= Cast Cards =
Slowly catching up on Cast cards by the fabulous and kind @melvisik! First up today is Antoine Douaihy, one of our executive producers! Now-- I was getting confused on the different level producers so I figured I'd mention the difference here in case you were too! Executive Producers: "The executive producer sits at the top of the production hierarchy as it is their job to source and secure financing for production. Without them, a film or show could never be made as they are the ones who kickstart the project." - Toronto Film School
-- Line Producer --
Another producer is up, Susan Parker! One of our Line Producers for the show! " Line producers are at the heart of a production, hiring the crew, allocating the money and making sure the filming is done safely, creatively, on budget and on time. They are typically the most senior member of the production team, second only to the producers. Working closely with heads of departments, they decide how the money gets spent, delivering the best possible product to the producer or series producer while offering the director and heads of department enough money to realise the vision." - ScreenSkills
-- Makeup Artists --
Last but not least for the night is Devan Weitzman, another of our fabulous make-up artists!

== Love Notes ==
Hey there lovelies! Gosh it's been a wild ride this fall (and spring for those of you on the opposite site of the world). I truly hope yall are getting some rest and re-cooperation time. There's been so much going on. This Love Note is very short-- because I'm overwhelmed at the moment. Please just remember that It's OK not to be OK, ya? Sit with your feelings sometimes and give them some love, sad feelings are part of you too, and the more we recognize them and give them love too, the more we heal. Take care Crew, this is a gentle reminder to be kind to yourself today <3

Under My Umbrella | TUA x Misfits crossover
Part 1 (?): The End is Near
Warning: Strong language, very mild sexual content, mention of death and drugs.
a/n: hope you all enjoy this Halloween special, maybe it'll become a series, maybe not, I haven't decided yet lol
(Masterlist)
"I know he's planning something special," Lydia ran around the room trying to catch Simon and hopefully get him to confess what he knew. "Just tell me!"
"He is, but I can't tell you!" he shouted with laughter, using his parkour skills to get away from her by hopping on the furniture.
"I need to know! I'm nearly 30, I can't deal with surprises anymore... I could die."
"No you couldn't, you'd just heal yourself."
"Tell me, you wanker! What is Nathan planning for my birthday?"
"It's not for another eight months, why do you wanna know so bad?"
"Because I got an email about renting a house in Greece and I need to know if it's for my birthday or if he's just cheating on me!"
"He's not cheating on you!"
"So it is for my birthday!"
Lydia finally reached Simon, but her laugther died slowly as she saw his eyes staring blankly at nowhere. That could only mean he was having a vision and by the look on his face, it wasn't a good one.
"Lyds!" he gasped. "We need to call the others, right now!"
"What happened, Si?" she cupped his face, checking for a fever.
"The world is gonna end," his voice trembled.
"What?"
"It's happening soon, we need to do something!"
"How? What causes it?"
"I don't know, I just saw it happening, it looked like it started in America."
"Why am I not surprised? If the world was gonna end, I'm pretty sure the Americans would have something to do with it," Lydia rolled her eyes. "Alright, you call Curtis and Nikki, I'll call Kelly and Nathan. Go get, Alisha and we'll meet at my place."
In about an hour the entire gang was reunited, sitting in a circle on the tiny little flat Lydia shared with Nathan. Despite being married for almost ten years and having more than enough money to buy a nicer house in a nicer area, they never wanted to leave Wertham.
"The world is ending, Simon saw it!" she blurted out.
"Peanut! I thought we agreed to prepare them first!" he scolded.
"The fuck you mean?" Kelly asked, no longer used to those near-death situations they were all dragged into.
"The entire world?" Alisha looked at her husband scared.
"Yeah..." he held her close, trying to comfort her. "But we're gonna stop it."
"How do you plan to do that?" Curtis groaned in frustration.
"Well, we all have superpowers, this has to count for somethin'," Nathan shrugged.
"Oh yeah, I'm sure understanding all languages is gonna be very useful when the planet is exploding," Nikki shook her head.
"You chose it, it's not our fault you picked a shit power."
"Guys, shut up!" Lydia threw her hands up. "We don't have time to fight, we don't know how long we have! Si says it starts in America, we need to go there."
"And what do we do once we get there?" Simon turned to her.
"At this point, it might be better t'get a shitton of drugs, have all the crazy sex we can, and die happy, don't you think, Lollipop?" Nathan frowned.
"Oh yeah? And you won't die, you'll be alone for the rest of your life floating through space without me?" Lydia cried. "We can't do this by ourselves, we need help... We need more superheroes."
"Oh, that's easy!" he mocked. "We just walk around Times Square askin' if anyone knows a superhero, we'll have an army of crackheads followin' us in no time."
"How about those... Those Umbrella Academy kids?" Simon asked. "I just saw them on the news the other day cause their dad died."
"Do you think they're gonna wanna help us when their dad just died?" Kelly grimaced.
"I don't know, but we have to try," Lydia looked down to hide how teary she was. "Even if Nathan and I survived, I can't live in a world without the rest of you.
——————————————————
"Is he ok, Linda? Are you sure?" Alisha asked on the phone. "Did he eat alright? Is he fussy?"
Alisha could use her power to see her son whenever she wanted, but she still had to lecture her mother-in-law about every little thing, she's been a lot more caring since she became a mother herself.
"Lisha, calm down, my mum has raised two perfectly fine kids," Simon chuckled. "You don't need to freak out, Darren is ok."
"She might have slightly miscalculated with Si, but I'm fine," Lydia joked.
He gave his sister a playful shove as the group stopped in front of the mansion they have been looking for.
"I think it's this one," Kelly checked her modified GPS. "What am I sayin'? I know it's this one."
"Really? How'd you know?" Nathan gestured towards the umbrellas on the glass doors.
"All right," Simon rang the doorbell and took a deep breath.
None of them knew what they were expecting, but it certainly wasn't the grumpy looking young boy in uniform holding a margarita. Five stared the weird bunch in front of him up and down, already mentally cursing for having to solve more problems.
"Klaus?" Five winced, looking at his brother's doppelgänger.
"Who?" Nathan asked.
"Forget it..."
"Who is it, Five?" a voice that sounded like thunder echoed around the hall as an incredibly tall and broad man joined them.
"I have no idea, Luther. What do you guys want?"
"Hello, um- We're looking for the Umbrella Academy," Simon mumbled, knowing he sounded ridiculous.
"Yeah, that's us," Luther nodded, still wary. "How can we help you?"
"Well, my friend here has some news that might be important, mate," Kelly said.
"And what could be so important that would bring you all from God knows where, England?" Five took a sip from his glass, a bored look on his face.
"The world is about to end!" Simon thought it would be best to throw the information out there before he lost the nerve.
"Oh, that? We know already. Is that all? Cause we're kinda busy here..." Luther looked back at the rest of his siblings, waiting in the living room.
"We're here because we can help," Alisha put the phone away. "We have superpowers too."
"Oh, do you? And what can you do?" Five scoffed.
"I can make force fields, hold my breath for a really long time, I also self heal. Kelly has super tech aptitude, Alisha can see the world through other people's eyes, Curtis can rewind time, Nikki can understand any language. My brother Simon can turn invisible, predict the future, and he's immune to other powers, and my husband Nathan can do reality warping and he's immortal." Lydia did a quick rundown.
Before Five could ask any more questions, Klaus, who heard part of the commotion, decided to see who was knocking. No one ever came to visit, at least not peacefully... Last time, they took him hostage, so it was understandable that he would be scared.
"Oh my God, you're Lyddie Young! I can't believe it!" Klaus screamed. "You're even more beautiful in person... What are you doing in the US? I thought you would stay in England until the opening night of The Minutes."
"Nathan? Can you fucking stop? Now is not the time..." she groaned.
"What did I do?" her husband asked.
"Don't play dumb, you just created a copy of yourself to wind me up," she huffed. "Interesting haircut choice, by the way, nice touch with the palm tattoos."
"I didn't do anythin' and this bloke isn't a copy of me! I'm much more handsome..."
"Excuse me?" Klaus raised his brows, overly offended. "You wish you looked like me. Who the fuck are you?"
"I'm Nathan Young, Lyddie's husband, y'twat!"
"How do you know this lady, Klaus?" Luther asked.
"She's really famous, I imagine you didn't get good music on the moon?" he reached for Lydia's hand. "Could I possibly get an autograph on my CD? I used to have a massive crush on you when I was younger. Well, I still do, but you get it..."
"Uh, sure," she giggled, her cheeks burning from the unexpected praise. "I'm flattered."
Nathan's nostrils flared and his face turned into a scowl, he's the only one supposed to make her blush like that. How could anyone think they looked alike? This guy was clearly on some serious drugs and he looked like a homeless emo raccoon with that smudged black eyeliner and those stupid laced-up trousers...
"Come in, make yourselves at home," Klaus made way between Luther and Five. "I'm sorry my brothers are so rude, do you guys want a drink?"
"So nice of you..." Nikki snickered.
"This place is proper posh," Kelly looked around the mansion.
"Klausie, where did you put the... Hey," Vicky was coming down the stairs and stopped when she noticed they had visitors. "Klaus, why are there two of you?"
"Can you guys stop saying that!" he pouted.
"Yeah, we're nothin' alike!" Nathan folded his arms.
"Klaus, why are you dressed like this?" Diego laughed seeing the other man's flannel and jeans. "What the fuck happened to your hair?"
"Jesus Christ!" Nathan pointed at the real Klaus.
Lydia just laughed at how bothered he was by the whole situation, she held him closer and ran her fingers through his hair.
"Don't worry, both of you are very handsome," she gently placed a kiss on his cheek.
"Oh, thank you," Klaus bit his lip. "I lived to see the day Lyddie Young would call me handsome... But it was inevitable, I know that."
"Here," Nathan snapped his fingers snarkily, making his goatee disappear. "Just makin' it easier for ya. It's really not that hard, the curly haired hunk with the sexy Irish lilt is Nathan, Klaus is the... Other one."
"Wow, Natty! You look great!" Lydia held onto his shoulders, leaning closer to his chest. "Ten years younger at least."
"Ew! Why would you wanna do that?" Vicky nearly gagged. "That's so gross."
"She likes it..." Nathan shrugged and Lydia hit him, knowing exactly what he was thinking about. "Ouch! Sorry, I mean, I like it."
"You can read minds too?" Kelly asked. "I used to be able to, but thank God I got rid of it. Nathan's brain is not a pleasant place to be in."
"Yeah, it kinda started recently, I hate it," Vicky shook her head. "Wait a second, you are-"
"Lyddie!" Allison arrived. "So nice to see you again!"
"Hey!" Lydia gave her a quick hug. "Yeah, haven't seen you since the... Since the Tony Awards."
"Congratulations on that, by the way," Klaus charmingly took her hand just to spite that Irish prick. "Your Lydia Deetz was breathtaking."
"Enough o'that!" Nathan took his wife's hand back, his eyes narrowed. "We have some important shit to discuss, don't we? End of the world and all that?"
"Oh, is that why you guys are here? Word got out fast..." Klaus handed Lyddie a drink and eyed Nathan with distaste before nearly shoving the glass to his chest.
"My brother had a vision, that's why we're here," she took a sip of the very carefully prepared cosmopolitan.
"You guys have powers? What's yours?" Klaus leaned over the counter as he flashed her his most charming smile.
"I have enhanced lung capacity."
"Which explains your flawless singing..."
"I can self heal."
"Which explains why you never canceled a performance in your life."
"And I can make force fields."
"Holy shit! Can I see it?"
He looked like a teenager talking to his idol, Vicky couldn't even be mad, she also loved Lyddie just as much. When they used to share an apartment back in their college days, they would always dance around to her music and they even went to her concert a couple of times.
"Sure," Lydia put her hand out, forming a small field that hovered above her palm.
"This is so cool!" Vicky gasped.
"Totally!" Klaus sighed.
"D'you have a boyfriend, mate?" Nathan cut in, trying desperately to get Klaus away from his wife.
"Not that it's any of your business, but I have a girlfriend."
"A girlfriend? Really? Didn't expect that..."
"You're being an arsehole," Lydia muttered, she usually liked when her husband was protective, but she wouldn't stand for homophobia. "I promise he's not always like this, I don't know what's wrong with him today."
"I know," Vicky laughed. "He's jealous. Don't worry, Nathan, your Lollipop is safe, my boyfriend is just a huge flirt, you'll get used to it."
"Nathan too," she chuckled. "He's just being a little extra right now."
"Wait a second, you are his girlfriend?" Nathan's brows furrowed with confusion.
"That's me," Vicky wrapped her arms around her boyfriend's slender body.
"Aren't you siblings?"
"Yeah, we're actually twins," Klaus mocked. "Can't you see the resemblance?"
"Shut up..." she scolded playfully. "We are all adopted, obviously, and this house has always been like a boarding school. I've never seen Klaus as my brother and I hope to God he never saw me as a sister."
"I was born in Germany, she was born in Brazil, so there's that."
"Nathan, honestly, who are you to criticize anyone? When we first met you were 20 and I was 12," Lydia taunted.
"Time travel?" Five asked, scaring everyone with the fact that he had been listening all along.
"Yeah, I did the good old going back in time for the one I love."
"Well, seems like we have a lot to talk about... Maybe you're not as useless as I thought."

hi! i was wondering where you got your copy of “life plus 99 years” by nathan leopold? i’ve been looking for a decent copy but they’re all being sold for way too much online. also, which of your books about leopold & loeb do you recommend the most? as of right now i just have two, but i’m trying to collect as many reliable sources as possible. i hope it’s okay i sent this. have a great day/night!
hey! i’m beyond delighted that you sent this, i’m happy to help.
officially throwing this under a read more bc it’s kinda long
i ordered my copy of life plus from abebooks.com. the cheapest copies on there are still about $50 but it was a lot more expensive everywhere else i looked.
i absolutely recommend the crime of the century by hal higdon. it was published in 1975 but it’s still the most thorough and accurate record of the crime, along with providing background information on the families and nathan’s post-prison life. my interest in the case aside, it’s probably the most engaging non-fiction book i’ve read tbh.
if you’re at all interested in the psychological aspect of the case, retrying leopold and loeb: a neuropsychological perspective is super interesting. it’s also unfortunately a book that requires a lot of digging to find a cheap copy but it’s neat to see how the boys might have been diagnosed today (or at least as of 2018). i appreciate that the authors stress that it’s nothing definitive since obviously they have only the transcripts and previous reports to examine.
i also feel obligated to say that i do not recommend for the thrill of it by simon baatz. it’s the most popular book about the case but baatz gets details wrong (e.g. richard’s birthday, and he wrote about a franks child that didn’t exist? lol), along with generally being misleading at times (especially when discussing richard’s murder) and other assorted inaccuracies. i really just have a bone to pick with baatz & i read it mostly to see just how bad it is and... the bar was low but it still missed it.
i hope this helps! if you have any more questions you can totally dm me too :)

These aren’t necessarily my personal favourite songs, though some are. And many of my all-time favourite songs are not on this list simply because I cannot figure out how they’d fit into the show/storyline. Cause we know that song lyrics on this show have meaning for the characters. And lyrics are part of the storyline, not separate.
ET: But I really want them to use (in some way, in some form) something from ABBA, Leonard Cohen, Queen, Hall & Oates, OMD, some power-voice female singer(s)... to name a few things... even if I have no idea how they’d incorporate those artists/songs... Like I want Mo to sing something Jessie J for example.
Most of the songs are for Z/M and the “love triangle” because this is the one & only storyline we know for sure is happening, hence easy to name “fitting” songs. I find it harder to suggest other songs without knowing the stoylines. !

Montgomery “Monty” Wilders → Nathan Parsons, Charles Melton, Dave Franco, and Gavin Leatherwood → Human Shifter
→ Basic Information
Age: 53
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Straight
Birthday: May 6th
Zodiac Sign: Taurus
Religion: Agnostic
→ His Personality Monty tries very hard, whether it is so he can try and get ahead in the world, or try and win his girlfriend’s hand. He will work tirelessly for years to get something he wants with little thought. When he is determined, Monty truly shines in his adaptability. He will talk to anyone, become any face, and take any risk if he thinks that will finally bring him to what he wants. However, Monty has a tendency to focus on only one idea at a time. He’s not a particularly skilled planner, and can be slow to pick up larger plans or ideas. Specifically the plan of Roland Blanchett to never let him win Ada’s hand. It took both Sirius and Ada spelling it out for him that he was sent on a never ending quest for it to finally click. Due to his lack of foresight he also tends to let things happen to him, and he’s generally slow to make the first attack. While not the brightest human shifter, Monty is steadfastly loyal. He searched for over 20 years to try and find a way to marry Adelaide, and never strayed once. Monty is looking for a place to put that loyalty, and a home and pack to give it to. He is incredibly anxious, worrying about possibly being found out, losing what he has built and what the future will bring.
→ His Personal Facts
Occupation: Police Officer
Scars: None
Tattoos: None
Two Likes: Tim Tams and Masterchef
Two Dislikes: Incense and “Breakfast“ Gravy
Two Fears: Roland finding him and Ada and Rattlesnakes
Two Hobbies: Solitaire and Sign Language
Three Positive Traits: Loyal, Determined, Adaptable
Three Negative Traits: Slow-Witted, Passive, Anxious
→ His Connections
Parent Names:
Eddie Wilders (Father): Eddie ditched Monty and his mother when he was 10. He walked into a crowd and purposely lost the pair forever. Monty hated not knowing if his father was in Blanchett’s pack, or any other pack he’s been around.
Jade Wilders (Mother): Jade dragged Monty around with her for the first 18 years of his life. He was taught how to feed on the homeless, druggies, and the elderly by his mother and he credits her with his innate will to survive.
Sibling Names:
None
Children Names:
None
Romantic Connections:
Adelaide Blanchett (Girlfriend): Monty would go to the moon and back if Ada wanted him to. He’s never met someone as wonderful as she is and knows that when everything is over, she is still all he’ll ever want.
Platonic Connections:
Sirius Cobic (Friend): Sirius has been a very life changing person to Monty. He never realized that what Roland was putting him through wasn’t right, or that he could possibly find a true place to relax and call home in Human Shifter society, until he met Sirius. He trusts him, more than he wants to admit, and wants to become a long term pack member.
Vincent Kane (Acquaintance): Vincent has been “in-charge” of Monty since he’s come to Chicago. He kept an eye out on him when he first arrived, and got him incorporated into human shifter society. He thinks he still sees him as someone to be managed, so they haven’t truly become friends yet.
Patch Cipriano (Friend): Patch was the first to invite him out socially when he got to Chicago. He was also really welcoming to Ada and organized a night out when she first joined as well.
Darren Shaw (Acquaintance): Darren has been in charge of a few scenes that Monty has worked as a beat cop. They haven’t spoken much outside of that, but they are friendly.
Churchill Darling (Ada’s friend): Church is more of Ada’s friend than his own, but he’s grateful that he has become close to her. A part of him worried that Ada would want to leave when she first got here, but the pack has made huge strides in helping her feel accepted.
Judson Cleirigh (Customer of his shop): Monty purchased some potions from Judson when he first got into Chicago to impress Roland. He still has them laying around in his room.
Simon Brodeur (Victim’s Family): Monty was one of the first people of the scene of Lilah Reddy. It was truly a disgusting crime scene, but Simon’s reaction to his death made a lasting impact on Monty. He has since made an effort to keep the nimble updated when he can on the case.
Douglas Gish (Boss): Douglas is his boss at the station, but has been a friend outside of work. He was the first person to invite Monty out for a drink and he felt immediately welcomed by him.
Winston Abioye (Coworker): Winston is the homicide detective attached to Lilah’s case. He has been very willing to allow Monty into the investigation, and his work and dedication to the case has inspired Monty to continue to rise in the ranks.
Greta Bow (Friend): Ada met Greta while working as a crime scene technician. They get along really well, and Monty finds the slightly awkward human shifter very endearing.
Hostile Connections:
Roland Blanchett (Hates): Roland made him trudge around the world and back again on a meaningless, unending scavenger hunt. He is slowly realizing that he will never have Roland’s approval and it’s up to him and Ada to create their own happiness away from Australia.
Imani Colt (Former customer of hers): Monty bought a wolf shifter pelt in New York from her. There is no way she could know the faces he uses primarily in Chicago, but he has made a habit of avoiding her and other Andersons to be on the safe side.
Angel Landyn (Dislikes): Angel repeatedly hit on Ada after she had told him to stop. He’s not sure why he’s doing it, whether it’s to get attention or a rise out of either of them. The minute he does it in front of Monty, he’ll see who he’s really playing with, that is unless Ada hits him first.
Pets:
None
→ History Monty thinks his life didn’t really begin until he met the Blanchett’s and their clan. His parents were travelers, scavengers who didn’t care much about their status in the Human Shifter world. He joined the Melbourne pack to get ahead in life and wound up with something else entirely. During his second week there Monty fell hard for Adelaide Blanchett. She was brilliant, kind, and would talk to anyone, including him. They clicked and Ada began teaching him other ways to create and build faces. They fell in love over the span of a few years, until Roland Blanchett found out about them.
He said Monty needed to prove his worth to the clan before he could be with Ada. Monty was to bring back something worthy of Adelaide’s hand in marriage, and something Roland would be impressed by. On his first trip he went to Sydney and brought back gold for him. Roland scoffed and asked if that was what he thought Ada was worth. Monty was at a loss and left again that night for Perth. He brought back suitcases of money after stealing a face and robbing a bank. Again he was laughed out of the room. This went on for 20 years. He’d come back with jewels, wine, food, and art from all across Europe, Asia and Africa. Nothing was ever enough for the pack. It took him two decades before he realized he needed something more, something that a human couldn't bring to him. So he set off to the US. He knew the biggest hubs were in New York and LA and that the most notable witches and warlock had ditched the old country centuries ago.
In New York, Monty bought a wolf shifter skin from Imani Colt. Ada’s dad had trouble with the local pack of wolf shifters and he knew Roland would find it a good decorative piece. Instead, he turned his nose up, saying anyone with a sharp knife could drop a dead animal at his feet. He went back to the US and traveled along the West coast, but what he found was nearly every city’s supernatural population shriveled up or gone. He was able to purchase a few centuries old books to give to Roland, but realized they wouldn't impress. Which is when he started towards Chicago. The Cleirigh family were well known for the best potions and charms that money could buy. He figured he’d work and try to purchase as many unique and useful potions over a year that he could and bring them back.
When Monty arrived in Chicago he was surprised by the heavily established pack. They were organized, social with many of the fellow species and were even trusted as the law enforcers. He had never seen such trust towards human shifters in all of his travels and experiences. He kept his head low, but Vincent approached him before the end of his first week. Monty kept up the facade he’d carefully crafted around the Blanchett pack, waiting for them to test him the way he was with his pack. But it never came. Monty began to loosen up around them, and eventually even admitted to Sirius why he was there. Chicago was good, the people in his pack were actually kind and Monty found the only thing missing was Adelaide.
Somehow fate, or Ada technically, agreed and she showed up in the Windy City a few months later. Monty thought he was in a dream the first month she was here, but when he was sure he wasn’t dreaming he began settling down. He applied to the Police Academy while Ada got a job working as a crime scene tech. They finally got what they had been working towards for over 20 years.
→ The Present Monty is worried about Roland coming to find Ada. Though he never stated where he was going next, he knows Roland’s reach and how angry he must be at Adelaide for leaving. He has been increasingly suspicious of new coming supernatural creatures, fearing they are spies. This has become challenging with his day job, and he is aware Vincent is keeping a close eye on him again. He really likes it in Chicago and is worried they’ll have to run sooner rather than later. He’s worried about bringing this to Sirius, as he knows it looks like he doesn’t trust him or the strength of the Chicago pack.
Outside of his own personal drama, Monty has gotten very dedicated to a case. Lilah Reddy’s murder has now but all faded into the background for most people, but it has preoccupied Monty’s mind since that very night. He’s hired hunters and paid for skins, but this is the first time he’s seeing the repercussions to it. Monty is hoping to help solve this in an effort to right his past wrongs. He has been trying to keep Lilah’s fiance in the know and updated on the little he and Winston have found. Monty is also considering using on of his burned faces to talk to Imani Colt again and see if she has any information on it.

“Tell me what’s wrong” (Nathan x Simon)
Prompt 56
Fandom: Misfits
“Tell me what’s wrong.”
Nathan almost fell on his ass at the sudden sound of Simon's low voice behind him. Community service had ended a while ago and he thought he’d been the only person left in the seemingly empty locker room.
“Jesus!” He exclaimed and turned around to properly face the other man, “You never sneak up on a guy like that, especially in a locker room.”
He shook his head like he was utterly disappointed in the lack of manners in today's youth, but Simon didn't avert his intense gaze or turn his serious look to match Nathans typical grin.
“Tell me what's wrong,” he repeated and Nathan looked him up and down, trying to figure out what the other man was getting at. Simon had changed out of his orange jumpsuit and was wearing one of his typical wrinkle-free blue shirts paired with a couple of jeans. His dark brown hair was neatly combed down but his usually pale face had a slight sunburn from working outside all day.
“You tell me Barry,” Nathan finally said, “You're the one stalking me in my own house!”
“This isn't your house,” Simon objected, just like Nathan knew he would. He’d always thought the fellow wannabe-criminal was too smart for his own good but honestly, he was terrible at picking up sarcasm, always taking things too literally.
Nathan shrugged and got back to trying to fit the jumpsuit into the locker. “I sleep, shit and jerk off here, ” he said. “That’s like the holy trinity, innit? Should count for something.”
Simon’s look grew confused but he quickly re-found his composure. “You've been acting weird today…” he said, then, after thinking about it for a while, hesitantly added, “weirder than usually.”
Simon thought he could hear Nathan taking a shaky breath before practically slamming the locker door shut, “No offense but you're not exactly the best judge on weirdness.” Nathan said and started walking out of the locker room and Simon almost had to run to keep up with his fast pace as he followed him.
“I can see when things are going on with you...” Simon tried.
Nathan scoffed in response, “It's that your new superpower?”
“I'm serious Nathan, you’ve been spacing out all day and-”
“You do talk some shit, you know that?” Nathan dismissed, still walking even though he wasn't sure where he was going anymore.
Simon narrowed his eyes, “You think no one cares, that we’re all too preoccupied with our own lives to see when something is wrong.”
His words came out harsher than he meant to and Nathan hesitated, slowing down his walking until he finally wasn't moving at all. He could still feel Simons presence beside him but for some reason he didn’t want to turn around and look at him. Not yet.
“But that’s not true,” Simon continued, his voice softer now, “I know when you're pretending to be okay so just… tell me what’s wrong.”
When Nathan didn't answer Simon took a step forward, placing himself right in front of the other boy. Nathan finally met his gaze and Simon could feel the air changing between them as his walls were slowly coming down.
“Fine, you got me,” Nathan said, breaking the eye contact to roll his eyes, “It was my birthday today and I just, I don't know, I guess I’m a huge baby who gets sad when mommy and daddy forget about me okay… You got your Dr. Phil moment, are you happy now?”
Nathan had his typical “nothing can get to me” expression, but the small quiver in his voice and the way his smile didn't quite reach his eyes told Simon a different story.
He took a step closer to the other boy, reaching out a hand, trying to tell Nathan, with actions rather than words this time, that he wasn't alone. Nathan let it all happen, but only for a brief moment. It was as if he was letting himself breath in the comfort of Simon just enough so that it would all be okay again. Feeling the warm air between them, leaning into the gentle touch of Simon’s hand against his shoulder. But it soon became too much and Nathan took a step back, letting out an awkward laugh.
“Don’t worry about it Barry,” he said.
~~~
Nathan was back to his usual self the next day, for the most part at least. Simon would occasionally feel Nathans green eyes looking his way while they were cleaning up outside the Community Center. But the curly haired boy would quickly stare down when he got caught, as if he’d just found the most interesting piece of trash right under his nose. Simon suspected that Nathan was a bit worried that he was going to mention the whole bithday-thing to the others. It hurt to think Nathan, someone he had grown to see as a part time friend, part time bully, thought that he would betray his trust like that. But on the other hand, Simon knew how scary it was to be vulnerable with someone. To tell show them their wounds with no guarantee that the other person would not use their weakness against them.
When the afternoon came around and the teens were finally able to get out and enjoy their freedom, but Simon lingered in the locker room. After Curtis casually exited with a quick “see ya” Nathan and Simon were alone again, just like the day before.
“So, um, how are you doing?” Simon said after a while, hoping he didn't sound as awkward as he felt.
Nathan couldn't help but let out a stifled chuckle, trying to give the other boy a look that was supposed to be mocking but ended up endearing.
“We should go out properly if you’re going to hang around me like this.” He said and Simon smiled to the ground, his ears going pink.
He reached into his locker, “I have something for you,” he said and pulled out a little box, neatly tied together with a blue ribbon.
Nathan theatrically covered his mouth with his hands, “You’re finally proposing!” He squealed and Simon couldn't help but blush even harder at that.
“Just open it,” he mumbled, practically pushing the present into Nathans grip.
“So eager,” Nathan teased, wiggling his eyebrows and slowly untangled the knot, opening the box. Inside was a single old-school lighter. Nathan picked it up, studying it without, for once, saying a word.
“I didn't want to encourage your smoking, but you can use it for other things too,” Simon mumbled while the other boy was tracing his finger against the cold metal, examining the engraved skeleton details on the sides. He opened the cap and, with one click, lit up a steady flame.
“I wasn't sure what to get you but when I saw it at the antique shop, it just seemed right with the skeletons and all.” Simon continued, “You know, because of the immortality.”
Nathan looked up at him, baffled, letting the flame die out and carefully closing the cap again, “You went to an antique shop,” he clarified, “to get me a gift?”
Simon was quiet for a while, his fingers nervously tapping against his own leg, “yes,” he admitted, his tone unsure even though that had in fact been exactly how he’d spent the previous afternoon.
Nathans brows furrowed and he was looking at Simon like he was suddenly the most intriguing mystery in the world. But after a moment Simon saw a big grin slowly forming at the corners of his lips and he gulped as Nathan reached for the collar of his shirt, holding the fabric tightly in his grip. Suddenly their lips were touching and in the shook and confusion, Simon barely managed to reciprocate the kiss, feeling overwhelmed by the way his skin was suddenly lit on fire and his heart danced against his ribcage. Soon however, he started moving along with the other boy's pace, exploring all the ways his mouth fit perfectly against Nathans. Their tongues moved smoothly against one another and the sensation sent shivers down his spine, making him gasp helplessly and opened his mouth further. His hands found their way to Nathan’s back and he let his fingers trace the outline of the other boy's sharp shoulder blades. When they eventually pulled apart Nathan was smiling and Simon could still feel the warmth of his mouth against his own.
“What was that for?” He asked, his voice barely audible, like he didn't want to break the fragility of the moment.
Nathan shrugged, “You can look at it as an early birthday present. I figured I gotta give you something back now.”
“You don't even know when my birthday is.” Simon blurted out before he could stop himself but Nathan just grinned at him, lazily playing with a strand of hair on his forehead.
“Would you tell me if I kissed you again?” He asked and Simon let out a small laugh, leaning in and making his next words vibrate against Nathan’s lips.
“Why don't you find out,” He whispered.
Simone trekked through the jungle, unsure of where she was headed, and not really wanting to step on anything gross. She hadn’t spoken to her mother since she moved out here, receiving only coordinates when she asked where Naya would be living now. After deciphering what that meant, she was finally able to find the wooded area; now her plan was to find her mother. “Mom?” Simone called, slowly walking around. “MOM! You in here?” “Simone!” Naya shouted from high in a tree. Simone jumped back, looking up to see her mother at the top of a tree, coconut in hand.
She slid down the tree and hugged her daughter. “It’s so great to see you sweetie,” said Naya. “Uh, yeah,” Simone mumbled. “You too. Mom, you’ve got a bunch of like dirt and leaves all over you.” “Yes, dear, I’m a PlantSim,” she laughed. “It happens.” Simone plucked a few large pieces of debris from her mother before wiping her hands and offering a weak smile.
“This is such a nice surprise,” Naya said as the two sat on some rocks near a campfire. “I would’ve called, but you don’t have a phone anymore,” Simone said. “Or any way to contact you.” “Yeah, living off the grid is pretty amazing,” Naya sighed, leaning back.
“Look, mom, I’m happy for you, I really am,” Simone began. “But, I mean, you at least need a phone. What if there’s an emergency? What if we need to contact you, or you’re in danger.” “What danger could I get in out here?” Naya asked. “Mom, you’re literally in the wilderness. Anything could happen.” “I’m a PlantSim, sweetie, I’m meant to be in nature.” “Yeah, but you don’t know what could happen, and you might need help,” Simone stressed.
“Like I said, I’m happy for you, I really am,” she continued. “But you can’t just cut us all off. Remember great uncle Elijah? He went all the way to Twikki Island to live off the grid, and Nathan had to go find him. He missed out on his last moments with his own son because he was so far away and no one could call him or tell him that uncle Ryan died.” “Are you guilt tripping me?” Naya asked, crossing her arms.
Simone stood up and walked over to her mother, hands on her hips. “Yes, mom, I am guilt tripping you,” she said fiercely. “I learned it from the best, too. You owe this to us. It’s fine that you want to live out here as a PlantSim, be one with nature, whatever you want. We want you to be happy, of course, but we also want you to be safe. And, damn it mom, you need a phone.”
“Fine,” Naya sighed. “Fine, you win. Damn, you really are good at guilt tripping.” “Didn’t I say I learned from the best?” said Simone. “I wasn’t that bad,” Naya muttered, laughing. “Oh trust me mom, you were,” Simone said.
Naya stood up and was about to reply to her daughter, feeling a twinge in her stomach as she spun around to a confetti of leaves, aging up into an elder. “Happy birthday, mom,” Simone said with a smile. “Birthday?” Naya said. “I didn’t even realize!” “You’re taking this off the grid stuff a little too seriously,” Simone laughed. “And, for what it’s worth, you look absolutely lovely.”
“Thanks, baby,” Naya said, hugging her daughter. The two smiled as they embraced for a few seconds. Afterwards, Simone dug out an extra phone from one of her dress pockets. “It’s a brick, which I thought you’d like,” she chuckled. “I already checked, it gets service out in the middle of nowhere. And I’ve put you on a plan with limited minutes and no texts, so this is only for emergency calls. Only me and aunt Nozomi have the number, and the rest of the family’s contacts are there, if you want to call them. If you want me to increase the minutes or anything, just let me know.” “You’re too good to me, baby,” Naya said, pulling her into another hug. “Like I said, happy birthday,” said Simone.
#sims 2#sims 2 legacy#Zarro legacy#generation 5#generation 6#Naya#Simone#i am so sorry for this trash photo resolution#i had to reset my game and i forgot that it reset photo options :(#only a few more of these will have the ugly grainy pic i promise!
Songs in the Key of Life
This is an entry I posted yesterday on Facebook but was quickly told that it was entirely too long for Facebook. However it was suggested that I write a blog instead so … here goes we’ll see how this goes… please read and enjoy …
"Songs in the Key of Life" is the eighteenth album by American recording artist Stevie Wonder, released on September 28, 1976, by Motown Records, through its division Tamla Records. It was the culmination of his "classic period" albums. An ambitious double LP that included a four-song bonus EP, the album became the best-selling and most critically acclaimed album of Wonder's career. In 2003, it was ranked number 57 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. In 2005, it was inducted into the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress, which deemed it "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."
By 1976, Stevie Wonder had become one of the most popular figures in R&B and pop music, not only in the U.S., but worldwide. Within a short space of time, the albums Talking Book, Innervisions and Fulfillingness' First Finale were all back-to-back top five successes, with the latter two winning Grammy Award for Album of the Year, in 1974 and 1975, respectively. By the end of 1975, Wonder became serious about quitting the music industry and emigrating to Ghana to work with handicapped children. He had expressed his anger with the way that the U.S. government was running the country. A farewell concert was being considered as the best way to bring down the curtain on his career. Wonder changed his decision, when he signed a new contract with Motown on August 5, 1975, thinking he was better off making the most of his career. At the time, rivals such as Arista and Epic were also interested in him. The contract was laid out as a seven-year, seven LP, $37 million deal ($172,277,675 in today's money) and gave him full artistic control, making this the largest deal made with a recording star up to that point. Almost at the beginning Wonder took a year off from the music market, with a project for a double album to be released in 1976. There was huge anticipation for the new album which was initially scheduled for release around October 1975. It was delayed on short notice when Wonder felt that further remixing was essential. According to Wonder, the marketing campaign at Motown decided to take advantage of the delay by producing "We're almost finished" T-shirts. Work on the new album continued into early 1976. A name was finally chosen for the album: Songs in the Key of Life. The title would represent the formula of a complex "key of life" and the proposals for indefinite success. The album was released on September 28, 1976, after a two-year wait as a double LP album with a four-track seven-inch EP titled A Something's Extra ("Saturn", "Ebony Eyes", "All Day Sucker" and "Easy Goin' Evening (My Mama's Call)") and a 24-page lyric and credit booklet. A total of 130 people worked on the album, but Wonder's preeminence during the album was evident. Among the people present during the sessions, there were legendary figures of R&B, soul and jazz music – Herbie Hancock played Fender Rhodes on "As", George Benson played electric guitar on "Another Star", and Minnie Riperton and Deniece Williams added backing vocals on "Ordinary Pain". Mike Sembello was a prominent personality throughout the album, playing guitar on several tracks and also co-writing "Saturn" with Wonder. Some of the most socially conscious songs of the album were actually written by Wonder with other people – these included "Village Ghetto Land" and "Black Man" (co-written with Gary Byrd) and "Have a Talk with God" (co-written by Calvin Hardaway). Nathan Watts, Wonder's newest bass player at the time, originally recorded a bass track for "Isn't She Lovely" that Wonder replaced with his own keyboard bass for the final version. The same guide-track method was employed for "Knocks Me Off My Feet". At the time of release, reporters and music critics, and everyone who had worked on the album, traveled to Long View Farm, a recording studio in Massachusetts for a press preview of the album. Everybody received autographed copies of the album and Wonder gave interviews. Critical reception was positive. The album was viewed as a guided tour through a wide range of musical styles and the life and feelings of the artist. It included recollections of childhood, of first love and lost love. It contained songs about faith and love among all peoples and songs about social justice for the poor and downtrodden. On February 19, 1977, Stevie was nominated for seven Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, an award that he had already won twice, in 1974 and 1975, for Innervisions and Fulfillingness’ First Finale. Since 1973, Stevie’s presence at the Grammy ceremonies had been consistent – he attended most of the ceremonies and also used to perform on stage. But in 1976, he did not attend as he was not nominated for any awards (as he had not released any new material during the past year). Paul Simon, who received the Grammy for Album of the Year in that occasion (for Still Crazy After All These Years) jokingly thanked Stevie “for not releasing an album” that year. A year after, Wonder was nominated for Songs in the Key of Life in that same category, and was widely favored by many critics to take the award. The other nominees were Breezin’ by George Benson, Chicago X by Chicago, Silk Degrees by Boz Scaggs, and the other favorite, Peter Frampton’s Frampton Comes Alive!, which was also a huge critical and commercial success. Wonder was again absent from the ceremony, as he had developed an interest in visiting Africa. In February he traveled to Nigeria for two weeks, primarily to explore his musical heritage, as he put it. A satellite hook-up was arranged so that Stevie could be awarded his Grammys from across the sea. Bette Midler announced the results during the ceremony, and the audience was only able to see Wonder at a phone smiling and giving thanks. The video signal was poor and the audio inaudible. Andy Williams went on to make a public blunder when he asked the blind-since-birth Wonder, “Stevie, can you see us?” In all, Wonder won four out of seven nominations at the Grammys: Album of the Year, Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Producer of the Year. Over time, the album became a standard, and it is considered Wonder's signature album. "Of all the albums," he told Q magazine (April 1995 issue), "Songs in the Key of Life I'm most happy about. Just the time, being alive then. To be a father and then… letting go and letting God give me the energy and strength I needed." Songs in the Key of Life is often cited as one of the greatest albums in popular music history. It was voted as the best album of the year in The Village Voice's annual Pazz & Jop critics poll; in 2001 the TV network VH1 named it the seventh greatest album of all time; in 2003, the album was ranked number 57 on Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. Many musicians have also remarked on the quality of the album and its influence on their own work. For example, Elton John said, in his notes for Wonder on the 2003 Rolling Stone's list of "The Immortals – The Greatest Artists of All Time" (in which Stevie Wonder was ranked number 15): "Let me put it this way: wherever I go in the world, I always take a copy of Songs in the Key of Life. For me, it's the best album ever made, and I'm always left in awe after I listen to it." In an interview with Ebony magazine, Michael Jackson called Songs in the Key of Life his favorite Stevie Wonder album. George Michael cited the album as his favorite of all time and with Mary J. Blige covered "As" for a 1999 hit single. Michael performed "Love's in Need of Love Today" on his Faith tour in 1988, and released it as a B-side to "Father Figure". He also performed "Village Ghetto Land" at the Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute in 1988. He later covered "Pastime Paradise" and "Knocks Me Off My Feet" in his 1991 Cover to Cover tour. R&B singers in particular have praised the album – Prince called it the best album ever recorded, Mariah Carey generally names the album as one of her favorites, and Whitney Houston also remarked on the influence of Songs in the Key of Life on her singing. (During the photoshoot for her Whitney: The Greatest Hits, as seen on its respective home video, the album was played throughout the photo sessions, at Houston’s request.) The album's importance has even been recognized by heavy metal musicians, with singer Phil Anselmo describing a live performance of Songs in the Key of Life as "a living, breathing miracle". The album’s tracks have provided numerous samples for rap and hip-hop artists; for example, "Pastime Paradise", which itself drew on the first eight notes and four chords of J.S. Bach's Prelude No. 2 in C minor, was reworked by Coolio as "Gangsta's Paradise". In 1995, smooth jazz artist Najee recorded a cover album titled Najee Plays Songs from the Key of Life, which is based entirely on Wonder's album. In 1999, Will Smith used "I Wish" as the base for his US number-one single "Wild Wild West". The song repeated the main melody of "I Wish" as a riff and some lyrics re-formed. In April 2008, the album was voted the "Top Album of All Time" by the Yahoo! Music Playlist Blog, using a formula that combined four parameters – "Album Staying Power Value + Sales Value + Critical Rating Value + Grammy Award Value". In December 2013, Wonder did a live concert performance of the entire Songs in the Key of Life album at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. The event was his 18th annual House Full of Toys Benefit Concert, and featured some of the original singers and musicians from the 1976 double-album as well as several from the contemporary scene. In November 2014, Stevie began performing the entire album in a series of concert dates in the U.S. and Canada. The start of the tour coincided with the 38th anniversary of the release of Songs in the Key of Life. Highly anticipated at the time, the album surpassed all commercial expectations. It debuted at number 1 on the Billboard Pop Albums Chart on October 8, 1976, becoming only the third album in history to achieve that feat and the first by an American artist (after British singer/composer Elton John's albums Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy and Rock of the Westies, both in 1975). In Canada, the album achieved the same feat, entering at number one on the RPM national albums chart on October 16. Songs in the Key of Life spent thirteen consecutive weeks at number one in the U.S., and 11 during 1976. It was the album with the most weeks at number one during the year. In those eleven weeks, Songs in the Key of Life managed to block four other albums from reaching the top – in order, Boz Scaggs’s Silk Degrees, Earth, Wind & Fire's Spirit, Led Zeppelin's soundtrack for The Song Remains the Same and Rod Stewart's A Night on the Town. On January 15, 1977, the album finally dropped to number two behind Eagles' Hotel California and the following week it fell to number four. On January 29 it returned to the top for a fourteenth and final week. The album then began its final fall. It spent a total of 35 weeks inside the top ten and 80 weeks on the Billboard albums chart. Songs in the Key of Life also saw longevity at number one on the Billboard R&B/Black Albums chart, spending 20 non-consecutive weeks there. In all, Songs in the Key of Life became the second best-selling album of 1977 in the U.S., only behind Fleetwood Mac's blockbuster Rumours, and was certified as a diamond album by the RIAA, for sales of 10 million units in the U.S. alone (each individual record or disc included with an album counts towards RIAA certifications).[33] It was the highest selling R&B/Soul album on the Billboard Year-End chart that same year.[34] Songs in the Key of Life was also the most successful Wonder project in terms of singles. The lead-off, the upbeat "I Wish" was released in November 1976, over a month after the album was released. On January 15, 1977, it reached number one on the Billboard R&B chart, where it spent five weeks at the top. Seven days after, it also reached the summit of the Billboard Hot 100, although it spent only one week at number one. The track became an international top 10 single, and also reached number five in the UK. "I Wish" became one of Wonder's standards and remained one of his most sampled songs. The follow-up, the jazzy "Sir Duke", surpassed the commercial success of "I Wish". It was released in March 1977 and also reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 (spending three weeks at the top starting on May 21) and the R&B chart (for one week, starting on May 28). It also reached number two in the UK, where it was kept off the top spot by the song "Free" by Deniece Williams, who had provided backing vocals on the album. As sales for the album began to decline during the second half of 1977, the two other singles from Songs in the Key of Life failed to achieve the commercial success of "I Wish" and "Sir Duke". "Another Star" was released in August and reached only number 32 on the Hot 100 (number 18 on the R&B chart, and number 29 in the UK) and "As" came out two months later, peaking at number 36 on both the Pop and R&B charts. Though not released as a single, "Isn't She Lovely" received wide airplay and became one of Wonder's most popular songs. It was soon released by David Parton as a single in 1977 and became a top 10 hit in the UK.
QISE Review - Beijing 2: Electric Boogaloo - Day 5
Let's start with Prime Time last night--Craig Melvin steps in for Torico, who as of that recording has just landed in the US for the Superb Owl. Why Melvin? Because he's the only NBC "name" left in Beijing. He's joined virtually by Maria Taylor back in Connecticut. They send us onto to (deep breath) Women's Individual Freestyle Sprint Cross-Country Skiing?
First off, thank you "refrigerator magnet event naming system". Second, shouldn't this be an afternoon event? The fact that this leads off Prime Time tells you that something unusual is about to happen, and it does--the US's Jessie Diggins gets the bronze, the first individual cross-country medal for the US. We then move to the Women's Halfpipe, which is of course all about Chloe Kim. We also get a taped bit from Torico, interviewing the "old man" of snowboarding, Shaun White.
Taylor sends us to Women's Slalom and Mikaela Shiffrin. It's a clutch run after she disqualified in the Giant Slalom--and she did it again. The camera continued to capture her, sitting dejected on the side of the slope, even through a commercial break. In a terrible decision, a VISA ad featuring Shiffrin aired in the next break. This may be THE QISE story for the rest of the games. Of course, NBC dumps the event to Peacock. In an attempt to save ratings for the night, they throw stuff at the wall:
An interview with Jessie Diggins
A rerun (yet again) of Nathan Chen's Skating Short routine
Steve Kornacki and his Magic Board going over Men's Skating stats
A scene of Italy winning Mixed Curling gold (?)
Wishing John Williams a happy birthday (the composer of TV's QISE theme, only a tiny part of his incredible career).
Off to Men's Big Air. There's a package about Colby Stevenson, who had a horrific car accident, only to come back to competition. Back to an interview with Shiffrin, who's clearly rattled by all this. Of course, the interviewer keeps pushing her, to the point of her crying (which was exactly what NBC wanted). Social media are comparing this--very negatively--to Simone Biles' travails a few months ago.
Late night kicks off with Men's Halfpipe and Shaun White. Feel free to turn down the volume and make up your own trick names--"Wow, a 1480 Scooby-Dooby-Doo, right into a 1080 Backside Walla Walla!" Finally, NBC returns to wrap up the Women's Slalom (but mostly to stew about Shiffrin).
I scrubbed through The Today Show, and learned that Lindsey Jacobellis won Snowboardcross--never saw that last night. Maybe this afternoon? Meanwhile, an IOC "legal issue" has held up the awarding of medals in the Team Figure Skating competition. No real details, other than that "athletes that have won medals" are involved.
In the afternoon coverage, Lowe sends us to Men's Luge Doubles. Two very confident men, wearing spandex, lay on top of each other, then slide down a crazy track. Then it's Nordic Combined--Ski Jumping and Cross Country. NBC blew through this fairly quickly. Then more Short Track, followed by a wildly over-produced teaser for Nathan Chen's free skate tonight, and what I think is a rerun Men's Big Air. Disgusting Big Air trick: "Nose Butter". Ewww!
Prime Time kicks off with Torico, now stateside. He covers the latest on the skating "legal issue"--reportedly, a non-Russian team skater tested positive for a banned substance before the competition. No other details--yet. We then move onto Snowboardcross and Jacobellis (finally), as the US gets the gold. This was followed by--a rerun of Shaun White's qualifying run? Seems like NBC wants to get the evening started with content they can control, unlike last night. We finally got some drama with Chloe Kim's Halfpipe run--will she win the gold?
More to come.
Dat Finale, OK?!
“I just wanna fast forward to the part of my life where everything’s OK.”
“Good luck, champ!”
Ok.
So first, clearly we needed another season. I liked that they kept the time jumps in line with their birthdays but still, it felt like a lot of moving parts that would have been better served with full development. So thanks, HBO! -__-
Why oh why couldn’t things work out with Nathan?!!?!? I blame Lawrence. I’m so pissed about it. I like both of Nathan and Lawrence, but I was definitely #TeamNathan in the end. But I guess the heart wants what it wants, raggedy as the heart can be lol.
I’m just so happy for Molly. Genuinely happy.
Speaking of Molly and Issa, their friendship mending also happened waaaaay too quick given how much time they took breaking it down. I wanted more from that too, but again, HBO.
Where’s my rebound Desmond and where are all these beautiful black men just waiting to be plucked? Lol. That’s how you know this is fiction.
I sometimes want to complain about bad wigs, but I can’t because people wear bad wigs ALL THE TIME in real life so I can’t really. But you have a TV show budget so QUIT IT WITH THE BAD WIGS!!!
These kids (Jah and Simone) seem old but I’m old myself and the passage of time is getting funkier in my mind every day so maybe I’m the crazy one. Idk.
I see you, Save The Last Dance (Sean Patrick Thomas sighting)! LOL
And finally, my biggest take away from a nice but kind disappointing series finale - Sometimes People Are Single. That’s it. Everything just was so pat in the end, it felt a bit hollow. I wanted Issa to be single, tbh. I think it would have been very powerful to show that although they may not have it all, they’re alright. I think that’s kind of where they wanted to land, that the problems keep coming and you just figure it out - great. But sometimes you figure it out without having everything that this society tells you that you’re supposed to have. You wanted the house but you bought a condo. You wanted your own business but you work for corporate. You wanted marriage but you find that you’re polyamorous and monogamy never worked for you. It’s ok. You have everything but this is the 10th round of IVF you’ve gone through and you can’t take it anymore. It’s OK. That’s truly everything is gonna be, OK?! to me. This just felt like everything is going to end up just the way you want. Your friends will always be there, you’ll get back with that ex you can’t stop thinking about, you’ll get married, you’ll start a great business, you’ll have it all. That’s fine and it does happen but sometimes it doesn’t and THAT IS OK. I wish we could have had that. But I will miss Insecure so, so much. All these other shows wanna be Insecure/Living Single/ Girlfriends so bad but they can’t be. This show is me and I’m still figuring it out. And I’m going to be OK, even if I don’t get it all, ok? Ok.
