the only thing I could think of when Rihanna's singing Umbrella at the halftime show is that one lip sync thing Tom Holland did lmao

40k in 42 days, day 23
Tumblr media
Hello writerly friends!
Oh dear, I have fallen so very much behind. I had a great, long weekend in Berlin, went to an amazing concert, sweated my ass off, walked until my feet burned, and did no writing. The WIP currently sits at 54,797 words, which means I have written 15,684 words during these 23 days. Which isn't all too bad, I think.
I'm not quite where I wanted to be at this point, but it's not like I laid down and gave up after the first week. Considering that from April to July, my monthly wordcount was under 10k and for August, I'm already at 21,866 words, I think I'm doing pretty fucking well. (Now if you have an eye for numbers, I know what you're thinking: "How can she be at 21k if she only wrote 15k for the WIP?" Because sometimes I'm taking a break from the orgfic with some low pressure fanfic writing.)
We're at half time with this project, a good time to reflect on how we're all doing and how our process works. Did you try anything new? Did you build a habit?
I can say that the morning writing experiment has mixed results and has definitely not turned into a habit, so far. I don't really like it, but it produces results. And a strange effect is that when I return to the thing in the afternoon, I seem to get back into it quicker. Even though the morning writing feels like wading through molasses, the words coming so slowly, it sets the stage for more writing later in the day. That's a connection I did not expect.
One thing I noticed about myself is that I see the story much clearer now. This may be a result of just having more words, knowing the characters better through words, but I also feel more secure in the story. I found my theme, I found the message I want to convey.
How about you? I would love to see some reflection at this half-point. How do you feel? Forget the actual numbers, how do you feel about your story? Has it changed? Have you changed? Did you find a new perspective? Did you find a new habit with your writing?

I say the biggest disappointment of the super bowl was the lack of a Tom Holland lip-syncing to Rhianna’s umbrella
