Gruß vom Krampus! 

December 5th is Krampusnacht, and I've done some pieces related to that over the years. This year I decided to update my depictions of Stan and Ford in the older two pieces (from 2016 and 2017 respectively), and to put the three all together. The original piece from 2016 was done for the 2017 Hunkles calendar (December of course), and the sequel was done for New Years the following year, with the final pic in the sequence appearing in Dec. 2020.

As I said in the original post, my version of the Krampus is based on looking at traditional folk costumes actually worn by krampus figures in Austria for the Krampusnacht festival.

And finally, just to keep it all in one place: after posting the 2020 piece, I got an ask about the little collection of Pines dolls that hang off of Krampus's basket in the second pic, and that Stan is holding in the last pic. I went into a long explanation (including an overview of the Krampus tradition and celebrations), so I'll put it below a cut here:

Okay so like… the explanation is probably kind of dumb.  And it’s me making stuff up, rather than relying completely on the actual folklore.

So the Krampus figure is actually a collection of figures from Central Europe, particularly in the Alps, and the specific traditions associated with the Krampus can vary from region to region and town to town.  Thus, while a set of the Krampus tropes have kind of been exported and caught on in popular culture, that pop culture figure now only resembles *some* Krampus traditions.  I don’t think it’s accurate to talk about “a” Krampus or “the” Krampus, exactly, because of that regional variation.  It’s also worth noting that Krampus celebrations are very much alive in various towns in the Alps.

Generally speaking, though, Krampus is a “wild man” figure, often with a demonic face (mask), a furry body, and goat-like features (especially horns). There are some theories that the basic figure itself is pre-Christian (like a lot of the wild-man traditions of Central and Northern Europe).  (I personally think that’s pretty plausible, given the range of costumes we see.)

After the advent of Christianity, though, the Krampus became associated with “the devil” or demonic figures.  And eventually, in a lot of traditions within the Central European mountain area, Krampus got paired with St. Nicholas, as a kind of tag-team.  St. Nicholas in those traditions is almost certainly one of the origins of Santa Claus, in that he rewards well-behaved children with presents.  (But, traditionally he dresses like a bishop, and not in the outfit that a lot of Americans are familiar with.)  The 6th of December is the Feast of St. Nicholas, so Krampusnacht (”Krampus night”) is the 5th of December.  And Krampus acts as the opposite of St. Nicholas – if presents are a means of encouraging good behavior, then Krampus is the threat used to discourage bad behavior.

So, some of the accreted trappings of the Krampus are a whip and a bundle of birch branches, for beating children / people, and a basket that he carries on his back, into which he puts the naughty children he finds, to carry them off for punishment.  (Obviously, the message there is: don’t be naughty or the Krampus will get you.)  A number of the Krampusnacht traditions involve men costumed as Krampus running wild through the streets, threatening people with their birch branches or whips and so on, making noise (thus all of the bells worn around the neck) and kind of terrorizing people (not just kids), as a set-up for St. Nicholas to come in the next day and reassert order.  (Sometimes it’s only “terrorizing” in an “all in good fun” sense, similar to Halloween scariness; but apparently in some towns, it can get kind of rough.)

So with all of that background… I was originally just looking for a sort of “crytpid” or monster for Stan and Ford to be fighting, with a December theme, for that 2017 calendar piece.  They are encountering more of a magical, “real monster” version (rather than the folkloric ritual version), and therefore I took some liberties with the idea, even though I incorporated a lot of design elements from a variety of real Krampus costumes.

I didn’t want to put any actual children into Krampus’s basket for Ford and Stan to rescue, though (in the original calendar piece, they wouldn’t have been that visible).  But when I did the second piece, I included the doll versions of the four Pines, hanging from Krampus’s basket, as a sort of… symbolic magical threat, an expression of the idea that the Pines are its supernatural targets.  The dolls act as kind of representations of Krampus’s targets, and I also thought of them, in that sense, as a darker reflection of the St. Nicholas gift-giving tradition (still toys, but toys with a sinister meaning). If Krampus was a “real” supernatural being that goes around punishing the “naughty” or “wicked”… then what is its definition of “wicked”, and would it be a fair one, or unfair? 

In this scenario, Stan and Ford are not in the mood to debate with it over whether it is fair to take them to task for being “naughty”, but they are DEFINITELY not going to stand for the idea that the Krampus might go after Dipper and Mabel, so – time to take it down!

A/N: Merry Christmas to all who celebrate and happy Thursday to anyone who doesn’t. Out of all the things I’d planned for this month, I wanted to make sure I got a Christmas edition for Quarantine Lovers up before Christmas. I hope you enjoy it! I hope you have the most magical day! 🎄

Summary: After Charlie had put out all the stops on Halloween, you figured it was your turn to do the same for this holiday. And though it was hard to get in the mood, it eventually all went according to plan, giving the both of you the most magical and safe Christmas time.

It’s December first and you didn’t feel the Christmas spirit in the slightest. While you would normally get all the decorations out on the first day of your favorite month, you couldn’t this year. There was not a bone in your body that even felt the smallest itch to get festive and decorate the house. You barely even acknowledged that it was, in fact, December already until you opened your laptop to start working on the script edits your supervisor sent you and the date stared  back at you on the screen, mocking you.  

“Why so glum, chum?” Charlie asked when he walked into the living room and saw you sitting on the couch with a pout on your face. 

An exasperated sigh left your body while your eyes met his. “It’s December already.” 

Charlie blinked at you with a deadpan expression on his face. “You figured that out by yourself? Good on ya, Sherlock,” he quipped as the expression made way for a smirk. 

“But I normally itch to get the decorations out on December first and now I just… don’t,” you retorted, shaking your head. “Stupid covid. Stupid 2020.” Charlie chuckled at your mumbling before making a beeline towards you to kiss you on the top of your head. 

“I’m sure it’s gonna come soon, my love. Don’t get your hopes up.” You looked up at him, eyes shimmering and filled with hope, silently praying he was right.  “Do you want anything from the grocery store?” he then asked. 

A grin crawled up to your cheeks as you cheekily replied, “Surprise me.” 

Before heading off, Charlie dipped down to peck you on the lips and caressed your cheek sweetly. Once he was out the door, silence fell over the apartment. You hated silence with a passion, so you decided to put on some music. Maybe some Christmas tunes could put you in the right mood. You had to try at least something, you figured. 

“Babyyyyyy” Charlie sang out when he’d returned. Glancing at the clock, you realized you’d been sitting on the couch for an hour, staring at the document filled with comments and notes and edits while Christmas music filled your ears, but not your heart. This almost made you want to cry until you saw what your boyfriend was holding out to you as he approached you. 

“You got me a chocolate advent calendar?” you asked with eyes shimmering and wide. 

He nodded his head, pressed a kiss to your head and then made a beeline to the kitchen, leaving you alone with your advent calendar to empty the other groceries in the pantry and fridge. “It was the very last one left, and I figured it would put you in the Christmas spirit.” 

Your eyes teared up at how thoughtful your boyfriend was. He always pulled off stuff like this so nonchalantly like it wasn’t the cutest thing in the whole entire world. Every day after Halloween, he’d just popped in with these cute little things that made your heart melt like ice cream in the hot summer sun. 

Putting the calendar and your laptop to the side, you got up and made your way towards your boyfriend, wrapping your arm around his waist from behind and pressing your cheek to his shoulder. A chuckle sent vibrations from his chest through your cheek, causing a smile to fall on your lips. 

“You gonna hang on there?” he then asked and started to walk towards the counter where the other groceries were sprawled out while you held onto his waist. “So, that’s a yes.” 

“Have I told you I love you yet today?” 

“About three times.” 

He turned around in your grip, now facing you with a smile hidden underneath that moustache of his. One you weren’t fond of at the beginning, but grown to love after a few days. “Have I told you I love you too?” 

“About three times,” you replied with a cheeky grin before hoisting yourself up to your tiptoes to kiss his lips. “I’m happy I got you.” His hands gently slid across your cheeks whilst his fingers combed back the loose strands of hair of your ponytail until his palms pressed onto your cheeks. 

“And I’m happy I got you.” He dipped down to kiss you again before the two of you tackled the rest of the groceries together. You loved these random, sickly adorable moments you shared. No matter how many times he told you he loved you, you still had to pinch yourself to make sure you weren’t dreaming. This entire past year had been completely wack. From meeting him at the start of the year to spending what sometimes seemed like an eternity in between the four walls of your apartment. Though, to be fair all you wanted with him was an eternity. 

“Wanna cuddle up and watch a Christmas movie with me?” he asked when the groceries were all in place and you and him made your way to the sofa where he plopped down. 

A pout pulled at your bottom lip as you grabbed your laptop again. “I really gotta finish these edits though. But you can watch one and I’ll just join you when I’m done, okay?” Charlie’s eyebrows knitted together as he watched you turn towards the door of the studio-slash-office-space with your eyes on your laptop screen. 

“Gimme kiss then before you go.” He stretched out his arms with grabby hands, making him look like a toddler who wanted a cuddle. You chuckled before leaning down and planting a passionate kiss on his lips as though it was the last one you’d ever share. 

“I’ll be back soon, my love,” you whispered dramatically before disappearing into the office. 

And soon meant really soon. With the faint sound of the Grinch in the background, you couldn’t seem to concentrate on any of the words. So, you decided to leave the edits for what they were for the day -- the deadline was still far enough away -- and join your boyfriend on the sofa. 

“That’s quick,” he noted when you reappeared in the living room. 

Snuggling up to him, you press a kiss to his jawline before speaking, “I can’t miss watching the Grinch with my favorite person ever, now can I?” A smile spread to his lips seconds before the two of you simultaneously pretended to gag mockingly. “Barf.”

“We’re disgusting,” he muttered, to which you agreed with a hum. You might be disgustingly cute, but you loved the dynamic the two of you had since the very genesis of this relationship. You were meant to be, no matter how cliché that sounded. After this year, you knew that for sure. 

The days slowly crawled by and they grew darker and colder, along with your Christmas heart. There was nothing you could do to make you feel festive this year, you thought. You’d tried many things; watching a Christmas movie, listening to some Christmas tunes. Nothing worked. Until you decided on December 21st, enough is enough, and did everything you possibly could at once. 

Or kind of, at least. 

You hauled out all your Christmas decoration boxes and put on your favorite Christmas movie, which was ELF, in the background. This ought to get you into the Christmas spirit. It just had to. This was your very last resort to get into the right mindset for the plans you have for Charlie in three days. 

“What are you doing, lovely?” Charlie’s voice sounded when he emerged from the bedroom. 

You grunted as you lifted the box on the table. “I’m done with feeling sorry for myself for not feeling very Christmassy. I’m gonna decorate with ELF on in the background and I’m gonna force Christmas onto myself.” 

Charlie’s laugh filled the air, and before you could turn around, he was already by your side, helping you sort through all the decorations you’d accumulated over the past two years you lived here. 

“Then I’m gonna help you force Christmas onto yourself.” You looked up at him and the burning sensation of your gaze on his cheek made his eyes meet yours. A smile landed on his lips as well as yours before you reached up and kissed his lips chastely. 

For the next few hours, the two of you spent Christmasifying the entire apartment. With the tree all decked out and lights everywhere, the Christmas-shaped hole in your heart was filled with Christmas cheer. You couldn’t wait until the twenty-fourth when you had planned the most magical evening, all unbeknownst to Charlie. 

On the morning of the twenty-fourth, you sneaked out of bed, careful not to wake Charlie, and made a beeline towards the kitchen. You felt giddy. Giddy about your favorite holiday and giddy about the surprise you had up your sleeve for Charlie today. 

First, you wanted to make him the greatest Christmas breakfast you could. You started on the French toast, you squeezed some fresh orange juice and then sliced some fruit. All while humming along to the radio that was softly playing Christmas tunes in the background.

This month had been a whole rollercoaster of emotions. All you really wanted was to have that perfect first Christmas with Charlie, but thanks to covid, those plans seemed to slip through your fingers. Firstly, you didn’t feel half as Christmassy as you do other years, and secondly, you couldn’t do any of the fun Christmas activities that made everything so festive. The Christmas markets in New Brunswick were all cancelled and you couldn’t see any of your friends and family.

Despite all those setbacks, you still made it your mission to make this first Christmas with a boyfriend like Charlie the most memorable one ever. You had told Charlie you were going to go visit your parents as they had a fire pit in their garden you could stand around and keep warm while also staying safe, which wasn’t a lie. You just weren’t going to spend the night with your parents as they were in Nova Scotia to visit some family. There was a bigger, better plan that laid below that thin layer of a white lie. 

It made you giddy just thinking about it. 

“Merry Christmas, my lovely,” Charlie’s voice called out, making you jump slightly as you were too caught up into the thoughts about your plans. 

Smiling widely, you said, “Merry Christmas, mister ‘stache,” and leaned up to peck him on the lips once he was beside you. “I hope you're hungry, because I think I made breakfast for the entire neighborhood.” 

“This looks delicious.” 

“You look delicious.” 

Charlie chuckled and pecked your cheek before starting to help out with some stuff until it was finally time for you to eat. With Christmas tunes blaring and the two of you either singing along or talking about anything and everything, you ate the deliciously prepared breakfast. Up to the point where neither of you would even fit in your jeans anymore. 

You loved being in quarantine with Charlie. Though you were together all the time, it had never been harsh on your relationship. Sure, you bickered sometimes and you both needed your space every now and then. But you always felt it when the other needed that space and you’d respect it. The two of you were just perfect for one another, and living together during the year a pandemic broke out globally was a big test for your relationship but the fact you made it through to December without once breaking up or wanting to kill one another, had to mean something. 

Everything was just perfect. Especially this day. It was so calm and serene to play board games and watch Christmas movies together. It was the first day of the month you truly felt Christmassy. Charlie was the perfect calming influence on you, and made you forget all about the nerves about the big surprise tonight.  

Until you finally made it to your parents’ house. Then, your heart began to pound in your chest. You were so nervous to pull off this surprise. It had to be perfect. As perfect as the Halloween surprise he pulled on you two months ago. 

“Where are your parents?” he asked when you stepped inside the dark and cold house. 

You smirked and grabbed his hand, pulling him into the living room. “Well, they’re not here,” you admitted whilst grabbing the remote and turning on the tv on which you had put the surprise video from his friends. “But they are.” You pressed play and a piano filled the big screen. Madison’s fingers glided across the keys, creating a beautiful tune before her angelic voice filled up the living room while her face appeared on the screen with that gorgeous smile of hers on her face. 

“Have yourself a merry little Christmas Let your heart be light From now on our troubles will be Out of sight”

Then the screen switched to six different little squares with one friend in each of them, except for the one Jeremy and Carolynn were in together. The boy in the middle square with the long blonde locks continued singing. 

“Have yourself a merry little Christmas Make the yule-tide gay From now on our troubles will be Miles away”

Then Jeremy’s voice mingled with Owen’s, creating a gorgeous harmony together while Charlie’s arms wrapped around your shoulders from behind, resting his chin on your shoulder to watch the video in awe of his talented friends. 

“Here we are as in olden days Happy golden days of yore”

Then Savannah’s voice came through and mingled with the boys’. 

“Faithful friends who are dear to us Gather near to us once more”

Jeremy took over again with Jadah beautifully harmonizing this time. 

“Through the years, we all will be together If the Fates allow Hang a shining star upon the highest bow And have yourself a little merry Christmas now”

During the musical intermezzo, they screen cut to Owen on his drums softly drumming along while Madison continued playing the piano. The entire video gave off the cutest and most Christmassy vibe ever. And even though they weren’t together, it still felt like they were. 

On the last chorus, Tori and Carolynn even chimed in, and all seven of them sang together. 

“Faithful friends who are dear to us Will be near to us once more Through the years, we all will be together If the Fates allow Hang a shining star upon above the highest bow And have yourself a little merry Christmas now”

All of them smiled at the camera and yelled, “Merry Christmas, Charlie!” 

You turned to your boyfriend then to find him holding back tears. “They weren’t that bad!” you said teasingly, causing him to chuckle before letting you go and wiping away the escaped tears. 

“It was amazing. We have some talented friends, don’t we?” 

A smirk curled your lips on one corner as you thought about said talented friends. “Mmh,” you mumbled before taking a hold of his hand again and leading him towards the big glass door on your left, the one that led into the garden.  

“That was actually our plan B in case plan A would fail because of covid….” you started while outside the orange and red flames flickered in the dark night sky, showing the silhouettes of five people around the fire pit. “But they put so much effort into plan B, that I didn’t not wanna use to sooooo…” you dragged out the ‘so’ and lifted your hand for a few raps on the glass. 

The five people around the fire turned towards the house, masks hiding most of their faces as they waved at the two of you inside. Looking up at Charlie, you found him staring at the people outside, mouth ajar and eyes wide and watery. 

“No, you didn’t,” he mumbled before averting his eyes from his friends to you. He scanned your face as though trying to figure out whether you were serious or all of this was an elaborate joke. 

“Yes, I did.” You handed him a face mask and held out the hand sanitizer, knowing that if you wore masks and sanitized, you could hug your friends. “You went all out on Halloween for me, bubba. I wanted to do the same for you on Christmas.” 

He held out his hands for you to sanitize after he’d put his mask on and after you’d done that, you slid the glass door open and made your way into the cold with Charlie in tow. The closer you got to the fire, the more you felt the warm flood from the flames and the giddier you became because you were going to see Charlie’s friends for the first time in real life. 

“The fuck, dude?!” Charlie exclaimed as he wrapped his arms around Owen and Jeremy at the same time. Your heart melted at the scene of the boys reuniting after such a long time of not seeing each other in real life. 

“Thank you guys for coming,” you said as you made your way around the girls, hugging all three of them, and once that round was done, Charlie had let go of the boys and allowed you to hug them whilst he said hello to the girls. 

“Where are Madi and Jadah?” he then asked, noticing they were a few friends out. 

“They had plans with their family and they couldn’t fly out by themselves,” Jeremy explained as the masks went off and they distanced a little bit more around the fire. 

Charlie nodded his head as he wrapped an arm around you, pulling you into his thick coated body. “This is such an amazing surprise. Thanks for doing this, guys.” 

Owen held his hands up in defense while Carolynn spoke, “You gotta thank your girl. She’s the one who put all of this together.” 

“Yeah, all of this was her idea,” Tori chimed in. And as all eyes landed on you, you felt your cheeks heat up. Though you had talked to each and every one of these people via text or facetime, it still all felt kind of new and you got nervous around new people easily. 

Charlie turned to you and pressed a kiss to your temple, making you look up at him shyly. “You’re amazing, you know that?” Instead of letting you answer that question, he pressed his lips down on yours passionately. The wolf-whistles and cheers the kiss earned from your friends made you giggle against his lips. 

“I’m gonna get the food,” you then said, patting Charlie’s chest. The three girls followed you to help out and when you got back, Charlie was already playing songs on his guitar with the boys singing ridiculous Christmas songs. Tonight was going to be amazing, you could already tell. 

And it was. You had so much fun with Charlie’s friends that you’d forgotten how cold it actually was outside. Though it wasn’t what you’d dreamed of for your first Christmas with Charlie, it was more than perfect. If every holiday would be this way, you would be perfectly fine in Quarantine for longer with your lover.

I have 42 works on AO3 across 2 pseuds! That being said, one of my pseuds is for podfics only (all but one of which are podfics of my own works); the number of works on my main account where I keep all of the written versions of my fics is 33.

Only one, and it's Glee. I may or may not branch out in the future, only time will tell ;)

what are your top 5 fics by kudos?

It Was Only a Kiss (582 kudos). I think this absolutely deserves to be my top fic, in my opinion. It's my longest work, and it's the piece I worked on the longest, and poured the most of my love into. I'm very very proud of this one. Though, fair warning, it is an anti-Blaine Kurtbastian fic, so to my Klaine followers: you probably don't want to read it. But that's okay. Because lots of other people already have lmao

I Want the World to See You'll Be With Me (116 kudos). A sweet Kurtbastian one-shot I wrote as a Christmas present to @unhappyending last year. I'm surprised to see it so high, because I'm not really a fluff writer and this is unmistakably fluff, but... I guess the Kurtbastian fans love them some fluff!

Notes of an Old Mistake (96 kudos). It's Kurtbastian, it's angst, it's porn with plot! I feel like this fic is one of the most me things I've ever posted, which is interested since it was a gift to @pouralittlewater and very much based on what she wanted written. Guess we have similar tastes!

A Rush of Blood to the Head (76 kudos). The first pwp I ever posted, a Kurtbastian vampire!Sebastian halloween one-shot. Iconic of that to be this far up the list honestly.

The Hazards of Love 1 (68 kudos). This fic is what really got me in to writing. It's ~50k words, my second-longest fic to date, and it means a lot to me. There are some things in it that I'm iffy about, but also some scenes that I really, really love, and are very dear to my heart. When I started posting it, I didn't think anyway would read it because of the premise. Apparently I was wrong.

do you respond to comments, why or why not?

Yes. I always respond to the first comment someone leaves on any of my fics, or any chapter of one of my fics, if it's a main comment. what’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

This is an easy tie between He Forgets Me, He Forgets Me Not and Never Ask For Anyone But You (a birthday gift for @unhappyending), both of which end with the death of one of the main characters; in the first, the final scene is a funeral where it's revealed that the character has died, and in the second, the actual scene where the death occurs is described (though it could be left up to interpretation whether the character actually does pass away).

do you write crossovers? if so what is the craziest one you’ve written?

I do not, but I have an idea for one that I might eventually write...

have you ever received hate on a fic?

I received a hateful review on FFN once, but it was clearly spam. Other than that, the closest I've gotten to hate has been someone asking me to go a different direction with a fic after I had already made my intentions clear; if that's the worst I have to deal with, I am very happy. Especially since there are a lot of things I write about that some people may have a problem with lol

do you write smut? if so what kind?

Girl yes. I've already linked 3 explicit fics in this post lmao who am I if not a smut writer?

have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not to my knowledge!

have you ever had a fic translated?

I haven't! I'd love to translate my own fics into French though. I think that would be cool. My French is not good enough unfortunately, but maybe someday if I ever make an effort to improve it.

have you ever co-written a fic before?

I have! Last Christmas @unhappyending and I (KC you're getting tagged A LOT in this post lol sorry) co-wrote the Kurtbastian 2020 Advent Calendar. We posted one chapter per day starting on December first and leading all the way up to Christmas Day (inclusive). It was a lot of work, but also a lot of fun! I also recorded the podfic :)

what’s your all time favourite ship?

Kurtbastian. I'm a huge multi-shipper, as we all know, but Kurtbastian is where my heart truly lies.

what’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow. This was originally a one-shot for @blangstydays, and then I decided to write another chapter, and now it's sitting there as a WIP on AO3 and I never think about it and will probably never finish it. Oops, sorry.

what are your writing strengths?

I think my biggest strengths are a) dialogue, and b) describing a character's internal thoughts/logic/whatever. These are kind of tied together; essentially, I just think I'm good at getting into the character's head and really being able to put into words what they would think and say in a way that feels authentic to them.

what are your writing weaknesses?

Right now my biggest weakness is having the motivation to write. But when I do have the motivation, my biggest weakness is probably transitioning between scenes, or scenes that don't feature much dialogue. I'm just... not the best at describing things, imo. I also don't think I'm great at scenes with a lot of people; I don't know what to do with all of them, and even if I do, I can have a hard time getting into the heads of that many different people for the same scene.

what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I think I've written maybe a few words in French, but only because I know a little bit of the language. I wouldn't write anything substantial in another language unless I had someone who knew that language and was willing to proof-read it for me. In general, I don't think I have an issue with it. I'd have to translate it if I was reading it in a fic. I don't know, it's not something I've given much thought to.

what’s your favourite fic you’ve written?

The answer to this is easily It Was Only a Kiss. I have some other one-shots that have a special place in my heart, by IWOAK will forever and always be my baby, and I am so glad she gets the love she deserves in the form of hits/kudos/comments <3

Summary: First snowfall of the winter

Day Three: Careless

It was fitting that the first snowfall of the year in New York City was on Black Friday. Like Mother Nature herself was proclaiming the Thanksgiving Holiday officially over. The couple had hosted both of their families this year in their new apartment. Both sets of parents were staying in a nearby hotel and Finn had volunteered to sleep on the couch for the weekend while Cooper set up a cot in the living room. It was nice having his stepbrother and brother-in-law for the holiday and hilarious to find them snoring in the living room each morning. Finn was an even later riser than Cooper, who needed his beauty rest. 

Kurt and Blaine were up bright and earlier that morning to shop with the crowds. By noon, they were finished enjoying a third cup of coffee in Central Park. A group of children were building a snow fort not too far from them while another set were stockpiling snowballs. Clearly, they were preparing for a snowball war. 

Other people who were enjoying the park made sure to give the kids a wide perimeter. 

“So careless like nothing else in the world matters but snowball fighting,” Blaine said.  

“Um Blaine, hate to break it to you,” Kurt replied, “but snowball fights are the most important thing in the world right now.” 

Blaine laughed.

They continued watching the kids until the fight started. Luckily, their bench was out of reach of hurling snowballs. 

Unprompted, Kurt broke their silence with a bomb of a statement: “I want a baby.”

Blaine almost spit out his coffee. “What?” 

Kurt turns to face his husband, “babies, I want one.” 

“You do?” 

“Yeah,” he admitted, “I’ve been thinking about it since Halloween.” 

“And you didn’t say anything?” Blaine asked.

So, 2020, amirite? Surprisingly, turned out not as creatively barren for me as it seemed. I published 24 fics, including two longfics and two collaborations, as well as two tiny original drabbles. Together, I published over 84,880 words this year, which, I’d say, is pretty neat.

A Matter of Heart and Mind - dean x cas | 32109 words; M Cut off from Heaven after closing the Gates, Castiel becomes human. But to Dean, he also becomes something else—something Dean couldn’t admit to himself until now: the love of his life. The feelings are reciprocated and, for a while, things are good. Until the headaches begin. In true Winchester fashion, Cas pretends he’s fine until he can pretend no more. In true Dean fashion, Dean’s worried. Because the headaches might be something more than a migraine. Whether it’s a human sickness or something of a more angelic nature, they have to figure it out before Cas’s time runs out.

In The Empty - dean x cas; cas & benny | 1152 words; G The Empty promised Castiel sleep. An endless, peaceful slumber. So why are Cas’s eyes open?

One Last Dance - dean x cas; cas x kelly | 2637 words; T This is not how Dean imagined Castiel's wedding. They were supposed to be standing at the altar together, then dance the whole night through. But Cas made his choice and now, the only thing Dean wants is one last dance.

The Samhain Feast w/ @kitmistry - dean x cas | 5840 words; T The end of the harvest. The one day the veil between our world and the otherworld is thinnest. The day when a witch coming of age can try summoning and binding a familiar. The Samhain Feast is a tradition so ancient, no one remembers how it started. Dean has attended every single one of them since he was old enough to walk, watching witches meeting their familiars and bonding with them. This year, it's his turn to make an offering. And hope one of the familiars chooses him.

Winchester's Haunted House w/ @kitmistry - dean x cas | 3417 words; T For the Halloween evening, Dean turns his new home into a haunted house for neighboring kids. But once all the guests are gone, is when the real haunting begins.

Tunnel - dean x cas | 13567 words; E An injury during a hasty job makes Dean, Sam and Cas split up in the underground tunnels. Confused and trapped in a maze of walls that seem to shift at the will of something evil, Dean's frantically searching for his loved ones.

When he finds himself at Lisa's door, he's covered in dirt and blood, with a collection of new scars and a bushy beard hiding the uncertainty on his face—a whole year away is a damn long time. But his fears melt away when Lisa welcomes him with all the love she can give and, with her tender touch and a lot of soap, helps him feel that he's safe again. He's home.

Gotham’s 31 Most Wanted - Opening & Rules

I had a lot of fun this past October doing my “31 Days of Disney Villainy” Halloween Advent Calendar – where I counted down my 31 Favorite Disney Villains, talking about a different one for each day of October, working through the ranks all the way to my all time favorite on Halloween itself. So, I decided…why not do something like that again, just for fun, and for a different occasion? Now, if you know me (and I assume you do, if you’re reading this), you know that right alongside Disney Villains, if there’s one overall gallery of bad guys I love above all else, it’s Batman Villains. And as it turns out, 2021 looks like it’s going to be a pretty good year (potentially) for Batman-related media and, by extension, the villains of the Caped Crusader. So, to help ring in the new year, and bid farewell to 2020 and all of its craziness (which we’re still feeling, to be fair; it’s going to be a while before we reach true normalcy), I decided to do the same thing for them I did for Disney’s Villains, and do it in January. There are four rules for this countdown….

1.     I obviously have to be at least somewhat familiar with (and obviously LIKE) the villains in question; some of the more obscure villains, like the Trigger Twins or Great White Shark (yeah, I bet a lot of you don’t even know who they are, right?) are characters I’ve HEARD about, but I’m not at all familiar with. I basically know they exist, and that’s about it. I have to have had EXPERIENCE with the characters, in some way.|

2.     I won’t be including villains who are essentially “crossover antagonists;” these are villains who really belong to another hero’s rogues gallery, but Batman HAS faced them several times. For instance, Lex Luthor has encountered Batman on many occasions, but I doubt ANYBODY would call him a Batman Villain anymore than they would call the Joker a Superman villain. Now, I WILL be including THREE characters of that sort in the Honorable Mentions, and I’ll explain why when we get to that, and on the list itself there will be one…SEMI-exception? Sort of? I’ll explain when we get there. XD

3.     The choices have to be well-established in comics. They don’t necessarily have to be introduced there (Harley Quinn, anybody?) but they have to be well-set there. They can’t be characters like, say, Max Schreck from “Batman Returns,” or if you want to get REALLY old-school, Dr. Daka from the 1940s Batman serial. They’re original to their own source material, and haven’t really migrated to comics at all.

4.     Finally, I won’t be counting Gotham’s gangsters. Characters like Carmine Falcone, Sal Maroni, and Rupert Thorne aren’t bad antagonists, but when fans think of “Batman Villains,” we’re usually not talking about the mobsters. We’re talking about the supervillains; characters like Joker, Catwoman, Two-Face, Poison Ivy, and so on. And there are PLENTY of those types of villains to choose from, so we’ll keep focused on them. With all this in mind, tomorrow, on New Year’s Eve, just like I did with the Disney Villains back in October, I will make a post of my Honorable Mentions: a Terrible Ten (as opposed to Unlucky Seven) who ALMOST made the cut, but didn’t quite manage it. Then, at midnight, as New Year’s Day starts, the countdown shall properly begin. ;)
