Happy 92nd Birthday veteran Scottish actress Phyllida Law, born on May *8th 1932 in Glasgow.
Wiki has 8th July on the first line of their page on Phyllida, but on the side panel has May 8th, so who knows!?
There is very little about her early life except she was born in Glasgow, the daughter of Megsie “Meg” and William Law, a journalist. She said once of he Glasgow upbringing “When you grow up in Glasgow with a Glaswegian granny, you’re taught that pride is a wicked thing. I still feel a bit like that.“ Phyllida grew up in Glasgow’s west end, just off Great Western Road, but war broke out when she was just seven and she found herself evacuated to places such as Lenzie, in Dunbartonshire, and Skelmorlie, Ayrshire.
That gave her a love for the Scots countryside which means she now splits her life between her home in London and a family cottage in Argyll. Phyllida would fit in well with the Scottish & Proud ethos, in an interview she says:
“I’m passionate about my Scots heritage. How could I not be? I can’t live without it. There’s no way I could live without those hills and it’s got to be the west coast. “I sometimes travel to Edinburgh then go up to Pittenweem or somewhere and I think to myself, ‘This isn’t Scotland.’ It’s a wonderful coastline but it’s not Scotland for me.
“When my parents lived in Glasgow they were always looking for a cottage to which they could retire. They found one in Ardentinney, so I visit that a lot.
She joined the Bristol Old Vic in 1952, from what I can gather she was first in the wardrobe department, the first pic shows her standing, from a 1952 photo. Heron screen acting credits start in 1958 and are very extensive, the pick of them are Dixon of Dock Green and a stint as the storyteller in the great children’s show Jackanory in the 60’s. It must have been during her time in the BBC’s children’s TV department she met her husband to be The Magic Roundabout narrator Eric Thompson, She has previously stated that the character of Ermintrude the cow was modelled on her.
Angels in the 70’s and of course Taggart in the 80’s as well Thomson, the variety series hosted by actress Emma Thompson in 1988, Emma just happens to be her daughter. Heartbeat, Hamish Macbeth and Dangerfield in the 90’s, Waking the dead and Doctors in the noughties has kept her busy, now in her 86th year she has still been appearing on the small screen, in The Other Wife and New Tricks during the past 8 years. Film roles include She is known for her work on Much Ado About Nothing , The Time Machine and The Winter Guest.
Phyllida spends most of her time in Argyll in a house she shares with her daughter Emma. who is spending more time looking after her mother, as she was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2915.
Phyllida constantly needs the support of a wheelchair and even assistance when washing due to the effect the condition is having on her.
Due to the progressive nature of the condition, symptoms tend to gradually worsen over time. It is common for individuals to struggle both with walking and talking at the height of the condition.
Phyllida herself spoke about the burdens of looking after an infirm parent, she looked after her mother, Meg who suffered with Alzheimer’s disease. Mego died in 1994 aged 93 after almost 20 years of being cared for by Ms Law at her mother's home in the village of Ardentinny on the west coast, near Dunoon.
Emma said of her mother “Mum is quite lame so it's a case of taking her out in a wheelchair, and making sure she takes her medication. The meds are amazing."

The Beginning of a New Book | Chapter 13
Pairing: Bellish (Belle x Hamish Macbeth, from Hamish Macbeth)
Rating: E
Summary: After a dangerous breakup, Belle finds herself stuck in the little town of Lochdubh.
------------------------
Of course, Hamish had been the one to put the idea in her head, so he had no one but himself to blame for the scene before him.
When he’d dropped Lacey off at Esme’s, he’d mentioned offhand that the two of them should practice self-defense. That was it! And now, somehow, a mere three days later, he was standing in the school cafetorium, empty of all furniture except two tables pushed against a wall with coolers of water and a sea of exercise mats on the floor.
“They did a good job, didn’t they?” TV John asked, surveying the room like it was his kingdom. He wore a pair of sweatpants instead of his usual kilt. Everyone in the room wore exercise clothes. Rory had whipped out a terrycloth headband for the occasion.
“Can’t believe they pulled this together so quickly,” Hamish said.
“Oh, come on now, you’ve known Esme longer than that.” John locked his fingers together and stretched his arms out in front of him.
Hamish, still in full uniform, rubbed his forehead. He would have to change eventually, but he was still holding out hope that something would go wrong and this self-defense seminar that Esme and Lacey had thrown together would be canceled. He did not want to get up in front of everyone in the town and get his ass handed to him by TV John.

Hi! I'm Di (but you can also call me Spades), a twenty-something disaster head over heels for Rumbelle (and its variants), Anyelle and Anyem, as well as Robert Carlyle and Emilie De Ravin, of course.
I make gifs (most often), write fanfics and occasionally make fanvids/edits.
This is the blog I made as a place for all the content and all my love for Rumbelle (also Golden Lace, Woven Lace and Woven Beauty, I ship all four, they are all beautiful), Anyelle, Anyem and other works of Bobby and Em, with a side of other OUAT content, as well as my love for the cult 90s tv show Friends, which has become my comfort show, Chandler Bing and Mondler, my second favorite fictional couple after Rumbelle.
—
I ship most Anyelle/Anyem pairs, especially the following*:
Rushbelle (Nicholas Rush/Belle, my beloved ♥ Rush definitely needs a Belle as most of Bobby's characters do, to be quite honest)
Hamelle? MacBelle? what do we call these two cuties? (Hamish Macbeth/Belle, Hamish is one of the first roles of Bobby's I've seen other than Rumple and holds a dear place in my heart... and would also benefit greatly from having Belle in his life, even though I also ship him with Isobel)
Russelle (David Russell/Belle... also ship him with Hiero, because come on!)
Robelle? Morrelle? (Rob Morrison & Belle)
Bellix / Felle (Felix DeSouza/Belle... I also ship him with Hiero, guilty 😅)
Lachelle (Lachlan MacAldonich/Belle)
Sutherelle (Robert Sutherland/Belle)
Develle (Danny Devine/Belle also yes, ship him with Hiero )
Gazelle (Gary "Gaz" Schofield/Belle)
Wirrelle? Belleric? (Eric Wirral/Belle)
Macelle (Father MacAvoy/Belle)
Frankelle? Keanelle? (Frank Keane/Belle)
Plunkelle (Will Plunkett/Belle)
Renelle? (Renard/Belle...)
Although I've unexpectedly started consuming Bobby's filmography again a couple of days ago, so I feel like I might add a couple of ships in the near future 😁
(* I also ship almost every of the listed characters with Lacey)
—
I am ALWAYS O P E N to prompts for Rumbelle, any of its variants and any of the Anyelle/Anyem ships from this page, as well as Mondler, ficlets/moodboards!
I am ALWAYS O P E N to Rumbelle, any of its variants and any of the aforementioned Anyelle/Anyem ships, as well as Mondler, roleplay in Discord – just hit me up in DMs!
I am ALWAYS O P E N to screaming incoherently about our favorite characters/ships in DMs/Discord at 3 am and at any other godly and ungodly hour 😜
—
My main personal blog is @ace-of-spaders
My AO3: ace-of-spaders
My FFnet: Ace of Spaders (not Rumbelle updated yet)

I forgot to mention, in my Finlayposting, for the Robert Carlyle girlies, that the actor who plays the snobbish doctor-for-the-rich medical supervisor, is the one who played TV John McIver in Hamish Macbeth (and seeing him play such a different character here is interesting).

3, 16, and 20 for the end of year book ask, please!
What were your top five books of the year?
Fingersmith - Sarah Waters
Black England: Life Before Emancipation - Gretchen Gerzina
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo - Taylor Jenkins Reid
Fabulosa!: The Story of Polari, Britain’s Secret Gay Language - Paul Baker
It Came from the Closet: Queer Reflections on Horror - Joe Vallese (ed)
What is the most over-hyped book you read this year?
I don't think any of the books I didn't enjoy were particularly hyped? I guess Death of a Nag since there was a Hamish MacBeth TV series in the 90s
What was your most anticipated release? Did it meet your expectations?
Apprently the only book I read that came out this year was Camp Damascus, which I wasn't anticipating particularly but heard good things after it came out so picked it up from the local queer bookshop, and it definitely didn't disappoint

{ All my Ships and Connections for Belle}
1. Rumbelle:This ship is my OPT Rumple/Gold will always be my favorite character in Once upon a time. I ship these two for many reasons and they will always be my number one ship! ❤️
2. RushBelle: RushBelle is my Second all time favorite ship. I love the stories I've red where Belle and Nicholas Rush are Together. I feel that they can teach one another many things. Rush can teach Belle science and Belle can teach him what little she knows about magic.
3. SutherBelle: Belle and Prime Minster Robert Sutherland from Cobra. This is a new ship for me but I love SutherBelle! Belle being with the prime Minister? That would be interesting
4. DonBelle: Belle and Don Harris from 28 weeks later, he can be human or he can be part Zombie and part human. Example: He can have the virus but is unable to spread it to others. He can still think and do things for himself, he's just a 'tame' zombie who can feel emotions and talk. Either Don or Belle can be infected.
5. LachBelle: Belle and Lachlan from California Solo. Again this is a new ship for me but Maybe Belle goes to California or Scotland and meets Lachlan who is trying to get his life together.
6. Belleish: Belle and The small town Police Man Hamish Macbeth. I haven't done this ship before but I would like to. Maybe Belle can end up in Scotland for some reason and ends up meeting the very handsome and charming Hamish Macbeth.
7. Russbelle: Belle and David Russell a cop gone bad. This is another ship I've yet to do but I have some ideas for Belle and Russell. I can see Belle turning this mans life around.
8. Belle and Frank Keen: I don't know a ship name for them but maybe they can meet at a dance class or something.
9: Belle and Barney Thompson: Belle meets the demon barber of fleet street... Not really but somehow Belle meets the sweet miss understood man Barney Thompson.
10. Belle and Rob Morrison: This is a ship I've thought about doing but I'm not sure how to go about it. Since Flood is a old TV show and I've doubt many people have seen it.
11:WeaverBelle: detective Weaver and Belle. Belle somehow gets brought back to life and ends up being reunited with Rumple/Decective Weaver after years of being apart.
-----------------------------------
Possible ship Ideas:
Belle and Monroe from the movie Monroe class of 79
Belle and father McCoy from the Tournament
Belle and Shun from Summer. "I really want to do something with these two", Shun is so adorable! 🥺
Possibly Belle and Gaz from the full Monty-move and show is fine.
Belle and George from Carla's song
Colonel Ives and Belle from Ravenous (This ship I'm not to sure about due to how Ives is)
I may update this list later

books 110 & 203!
110. Death of a Village, M. C. Beaton - Ah, this was in the midst of my Hamish Macbeth spree, in which I read about 20 Hamish Macbeth mysteries in the month of June (and nothing else). This is book 18. Are they dazzlingly, incredibly good? Well, no! I did grow attached to village constable Hamish and the other larger-than-life Highland village characters, and there are some very funny moments - Beaton writes in beats that I feel like would go well on screen, which is funny because she apparently hated the Hamish Macbeth TV show (not sure if this provided any inspiration for book 14, Death of a Scriptwriter). Some of the antics get a little tired 18 books in. But they were good mindless reading for when I had very little mind to spare (i.e. June at summer camp).
203. Murder at the Polo Club, C. J. Archer - Another mystery series (predictably, at this point...). This is book 7 in the Cleopatra Fox mystery series. I went into book 1 a little skeptically, because I glanced at publication info and found that Archer self-published the 7 books in this series all between 2020-2023. But considering how quickly they must have been written and edited, they're good! (I later checked Archer's author website and found she's got several other series also ongoing, so I'm not sure when she sleeps!) Set in 1900, Cleopatra Fox is a young woman who just had to move in with her uncle and aunt at the fancy hotel they own in London. She's a poor relation, though they do give her money, so that lets her kind of befriend rich socialites and the servants at the hotel both, and she's a competent sleuth. None of the mysteries are incredibly complex, but they're engaging; and as of the end of this one, she just seems to have finally gotten together with her ongoing love interest, so I'll read book 8 when it comes out, if only to see what happens there!
(send my a number 1 - 206 and I'll tell you about a book I read in 2023! special bonus of I-don't-know-what if you manage to find one that's not a mystery, lol)

One of my favourite shows, Hamish Macbeth, has one episode that can only be found on live TV or streaming, and not dvd or video. AIUI, they didn't have the licencing for the West Side Story episode to be on video.
This is a great shame as it's an excellent episode and I need to work out how to rip it before I can't afford Amazon
you know how you can go and watch a movie you watched a bunch as a kid and the version of a song in it is different? like they actually changed it since you were a kid? that isn't normal. we didn't do that until like, the last ten years. it's fucked up.

Happy birthday Scottish actor Jimmy Yuill, born March 6th 1956 in Golspie, Sutherland.
Yuill is another of those Scottish actors that has been in an abundance of shows, and will be known, but not as a household name.Fans of the Crime drama series Wycliffe will know him best as DI Doug Kersey, in almost every episode, I will come back to that later.
Known mainly as an actor on the stage Jimmy began in 1976 in The Jesuit at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh. After, as he put it “some joyous years” working on new plays and classics countrywide he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) in 1983, as Snug in ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ and ended his time there, in 1987, as Young Wackford Squeers in Nicholas Nickleby on Broadway.
In 1988 he joined Kenneth Branagh’s Renaissance Theatre Company for Much Ado About Nothing, As You Like It and Hamlet directed by Judi Dench, Geraldine McEwan and Derek Jacobi, respectively. Also for RTC, Sicinius (Coriolanus); Telygin (Uncle Vanya) and Kent in Richard Brier’s ‘King Lear’.
Other roles include Toby Belch in Twelfth Night and as Henry IV parts1&2 at the Bristol Old Vic; In 2013 Jimmy played Banquo in ‘Macbeth’ at the Manchester International Festival and the following year at the Park Avenue Armory, New York. Most recently Jimmy played the Old Shepherd in The Winters Tale at the Garrick Theatre in London’s West End – both productions directed by Rob Ashford and Kenneth Branagh.
Jimmy Yuill, while always being busy treading the boards, has also found plenty time to appear in many TV shows, they include, in the 70’s The Mackinnons, The Omega Factor and the TV film A Sense of Freedom. in the 1980’s Eurocops and Boon and the 90’s mainly in Hamish Macbeth as Lachlan McCrae and the aforementioned Wycliffe. Into the new millennium he is a s busy as ever in the mini-series Monsignor Renard, A Touch of Frost and a recurring role in 14 episodes of Eastenders as Victor Brown an old frien of Ian Beales. Jimmy also appeared in several episodes of The Bill as D.S. Cottrell.
Yuill has had a longstanding friendship with Kenneth Branagh and has appeared in some of the Irish actor/directors films, including, Much Ado About Nothing, Frankenstien and As You Like It.
I said I would return to Wycliffe, where Jimmy starred in all but two episodes. The series was cancelled after that because Jack Shepherd, who played Wycliffe, refused to continue in the title role when the producers had sacked Yuill “for insurance reasons” after he contracted life-threatening meningitis during filming, and then would not reinstate him even though he made a full recovery. He says he owes his life to Shepherd with whom he was sharing a house while on location, and who rushed him to hospital in the middle of the night. Shepherd and the rest of the cast and crew felt so betrayed that they decided not to make any more episodes once filming of the current series had finished.
Along with Richard Briers he is one of only two actors other than Branagh himself, to appear in all five Shakespearean films that Branagh has directed: Yuill has worked as a performance consultant on a number of productions, and also as a producer.
More recently Jimmy has been in the movies Artemis Fowl , Kindred and my pick The Road Dance, which is set in The Outer Hebrides just before World War One. He also popped up in the Scottish dark comedy series Guilt, There are no pdates on his work in the past three years

The Beginning of a New Book | Chapter 3
Pairing: Bellish (Belle x Hamish Macbeth, from Hamish Macbeth)
Rating: E (Eventually)
Summary: After a dangerous breakup, Belle finds herself stuck in the little town of Lochdubh.
WARNING: This fic will contain major spoilers for season 2, episode 4 of Hamish MacBeth. It takes place shortly after that episode.
--------------------------
Goals
1. Get Esme to stop worrying. 1a. Make effort to leave house and do things other than climb rocks. 1b. Stop cleaning like a mad woman. 1c. Smile at Rory.
2. Make actual friends. 2a. Suggestion: Hamish (read: not his dog) 2b. Follow-up Suggestion: TV John
3. Learn to knit so that you aren’t wearing men’s flannel for the rest of your life.
4. Knit stylish hat. Why is it so cold in Lochdubh all the time?
5. Stop trying to drink vodka. You are in Scotland, and you do not need to be reminded of Sergei.
6. Become knowledgeable about whisky. 6a. Ask TV John to teach you. Or maybe Barney.
Belle had never kept a journal before, but when Rory had presented her with one, she felt obliged to write in it. It wasn’t so bad, except that when she thought about what she wanted to write, it mostly included tidbits about the rocks and strange patches of grass. Perhaps that had been Esme’s plan all along—have Rory get her something that would show her just how empty and sad her life had become.
