This was so so so much fun! I loved it and I hope you guys did too! You guys are honestly some amazing artists! There were some hiccups though and I can admit that they were really all my fault, but despite that I feel like this was a lot of fun and such great art came out of it. This was really cool and I hope we can maybe do it again sometime in the future. It was fun getting to learn about all of your ocs! I think we often spend so much time on our own ocs that we don’t take any time learn more about other people’s ocs, so I feel like this was a good exercise to look into other people’s work. I just think it’s safe to say that all in all this was pretty great. Doing this with you guys was an amazing experience.
(Outlining the changes below the cut, also I quote you guys but like it’s not exact because I fixed grammar errors to make it all seem fancier)
1. Leif Ito ( @hannahki-and-art ‘s oc)
“I thought Leif seemed like the kind of kid to do benefit events or find silly group activities to do with his buds. I played around with the hair and he reminded me of Animal Crossing with his cute aesthetic so I simplified/exaggerated the fluff. I tried to give his clothes feminine flair with a lot of flowery patterns/colors. And with roller-skates, and I could be completely wrong but, I thought he’d like to skate °0° Absolute cutie though. I love Leif to death.”
From the colorful, flared clothes to the spunky roller-skates Leif is one cool cat. The clothing design, color choices, and cute pose show Leif as a cutie patootie who’s quite sure of himself. Leif’s goes from wearing a sweater and long pants to wearing a button-up with a bowtie, shorts, and the notable roller blades. The color choices Addie made really help bring out his spunky personality. Put that with is extremely cute pose and we’ve got a confident little Leif.
2. Ollie ( @punsforbuns ‘s oc)
“Oh man drawing Ollie was so much fun! I actually wanted to redesign Maren first but I just couldn’t figure out what to about them so yeah I was drawing Ollie and I was struggling with her hair and couldn’t draw it so I just drew a bun for her, but I wanted to keep the length. I ended up with the pigtail ls because they kinda resembled a merge of the two aspects of her hair. I also wanted to keep the essence of the suspenders so I decided on the overalls. However they were long and deniem at first because wearing boots with shorts is so impractical and I almost screamed. But in the end shorts looked cute so I rolled up the cuffs. When it comes to the colors it’s all honestly because I wanted to put every color in her design to show off her colorful personality. Obviously that’s impractical but I was able to fit orange (overalls) and pink (hair thingys) into her RYB design. It isn’t too different but that’s kinda was going for. I wanted her to stay essentially the same. I tried something new so it’s a but messy. I hope you like it!”
From her hairstyle to her clothes to her color Ollie has a fair amount of change in her redesign. Her core colors stay the same but some new ones are added as well. Her clothes also keep the strapped style of the suspenders but are instead replaced with overalls. The shirt is also the same just without the collar. It’s almost as if someone meant to draw it but they forgot and just left it out along with the bandage. Hmm... that’s suspicious. Lastly there’s her hair, which is molds the two buns and long hair to for cute pigtails.
3. M.R. Evil (my oc)
“So, this is the re-design for M.R. Evil, it’s too different, but I did really like the original design. I really liked the trench-coat but I thought that to be a little different so it could be like a suit/trench-coat hybrid, which probably worked better in my head :/. As for the colour pallet, I keep to the mainly purple colour scheme, but instead I went with more of a night-time colour pallet including a light yellow to make it stand out more (it was also partly inspired by the background in the picture you provided, ‘cause it was so pretty). As for the sort of random bits of fabric hanging down, it’s sort of just to add a little bit more to the overall design, and to make it feel not as empty. And not to forget the star pattern which fits with the night-time theme of the outfit, and because stars are cool. Overall I didn’t want to have to do a dramatic and over the top re-design, but rather just to add a little bit more pizzazz to it. I hope it’s alright and you like it~”
The love, care, and little details put into the character design really make it great. The muted purples and dull yellow help pull M.R. Evil into reality. Hannah’s clothing choices were also interesting, changing the design of the coat as well as adding flair to the clothes underneath. But what is most interesting is her legs. The artistic liberty taken here really adds to the character, and the decision to add boots was an insightful one. Hannah captures a side of the character in their redesign that I rarely ever choose to expand on.
4. Temp ( @addiemallory ‘s oc)
“...So first i just tried drawing Temp with a reference while trying to implement some sort of style. Basically all I discovered was that I couldn’t draw his actual hair. I also went through his tag a lot just to get an idea of his character and how to show it through his redesign. Overall, I decided to give him a very flowy look because I thought it would look really nice as he floats, so i made his sweater super baggy, his scarf long and flowy, and added poofier hair. i also emphasized his bedhead and dark circles because he seems like the type to be tired a lot...”
Temp stays true to his original design while adopting some new and interesting aspects. While he is still bruised and blushing, he acquires a pretty cool scarf. He also picks up a belt and a vest on the way while loosing his shoes and socks, poor kid. These additions help highlight the fact that he floats and display his amazing fashion sense. All in all Sally’s art style works well when highlighting certain aspects of Temp’s core design.
