that the water is so shallow (in some areas)  that you can just take a walk in the water, if you want to. Last winter, it froze over, so we went down to do a bit of ice skating, that was fun too. :)11. favourite native writer/poet?Okay, this isn’t going to be a very highbrow answer, but my favorite Hungarian writer is Laura Leiner. She’s a YA author who has written 2 major book series (and is currently writing a third one), plus some standalone novels. The first book series (called Szent Johanna Gimi / St. Johanna’s High School) got her pretty popular in Hungary, so much that people (including me) would stand in line for 2 hours to buy the new book in the series on the day it came out. I like her books because I can relate to the characters, because she gets what being a teenager is like, plus the books are also quite funny. So if you’re looking for quality YA literature in Hungarian, I can wholeheartedly recommend her books.
As for poetry, I don’t have a favorite poet, but I do have a favorite poem. I’m not going to paste it here, because this post’s going to be long enough without it, but it’s called Láng, by Árpád Tóth.13. does your country (or family) have any specific superstitions or traditions that might seem strange to outsiders?
Uhm, well, there’s the fact that we generally don’t clink beer glasses, about which I’ve written more here. And it’s not Santa Claus who brings the Christmas gifts (he brings chocolate on the 6th of December), but the “Jézuska” (Little Jesus). There’s probably more, but I can’t think of any right now.16. which stereotype about your country you hate the most and which one you somewhat agree with?
I don’t even know if there are any stereotypes about us…besides the “oh, so you must be hungry all the time.” joke, which I’m not really a fan of. I’ve read it somewhere that Hungarians are pessimistic and/or unfriendly, and it is true that we generally do not rank too high on happiness charts (because of several reasons that I’m not going to list right now, but I really really wish that would change), but I’d like to think that we are just as friendly as other nations, even if a bit more reserved. Oh, and I’m not sure whether this is an actual stereotype, but it is true that many of us don’t speak any foreign languages, although that is changing, fortunately.20. which sport is The Sport in your country?
Football. Even though we aren’t any good at it, and haven’t been since the era of the Ferenc Puskás and the Golden Team (”Aranycsapat” in Hungarian), it’s still the most popular. But we are pretty good at waterpolo and swimming.
27. favourite national celebrity?
I’m not sure whether they count as celebrities (we don’t even really have that many “proper” celebrities, and definitely none that I could call myself a fan of), but I have some favorite youtubers. I really like the channel Pamkutya, run by two brothers, who make hilarious music parodies, plus they also have a really cool video series about their adventures, from sending a camera into space to visiting the real Santa Claus in Finland. I also follow Gergely Szirmai, who actually has 3 channels, one for movie reviews (Hollywood Hírügynökség / Hollywood News Agency - sadly not super active as of right now, but he’s made some really great videos, a few are even subtitled in English), a gamer channel (GameDay Iroda - he runs this one together with a friend; I’m not too into gaming, so I can’t say much about it) and a travel channel called AFK Légió, which I think is really interesting. Thanks for the questions!

We’re about an hour from kickoff in Madison, and there’s already some rather significant news to report. Illinois released its list of unavailable players for tonight’s game, and there are some big names on it.
Out at Wisconsin
DL Isaiah Gay DB Michael Marchese WR Trevon Sidney DB Devon Witherspoon OL Blake Jeresaty (season)
— Illini Stats & Notes (@IlliniStats) October 23, 2020
Defensive line was already a question mark heading into the season, and no Isaiah Gay only exacerbates that. Getting pressure on Wisconsin redshirt freshman quarterback Graham Mertz could be important. Gay’s absence means Illinois will have to put an inexperienced defensive end on the field to start the game.
Devon Witherspoon being unavailable is just as big a blow. You might remember the sophomore cornerback from his game-saving tackle in last year’s upset of Wisconsin. The big question, of course, is if Witherspoon is out does that mean Tony Adams moves back to corner or does Marquez Beason make his Illini debut as a starter?

Looking out from the Camp Randal Stadium press box to no one (save for some cardboard cutouts in the seats closest to the field) is a surreal feeling.
The press box itself is pretty empty, too. Wisconsin is taking the social distancing thing seriously. I’m at an end of a row, and I’ve got more than six feet between my seat and where the Chicago Tribune’s Shannon Ryan will sit.
Warmups are underway, but for the moment only the specialists for both teams are on the field.

The News-Gazette will be represented at Camp Randall Stadium for tonight’s Big Ten opener between Illinois and Wisconsin. Beat writer Scott Richey (that’s me as I shift to first person) is, in fact, set up in an undisclosed Marriott-brand location in Wisconsin right now prepping for his gameday coverage.
In a typical year I might venture out in Madison. Check out campus (again). In 2020? Hotel. Camp Randall. Nothing in between. Especially in Wisconsin.
The hotel was even a concession to 2020, in a way. The press box at Camp Randall is set to close 30 minutes after the last Zoom interview is complete. That’s not enough time to provide you all with the exhaustive coverage that will wind up right here at IlliniHQ.com in the wee hours Saturday morning. That and much more will grace the pages of Sunday’s News-Gazette.
The strangeness of 2020 aside, the drive from Champaign to Madison was exceedingly normal. I could have done without the rain, but being back on the road for the first time since early March (Illini basketball at Ohio State) was a surreal feeling. Then I hit the construction as soon as I crossed the Illinois-Wisconsin border, and all felt right with the world. It was a sign that at least some things never, ever, ever change.
In our still not-so-normal world, I won’t be joined for tonight’s game by News-Gazette colleague Bob Asmussen. Wisconsin credentialed just six total Illinois media members. It will be nice, though, to see the Decatur Herald & Review’s Joey Wagner, the Chicago Tribune’s Shannon Ryan, 247Sports’ Jeremy Werner, Gatehouse correspondent Gavin Good and Gabby Hajduk from the Daily Illini.
Here we go. I’ll check back in when I can get into Camp Randall at 5:30 p.m.

Here’s what you should expect in the Illini’s season opener
Three AP voters give their take on the Illini quarterback ahead of Friday night’s season opener at Wisconsin
‘Last year, when we played Wisconsin, it was an all-around effort by everybody,’ defensive lineman Jamal Woods said
Well, here we go again. The 2020 Illinois football, once thought lost to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, starts tonight in Madison, Wis. The Illini don’t ease into it either, with No. 14 Wisconsin first up in the revised (times two) Big Ten schedule.
No nonconference warmup in 2020. No shot at an Illinois State or UConn or Bowling Green before jumping into Big Ten play. No, it’s a headfirst dive into the deep end immediately instead.
The Illini and Badgers kick of at 7 p.m. at Camp Randal Stadium. Most will be listening (check out Brian Barnhart and Martin O’Donnell on WDWS) or watching from home. The Big Ten has banned fans in 2020, and even the allowance for families of players and coaches has been put on pause in Madison.
While you get ready for the start of the most unique Illinois football season in more than a century, catch up on our exhaustive preseason coverage leading up to today’s game. It was a team effort by the entire N-G sports staff, including long-time beat writer Bob Asmussen, sports editor Matt Daniels, preps writer Colin Likas with a major assist, copy editor Joe Vozzelli and beat writer Scott Richey.
Richey will represent the N-G in Madison as one of just six Illinois media credentialed to make the trip in the new COVID-19 world we’re living in. He’ll provide updates throughout the day and late into the night as befitting a 7 p.m. kickoff. (Don’t ask his opinion on that. Or do. He doesn’t mind sharing).
As always, right here at IlliniHQ.com is where all your gameday needs will be answered, including more from our preseason deep dive on the Illini:
Uniform tweaks further awareness of social justice issues
CHAMPAIGN — Illinois football players have taken an active stance on social justice issues in the last few months, including an athlete-organized march in late August against police violence and racial injustice. Redshirt junior offensive lineman Kendrick Green and senior cornerback Nate Hobbs spearheaded that initiative, and others have been active on social media to promote awareness, too.
The Illini will use Friday’s season opener at No. 14 Wisconsin to further that cause. Illinois will replace its traditional orange and blue Block I helmet decal with a black Block I instead.
“We wanted to show that we are aware of what’s happening in our country right now,” Hobbs said in an official release. “We’re willing to take a stand, not as one, but as a unit.”

Asmussen | Illini, get ready for a college football season like no other
CHAMPAIGN — It’s 11 a.m. on Dec. 5.
Three inches of snow blanket the Memorial Stadium turf. And the white stuff fills the empty stands.
Well, almost empty … except for the cardboard cutouts of fans ($50 to $99 a pop) and the faux Marching Illini.
In five minutes, Illinois and Iowa will run onto Zuppke Field to no applause, other than what’s generated by the loudspeakers and scoreboards.
No smell of roasting hot dogs or popcorn in the air. No beers being spilled on people in the next row.
Outside beautiful Memorial Stadium, the usual hustle and bustle are absent.
If the Dick Butkus and Red Grange statues could talk, it would be some version of, “What the heck is going on around here?”

GCMS grad Barnes aiming for bigger special teams presence
CHAMPAIGN — Bryce Barnes is readily visible for about 2 seconds.
His nameplate and number 48, in dark blue print on a gray uniform backdrop, are seen bouncing around before being sucked into a sea of humanity.
The then-Illinois football freshman turns into one small piece of a massive celebration, set off by James McCourt’s 39-yard field goal that allowed the Illini to upset No. 6 Wisconsin 24-23 at Memorial Stadium on Oct. 19, 2019.
It’s all archived in a YouTube video on the Illinois athletics website.
Of course, Barnes lived the moment. And the 2019 Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley graduate can provide a slightly different perspective from it.
“I ended up at the bottom of the pile, and (McCourt and I) were face to face underneath everybody,” said Barnes, who was blocking on the line as McCourt booted the ball through the uprights in front of the Illini band and student section. “It was an honor for me to be out there in such a big win for this program. I wanted to start crying just because of how happy I was.”

Asmussen | Illini O-line learns from earlier struggles
CHAMPAIGN — Kendrick Green, Doug Kramer, Vederian Lowe and Alex Palczewski have learned a lot about each other over the years.
Along with new-to-the-lineup Verdis Brown, they will make up the starting offensive line Friday night at No. 14 Wisconsin.
They are close. Not in a forced way. But naturally.
“I think it’s really simple,” Kramer said Tuesday. “There’s never been too many issues in our room. We’ve been friends from the start.”
“We’ve just seen each other grow up over these past three years,” Palczewski added. “We’ve all grown up from these freshmen who didn’t know what was going on.”
In 2017, they were part of a 2-10 team that didn’t win a Big Ten game. For the offensive linemen, it was a punch in the gut.
To their credit, they got better. Four wins in ‘18 and six last season.
Now, they want to take another step. Toward the top of the Big Ten West.

Illinois underdogs against Wisconsin again
CHAMPAIGN — Jake Hansen sauntered into the interview room at the Smith Center following Illinois football’s upset of No. 6 Wisconsin last October.
It’s the only way to describe Hansen’s entrance — cigar in his hands and a smile on his face.
Hansen also made a point of noting just how much the people that set the gambling lines considered the Illini underdogs against the Badgers.
“Thirty-one point spread, huh?” the Illinois linebacker yelled out as he made his way from a celebratory locker room to the small lobby outside the Smith Center weight room filled with reporters.
Monday marked the one-year anniversary of the biggest Illinois football win in more than a decade. It also coincided with the line for this year’s rematch with Wisconsin receiving a slight adjustment.
Wisconsin opened as a 23 1/2-point favorite last week for the 7 p.m. Friday Big Ten opener in Madison, Wis. Monday’s adjustment didn’t really make Illinois any less the underdog. The Badgers are still considered approximately a 19- or 20-point favorite.

SEC CHAMPIONS!!!!!
March 3, 2018 - Auburn Arena
It came down to the Regular season finale for Auburn in their quest for a SEC Championship. The Tigers had fallen in their previous 2 attempts to clinch in road games at Florida and Arkansas. Meanwhile, Tennessee had caught Auburn and would share with Auburn if they won their game that afternoon.
(Although, let’s be really clear and make it known that Auburn won it outright by beating Tennessee in Knoxville back in January of that season).
This marked the final home game for a friend of the program, manager Thomas Northcutt and the Jungle actually made a face cutout in honor of it that I must share with you all here.
Love you @TCutt!! So happy for you and for all the guys! War Eagle!! https://t.co/gAeQXYvxwE

And shoutout to the video guys for all of the incredible game content, especially these pregame hype videos.

Unfortunately early for the Tigers, things were not going well against a team who was coming off their program’s 1st trip to the Final Four a season ago.
South Carolina jumped out to a 25-11 lead 11 minutes into the contest. Auburn was 2-15 overall from the field at that point.
Jared Harper would knock down Auburn’s first 3-pointer moments later. Auburn would go another 4 minutes before making another shot but it was that shot that really got Auburn back into the game, along with the crowd.
Bryce Brown would knock down a 3 pointer with 4:51 left in the half and despite the shooting woes, the team was down just 26-21. Chuma Okeke would make one a minute later. The last 5 minutes of the half though belonged to Bryce Brown.
Brown would knock down a trio of 3-pointers during the stretch run of the opening frame and brought Auburn back from an early 14 point deficit. South Carolina led 37-35 at half but Brown’s 15 points put Auburn in position to claim the SEC title in the 2nd half.
Auburn would get the first 6 of the 2nd half to lead by 4 early but the Roosters would regain the lead. Bryce would hit his 5th 3 of the game to put Auburn up 46-43 with 15:36 left. A 6th 3 gave Auburn their biggest lead of the game, 49-43.
Auburn would lead by about 4-6 throughout the next 8-9 minutes of the game. Bryce’s 7th 3 of the afternoon put Auburn up 64-55 with 5:24 to go.
Jared Harper would take over some of the scoring from that point. Jared would score Auburn’s next 10 points knocking down a 3, and breaking defenders ankles while scoring on layups. Things were looking great with Auburn up 73-62 with 1 and then.....
Uh-oh. Confetti already flying in Auburn Arena. Tigers lead 73-62 with 1:39 left. SEC title within reach. pic.twitter.com/1GFSQJLLjU
— Auburn Gold Mine (@AUGoldMine) March 3, 2018
Ummmmm.... someone jumped the gun a little bit. And to tell you the truth, my heart sank because I knew the game wasn’t over and that South Carolina was fully capable of overcoming that deficit and then we would never live this moment down.
South Carolina would cut the deficit in half in about 30 seconds and Auburn led 73-67 with a minute to go. Fortunately, Mustapha Heron, was there to save the day.
Heron’s breakaway dunk following a missed 3 from South Carolina would put the final nail in the coffin for South Carolina. It was his only field goal of the game. Bryce Brown would ensure it was over making his 8th 3 of the game in the closing seconds. Auburn wins the game. Auburn wins the SEC and led the SEC wire-to-wire. Not bad for a team who was picked to finish 4-14 in the SEC.
Bryce Brown was 8-12 from 3-point range and scored 29 for Auburn.
He also went over 1,000 points in his career that day as well. Jared Harper had 18 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds. Mustapha Heron scored 12 and was 10-10 from the free throw line. Horace Spencer had 11 points and 6 rebounds.
Here are the highlights!
And here’s some celebration moments!

Patrick Mahomes‘ girlfriend Brittany Matthews made headlines this week after she claimed that she was harassed by New England Patriots fans on Sunday while cheering on her boyfriend, who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Matthews wrote on Twitter earlier this week that she had to be moved by security at the game because the Patriots’ hometown fans were harassing her. “Gillette security came and got us and moved us to a safe place

Mahomes, a quarterback for the Chiefs, and Matthews have been dating for years. Read on for everything you need to know about the former soccer star and current fitness coach.
She and Mahomes are high school sweethearts.
Matthews and Mahomes, both 24, met in high school while attending Whitehouse High School in Whitehouse, Texas. According to Yahoo! Sports, they’ve been dating since the 10th grade. In 2013, the pair went to prom together, as seen in an adorable throwback photo on Mahomes’ Instagram.
After graduation, Matthews went on to play college soccer at the University of Texas at Tyler while Mahomes played football at Texas Tech University. Despite going to different colleges, the athletic couple maintained their strong relationship.
“My valentine from the beginning to now!

Matthews is a former college and professional soccer player.
After playing college soccer at the University of Texas at Tyler, Matthews also went on to play professionally in Iceland, according to her website.
“I didn’t even see myself playing college soccer when I graduated high school,” Matthews said in a 2017 interview with the Tyler Morning Telegraph. “However, I ended up coming to UT Tyler to play soccer because it was close to home and I knew a few girls that played here that loved it and told me I need to join the family.”
“So I did, and these last four years have made me fall in love with soccer all over again and want to go on and play professional soccer,” she added.
The outlet reported that she signed with the Iceland pro team of UMF Afturelding/Fram after college.

She now runs her own fitness company.
After her soccer career, Matthews went on to form her own fitness company, Brittany Lynne Fitness.
“By the end of my first season , I truly began to fall in love with being in the gym more than being on the soccer field,” she explains on her website. “Playing sports my whole life got me into fitness and playing in college taught me about strength training, wellness and maintaining peak fitness to perform at an elite level.”
The company offers various training programs and gear available for purchase.

The couple plans on living together in Kansas City for a “long time.”
Earlier this year, Mahomes bought a $1.925 million house in Kansas City, the home of his football team, according to USA Today.
In an August Bleacher Report video showing the inside of the football player’s home — including his massive shoe wall! — the couple explained that they wanted to “set down roots” in the Midwestern city.
“Setting down roots in Kansas City was huge for us. I think the people are what we love the most about Kansas City,” Mahomes said. “We’re trying to be here for a long, long time.”
Matthews agreed: “Very long! We love it here.”

What to know about Super Bowl LIII: Start time, commercials, halftime show and more
Super Bowl LIII is this Sunday and you know what party you’re planning to attend, how to get there and which of your friends and family will be there.
Interested in Super Bowl?
Add Super Bowl as an interest to stay up to date on the latest Super Bowl news, video, and analysis from ABC News.
Now you just need to know everything else.
We’re here to help — whether you’re a rookie or a perennial Pro Bowler when it comes to the annual NFL championship game.
The basics
Super Bowl LIII (that’s 53, for those who struggle with Roman numerals) is Sunday, Feb. 3, and the official kickoff time is 6:30 p.m. on CBS.
The NFC champion Los Angeles Rams (13-3) will face off against the AFC champion New England Patriots (11-5). If you’re feeling a sense of deja vu, yes, the Patriots have been in the Super Bowl three years in a row and four of the last five.
AP
In this Dec. 4, 2016, file photo, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady right, speak at midfield to Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff after the Patriots won 26-10 in an NFL football game in Foxborough, Mass.
The Patriots are the betting line favorites at -2.5. The over/under is 56.5.
If you don’t have a team, know that the Patriots are fairly reviled outside of a certain six states.
Veteran play-by-play man Jim Nantz and Tony Romo, the former Dallas quarterback in his second year as an analyst, will be calling the game.
Former referee Gene Steratore will also be in the booth to talk officiating and Tracy Wolfson will be reporting from the sidelines.
The menu
First rule: Never show up to a Super Bowl party empty-handed. Don’t be the person who brings a 2-liter of soda and eats everybody else’s finely cooked foods, either.
We’ve had you covered for weeks, but we know you’re going to be pulling something together Sunday morning anyway.
Here are some ideas for the procrastinators:
Sweet and sour chicken wings or pretzel-coated chicken wings
‘Touchdown’ nachos with chorizo or Asian-inspired wonton nachos
Skillet pepperoni pizza dip or cheddar cheese fondue
And we’ve even got you covered if you’re trying to stay on a Whole30 or keto diet, with cheese chips and guacamole, cauliflower grilled cheese, sausage-stuffed mushrooms, Bloody Mary wings, Keto rolls and sliders, Golden sweet potato chips and many more.
On the other hand, if you’ve decided to buck your New Year’s diet, there’s always a 12-pound taco.
Play
We tried a 12-pound taco you’ll want on the menu at your Super Bowl party
The commercials
The only thing more scrutinized than the play on the field is often the commercials that air in-between the action.
With each spot costing more than $5 million, according to The Associated Press, you can bet companies will pull out every stop to make them memorable. That certainly means a lot of star power — everyone from Steve Carrell to Harrison Ford to Jeff Bridges and Sarah Jessica Parker will make appearances.
AP
This screen grab from video provided by PepsiCo shows an image from the company’s 2019 Super Bowl NFL football spot featuring Steve Carell. Star power abounds in this year’s Super Bowl ads.
Bumble, a dating app where women must first message men, has turned to tennis legend Serena Williams in its advertising spot. The ad in women-centric, of course, and even directed by an all-female team.
Cardi B will appear in Pepsi’s ad, alongside Carrell, as they answer the question, “Is Pepsi OK?” and Christina Applegate will get locked out of her car in an ad for M&Ms.
Classics like the Budweiser Clydesdales will also be returning to the roster of ads.
Play
First look at Steve Carrell and Cardi B in Pepsi’s 2019 Super Bowl ad
The halftime show
The only thing more controversial than a questionable pass interference call is this year’s halftime show.
The annual extravaganza is usually a career highlight for one A-list musician. Prince, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Bruce Springsteen and Katy Perry are among the boldface names to have done the honors.
Gilbert Carrasquillo/Getty Images
Singer-songwriter Adam Levine of Maroon 5 performs during Philly Fights Cancer: Round 4 at The Philadelphia Navy Yard, Nov. 10, 2018 in Philadelphia.
Maroon 5 will be performing at this year’s halftime — but not without controversy. Travis Scott and Big Boi will be joining him onstage.
Many performers turned down the opportunity — reportedly Rihanna and Pink among them — as a protest against the league’s alleged treatment of former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
The halftime show will go on Sunday, but Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine has been mum about the gig. The NFL skipped its usual press conference before Levine eventually telling Entertainment Tonight, “I’m not in the right profession if I can’t handle a little bit of controversy. It’s what it is.”
As a means of heading off some criticism, Maroon 5 and Scott will be donating half a million dollars each to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and Dream Corps, respectively.
The players and coaches
This year’s Super Bowl is a matchup between possibly the best coach (Bill Belichick) and best quarterback (Tom Brady) of all-time versus the current best young coach (Sean McVay) and best young quarterback (Jared Goff).
Belichick and Brady are competing in their ninth Super Bowl. They are 5-3 in their first eight appearances.
You probably know Brady: tall, handsome, future Hall of Famer, married to a supermodel. The 41-year-old already has more Super Bowl rings than any other starting quarterback, but he’d like to add a sixth this year (one for the other thumb?).
AP
In this Monday, Jan. 28, 2019, file photo, Los Angeles Rams’ Jared Goff talks to New England Patriots’ Tom Brady during Opening Night for the NFL Super Bowl 53 football game in Atlanta.
The other marquee players? You should know Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski. From Tide ads to celebrity gossip sites, and even professional wrestling, he’s one of the most marketable names in the sport. There’s also a chance this is his last game as a pro.
On the other sideline, this is the first Super Bowl for both McVay and Goff. Goff is in just his third year in the NFL and McVay his second as a head coach.
Goff is just 24 and a San Francisco Bay area native — just like Brady. His coach, McVay, is the youngest in the NFL and will be the youngest in Super Bowl history at just 33. Yes, eight years younger than Brady.
McVay is also known for his model partner: Veronika Khomyn. The Ukrainian model regularly posts snaps of the two on her Instagram page.
The pregame
The pregame programming for the Super Bowl is much longer than the game itself.
CBS begins its pregame at an inhuman 11:30 a.m. — a full seven hours before kickoff. The channel airs “That Other NFL Pregame Show” at 11:30 a.m., “Road to the Super Bowl” from noon to 1 p.m., “Tony Goes to the Super Bowl” — featuring analyst Tony Romo — from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., and “The Super Bowl Today” right up until the feature broadcast begins at 6 p.m.
And since you can never avoid politics, President Donald Trump will also be doing a pretaped interview with CBS around 3:30 p.m.
If you want to start even earlier, ESPN begins the preshow at 10 a.m. and goes for four hours until 2 p.m.
NFL Network, which is arguably always a preshow, begins its “NFL Gameday Morning” from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The game
If you like high-scoring passing attacks, you should be happy with the Rams. Goff threw for over 300 yards eight times this season and the Rams scored over 30 points in 13 games, including the playoffs. Brady is of course one of the best to ever throw a , and with receivers like Gronkowski and Julian Edelman, the game will likely see plenty of touchdowns scored.
The result may come down to the health of Rams running back Todd Gurley. There’s been plenty of mystery around his health, especially after the All Pro had just four carries in the NFC Championship.
AP
The Mercedes-Benz Stadium is seen ahead of the Super Bowl LIII, Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019, in Atlanta.
You can be sure there will also be talk about the referees, and especially pass interference, after the Rams lucked into a bad call in the NFC Championship that would’ve all-but-ended the game in favor of the New Orleans Saints. Just nod along, it was a bad call, and even the NFL has apologized.
It should be a close game regardless of who wins.
Then again, if the Super Bowl is just not your thing, here’s five shows to watch instead.

Who do you most want to see win a Super Bowl ring this year?
Tumblr media
Aging veterans? Perennial losers? Tom Brady, who only has five?
At Super Bowl 53, Tom Brady will be angling for his sixth NFL championship ring. If he fails, few people outside of the six states of New England will feel badly about it.
But there are 91 other players who take the field on Feb. 3 who will be in various stages of their first, last, or best chances to lift the Lombardi Trophy. Rising stars, sentimental favorites, and oft-overlooked journeymen will all have the chance to do what legends like Dan Marino, Randy Moss, and Junior Seau never did — claim their spot atop of the NFL and earn their spot drinking light beers and dancing top an open-roofed bus in a championship parade.
Even with the Patriots in the mix, majority of the athletes in this year’s Super Bowl have never won a league title. The range of experience for these ring-less wonders carries from undrafted rookies to 13-year veteran Andrew Whitworth. They’ll all be looking for the ultimate validation — a spot in a postgame shower of confetti, the opportunity to do happy Sunday night drinking instead of sad, and, months down the line, a ring so stuffed with jewels that wearing it for just 20 minutes would give mere mortals carpal tunnel syndrome.
There are several worthy candidates to earn their first Super Bowl title — but some are more worthy than others. So who do we want to see smiling and holding the Lombardi Trophy once the final whistle of the 2018 NFL season is blown?
Andrew Whitworth, OT, Rams
In 11 seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, Whitworth got to the playoffs six times and couldn’t get a single win. In his first season with the Rams, the offensive tackle made his seventh trip to the postseason and made another immediate exit.
It wasn’t until his eighth trip to the playoffs, and 13th season in the NFL, that Whitworth finally got that elusive first postseason victory. It was a special moment for the 37-year old, who celebrated on the field with his kids.
What a moment @awhitworth77 celebrates his first playoff win in eight trips. #FootballisFamily pic.twitter.com/j5xuNIDaCc
— Los Angeles Rams (@RamsNFL) January 13, 2019
“Name a guy who deserves it more,” Rams offensive lineman Rodger Saffold told ESPN after the game.
Whitworth was the Rams’ nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award and donated one of his game checks this season to victims of a November mass shooting in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
He’s played over a decade at one of NFL’s most thankless positions and he’s been an all-around good guy every step of the way. Super Bowl 53 may be his last chance to win a ring and that seems like a perfect way to cap his career.
Jason McCourty, CB, Patriots
It’s no secret the world is sick of the Patriots on football’s grandest stage — and in general, it seems — that doesn’t mean there aren’t players on the New England roster who’ve earned our begrudging respect in their quest for a ring. McCourty, rescued from the Browns last summer, may be first and foremost among them.
After spending eight playoff-free years in Tennessee and then going winless in Cleveland, he’s finally getting his chance to shine. The 10-year veteran has stood watch while his identical twin Devin earned All-Pro honors and a pair of Super Bowl rings with the Patriots. Any championship parades he attended were strictly in a supporting role for his sibling.
McCourty barely made the team’s roster after a tumultuous preseason, but he’s had a resurgent season for a New England secondary that held opponents to an 86.6 passer rating in 2018 — the rough equivalent of crisis mode Andy Dalton. He rated out as Pro Football Focus’s 14th-rated cornerback, 43 spots higher than the man he was brought in to replace, Super Bowl 49 hero Malcolm Butler.
After nearly a decade of toiling away on teams that ranged from “mediocre” to “historically terrible,” he’s finally getting his chance to shine in the biggest game of the season. Sure, the rest of the Patriots may be hateable, but if you’re rooting against Jason McCourty you’ve probably also got an opinion on noise variances in the town of Whoville.
Todd Gurley, RB, Rams (and really, the rest of the Jeff Fisher era Rams)
Todd Gurley has developed into arguably the best running back in the league since Sean McVay was hired as the Rams head coach. Now it’s time for him to fully wash the stink of the Jeff Fisher era off of him with a Super Bowl.
Gurley had a tough 2016 season, averaging just 3.2 yards per carry in an offense that had minimal blocking and even less creativity. The Rams prehistoric offense was one of the worst in league history, making gameday extremely difficult for a talented player like Gurley.
Now, he’s free — along with several other Rams’ players that have gotten a chance to shine with a forward thinking head coach. Outside of Gurley we’ve seen Jared Goff, Rodger Saffold, Rob Havenstein, and Tyler Higbee develop into quality offensive players. That likely doesn’t happen without the change from Fisher to McVay.
It would feely awfully sweet for talented players that saw the lowest of the low with this organization get a championship ring. Todd Gurley is certainly one of those players.
John Fassel, special teams coordinator, Rams
Speaking of the Jeff Fisher stench, let’s give it up for John Fassel. Not only did Fassel have the most memeable reaction to Fisher’s firing:
pic.twitter.com/W2RlZ6T206
— CJ Fogler (@cjzero) June 29, 2017
But he even took over as interim coach in December 2016 — and then went 0-3. Here’s how good of a special teams coach “Bones” is: McVay still retained him, making him the only coach on the Rams left over from the Fisher ordeal.
Fassel’s unit is consistently one of the best in the NFL. They can even flawlessly execute gender reveals.
The Rams wouldn’t be in the Super Bowl without their reliable special teamers, either. Trailing 13-0 at the start of the second quarter, the Rams were lined up to punt again, another empty possession. But it was a fake! Punter Johnny Hekker completed a pass to Sam Shields, giving the Rams a first down and sparking a drive that ended in a field goal.
Later, Greg Zuerlein’s game-tying field goal sent the Rams to overtime against the Saints in the NFC Championship Game. Less than four minutes of game time later, his 57-yarder sent the Rams on to Atlanta.
Fassel has been around football his entire life, but like his father, he’s never won a Super Bowl. Jim Fassel was hired by the Giants as a quarterbacks coach right after they won Super Bowl 25. Several years later, Jim became the Giants head coach and even got them to a Super Bowl — with Kerry Collins! — during the 2000 season. They got crushed by the Ravens.
This is the closest John Fassel has gotten to a Super Bowl, but he’s earned it. Plus, he saved someone’s life once. Karma owes him one.
Obi Melifonwu, S, Patriots
2018 was the year Jon Gruden’s castoffs helped non-Raiders teams across the league. Khalil Mack was the driving force behind the Bears’ first NFC North title since 2010. Amari Cooper turned a 3-4 Cowboys team into the NFC East champions.
And those are just the guys he’s traded. C.J. Anderson got cut by Oakland in December and is now the leading rusher for the NFC champion Rams. Defensive tackle Treyvon Hester received his west coast walking papers before the start of the regular season, then came back to partially block Cody Parkey’s game-winning Wild Card field goal attempt to secure an upset playoff win for the Eagles.
Melifonwu can be the next link of this schadenfreude chain. The former second-round pick was released by Gruden after just five games with the Raiders, and while the raw, uber-athletic safety hasn’t done much with the Patriots, he may be needed in Super Bowl 53. The Rams boast one of the league’s top-five passing attacks, with two different wide receivers — Brandin Cooks and Robert Woods — who had more than 1,200 receiving yards this season.
The Patriots activated Melifonwu for last week’s AFC title game against the Chiefs — another high-impact passing offense. While he only had one tackle, he avoided major mistakes and did enough to justify a spot on the field in his first Super Bowl. And, if the past 21 weeks are any indication, he’ll do enough to make his former coach look stupid in the process.
If you can’t root for the Patriots, you can always root for Jon Gruden to look bad instead.
