i’m so happy that in at least one reality silco, vander and benzo get their happy ending.

i cannot even put into words the emotions i felt as soon as silco came on screen i had to pause and pace my room for three minutes before i could even continue. he literally😭😭got a happy ending😭😭😭 he looks so healthy too oh what i would give for an arcane ‘what if’ series

i mean we got a ‘what if’ vi died in jayce’s lab = no hextech, vander and silco rekindled bromance, no jinx, CANON TIMEBOMB, mylo and claggor are alive, and zaun and piltover are practically best friends

what if silco had taken in vi instead of powder/ powder gets taken by marcus instead of vi?? what if viktor mentored jinx?? what if neither silco or vander died?? WHAT IF THEY NEVER FOUGHT IN THE FIRST PLACE????

Arcane season 2 arc 3 live thoughts:

SPOILERS

• Damn the timebomb shippers are being fed tonight. Gotta admit I never really saw it but I think I get it now. They’re cute.

• Time travel and alternate dimensions is. Interesting? Not what I was expecting exactly but I don’t mind (well the time travel I kinda expected. I don’t know shit about lol but I’ve heard people say that’s part of ekko’s powers). It can be kinda an overdone trope but I think they did it really well.

• Alt powder is interesting. Find it hard to believe that she’s this.. stable? Even if she lived a much better life she still lost vi in a very traumatic accident that was TECHNICALLY her fault. And I think it’s been implied that she was predisposed to mental illness even as a child. That said she might still be having hallucinations but is just better at coping with them. It was sweet to see her happy though even if she was barely recognizable (which I guess is kinda the point)

• Also alt powder looks like Melanie king (as much as you can look like a character with no canon design, but you know what I mean)

• Was there? Something between mylo and claggor?? I swear they shared a look.

• Heimerdinger no! (Jk I don’t really care about him, he was fun I guess. And he can sing!?)

• The apocalyptic timeline was scary as hell. Jayce had it ROUGH. His actions are pretty understandable now. Still not quite out of the question mark zone.

• MEL!?!!!!

• Viktor is alive! Good for me. Probably terrible for everyone else.

• Oh. Oh Viktor. Noo….. oh he’s so problematic now.

Viktor is my second favorite (after jinx) and even though everyone in the show is morally gray (except maybe ekko) it still hurts to see a character I love basically become a villain. Like it’s a good story and arc, but still sad to see. Especially cause I wasn’t expecting it going into s2. I guess I can kinda comfort myself with the fact that it basically isn’t him anymore. It’s easier to accept that he’s dead and what we’re seeing is not him (which is what Jayce did) but at what point do we stop being ourselves?

• God that was so fucking good. Was kinda concerned at first, the battle was awesome but wasn’t really feeling the emotions. Jokes on me cause the emotions definitely hit me

literally quaking over the fact that in a few hours, arcane is over. like ive spent the past 2-3 years obsessing over the artwork that is this show.

im still really excited for future runeterra projects but truly i will miss arcane. this show got me out of the depths of despair when i finished atla/tlok

the characters, the animation, the dynamics. its all so gorgeous. is it perfect? no, but s2 has rocked me to my core. i just want a satisfying (AND HOPEFULLY HAPPY) ending for everyone, esp my pookies (cait, vi, ekko, jinx, and mel). they will forever be faves of mine.

it has one of my favorite sapphic (situation)ships in media of all time. THE YEARNING. THE PINING. THE TENSION. no one does it like them. 😭😭 korrasami (the og red and blue gays 🫡) crawled through the trenches so caitvi could fucking sprint into the sunset. i need to see caitlyn on her knees begging for vi’s forgiveness, and ik theyre argument from the trailer is gonna go crazyy. its wild how far weve come in terms of sapphic rep in shows. its so bittersweet just knowing i started watching this show for them and now theyre finally fucking canon. like canon canon. like kiss on the mouth canon type shit. thirteen year old me would be QUAKING. thanks to whoever made those compilations of those useless lesbians on youtube, ur a real one 🫶🫶.

can i just say that the show’s theme on love is so beautiful. like ik its the theme in a lot of shows but they way arcane presents it is just so AJSJSJSJD. cuz like with other shows it usually focuses on romantic love but in arcane its whether is platonic, familial, or romantic, love is what holds us together and breaks us apart.

why does caitlyn lose herself in a quest for revenge?? for love of her mother.

why does powder use her monkey bomb?? for love of her family.

why does ekko build the firelights?? for love of his people.

why does vi keep fighting?? for love.

and its not the whole cliche “power of love” type thing. its about how love is the guiding light and ruination of these characters.

but what ill really miss though is the fandom. i watched the show early 2022 but the only fandom interaction i had was through yt (boo strict parents :c) and none of my friends watch this show so its nice seeing other people fangirl over new content. sure, there may be a few people with insane takes on the characters and plot (myself included) but arcane tumblr has been one of my favorite parts of my chaotic time on the internet. all of the s2 speculations, corny ass memes, adorable fanfics, gorgeous fanart, and the collective agreement to not watch the s2 leaks. ill especially miss arcane newswatch, reminding us, for the better part of over 1000 days, that there is no news.

(also the league tt acc is so fucking funny dude whoever runs that should get a raise)

I've rebbogged some posts that express most of my thoughts already already but I thought I'll summarise it in a post myself.

Act 3 is dogwater actually imo. It's not the worst thing I've watched but for a show with such a strong season one and the 1st act of season 2 being really compelling, I am extremely disappointed. The only watchable/bearable episode to me was episode 7 and even that has it's own issues by itself.

Here are the things I didn't like:

Jinx deserved better. Jinx really did. I do not care about the theories whether or not Jinx is alive. You do not end a suicidal girl arc with a cheap sacrifice and vaguely hint at her being alive. Priorities people. (Imo it felt like they killed Jinx off to satisfy the criteria of one sister must be dead for the other to be happy as established in ep7)

If you thought Caitvi was rushed in act 2, it's WORSE here. There's no intimate charecter moments or apologies for how they treated each other. The most we get is a lesbian sex scene and while that was so cool I even had friends pointed it out on my discord status, people have already mentioned it before how forced it felt especially when Jinx just ran off to off herself. Sex is not the most important thing right now. Cait and Vi do somewhat care about Jinx too as evident by the previous dialogue.

Jayce and Vik have felt off charecter, I know that's the point but in this arc it's just especially bad. We don't even get Vik's League form as payoff for what they were trying to set up. (I'm a MelJayceVik shipper for context)

While ep7 is the favourite of mine and I enjoyed seeing Timebomb canon, the switch between Ekko and Hemi living their best lives and Jayce fighting for his life was also absolutely comedy gold, I just. Do not. See that alternate universe happening man. The Undercity DOES NOT gain independence through Vi's death, and it's cheap and gross and fake and honestly horrible even in fact that it does. The reason why Piltover and Zaun are so separated and horrible with each other is the prejudice, and it's even shown in the first few episodes that Vander and Grace were maintaining a very thin line of peace and once that broke, chaos wrecked havoc. Vi dying or not doesn't change that. Nothing is magically fixed because the other sister is dead. It took them YEARS to give Zaun independence for goodness sake, right before Jinx's blastered the entire council. Jayce arc made sense at least.

I do not understand why Viktor would just agree to work with Ambessa, their personalities are complete opposites. Vik chases for peace and freedom, Ambessa wants war every waking moment.

What's with the amount of killed champions man?? I did see a theory that they would be willing to kill off one but it was like. Almost every major playable charecter? And for what? Emotional value? Lazy writing? Ambessa literally just became a playable champion too to advertise season 2 and she DIES???

Honestly the only thing I liked about act 3 was Mel's arc, and the ending of Jayvik was sweet. CaitVi was nice, but it felt so unearned and undeserved. As Cait herself said, you can't erase the actions you've done.

The songs are still bangers at least.

I do not blame the people working on it, it's clear they were heavily rushed to try and pull off every story beat, it's just underwhelming that something with such a good season 1 with a 250 million budget ended up like this. They could've done so much better if season 2 was slightly longer, 15 instead of 10 episodes for example.

That's a weird reason not to have more LGBTQA+ representation. What's next, there shouldn't be a FtM trans character, because it would outshine May - a MtF trans character?

There shouldn't be a bisexual male character, because it would outshine Blake - a bisexual female character?

There shouldn't be a nonbinary human character, because it would outshine CC and Little/Somewhat - nonbinary animal characters?

There shouldn't be gay male characters, because it would outshine Ilia and Coco - canon lesbian characters? Besides theres already good enough gay characters, like Scarlet (remember him? He existed in V3 for 10 seconds) and Pilot Boi (he's dead and there's no mention of him being gay in the story).

Outside of Fairgame, I can't say there is any other popular MLM ship in the RWBY fandom and even if Fairgame is popular, Bumbleblee is still the more popular ship. WLW ships that aren't Bumblebee or Whiterose already don't get much spotlight and now there shouldn't be any canon MLM ship, because Bumbleblee might not be Miss Popular anymore?

LGBTQA+ representation shouldn't be a competition. We're a community, meant to support one another and that includes caring about other identities getting representation outside of our own.

You mean, MLM stories where the watchers didn't get queerbaited? Where the MLM couples got happy endings? Where MLM romance got writen with respect? Where MLM shippers didn't get accused for not letting "guys just be friends", forcing romance, fetishising gay people etc. ???

MLM stories where the romance are treated normal and writers putting work into the romance the same they would have done for straight F/M couple??

And just because there are shows with MLM romance in USA, doesn't mean any other place have MLM shows too.

If RWBY fans want to see WLW representation, why don't they just watch other shows?🙄 No need to force in WLW romance in this story, because what if the WLW ship takes away the spotlight from the F/M ships?🥺

I won't deny there isn't a problem of how MLM relationships gets treated vs how WLW relationships get treated by media and fandoms, but it shouldn't mean MLM have to stop existing. It doesn't mean wanting to see MLM couples on screen is bad and that you don't care about WLW couples. MLM romance still has to deal with homophobia. Just like WLW romance does.

But God forbit a person wants there to be a slight bit of MLM representation in a 10 years old show where most romance is F/M and the on-screen gay romance is mainly WLW (Ilia's crush on Blake, Saphron and Terra, Bumblebee)

Jinx/Powder and Ekko. Those two were supposed to be best friends back when they were kids and it's a pity that all we got from this was some glimpses in a music video, some jabs as teens/young adults and a flashback-esque scene. I think it would also make their fight scenes hit harder.

I just love their chemistry so much! Their whole dynamic is really great. It looks like they are so different and like it wouldn't/shouldn't work but still it does, because of their differences and because at their core they're both so similar.

I honestly don't know ifni can explain it any better. I just think they're really neat!

9. what my ideal endgame for them is.

Pretty much the same as yours. They end up being happily in a relationship, after solving the whole situation with Jinx and while working through their traumas.

12. about three of the scenes that make me have feelings and (if available) find the gifs that underline my points.

Scene 1. "You're hot, cupcake." I don't think this one needs an explanation.

Scene 2. Caitlyn caring for Vi after Sevika stabs her. This type of scenes is always a win for me in whatever kind of relationship and the tenderness Caitlyn show to Vi at this moment, while Vi is so adamant about refusing it, but ultimately accepts it... God I love it!

Caitlyn:

Caitlyn is to me one of the most genuine characters in Arcane, especially when you compare her to the rest of the people in Piltover. Her honesty and humility and kindness really set her apart from nearly everyone surrounding her, along with her willingness to do stuff on her own instead of having someone else do it for her. As she states herself, she is a misfit and I love her for that!

8. a headcanon I have about this character.

Since that shooting competition and her talk with Sheriff Grayson, Caitlyn started idolizing her. Grayson maybe even took her under her wing for a while (I'm saying maybe because we don't know exactly when that competition took place).

10. if I liked them immediately or if took a while before I warmed up to their character. Alternatively, if I disliked them immediately or if they lost my trust as their story progressed.

I kinda liked her from the beginning. I thought she was adorable as a kid (massive props to her voice actress). But she elevated to favorite status as the story was progressing. When we first met her as a child I thought she would be kind of like a side character and that we wouldn't be seeing much of her, and boy am I glad I was proven wrong!

13. how I'd do it if they had to be written out of the story.

From what I understand, this means how I would change the story if I had to remove Caitlyn.

Hmmm... pretty tough. Story-wise, Caitlyn is really important. She breaks Vi out of prison, she has connections to the council, thus being able to actually remind them that the people of the Undercity exists, because we know they wouldn't on their own...

In that case, I think a change I would make, would be Vi breaking out of Stillwater herself after hearing Silco's goon complain about this blue-haired girl with the bombs and realizes that's her sister. She kicks his ass like in canon, basically starting a riot, and into the chaos she fights her way out. She almost escapes, but she is stopped bybthe guy in the entrance. She puts up a fight again, but since she knows she can't fight anymore, she pretends to get beaten to death so they dump her body in the water. When they do, she swims to the other side and voila, Vi is back.

Now the rest for a good part goes as in canon. Vi returns to the lanes, she gets her jacket and her food, she goes to the brothel for info, confronts Sevika and when she gets stabbed, instead of Caitlyn, Ekko's the one who saves her. He saw her entering the Undercity after her escape and followed her. He brings her to his hideout, with the rest of the firelights, they tend to her wound and he fills her in on what happened during her absence. Vi of course doesn't really accept that her sister has changed and insists she can help her.

Meanwhile, like in canon Sevika tells Jinx about Vi being back, as a chance to get rid of her. Jinx goes out and the iconic flare scene takes place.

At the same time, after Ekko and some of the fireflies leave, Vi sneaks out and follows them, but then sees the smoke and goes up to find her sister.

The two reunite, but then Ekko and the others show up, a fight breaks out and Vi tries to get them all to stop, even yelling "Powder, that's Ekko!" And her responding "Yeah, no shit!" or something like that. Vi gets knocked down again, either by accident, by trying to get Jinx to stop shooting , which ends with her slamming her machine gun on her face (similarly like how she did with Caitlyn) and that makes her freeze for a moment like "Holy shit I hurt Vi!". The firelights take advantage of this, overpower her and take both her and Vi back in their hideout.

That's all I could think of so far. Come to think of it, I think it would be a good idea for a fanfic!

The number of people I've seen getting mad at the fact that Caitvi is a canon thing now is crazy. Like, even some of my queer friends are talking about how they hated them getting together, and it's like, idk, I'm just happy we didn't get another sapphic romance ending in tragedy. I'm glad we didn't get a bury your gays scenario.

Idk, representation like this makes me feel just a little bit more like no matter what happens, one day I might finally get to meet a woman I love who loves me back, and we too might get a chance to be domestic and soft and happy. This ending and other happy sapphic endings show us what the majority of the world doesn't want us to know: we (sapphics) can absolutely be happy, fulfilled, and loved in long-term relationships. Things like bigotry, comp-het, and sheer lack of numbers might make it harder, but it IS possible.

Endings like this show me that one day I, too, can say some cheesy ass line to the woman I love, and she too will snuggle herself deeper into me. I might try to avoid the prison sex tho, we can get just as hot on the bed lmao.

I'm still in disbelief that the end of Arcane was a scene reassuring us that Caitlyn and Vi are together? and happy? and GOING to continue being happy? And build a whole life together after all the things they've been through? And be stupidly domestic and soft? THAT was the actual ending of this show?! and the episode was named after Vi's final vow that she's sticking with Caitlyn for the rest of her life? I don't think we can ever understate what an absolute win this was for gay representation in media. Bless this masterpiece that spawned from a sweaty mmo man, who could have guessed this is where we'd end up

OK SO check out my ‘book of slays’ tag if you haven’t 👀👀👀👀 but also, I am suchhhhh a sucker for a solid annoyance to lovers/ reluctant partners to lovers (!!!!! Just them in canon actually !!!!!). I’m also a big friends to lovers/ roommates to lovers kinda person as well 😩. Idk it just hits different. I think exploiting the fun dynamic they had when they first met in season one that eventually morphs into the full on dedication to each other in season two is golden and so many fics do that well.

Post S1, there weren’t as many canon fics (it had been three years and there was only so much we could do lmao), but now that s2 is FULLY out, I gotta love my Happy Ending Lesbians. They’re married! Or they hate each other rn… They’re so domestic! Or they’re in that pain painful process of forgiving rn…….. They’re mothers!!!!! Or they still need a lot of time to adjust…………….
