NO I FORGOT KURAPIKA'S BIRTHDAY WHAT

A/N: Happy birthday the love of my life. I know for a fact that he always prioritizes his work; I always wanted to write a fic on this.

You held his coat in your hands, looking at the clock repeatedly, why was he leaving at such an odd time?

"It's 3 in the morning, do you really have to leave now?" You asked while handing him the coat when he extended his hand.

"Have to," he said sleepily, eye bags under his eyes seemed to have been weighing him down.

"When will you be back?"

"Not sure..."

Kurapika walked out of the door, turning around to meet your eyes.

"Take care, call me when you can and come home safely," you smiled

"I will," he replied almost robotically.

If you knew that would be the last time in many months you would talk to him, properly, you would have stopped him; then and there, hugged him, peppered his face with kisses and told him at least a thousand times that you were here, waiting for him.

(6th January)

You: Hey, pika I hope I am not disturbing you, but I just wanted to check in on you.

You: Hope you have reached safely.

You pressed the enter button and stared and the ceiling fan, round and round; round and round. Sighing you got up to finish your work.

By the end of the day, you were tired, you checked your phone one last time to see if Kurapika had replied.

You smiled and kept the device on your bedside after plugging in the charger, at least he was alright, might have been too busy to reply.

(7th January)

You: Hey bubba, I have a big presentation today, I am so nervous, wish me luck!

You kept your phone on silent, determined that your efforts would pay off.

"What the actual hell was that?" your boss shouted, "do you even realize how important this presentation was? The other company looked so disappointed."

"Sir I tried my-"

"Well, clearly that wasn't enough!"

After getting that awful lecture from your boss and a long day of work. As soon as you arrived home, you collapsed onto your bed, curling into a foetal position.

Don't cry, Don't cry, Don't cry.

You: My presentation went terrible, I wish you were here right now, I miss you so much.

(8th January)

You: I feel better, hopefully, today will be good.

(9th January)

You: Hey, bubba sorry if I am being too clingy, but when are you coming back from work? I miss you >:(

And there was this hollow in the pit of your stomach, you knew Kurapika had a habit of ignoring messages, but it had been 3 days, he should have at least said something.

(10th January)

You: There is this new job offer for me, which pays much more that my current job. Preparing for the interview, very nervous!!!

The next few days you were busy preparing for the interview, so time passed like a stream

(14th January)

You: Sugarplum

You: Honey

You: The absolute love of my life

You: I got the job!

You: I feel so proud of myself! I bet if you were here you would be proud of me too!

You: You are proud of me, right?

By 20th January, you were feeling despair, scared as to why he wasn't replying to you messages and so you decided, against the rules of his job, to call him.

You: Kurapika, listen I am very scared and as your s/o I should at least know where you are!

You: Kurapika, I am so scared, just please send me one text that you are okay, please.

(24th January)

You: I will try contacting the Nostrade mansion today.

You arrived at the lavish Nostrade mansion, adjusting your clothes a bit you talked to one of the guards.

"Hello, actually I am the s/o of a person who works here, I have been unable to contact them for very long, I just need to talk to his co-workers or anyone at all who might know where he might be."

The guards looked at each other quizzically.

"What's the dark continent?" you asked

"A very far off place, all the voyages that have gone, there has been a mere survival rate of 0.04%.

(25th January)

You: You never told me you were a zodiac, you were going to the dark continent? what else are you hiding now?

You tried to engage yourself in work, drowning under piles and piles of paper, you were no better than him. You were having burnout, tired and deranged; your new job wasn't helping you reduce your stress and anxiety.

(1st February)

You: The month is over Kurapika, come home. I am waiting for you.

(5th February)

You: You probably got bored of me didn't you? Anyways, did you have lunch yet? I hope you are not forgetting your meals. Don't overwork yourself :)

You: I miss you, I feel so worthless right now. You would come home one day, right? (Message Deleted)

(11th February)

You: I feel as if I am the only one who is making an effort in this relationship.

You: Do you even love me anymore?

Your fear was contorting into insecurities, insecurities into attempts of holding onto anything that was left

(12th February)

You: I am sorry, that was childish, I should have thought before texting

You: You are probably out there fighting alone, and I am whining like a bitch.

You: I am sorry, you deserve someone more patient.

They say, grieving for the loss of someone who is still alive hurts the most. He didn't say goodbye properly so you hope, he might come back someday.

(16th February)

You: I went to the mall today, a salesgirl told me that lavender helps reduce anxiety. I got a few bottles and a diffuser, I will use them when you come back.

(20th February)

You: It's sad how I brought those for you and ended up using them for myself, you really know how to scare me, don't you?

(23rd February)

You: You won't leave me hanging like this forever right?

(1st March)

You: It's been a while since I messaged you, I have been overwhelmed with a lot of things these days.

You: I know this might come off as random, but have you ever thought of settling down?

You: A colleague asked me if I would want to settle down and the idea doesn't seem so bad, what hurt me was the fact that when I think of the future you always come into my imagination.

You: Even though we are living together, it's more like I am living at your place and you are rarely ever here. Even when we are in the same city you stay at a hotel.

You: It's pathetic how I still hope you will come back to me.

You: I imagine the future to be something sweet, full of sunshine. Us living under one roof, stable jobs. We fight over who will clean the dishes and who would make the food. We would hug and watch movies and end up falling asleep on the couch.

You: It sounds nice, doesn't it? but it seems so far from reality.

After that, you didn't message Kurapika for a while. Your vulnerabilities pouring out were enough to make you avoid him. Yet why do you still cry every night?

(20th March)

You: I am so tired

You: I wanted to leave, I had my bags packed

You: What the hell is wrong with me?

You: What am I holding onto now?

You: How much more do you want to torment me Kurapika? Don't you think it's enough already?

Kurapika looked around in his room, eyes, eyes , eyes everywhere.

They knew what he was doing. They knew what he was thinking. They bewitched him, telling him to avenge them.

His phone was in his hand. It had been a while ever since he had touched that device

He sighed scrolling down until he came to your contact.

He read through all your messages, eyes watering at the ones sent on the 1st and 20th.

Kurapika took a deep breath typing with shaking hands

You: Hey Y/N, it's been a while

He waited in anticipation on how you would scold him, bash him and tell him how is a worthless person who doesn't deserve love

Y/N: Is that you, Kurapika?

You: Yeah

Y/N: Come home, please

He whimpered at your text, unable to detect the tone.

You: Are you angry at me?

Y/N: Yes, very angry. I probably will never forgive you.

Oh yes, he was unlovable after all

Y/N: But I am so glad you are safe, do you have any idea how worried I was?

You: Can I call you?

*Ring Ring*

"Hello?" you spoke.

"Hey, love," he said groggily, waiting for your response. His heart dropped when he heard sobs from the other side.

'You are so so so mean, how could you do this to me? I thought you were going to leave me forever!"

"I am sorry-"

"Take your pathetic sorry away, I don't need them! Was it fun for you to see me begging for you to come back to you?"

"No no it's not like that, I was so busy, this place is terrible; there is not a single day that goes without missing you."

"Even then you couldn't find the time to text me?"

"I know, I hurt you, a lot, but trust me I am not in the right place right now; I am tired, hurt and depressed, but that is no excuse to hurt you."

"I am glad we have a mutual agreement on that."

"Yeah..." he laughed lightly.

"I missed hearing your voice so much," you said.

"What did I do in my past life to deserve someone like you," he snivelled.

"Come home now, it's been very long already. If you don't come back soon I will run away with Leorio."

"You will, wouldn't you angel?"

"It's your birthday soon, what do you want?"

"This time I would be the one who would give you a gift to redeem myself."

He looked at his ring finger, stretching it a bit.

"I better like it, or will disown you."

"Oh trust me, you will."
