YUUTA OKKOTSU. he's not much of a big birthday party type of person, but he'd do anything to make you happy. yuuta would go out of his way to ask people closest to you to help him arrange a birthday party — and with presents? he buys you one. only one. but it means a lot to him and he knows it will for you too.

he's such a cutie. he'd get everything in your favorite color, the cake, the confetti, the ribbons. whether it being the darkest color like black or the brightest colors like neon. he didn't care, as long as you're happy with it; nothing else really matters to him.

"yuuta, what's this?" you chuckled as you saw a [favorite color] balloon on the floor of your house.

he internally cursed realizing that the balloon wasn't even supposed to be there — and you did get a ghast of what was happening, but you just didn't have the heart to tell him about it and acted nonchalant.

the boy was so flustered he ended up grabbing the balloon and throwing it out of the front door before pulling you towards the living room where it was all a sudden rush of birthday power, as the lights flickered on, everyone you found dear was standing there with big smiles on their faces. congratulating your birth.

"happy birthday," yuuta squeezed your hand lightly, rubbing circles on the back of your hand.

"i love this. thank you," you tell him.

up to this day, he still doesn't know how you actually know about his surprise because of that balloon. but that doesn't really matter now, does it? at least you're happy — and yuuta is most certainly proud of himself for making you happy.

MEGUMI FUSHIGURO. he prefers to keep things simple and private. he buys a cake, a confetti bomb, and a present for you. megumi usually comes over to you and knocked on your door, and you'd think this was a normal hang out, date, chilling and all.

but when you open the door, he pops the confetti bomb. right outside of your door — certainly, it leaves quite of a mess and he cleans it up afterwards (he doesn't want you to help, because he thinks it's your special day and you shouldn't be cleaning something he decided to do). but his celebrations are repeated, that the third time it happened, you had a vacuum prepared so he wouldn't have to hand pick every piece of the confetti.

megumi treats you like you're reigning on a throne on your special day. you want to grab a plate for the cake? he will do it for you. a fork for the cake? he will do it for you. cutting the cake into smaller slices? he will do it for you. taking pictures of you during the duo party? he got it under control.

"gumi, thank you. this means a lot to me," you tell him, halfway finished on your third slice of cake with frosting decorating the corner of your lips.

megumi swiped his thumb over the leftover frosting and licked it off his finger, smiling lightly, "you're welcome."

he hates to admit it — but he thinks that maybe next year he'd take you by surprise to make a bigger party, and he hated that the first person he thought of was gojo to ask for help to.

GOJO SATORU. he goes all out. and by that, he creates two parties. one with a lot of people close to you, and one just for you and him. he goes one week before your party to plan everything, asking his students to help him in the mean time (making them do almost half of the work).

gojo picks the best cake, and presents? don't you even worry about it — he'll go out of his way to get you the most jaw dropping thing that you never expected to get. what can i say? he loves spoiling his partner, and he's got the money to do so.

the big party, he's going all out, getting you a three layered cake decorated in the most beautiful icing and toppings. he reaches out to people close to you one-by-one, and even makes the invitation pretty for them. and he gets pretty upset when someone close to you tells him they couldn't come — but hey, at the end of the day, it's your happiness that matters most to him, so he shrugs it off.

he makes sure everything goes well, nobody fighting or making unnecessary drama during the party. and makes sure nobody says a thing to you about it, he could be annoying with it though. but can you blame him? he plans a big party and if someone lets out a word on it to you by accident or with full intentions? everyone would be pretty upset, no?

but thankfully, that has never happened before.

and as for the mini party, he goes even further with it. reserving the nicest, fanciest restaurant in the city with the best view. he makes sure everything in the menu will be something that you like — and if any of them has something you don't, he makes sure to tell it to the chef (even if it comes with extra charges after).

buys you a big bouquet of flower and surprises you with it during your dinner date, gives you another luxurious gift that night and it was honestly just the best thing ever.

honestly though, you can't even try to stop him anymore — he'd still do it in the next year.

As the number two hero of Japan, the most sought out, the most popular & famous. Keigo’s birthday sure isn’t all that sought out. He’s busy with meetings & PR, while you thought you could spend the birthday eve with him. You’re so annoyed but at the same time helpless— what can you do really? It’s not like he is purposely doing this. Purposely being busy… he’s not.

Your eyes dart towards the clock. 12:00 am on the dot. You pout, rummaging through the bedsheets to find your phone. Fine, you can make do with a text message. Calling him while he’s in a meeting gets embarrassing for others moreso than Hawks. You see, he has no regard for other people. He would simper around, call you his baby, say he loves you… while other people would awkwardly try to stomach the #2 hero being whipped. You pout when you open his text tab, typing out a short.

The message isn’t seen yet, and you sulk harder, shoulders drooping as you sigh & lean against the bedsheets. Yep, you could much rather scroll through TikTok instead. At least, the Hawks fandom would be active & would care about his birthday. Something you have in commonality.

Your son was peacefully asleep in his room. He’s turning three soon, and you couldn’t really wait to see him grow. Thoughts of him already idolising Keigo ripple through your mind as you smile faintly. That’s when you’re invited into a lull slumber.

The next morning when you’re awake, you pout instantly. Fucked was your whole plan to spend his birthday eve together. Keigo had officially turned 27 today. A low rumble of his melodious voice echoed through the kitchen, mingled with the clattering of your son’s indulgent ‘helper’ whines as he prepares stuff with Dadda. Your heart warms, and you quickly rush.

“Good morning Kei, morning Ai.” You call him, and your son who’s wings puff up instantly upon seeing his mother. “Mama mornin!” He chirps, and Keigo grins back, “Oh good morning sunshine, you look gorgeous— haven’t told ya that everyday as if~” Keigo scoffed dramatically, leaning in and kissing you softly.

“Happy birthday…” you hum, running your hands through his hair, forgetting everything and why you were a little testy upon him. “Thank you babygirl.” He croons, nuzzling against your neck and giving a chaste kiss.

“M’ sorry I was so carried away by work y’know. Hate to be the hero sometimes.” He winked, ushering you towards your seat in the dining area. “Made yer favorite!” He beams, loitering through the culinary crockery.

“It’s your birthday, I’m the one who’s supposed to do the spoiling!” You audibly whine, making Aideen (your son), giggle up. “Mama spoilin’!!” He repeated innocently, and you nodded with a grin. “Yes baby, today’s Dadda’s birthday.” You hum, kissing his cheek. “C’mon, wish him a happy birthday.”

Your son glanced up at Keigo, who’s eyes softened instantly at the two individuals he would cut his heart up for. Ai tried, fumbling a soft, “Appy bufday Dadda” but the cheerfulness of the wish has Keigo’s eyes waver & gloss up. You pat Ai on the head, grinning. “Oh good boy, that was such a good birthday wish!”

The thing is, you and Keigo didn’t have to try the whole ‘gentle parenting’ thing ever. Luckily, you knew exactly what were the good parts you would like to pick up from your parents. Keigo knew exactly what he doesn’t want to be. Parenting came naturally. Though, there were times you found Hawks rather confused… but you were always there with him, holding a hand.

“Ai’s gonna start Nursery soon.” You hum, while cutting up the fruits and dipping them in maple syrup. “Yeah, I know Sweetie.” Keigo smiled, looking at you and scanning your face for any emotion remotely close to worry. “You know he’s going to do well, right?” He asks, hand reflectively brushing against yours.

“Yeah, but he’s the son of a very famous Hero.” You looked up, biting your lip a little out of nervousness. You haven’t been a celebrity kid. Hell you don’t even know how it would feel. These past four years with your man has only taught you never to go out without looking your best. You’ve been papped several times after all.

In the begining of the relationship, it was so troublesome and hard for you. Wherever you went with Hawks — the paparazzi followed like a flock. You & Keigo both have been successful in hiding Ai’s face from the media so long. Part of you wants to keep him safe so that no one could ever see what your son looks like, let alone trouble him.

“Don’t worry sweetheart, the school would be incredibly secure. I’d ask you to get him homeschooled but then I know we both don’t wanna deprave him off a normal life yeah?” Keigo coos, kissing your forehead. You nod, seemingly half-convinced still.

“Mmm, how about I send a silly little feather along?” You perk up at that idea, that was fantastic!

“That sounds okay. That way you’d know what’s up.” You smiled, observing his golden eyes dilate the moment a smile festered on your face. Gosh he was so visible with all his desperate and unconditional love towards you.

“Atta girl! Keep that smile on for me all day! Today’s my birthday and I get to have whatever I want.” Keigo grinned wide, and you nodded in approval.

“So I was thinkin’ maybe we could go out today… y’know like one of those times when I book a sneazy comfy place where there’s snow & there’s warm fireplace & there’s a lotta~” he leaned in, whispering the next part, “sex.”

You cackled, you knew Ai wouldn’t understand yet, but he’s of that age where he continually repeats words over & over. He repeated ‘Fuck’ over and over once Keigo slipped it out & had you reign hell fire upon the house. That was the first and the last time your husband did that mistake though. Ever so sharp & ever so careful (mostly).

“I’m in, want to spend all my time with you.” You confessed like a blushy highschooler, and Keigo grinned.

“Well a fuckin’ happy birthday to me then!”

Your friends had planned a surprise party for your birthday. As the night comes to an end, you get one last gift from Xavier.

When Enid had asked you to go out to Jericho, you didn't think much of it. You would go with her oftentimes, shopping at all the stores there were and ending the day at the Weathervane before going back to Nevermore. So, you weren't surprised when, after a long day of shopping, the two of you walked into the area where the Weathervane was located. What did surprise you is that she walked straight past the Weathervane, crossing the street.

"Enid? The Weathervane is right here!"

The girl turns around, a nervous smile on her mouth as she raises her eyebrows.

"Oh, I know! I just... I wanted to check out a new store! It's right here, it will be quick, I promise."

The store turned out to be your favorite restaurant.

"Surprise!" She squeals, clapping her hands as all of your friends come from around the corner. "Xavier and I invited everyone and we are having a birthday dinner!"

That is how you ended up sitting at a big table. Enid and Xavier had invited the entire group. Yoko, Ajax, Kent, Divina, Bianca, and Wednesday. Though some people were strategically placed at opposite ends of the table, it was still fun.

"Time for gifts! And I want to be the first one!"

Enid jumps up from her chair, reaching into her bag.

"Okay, so everyone got you a gift, but I have the best one!"

She hands you the small package. The box had your name on it and was closed by a thick ribbon. Enid ushers you to open it, she couldn't wait any longer.

The box contained a crocheted piece in your favorite colors.

"It's a snood!"

You had gotten a lot of gifts before the night ended. The snood, stationery, a book, and much, much more. Your phone was now also filled with group photos and silly pictures of your friends.

"If we all manage to sneak out," Yoko speaks up with a grin. "Then I can mix up some drinks in the Nightshade library."

That is not something you say no to. Everyone agrees to it; Yoko does mix some mean drinks.

Half an hour passes as everyone finishes their meals, leaning back on their chairs while sipping the last of the drinks they have. You look to your left, seeing Xavier nervously bouncing his leg up and down.

"You okay?" You whisper.

No one heard it anyway. Everyone was either talking or too full to hear anything. Xavier breathes in deeply before looking at you, a smile on his face before nodding. He was doing very well, actually. It took him and Enid a while to plan this party, but so far, everything had gone well. What makes him nervous is the gift that he hasn't given you yet.

"Yeah," he smiles. "No worries."

After the meal got paid for, everyone exited the restaurant. Xavier even took hold of some of your bags, insisting that you shouldn't carry them all yourself. His hand was on the small of your back as everyone stood outside. It is nothing that he hadn't done before, but it still makes your cheeks glow.

The air was a bit cold, so everyone decided to just walk back to Nevermore. It was only a twenty-minute walk, although you wouldn't be too surprised if it was going to take a bit longer.

"Xavier! Tell me I'm right!"

Kent lets out a groan, shaking his head.

"That's not true! Come on!"

Xavier looks at you with a grin as you just let out a laugh, looking at him as he walks a bit faster to try and find out what Kent and Ajax were bickering about.

It's not silent for long as Wednesday and Enid start walking on either side of you.

"Xavier has such a crush on you!"

Enid took hold of your arm, pointing at the long-haired boy way in front of you.

"It is actually the worst kind of torture to see," Wednesday replies. "A guillotine would be less bad to see."

"I don't know," you sigh. "I hope he does, but..."

"Come on, Y/N! He does!"

Everyone could see how head over heels the two of you were. Every time the group hung out, he would be right by your side. You would always make sure to never stray too far away from him.

The group arrived at Nevermore right on time, sneaking into their dorms. Yoko would have to get some mixed drinks from her room, and you really wanted to bring all your stuff to your dorm before continuing the party in the Nightshade library.

Xavier had walked with you as he was holding a lot of your stuff as well. The second the door closes, you let out a sigh, letting yourself fall onto your bed. You love your friends, but it could get quite tiring. Your social battery is just a bit drained.

You open your eyes when you feel a weight next to you. Xavier had sat down on your bed, looking down at you with a smile. The bags that he was carrying are neatly placed underneath your desk, together with all your other items.

"Tired?"

"A bit," you admit. "But I can't just skip out on a Yoko drink party. I might get some fresh air."

He lets out a chuckle, admiring you as you get off of your bed.

"Want to join me?"

You open your window, sitting on the windowsill as your legs dangle to the outside. There is a small balcony anyway, so you wouldn't consider it dangerous. Xavier takes a deep breath before sitting up straight and reaching into his backpack.

"I forgot to give you the second gift."

You look at him, squinting your eyes.

"So you are telling me that you bought me expensive art supplies, paid for my dinner, carried my things and that you have even more?"

"It's small, I promise."

He walks up to the window, climbing to the outside as he sits down on the floor of the balcony. The box he gives you is messily packaged with a ribbon and colorful wrapping paper. His hands are a bit shaky as he fiddles with the hem of his sweater.

"Tying ribbons isn't my strong suit," he lets out a laugh. "I just- I am not that good with words."

You open the small package and it reveals a painting. On it is a picture of you with Xavier, a memory from a while ago. The two of you had decided to have a picnic in front of his art shed. It had started raining, so you both had to hurry to get all the food and items inside the shed to keep it from getting wet. You were stuck in there all night and eventually fell asleep.

"Xavier! This is amazing!"

The picture animates itself, the sun disappearing and rain pouring down before the sun comes up again, paint-you and Xavier coming back out of the shed, returning to their original poses. When you turn the painting around, you see some text written on the back of the canvas.

'The moment I fell in love with you. Happy birthday, y/n. - your Xavier.'

You look up from the words to your friend, who is nervously watching your reaction. Your eyes are big and your eyebrows are furrowed, but what does it mean?

The longer you stay quiet, the more nervous Xavier gets. He can't quite tell if its a good or a bad silence.

"If you don't like it I can paint over it," he quickly says. "I can-"

"You like me?"

He stops talking, looking at you nervously. He blinks a few times before nodding.

"Yeah," he whispers.

You carefully place the painting next to you, your hands resting on Xavier's hands. A big smile is on your face as you look at him. There is not a lot of light outside as the sky had turned a dark blue, yet you still see the sparkles in Xavier's eyes.

"You really do?"

"One hundred percent," he pauses for a second. "Do you? Like... me>"

"Yeah," you reply with a big smile on your face. "One hundred percent."

He holds your hands tightly, almost as if you will slip away from him the second he lets go. His heart is beating even faster than it did before - something he didn't even think was possible. If it will go any faster than this, he might pass out.

"Can I," he breathes in shakily. "Can I kiss you?"

"Always."

And so he does.

His hands rest on your cheeks as he presses a soft kiss on your lips. You kiss for a few minutes before hearing shuffling beneath you. When you look down from the balcony, you see the entire group sneaking off to the library.

"Well," Xavier softly says, a sweet smile on his face. "Time to party?"

You nod and let out a laugh, grabbing his hand before pulling him inside, closing the window behind you, and walking to the door. You stick out your head, looking to see if no one is around before pulling Xavier with you.

Two soft snaps make the Poe statue move, your other hand still holding Xavier's. You can already hear everyone talking, the two of you soon joining them. Yoko hands you a drink before you can even reach the bottom of the stairs.

The entire night was filled with drinking, games, and laughing. You would often glance at Xavier, but most of the time, he was already looking at you.

Truly, the best birthday ever.

MY LATEST READ OKAY

um truth be told my love i have been in SUCH a slump lately,,,, its been tough out here.

i only read like 3 books very recently (last month or so)

I did read All The Little Raindrops by Mia Sheridan my QUEEN. its like a mystery thriller with a side of romance!!! Sheridan's books are ALWAYS a hit (she's very popular for her booktok famous Archer's Voice? And Travis !!) I've read like. most of her books at this point. I have never devoted myself to an author so much. She got me into the whole thriller genre and I LOVE her. so much. ITS SO GOOD AAAA. its not for the faint of heart and on more than once i find myself with the need to throw up with how HORRIFYING and messed up some of this stuff is (most of her thriller books are not for the faint of heart. lots of horrific stuff that is all too real and it makes it 10x more disturbing). Anyway i loved it i think i gave it a 4/5 stars it was so so good

2. i ALSO started Ana Huang's If Love series. I literally never shut up about Ana Huang like. EVER and i had been wanting to read this for a while and IM SO GLAD I GOT IT STARTED !!! Its a LOT less popular than hr Twisted and Kings of Sin series; she wrote it well before she got popular/published but its so good. its def not Twisted/Kings of Sin series but it makes it sooo clear how much she's grown in her writing, character development and general story telling!!! I read the first 2 books and UGHGUGHUFGHUFGHG yeah. new comfort series fr fr fr fr.

I also got digging through Lynn Painter's works (Love Wager, Mr Wrong Number, Better Than The Movies, etc) 10/10 her rom coms are sacred to me. this was a while ago though like. months ago lmao but i think abt her books always!!!

OH OH OMG I READ BIRTHDAY GIRL BY PENELOPE DOUGLAS !!!! SOME TIME AGO!!! yeah it changed my brain chemistry. i dont remember if i told you or not. but it changed my life. i think about it always.

edit: omg shut up i forgot i read some banger books months ago that i did not mention. i ate up Liz Tomforde's sports romance series (Windy City series) it was SO FREAKING GOOD. she had hockey romance, she had basketball romance she had BASEBALL ROMANCE. 10/10 amazing vibes

I ate through the latest of Lauren Asher's (Love Redesigned) IT WAS ALSO HELLA GOOD!! Ana Huang's King of Greed was also a vibe. not my fav but it was good. I ALSO delved into hockey romance SOOO DEEP. Fav series is probably Becka Mack's Playing For Keeps. One time Buck was laughing at Tim, because he was getting attacked by Pig while playfighting, and she accidentally bit Tim so hard he ended up having a scar on his neck (ofc Buck took Pig off Tim, but Tim was hurt so badly he couldn't talk right for a few week😭)

When Tim's car isn't working and he need to go some places, he would steal Buck's car and Buck finds out, gets really pissed at him for stealing his car

Director Yukiyo Teramoto (hereafter, Teramoto): My name is Teramoto, and I was the director of the animation "Kaitou Joker". It has already been two years since the broadcast ended. I look forward to working with you today.   Miho Shimogasa (Shimogasa): My name is Miho Shimogasa, and I was the character designer and supervising animator. I have been working on Joker-related projects until recently, so it doesn't seem like much time has passed.   Miki Aihara (Aihara): I am Aihara, a fan of "Kaitou Joker". I am ashamed to say that it was right around this time last year when I saw the work for the first time. I started watching "Countdown Television (Episode 33)" on Kids Station, in which a boy in a wheelchair (Kyotaro Hayami) confronts Joker, and I was shocked to see so many good-looking boys in this anime! I was shocked. From there, I was hooked and watched the entire season on Amazon. The kids in the show are really cool!

Teramoto: Thank you very much. I am glad to hear that.

--I had the impression that the staff of the anime "Kaitou Joker" was assembled with a great deal of love. Could you tell us how the decision to make the anime was made and how the staff came together?

Teramoto: I was invited by the producers and other people I worked with on "Doraemon the Movie" and other projects. To be honest, when I heard about the project, I was nervous about what would happen. But when I saw the characters drawn by Shimogasa-san, I thought, "They look cool, this could work, this animation is going to be great!" I was really impressed. I was won over by her drawings. I am very grateful to have been invited to such a happy place.

--How did you feel when you were first asked to work on it?

Shimogasa: I had never heard of "Kaitou Joker" at the time, so I immediately read the original story. The original work was really interesting, so I thought I could make this with confidence. The original design was unique and very good, so I took advantage of Hideyasu Takahashi's design for the original work and added my own taste for the anime. If you take off the back cover of the comic book cover, you will find a lot of stuff, and it is fun to find important information written on the edge of the comic panels♪

Teramoto: Animation is not a stop-motion picture, it has to move, so at first the people on the drawing site said there were too many lines, and it looked like a lot of work. However, as we continued, the people on the production side were attracted to the work and the number of fans increased, and they came to us and said, "Please let me draw!" Everyone drew with love.   Aihara: I really feel that when I watched the animation.   Teramoto: For our part, we were really happy to see the scene getting more and more exciting. Incidentally, there is also an animator who took part in Takahashi-san's autograph session because they liked it so much.

--How was Takahashi Sensei involved in the project?

Teramoto: Takahashi-san is a very open-minded person, and he allowed us to work freely. Of course, the original work is very interesting, but we tried to make the most of it by asking him, "Is it OK if we do this a little bit here? He would say, "That's totally OK." As a creator, I really appreciated it, and when we were allowed to do what we wanted to do, the excitement at the site increased. That is why everyone was so enthusiastic about making the show.

--I'm sure that the love put into the work was also felt by him, and that's why he approved of the project.

Teramoto: That's right. I have already put a lot of respect and love into this work!

--What was your impression of the work from the viewpoint of the anime viewer?

Aihara: In addition to the underlying goodness of the characters, I thought the animation had a great tempo and the scenes moved from one to the next in a great way.   Teramoto: Thank you very much.   Aihara: I was amazed that you were able to fit so much fun into 30 minutes.   Teramoto: Actually, there was a scene where we had to cut the ending because we couldn't fit it all in.   Aihara: Yes. If you cut out the end animation sequence, it's going to be a long extra animation of about 90 seconds, so it's hard work. Still, it's amazing that you didn't sacrifice the story, or more that you prioritized the quality of the work. Also, the last episode of season 4 is memorable. The characters and production were really cool, and the content was jam-packed. Teramoto-san was in charge of parts other than directing, right?   Teramoto: Yes, that's right. I was doing the storyboarding and directing, and I was thinking, "Oh, I can't make it in time, but I don't want to lose quality…" and I remember working really hard on the production.

Aihara: It was a very cool episode!

--What do you think is the reason for the large number of female fans?

Teramoto: After reading the original work, I wondered what kind of people were the fans, so I asked around. Then I found out that there were also other female fans, and I thought, "I see!" So I made it so that female fans would like this part of Joker, while at the same time keeping the goodness of the shonen manga in mind, so that everyone would be happy. I think the reason why the female fans liked it so much was because Shimogasa's drawings are so cute

--Shimogasa-san, do you have a favorite character in your mind?

Shimogasa: I love them all! I love them all - !!!!　I can't choose one.   Aihara: They're all cool, aren't they?   Shimogasa: What I enjoy drawing are the 'bad' expressions on each character's face. Oh, there was also this idea of Professor Clover having blond hair, which I wanted to draw.   Aihara: By the way, did you create the original anime character, President D (leader of the mysterious organization "Devil Fang"), from the beginning of the design process? I was really surprised to see that Dump, originally fat, appeared incredibly handsome.

Teramoto: Although I had asked for a handsome design, when I actually received the first rough sketch (of President D) from Shimogasa-san, I thought, "Wow! I didn't expect it to be this beautiful!" I was stunned.   Shimogasa: I drew 4 patterns of President D. I kept the lingering effects of the old dump in his eyes and clothes. One of them was chosen by the staff. Actually, I wanted to include the missing teeth of Dump, but that was too much, so I dropped it. However, I wanted to add the freckles that were on Dump, so I added them to the President D so that they were barely visible in important scenes.   Teramoto: You can see them when he is crying, can't you?   Shimogasa: Yes, when he was crying.   Aihara: Great rare information. I see.   Shimogasa: I also think the best part of Dump was the scene where he cries and says, "You're the only person I had to talk to!" …… I had dared to draw that crying face in President D and hoped the director would realize it, and she did just that.   Teramoto: Perfect.   Aihara: The crying scene was really cute!

--Do you have a favorite character, Aihara-san?

Aihara: Joker-san, I think. I like Phoenix (a phantom thief who manipulates flames. He is aiming at Hosshi, a mysterious creature, and comes after Joker), but I think Joker is really cool. The opening scene when he comes down from above and flips his cape is really cool. I tend to fast-forward through anime openings when I want to watch it in one sitting, but I couldn't do that with this one.  

Shimogasa: I couldn't either.

Aihara: That's right, the notices change every time, too. (In the opening, the contents of the notice that appeared in the middle of the show changed each time.)   Teramoto: That was fun, even for those who were involved in making it.   Aihara: It was really a very nice production. It included lines related to that particular episode. It was also cool to go to the chorus one more time.   Teramoto: There used to be an anime called "Aoki Ryusei SPT Layzner," and in the middle of the opening episode, there was a digest-like line for each episode. I liked that direction and thought it was interesting. I think "Layzner" was the inspiration for this piece.   Aihara: I didn't expect Layzner. So that's how it was.

-- So, which character is Director Teramoto's favorite?

Teramoto: I like Silver Heart (Joker's mentor. He appeared in the first episode as a commentator). It seemed to be difficult to come up with a story for the commentary section each time, but all the scenario writers enjoyed coming up with ideas, and the scenario meetings were very lively.  

Aihara: I was expecting Silver Heart's commentary, but instead, "What? This time we got Spade!" I was sometimes surprised.  

Teramoto: It was also interesting to have a different person in the room every once in a while.  

Aihara: It was really very detailed.  

Teramoto: Also, although he may not be popular as a character, I loved Mr. Kaneari (a wealthy man who repeatedly challenges Joker).   Aihara: Great! Around Mr. Kaneari, I was surprised that Kaneko, the beautiful secretary, was transformed into a super-tall commando killer (a powerful woman who participated in the "Bride Grand Prix" to determine Mr. Kaneari's wife).   Teramoto: Actually, Commando Satsuko was not in the original work when we started working on the anime. So we gave Kaneari a secretary named Kaneko, who was original to the anime. Then, that strong character (Commando Satsuko) suddenly appeared in the original work, and she married Kaneari. I was so surprised. I wondered what to do with Kaneko's position. So, out of sheer desperation, Commando Satsuko emerged from Kaneko.

Aihara: No, but it is wonderful.   Teramoto: Rather, Takahashi-sensei is wonderful for allowing that.

--Did Takahashi-sensei give you an immediate OK at that time as well?

Teramoto: He said, "That's interesting."   Aihara: That's amazing, isn't it?   Teramoto: He's too open-minded, isn't he?   Shimogasa: Conversely, there were times when Takahashi-sensei would reimport elements from the anime.   Teramoto: Yes, that's right. Like the design of the Sky Joker (*a large airship and one of Joker's vehicles).

Shimogasa: When I saw his work, I was surprised and said, "Oh my gosh!?"   Aihara: Was the original Sky Joker originally designed differently?   Teramoto: Yes, it was. But Mr. Takahashi liked the anime design very much, and during the serialization, the previous airship was seriously damaged, and the design was changed to the same as the anime one the following month.   Aihara: Sensei's really cool.   Teramoto: I was surprised when I was reading the original work. I was like, "It's the same as the anime!" (laughs).

--Then I would like to ask everyone, are there any times that are particularly memorable?

Teramoto: There are too many.   Aihara: All times were good, weren't they?   Teramoto: Yes, of course. The first episode, which set the initial direction, is of course memorable, though.   Shimogasa: When I saw the first episode I thought "this is good !!!!" I was impressed.   Teramoto: Thank you very much. I'm glad to hear it.   Aihara: In the events of the first anime (in the manga), I thought that Hachi (Joker's assistant) was a bit dry. But in the anime, he is "Joker, you are cool!" I felt the same way as Hachi in the anime. Also, as the story progresses, I like the fact that Hachi's cooking skills make Joker fall in love with him.

Teramoto: It's cute how Joker gradually becomes unable to be without Hachi. As for the other episodes, "Traveling Jokers (Episode 20)" was really cool.   Aihara: I understand. It is a story about Joker and Shadow (a phantom thief who looks just like Joker) who go back in time to the Edo period. The drawings were on par with those of a film version.   Teramoto: I was on the production side, but I was really impressed.   Shimogasa: I like "Traveling Jokers" too. The boiled flounder looks delicious.....   Teramoto: Also, "Idol Stage" (*Episode 22 "Clash! Idol Stage") was also interesting. Silly stories are fun.   Shimogasa: Then there was the final episode.   Teramoto: It was great to end the episode with everyone happy.   Aihara: It was really wonderful.

--What is the most memorable scene?

Aihara: There are many, but… the scene where Phoenix is captured and dressed in a tight black suit is really cool.   Shimogasa: That scene makes your heart pound, doesn't it?   Aihara: Yes, I don't know if I'm allowed to say this, but …… it's very erotic.

Shimogasa: When I saw the scenario or the storyboard, there was a scene where Phoenix was taking off (his mask and some part of his costume), and I was really happy when it was decided to draw that setting.   Teramoto: No, I really like that scene.   Shimogasa: I really like to apply it based on the basic settings. I can draw new costumes, but I also like to take off or remove something that is already on. I also really like jackets on the shoulders, or in the middle of putting it on, or just the shirt, or with the tie off, etc. I'm always waiting for a chance to draw that (laughs).   Teramoto: Joker as a character is not very revealing, so just taking off a little bit of his clothes is sexy, isn't it?   Aihara: Yes! It makes me a little excited.   Shimogasa: By the way, I also wanted to draw Spade (*Joker's rival) without his coat. …… I never had a chance.

--The voice cast was also outstanding, wasn't it?

Teramoto: I used to think that female voice actors were supposed to voice young boys, but when I heard Ayumu Murase's voice during the audition for the Joker role, I thought, "Oh, that's him!" I felt it was the right person. The staff around me also agreed that Murase would be a good choice, and the decision was made. Incidentally, Hiro Shimono, who plays the role of Spade, was chosen because he and Murase's voices would not be in the same tone when they interacted, and it would be easy to tell that he is Spade just by hearing his voice.   Aihara: Wow, I didn't realize that.   Teramoto: As for other roles… I had a very strong image of Hachi, and when I said, "I'd like to ask Yumiko Kobayashi," it was decided.   Aihara: So she was your choice.   Teramoto: I'm very grateful.   Aihara: It's a perfect fit.   Teramoto: Miyuki Sawashiro, who plays the role of Queen (a female phantom thief who trained as a phantom thief with Joker and his friends and is the granddaughter of Silver Heart), is a very busy person so her schedule did not match at first, but something happened to open up and she joined.  

Shimogasa: That's really great.

Teramoto: Misaki Hisano, who plays the role of Roko-chan (a phantom thief dog who likes Queen), actually came to audition for another character, but when I heard her voice, I thought, "Maybe this is Roko-chan." So I asked her to play the role of Roko with the lines from the original story. Then, the staff around me said, "Oh, that's Roko-chan," and we decided on her for the role.   Aihara: Wow. That's how the role was decided.

--If there were enough episodes to animate, is there a story you would like to work on?

Teramoto: Of course there are. There are still many interesting stories left. If I were given the opportunity, I would like to do it. In the first place, there was talk of a Blu-ray version coming out, but it never came out, so I thought there was no chance at all. I was about to give up on it but then it finally came out, and I'm really happy.   Aihara: And the number of pre-orders will increase the number of benefits!   Teramoto: The cover illustration of the box is also very cool. They put so many characters on the box cover.

--Lastly, please give us a message to your fans on the release of the upcoming Blu-ray and DVD.

Teramoto: It might be a bit of a stretch for me to say this, but I think it's an anime that makes people very happy when they watch it. We also felt happy when we were making it, and it is a work that all the creators worked on with great love. I am sure that the enjoyment will be conveyed to everyone who watches it. It is definitely an enjoyable and fun work, and I would be delighted if you could enjoy it as many times as you like.   Shimogasa: I think it is a very enjoyable work as an animation. Recently, there are many works that are too rigid, or do not allow the characters to be broken down, but I was able to freely draw a wide range of characters for Joker. It is a great feeling for me to be able to do such a work. I hope that the audience will enjoy the movement of the characters and the direction that only anime can provide.   Aihara: Oh, um! Does it end on me? Then, let me make a slightly creepy otaku-like comment ……. The animation is fluid, and as Shimogasa-san said, the characters move a lot, so I want people who have an oblique view of children's animation to watch it and think, "This is how children's animation is supposed to be done." I want people to enjoy the animation because "Kaitou Joker" is so amazing and different. Adults can really get into it and be hooked. That's why I want not only children but also their parents' generation to watch it. I will continue to watch it. I'll watch it a lot!   --Thank you very much!

20. Which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn't matter?

that's a good one! my first thought would be spaceboy because they can bond over their ex and travel the stars together, but i also get the feeling that they could clash horribly. two hyperemotional drama queens in love with the same girl,, to be honest, i feel like rococo would get along best with the unbread twins. all three of them have been locked away in isolation for years, the twins can provide rococo with food and he can fund their gambling addiction, they all have strange manners of speaking and like to talk about their sad backstories, etc. i feel like they'd have a very fun dynamic :))

25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

at first, i mainly just considered him another one-off side character and didn't pay much attention to his dialogue. his art was funny, his design was cool, but it wasn't until i wrote a one-shot focused around him that i started to recognise him a bit more as his own character. i wound up writing a 3000 word analysis on his backstory, got ridiculously attached, and now he's one of my biggest comfort characters sgfgjhf

23. Favorite picture of this character?

!!! hero my beloved! for his real world version, i'd have to go with the group hug. he shifts so quickly from being miserable and guilt-ridden to smiling and comforting aubrey; it really highlights just how accustomed he is to putting on a facade for others' sakes. besides, i don't think he's hugged anyone in years (one of his canonical likes listed is "mari's hugs", after all). the photo shows how much of an older brother figure he is not just to kel, but to sunny and aubrey too. he does look genuinely happy to be there with them, and it makes me smile to see him smile :))

as for headspace hero, as much as i adore this year's birthday art of him, i think i'd have to go with the photo of him making a flower crown. "it's taking him a while, but he's getting it!". the petals and leaves all over him are very cute, and he's clearly very focused. it's nice to see him enjoying himself! besides, basil always does like taking photos of people who are unaware the most :D
