Hantober Day 3

The moment you fell in love with him and why:

"So close, no matter how far / Couldn't be much more from the heart

Rather than a single moment, falling in love with Jumin was a process (an ongoing process as the more things I know about him, the more I love him), but if there was a moment in which all of what is Jumin hits like a wave is this moment in which he opens himself to you.

To this moment, everything he did was wonderful, cute, admirable... and sometimes frustrating, let's be real here...

But once you get a glimpse of his struggle, of how bad his life is and how vulnerable he really feels, and yet that didn't took away his kindness...

There's this concept in psychoanalysis called "resignification" in which the knowledge that you had from the past gains a new signification from the data that you are acquiring in the present. This new data casts a light over the old knowledge changing completely it's meaning.

This moment, this moment was that new light for me.

Because it was in this moment when you realize how strong Jumin really is, the heavy weight that he carries on his broad shoulders.

All that pain that he refuses to pass on others.

He has it so hard, yet somehow he finds room on his heart to fight and not give up in the world and the people who hurted him so much, to not give up on himself, he finds room to trust you.

Jumin, from where do you get all this strength?

He is just... So precious...

Day One - Favourite CG or picture of Jumin

I love this picture so much! Like it’s just so pure and wholesome! I’m pretty sure its from the Christmas DLC if I remember correctly but either way it’s just perfect.

Day Two - Favourite in game moment

I wish I could chose Jumin’s route as a whole because I love him but sadly I can’t for this. I know that his phone calls are definitely one of my favourite parts of his route, especially this call. Its from day 10 at around midnight. The fact the MC call’s Jumin in the middle of the night is adorable but when they’re in bed sleeping together, my heart melted. It made me so happy!!

**Day Three **- The moment you fell in love with Jumin and why?

To be honest, when I first played the game, I was always interested in Jumin. I was annoyed that I waisted my free Hourglasses at the beginning because I could have unlocked his route earlier! I thought I loved Zen a lot when I first played the game, then when I moved onto Yoosung, I didn’t get that same feeling. When I finally got onto Jumin’s route, That feeling I had on Zen’s came back but it hit hard! Like it was elevated by 1000%! It probably was due to me being interested from the start but day 5 those feeling flooded through and oh boy, when you go to his penthouse... That was when I has head over heels! I wanted to help him and protect him as he was struggling so much and I just knew from that point he was my true end! I never had those feelings with any other character and I’m constantly replaying Jumin’s route because I just can’t let him go!

So for many years, I have been reading so many fanfics on tumblr about Jumin. One author in particular that I enjoyed reading was @little-writings​ who’s Matserpost I have reblogged on my blog! Hantober Day 7

Haunted Mansion: Favorite quirky interest from him

TBH I want to say his fascination with the occult, (because I'm an horror fan myself) but the thing I love the most is how down he is on trying everything???

Just mention some interest you like and he will take part in it wholeheartedly, it's also a sign of how much he trusts in the people close to him, and of HOW MUCH HE WANTS TO LIVE, TO TRULY LIVE

But in spirits of this day I will say: Jumin didn't just had a Goth phase, he has a Goth SOUL

Jumin is:

Cult, bookworm and intelligent

Prefers dark colors and is always impeccable dressed

It's a romantic, not only in the modern sense of the word, but as in The Romanticism movement which is about feeling emotions intensely and living your life according to it (this obviously after MC)

Has a preference for vintage things and methods over modern things.

Classic and jazz music, black and white movies, Coco Chanel..

And of course black magic, enchantments, vampires, telepathy and ghosts :)

Hantober Day 6

Favorite Headcanon

OK, my favorite headcanon is the Midnight Swimmer HC that I wrote and is my favorite because it was half-confirmed by Cheritz on Jumin's Birthday.

This is how I wrote it that time:

"Jumin loves to swim! (I mean have you seen how big his chest and shoulders are??) Mostly because he has an appeal for speed and there is nothing he can crash here (except for himself lol!) 

Is canon that he knows how to since he was 5 and that he has a swimming pool in his Penthouse and his preferred vacation destination is the beach. Before getting Elizabeth his way of de-streesd was to get a few laps until he ended up so tired that he would just plump on bed.

When he went to study abroad he was indecisive between Cambridge and Oxford but what made him decide for Oxford in the end was that long ass pool. Yet even if he probably was part of one of the sports team (to make connections for the future of CR) he didn't joined to the swimming team due to his discomfort of being seen almost naked, but at midnight when the pool was closed and everyone sleeping he would sneak in to swim.

Rumor has it that he gained a small crowd of fans who discovered the Midnight Swimmer and they used to watch him in secret and take his time and he broke a few Olympic records.

Rumors has it that the Midnight Swimmer became a myth that is whispered in the hallways and in the swimming team from generation to generation and that and his identity was never discovered. Other rumors said that in reality he was a ghost."

That was what I wrote back then and I got the swimming part right, but now I want to dunk in the college part of the headcanon because I think I discovered some clues that I got the college right as well, or at least the Country:

Remember this CG of the apartment? One time I went to look a little closer at the newspaper in the wall but my CG wasn't complete so it read "Bradford City" (which googled it gave the name of a Football Team)

Well recently I found the CG complete and...

It's actually a transport ticket for the City of Bradford in England, but you'll ask what has Jumin to do with this?

Well... everything if we remember that in Seven's route Jumin is ready to pay a ticket for MC to visit the Middle East, after barely knowing her and being clearly interested in Seven, not Jumin.

Is not too far fetched to think that, upon living there for college, Jumin took notice of that place and invited V and Rika to pass the summer in that place.

Moreover, the city has a college with careers specialized in photography (which interests V) and is the city with more museums and art galleries outside of London (which interests Rika).

If Cheritz wanted to put something that pointed out to Rika's interest for art, the more obvious decision would have been the Louvre in Paris, but instead they went this obscure reference.

So maybe Jumin tried to convince V to stay and study there with Rika? I would not be surprised...

Below is photo of Rye, the other place mentioned in the ticket, with a variety of art galleries and museums as well...

Another thing: the distance between Bradford and Oxford is like 5 hours in bus, and 3 on train. To Cambridge is a little more.

Close to Bradford is Leeds and Manchester, both with their respective colleges... Manchester is well ranked in their business careers so that's another option, but I'm sticking to my headcanon of Oxford anyway 😛, also because of their rowing competition which we know Jumin practices as well...

Hantober Day 1:

Favorite CG/Picture: The Pledge

I always remember this phrase from one of my favorite movies when I see this picture, the word "pledge" or "promise":

The first route I played was Jaehee's and, as we know, it isn't the best introduction to Jumin. Regardless, I didn't hated him there and by the end I was really intrigued by him, but that was all. Oh boy....

When I played Yoosung's next what I was starting to suspect about Jumin, about his kind nature, about his vulnerability, crystalized for me in this picture: he was so worried for the RFA that he couldn't sleep, he protected Jaehee showing he has always cared for her.

So this picture was for me like "The Promise" of what was to come in getting to know Jumin, and it was here where I started to fall in love with him💜

Favorite in game moment:

Since is almost impossible to choose from ALL the moments in which Juju is the best person, I went for one that feels very personal:

For years I've been asking my family to gift me a book for my birthday or Christmas, something cheap-second hand shopped-easy to find like "Alice in Wonderland"

Like 3 years ago I stopped asking because it's just not going to happen 🤷

So when Jumin went like "Can I read to you?" AND HE WAS SO SOFT, and the moment was so intimate..

Hantober Day 10

Choir Practice: Favorite song that reminds you of Jumin.

I made a playlist actually 👀

I went overboard and tried to include songs fitting of every significant moment of his life in chronological order, including the bad endings and even when he crashed Seven's car... ending with the Good Ending.

If you are going to listen to this I have to warn you, it has 2 songs that touch on the bad ending 2 and can be triggering for some people: Lullaby from The Cure which is more metaphorical and Prison Sex by Tool whose lyrics are very graphic. Listen at your own risk and take care.

But here I want to talk about the first song on the playlist that sorts of encapsulates Jumin's life and what meeting MC means to him.

The song I'm talking about is Lateralus, also from Tool, which has the particularity of relying heavily on the Fibonacci sequence both in the metric of the syllables and in the meaning of the song. This is a song about grow.

If you have never heard about the Fibonacci sequence, also known as The Golden Ratio, I recommend to you to watch all these videos on YouTube talking about it because is something super interesting!

Basically The Fibonacci sequence is the mathematic that you can find in the nature, which goes like this:

0+1 =

1+1= 2

2+1= 3

3+2= 5

5+3= 8

8+5= 13 and so on...

Theses numbers when put on a graphic look like this: a spiral

A grad student made a video about the Fibonacci in Lateralus for a project and there it's infinitely better explained of what can I do here, but sadly the video was taken down, what I could find is this same video from someone who reposted it.

I want to encourage you to watch it so you can understand better how the lyrics match with Jumin's life:

This is like a perfect description of Jumin's life growing up and raised like a businessman, with no place to emotions and creativity

Red and yellow could stand for V and Rika. They showed him another way for things to be: these are the colors more vibrant in the rainbow. Trough them Jumin got to experience friendship and love. And they "came came to him, reaching out to him" he didn't went looking out for them.

As below, so above and beyond, I imagine/ 13 - 5 =

Push the envelope/ 5 -2 =

Below, above, beyond: the lyrics are describing the dimensions of a box, that's the envelope to push made by "the lines of reason". Also note how the number of syllables were in crescendo, but now they are descending, why? What is stopping the spiral from growing? What is stopping Jumin? The answer is in the following chorus:

The next verse marks the moment the song changes, it stops counting syllables and with it both the song and the lyrics go in an endless crescendo...

A thing I haven't noticed, but I do now as I'm writing this is that the voice and the style of the singing also changes here. Up to this point was kinda robotic but here is really soft, in awe, you can feel the sincerity of the singer in his voice. If I had to parallel this moment in the song to one in Jumin's route it definitely would be when he tells you about his threads at 2 am. It's my favourite moment in the whole song, as I imagine Jumin saying those words:

(He complained about the noise, remember the standing alone in an empty field? The noise is no longer noise, is "sounds" , "words have a meaning once they reach you"

Translation of all of this? Why I put it at the beginning of the playlist?

Well...

Because of the heavy trauma he received in his early years, Jumin had to rely on rationality and logic to conduct his life (V called him "scientist" and Rika said she wanted for him to find the perfect balance between emotions and logic). Thus ignoring emotions but also his inner intuition, his gut feeling. (Update after the dlc: Now we know the big part his mother also played in this)

Because Jumin's trauma is in direct relation to his body, Jumin tried to distance as far as he could from it and treating it as a machine ("separating the body from the mind"). He mentions how loose clothes make him uncomfortable "because he needs a constant restraint all the time" (if corsets for men were an item you can bet Jumin would wear one)   which leads to his body speaking to him in the way of symptoms: this symptoms are the headaches, the numbness he says he feels in the dlc, the feeling of drowning, etc...

Basically, his body (wether by his emotions, gut feelings or directly through his headaches and mild-amnesia) is desperately trying to talk to him and Jumin is doing everything he can to not listen to it, because he isn't ready for it yet, because these are years and years of unspoken trauma trying to hit him  at once (this is why therapy is important! Guys!) .

So Jumin rationalizes things: he must be having headaches because he ate something bad, or the temperature in the room is below 2 grades, and V must be distant because he is still grieving, not because he is hiding something, not for what Yoosung is telling everyone. And Yoosung is also grieving, so that's why he's acting like this.

And Rika was V's fiance, so he couldn't have feelings for her

All of this changes when he meets MC: first she doesn't treat him as a robot like everybody else, but as person with feelings and with a right to feel and express those feelings, and second and (maybe) more importantly: she doesn't allow him to project his own emotions onto her (as he did with Elizabeth) thus Jumin doesn't have any other option that confront his own emotions, to recognize those feelings as his own… and this scares him to death, but he has to do it if he wants to be with her.

And this, that this battle is for her and for a future with her, is what gives him strength.

Now, onto the song again, Jumin has to listen to his body to do this, he has to decipher what is trying to tell him "Why im feeling like this?" "Why I acted this way". There's another song, also from Tool ("Forty Six & 2") that goes deeper in this process Jumin has to do "I want to know what I've been hiding in my shadow (...) Listen to my muscle memory"

It can't be only raw emotion because that's the bad ending 2 (or he stealing Seven's car), both mind and body had to work together (or to say it in the words of the song, the body can't be keep separated from the mind) for the well being of the person. And if it's in the natural design of things to tend to expansion and growth, why we'll be different? This is to live riding the spiral: self awareness.

And the best part of all of these? Once this big rock is out the way? 

Now he can allow himself to feel everything! Both the good and the bad, his love for MC, his friendship for the RFA, and by him now being better, he can also be a better, more honest friend to those he loves. And by being more honest, he can now help them to get on their feet again just as MC helped him, and accept help from them . Without fear.

And that's why I love this song and Jumin Han.

Note: So this didn't came out as I wanted :/ (that's why I couldn't post it like 1 month ago), but that's kinda of the point of the song I guess? 😅 Certain things can not be explained, only experienced and when you try to dissect them (overanalyzing) they lost something very important in the process. Even the same phenomenon doesn't guarantee the same experience for different individuals... But that's the good thing in the end 😅

Hantober Days 8, 16, 21, 30 and 31

In which I simp (part 2) 

Driver Kim: Favorite member of Jumin staff

I really wanted to post a fic that I'm writing but I couldn't finish it on time OTL 

My favorite member of the staff is no other than Driver Kim! Every thing that we found out of his relationship with Jumin is so wholesome! 

From the fact that he tells Jumin terrible puns to make him laugh, that he has been driving Jumin since he was a little kid, he taking pictures of Jumin with his guard down where he looks fucking adorable, his intervention on Christmas showing concern for the relationship between Jumin and the Chairman, Jumin returning the gesture and thinking in HIS family.

And Jumin finding excuses to always give him a new bonus (that's so cute! Jumin being like "You took that curve in a 90° angle, here's some more money") 

All these things show how deep their bond is and the level of trust between them.

I don't have any doubt that Driver Kim sees Jumin as a son, and honestly is the kind of father Jumin deserves.

Another thing: I don't know if anyone noticed this, but Juju tends to be specifically bad in tasks that are the speciality of people important to him: driving, photography, and even technology = Driver Kim, V and Jaehee

Is specially worth noticing for because is constantly pointed out that Jumin is pretty much perfect at everything he tries (see his stitching for example) 

I don't think that is a coincidence, more like Jumin unconsciously makes himself fail at these specific things so he gets an excuse to keep these people close to him.

Just another sign of how afraid he is of being left alone, and how difficult it is for him to reach to people without the excuse of work…

I went on a tangent there, but here is for Driver Kim living many many years! 🍷

Rowing: Is there any physical activity you would like to practice with Juju (or you rather see him working out 👀)

I would love to learn to swim from him because… reasons 👀

OK I do really need to learn to swim (and drive a car, and fire a gun and rcp) 

I didn't know it was considered a sport, but I like to go trekking as well (in the rare occasions where I can take vacations), I love the mountains and the woods and we know Jumin loves nature so double win.

I also think Jumin would be the perfect gym partner: he is so methodic, encouraging and (has a protractor for a head as Jaehee said 🤣). 

You won't need a personal trainer with Juju by your side! In the time you get to the scale he already calculated the amount of calories you burned in that last routine 🤣🤣

Overalls: How do you see Jumin as a father?

Jumin is going to be a great father! You can already see it in the way he interacts with the RFA, particularly Yoosung, Saeran and Seven, and Elizabeth as well of course! 

He knows his own childhood was fucked up so he isn't going to make the same mistakes his father did. On the contrary, he may take it to be a little overprotective, but with the right MC by his side who can calm his fears and let him see what he is doing he should be fine 😊

Handwritten Letters: A message you want to give to Jumin.

This is going to be extremely cliche, out of a cheesy movie but at this point I can't simp any higher:

I’m not sure if this is my true favorite moment of his in the game, but I picked one that always makes me smile!

I never fail to laugh at this! I love Jumin’s sense of humor wholeheartedly, and it’s so endearing and cute.

Hantober day 11

Strawberry Pancakes: Share your pancakes recipe! (Optional: with pictures :D)🥞🍓🍓🍓🥞

MY pancakes recipe is one that came with the cream cheese pot actually, but it's my favorite because it's very healthy:

Ingredients (for 16 pancakes):

1 table spoon of cream cheese (you can replace it with yogurt, oil or butter)

2 eggs

1 cup of all purpose flour (if your flour has any self-raising component as baking powder or soda, take the baking powder out of the recipe)

1 cup of oatmeal

2 cups of milk

2 teaspoons of baking powder

1 tablespoon of sugar (or more if you like)

And my additions:

1 tablespoon of honey (this is the key ingredient to make any pancakes recipe soft)

Homemade jam (I like homemade jam because I do it with little pieces of fruit, it can be replaced with any smashed/chopped fruit of your liking, like bananas, just be aware if the batter gets more liquid because of it you'll probably need more flour)

Replace 2 tablespoon of flour with 2 tablespoons of corn starch to make it more softer.

A pinch of baking soda and salt, very little.

Instructions:

First whisk the cream cheese to avoid having lumps, (add the fruit/jam if you are adding it now and keep whisking), add the sugar, honey and eggs and whisk until everything is well integrated (btw I use just one egg and saw no difference, I just added the equivalent in milk, do it at your own risk)

Add the milk, mix well.

Sieve the flour together with the baking powder, salt, etc(except for the oatmeal obviously) and incorporate it to the batter, then add the oatmeal and mix well everything.

If you think you are short in milk, add more, trust your gut, not all flours absorb the liquid in the same way.

Take the batter to the fridge for at least 20 minutes so every grain of flour and flake of oatmeal is properly hidrated.

You'll notice after that time that the batter is more thick now, give it a last whisk before making the pancakes.

Put some oil in your pan so the pancakes don't stick to it 😭 (oil, margarine... it always tastes better with butter!)

Set the stove to "crown fire" which you get when you are about to shut off the stove (it's not the minimum by default of the stove, you made it yourself), this is how it looks

The important thing is to leave a space of at least one finger between the frying pan and the fire, otherwise it could burn 😭 (don't put your finger on the fire please)

9. Make the pancakes! Put a small portion of the batter on the pan and when you see small bubbles appearing on the top, and that the batter doesn't seem to go anywhere when you try to flip them over, that's the moment to flip them. It's faster if you put a lid over it.

10. Be patient. It takes some time to be ready (otherwise it would burn... What a life lesson...)

10. Remember to renew the butter every time so the next pancake doesn't stick to it 😭

This is how they look, if gravity and a well calibrated kitchen are on your side it will look better!

But for Jujus Birthday I wanted to do strawberry pancakes, so I went with the same recipe, but half the ingredients, no oatmeal and replaced the cream cheese for butter.

Since the (3) strawberries have a lot of juice I had that problem of the batter being too liquid, which resulted in thinner pancakes but still they came out soft and delicious! 😋🥞

Let me give Jumin the simple life that he coveted for so long, that stability and safe ground that he lacks in his life.

Plus I like to rather stay at home and do things at home: baking, cooking, gardening (I try at least) tending the animals, relax with a book or a TV show… it makes me feel at peace.

Jumin gives me the impression of being the kind of person who enjoys the little every day details of intimacy and routine: like brushing your hair, you washing his back. Goodbye kisses, welcome back kisses, drinking wine together while making dinner… also dancing,

I totally see him sweeping you out in the middle of the night for a random dance… If you are waiting for dinner is in the living room, in front of a fireplace..

If you are cooking dinner, is in the kitchen and congrats your potatoes are burning

"Man of Iron": Which do you consider is Jumin's biggest strength?

I was going to say his resilience, because the amount of times this man has picked himself from the floor and keep fighting, the things he fought... is unparalleled… except maybe, MAYBE... for Rika…

But thinking about the origin of that resilience, what fuels it, I came to the conclusion that his biggest strength is his stubbornness:

At some point in his life Jumin decided that he wasn't going to allow this particular issue (his PTSD, his tangled threads) to be a problem for him (and the people around him) and stop him. 

Jumin had places to go, Jumin had people to meet and cats to pet.

But just as this is his biggest strength, is also his biggest weakness, as seen in how he handles Jaehee on her route, for example. 

His stubbornness doesn't allow him to see what he is doing wrong, and as a result he is left more and more alone. Trying to deny that things affect him is what makes these very things affect him the most in the end. And suffer.

Lonely Island: Has he ever made you feel less lonely and more appreciated? 

YES.

ALWAYS.

When sometimes I feel overwhelmed from all the chaos from outside, thinking in Jumin by my side actually helps me. He is a comfort presence for me, but (I think) at the difference of others who feel less lonely because of him, in my case it is not as much about, I don't know how to say this… 

I feel less lonely because of him for the way he thinks, that is very similar to mine. That's it.

Just knowing that there's people who think like him makes me feel more understood, more accompanied, like I'm not alone.

I explained this better on the day 14 actually.

As for more appreciated, YES.

I've had moments where I imagined Jumin witnessing a situation in which I was being disrespected that actually made me realize "uh, not cool, they shouldn't treat me like this", it made me cry sometimes, thinking "Jumin wouldn't like to see me like this" 

It is important to me because I'm the type of person to constantly doubt myself, if I'm not the one in the wrong, especially when the damage comes from someone close to me.

Jumin makes me want to look out for myself better.

Dear Jumin fans, in regards to today's announcement I've decided to extend the period to receive submissions for Hantober at least till tomorrow.

I don't know about you, but I'm pretty shaken right now and I have problems concentrating myself so... This seemed the most fair line of action...
