Another 6 weeks, another DIY root job! This time I made a few improvements to my process:

Got my wife to paint on the back, so that application was a lot more even

Switched to a stronger brand of base bleach that's less generic than Clairol Professional

Applied the top + sides in two separate sessions, since the back of my head can react strongly to the dye and I didn't want to have to wash it out

Overall, the improvements are definitely a more even application and a more ethereal + lighter end color on the top overall (I was more aggressive about wait times). The areas to work on are definitely the root color still. I strongly suspect the reason the new dye didn't give me the results I wanted was because it asked for 40 V developer -- I had 20 V. So we fucked around and found out. It's not so bad, but I think it will stick out as Noticeably Orange, especially as time goes on. My plan is to do my next DIY session a little earlier (4 weeks instead of 6 weeks) and try to layer over some of those parts to bring them back to a better lift :)

Looking back through old pictures of myself to see how I looked with various hair colors (I think the only colors I haven’t done are brown and yellow at this point), but I think the major takeaway I have is that I slayed so hard in high school that it should’ve been a crime. Like I was so confused about where the discomfort around my appearance was coming from that I channeled it into being as feminine and pretty as possible and I was doing such a good job that it’s almost (ALMOST) disappointing that I couldn’t just be happy with that. Turns out I can be infinitely more happy as a chubby guy who sometimes wears smudgy eyeliner, but can pull out a cunty little drag look whenever the situation necessitates it.

I dyed my hair teal green back in July, ignoring the instructions on the box not to use it on naturally blonde hair, bc what do they know, right? it's only semipermanant. anyway it's almost November and I'm still doing baking soda washes to try and get the last of it out. 🙃

over the weekend I gave myself a chemical burn on my scalp but now the reaction has gone away and I'm back at it again, just not touching the skin on my head.
