Brother’s Day

Get in touch with your brother or brothers and spend some quality  time together, in-person or virtually. Plan a day out, have some beers,  or go to a movie.

Oh brother! Have you got a boy sibling that drives you a bit crazy,  but you love to bits anyway? Brother’s Day exists to celebrate that  weird bond!

The bond between siblings is naturally very strong. Growing up  together, getting into trouble, playing games together, the  competitiveness between you. Perhaps you have just one brother, perhaps  you have lots – today, it’s time to reflect on the ways in which your  sibling has enriched your life.

Brothers might not be as inclined as sisters when it comes down to  hugging, sending flowers, or even remember about celebrations  altogether. How many birthdays have you remembered at the last minute  and had to arrange an on-the-spot gift?

Of course, this does not mean that you value less the people around  you. However, you can save yourself from embarrassment by just adding a  quick tick to your calendar. This trick might even make you look amazing  when you remember about Brother’s Day before your forgetful siblings!

History of Brother’s Day

Brother’s Day celebrates the family – specifically, brothers.  Celebrated on the 24th of May, it’s a great day to let your brother know  how much he means to you.

The bond between brothers is so strong and such a significant part of  many people’s lives that it has inspired hundreds of books, films,  paintings, poetry, and plays.

How many famous brothers can you think of? What about the Brother’s  Grimm, famous for their stories? Or the Wright brothers, who pioneered  the first airplanes?

Liam and Noel Gallagher of Oasis are brothers. Barry, Robin, and  Maurice Gibb made up the Bee Gees. The Jackson 5 were all brothers – can  you name any more?

There’s no doubt that sometimes brothers don’t get the fame and  fortune that the above do – but this day is about making sure that your  brother knows that you still think the world of him, even if you don’t  always get along!

How to celebrate Brother’s Day

This is simple – it’s time to get in touch with your brother or brothers and spend some time with them!

Have a few brothers? Get together and go for a quick pint at the pub,  or go catch a film together. Just the one brother? Give him a call and  catch up, or pay each other a visit. Or maybe just irritate him a bit by  texting him lots of GIFs, whichever you feel like.

If it’s been a long time since you have seen your brother, perhaps  it’s time to get back in touch. This is the perfect day to do so. There  could be lots of things that you’ve missed!

Make sure you use the hashtag #brothersday when you talk about the  day on social media, and maybe you can share some of the stories you  have about your brother growing up just to embarrass him!

Ideas for Brother’s Day celebrations

Is your spouse tired of you asking whether they can sort out a gift  for your family? Here are some ideas to celebrate your male siblings in  grand style (and without having to resort to the brilliant ideas of your  spouse!)

Let’s be real: your brother might not appreciate a pink,  heart-shaped card as much as your younger sisters. Instead, a gift card  for his favorite videogames’ store might do the trick. Mind – do so at  your own peril! Your sister-in-law might not be too happy about him  spending his day playing Xbox. Yet, that will make you gain points!

Siblings’ trivia is always in the cards! If you have organized a  family gathering, spice it up with some questions about your youth! You  can find fun cheat sheets on the internet if you are not up for  spending hours coming up with the questionnaire. Involve the parents for  an even more entertaining evening!

Have you remembered about this event too late? Invite your  brother out for dinner – or a pint! We all live such busy lives that we  tend to forget to take a minute out of days to catch up with the people  close to us.

If your sibling has forgotten Brother’s Day (and it will  probably happen), a calendar or planner might be useful! It can help him  keep his meetings and appointments in check while not forgetting to  celebrate his brothers.

In the past years, you and your brothers might have moved into  separate locations and meet up only during main family gatherings.  However, this is the best occasion to strengthen that bond, find out how  your brother is doing, and remember past events!

In case neither you or he can spare an evening (hectic lives!), opt  for a phone call. Female siblings are better-known to love hours-long  chat, while brothers might be content with a bare “what’s up.” However,  secretly, they will appreciate a phone call and a chat!

If you are dealing with the most reserved of brothers, send him a  bottle of wine or whiskey. Nothing better than a glass to enjoy by  yourself while watching your favorite film after a hard day at work.  And, they will be thinking of you – guaranteed!

This day is an unmissable occasion to celebrate somebody you consider  a brother as well, even if you are not directly related. Moreover, if  your sibling is no longer with you, you could use this event to remember  the happy time you had spent together with your parents, friends, and  other siblings. It was another sunny summer day in Sweden, a place that Astrid Karlsson would always call home. Yet, she didn't enjoy it like she used to. The mild summer days were spent in doors, away from the sun's rays. Only venturing out for small periods at a time, especially if it was a uv of 10. No, she was not allergic to the sun by any means. But, she had to be careful with how much time she did spend outside. A drastic differance between her childhood and now, her 25th year on this earth. Her birthday this year, did not feel like her birthday with the sudden change in her life. Astrid Karlsson was diagnosed with Lupus the previous Sepetember so this was her tenth month living with this disease. She remembers waking up a butterfly shaped rash the following morning, after her 24th birthday. She immeditaly panicked, and went to the emergency room where they ran tests and did many rounds of blood work. They declared that they could not figure out what was wrong with her, so she trudged on for a few more months. She dealt with more rashes, incredible fatigure, muscle aches and stifness as well as random fevers that made her feel like she was dying. Nobody outside of her immediate family, and ofcourse work knew about her illness. She didn't want the whole world to find out, so she withrdrew from social media and only checked in with her closest friends and family about others in there lives.

Her mother this year, had decided to throw a party for her. Much to her dismay ofcourse, she did not want to celebrate a life that had turned on her. Astrid was still very much in the grief stage of anger.

The Seven Stages of Grief for Disease: Denial, Pleading/Barganing, Anger, Anxiety/Depression, Loss of Self and Confusion, Re evaulation of goals/life and finally, accpetance.

Astrid as you can tell, still had a long way to go. Yet, this grief process goes on for the rest of your life. It will never stop, it will never go away. So why would Astrid want to celebrate her birthday? Why could she not miss one party? She had the rest of her life to 'celebrate'. Her mother would not take no for an answer, and she debated to not even show up. Yet, that would hurt her mother. Her two sibilings, Olivia and Liam had fully supported her decisions. They would be by her side no matter what, they too didn't think a party would be a good idea. Her mother was in the stage of 'let's do everything in our power - even if it is ridiculious- to try to make her happy!!!' and her ideas usually failed. They thought there mother was crazy for trying to bring Astrid again and again out of her shell. But they also saw how much she had secluded to being alone. She eventually losed many friends this past year, some family memebers stopped checking in when nobody would answer for her. Why would they? They weren't living her life, and respected her wishes to stay silent.

Astrid Karlsson, was full of life. She was a pinnacle piece in so many lives growing up. She was a best friend to many, many kids her ages in the community. Everybody knew the green eyed, red headed girl who loved to run up and down the lake for hours. In and out of the water at all hours. Even until her 24th, she was still that redheaded spunk, and when she grew silent, everybody had wondered where she went. Especially the Nylanders. When Michael and Camilla stopped hearing about Astrid from her parents- they questioned them but they did not offer up much of an excuse. Though hurt, they gave them there privacy and never asked again. The boys Alex and Willaim, had been hurt the most. Their best friend from childhood had dropped off the face of the earth, even though they hadn't seen eachother in years- those childhood memories and friednships would never fade. And when the summers ticked by between the last time they saw one another, it was almost haunting how you could go from being best friends about to go off and play halfway across the world, and to one's who know not a single thing.

Yet, that was Astrids' choice. One that needed and was demanded to respected- per Camilla.

Astrid was nervous to say the least, the day of the party. Her mother said she invited a lot of family, neighbors and old friends from there childhood. Liam gripped her hand briefly as they walked towards the backyard where the party was taking place. A lot of cars were here, and that made her nervous. "What if they make fun of me?" Astrid asked stopping in her tracts, looking down at her arms that were filled with patches of a lupus rash. She touched her hair, thinking about how thin it now laid on her scalp. "I can't do this." she said with tears brimming her eyes. Liam sighed sadly, "No, you can. besides you have Liv and I and if somebody so much breathes funny- they are goners." He said walking to her and pulling her into his arms. She tried so hard to feel comfortable in her skin, not even bothering to put makeup on to cover her rashes that came and went suddenly and randomly. Olivia and her spent hours at a time, buying new clothes, makeup and skincare but Astrid simply didn't feel like trying anymore. If people were going to like her, they had to accept her for who she was. Her scars and all.

She sighed looping her arm within her older brothers and nodded to him, before they started on the path to the backyard. The backyard was buzzing alive with some soft abba playing in the background, Astrid's favorite band, ofcourse. Everybody in there close family seemed to be there plus some friends in the community and the one's from there childhood; the Nylanders. Yes, Michael and Camilla were still friends with Mark and Vera Karlsson but the kids it seemed have drifted apart from one another. Vera busied herself waiting for her youngest to finally make her apperance. She tried so hard to put on a brave face, but her husband knew better. She was putting on an act, to make herself feel better. They both didn't know if she was going to show up or not. Astrid had made that very clear, more than once. "Where are they?" Vera muttered as she stared at the space between the front yard and the back swirling around her white wine. "She will be here, I promise. We know she cannot refuse a good cupcake and some abba." Mark said coming up beside her and she sighed. "I just know, she will think it's too much." she commented on the string lights lining the backyard, the flowers that were woven in between the tables, chairs and the string lights. Even the gazebo had lights and flowers donning it as well. Astrid's favorite reading spot as a kid, no longer served any purpose now that she was never there. "She will love it, think of her 16th. She adored these decorations." Mark said wrapping an arm around his wife's back, placing a soft peck on her head. "That's a car door." he mused turning around and began to let them know, that they were there. Everybody grew quieter even though she knew they were all there, just not who.

"Im gonna kill mama, if embarrses me." Astrid mused, making Liam laugh out loud- alerting the guests that they were about to round the corner. "Oh, doesn't she know älskling (sweetheart)." he mused.

They rounded the corner, Astrid's nerves growing by the second. As soon as she saw everybody, she froze and put a hand over her mouth. She was surprised at how many people actually came, there had to have been atleast 50 people. "Grattis på födelsedagen" or "Happy birthday" were thrown at her causing Liam to laugh at his little sister's shyness. "Im gonna kill her." she mumbled, causing him to laugh even more. "Happy birthday, my love." There mama said coming over and giving her daughter a hug. She eyed the rashes as she went in, and when they parted her papa came in with a big hug to distract her. Astrid pulled apart was immeditely overwhelmed by the amount of aunts and uncles that were hounding her. She felt like she could not breathe, but managed to get through there questions and sentiments.

About 15 minutes later, she excused herself to get some water from the house. Tap water in her opinion was the best, even though gilded by some to be disgusting. She waved at people and hugged others as she made her way into the house. She smiled at the familiar kitchen, plucking a glass cup from the cupbard and filled it from the tap. She leaned against the sink and sighed, taking in the chill against her throat. Her chest was on fire, no literally. A hot flash had appeared,and it was only a matter of time until it went away. She fanned herself, cursing the birthday gods. Couldn't this had happened at another time? She grabbed a washcloth from the drawer and wet it from the sink and placed it on her open chest above her neckline. She moved from the kitchen to the den and sat down near the bookshelf that was less bright then the other spots.

She looked at her watch to see the time, and realized she had been in the house for twenty minutes trying to calm her body down. Yet, her system was on fire if she liked it or not. She laid down on the couch fully, shutting her eyes for mere minutes as her faitgue was kicking in again. After a few minutes, she heard footsteps coming towards her after the back door being shut. She sat up in panic, not realizing that the said footsteps were already in the same room as her. She stood up, and noticed who it was. Her breathe hitched in her throat, as she realized who it was.

The blonde blue eyed boy that had stolen her heart, many moons go. He stood there concerned by her stance and heavy breathing. He stepped forward, unsure of what to say or do. "Are you ok?" he questioned after a few seconds of an intense staring contest between the two. She shook her head, "No, but it doesn't matter." she responded walking past him. "Wait!" he said as soon as he noticed the rash on her arms but she wouldn't stop walking. "Sid!" he yelled out again, stopping her dead in her tracks. "What do you mean by that?" he questioned walking around her. He could see the nervous tears pooling at her eyes, and he sighed. "I don't want to talk about this right now." she said biting her lip in frustration. He stared at her for a second trying to find the words that he had wanted to say for the past year when she dropped off the side of the universe. "Why not?" he questioned, trying to read her face. "Because than my mom will have to face reality again, and we do not want this wonderful party to go to shame." she exclaimed before walking outside, but not without a fake smile dawning her olive skin.

Rebuilding the Gryles Timeline expertly crafted here because I’m always afraid of broken links and people going private and losing data.

Not only is there a ton of great evidence that these guys were dating such as Harry leaving Nick’s place in the morning wearing the same clothes as he’d worn the night before, I’ve also got a friend who works in the UK music industry and she did tell me these guys did date.  Nick is 100% out as gay so it really does all add up.

Gryles very obviously takes place during Haylor, debunking Harry as the 1989 muse, and if it’s not Harry you do have to wonder... who with green eyes and an obsession with Alice and Wonderland was heavily featured in Taylor’s life and then disappeared before 1989 - a breakup album about someone with green eyes who seems to relate to Alice in Wonderland drops?

07. February 14, 2012 - VALENTINE'S DAY!

08. February 18, 2012 - Stella McCartney Fashion show with Nick's mom.

09. February 21, 2012 - Brit Awards!

10. February 22, 2012 - They attend a party together. (Nick might have been DJing?)

11. February 23, 2012 - Harry spotted leaving Nick Grimshaw's flat in the same outfit he was wearing the night before.

The morning of February 23rd One Direction flies to the US for their tour and doesn't return to the UK until April 24th, 2012.

This trip is supposedly where Haylor 1.0 happens.  Harry supposedly meets Taylor at the KCA’s on March 31 and they fall for one another.  Taylor supposedly goes to NYC to be with Harry (even though she spends the whole time with Dianna) during the first week of April.  Then they supposedly enter into a long distance relationship that is broken up because Harry was seen out with another girl.

All the while the last thing Harry does before he leaves the UK is spend the night with Nick and then the first thing he does is goes back to him.

Yeah, I’m not buying Haylor 1.0 it seems pretty clear to me that Taylor wanted to pin I Knew You Were Trouble on Harry as a big pop anthem to support her transition to pop.  I think it’s even possible they faked Harry being spotted out with that girl or perhaps he and Nick had some kind of agreement.  I’m not saying Gryles was always exclusive (they may have been), but regardless I don’t see Red era Taylor being cool enough to share her boyfriend with a man.

Harry also calls into Nick's radio show on the 25th and confirms that the first thing he did upon returning on the 24th was meet up with Nick and Matt Fincham for drinks so one can theorize he probably crashed w/ Nick that night.

Harry goes to LA by himself on May 1st and returns to the UK on the 5th.

Early November One Direction goes to the US for Ellen, X Factor USA, and The Today Show. After The Today Show Harry flies to LA while the rest of One Direction goes back to London. Harry writes a song with the lead singer of Snow Patrol and rumors start flying about him hooking up with Taylor Swift.

Harry arrives back in London on November 16, 2012.

35. November 16, 2012 - Children in Need benefit concert

November 30th One Direction goes back to the U.S. for one off shows and MSG show. Haylor happens.

Harry returns to London on December 8th via Taylor's private jet and plays the Jingle Ball with the rest of One Direction. Harry and Taylor tour the UK together until December 15th when Taylor leaves for France.  Meanwhile Dianna heads out on a mystery 14 hour long flight on December 14th.

36. December 16, 2012 - Roast Dinner!

One Direction returns to the U.S. for the X Factor USA finale. Harry stays in the U.S. and goes on a ski vacation with Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, and Selena Gomez.

He returns to the UK on December 24th.

37. December 25, 2012 - Late night Christmas leftovers. (Yes they’re spending Christmas together, that’s boyfriend behavior!)

Harry and Nick both leave London on the 29th (Nick for Puerto Rico and Harry for NYC) Harry spends New Years with Taylor and Nick spends New Years with Pixie, Aimee, and the rest of the hipster crew. Harry and Taylor then fly to Gorda British Virgin Islands where they are supposed to vacation until the 7th. Taylor leaves on the 4th and Harry goes to Necker Island alone. Tabloids say Harry and Taylor have broken up.

One Direction fly to Ghana on the 12th or 13th and return on the 15th. On the 16th Harry calls into Grimmy’s show to talk about how Fincham DOES NOT LOOK LIKE A MEMBER OF ONE DIRECTION. Finchy asks Harry when he’s back and Harry says “in a couple of days”. (Small side note here that I don’t think Finchy and Harry are at the level of friends where they keep track of one another’s schedules so the only way Finchy could have known that Harry was heading back out of town to Japan that very day is if Nick told him.)

One Direction in Japan from January 16th to the 20th.

I'm not going to count this as a time they were together because I have no hard evidence, but the night of January 20th Harry was spotted in a grocery store buying wine and Annie Mac mentions on her show that Nick ditched coming over for dinner that evening to have a friend round to his house instead. We assume it was Harry, but w/o actual proof I don't want to say it concretely.

40. January 21, 2013 - Baking for Radio 1! (Tweet confirming the friend was Harry.)

Nick tells this story the morning of the 22nd about how he forgot he had to bake, so he got up from bed, went to the store for supplies, and forgot eggs. So, he texted his friend who was coming over to bring eggs and then Nick baked while his friend yelled at him to add more butter.

Do what you will with this one. Obviously there is not definite way to tell if this is Harry or not, but given the evidence of the amount of time they spend together that has been laid forth thus far, I feel comfortable saying those are indeed Harry's legs.

42. January 31, 2013 - Out for Harry's birthday at La Bodega Negra (the same place they celebrated Nick's birthday.)

Nick also went to Groucho Club afterward with Harry and mentioned on his show this morning that he hadn't slept at all. (He was still wearing the same outfit.)
