In Memoriam: the truly great and berserk operatic Polska singer, actress and all-purpose diva Violetta Villas (née Czesława Maria Cieślak, 10 June 1938 - 5 December 2011) died on this day aged 73. For anyone not au fait with the wild, wild world of the tempestuous Villas, think of her as an ultra-campy, kitsch outsider artist; a wild low-budget Eastern European hybrid of Yma Sumac, Jayne Mansfield, Anita Ekberg in La Dolce Vita, Brigitte Bardot and Charo; a punk (her image and un-hinged performances can suggest Nina Hagen or Jayne County); and the self-parodic possessor of a drag queen sensibility (is it deliberate or naive? Certainly, her persona evokes the films of the Kuchar brothers and John Waters). Dubbed "the voice of the atomic age”, Villas was a celebrated Las Vegas headliner in the 1960s and even appeared in some Hollywood films, but her promising international career was cut short by Communism (she bounced back in the 1980s and never stopped being venerated in Europe). I revere this woman and wish she was more embraced as a queer icon in the non-Polish speaking world. I highly recommend investigating old clips of Villas on YouTube – prepare to have your mind blown!

Sublime raspy-voiced Goddess of Country Exotica (and eternal hair hopper / false eyelash role model) Bobbie Gentry (née Roberta Lee Streeter on 27 July 1942) turns 81 today. (At least I assume she does: some sources list 1944 as her birth year). “Bobbie Gentry was never a Country artist,” Tyler Mahan Coe provocatively asserts on his astute podcast Cocaine & Rhinestones. “And I’m not doing that whole “authenticity” thing. I don’t believe she set out to make Country music. Was her music Southern? Absolutely, yes. But so was Gone with the Wind. So was everything that came out of Stax Records in Memphis … this is NOT Country music. This is pop music about Country music. But Bobbie’s music had a huge impact on Country music.” Of her later more baroque records when Gentry received more creative autonomy and bigger budgets, Coe modifies that to “more like what a Broadway musical about Country music would sound like.” Gentry is also, of course, one of the great enigmas of modern times: she withdrew from public life over four decades ago and her present-day existence is shrouded in mystery. From Wikipedia: “the last time Gentry appeared in public was when she attended the Academy of Country Music Awards on 30 April 1982. She was 39 years old. Since that time, she has not recorded, performed, or been interviewed.” My favourite Bobbie Gentry song will always be “Mississippi Delta”, followed by “Fancy” and her dreamy duets with Glen Campbell. Oh, and her cover of Burt Bacharach’s “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again” is definitive!

I’m dutybound to ensure everyone knows that BBC Four recently dug sublime country music diva Bobbie Gentry’s 1968 variety show out of the archives and screened every episode (they are now streaming on BBC iPlayer).  So far, I’ve only watched episode one (where the musical guest is Long John Baldry) and it lulled me into a trance of total pleasure. Apparently, every episode opens with “Mississippi Delta” (Gentry’s finest moment!) and concludes with “Chickasaw County Child.” Gentry is in exquisite sultry, raspy voice and looks like a dream throughout (her teased mane of hair and thick false eyelashes make her resemble an escapee from Jacqueline Susann’s Valley of the Dolls). The interpretive frolicking and cavorting of dance troupe Pan’s People contributes to the kitsch value.  For anyone outside of the UK: apologies – no idea how you’ll be able to watch this!

So the final character turns out to be based on Ryugen, but it feels kinda weird how there is also one based on Zangetsu and they aren't brothers

I CAN'T BELIEVE HE'S ACTUALLY RYUUGEN?! I made a joke about it when Toten got revealed but I didn't actually expect... (I'm counting it as a win though, which means I guessed three out of sixteen! ...given how wacky some of these got, I'm actually pretty proud of that.)

If eah characters would survive squid game

raven: yes she would use her magic in every game and would distract the guards with it

apple: probably. She might be able to get through the first few games with being level headed and clever, but the last games where you have to play dirty could never betray her "fellow peers"

ashlynn: honestly I don't think so, she would probably survive the first few games based on luck but the rest like the tug of war, marbles, and bridge she would be doomed

briar : she would definitely survive to the very end with enthusiasm (besides everyone getting killed) she would have so much fun playing each game and get excited for the next one

maddie: yes she would win the entire thing not knowing how to play anything or any technique

hunter: yes. he would win the tug of war with ease and rip his uniform hunter style, making the guards hate him for having to get him new clothes every game. he would freak out at the honey comb though

cerise: she would dominate the red light green light, tug of war, and just run across the bridge

cedar: she would be the final winner cause she literally can't die

cupid: probably cause she can literally fly away if she looses

dexter: no. he would freak out and trip at the very first game ending him right there

daring: at first but then later die cause he got too overconfident with things he ain't that good at (anything that requires thinking)

duchess: yes. she would play so dirty and kill everyone to get to the end

sparrow: same with duchess, they would team up and then he'd probably get betrayed by her later (or vise versa)

blondie: no. she would complain non stop about everything, and get herself out without even playing somhow

lizzie: no, she would get mad at every game. honeycomb and anger issues don't mix

kitty: yes, teleportation would win her everything, and avoiding the guards to a certain point

alistair: yes he would have all the tricks to win, surviving himself and telling his friends what to do

bunny: probably. she would just follow alistair's instructions or fly under the radar by turning into a bunny the whole time

rosabella: maybe. she probably wouldn't be here in the first place cause of her morality

darling: fight the guards instead for playing the games

holly: no. she would trip over her hair and get eliminated in the first game

poppy: yes. sneaking scissors in would be helpful

hopper: no he could die immediately turning into a frog and falling into oblivion during the tug of war, all while killing off half his team

humbrey: he'd be the first to go

faybelle: yes. she would use magic to manipulate the games and fly away from guards

chase: would be a guard and eventually get into a brawl with darling, loosing, feeling like a failure for not keeping the players all in check.
