you stare in disbelief at the pile of plushies in your hands, then at the empty ever-rotating crane game machine, then finally at the half-fish half-man who you get the pleasure of calling employer and boyfriend.

"...how?" you ask, still dumbfounded.

rafayel—who casually keeps a finger gun pose shamelessly in the middle of a public arcade—smirks even wider, "who do you think you are talking to?"

"someone who always misses the plushies," you answer quickly without a missing beat, before adding an afterthought, "usually. on every turn."

this response immediately makes him drop the finger gun away from his chin. changing it into a childish (and very adorable) hands on the hips pose. as animated as his gestures are, his face morphs into a pout, "hey. that's just me holding back so this place could still have a business."

"..." you doubt it, really.

"what does that face mean?" rafayel's eyebrows frown even further—which serves as enough warning that you probably should start giving him praises or you will have another spiel of how "you don't love him and even the jellyfishes that eat grass agrees with that". no one wants a repeat of that.

and also, you love him enough to think a preening smug rafayel is better than a pouting annoyed one.

"it means—" you poorly try to hide your smile, "—that i am very thankful that a really handsome guy gets me all of this. so much that i couldn't believe it."

predictably, the air around rafayel soon matches a peacock more than a fish. "hmph! good!" he says, in a manner that sounds like he will demand some spoiling the moment the two of you get home. or so you think, before he opens his mouth again and eyes the other machine a few steps behind you, "why don't you let this handsome guy get another round of plushies for you then?"

(five minutes and eight rounds later, the plushies in that other machine remain untouched.)

Your eyes crack open tiredly as a warm hand runs up and down your naked back lovingly. A small grin washes over your lips as you meet the eyes of your scarred, red-headed lover, and you can't help but groggily joke out,

“Take a picture, it'll last longer.”

Kid snickers, rolling his eyes as he leans down to lick a stripe up your cheek. You grimace and give a, “Eugh, Kid what the fuck?” as a chuckle reverberates in his chest. You lazily reach a hand out to slap against his chest when he suddenly bites down on your shoulder, clearly in a mood and you give a heavy sigh before crawling up his naked form and laying yourself across it.

“You're in a mood, ain’tcha?” You grumble, peppering a few kisses against his jawline as one of your hands runs through his messy locks. “You got me movin’ and everythin’, and I'm not even awake yet.”

Kid rumbles a sound of agreement in his chest, though he still doesn't say anything. His flesh hand runs up and down your back again as you curl into his arm a little more. After a few moments of silence, you lift your head up and ask, “What's going on?”

You're surprised when he looks off to the side sheepishly, an irritated grimace on his face as he finally gets out, “What would you want for your birthday, if you could have anything?”

You narrow your eyes at him, brows furrowed slightly as you ask, “Where's this coming from?” You idly remember Reck and UK asking you the same thing last night, but from how much they'd made you drink with them, you can barely remember what you'd answered with.

“I mean, I have everything I need-”

Kid cuts you off, “Nah, not something you need, something that you could have no matter the price, no matter how long it would take to get it, what would it be?”

He stares back down at you, your gaze switching from scarred eye to non, confusion rising in your chest as you asked, “Kid, where the fuck is this coming from? You're kinda worrying me.”

He narrows his own eyes at you in disbelief. “Worrying you? Why? I'm just fuckin’ curious, now fuckin’ tell me.” He digs his fingers into your side, pulling a surprised squawk from you and you retaliate by slapping his chest again, this time a little harder.

“I just-”

“Ah! Don't fuckin’ lie, just tell me what your heart says.”

You frown at him and bark out, “I already have everything I want, right fucking here!” You press your palms into his chest before sliding them up to his shoulders, giving him a slight shake as you continue, “This! You! Right here! This is what I want for my birthday!”

A wicked grin washed over his face as he practically purrs out, “My sweet Sugar, that's all I wanted to hear.” He pulls you into an almost demanding kiss as his hand slides down to your leg and pulls it up over his hips so your naked core is pressed against his erection.

You hum softly, grinding down on him slightly before you ask, “Why were you so adamant about hearing that?”

Kid nips at your bottom lip before murmuring genuinely, “UK asked you last night, and you said, “Kid is all I want. He's my present and it's a gift to wake up next to him every day.” I just… wanted to hear you say it to me.”

Your eyes watered slightly as a soft, “Aww…” rose from your lips only for Kid to roll his eyes with a huff and burning cheeks as he captured your lips again, murmuring against them, “You've got me, Shugs. You'll always have me, and you'll always be mine.”

Your heart feels like it could explode right then and there, and you can't help but stare up at him with loving eyes as you pull away enough to reply, “I love you, Eustass.”

Said redhead grins in response, nipping at your bottom lip before he whispers, “Love ya babe. Always.” He slides into you with a butterfly groan, your own moan echoing in harmony with his as he claims you once more. “Happy birthday, beautiful.”
