Bully Landlord gets it in the end.

My first husband was a not very nice man. For 6 years I was belittled and basically a baby-factory for him. He was a fantastic father, but a horrible husband. After he finally got his 'heirs' I was then treated even worse until I finally 'woke up' and decided to leave his ass.

This revenge story is NOT about him. I just had to set the scene.

I moved out from the house, taking just my clothes, the car (4K value, no more) and the computer. I had nothing, stayed at a GF for a couple weeks before I was able to line up a crappy town-house with roommates. I had nothing, and my bed was a cat-pee-smelling free couch I was able to score. I wound up having 3-4 jobs with one of them being full-time and once a week I would not even be able to sleep between jobs.

Now, fast forward one year. My divorce was finalized and I had fulfilled my year's lease for the townhouse. By this time I was able to furnish the home and my bedroom and my kids' room when they would be with me for visitation.

The Scum-Bag Landlord (will just call him SBL) was a nice-ish landlord during the time of my tenancy and I was a good tenant, never being late with my rent. Although I had roommates, I was the sole name on the lease.

SBL would show up often, with some guise that he had to work on something like plumbing tests or whatever excuse he could come up with just so he could be all creepy and hang around trying to converse with me with mild sexual undertones that made me quite uneasy at times.

FINALLY the lease was fulfilled and I was now onto a month-to-month contract to which at that time I was ready to move out of this crappy townhouse, and found a great house in the mountains nearby and I was simply thrilled now that I got my feet on the ground and can afford a bit better than slum-living.

My Lease stated that I had to give one month's notice in order to move out. Unfortunately I was able to get the house I was to move into for the next month... only 3 weeks away.

I sent an email to SBL stating that I intend on moving out at the end of this month (in 3 weeks) and he can try to find another tenant. but I did state that IF he didn't find a tenant, I would still fulfill my legal obligation and pay next month's rent.

Within one week (2 weeks before I was move out) he emailed back and stated that was very generous of my offer but he was able to find a new tenant for the beginning of next month and I would be off the hook. He even tipped his hand by stating that he already collected a deposit from them.

Now, something happened within a couple days after that which was no fault of my own, nor my roommate's. The townhouse came with it's own appliances (fridge, oven etc) including a clothes washer and dryer on the main level. My roommate had put a load of laundry in and went to the living room to have a nap. He awoke to find that the washer had malfunctioned with the sensory switch which never stopped the water fill stage... and there was an inch of water in the kitchen and living room!!! He splashed through the water to turn off the washer and called me to come and help deal with this.

I was just getting off of work and I whipped home to assess the damage.

it. was. bad. There was standing water on top of the living room carpet and a good inch of water in the whole kitchen. I called SBL and told him the issue. By the time SBL showed up, I had already got most of the standing water out with the help of my roommate and friends that showed up with shop-vacs.

SBL didn't seem too upset, which was surprising for me and had an appliance repair man had come to look at the washer. The repairman even said "yep, here's the culprit" and showed how the dial would stick on the fill stage and wouldn't click over to the agitate stage. after replacing the dial and lubricating the whole deal, he left.

The next week was chaos as I was busy trying to pack and SBL had insurance guys in assessing and workers taking out the carpet and cutting 2 feet worth of the lower drywall of the whole main level.

The day of the move, though I was still supposed to be there for a couple more days, SBL had let himself in as movers were moving out my stuff with a camera going around taking pictures of everything. I honestly thought that it was for his insurance claims etc. I actually felt bad for SBL (I'm too nice) and told him that I would not ask for any of my deposit back, and he responded in front of the loading crew and my roommate "Thank you, that's very generous of you". We parted ways and I thought that was that.

I was wrong.

Two weeks into my new home location did SBL showed up on my doorstep with a summons to appear in arbitration because he was SUEING ME! WHAT???? on what grounds??? He stated it's all in this paperwork and handed me a manila envelope with 18 pages of everything he was charging me with. All including photos (now I know why he was going around taking pics). Nickle and diming me on everything from a bent Venetian blind (that was like that when I had moved in) and some scuffs on walls, etc etc. but then he ALSO wanted me to pay his insurance deductible and that following month's rent!!! He claimed that the tenants that he had lined up backed out at the last minute (claiming that they didn't think the place wouldn't be ready in time with the new drywall and paint and so on), so he still wanted me to pay that month's rent.

REALLY??

Fuck. This. Shit. I knew I was more than generous of giving him my whole deposit and then for him to come back and sue me for thousands?? He was not only claiming the damages caused by the flood, but improvements he needed to do that should never be or have been my responsibility in the first place. EVEN CRACKS in the living room wall that was from the building settling.... HOW SHOULD I BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT??? Even new lighting, faucets etc... All mainly on the accusation that I was negligent. I wasn't going to have that. I know is was a slummy townhouse complex and most of his tenants were just welfare cases, and maybe he could get away with this with others, but not me. No Way! I had just got out of a marriage that made me feel insignificant and had horrible self-esteem, but now I had my dignity and felt strong for the first time in a long time. No way was I going to let any more SHIT happen to me without my doing something about it.

I had 10 days before the date of my arbitration meeting.

I immediately got to work, first getting a signed deposition from the very repairman that had showed that day stating that the appliance was quite in need of maintenance work and the last time he had done ANY maintenance for him was almost 5 years before. From thoroughly reviewing my rental contract, and local laws, SBL is obligated to have all appliances maintained/services EVERY YEAR.

I had also talked to some of the other tenants and had heard that this wasn't the first time SBL had sued tenants after the fact. I hunted them down and got sworn statements from them also. Unfortunately for them, they didn't know what to do and mostly didn't show up at arbitration hence SBL winning by default. NO WAY I WAS NOT GOING TO LET HIM DO THIS TO ME.

I then drew up a rebuttal to each and every claim he had, including photos from the year+ that I had lived there,, printed out all my email correspondence and even convinced my ex roommate and one of the movers that heard my interaction with SBL about him stating how "generous" it was of me letting him keep my whole deposit (which was a significant amount) to come.

DAY OF ARBITRATION... I dressed up in my power-suit and with my ex-roommate and worker in tow, showed up at the meeting. Now, in Canada, arbitration is not held in a court room per se, but it still held AT the courthouse in a conference room with a judge. We had one hour with this judge. Since SBL was the plaintiff, he got to go first with his case. He spent over 40 minutes going over everything and I sat quietly until he finished.

Once he finished, I then hauled out the rebuttal in multiple copies, handed to the judge, to SBL and anyone else that wished to have one and I quickly went over each point. SBL was irate, and interrupted almost every second sentence I spoke. I would pause the moment he would start talking and say sweetly "I was quiet and polite during your time to present your case, I hope you grant me the same respect". SBL started to get red in the face, ESPECIALLY when I got to the deposition of the Maintenance worker for the appliance. I included with that the tenancy/landlord act sections pertaining to appliance maintenance and stated that this was the only record of maintenance that had occurred, and unless he can come up with more recent records from perhaps another company, it was over 5 years since anything had been looked at.

With my defense, I had also then countered that I would like my deposit back, and my day's pay from work since I had to take that day off to go to this meeting.

The judge then made his statement, and I will always remember this for the rest of my life. He stated that first, he was very impressed of my presentation and that I obviously have a good handle on things and can tell that my nature is of kindness and respect especially with photos of how I had the town house furnished and clean and pride in whatever home I would live in.

Bottom line.... Not only did I win my case, I wound up having SBL owing my over 80% of my deposit back, including interest. SBL's face was PRICELESS. The judge then proceeded to tell SBL that they will be reviewing again all his previous filings, and if there was enough evidence of harassment, he would be reported to the board of landlords and tenants. I don't really know if anything came out of that.

Now.... I walked away that day feeling on top of the world. Completely justified and he got a taste of his own medicine.

BUT... it didn't stop there. OH NO. Knowing that this guy has a history of suing tenants... I printed up my final results (and judge's signature) and gave a copy to each and every tenant in that complex. I wanted to warn everyone his practices and to keep notes, photos etc so that he couldn't do that to them.

But I didn't stop there... He still now owed ME money (he he) and I asked repeatedly for the payment. he never responded. He had until a certain day to pay me back my deposit, and on that day I had gone to his house (I looked up his residence under public records as he is a landlord and had to file under a certain address) and knocked on the door. He didn't answer, though I knew he was home. I rang the bell a few more times, and knocked loudly. he then turned his house alarm on, which at first startled me, but quickly turned to humor seeing how much of a pussy this bully turned out to be.

I then yelled out loud enough that I am not going anywhere. He yelled out, "get off my property or I will call the police!!!"

OK... no problem. I got off the property, but camped out on the front sidewalk. I had a fold-up chair, a cooler with water and sodas, a few sandwiches and all my paperwork with me. I was set to stay there forever. I then would tell anyone that would walk by (already there were some people there from the house alarm fiasco) about how I was a tenant and wrongfully sued me and that I have a claim against him and he now owes ME money. I let anyone look at the paperwork just to back up my claim.

The police DID SHOW UP! they first went to talk to SBL and he was claiming that I was harassing him, slandering him and wouldn't leave his property. I was on public property (sidewalk) and it isn't slander if it's true, of which I had all my court-signed paperwork to back me up. I wasn't disturbing the peace, I was simply and quietly seated outside his home and just talking to neighbors about his actions.

He was out YELLING that I need to leave, and I quietly stated that I would be happy to leave once I am paid that he was legally obligated to do by that date. I was not going to leave before I got money in my hand, and I was more than willing to stay there and tell anyone that would listen to me why I was camped out. The police stated I wasn't doing anything wrong, that it's public property, I wasn't disturbing the peace and it isn't slander if it's true.

Finally after an hour of SBL yelling on his front lawn at the policemen (and at me, of course) did his wife come out with money. She handed the money to the police, of which in turn handed the money to me, and signed off documenting final payment was complete. I sweetly smiled, thanked the police deeply, and went home.

I have no idea what ever happened to SBL, and if he is still pulling shit like this on others, but I hope that I helped put the fear of god in him that he just can't screw with people because eventually it will come and bite him in the ass.

Lili The next to last month of Lili's pregnancy had been..long. In fact, this entire pregnancy had felt like she had been carrying Charlotte for two years. From spending her days hovering over the toilet to dry heaving for hours, Lili had spent a good portion of her pregnancy feeling like Charlotte had been sent to torture her. It had been..hard to connect to Charlotte at first. All Lili could focus on was the constant nausea, her pounding head and her burning throat. Luckily, medication had worked for her and had allowed Lili to eat again and properly take care of her body. Once she saw Charlotte on the screen and came to know she was a girl, it was easier and easier to really attach herself to the idea of meeting her daughter. The symptoms stayed the same but Lili knew the end of the rainbow was in sight. She had a few more weeks to go and was positive she'd make it to her due date..even if her Braxton Hicks contractions were really messing with her mind. They felt exactly like period cramps and while she knew they could get worse, it still made Lili stop in the middle of walking around Charlie's nursery and clench the rocking chair top tightly.

Cole: Sat at this computer in the study, Cole was busy fielding business emails about work and travel. It was pretty much the same response everytime, replying back that they weren't doing any traveling for a while and that he wasn't taking any other work for the same period of time too. Lili was nearing the end of her pregnancy and Cole was determined to make this part and the next few months as stress free as possible. The nursery had been done for weeks and the bags had been packed a while back too so now it was just about taking it as easy as they could and hopefully rest up a bit too. Turning off the computer for the time being, Cole smiled as Sansa stood from her place in the corner and made his way through the living room to turn on the kettle before looking around the small apartment for Lili "Hey, I'm making some tea, do you want- Are you okay?" He asked her, concern on his face as he walked deeper into the nursery.

Lili nodded as she heard Cole's questions. She thought some tea would be great to soothe her stomach. "Tea would be good. I'm great." She waved her hand and flashed him a tight smile, relaxing as the grip on her abdomen loosened. She felt fine now and she followed him into the kitchen, sitting herself down on a seat and watching as he gathered what he needed to prepare the tea. The dogs were around his ankles, hoping for some treats, and Lili browsed through her phone. If she thought the Braxton Hicks were painful, how was she going to handle the real thing? Why didn't the pregnancy books prepare you for how boring waiting to go into labor was? Drumming her nails against the counter, Lili placed her phone down and then emitted a small noise. The cramp was now not only in her stomach, but also in her back and seemed to last for a minute. She held her breath, trying to breathe through the pain and it was unsteady. Fuck.

Cole: gave Lili a wary look. He didn't believe her for a second but he wasn't about to push on something that might not be a big deal. He'd just watch her a little closer and interviene if he really felt like he had to. Leading the way to the kitchen, Cole poured two mugs of water and added the tea bags to them, letting them steep for a little bit before putting them in the bin and turning around to hand one to Lili. He slid the mug over to her, watching her carefully. She looked like she was in pain and if she was trying to hide it, it wasn't going well. "Lil, what are you doing?" He asked her, an amused smile on his face "Are you having braxton hicks again?"

Lili "Mhm. Braxton Hicks," Lili replied in a strained voice. That's exactly what these were. She didn't care that they were now five minutes apart and lasting a minute each, they were /not/ the real thing. She had weeks to go and she wasn't ready to bring Charlotte into this world yet. She still had some more baking to do. Ignoring Cole's smirk, Lili took a sip from her mug and pressed her lips together. She could anticipate that another one was coming and she wanted to get out of the kitchen before Cole noticed and stopped playing along with her. She stood up and just like clockwork, a contraction hit again and the pain radiated from up her thighs, up her back and around to her abdomen. She felt like she could barely breathe and she had had to clutch onto something steady again, letting out short huffs of air while her child squeezed her insides to a pulp. "I'm gonna go take a shower," Lili called out weakly and began to head to the stairs.

Cole: Either they were actually braxton hicks contractions like Lili said or she was determined to believe that they were because she didn't want Cole to worry. And even if they were what Lili said, Cole wasn't about to leave her by herself to deal with it all alone. "You didn't finish your tea" Cole told her but it seemed to have fallen on deaf ears and he wiped the sink down before beginning to follow Lili. The chance that she'd get annoyed by him hovering over her was high but Cole had a feeling that leaving her wasn't a good decision either. "Alright, I'm going to shave while you do that" He didn't grow facial hair very fast so he didn't actually need to and Lili could easily call his bluff but..then so could he with her.

Lili "You don't even have stubble right now," Lili mumbled but she let Cole follow her anyways. She knew what he was trying to do and she wasn't going to let him win. She was fine. When she reached the bathroom, Lili leaned over to turn on the shower and then a contraction gripped her so badly, her hand fumbled from the faucet and she nearly fell. "Fuck," she openly cursed, not pretending at the moment. Her back felt like it was on fire and she tried to straighten up to relieve the pressure but her contraction still rolling kept her bent over. Remembering what the lamaze classes had taught her in terms of breathing through the pain, Lili closed her eyes and timed her breaths with the ebbs and flows of her cramps. Breathe in, breathe out. When it had passed, she stubbornly got the water on and drew back the curtain, preparing herself to undress.

Cole: "And I don't really think you're having braxton hicks contractions but...here we are" Cole bantered back. He wasn't upset, mostly amused at how long Lili was going try and keep the facaed up for. She was right though, he had almost nothing to shave and now that she'd acknowledged it, Cole wasn't going to do anything about it. Sitting down on the side of the bath, Cole watched the scene in front of him unfold. He loved Lili but boy she could be stubborn at times. "Lil, I'm going to start timing them" He told her once he was confident she was okay. He pulled his phone out, setting it to the side of him so they could use it when they needed to "And then I'm going to call Maria and see what she says" Lili might've been choosing to ignore it but Cole was going to get ready.

Lili "I'm fine!" Lili countered back and had just removed her sweatpants when another one hit. This one felt so strong that Lili had to physically lean over and sway her body in order to feel like she wasn't about to pass out. She could feel Cole's gaze on her and until she was done, Lili didn't look at him before picking up his phone and hitting the timer. Two minutes. That had been a two minute contraction and they seemed to be coming quicker and quicker. She let out a sigh. She was stubborn, not deluded. Pulling her sweatpants back on, Lili placed a hand on her back and sat down on the closed toilet lid. "Call Maria and get the bag," she gave in wearily. "I think it's time to go to the hospital."

Cole: They had to have been painful. This Cole knew because Lili wasn't someone who'd give in too easily if she could help it. At least she seemed to handling it well for even if he wasn't sure what the next few hours had in store for them. When she sat down, Cole pressed the speed dail on his phone and made his way from the bathroom to the nursery, grabbing the bag, some shoes for Lili, a bucket and eventually shoes for himself. "Just take her in" he could hear Maria saying on the other end of the line and Cole made his way back to Lili, offering a hand for her. When he eventually hung up, Cole helped Lili slip her shoes on. "She said that she's working now so she'll meet us in triage and she's going to call Dr Richards to come in. You're not feeling sick right?" he asked her, slipping a hand into hers. Lili was only thirty six weeks so Cole was slightly worried that it was a bit early but he wasn't about to let Lili know that.

Lili had her head down, trying to take deep breaths and exhale them out. This was happening earlier than they had anticipated and while she didn't feel as worried as she would if it had been weeks before, it still troubled her. She took Cole's hand and slid her feet into some comfortable sandals. She didn't care about looking cute right now, she cared about being comfortable. She walked with him down the stairs and when she reached the bottom, Lili inhaled sharply and squeezed Cole's hand hard as a contraction came and went. It took a few minutes to get to the car and when she was sitting down, the pain only worsened. She didn't know if this was because the baby's head was now pressing down on her back but it was incredibly uncomfortable and Lili shifted. "Fuck, I hate this," she admitted with a shaky laugh and closed her eyes.

Cole: There had been several moments during this pregnancy that Cole had been grateful that by some miracle they lived only a two minute drive from not only their hospital but one that specifically dealt with high risk pregnancies. He barely flinched when Lili squeezed his hand and Cole locked the door behind them as they made their way out of the apartment. He settled the bucket he'd brought by Lili's feet just in case and made sure she was buckled in properly before getting into the car himself. "I know, we'll be at the hospital soon I promise" He reassured her, pulling out of the garage and taking Lili's hand again. When they made it to the hospital, Cole grabbed the bag, opening the door for Lili and helping her out so they could walk inside.

Lili knew she'd barely remember the ride to the hospital in years to follow. All she could focus on was breathing in and out during her contractions. It was a short trip but it still felt like forever. When they finally arrived, Lili held onto Cole's hand as they walked inside. She gave a tight smile to the receptionist, signed herself in and they were told to wait for a nurse to bring them back. Lili didn't want to sit again - it was horrible on her back so she paced back and forth in front of Cole, ignoring the sympathetic looks she was getting from other patients. If she saw one damn camera phone out..Luckily, nobody invaded their privacy and Lili rubbed down at her back. Was this what back labor was? Literally, the worst kind of labor pain she had read about? Fantastic. She was trying to keep herself calm because she knew contractions could stop from anxiety and Lili didn't want to deal with this for any longer than she had to.

Cole: Thankfully the triage room didn't seem too busy and Cole spent the time watching Lili and making sure he knew what was going on if she needed him. It hadn't been too long so far and really he was hoping the rest wouldn't take too long either. It clearly painful, which was to be expected but Cole didn't want Lili to have to deal with it longer than she needed to. She already looked exhausted and it had barely begun. "You're here! Wow you guys were quick!" Cole looked over to the side to see Maria walking towards them and smiled slightly. She had been with them since the start of the pregnancy and Cole was grateful that they had a professional with them now. "How are you doing honey?" She asked Lili, rubbing her arm comfortingly. "You guys caught me right at the start of my shift" Cole followed Maria and Lili as Maria talked, greeting the nurses and dcotors he knew by name as they passed them. It still sucked that they'd been enough to know almost everyone working on the maternity floor but it was also comforting to be sorrounded by people they knew and not a bunch of complete strangers. "You okay?" He asked Lili once they'd made it to the room and Cole had put the bag on the floor. He could tell Lili was at least a little nervous and he pressed a reassuring kiss to her forehead. If he stayed calm it'd be easier for Lili to do the same "You're doing great" he told her "I love you"

Lili didn't want to be rude but she also just wasn't in the mood to talk much. She gave a small smile to Maria and closed her eyes as she rubbed her back, enjoying that more than she could say. Breathe in, breathe out. That was all she could focus on right now or she'd lose her shit. This was just the beginning and she knew it was going to get a hell of a lot harder. "I'm okay," she answered Cole as she got settled in the bed and tried to get herself as comfortable as possible. "I love you too." She found his hand and squeezed it, keeping quiet as she was hooked up to an IV. After this entire pregnancy, a needle sliding into her skin barely fazed her anymore. It was a flurry of activity in the room as nurses came in and out, checking her vital signs and Lili just continued to deal with the contractions. If Cole was feeling any pain from her constant squeezing of his hand, he said nothing. "Can you call my mom?" She asked him. She didn't think she was at an active part of labor yet but still, better to be safe than sorry and she knew she wanted her mom in the room with her. "Hi Lili, we're just going to check and see how much you're dilated.." Lili winced as the nurse's fingers gently swept over her cervix, the plastic gloves feeling uncomfortable against her skin but she knew it was necessary. "About three, mama." With a snap, the gloves were off and Lili tried not to choke. Only /three/? "We're going to monitor you for a bit, you seem to be in early labor. Get comfortable, this might take a few hours." Lili pressed her head against the pillow and gave Cole a look. Great.

Cole: Cole just sat off to the side once the room started flooding with medical staff and nurses. He didn't want to be in the way of anything and it'd just be easier to let everyone do their job and focus on Lili himself. "Yeah sure" He replied, pulling out his phone and phoning her Mom. When he hung up, he turned to Lili again "She says that the next flight isn't for a few hours but she'll be on it" he told Lili, slipping his phone back into his pocket. Apart from the lamaze classes, the video they'd watched and the few books Cole had read, he didn't know much about actually having a baby. But given how much pain Lili had seemed to be in at home, he'd really been hoping that it wouldn't take too long. Clearly he'd been wrong and Cole flashed Lili a reassuring smile when she looked over at him, kissing her hand. The next few hours were sure to be intense but at least they were in the home stretch. "How long does she have to be monitored for?" He asked one of the nurses. "Maybe another ten minutes?" "So can she move after that then?" He continued "Sure, if she wants". Cole turned back to face Lili "You want to go for a walk after that then? Didn't the lady in the class say that it helps speed it up? Orrr you could get in the tub over there? Take a shower? Warm waters meant to help too right?" Cole was really unsure whether Lili would actually feel like doing anything he suggested, but it seemed better than just sitting on a stationary bed, especially since sitting down seemed to have worsened the pain the in the car.

Lili listened carefully to what the nurse was saying. Now that she knew what was happening, she was going to be on hyper alert. "Yeah, we can go for a walk," she agreed. Getting up might make her feel better. She held onto Cole's arm as she rose from the bed and took careful steps. She had to pause every few minutes to breathe out a contraction but the pain in her back seemed to lessen as they moved around the corners of the hospital. Everyone they passed gave them smiles and even though Lili was in pain, she smiled back. She knew this was a happy reason to be in the hospital unlike others she knew people were in the beds for. At least she wasn't sick or recovering from something. She was about to bring life into the world. When they came back to her room, Lili settled back in her bed and used some pillows to prop her up. Maria came back in with a clear cup of apple juice, a calm smile on her face. "We want you to drink this. We haven't seen any movement from the baby for a while and we just want to make sure she's awake." Lili took the cup, trying not to panic. The baby wasn't moving? She sipped slowly, rubbing her stomach with her hand. She knew if Charlie didn't make movements soon, there'd be trouble.

Cole: Walking the halls of the maternity floor was giving Cole an odd sense of dejavu. The last time they'd really been walking them had been when Lili was diagnosed with HG at ten weeks and had barely been pregnant. They'd looked through the nursery with a sense of awe at the tiny babies and now it seemed as though soon it'd be their tiny baby that would be in there. It felt...long. Walking and stopping every few minutes. It wasn't a bad thing, Cole just hoped that it would actually work in speeding up the process because watching Lili in pain was awful. Taking his seat by Lili's head again, he watched Maria walk in. He wasn't sure whether she'd been sent in because they knew her best or what but either way, he didn't think her news was as good as she was trying to make it seem. "I'm sure she's just sleeping" He told Lili, rubbing her shoulder comfortingly.

Lili nodded, not wanting to give her nerves away but her anxiety had spiked up. She drank until the cup was empty and kept rubbing her stomach. 'C'mon, Charlie girl,' she internally encouraged her resting daughter. 'Look alive. Mama's ready to meet you but not in the next five minutes'. Lili knew it was a sign of something wrong if Charlotte wasn't moving and if it stayed that way for a period of time. The nurses came in and out over the next twenty minutes, monitoring Charlotte's heart rate which hadn't seemed to spike and Lili held onto Cole's hand tightly. She wasn't going to cry but she was seconds away from freaking out and demanding that they do something to make Charlotte move. They weren't going to come this far and fail. "She's just asleep," Maria agreed with Cole, a cheerful lilt in her voice and Lili tried to mimic that positivity but it wasn't working as well as she hoped. A buzzer was placed on Lili's stomach that vibrated every few minutes and when practically a hour had passed, Lili was almost pleading with her tummy. "C'mon baby, wake up," she bit down on her lip hard. "I really don't want to be cut open..I know you're lazy like me but let's get moving." Maria gave Lili's shoulder a squeeze and exited the room, saying she was going to have them check one last time before they thought about an emergency C-section. That hadn't been in the birth plan and Lili /really/ didn't want it. Almost as soon as Maria got out the door, Lili felt movement in her tummy and she let out a laugh. "I think she's awake!" A wave of relief swept over her, even though she realized all this stress had meant her contractions had slowed..and she probably hadn't dilated a bit.

Cole: "Yeah she's probably working just as hard as you and decided to take a nap while on the job" Cole joked. The next hour or so seemed to pass in a haze of silent pleas for Charlotte to do something. Cole wasn't really too worried and he had long since mastered the art of staying calm even when he felt like freaking out on the inside but, this was still out of his control and it wasn't anything you wanted to mess with. He just wanted everything to go smoothly. "Maybe if we pretend to go to sleep she'll decide to move like she does every night" He continued, letting out a small sigh of relief when Lili announced that she'd actually moved. "I'm so glad" He spoke, rubbing his hand over her stomach soothingly.

Lili was so relieved to know that she didn't have to go in for a C section. The vain part of her hadn't been looking forward to the scars that would come from it and she knew that it could easily turn dangerous. She also knew that it took women much longer to recover from those births. Maria came back in and they all watched as the monitor displayed Charlotte moving around, the sight beautiful to Lili's eyes. She knew her daughter was just trying to rile them all up. "Just holding out on us," Maria chuckled. "She's awake!" When the nurse came back in to check her dilation, Lili knew she probably had stayed the same due to her contractions stopping and once again, she was only at 3 centimeters. Getting up, Lili held onto Cole's hand so they could walk around the halls together again. "Thank you," she told him with a weak smile and then paused to place her hands against the wall as she bent over with a heavy contraction. "You're my rock." The words were muffled but she hoped he could hear and understand her. She wouldn't be as calm going through this if it weren't for him, he was keeping her relaxed and reminding her that it was all just a temporary thing.

Cole: Cole wasn't sure whether to be surprised or not that it had stayed the same. He knew that first labors were usually the longest but it still didn't mean he wasn't disheartened on Lili's part for it. It seemed to be taking a while and even though he knew it would eventually be over, it just seemed like a long time until then. Rubbing her back as they stopped their walk, Cole kept a careful on eye on her. "There's no where else i'd rather be" He promised. He wasn't sure whether his gesture was really doing anything but one thing that had been glaringly obvious over the course of the pregnancy was the whole thing was really out of his control. It was completely up to Lili and Charlotte.

Lili nodded and then felt a familiar swirling in her stomach. As fast as she could, she managed to make it back to her room and grabbed a pan to throw up in. If this was what the next few hours were going to consist of, she was in for a rough ride. She sat on the bed and emptied her stomach, feeling miserable. She suddenly had a new respect for her mother. She couldn't believe she had done this /three/ times..Lili wasn't even sure she was going to survive this one. It was looking more and more like Charlotte was going to end up being an only child, no matter how hormonal Lili sounded right now. She tried to pull her hair back and she laid back against the pillow, tears springing to her eyes. All she wanted to do was cry and sleep.

Cole: had been really hoping that they'd be able to make it out of this nausea free. The past few months had been filled with it and dealing with it and contractions just didn't seem like something they really wanted to deal with, but they'd had no such luck. It was worse too knowing that there wasn't much they could do. Pulling a hair tie from his wrist, Cole tied Lili's hair up into a messy bun on top of her head. One of the only usefull skills he'd taken from this whole experience. His heart broke when Lili's eyes started watering and he used his thumbs to wipe her cheeks softly. "Hey, I love you and you're doing so well" He told her. "Do you want to see if you can sleep for a little bit? Or you could take a bath or a shower and see if it'll help you relax a little bit?" It was getting later. Cole wasn't sure how long this was going to go on but if they were in it for a while, getting Lili to rest probably wasn't a bad idea.

Lili sniffled, wishing there weren't so many people in the room to watch her break down but also being way too tired to care. "I can give you an Ambien," the nurse suggested but Lili shook her head. She didn't want to be drugged up - at least not yet and she definitely didn't want to mess with a pill that, if not worked properly, could give her weird hallucinations and cause her to be groggy during birth. She was tired but she'd let herself fall asleep naturally. "I'm going to see if I can sleep," she told him and pressed her head against the pillow as she closed her eyes. Maybe if she got some sleep, she'd wake up and be dilated a little more or they'd let her get in the shower to try and relieve her back pain. It took a while, with her contractions constantly making her wince but soon Lili drifted off into an uneasy sleep.

Cole: Cole gently pushed some hair from Lili's face as she got comfortable on the bed, pulling the blankets up a little bit more so she wouldn't be cold. He was glad she was getting some rest and even if she didn't sleep, hopefully it would still help a little bit. A lot of the room left once Lili was out and Cole stayed on the chair next to the bed. The lights had been dimmed and the only real source of light was coming from the monitors in the corner of the room. Cole watched Lili for a little bit, just to make sure she was alright before pulling out his phone. He didn't want to tell everyone what was going on. Only the select few people who really needed to know. Everyone else could know once it was all over and they were settled at home. He called his dad first who promised he'd be on a flight out later that weekend, made sure Dylan knew and then Madelaine so someone would be able to feed the dogs and because she was the godmother. KJ was his last contact and when he was done Cole put his phone back down before getting comfortable in the chair again, watching the heartrate monitor blip away.

Lili woke up a few hours later and immediately grabbed the pan. She didn't know how she could be somewhat peaceful and then in so much pain all at once. She also wasn't even sure what she was throwing up anymore but the nausea was intense and the pain was burning white hot down her back. Her face pale, she looked over at Cole. She hated to disturb him and get him out of his peaceful position but she was ready to try a bath now. "I think I'll try a shower," she whispered in way of greeting. All she wanted to do was have Cole wrap her in his arms but she could barely breathe through the pain. Moving as slowly as she could, Lili moved into the shower and let the warm water wash over her after she undressed. Every move felt like a million weights on her but the relief of the water helped. "I just want her out," she moaned to Cole, dry heaving as her stomach contracted again.

Cole: "Okay lets go" Cole felt a little bit rested after the few hours Lili had been asleep. Maria had brought coffee in halfway through and Cole was grateful. He wasn't tired but the coffee had definitely made him a little more alert and once Lili woke up again, he was awake and ready to help. He stayed as close as he could to her when they moved and stood to the side of the water when Lili was in the shower. Getting wet was the least of his worries and he wanted to be within reach in case Lili needed him. "I know baby" he spoke, taking Lili's hands and wrapping them around his neck. She'd barely been awake ten minutes and already she looked completely exhausted. Having to keep herself balanced properly seemed tiring of itself and he figured being able to lean on someone was easier. "I'll breathe with you. Like we did at the classes we took. In...and out"

Lili was grateful for Cole keeping her up. It physically hurt her to straighten her back because Charlie was pressing her head against her spine. If she could reach in and readjust her, she would. Burying her head into Cole's neck, Lili tried to follow his soothing instructions. The breaths were hard to keep steady but all Lili could do was focus on breathing through the pain and remembering that the contractions would pass. The closer they got together, the better, right? It meant she was getting closer and closer to actually giving birth. Cole's breathing in her ear was comforting and when the water began to grow cold, Lili turned it off and wiped at her eyes. She dried off with a towel and moved into some comfortable clothes again, getting back in the bed. The urge to vomit was there once more but Lili was barely fazed, just leaning back into the bed and giving shallow breaths as she gripped Cole's hand. A new nurse had walked into the room, explaining they were switching shifts and introduced herself. When Lili was checked again, she was relieved to hear she had dilated 5 centimeters now. Closer and closer.

Cole: Cole was glad that the shower and the warm water seemed to be helping at least a little bit. They couldn't stay there the whole time but at least for part of it, it had worked. Cole was still almost completely dry when they eventually stepped out of the bathroom and he dried his feet on the bath mat before helping Lili change and move back to the bed. He introduced himself to the next nurse, shaking her hand and then slipped his hand back into Lili's when she was in bed and he'd taken his place beside her once more. He could barely feel Lili squeezing his hand and even if he could've he wouldn't have cared. "You're halfway!" He spoke, looking at Lili. "Not long to go now"

Lili nodded and tried to pull the blankets further over her. She was freezing. Her body couldn't stop shaking no matter how many of the covers she tried to move on top of her. The pain was getting more and more intense so Lili just kept her eyes closed. Cole's presence next to her was the only body heat she could feel and it was barely anything. The hours had been passing and passing and Lili knew they had moved onto the next day but it felt like she had been in that hospital room for hers. "Can I get an IV of fluids?" She asked the nurse, her teeth chattering. "I could really use an epidural soon." Lili didn't care how many reports had been passed around about epidurals during pregnancy. All the more kudos to women who braved labor without them but she wasn't going to be one of those ladies. She couldn't even keep her eyes open, she hurt so bad. She could feel the color draining from her face as each contraction made her emit sounds of discomfort. "I want my Mom," she whimpered to Cole, hot new tears falling down her face. "I don't think I can do this."

Cole: As soon as Lili started shaking, Cole started worrying. Thankfully the nurse had said it was perfectly fine and common but it didn't stop him from being concerned. Why didn't anyone tell you that? That most women shook at some point. It didn't seem like much but really the room was pretty warm considering it was fall in Vancouver and already cold. Cole could see her visibly shaking and it was still a little unsettling. Cole watched as the nurse hooked Lili up to the IV before leaving the room to go and see about getting the anesthesiologist. One of the only good things to come from Lili having HG was the medical knowledge they'd gained so most things didn't worry Cole too much because he had a base knowledge and knew generally what was going on. Cole had also never been one of those partners that had really given too much opinion on what Lili did. It was her body and Cole was just going to support whatever she decided to do with it. "You can. You've /been/ doing it" He reminded her. "Her flights in a couple hours. She'll be here soon I promise"

Lili nodded, but she still couldn't stop crying. Everything was so overwhelming. She was tired, cold, and hungry. Each few minutes, Charlie would hit her with another contraction and she'd just squeeze onto Cole's hand as she waited for it to pass. It took another half hour but soon, a nurse was coming in to check her and she sent the couple a grin. "Seven centimeters! You're almost there." It was a relief, also that she could still get an epidural. "Ah," Lili let out a whimper as another contraction hit and she buried her face in her pillow. The anesthesiologist was talking to her but she couldn't really understand him. All she could focus on was her breathing and the fact that Cole was right there next to her, not letting go of her or going out of her eyeview. The sight of the needle should've terrified her but Lili didn't care. She leaned off the side of the bed and shook while she waited for it to go into her spine. Instant relief. It was like her body just..sagged. Lili exhaled a few shaky breaths and moved her hand over her eyes to try and get her crying under control.

Cole: Cole was mostly just happy to sit off to the side and let Lili squeeze the life out of his hand. She was strong but it wasn't painful and Cole didn't mind. Knowing Lili was further along was good. "You're nearly done!" It just meant they'd have less time now to deal with everything. He hadn't been counting the hours or anything but it felt like they'd been in the hospital forever and it was nice to know that the labor part of it would be over soon at least. They were getting closer and closer to actually meeting their daughter and it finally felt like they could get excited about it. Cole stayed on the front side of Lili when they gave her the epidural. He had nothing against it but watching a huge needle be inserted into her spine wasn't something he particularly wanted to watch. "Better?" He asked Lili as the room cleared a little bit.

Lili nodded but still didn't speak. She didn't trust herself to speak, honestly. She just relaxed in the bed and took deep, calming breaths. She could still feel the ripples of pain but they weren't as intense as before. It just felt like dull cramps and they were much easier to handle than whatever she had been fighting earlier. After a few minutes of laying there, their doctor came back in and pulled on some gloves. "We're going to break your water, Lili, okay?" Lili wasn't particularly looking forward to this but she knew it had to be done so she sat up and nodded. As gently as she could, her doctor inserted the device and Lili sucked in a breath. It didn't hurt as badly as she thought it would but the warm trickle of water down her legs did feel..strange. It definitely felt like she peed herself. She relaxed back into the bed. "We'll check on you again in a little bit, see if you're ready to start pushing!"

Cole: At least Lili seemed more relaxed than she had been before and for that Cole was grateful. She'd be able to rest a little bit before everything really started happening and would hopefully have more energy for it. Once they broke her water, it seemed like everything was really going to start happening. Maybe not right away but it felt like a definite sign that they were near the end of everything and it was a weird feeling. The whole pregnancy had sort of felt like it had dragged on for most of the time and all Cole had wished for was for this to come sooner so Lili wouldn't have had to deal with her HG any longer. It wasn't like he wanted it to keep going but it was trippy to think that they'd have an actual baby soon and not a sonogram of one. "You're almost done!" He spoke, kissing her on the forehead.

Lili gave Cole a weak smile. She wished she could return his enthusiasm. It wasn't that she wasn't excited, she was. She was just exhausted and more than ready to be holding Charlotte in her arms. She closed her eyes and drifted off for a half hour nap. When she woke, she could see the nurse coming back in to push her legs apart. It barely fazed her anymore, privacy and modesty had gone out the window. "Miss Lili," she announced with a big smile. "You are at 10 centimeters and officially ready to start pushing. We're going to drain your bladder to see if we can move your baby girl down and then we'll get started!" That didn't sound pleasant but Lili's heart had started to race. She sat up and looked over at Cole. "Holy shit," she spoke, the first words since a while. "We're gonna meet Charlie."

Cole: Lili still seemed to be a little bit out of it but Cole didn't mind. The coffee he'd had earlier when Lili was sleeping had boosted his energy levels a lot and he felt like he had enough for the both of them. Any kind of sleep Lili was getting was good for her and Cole was just happy that she seemed to be truly at peace for a little bit even if it was just a short nap. An amused smile settled on his face as Lili woke up and then spoke and Cole faught the urge to tell her how adorable she looked half asleep and only just realising. "We are. She'll be here soon" He told her, giving her hand a gentle squeeze

Lili smiled back at Cole, feeling the most relieved she had felt since entering this hospital. She was going to be an actual mom and they were going to be parents in a matter of hours. The labor had been so long - a whole day had passed but it was almost over. When the nurse came back in with the catheter, Lili almost blanched but she steeled herself. She could do this. She winced as it was inserted - she /felt/ that which definitely meant she was going to be feeling Charlie coming out of her. That epidural didn't get rid of /that/ pain. It was over soon though and then the room was a flurry of activity. Everything was set up and her legs were placed in stirrups as the mirror was pushed down in case she wanted to see Charlie being born. This was going to be..strange. She had always envisioned her mom being here but she knew that was out of her control and besides, Cole had been more than enough support. She grabbed onto his hand. "I love you," she smiled at him. "Even though you suck for making me push out this watermelon."

Cole: "I love you too" Cole replied back, staying in his position at the head of the bed and trying not to get in the way of the all the nurses and Dr Richards giving commands and doing things throughout the room. "Technically she's only the size of a romaine lettuce but it's alright I'll take it"Everyone had been relatively calm throughout the time they'd been here so far but the room filling with people and everyone bustling about was bringing a nervous energy with it. Cole wasn't worried but the isolette that he recognised from the NICU that was being brought in was a little nerve wracking. He knew the doctors and nurses would've tried to stop Lili going into labor if they were really concerned about her being born now but she was still four weeks early. Cole gripped Lili's hand, either way they were in this together.

Lili "Shut up," Lili chuckled but Cole joking around was definitely easing her nerves. She was terrified for what she was about to do and even though she knew it wouldn't last forever, she wasn't looking forward to the pain. Her doctor got in between her legs and gave her an encouraging smile, the nurses standing by her at attention too. She was a woman and she was made to do this. She had carried Charlotte for these past few months and she had done everything she could to make sure she was healthy and safe. It was time to meet her. Lili took in a deep breath and began to push the minute she was told. It /hurt/. It wasn't as bad as contractions but the burning sensation made her feel like she had submerged her bottom half in a pit of lava. Her entire lower body was on fire. "Oh my God," she wheezed out and squeezed Cole's hand as hard as she could. "Oh my /God/, you suck." Dr. Richards was talking right along with her. "Good control, Lili, good job! Just keep pushing. She's crowning!" Lili could see Charlie's head slowly sliding out and she sobbed, unable to process that this was happening. Her body was being stretched out but it was beautiful.

Cole: The room was still a flurry of activity but Cole was determined to just focus on Lili. He kept mostly quiet save for the occasional words of encouragement. There was already so many people talking and Dr Richards was already giving her commands so it seemed pointless to Cole to give Lili more things to focus on when she clearly didn't need it. "Sure honey" He chuckled slightly. For as emotional as Lili could get, especially over this pregnancy Cole was pretty surprised she hadn't cursed him out earlier. She'd definitely handled everything better than they'd thought she would. With her having HG this pregnancy it had definitely been a lesson in trying to keep clam over something you weren't sure about and that was probably only going to help them now and later. "She's nearly here!" He spoke, keeping his eyes carefully on Lili.

Lili Pushing was going by faster than Lili anticipated but she was grateful for that. All she wanted was to hold Charlie now. The pushing wasn't nearly as bad as the back pains and contractions had been - it just felt like a lot of pressure and like something was tearing. Trying not to think about what the hell was going on down there and praying for a speedy recovery in that area, Lili pushed in time with her contractions and let out various shouts. She was determined to make it through this, no matter how difficult it felt. Lili breathed in time with each push and after four minutes of just pausing and pushing, Lili could hear their daughter crying as she arrived into the world. It was the sweetest sound she had ever heard. "Oh my God," she sobbed and immediately looked around to see if she could see Charlotte. Their baby was here, and Lili could see her little hand pushed against her face as she wailed. Tears streamed down her face as Charlotte was placed on her chest. She was gorgeous. Messy, bloody, and screaming her head off but absolutely gorgeous. Little tufts of blonde hair stuck up and Lili cradled Charlotte close to her chest, looking at Cole with misty eyes. "Look at her. Look how beautiful your daughter is. Hi Charlie. Hi Charlie girl."

Cole: Cole had heard from various people that he'd talked to how overwhelming it was meeting your child for the first time. Even if he hadn't fully understood it until now. It was a flood of emotions as everything progressed quickly and Cole was unprepared for strongly he'd feel when he heard Charlotte scream for the first time. Actually seeing her was something else altogether. "She's perfect" He spoke softly, unable to take his eyes off her. She was tiny and still using her lungs to the best of her ability but it was sound he didn't think he'd ever tire of hearing. He wiped his eyes a bit, kissing Lili on the forehead and rubbing Charlie's back over the towel a little. "Do you want to cut the cord?" He was too enamoured with Charlie to relise he was being spoken to "Cole?" "What? Oh um sure" He took the scissors, cutting between the two clamps when he was instructed before handing them back and moving over to his spot again.

Lili Lili rocked back and forth gently in her spot on the bed, her arms wrapped protectively around Charlotte. She was so little and she was the most beautiful baby Lili had ever seen. She was all theirs. "Ten fingers and ten toes," Lili cooed in delight. She looked up to see the awestruck expression on Cole's face and laughed. He was so cute and this was a moment she was never going to forget. Charlie was already pressed against her chest and Lili and Cole took a few more seconds just gazing at her before she had to be picked up to clean and weigh. She didn't think that pang of longing would hit her so fast but it did. Sweaty, exhausted, and completely exhilarated, Lili breathed out and picked up Cole's hand to press against her cheek. They were the luckiest parents in the world. "She's so beautiful," she spoke, still crying. "I can't believe we made somebody so beautiful."

Cole: was still on an adrenaline high from everything that had gone on in the past few minutes. Most of the day seemed to have dragged on but now it felt like it was all going at twice the speed. "Yeah she looks like you" She got her blonde hair from both her parents but Cole looked at Charlotte and all he could see was Lili in her. "I love you" He told Lili, bending down to kiss her gently after Charlie had been taken away. "And you're amazing" Part of him was still in a little disbelief that she was actually with them now.

Lili "I love you too," Lili whispered back and smiled against his mouth as he kissed her. The delivery had gone in the furthest direction than she had imagined but it had been incredible. Her body was so strong and she felt like an actual superhero having delivered Charlotte. There was nothing she couldn't do now, she'd never let herself doubt herself again. Watching as they cleaned their daughter and weighed her, Lili was practically ready to jump out of her skin to hold her again. She scooted over on the bed so Cole could sit down next to her and smiled as Charlie was placed in her arms again. "Hi angel," she spoke softly down to her. Charlotte's eyes were tightly shut but her lips were moving, petal shaped and perfect. She smoothed a finger over her forehead. "I'm so happy you're here. We've been waiting for you for a very long time."

Cole: moved onto the bed a little bit, being careful not to get tangled in any of the cords or IV lines that sorrounded Lili and watched as Charlotte was brought back over. She truly was beautiful and she was all theirs. He could barely believe it. Mostly in awe, Cole was content to watch her, fascinated by her every breath and movement she made. The pregnancy had been difficult and at times there had felt like there wasn't any end in sight but looking down at his daughter seemed to make all those moments worth it. "She really does look like you" he spoke to Lili holding one of Charlottes hands in his. Her fingers were small and long like little grains of rice and one of her hands barely fit around his finger.

Lili smiled as Cole pointed out the similarities Charlotte and her shared. She could see that they shared the same nose, but that was it so far. It was so weird to look down at somebody who you literally created. It was..surreal. She was so tiny but she was alive and healthy and just perfect. "Here," Lili gently eased Charlotte into Cole's arms. She didn't want to hog their daughter even though it physically broke her heart to be apart from her. "Oh, this is so amazing," Lili whispered at the sight. She wished she had a camera to photograph this but she had a feeling everyone would be coming in soon to get all the photos. "Your Daddy's got you, Charlie. Are you going to let us see those beautiful eyes?"

Cole: A part of Cole was tempted to tell Lili to keep Charlotte for the time being. It was illogical really because it was his daughter too and he wasn't about to put all of the responsibility on Lili but she was much smaller than he'd imagined and the thought of something happening to her while he was holding her was terrifying. Still he couldn't put it off forever and Cole took the bundle, being careful to note how he was holding her so she would be alright. "Hi cupcake" Cole wasn't really sure why that had been the first words out of his mouth. It wasn't like you planned what you were going to say to your child for the first time. She was small and pink and sweet though and so were cupcakes.

Lili didn't need to tell Cole how to hold Charlotte properly, he was doing everything perfectly. All those classes had paid off and Lili suspected that instinct was also at play here. She watched with a smile and peered her head over to see Charlotte calm and content in Cole's arms. Her lips were still puckered up, and she figured she had gone to sleep. It had certainly been an exhausting trip out into the world, Lili didn't blame her. Nurses came in and out and smiled themselves at the sweet sight. Lili knew they'd have to tell the name for the birth certificate and she knew Charlotte still needed to be fingerprinted and footprinted. She couldn't wait to hang those up in the nursery. "Do we have a name, guys?" A nurse smiled as she took Charlotte from Cole's arms. "Charlotte James Sprouse," Lili answered and rested her head against Cole's shoulder.

Cole: couldn't believe how calm Charlotte was. She had probably fallen asleep and Cole was grateful because it was less nerve wracking holding a baby that was content. It had been tiring for her too and she probably needed the rest. It was a weird feeling handing her over to the nurse but it was comforting that she was still in the same room as them. They could see everything that was going on with her and being ink stamped for her prints wasn't too bad. At least most of the medical side of tests had been done for right now and they'd be able to relax again. Cole wrapped his arm around Lili, kissing the top of her head as she spoke. The name fit her perfectly. "Should we call your Mom?"

Lili "Yes," Lili nodded. "And KJ and Mads. You know they'll be mad if we call anyone else first," she chuckled. She kept watching to see if the nurses were bringing their baby back, her arms itching to hold her once more. "Alright, Lili, we're just going to see if we can get you to pass your placenta and then clean you up," a nurse smiled at her as she came back into the room. "After that, we'll get you something to eat and you can rest with Charlotte. It'll be good for you guys to talk to her, hold her. We'll try breast feeding in a bit too."

Cole: "I told everyone important what was going on last night when you slept for a few hours so I think they're all just waiting to know she's arrived now" Cole told Lili, knowing she'd been asleep when he'd called everyone earlier. He pulled out his phone, moving back to the chair so that Lili could occupy the bed again but keeping one of his hands interwined with Lili's. They'd been through a lot together in the past 24 hours and Cole wasn't quite ready to let go of her completely yet. Once he'd called and confirmed that Lili's mom had landed and managed to settle all her things in at their place and was going to make her way over, Cole called everyone else "Hey Dylan" He spoke, keeping a careful eye on Charlotte with the nurses in the corner. "I'm a Dad" There was sense of finality to the words as Cole spoke them and as smile graced his face. Once everyone had been called, Cole put his phone away, happy to sit with Lili again.

  “Hi! My name is Agata from @TassonInteriors.  I’m so excited and grateful to be featured by Luciane on Home Bunch!  I’ve found so much inspiration here and it feels surreal to be featured among so many talented designers and homeowners.  

I started my career as a criminal prosecutor ten years ago.  When our daughter was born I took a break from law to enjoy these precious young years with her. During that time my husband and I started our third home renovation. Earlier this year I started an Instagram account to share our renovation, and my love for design. With the encouragement of family and friends I am now in the process of pursuing my longstanding passion for interior design and decorating as a career.

Our current home is the one featured here in these photos. My husband and I purchased this home as a new builder grade home.  We love the neighbourhood because it has an abundance of parks, new schools, young families, and it’s close to many amenities. We didn’t upgrade anything through the builder choosing instead to put our own stamp on the house which included full kitchen and bathroom renovations (our master bathroom is currently under construction).  I wanted a light, bright, airy, warm, casual and liveable home. Dining Room

I love having a separate dining room but we didn’t want anything too formal or fancy. We love to host family and friends, but our dining room isn’t just for special occasions. We eat dinner in our dining room every evening. It’s so important to me for our family to connect around the table at the end of the day.

These herringbone floors were a last minute decision which turned out to be our favourite feature of this room. We also added some millwork to give the white walls some interest.

   Butler’s Pantry

A butler’s pantry is located between the dining room and kitchen.

The wide plank European white oak floors are by far my favourite feature of this house. They add so much character and warmth to our home. They also give it the light and airy feel that I was after.

Glass doors give an airy feel to the butler’s pantry cabinetry.

Kitchen

This is our favourite space in our home.  I love the open floor plan kitchen and family room.  It’s where we spend most of our time preparing meals, playing, reading and enjoying our family time.   The back of our home is southwest facing so we enjoy a lot of natural light here. We eliminated the breakfast area and designed this custom kitchen opting for a large 9 x 4.5 foot island instead of a breakfast table.  I wanted the kitchen to feel modern and fresh yet timeless. The panelled fridge was a splurge but I absolutely love it.

Counterstools

I searched and searched for the perfect counter stools but ultimately I decided to stick with the ones that I already had.  Instead, with the help of Anne from Oakville Slipcovers I had slipcovers made from some beautiful striped fabric from Tonic Living.  I’m so happy with how they turned out!

Island Size – 4.5 feet by 9 feet

Family Room

I love the generous size of this room.  We opted for a sectional sofa to maximize seating.  We added a coffered ceiling to add some character and interest to this room, as well as to add some definition to the space. My husband built the shiplap wall above the fireplace.

This is a good way to place pillows on a sectional sofa.

Powder Room

The powder room was originally located between the kitchen and the dining room.  We relocated the powder room into the sunken laundry room. The original powder room was transformed into a walk-in pantry across from the butler’s pantry.  I love that the powder room is now in a more discrete spot.

I was really inspired by Luciane’s first Beautiful Homes of Instagram Home Bunch feature @JSHomeDesign’s powder room.  That’s where I found this beautiful Crown wallpaper and this honed marble herringbone tile. I designed this custom mirrored vanity and paired it with a durable quartz counter.

Pocket Doors (powder room) Another way we added custom charm to our cookie cutter build was to add pocket doors. They are such great space savers. (Hardware is by Emtek) (pocket door is in the powder room, between master bedroom and master bathroom & 2 master bedroom walk-in closets)

This playhouse under the stairs is always a favourite for all visitors both big and small.  It comes fully equipped with a play kitchen and a reading nook. The dutch door is kid favourite too!

  Happy new week, my friends! How wonderful it is to start this brand new week with you! May all of us have a Blessed and healthy week, filled with good vibes. Talking about good vibes, this “Beautiful Homes of Instagram” today is all about that! Agata, from @TassonInteriors, has a home that feels heavenly. Its neutral color palette combined with classic millwork exudes a timeless elegance that embraces you the moment you step inside.

Having Agata on the blog today is truly a great honor. She worked really hard on collecting all sources for this feature and even hired a photographer to share her home with you.   “Hi! My name is Agata from @TassonInteriors.  I’m so excited and grateful to be featured by Luciane on Home Bunch!  I’ve found so much inspiration here and it feels surreal to be featured among so many talented designers and homeowners.  

I started my career as a criminal prosecutor ten years ago.  When our daughter was born I took a break from law to enjoy these precious young years with her. During that time my husband and I started our third home renovation. Earlier this year I started an Instagram account to share our renovation, and my love for design. With the encouragement of family and friends I am now in the process of pursuing my longstanding passion for interior design and decorating as a career.

Our current home is the one featured here in these photos. My husband and I purchased this home as a new builder grade home.  We love the neighbourhood because it has an abundance of parks, new schools, young families, and it’s close to many amenities. We didn’t upgrade anything through the builder choosing instead to put our own stamp on the house which included full kitchen and bathroom renovations (our master bathroom is currently under construction).  I wanted a light, bright, airy, warm, casual and liveable home. Mirrored Doors

Mirrored Doors: I added these mirrored doors in our entrance hallway to make the space feel more open and airy. We love them so much that we also added them to our laundry closet. (source is Trim-lite)

Dining Room

I love having a separate dining room but we didn’t want anything too formal or fancy. We love to host family and friends, but our dining room isn’t just for special occasions. We eat dinner in our dining room every evening. It’s so important to me for our family to connect around the table at the end of the day.

Herringbone Flooring

These herringbone floors were a last minute decision which turned out to be our favourite feature of this room. We also added some millwork to give the white walls some interest.

Chandelier: Visual Comfort Co. hand -rubbed antique bras with clear glass.

Picture This!

Picture Frame Wainscoting: We added picture frame wainscoting to the dining room and the master bedroom. It gives both rooms a more elegant and custom feel.

Window Treatment

Drapes – custom made by family member (white linen fabric).

Chairs – Sears Canada (years ago) recently re-upholstered with Tonic Living fabric (Weston, Salt) painted by Paint it Like New – similar here.

   Butler’s Pantry

A butler’s pantry is located between the dining room and kitchen.

The wide plank European white oak floors are by far my favourite feature of this house. They add so much character and warmth to our home. They also give it the light and airy feel that I was after.

Cabinetry

Glass doors give an airy feel to the butler’s pantry cabinetry.

Kitchen

This is our favourite space in our home.  I love the open floor plan kitchen and family room.  It’s where we spend most of our time preparing meals, playing, reading and enjoying our family time.   The back of our home is southwest facing so we enjoy a lot of natural light here. We eliminated the breakfast area and designed this custom kitchen opting for a large 9 x 4.5 foot island instead of a breakfast table.  I wanted the kitchen to feel modern and fresh yet timeless. The panelled fridge was a splurge but I absolutely love it.

For the backsplash I opted for a very classic white bevelled 3 x 6 subway tile.  I didn’t want anything too busy or trendy. I love how the backsplash compliments the quartz counters without competing with them.

The wide plank European white oak floors are by far my favourite feature of this house. They add so much character and warmth to our home. They also give it the light and airy feel that I was after.

Flooring: 7.5 inch European white Oak made by Purparket unstained (sanded on site). Finished with a clear coat made by Loba – No stain used – similar here.

Master Bedroom

I wanted the master bedroom to be soothing and calming so I kept it all white.  Natural woods and whites are my favourite combination. This is a great space to retreat to after a long day.

Playhouse

This playhouse under the stairs is always a favourite for all visitors both big and small.  It comes fully equipped with a play kitchen and a reading nook. The dutch door is kid favourite too!
