NBC's Hannibal, The Wrath of the Lamb 3x13 / Poppy Z. Brite, Exquisite Corpse
"You are alone, because you are unique" "I'm as alone as you are"
#i feel like will felt the former more (intimately invaded threatened)#and hannibal felt the latter more (fell to its knees and sobbed in gratitude that it was no longer alone)#which reflects their attitudes towards their ‘innermost fires’#hannibals embracing of his own and will’s suppression of his own#idk what im saying tho its been a minute and im rusty lol#nbc hannibal#hannibal lecter#hannibal#will graham#hannigram#hannibaledit#poppy z brite#exquisite corpse#pluto web weaves#the wrath of the lamb#hannibal 3x13

I have started to watch Dexter recently and I've reached the point where Dexter starts going to therapy. I feel like their conversations are the conversations that we lacked in Hannibal nbc.
What I mean is, the conversations that are not shown in the tv show. In Hannibal they focus on showing them talk more about philosophy, discovering the dark side, etc.
While in Dexter, I feel they talk about physical intimacy more openly. And maybe (surely), Hannibal and Will talked about it more deeply in the shadows of the show, but I would have really liked to watch Will flushed while trying to make his point about the subject.

Ok, rewatching the first 4 episodes again and I noticed that:
• Will is disgusted by Hannibal's copy of Garrett's kill. It wasn't a gift, it was a teasing mockery. Like saying "Look, I can do it too, but prettier." But Will doesn't care about pretty. Someone was getting close to the investigation and medeling where they weren't wanted. It bothered him.
• Hannibal was being honest when he said he felt responsibility. Not for Abigail, but for Will. He feels that level of responsibility for where Will was mentally and what happened with Garrett. I don't think he expected Garrett to just straight up kill his wife and daughter. I think he was looking for some measure of level headed thinking when it came to Garret, but it was pure emotions. Which is why Will became so intertwined with Garrett and why Hannibal seems... to have missed his mark. He's not emotional at all. Maybe he wants to be...?
• Man, Freddie has no emotional tact. She's god the words, the facial expressions and tone of voice, but there's nothing emotionally to back it up. I see it also set off alarm bells with Hannibal... God, she's such a bitch. Her wreckless behavior and lack of any personal responsibility makes her hella dangerous. Props to the actress.
• I did enjoy that Will immediately began asking for motives from Stammets. Always trying to understand, but for Stammets this was more intellectual than emotional. Probably why Will never connected with him like he did Hobbs.

just realized that abigail is to will what clarice's lamb was to her. fuck everything!!!!! FUCK EVERYTHING ("and you think if you save poor catherine, you could make them stop, don't you? you think if catherine lives, you won't wake up in the dark ever again to that awful screaming of the lambs.")
#the way clarice's characterization gets divided among the cast of nbc hannibal is really interesting actually#shes reflected in a LOT of ppl. namely will alana miriam and bedelia#just things 2 think about . things for me 2 reflect on#jonah.txt

I don't think "we shouldn't harrass and publicly single out someone for having a favourite ship/dynamic that would be considered harmful if it were real" should be a hot take
#miscellaneous#we shouldn't call someone evil for liking bad things in fiction#Do you think anyone who enjoys true crime secretly wants to be a serial killer#“Fiction is not reality” and “fiction can affect reality” are sentences that can coexist#Sure#But that doesn't mean “fiction can affect reality” should be your automatic go-to#Neither should “fiction reflects reality”#That one should be a no-brainer but here I am again talking about it#If fiction reflected reality everyone who watches Hannibal lecter would become a cannibal#But obviously not???#I really shouldn't have to say this good lord

Do you Will changed Hannibal more than Hannibal changed Will? I ask this because Hannibal got Will to open up his person suit after s2 but Will made Hannibal so much more human especially in s3 . That man went to prison for the first time, he took a bullet for someone, he made a human heart, did a massacre for Will 😭😭😭
Hi Anon!
Yes, I totally think Will changed Hannibal more than Hannibal changed Will.
At the start of the show, Will enjoys killing, doesn't admit it to himself, and doesn't want to be a killer.
At the end of the show, Will enjoys killing, does admit it to himself. and doesn't want to be a killer.
By the end Will has killed for pleasure when unnecessary (and defiled corpses, lmao). Yet Will still doesn't want to be a killer. He's partially submitted to his nature, but he kills himself and Hannibal rather than embracing his full "becoming.
I agree with the interpretation outlined in this delicious meta post. Will's internal conflict is about him enjoying killing and being capable of killing innocents, yet not wanting to be a killer.
Hannibal, meanwhile, has prized his freedom and artistry above all else. He's always been chaotic and risk-taking. But he truly cares about Will, like he truly cares about Mischa. These are the two people who change him, whether or not he admits it to himself. (By saying "I love Will. I have to eat him," Hannibal admits that the change is too big and terrifying for Hannibal. Hannibal has to love Will in a way that Hannibal understands).
*Note that I've only seen the show once so I'm sure there are aspects I've missed that would impact this question.
Thank you for the question!!
#asks#anon#my posts#thank you for the question!!#i feel like i'm mainly a lurker in the hannibal fandom so i'm very happy to share my thoughts#it's such a deep and interesting show#which i think is reflected by a lot of the meta-content#i really want to rewatch to have a better understanding of what's going on#but im still not ready for it lol#hannibal#hannibal meta
