Timothy Zahn - Hollow Victory - Analog Science Fiction/Science Fact - March 30, 1981 - Pages 12-29 A decade before Star Wars Heir to the Empire was released, Author Timothy Zahn got this short story published in in Analog. Timothy Zahn’s book was the first Star Wars novel since L. Neil Smith’s Lando series in 1983. (Which had followed Brian Daley’s Han Solo series and Alan Dean Foster’s Splinter Of The Mind’s Eye featuring Luke and Leia.) Zahn wrote two more books for the trilogy, Dark Force Rising and The Last Command, which, at least for a while, were the best new adventures with my friends Han, Luke, Leia, Chewie, Lando and the Droids books a person could hope for. Zahn went on to write a lot more Star Wars novels and short stories for anthologies. One of the characters he created for Heir To The Empire, Grand Admiral Thrawn, a blue skinned Imperial, appeared in several episodes of Rebels and became one of the Rebel heroes most difficult foes. After a quick search, it appears as if this short story wasn’t collected in any of Zahn’s short story collections. #timothyzahn #timothyzahnstarwars #starwarsnovels #starwarsshortstories #starwarsstories #analog #analogmagazine #analogdigest #heirtotheempire #thrawn #grandadmiralthrawn #starwarsrebels #darkforcerising #thelastcommand #splinterofthemindseye #hollowvictory #timothyzahnhollowvictory #timothy_zahn_hollow_victory #sciencefictionsciencefact #starwars #hansoloatstarsend #hansolosrevenge #hansoloandthelostlegacy #landocalrissianandthemindharpofsharu #landocalrissianandtheflamewindofoseon #landocalrissianandthestarcaveofthonboka #starwarsbooks #analogsciencefictionsciencefact (at Portland, Oregon) https://www.instagram.com/p/ByfW44Kh-Pd/?igshid=1sqyjmnbs6jyv

Han Solo and the Lost Legacy
By: Brian Daley
Published: August 12, 1980
185 Pages
Date read: February 2015
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Synopsis: When Chewbacca and Han Solo decide to embark on a journey to locate a rumored treasure after being pursued by the most notorious hitman in the universe, their ship is ransacked, killer robots are on their trail, and they must elude dangerous assassins.
My Review: This is the book that probably started my love for reading. The first time I saw it I was about 6 years old and A New Hope had just come out in the theaters and was still fresh in my mind. Being too young to read it I thought it was the story that I had enjoyed so much in the theater, then I was told that this was a story about Han Solo before the events in the movie, my young mind was blown away I could not believe there was more to the story, further adventures. I was determined to learn how to read so I can read this book. Well I don’t know what happened to that novel, I did learn to read and enjoyed many other Star Wars novels. 36 years later I purchased a copy and finally got around to reading it.
In this story Han and Chewbacca are approached by and old smuggler buddy Alexsandr Badure who had fallen on hard times. He tells Han that he and his companion a young girl by the name of Hasti Troujow, have discovered the log disks of the Queen of Ranroon and he believes that these disks have the whereabouts of the lost treasure of the tyrant Xim. He is willing to give Han and Chewy a cut of the treasure in return for their assistance. Since Alexsandr once saved their life they feel indebted to him and agree to help. Shortly after landing on the planet of Dellalt the Millennium Falcon is hijacked by a mining operation that is after Hasti’s disks. On his way to recovering the Falcon Han and his companions must cross miles of open Dellalt country where they eventually run into a group calling themselves the Survivors an inbred group of humans who are the original descendants of Xim, who protect their existence by killing anyone who discovers them.
This read as a good classic Scifi story of the late 70’s and was written before Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn Trilogy, before the expanded universe that we know today and I believe was written before the Empire Strikes Back therefore Brian Daley probably did not have to worry about writing anything that would conflict with other characters or stories within the Star Wars universe. I was able to read this without having to continually look up characters and events in Wookiepedia to keep me from getting lost. This is the kind of high adventure I enjoyed as a kid I wished I hadn’t waited so long to read this.

This is the book that made me want to learn to read. After seeing "Star Wars" at the age of 5, I saw this book and was told it was about "Han Solo" before the movie. Almost 37 years later I'm finally getting to it.
