can't sleep and i'm really thinking of kendrick lamar's half time performance. absolutely amazing, first. second, if u didn't like it, that's bc it was actually aimed at you🙃 now onto me yapping about it:)
as someone that wanted to major in fashion design, let me say this: the outfits were so so good. simple, but they proved a point. also, there was so much symbolism and political commentary that the outfits did not need to be all that (also lots of talent there but that's a discussion for another time). the colors, the fact that everyone had a different styling of their outfit but it was all still cohesive, kendrick's outfit, sza's outfit, samuel l jackson's outfit. it all ate. honestly, not much to say about the outfits outside of that and that i loved it bc most of my thoughts are centered around the performance itself
as a musician and wannabe artist: the whole thing was so thought through. you could tell kendrick was doing it to get a point across but it wasn't like 'oh he's just trying to prove a point' yk. the stage, the outfits, the choreography and formations, samuel l jackson as uncle sam and his commentary throughout. like, there was so much going on (not like chaotic or bad though) that all had a reason to be there and was all cohesive. and the sza feature omg wonderful. she's so beautiful and her voice just scratches such an itch in my brain. serena williams crip walking. kendrick's absolutely giddy smile when going "say drake." the censorship (which i was honestly expecting for the most part)
i could go on about this single performance actually and i hope we discuss it in my class that's about music as a political device :3. i wish i could yap more but i wanna watch it again so i can analyze it more and i should be asleep rn so the words aren't wording in my brain. but i'm hoping to get a chance soon to yap about it more:)
tldr: absolutely amazing everything about that performance, and as someone that was bored during usher's performance, was absolutely blown away/pos during this one

Super Bowl Halftime Star who Displayed Sudanese-Palestinian Flag Escapes Legal Repercussions
Unexpected Protest at Super Bowl Halftime Show During the recent Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans, a moment of protest caught the attention of millions. A performer, part of Kendrick Lamar’s large ensemble, displayed a flag combining the colors of Sudan and Palestine, stirring discussions about social justice and humanitarian issues currently affecting these regions. The incident occurred…

Fun fact for superbowl enjoyers! Kendrick Lamar hates Jews almost as much as Kanye does, he just doesn't use Hitler to do so!

Rihanna performing All of the Lights?
I found it extremely interesting that Rihanna decided to perform all of the lights as well as run this town last night despite all of the controversy surrounding Kanye recently. I was perusing other social media sites last night and saw that she wasn't even credited on All of the Lights on Spotify despite delivering a pivotal performance in the song. I was glad to get to hear it last night nonetheless!

It's Halftime
I’m not gonna lie and say that I’ve watched every Super Bowl Half-time performance since the 80’s, because I haven’t. I do remember watching Michael Jackson in 1993, but after the Raiders and the Rams left LA between 1994 and 1995, the NFL lost me. At that time my mother shifted my attention to Dodger games and Laker games at The Forum. The next few halftime performances I remember watching…

When my uncle told me this morning that he didn't like Kendrick's performance, I knew straight away that he didn't understand it. Kendrick was sending a message that went over soooo many people's heads. The events of the show I'm going to state that happened aren't entirely in order but if you look back on the performance, you'll see what I mean.
Think. It stars off with Samuel L. acting as Uncle Sam, a character symbolizing America as a whole. He starts off saying, "Welcome to the great American game." We see that the entire stage looks like a game controller, meaning Kendrick was playing a game and Uncle Sam was there to see if he was playing it correctly, the "American" way. When Kendrick raps at the start, we see people exiting the car and they're all separated (just like the people of America). They eventually come together to form the flag because WE, the people, are America. Kendrick also says, "The revolution is about to be televised, you got the right time but the wrong guy."
Uncle Sam says something along the lines of "Oh, so you decided to bring your friends with you. Culture cheat code. Score Keeper! Deduct one life." There's a shot of all the dancers falling to the floor, acting as though they're dead, yet a few people are still up. Almost like they're part of an "inner circle." Uncle Sam also makes a statement about how America doesn't wanna see this loud rapping, "it's too loud", "too reckless" and " too ghetto." When he starts singing and Sza joins him, Uncle Sam goes, "That's what America wants to see. Nice and calm. Don't mess this up". Except, Kendrick does mess it up by going back to rapping loud and fast. "40 acres and a mule", Those are the things that were promised to us black people as reparations for slavery, "- this is bigger than the music" The message he'strying to send to yall is what really matters. But nobody is trying to hear him! "Yeah, they tried to rig the game, but you can't fake influence."
And with ending the performance with "tv off" the camera turns to a lit background in the crowd saying GAME OVER. The game is over, he didn't play it like Uncle Sam/America wanted him to. This was bigger than some beef with Drake.
