Some looking back and some rounding up
So, a while ago I did a selection of series I was watching this simulcast season. And some other stuff. Here are my updated thoughts on several of them - plus more other stuff! Yay, other stuff!
...
Dead Dead Demons DeDeDe Destruction
I can say I'm interested where the series is going, but there are two factors stopping me. Following an unfolding catastrophe by itself would already be a downer. But particularly this year, I am really not inclined to watch scenes of cutesy aliens being brutally murdered over and over. First I banned the series from watching at mealtimes, but now, with 11 episodes already watched, I haven't picked it up in quite some time.

2.5 Dimensional Seduction
Turned out exactly as I expected it to be - an enjoyable watch all in all, a cute collection of blushing included. I find two downsides with the season:
Unrequited love interest / girl #2 was absent from half the season in spite of being spotlighted in the credits. My guess she was a bit of a filler right from the start, but seldom has a character been sidelined so hard. When she reappeared at the end I actually found she had grown as a character, being some necessary counter-pole to the airhead main girl. (Sorry Ririsa, but your commonsense is entirely absent. The total focus on Ririsa is less surprising when you know (only) her name is in the Japanese title, though.)

There were... probably two... episodes that were almost entirely composed of internal dialogue that was highly repetitive and stretched out far too long. Yada yada I love all cosplayers. Change of heart. It was tiresome. There's a limit to how much internal dialogue is good in this kind of anime.
I had fun, though.
Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines
I thought this would become a harem comedy or at least have some harem vibes, given the narrator-protagonist we follow around is a dude surrounded by girls with widely differing hairstyles and personalities (and he actually tries to help them all).
I'm gladly surprised how much time this show takes to actually follow along the three titular losing heroines, though. It seems to be very willing to explore their struggles - first with their respective love interests, but now also expanding into shy bookworm's struggle to find friendship, acceptance, and a place in the world she can trust.
GIF by senjo
This focus is reflected in the credits sections which vary and focus on the girl currently taking the spotlight. Bonus: The show has some great music.
I still think that inevitably the protagonist's kindness will lead to a second round of falling-in-love trouble, especially given that girl-who-never-stops-snacking seems to already fill the girlfriend role in most aspects.
Still, loving the attention to characters, emotional scenes, some drama, and it being outright charming, funny, and delightful - this is so hard to wait for each week!
Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian
Ended up watching it, and it's a fun diversion. It actually works quite well as anime!
I still think the MC and his sister are absolute jerks when it comes to pranks. And the time he spent in Russia is even more sidelined than in the light novels.
Pseudo Harem
Now for an entry I picked up late. The basic premise is easy - there's a girl named Rin with a crush on her Senpai in drama club. To overplay her cowardice and blatantly flirt with him she invents a series of characters she portrays based on tropes/stereotypes (Imp-chan, Tsundere-chan, Cool-chan, etc) that her Senpai is absolutely enthralled with - so it becomes their own private thing (and probably a bit of a love language).
It surely helps the character is the most adorable little thing ever and voiced by the same voice actress as Yor in "Spy x Family", lending her this particular quality that is a bit timid and easily lured into blushing embarrassment.
The only downside I see to this series that can make you seriously go "Squeeee!" is that it overly focuses on only two characters and hence is more like a gag-comedy manga in terms of plot than an unfolding story (though it has elements of both). The anime certainly transports the whole thing way better than the original manga which I sampled at random before the show was picked up but I found a bit lacking.
Not sure why Senpai and his family (at least his mom) have constant "I lack sleep" eyes...
Days with my Stepsister
In hindsight, a chore with nothing much happening. Girl who is a loner who only relies on herself becomes stepsibling with boy who is a loner who detaches himself from everything. They fall in love.
Which is what you see mostly not happening for a dozen episodes as you watch them asking themselves questions and denying their feelings. And lots of inner monologue.
(Can't find a GIF for this under the English or Japanese title, so tumblr seems to have spoken...)
The show aims for an elegic, nostalgic quality, but it sometimes feels just slow. It is better, though, than shows that stall the plot with over-the-top drama. I watched it to end, after all. The end of the season is such that I find it hard to relate to her as a character, given how he discovered her feelings way before him. (I get that this is a heavy conflict for her, though.)
Side characters are almost entirely sidelined and mostly there to further what little plot there is between the main couple. And it wins the prize for the worst way to draw eyes in female characters, I thought at times she was having a mascara accident when it turned out it was still part of the eye.
Solo Leveling
Didn't expect that one, huh? I was rather annoyed by the hype, as I sometimes am, and had a preconceived bias about what the show is, well, about.
So glad to be wrong!!
The premise is much better than anticipated. Instead of this being about a game, it's about events unfolding that have game-like characteristics underneath. Except the protagonist is the only one to find that out after many years of this going on and hence in a unique position to improve his station in life - though through a very risky, painful means.
The show is well-paced and gorgeous in general, though also gory and overly dramatic. It pulls it off so well, you're on the edge of your seat rather often. And it manages to pull you in for the ride first.
The main criticism I have of this one is that the human side of the MC is... too passionate, focused, and a bit unconvincing. Come on! There is this girl desperate to go out with you but you're not only too consumed in feeling like a loser to take her up on it when you're failing, you still have no clue when you're succeeding! I don't buy into this level of onesidedness. (I guess the "hero" is destined to be with the ice queen we see portrayed so often. But season 1 has zero contact between them and they live in completely different worlds.)
A very harsh show, gore-wise, and more than a tad cruel. Be prepared.
Haganai - I Don't Have Many Friends
It's hard to have an opinion on this one. I read on in the manga because the show leaves off somewhere in the middle. And I must say, it really really has flawed characters - and displays them in all their misconceptions.
At one point I thought I almost got it - when the manga turned against the whole "rumor" and "reading the mood" and the mood turning on people culture. It was nasty how the group-think blamed one girl for the fact a dude had a stupid crush for her instead of the other girl. Of course she contributed to it - not through encouraging the dude like she was accused of (so she was essentially slut-shamed, I guess), but because her response was so horribly tone-deaf as well.
But when you read the defense her friend conjures on the spot, it's no better. So is the author himself horribly tone-deaf or is he meaning to portray characters that are so strongly flawed? I couldn't decide.
There's more of this - like the male lead thinking this girl attracting so much attention and supposedly super smart (but lacking any commonsense) is some sort of goddess. It's hard to tell if that is his flawed thinking or partially the author's? Because she's very flawed, and in turn the anime constantly makes fun of her - including playing a "moo" sound whenever she runs towards someone because, you know... dare I say it? Cow udders.
So it's a flawed show with a desperate amount of fan service and flawed characters, but I was still interested in where these characters would go. And it can be quite funny and/or sweet at times. It doesn't exactly inspire me to read the light novels, though.
My First Girlfriend Is a Gal
Now here's an anime that had some issues that had little to do with the actual story. Boy asks gal out on a dare and she actually accepts - apparently she had a secret crush? Whatever gets the ball rolling.
What the show does make clear is that she as a person/character is very different from the hyper-sexualized image some guys seem to have of gyarus. It actually mostly is a sweet and rather harmless romance with typical anime hijinks - let's go to the onsen (hot springs), MC gets to see her in a yukata, etc. And in this regard the show does fine.
However, the anime version specifically is turning what probably were very short scenes in the mind of the MC into long "censored" sequences, entertaining - at length! - the exact same mindset the character herself so noticeably disproves. While I only started reading the manga picking up at some point towards the end of the show, I don't see the same there. It nowhere takes as much focus. It's clearly a device the anime makers seem to have come up with.
I also have failed to find so far the story arc the show's only season ended on. The whole late story arc was so confusing in the end, not even I was sure what was supposed to happen between them versus what happened. It was a whole lot of "you should have known better" and "I'm disappointed in you" that I couldn't quite follow.
If you look past the blatant "sex sells" treatment the anime got, you find a nice enough story mixed with very silly and unrealistic hijinks. Not exactly destined for greatness, but it's worthwhile (and quite long-running, actually).
My Stepmom's Daughter Is My Ex
While I'm watching shows I originally had no interest in, this one turned out to be quite decent. The setup is interesting - boy and girl have a middle school romance between nerdy loners that breaks up when they can't cope with change and the communication needed to keep the relationship up. Shortly after the breakup his dad marries her mother, with neither knowing they used to date.
The show varies between different territories. On the one hand it plays with the lingering feelings, especially hers towards him. A lot of the show's humor and premise is based on this, and frankly, it's quite sweet.
What sold me in the show much more, however, is the introduction of a third character into the equation. Another girl who loves the boy - but most of all she treasures the friendship and connection she has with him - more so than "having to have him" or "being the only one." She just is happy to connect to this person - and a romantic relationship would be a bonus.
First the other girls think she is naive and hasn't admitted her feelings. But in the end, her take on emotions, feelings, and love is more mature than frankly most people's (in the show or outside of it) - including the mother of the newly formed family. Her character seems entirely believable and is an interesting expansion of what characters exist in these kinds of stories. She's also a wonderful combination between clueless and having a deep understanding of what love actually is. Brilliant!
The show then proceeds to portray as much the failed relationship as their current one, highlighting the need for personal growth and going beyond the past. The middle school romance isn't portrayed much at first, but as its realities are laid open, we understand how much of the current situation is rooted in them having been socially inept people - or simply kids growing up.
While doing all of this it's a lighthearted show full of banter and little silly situations, and people trying to guess each other's true motivations and feelings. Which makes it a really good take on the premise.

list and review of animes with gyaru characters that i watched!
(i'll be adding more over time, and i won't use tags because some reviews will be negative)
My Dress-Up Darling
i loved the design of Marin and her as a character. unfortunately, there is a lot of fanservice in some scenes (• ᴖ •) i think that is the only negative part in my opinion
i found the characters very believable and that we have other conflicts in history too, i felt chemistry between the two too, it was a cool romance to watch
i liked that Wakana is not a pervert creep cliché (it was a big relief for me lmao), and i loved so much him having an interest outside the norm and unfortunately being repressed because of it, i was able to identify with him in that part
Hajimete no Gal
Oh my. 20 minutes has never been so long in my life. it was torturous! (•᷄ࡇ•᷅)
i hated the protagonist's friends, they are unfunny and creeps. the plot is very weak, i don't know if there will be more plot later and i will never know because i could only watch the first episode. i didn't like the artstyle and the character designs are very ugly in my opinion. apart from the sexualization of Yukana's design, she was the only design that I found beautiful

8 years of awful politicized english localizations in games and anime
I hate how they insert stuff that wasnt in the original ( I hope that the tsukihime remake wont censor certain things I do not care if its too edgy etc
they bring up
The English localization of Hajimete no Gal was tampered with to include internet lingo while insulting light novel readers, and as can be expected, this isn’t what was said in the original Japanese version:
and bring up the scene from kobayashi dragon maid which is infamous for inserting the line about patriarchial ge
they should have kept
they should have let soleil s supports remain the same rather then pushing their moral views on games. there is nothing that can justify this.
from what I looked up this is the original translation
Saizou: That’s… this injury has become part of my body. If it were to be healed, it would change me irrevocably. Besides, scars hold a different meaning for men than they do for women.
Aqua: You are… being somewhat of a chauvinist, right?
Saizou: I… won’t deny that. However, seeing that scar of yours made me want to take responsibility for you.
The localization team behind Trails of Cold Steel III previously admitted to censoring dialogue on a livestream:
Trails
of Cold Steel 3‘s English translation was absolutely abysmal:
they should have just kept the lines themselves the same it does make sense for western audience they would understand them fans want the lines to be translated so we can read the same story that japan audience reads. We dont want the lines/sense of the story/scenes to be changed
western audience would get what the comment is.
If the joke was reliant on knowledge of japanese society like the jokes in bobobo manga ( which is the reason why the jokes needed to be changed) it would be different
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War removed dialogue concerning a character smelling like semen in the subtitled Disney Plus version, and also removed it in the English dub.

Uncensored anime shows aren’t necessarily rare, but it can be depending on the type of anime we’re talking about. The types of anime that have been banned or censored over the years are: Ecchi. Shounen. Supernatural. Mecha. Action. And any genres relating to, or connected to the ones I’ve already mentioned (like fantasy). Even though that can change based on which country the anime airs in, as a general rule the anime in this post have avoided censorship. Either because it wasn’t possible, companies refused to air it, or otherwise. Let’s talk about it! 1. Hajimete No Gal Let’s start off by saying this: Hajimete No Galisn’t the best Ecchi anime series in the slightest. Or “school” anime. The comedy, the jokes, the fan service, and the ethics have no bounds. An example of this is one character who’s perversion is taken to extremes, making you do a double take or even a triple take. Despite these elements in this typical Harem/Ecchi style of anime, it received no censorship or anything of the sort…. As a general rule. Then again, it wasn’t the most popular anime and isn’t exactly a franchise either. Related:15+ Guilty Pleasure Anime You Wouldn’t Want Parents Knowing About 2. Haganai Haganai: I Don’t Have Many Friends is an anime with a lot going on. It’s a school anime that tackles loneliness and not having any friends. The main characters start “the neighbours club” to tackle this issue and make more friends with a safe space. The anime also is Ecchi and doesn’t shy away from fan service, booty shots, or other elements that censorship tends to target. It also tackles bullying and manages to merge these themes without collapsing on itself (comedy as well). It’s considered underrated by many. 3. Mirai Nikki Mirai Nikki is an anime with the most popular Yandere of all time: Yuno Gasai. She’s a teenager with a messed up childhood involving abuse and an unhealthy home environment. This is the catalyst for her behaviour in the anime, the violence, the lengths she’s willing to go to, and even the uncensored scenes overall. It’s a psychological series mixing survival of the fittest elements with straight up brutality, savagery, twisted romance, and satisfying amounts of action with mystery. 4. Ishuzoku Reviewers Ishuzoku Reviewers, also known as “Interspecies Reviewers” is an anime about brothels. Each brothel has a unique set of monster girls. The main male characters travel to these brothels, get down and dirty with the girls, and then leave a personal review after their session. This is the main plot that stays consistent throughout this adult series. Companies like Funimation got their hands on it, but couldn’t find ways to censor it. So they ditched it all together. As a result, the anime mostly has one version and hasn’t been changed drastically. Relevant:10+ Anime Shows That May Disgust Outsiders 5. Food Wars Food Wars is successful for a good reason: it brings something NEW to the table of Shounen, Ecchi, and food anime. As the characters taste test gorgeous looking food, they experience “foodgasms” and it’s animated to the point of perfection. It’s a work of art, and hilarious as well. The anime doesn’t discriminate. Men, women, they both get the same treatment and it actually enhances the anime’s overall quality and plot style. Purely uncensored to top it all off! 6. Seitokai Yakuindomo Seitokai Yakuindomo is the type of anime that “censors” certain scenes deliberately, to make a moment more comedic or effective. So it’s not that type of censorship. The anime is about the student council members in a school that’s gone from an all-girls to also having boys. Shino Amakusa and Shichijou aria are the “trolls” of this anime. Sarcastically twisting words to make them seem erotic, sexual, or inappropriate. The fact that it doesn’t rely or even need fan service to make a point is an art in itself. It’s underrated in the slice of life genre. Relevant:10+ Of The BEST Anime Like Seitokai Yakuindomo 7. How NOT To Summon A Demon Lord An anime about an Otaku who ends up in the world of his favorite game, playing as the ultimate demon lord himself. That’s the premise of this Isekai/Ecchi series. As his journey begins, Diablo indirectly builds his harem, and the fan service isn’t shy about jumping to extremes either. In fact, it’s the kind of Ecchi anime you DON’T want to be caught watching. It’s a step further than many comparable shows in that department. Related:18 Of The WORST Anime You’d Be Crazy To Watch With Parents 8. Peach Boy Riverside Peach Boy Riverside is an anime that aired July 2021. It’s actually made by the same author as Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid! In this world, there are high level ogres and ogres of all kinds. Tree ogres, human-looking ogres with horns, and more. 2 characters with peach powers (the main characters) rival their strength, and the story follows Sally’s journey to unite them to stop the fights between them. The anime doesn’t hold anything back with its violence, savage fights, action or otherwise. In fact, the fights are well done visually, making it an entertaining Shounen, unlike many others. 9. Fairy Tail This anime is about the Fairy Tail guild, and the adventures of its guild members in Fiore. Fairy Tail is interesting when it comes to uncensored anime shows. It doesn’t seem like one that comes to mind but it is. The fan service speaks for itself. When does Fairy Tail NOT hold back when showing skin of its male or female characters? In a way, it’s a borderline Ecchi series but not quite. Even if the fan service can be excessive at times. The action itself was never made to be violent or brutal, but more importantly: nothing is edited or cut out so it’s legit. 10. Sankarea: Undying Love Sankarea: Undying Love is an Ecchi series that fly’s under the radar a bit. It’s a unique one. Chihiro, one of the MC’S, is obsessed with zombies. It’s to the point where he wants a zombie girlfriend and he won’t have it any other way. He gets his wish but by accident. And in the process, he ends up reviving his dead cat which becomes a zombie. The romance between Rea and Chihiro, Rea’s family connection and her sicko father…. There’s a lot of weirdness to this anime, and even disturbing themes. For a short series though it’s well put together, just a little on the short side. 11. Claymore Claymore is another anime that flies under the radar a bit these days. But it is still recognized and a popular anime no doubt. Made by Madhouse studios, Claymore is a term used for female fighters who are half human, half demon. They’re paid for their work by a mysterious organization. That work involves slaying full blooded demons called Yoma. The underbelly of this anime is cruel and depressing. The action, at times, results in depressing moments for the main characters. The violence, the cruelty, you can expect all of it, even the ugly parts of it to be there without any sort of censorship. 12. Monogatari This is an anime with Ecchi, Vampires, supernatural elements and romance. Monogatari gets away with things most anime wouldn’t dare to include. It’s an oddball of a series, but that’s not surprising. Why? The studio is SHAFT. They’re known for their weird anime shows. Weird, but with the kind of high quality comparable shows can’t vouch for. The plot is diverse, it changes a lot depending on the character of focus, and the visuals look stunning from start to finish. The famous toothbrush scene made me CRINGE harder than anything I’ve seen in an anime, but it’s an example of what I meant when I implied the anime is daring. 13. Redo Of Healer Redo Of Healer is about revenge at the highest level, and in the darkest way you can imagine. After being abused, tortured, r*ped and manipulated for years, Keyaru develops a resistance to the drugs he’s forced to take. And eventually resets time. His purpose is to redo everything and get revenge against his oppressor who happens to be a woman who seems innocent. The anime did have a censored version, but there was an uncensored version aired with it. And it doesn’t matter which one you watch anyway. In the end they’re both “almost” the same, and are equally as blunt. Whether it be action, violence, or sex scenes. 14. High School DxD High School DxD is about demon girls and a lucky guy who gets to be around them. You might as well call it that. It’s unsurprising to know the anime is littered with fan service (it’s Ecchi) but it tends to take it a step further than comparable shows. Being the king of Ecchi, or the Ecchi almost everyone thinks of when they reference the genre, it’s only right that the anime is uncensored, unfiltered, raw, and uncut. It’s perfect for fans looking for this type of material. 15. World’s End Harem World’s End Harem is another unfiltered, raw, and uncut anime for 2021 that’s Ecchi like Redo Of Healer. Mankind is dying out. Most men have been wiped out by a virus. Men are given the task of getting women PREGNANT to repopulate. The mission is to get the numbers back up at any cost. A conveniently sounding plot it might seem, but the anime isn’t shy about it or trying to hide it. It might not win any awards in 2021 for ratings, reviews, or otherwise, but the anime is spot on for what it serves and for who wants to be served by it. 16. Shimoneta Shimoneta, an anime by J.C Staff, might just be their most unfiltered anime they’ve ever released. The English title is A Boring World Where The Concept Of Dirty Jokes Doesn’t Exist. In a society where things are so politically correct that you can’t make dirty jokes, or even talk about sex, what do you do? It’s to the point where citizens have a clasp over their neck that “rings” if a person dares to say anything considered unclean. In which case the SJW’s literally arrest you and throw you in jail. Ayame Kajou isn’t having any of this BS. She’s on a mission to change it with the help of Tanukichi Okuma, and the dialogue is raw as F. 17. Akame Ga Kill This anime is about a revolutionary army (and assassins) who are rebelling against government corruption. Their goal is to destroy it in order to rebuild a better society. It’s not like they’re being dramatic either. The government beheads its citizens in public for the smallest thing like spilling milk out in public. People are taxed up to their eyeballs and have nothing of what you could call a “life”. That’s why resentment is at an all time high. Akame Ga Kill is a Shounen that steers itself in a different direction. Plot armor? None of that over here. Anime characters who are saved by the power of friendship or some other cliche? None of that over here. When a character dies in this universe, it’s over. Realism is what makes Akame Ga Kill shine, and it’s why its become one of the most famous Shounen in the last decade. 18. God Eater God Eater is an anime adapted from video games. It’s done in CGI, but don’t worry, it’s not the type of sh*tty CGI you’re used to seeing. The anime’s plot is about a type of monster called Aragami. A unit of fighters who used weapons called “God Eaters” fight agianst the Aragami to protect what’s left of society. The weapons themselves are made out of the Aragami. The say this anime is horrific is an understatement. It’s outright evil with its violence in some scenes, and it looks so realistic that it only adds to the brutality. Few anime can claim to look this good visually, or to have CGI that doesn’t make your eyes bleed at the sight of it. Underrated series. Other anime: Sekirei. Kill La Kill. Black Lagoon. The Testament Of Sister New Devil. Goblin Slayer. Another. Psycho Pass. Kono Subarashii. Gurren Lagann. How Heavy Are The Dumbbells You Lift?. To Love Ru. – > Recommended: The Biggest Difference Between Anime Girls (And Girls In Real Life) After: AnimeMotitavion

The submissions are still open, keep sending proposals!
Every time there are new requests, I will update the list.
I wanted to remind you that if you don't include in submissions the reason why you think the anime is bad, the request will be rejected. Don't write as a reason that you hate the anime, because I won't accept the submission.
To the user who submitted Boku no Pico, the request was not accepted. As I wrote a few days ago, hentai anime cannot participate.
