Forty-five years of the illegal regime of the Islamic Republic in a single video
This is the face of Iran, the one puppeteering numerous Islamic terror organizations, among which are Hamas and Hezbollah.
The same crowd cheering as Iran and its proxies launched over 300 drones, ICBM missiles and Cruise missiles on Israel is the one calling for a ceasefire and condemning Israel for its actions. The hypocrisy is not lost on the rest of us.
Iranians deserve so much better than pasty westerners supporting the persecution they've endured & survived for decades.

i've noticed that when people attempt to handle the horror of the hanged women in the odyssey with care, there is an impulse to make penelope sympathetic to them. one problem with this is that i've read the odyssey, and she clearly isn't, but more tellingly: we know that she used to favor melantho, but any care she had for her has been shoved firmly into the past tense since melantho put a toe out of line. because melantho isn't a real daughter, she's a slave. because this is an issue of class, not female solidarity.
whatever penelope may believe about herself, she is not capable of caring for enslaved women in any meaningful way. this also goes for the rest of the slave-owning class in homer, and probably homer himself (if for the sake of brevity you want to call "homer" a "self"), which i bring up because i think you have to understand the perspective of the text to challenge it. but i notice this problem particularly with penelope because i find her complex and fascinating and i want other people to find her complex and fascinating and give her her dues, but i simply do not think you can do so by making her care about women she owns.

absolutely insane that mike literally p a n i c k e d when will was like "well what about us?" because will wasn't even really making things gay he was honest to god just inquiring about the state of their estranged friendship and wondering why mike didn't make time to talk to him when they're supposed to be best friends but MIKE was the one having an aneurysm like "🏳️‍🌈⁉️ W H AT!!"
“WE'RE FRIENDS” “i know mike” “WE'RE!!! F R I E N D S!!” “right so why don't you call me — ” “I HAVE A GIRLFRIEND” “… that in no way answers my question"

one thing about homer and greek tragedy is that most of it is about the ruling class of mythological characters, which means that all of them own slaves. it's assumed. it's also explicit.
there are people born into slavery and people sold into slavery. there are high status concubines, and low status enslaved women also being abused and assaulted. there are derogatory comments about the nature of slaves. there are enslaved people who are said to be more noble than others because they were literally, at one point, nobles. there are enslaved characters with tragic backstories and enslaved people with no stories at all. there's anxiety about fortunes overturning and making free people into slaves, and anxiety about slaves overturning their fortunes on their masters. slavery is a plot point and it's also wallpaper.
maybe if you don't want to engage with that, or with slave-owning characters in general, ancient literature is not ideal for you.

I was sitting in my hostel's common room (journaling and absentmindedly eating dinner) and tripped and fell into a two hour discussion with a British man who happened to be sitting there as well. We discussed international politics and I managed to hold my own---who knew I had this many opinions about the ICJ? Also he kissed my hand afterward, which has to be the most charming thing to happen to me in recent history. Now I'm sweetly cradled in wine bed and listening to a recording of the opera I wanted to see...it's okay, actually. Everything is wonderful.

Do you think rei would still feel like she doesn’t need to be romantically involved if she wasn’t a senshi?
Rei's "I don't have time for romance because I am dedicated to my work" strikes me along similar lines as Ami's "I'm not interested in dating because no one can live up to my crush Albert Einstein," i.e., a teenage girl's excuse for not being interested in boys
Tumblr media
I think Rei's loyalty to Princess Serenity is very real, but also conveniently allows her to rock that ace lesbian lifestyle with minimal judgment

did a little scene rewrite fic for the iconic Misa/Kiyomi dinner scene.
(in which two women who hate each other but don't really hate each other, but can't figure out why, or maybe they know exactly why and don't want to admit it, end up having sex on the floor. is maybe... what it boils down to.)

Bungou Stray Dogs: Dead Apple and how “ability users” (opposite to “normal people”) learning to accept themselves through the acceptance of their own abilities is a queer metaphor of acceptance of own's sexual orientation and gender: an essay by me
#bsd#bungou stray dogs#About: Dead Apple. Watched this a while ago with a friend and it was a lot of fun!!!#If you're reading this: thank you so much for hanging out with me I had such a good time (ㅅ´ ˘ )♡#Next to general considerations: wow they were right that Bungou Stray Dogs movie sure can Bungou Stray Dogs#It's always nice to see the detailed animation and elaborate backgrounds of movies. The animation quality compared to the manga is–#definitely noticeable and it's nice to see. That said... I still like the season 2 art style more? And I'm speaking strictly of art style.#The s2 one looks more soft and smooth while the da one is so much more rough.#The plot is... Very bsd-esque I don't think there's anything to add.#In my opinion Kyouka's arc is the one that turned out best tbh. I really like her narrative development and personal growth in this movie.#I like the complexity of her state of mind. how full of contradiction she is. I especially appreciate the recurring small changes of–#expression that indicate how she thinks differently from Atsushi even if she doesn't voice them. The fight between her cynicism and her–#kind nature. It's all very interesting.#Atsushi's development is interesting too. Although all the open questions about his ability we still have kind of leave me frustrated#I don't feel very strongly about Akutagawa in this movie? I mean‚ he's there. The ss/kk scenes are always great and in character and a joy–#to witness no matter what they do. He just doesn't shine particularly? Or at least personally I dont find the “proving my strength against–#myself” narrative arc to be particularly interesting. Imo it was a lot better flashed out in the da stage play! With the complexity that–#the dialogues with Chuuya added to the character. Dazai attacking him. And especially Aktgw understanding that Rashomon wasn't testing Aktg#but rather only expressing that unstoppable rage that is also Aktgw's own. About that I checked out the play and I really liked it!!#I only watched highlights (aka: ss/kk and chuu/aku scenes) but there's some stuff I really like. I like the conflict between Aktgw and–#Chuuya and how Chuuya messes up with Aktgw at first maliciously and then amiably. It's interesting how Atsushi himself observes that Kyouka#and Akutagawa get along. And especially the sskk almost-handholding and Atsushi saying Akutagawa has a nice profile were cute akjdhbsawhjb#Next. Da really is shipping paradise (╥﹏╥) Sorry but... It is. oda/zai. daz/atsu. ss/kk. s/kk. fuku/mori. chuu/aku. It really has everythin#and the moments are so good!!!! What else. Wish we'd see more of Tsujimura. And Christie. And women in general tbh.#Also‚‚‚‚‚ Atsushi's tiger form in this movie is ATROCIOUS. I've said it before but it's crazy how a franchises that relies so heavily on–#fanservice came up with something this hideous. Man the movie overall was pretty but Atsushi sure wasn't. Firmly stand by the belief–#that only Akutagawa would find that form attractive.#Oh last note. honestly if we're ready to accept a movie where an antidote has effect AFTER the person has effectively died then we really–#can't complain about any kind of insanity the manga brings up#random rambles

remember back in the rcdart era of tumblr when drawing fetishistic hyperfeminine caricatures of trans men with huge tits and hips and snatched waists and womens lingerie and makeup and pussies out got you ran off the site. now it's completely encouraged and is the default way people portray trans men and if you have a problem with it suddenly you're the monster. normal pro trans website great allyship

the odyssey obviously raises a lot of questions and anxieties about the relationship between a parent and a child, but surely one of them must be: what are the responsibilities of parents, and how do they pass on power and legacy to their children, in a society where enslaved labor essentially raises upper-class children?
telemachus being emotionally closer to eumaeus than he is to odysseus and penelope is one example of this tension; even eumaeus' dogs know telemachus, but almost tear odysseus apart. there's also eurycleia being the first to recognize odysseus without any reveal from man or goddess, and the fact that eurycleia's name signifies the opposite of his mother's (eurycleia = wide-fame, widely known; anticleia = anti-fame, unknown). eurycleia and eumaeus are both described as being close to odysseus' family, raised with them and having a hand in raising them. eurycleia nursed odysseus, not anticleia. there's even special note made of eurycleia being protected from laertes; and yet any relative safety they have is maintained by selling out other, "disloyal" slaves (not that the text indicates that their own loyalty isn't sincere, but think about what that proximity does to a person trying to rationalize how and why they survive).
i've kind of lost the thread of what i was saying about parental responsibility and anxiety specifically, but i do think melanthius and melantho and the other hanged women are caught up in it too, somehow. the implicit threat of eumaeus and eurycleia's existence is ultimately realized, not by them, but through the slaves who align with the suitors actively seeking to supplant odysseus and telemachus, which is why their punishment is so cruel. no hierarchy built on enslaved people ever rests easily, and there's a lot of fear about it expressed through the odyssey.
