kaoru wasn't exactly the best at taking care of others, especially someone with such a specific condition. still, you could tell he was trying his best.

kaoru's known to panic a little when you ask him for help. chances are, he wouldn't know what to do and you'd probably have to explain it to him, even if you're on your last dying breath. not that he wouldn't try to help before that, too.

he regularly carries you around places. it's a lot faster and he has less to worry about if you're with him the whole time. most notably, he often takes you to the infirmary with him.

adonis already knows what to do. he's done enough research before, even going as far as to ask rei a bunch of questions to help him figure out what to do.

he's known to carry you around places, too, because he feels bad leaving you all by yourself, even if you're going to be okay.

if it's a particularly hot day, adonis will likely bring water and an umbrella along, though after making sure that it's what you need and won't just be an extra inconvenience (not that he'd mind either way).

he takes great care to be around you at all times. he wants nothing more than to make sure you're safe, because you are his top priority as his significant other.

adonis sends you letters sometimes. he's not good with tech, and although he's very determined to keep learning, he has settled on checking up on you through letters. you don't need to respond, they're just small reminder to take care of yourself and not do anything stupid.

i'll prefix this by saying that koga isn't too sure what he's doing either, but he's mostly following your instructions.

that being said, he likely wouldn't do anything for you if you didn't ask it directly. he cares, but he isn't sure what help is necessary or at all wanted. he'll only step up if he notices you're actively harming yourself.

he did not like asking for help from rei in order to understand what was going on, and he didn't want to embarrass himself around you, either, which is why he went on online forums instead.

that being said, he has been of great help. with how quickly he comes to your aid and how, albeit gradually, learns to understand you and how to help you.

This is a reference to Wanted!!! Bridal actually takes place a week-ish after Wanted!!! and is directly tied to that story. So, I recommend reading that one first!

Here, Eichi says something along the lines of “remember when I said that I always repay my debts?” but, in the translation of Wanted!!! I read, Eichi says “If you're going to show me around the arcade, I'll be in your debt, and my principle is to repay them quickly.” I thought it'd make more sense for Eichi to say he repays his debts quickly rather than just repaying them in general since he’s giving this to Kaoru like a week after the arcade visit. Plus, it’s just a silly reference to the first story!

Sandstorm - Pointless Death Game: Chapter 8

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ< A few more days later. “SS” Qualifying Round, middle phase. >

Kaoru: (This is getting…)

(Pretty depressing. I can’t really tell what day it is anymore, but we should’ve reached the middle point of “SS” right now.)

(The qualifying round is going on for a month which means around half of it would be spent in the desert.)

(I’m worried it’s gonna be like this until the end. Don’t tell me our “SS” experience is gonna end with us wandering aimlessly in the desert for days and days?)

(No. In the worst-case scenario, we might be here for the rest of our lives…)

(No, that’s definitely not gonna happen. It’s too much. But it’s scary that I can’t exactly deny it…)

(I’ve managed to come up with some guesses as to what the management might be thinking in all this, but I have no way of knowing if it’s right or not.)

(The more I think about it, the more depressed I get and the other idols have started staying inside the “Oasis” recently like us.)

(And I don’t feel like moving since it feels like everything might be futile no matter what I do.)

I did find it kinda annoying in the past, but it all depends on how you look at it – it’s just like a ray of sunshine, it can be a blessing.

I finally realised that and there’s no point in responding to their kindness with resentment.

We’re still just inexperienced kids who cannot get by in the world without reaching out and relying on someone else.

But it was arrogant of me to think we were capable of living on “our own”, huh.

I started feeling bad for the people who broke their hearts for us. Our dad, our master, our friends, our seniors…

Our staff and fans… We’re only able to shine because of the light given to us by so many people.

It can’t be helped if you say that light is nothing compared to the others. It’s our fault because we didn’t fully accept the light and stood with our backs against it.

Kaoru: Hmm… You’re matured, Hinata-kun.

This is you and Hinata-kun’s problem, so I can’t act as the backseat driver and solve it for you guys.

Yuuta: Even then, it’s a big help just to have you hear me out. …Well, I’m aware that we’re the ones who keep drawing the line and keeping everyone from getting involved in “our problem”.

When you have an experience like that as a kid, it can be pretty traumatizing.

Yuuta: Are you a father with a daughter who’s going through puberty or something?

Kaoru: Well, to be honest with you, my older sister had an experience like that.

Seemed like she got pretty hurt by some mean comment someone made about her—so she didn’t really put much effort into dressing up until I started poking my nose in her business.

All her beauty was just going to waste. That, and I was mad at that person who said something so cruel to her.

Yuuta: Ahaha. I feel like you’re more obsessed with your sister than I thought, huh, Hakaze-senpai?

Kaoru: I think getting angry is normal when someone in your family has been hurt.

Well, maybe there’s a small chance that the person who made that mean comment could be me… Being the dumb kid that I was, I didn’t think anything of it…

I’ll just sound like an idiot if it comes back to bite me, so I’ll stop the rant here.

Yuuta: Ah~, I understand. Our father was like that too—probably.

If only we could have pretended to be the perfect, idealized version of ourselves all the time, but that’s hard no matter how good we are at it.

Well, I’ll leave that aside. My brother Hinata-kun’s a person of good character, so if they could only choose one of us to go on, he would definitely be the one to back down from the offer.

Kaoru: Ah, yeah. I know from listening to you vent time after time that he’s always been like that.

Yuuta: Hmm… Eden works separately as Adam and Eve all the time, so maybe that was why he didn’t think much of it.

Or maybe it was just a simple process of elimination. Aside from us, Valkyrie, and Crazy:B, no other unit has the power and influence needed to make an appearance on that program.

Kaoru: Ahhh… It’d be impossible to make a situation like that change to fit your will—it’s much too risky.

Yuuta: Yes. Also, ever since Bogie Time, the Vice Prez has gotten annoyed over the members of Eden taking jobs without him knowing.

So, I guess in the whole cycle of taking turns, this opportunity found its final stop with us.

Kaoru: Or maybe he just came to the decision that you two would be able to handle it well?

Yuuta: I hope that’s the case, but… No, you’re right, I think that's probably it. The Vice Prez isn’t one to let his own feelings cloud his judgment.

He just felt wholly confident in our skills as idols, and entrusted the job to us.

So that’s just why I’ve got to change.

Kaoru: ? You said you were thinking of trying to change your look, but why? You mean like, when you start high school and try to become a completely different person, or something?

I think that’ll actually be more pathetic, if anything else, so please don’t~ I’m experienced here, so take it from me.

Yuuta: Ahaha. Hakaze-senpai, did you do that when you started high school?

In hindsight, I was a late bloomer—that was my rebellious phase, you know?

You guys are still young, so I think it’s fine for you to try different things without passing too much judgment on yourself.

That made me sound like an old man, didn’t it? I guess that’s just the result of all the wining and dining I’ve been doing with people in the industry.

Yuuta: Hmm… It’s not really the case where I’m thinking of buying a brand new set of clothes or tearing down my personality and building it anew in preparation for a big performance. It might be something I’ll have to do eventually, but that’s not the point.

It was 2wink that they asked to perform. If my looks are too uncharacteristic of 2wink, it’s inevitable that they’ll—that they should—choose Hinata-kun to perform.

That’s what I was thinking, so I was trying a ton of different ways to change my look. But it isn’t going anywhere—I still like how we look.

Besides, if I did that, I’d be making Hinata-kun give into what I want just to be thoughtful. I’ve always hated when he does that to me.

Kaoru: Mhm. Don't do unto others what you don't want done unto you.

…I used to hate it when all those high-and-mighty seniors of mine would tell me what to do, and now I’m doing the exact same thing… Just turn a blind eye, okay?

Yuuta: Ahaha. But that’s hard for me to do~. The things we remember the most are the things that other people have done to us, after all.

We end up doing the same thing to others without even being aware of it—it’s like our actions have been perfectly symmetrical.

Kaoru: Yeah. And that’s why things like bullying and war will never go away. It’s a structural flaw—all humans have it.

Yuuta: War—

I see; maybe we should go to war. We have to decide for ourselves; we won’t leave the responsibility to judge us to other people.

That would be much more fitting for us.

Kaoru: ? What do you mean?

Yuuta: We could never even get into a fight, because Hinata-kun would just hold back and give up—we’ve never been able to have a clear winner or loser.

But this is a great opportunity to try, and it might be nice for us to go head to head in a fight for once. It’s an old tradition that none of us Yumenosaki kids can be proud of—to fight head to head like that and see the resolution in black and white—isn’t it?

" kaoru adds, feeling that this somehow brought more validity to his cause. of course, he's looking off to the side now, awkwardly running his fingers through his sunny blonde hair all the while. Somehow, gazing down at the frayed white ribbon in his hand, its other half blown beyond his reach, Souma is just a little sad about it.  There’s hardly any reason for it; hair ties break, and that’s simply a fact of life.  This isn’t the first, and will not be the last.  It hadn’t come out of nowhere, either-- he’d known it was coming for a while now.  Typically, he’d have already swapped it out for a new one by now to prevent this very scenario.

His odd sense of wistfulness must have shown on his face-- that, or Kaoru’s just offering to be helpful, or just because he can.  Souma’s gaze snaps up to meet those warm, light brown eyes, a slight tilt of his head a sure sign that he’s more confused than offended.  Before he can ask any of the questions that spring to mind, however, the taller man speaks up again.

(It’s just as well-- Souma realizes he likely would have declined on principle alone without those few extra moments of consideration.)

❝I am capable of braiding my own hair,❞ he answers coolly, as though it’s a matter of pride.  But even he notices that Kaoru seems a bit embarrassed, and so his tone manages not to be too sharp.  He’s offered a little bit of himself, and Souma can’t help but be charmed by it, despite himself.

❝..Yet, I would not mind the help,❞ he concedes, tucking the little scrap of ribbon into his pocket.  He can recognize an olive branch when it’s offered, and it can’t do any harm to let him try.

kaoru (falling in love) headcanons!

Kaoru wonders — someone new — where they could be: his lover, once and for all. He knows better than to chat up one. It doesn't even make his face light up. Coquetry used to, to be exact, but nowadays, courage and words fail him. His heart is racing. 

How did he go from a silver-tongued "lounge lizard" — thanks Souma — to a tongue-tied, well, man? (It's a) hope against hope, looking unkindly upon him. If not, then vim and vigor hang around. If so, another story. His palms are sweaty. 

He "grew up," in other words, until his eyes fell on you. His spirits rose for some (strange) reason, and the offing turns silver soon. What does he do? He dreams away as someone steps out of the shower, a touch of redolence on their neck. Are you someone new? He wonders. His face flushes. 

Undead is aware: Rei gibes, Koga sneers, and Adonis tries to lend a hand. Does it go in vain? Not intrinsically, but he wants something new. An old friend (the lucky devil) stays one jump ahead. They know from experience that his true feelings aren't "ostensible." 

His feelings, his emotions, run the gamut. What did you do to him? His spur-of-the-moment dream can very well become a not-so-dreamlike reality! He dreamed up a date at the offing. Imagine cattleyas on his sun-kissed skin. He could go dancing that second, waves breaking in LEDs! Someone looks for him — it's you. 

The tide will come, but it won't wash away all the scars. Despite himself, Kaoru's heart awakened after an endless slumber. When the stars above — someone new — started swirling, the answer waited for him. It's fiery: he had a feeling your love was destiny. You're someone new, except this time, Kaoru doesn't wonder. He knows.

POOR THING HE PROBABLY GETS SO FLUSTERED WHEN HIS S/O IS REALLY AFFECTIONATE WITH HIM

he doesn’t really know how to react to physical affection other than laughing nervously and trying his best to reciprocate his affection

tsukasa tends to be weary when giving physical affection; he is a gentleman, after all, and doesn’t want to cross lines with his s/o

he doesn’t mind you doting on him at all— to be honest he’d pretty glad his s/o is the way he is, since he’s far too shy to take many first steps in a relationship

he thinks your nicknames for him are super cute and likes it when you call him any variation of his given name

pet names other than his actual name make him really flustered, especially if you use them in public

even common pet names like babe, sweetheart, and honey are enough to make him blush like an idiot

his unitmates tease him about his relationship all the time which just makes his embarrassment that much worse

kaoru absolutely adores the way you show affection or the nicknames you give him

he’s super prideful with his pet names and wears them like a badge of honor

he’s gotten used to you calling him a pet name/nickname, so when you address him by anything else he panics just a bit

HE’D THINK HE DID SOMETHING WRONG 

ALL THAT’S GOING THROUGH HIS HEAD IS “ah i fucked up”

he doesn’t like anyone else calling him the names that only you really call him

not even the romantic ones, like shortened versions of his name that you made up for him

same applies vice versa— he doesn’t like other people calling you the nicknames he gives you

you showing affection to kaoru only results in him flirting with you two times harder

he isn’t super easy to fluster but he definitely knows all your weaknesses and what makes you turn bright red

he loves spending time with you and can be equally, if not more, affectionate

he thinks you being really affectionate/clingy is so adorable 

he isn’t used to being doted on in the way that he usually dotes on other people

he feels really appreciated and happy when he spends time with you

rei’s the type to want to do everything with his s/o, even if it’s just relaxing at home

he really likes when you initiate physical affection unexpectedly 

his nicknames for you would be more on the teasing side 

his favorite/most common pet names that he uses for you are darling, my love, and sweetheart can’t stand his dumbass

he’ll almost exclusively call you those, especially around other people/other friends

rei’s pretty big on pda so he gets so excited and happy when you call him pet names in public

when you get all affectionate and touchy-feely around his unitmates, koga starts bitching and complaining

“get a room you two, god” -koga probably

“if two you are just gonna flirt the whole time, can i at least get in on it?”   -kaoru probably
