Exciting ||Jay Halstead x Daughter and reader
Jay has to take his daughter to work for the first time and he’s not excited about it.
For the one that voted Jay x daughter on the poll (this is not a Christmas story though)
Jay wasn’t comfortable with the idea of taking his 4 years old daughter to work, but seemed like luck was not on his side. The girl was on vacation, Y/N was on a work trip, the nanny got sick, Will was on shift and the little girl’s grandparent’s couldn’t take care of her all day long, so he had no choice. He called Voight, who with his raspy voice and without any problem said “Bring her.”
He sighed, “Ok, baby girl. You are coming to work with me today” He notified his little daughter who was sitting with her short legs hanging from the couch.
“To the police station?” Her eyes were shining bright out of excitement.
“Yea”, her dad chuckled. “Mommy will pick you up later, when she comes back home from her trip, ok?”
“Okay. I am excited!” Excited was the last feeling she learned in school and from then on she would use it for everything.
“I am excited too”, he lied, he was more nervous than anything. “Go get your backpack”, he ordered and when she was gone he muttered to himself, “I’m already running late”
It wasn’t common to take one’s son or daughter to the bullpen, but is wasn’t so strange either. Voight and Al had done it in the past with their kids; Burgess and Adam had done it with Malayla too, even Kevin had to take his little sister from time to time. This was the family Hank talked about.
Jay went upstairs with a small pink and shinny backpack with unicorn form on his arm, making a funny contrast with the gun hanging from his hips.
“Where’s the baby girl?” Adam said when he saw his friend arriving alone.
“Platt stole her from me”, he answered. He would have arrived even later if he had waited for Trudy to give her back to him. Kim smiled at the image.
“We haven’t seen her in a while”, Al peeked his head from his hidden desk to participate in the conversation, “A bit of her cheerfulness will do good to this place”
“Well, she is, and I’m quoting, “very excited” to see you all”, the proud dad smirked.
But as much excited as she was, the baby Halstead was very shy to even say good morning to them. As soon as Trudy Platt carried her upstairs, the girl ran towards her father as fast as she could.
“Why are you crying?” Jay asked in a very low voice, while sitting her on his lap.
But the one answering the question was Platt, “She started to worry when she noticed you weren’t around downstairs and then silently started crying”
Ashamed, the little Halstead girl hugged her dad’s neck and buried her face on his shoulder. A chorous of “aw” was heard around. This wasn’t what she expected, visiting the police station didn’t make her feel excited after all.
“It’s alright”, Jay kept whispering into her ear. It was only after a few minutes later that she calmed down, but even when she was acting as if nothing had happened, she was still embarrased.
Al passed by from the coffee room to his desk and handed a coockie to the girl. She hesitated on accepting it, she first turned to her dad who nodded in approval and she stretched her tiny arm to take it.
“Precauted girl. Good”, Olinsky smiled at her and she smiled back.
“Why don’t you take your colors and get to work in your coloring book, hm?” Jay said more like an order as he put her down. He couldn’t really advance in his work if she was there right beside him.
They walked to an unoccupied desk right infront of Adam. The girl climbed the chair as her dad took her belongings out of the unicorn backpack, “There you go. I’ll be right there if you need me. Remember to…”
“…be quiet, shhh” his daughter completed.
She stayed there for a while, coloring different pages. The detectives, specially Kim, would praise her artistic work whenever they had to walk by her side. She liked Kim, that woman was funny, but she couldn’t really take her eyes off of the man who had gave her the cookie: Alvin Olinsky, but he was too busy to noticed.
“Daddy”, she silently stood up an whispered, trying not to distract the people around, “I don’t want to color anymore. I want to draw”
“Uh, let me check if I have something for you to—“
“I have some white sheets in here”, Hailey opened a drawer and handed a bunch to the Halstead girl. She liked Hailey too, she had a bright smile.
“How do you say?” Her father encouraged her before going back to her place.
“Thank you, Hailssss”
She was immersed in her own world, drawing, coloring and cutting. She stood up to get closer to Adam and touched his leg to call his attention.
“How do you write ‘I love you’?” She asked the detective.
“Oh!” He took a notebook and a pen, “Very easy, let me just show you”
Jay looked up to witness the scene, altough he couldn’t hear any word they were exchanching, “Hey, sweetie”, he called out, “Let Ruz work, ok?”
“No big deal” His collegue said handing her the sheet.
A few minutes later, the little girl stood up once more to go with her father. She stretched her hand to hand him a very colorful circle of paper.
“Wow! Is this for me?” Jay exxagerated his emotion, and then melted when he read the phrase ‘I love you’ followed by a crooked heart.
With excitement, she explained it was a cup holder: “Yea, you can put your mug there”. Following orders from such a smooth voice, Jay placed his mug over the gift.
“Just what I needed” He kissed her head. When she withdrew of his side, Jay immediatly took the paper with the witten phrase and placed it in a spot where he was able to see it all the time.
Before going back to sit on her chair, the girl passed by Al’s desk and stood next to him staring, until he finally noticed.
She took him by surprise, a cute surprise, “Hey, you scared me!” That made her laugh.
“What do you like the most?” The kid asked wothout any other introduction, “Ducks or unicorns?”
Detective Olinsky took his time to answer the question. He observed that Halstead’s daughter was wearing a T-shirt full of unicorns, her pink shinny backback also had the shape of a unicorn, so he went by that, thinking it would be the correct answer.
“Unicorns, I love unicorns”
But she didn’t had the reaction he expected, instead she sadenned, “Oh! I was going to draw a duck for you”
Being in a space close to Olinsky, and paying attention to what his daughter was doing all the time, Jay listened and couldn’t help to smile to the reaction of his parter.
“Oh, well, I love ducks too!” Alvin tried to amend his error.
“A duck, then?”
“Yea, a duck!”
And she moved her tiny legs as fast as she could. Both detectives shared a look and laughed.
It didn’t pass a lot of time when the girl was next to Olinsky’s chair again, but this time he noticed. Without speaking, she handed to him the drawing of a duck happily swimming in a lake.
“What? Is this for me?” She nodded. There was something peaceful in his voice that she liked. “Thank you very much! I really love it. What’s this?” He pointed to a brown circle tha was close to the animal. The answer make him smile showing his teeth.
“A cookie”
“Well, this masterpiece deserves to be in a special place” The detective took a bit of tape and pasted the drawing where it could be seen by everyone.
Little Halstead ran to his father to tell him what just had happened.
“That’s not fair!” Adam teased her later on the day. “I want my own drawing too! I showed you how to write that phrase, you gotta remember that!”
“It will have to be another day”, Jay intervened. “Time to pick everything up, your mom’s on her way to pick you up”
“Mommy’s back?” She asked with the same bright eyes she had when realizing she was going to the police station.
“Yeah!” Her dad smirked.
“I am excited!” She stated while putting her stuff back into the backpack.
“Say goodbye, time to go. Mommy’s downstairs”
She waved her little hand to everybody in the bullpen, “Bye bye”. She even peeked her head into Voight’s office, “Goodbye, Serge”
“You are leaving already? Goodbye, little one” Hank said in a very friendly tone, “Come back soon, whenever you want”
She laughed at the idea, “I will”
It was a bit hard for her to walk down the stairs. “Do you need help?” Jay asked with his arms opened to carry her and she jumped to him.
As soon as she spotted Y/N at the desk with Trudy she yelled at her. Jay put her down on the floor when the stairs were over and his baby ran towards her mom, who picked her up in a tight hug.
“Mommy!”
“Ugh, how much I missed you” Y/N said covering their daughter in kisses.
“Me too!”
“Did the detectives threated you good?” Trudy asked, “How was your day at daddy’s work, hm?”
Wothout hesitating and with a lot of emotion, the girl answered “Oh! It was exciting!”

Away from you
Pairing: jay halstead x reader
Summary: y/n doesn’t know where Jay truly is and she got worried
Warning: angst, slightly smut, cheating,
A/N: i will probably write a part 2, stay tuned!
~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•
Next part
You and Jay had been together for three years and everything looked good, at least it was ‘till the end of the march. You didn’t know or understand why he changed his behavior when he was with you, especially since it all happened so quickly and unexpectedly that you just couldn’t understand what happened between you two. From one day, he just started to behave differently, coming home later and telling you that he was just too busy at work, doing some paperwork and getting his things ready for the next shift. He made it looked like he was just trying to impress Voight and for a moment you actually believed him.
You knew how much he wanted to become, one day, sergeant and to be on the lead of his own unit and you just wanted to support him in any ways you could; if he wanted to make a good impression in case of a new sergeant, you wouldn’t have stop him. Actually, it looked like Voight was having some issues lately, from how Jay talked about him after work anyway, and you really trusted him and believed him about his story.
Then, one evening, you decided to go talk with Kim, having some times together and trying to explain to her what you had in mind: Jay’s birthday was closer than you thought and you had to find a good gift for him.
“I need you to help me.” You said to Kim, smiling softly. “Jay’s birthday is in two weeks and i want to surprise him with a two-days holiday. I know that he spends a lot of time at the district doing his paperwork and trying to make a good impression in case of a promotion, but i really need your help. Can you please find a good reason to get him home earlier on Friday’s night?”
Kim was surprised by your statement, not because of the surprise you were preparing for him, but for what you said about him staying at the district till late.
“What do you mean that he spends a lot of time at the district to make a good impression? He always leaves before me, actually he arrives earlier to complete the paperwork he usually leaves at the end of the shift.”
You were confused, you were really confused. What did that mean? If he usually left the district early in the evening, why he came home every night after 11 pm, when you were already sleeping?
“Uhm… he usually doesn’t come home before 11 pm.” You whispered, looking at Kim while your mind raced through all the nights you waited for him to come back home, before falling asleep because of the tiredness of the day at work.
“Y/n, i swear to God that he usually leaves at 7 pm, 8 pm if we’re up to something ‘till late.” Kim said, looking sadly at you, while something you didn’t want to admit passed through her mind.
“But… it doesn’t make sense.” You replied, shaking your head slightly. “What does he do between 7 pm and 11 pm then?”
The girl just shook his head, looking ad you sadly and placing her hand on yours, trying to reassure you in some ways. “Maybe it’s not something you have to worry about, maybe it’s just some stuff he had to do or, maybe, it’s just a bad moment for him. I remember he was like this when he suffered from PTSD.”
You nodded, but it didn’t make sense anyway. You remembered when Jay suffered from PTSD because you were always by his side, you were always there for him and you followed him step after step, trying to help him find his way out of it. It couldn’t be PTSD that time, you would have noticed immediately.
He wasn’t distressed like he was when he suffered from it, he was actually really happy and he was usually calm when he came back home.
It could be PTSD, but what was it then?”
“Sorry Kim, i have to go.” You whispered, looking at your phone and finding out it was just 9:30 pm; you had still plenty of time before he could have been home and you wanted to find out what was happening with your boyfriend, actually with your future husband.
“Don’t worry darling, it’s okay.” Kim whispered, smiling at you. “We’ll see each other soon, okay? Maybe you can come at the district one day and we can talk a little? Also Adam and Kevin missed you, you know. With all the preparations of the wedding, we didn’t see you around in a while.”
“Yeah, when i’m not at work at the hospital, i’m around the city trying some white dresses.” You sighed, wearing your jacket and placing some money on the table, paying for your own drink.
“I can imagine that. Don’t worry, really. I hope to see you again soon.” She smiled softly at you.
“I hope that too. Bye Kim, goodnight.”
You left the bar just ten minutes after and you immediately called the one and only that could have tracked Jay’s phone without a word: Mouse.
When he came back from the army, for the second time, you knew that it would have been difficult for him to start a new life again, especially after the first time. Jay helped him and, after some weeks in which he tried to convince him every single day, Mouse accepted to come back at the intelligence as a tech. It wasn’t an easy decision for him and it was strange at first, but he knew he had no better option and working with his friend was something he missed a lot.
He picked up the phone after the second ring.
“Hi! Look who showed up!” He smiled and laughed. “I was actually asking myself when you would have called me to give me the official invite to your wedding, you know? I would have asked Jay, but he i’m pretty sure is not as much involved in the preparations as you are, so…”
“Mouse, i need your favor.” You told him straight away. “I can’t find Jay and I’m worried. Can you please track his phone and tell where he is? And, can you do that without anyone knowing it?”
It was a strange request, especially since it went from you, but Mouse got it immediately and he started to track Jay’s phone straight away. He was actually scared for his friend, he was scared that Jay got into real trouble, maybe with the ptsd or something liked that, but there was no time for questions. He tracked his phone and he gave her the address after only three minutes.
“Thank you, Mouse. Sorry if i interrupted your evening. I have to go now and, don’t worry, I’ll handle the invite in person, okay?” You said, getting inside the car while looking at the address Mouse gave to you. It could be true, why was he there?
“Don’t worry, no problem at all. I’ll leave you now, i guess you’re busy… just, tell me if anything happened to him, okay?” He replied, making sure that everything was okay, making sure that you would have called him in case of trouble.
“I will, thanks Mouse.”
When he hung up, you started the car and you drove to the location he sent you; why the hell was Jay at his old apartment? Didn’t he sell it?
When you arrived at the location, you parked the car and you got out as soon as you could, going up the stairs and reaching his door just few minutes after. Fortunately, you still knew where he used to hide the key and you went for it, opening the door as silently as you could. The first thing you noticed when you entered was the emptiness of the room: there was nothing there other than some furnishings and still you didn’t understand why Jay was there.
Then, you noticed it.
Then, you noticed them: heels and they weren’t yours.
Your mouth became dry and you stopped breathing properly, trying to find an explanation for what you were seeing. You took some steps forward and your eyes fell on the jeans and t-shirts that were on the floor, all the way up to what it was Jay’s bedroom before he moved out. You took the hallway, starting to hear voices, moans you didn’t want to hear, moans you just wanted to be from your neighbors, even if you knew that they were elderly and it couldn’t have been them. Just at the front of the door, you saw them: panties and Jay’s boxer.
Your brain stopped working, you stopped breathing and your heart almost stopped beating; you just couldn’t understand what was happing, you couldn’t believed it.
You zoned out, like you couldn’t have been there, like you were just in a dream, a bad dream, a really bad one, then you came back to reality when you actually saw and hear them.
“Oh, Jay.” She moaned, begging him. “Please, faster.”
Hailey.
Jay’s partner.
“God, Hails…” Your boyfriend moaned, lowering himself on her to kiss her breast while fucking her. “I… shit… you feel so good around me.”
“Oh, J-Jay!” She moaned louder, unaware of your presence on the frame of the door, where you were watching them, without breathing.
Jay took Hailey’s legs and he put it on his own shoulder, increasing the pace.
“Yes, cum around me, baby. Cum for me, i love you.”
Surprisingly. It wasn’t watching him fucking her that destroyed you: it was his last three words, the same three words he said to you every morning before going to work, the same three words he said to you on the phone when he was to busy at work to come home, even if he was actually heading to his old apartment, when he was able to fuck his partner whenever he wanted to.
You stepped back silently, to broken to face the truth, to heart broken to face him.
You stepped back and you left without saying a word, without make noise; you went back inside your car and only then, when Hailey’s and Jay’s moans were far away from you, you started breathing again.
Tears were streaming down your cheeks from minutes probably, but you couldn’t notice it before and you were to shocked to dry off your tears: you just wanted to add as many distance as you could between you and the man you thought was the love of your life.
You didn’t even went back to your apartment, you couldn’t have handle being again in the house that would have been yours, the house in which you hoped you would have started a family with Jay. You didn’t go back to your apartment to collect all your belongings, you just left.
You left a message to your boss’ office regarding your resignation and you drove away.
Away from Jay.
Away from your apartment.
Away from the life you dreamed of with him.
Away from the love.
Away from the pain.
Away from Chicago.

The way you are.
Pairing: Jay Halstead x reader
Wordcount: 2064
Summary: You joined intelligence three months ago as their tech consultant. You've had a crush on Jay since the moment you met and so has he, you just haven't told each other. But, that just might chance when you decide to get a new look.
Warnings: None. I haven't been kind to Adam though...
Note: First and foremost: one of my best friends has helped my out with the plot, so big thanks to her! The story hasn't turned out exactly as I had planned, but I am satisfied with the result. Let me know if you have any feedback!
Also, the reader has glasses, just because main characters usually don't and it fit the story really well. And finally, I've gotten some inspiration from Morgan and Garcia from Criminal Minds, for those like to know.
Story:
Your heart was pounding as you walked towards your desk in the bullpen. You had started working with the intelligence unit in Chicago just three months ago and you loved it. It felt great knowing you helped put criminals behind bars, even though you did it from behind a computer. Your new colleagues had become your family. Kevin had become the brother you always wanted, Hailey and Kim had become two of your best friends and you had even grown fond of Adam, though his flirting sometimes got close to crossing the line. And then there was Jay. It had taken you less than a week to develop a major crush on the tall, muscular soldier, and who could blame you? The man looked like a dream and had a brain like very few others. Unfortunately, you were pretty sure your feelings weren’t reciprocated. Jay had barely looked at you since you started working in intelligence, let alone talked to you. It hurt and no matter how hard you tried to push away your feelings, they just kept popping up. You had tried to talk to Jay, but it was hard, taking the first step, when the object of you affection seemed to want nothing to do with you. On top of that you had never really been a people person, so you decided to just let it be.
Over the last two months you had seen a small part of the man behind the ocean green eyes and the smooth, freckled skin. You noticed how he interacted with his colleagues in the unit, how he tried to make them laugh when he could, tried to protect them if he needed to and cared about them like they were his brothers and sisters. During the nights you accompanied the unit to Molly’s, you noticed the way he treated the first responders he had crossed paths with and people he had never met with the same care and kindness he treated his closest friends. You just wished he would care about you that way.
The only people in the unit who suspected you of having feelings towards the green eyed detective were Kim and Hailey, but you hadn’t admitted anything to them.
There was one person you had admitted it to though. Your sister was one of those people who got overly exited about everything and when you told her you had a crush on one of your colleagues, she looked like she was about to burst out of her skin. You, of course, tried to calm her down by telling her nothing was ever going to happen between you and Jay, but the damage had already been done. If you had let her, your sister would’ve already started planning your and Jay’s wedding, but at that point you had reached your limit and threatened to leave if she didn’t calm down. The rest of the night, the two of you talked about everything but Jay and it was great. Though your sister wouldn’t be herself if, right before you left, she hadn’t offered you give you a fresh, new look to see if that could possibly attract Jay’s attention. Because, while she could be a lot at times, she deeply cared about you and from what you had told her, you deserved someone as good as Jay by your side.
A week ago you had decided you were done pining over Jay, since all it had brought you so far was pain and so, for the past week, you had ignored him, only talking to him if you had to. You needed a fresh start, so you had taken up your sister on her offer to give you a make over, or, in her words, a fresh, new look. That was the reason that your palms were sweating and your heart was trying to hack its way out of your chest. You had exchanged your usual jeans and flannel for an olive green power suit. You wore your hair down instead of in its usual pony tail and even the pair of rose gold glasses you had worn for years had been replaced by a set of contact lenses.
You couldn’t believe you had given your sister permission to do this. The fabric of the power suit itched, your lenses wouldn’t stay in place and the whole outfit made you feel like a pumpkin in a field of spinach. You couldn’t wait to get home and change.
“Hey, Y/N, you look great!” Hailey said. You mumbled a thanks. Kevin whistled and Adam couldn’t help himself: “Ooh, Y/N, looking smoking!” If they hadn’t noticed you were blushing before, they damn sure would now. You felt like your skin was about to melt off your cheeks. You thanked your colleagues for their complements and hid behind your desk in your pile of paperwork as fast as you could.
That morning a new case had come up. The body of a teenager had been found at a waste disposal site. It had become your job to dig into his online world to see if it had anything to do with the reason he had ended up dead. You knew you shouldn’t, but you couldn’t help relating to the victim more and more as you learned more about him. He was a loner in High School, you had been one years ago. He was more comfortable in his online world than his real one, like you. He was a hacker, so were you. At some point, it felt like you were becoming friends with him, even though you would never actually meet him.
A few hours later sergeant Voight came out of his office. “What do we have?” He asked no one and everyone at once. As your colleagues started rambling about everything they’d found, you just stared at the picture on the board. What if that had been you? What if, one day, you hadn’t come home, only for the cops to call your parents and tell them your body had been found? You felt nauseous just thinking about it, though focusing your mind on something that wasn’t yourself or your new look was kind of comforting. You had been on edge all morning because of it and you knew it wouldn’t take much for you to reach your limit.
Suddenly something Jay said, pulled you back to the conversation in front of you. “Why are cases involving hackers always so difficult?” He asked Hailey. “What do you mean?” The blonde asked in return. “Well, normal kids talk to each other. You just have to talk to their friends to get a bunch of leads. Hackers, like this guy, hide everything, so we have to waste a bunch of time looking for leads, before we can actually start investigating.”
The sound of your desk chair hitting the wall got five heads turning your way. You didn’t pay any attention to them and just left.
Jay’s words kept bouncing around in your skull as the tears that had been building up inside you finally found their way to the surface. You walked into the locker room as fast as you could. You made sure the door closed behind you before walking to your locker and taking the little box and bottle of solution for your contacts out.
A few minutes later you heard the door of the locker room opening. Not now, you thought. You were seated on one of the benches, one contact in the box, the other in your eye. Your cheeks were still wet from your tears and you didn’t doubt you had mascara streaks under your eyes. Needless to say, you didn’t exactly look very charming.
Part of you expected it to be either Kim or Hailey, but when you noticed the boots the person was wearing, it became clear it was neither. You looked up. Right into the eyes of the last person you expected to see. “What are you doing here?” You asked, your gaze returning to the stuff in front of you. “I came to check on you. You just flew out of the bullpen faster than Usain Bolt on one of his best days. What happened?” Jay asked as he sat down next to you. “Nothing, I’m fine, you go and… Why won’t these stupid contacts stay in their place?” You groaned. “Take them out.” Jay said, a soft smile on his face. You did as he said. He stood up and walked over to your locker. Returning with the case that contained your glasses, only you couldn’t see that, having taken out your contacts and put them in the box. Jay carefully placed your metal framed glasses on your nose and handed you a tissue. “There she is. Now, what’s gotten you so upset?” Jay asked. You slightly adjusted your glasses and wiped the tear- and mascara streaks off your face. You took a deep breath and let out everything you’d kept from him for the last two months. “Honestly? You are. You’ve barely said a word to me since I started working here and that sucks because you’re also the guy I’ve had a crush on for two months, but obviously you don’t want anything to do with me, so I figured I should get over it so I let my sister give me a new look, but I’ve never worn anything this itchy, these contacts suck and my hair won’t get out of my face. And on top of that what you just said about hackers isn’t true. We are normal, we have friends and once you get to know one of us, our hiding places become obvious.” You were out of breath when you stopped talking, scared to look into Jay’s beautiful green eyes. “I am so sorry. You’re right, I didn’t mean it that way. Calling them “normal kids” was a bad choice of words and I’m sure hackers have friends too. But you know I wasn’t talking about you right? I was talking about the kid whose murder we’re investigating. You’re not him.” Jay told you. “I know, I just used to be a lot like him in High School, but I guess, for me, that’s a long time ago and I’m not that little girl anymore.” You said, realising you may have overreacted a bit. “Yeah, and you’re still here. He’s not. And as for why I didn’t really talk to you, I’ve had a crush on you from the moment you walked into the bullpen. I just got terrified I’d screw things up if I opened my mouth, so I tried to show you how I felt by getting you coffee or cleaning your desk. Hell, I’ve been doing the cleaning lady’s job for her for the past three months.” Jay confessed. Suddenly a bunch of puzzle pieces fell into place. You had found a hot cup of coffee on your desk everyday, sometimes multiple times a day, but somehow never wondered who put it there. You had even noticed your workspace sometimes looked cleaner than the others, but you just figured the cleaning lady started with your desk and therefore had less energy when she reached the others.
Jay’s voice was still bouncing around your skull, only now saying the words: I’ve had a crush on you. You couldn’t think rationally anymore so you did the only thing you could think of. You kissed him. As your hands found their way into his hair, his arms wrapped around your waist, pulling you closer. You pulled back when you heard the bottle of contact solution fall on the ground. Jay let go of you and picked it up. You felt a shiver run down your spine. Had it been this cold this entire time? Jay looked at you and then noticed your jacket. It was discarded on the ground in front of your locker. He stood up and seconds later you felt a piece of fabric covering your shoulders. It was a flannel. It was his flannel. He sat back in front of you and cupped your face, looking into your eyes. “And Y/N, while you did look incredibly hot in that power suit, you look just as good in jeans and even in a garbage bag for all I care. You are beautiful, just the way you are.”

TL;DR - Taking requests for CPD oneshots/prompts
Itching for more Voight content…
If anyone has an ask or would like to submit a prompt for me to write, please let me know! I love writing oneshots and have been itching for Hank lately, especially due to the events of 11x7 (-_-)

Just For A Moment - Part 6
I am feeling emotional, so what better way to channel it than angsty angst </3
I thought I'd do part 6 with a bit of insight on Hailey's emotions, and give a bit more context of that night.
TW: (slight) dub-con? (Depends how you would read the scenario), angst, mentions of cheating

Jay had caught Hailey's eye from the first moment she had seen him. Her eyes followed his every move and traced over every freckle. So when she was able to build a tentative friendship with the man, she had reluctantly allowed hope to build in the pit of her heart praying something would happen.
But it wouldn't. Or at least, it couldn't.
Not when his heart was already held in the hands of another.
Hailey's heart beat for Jay, but his heart belonged to another, and his heart sang for the same girl Hailey found herself growing envious towards as the day passed.
Aurora looked nothing like her - dark hair, free-flowing curls, tanned skin, a bright smile, and glowing eyes. Aurora was everything she wasn't, everything she couldn't be, and that's why Hailey wasn't surprised to learn that Aurora had gotten to him before she ever had the chance.
Still, she told herself it was platonic - the friendship she shared with Jay. An innocent friendship she hid her longing behind, accepting every friendly pat or cheery grin with a perfectly placed mask of contentment.
She would take what he would give.
She had taken what he gave. She had taken, and taken, and taken. Until she could no longer do it.
Maybe it was because she had one too many drinks, or because the last case had hit her in a vulnerable place she had long forgotten about - or maybe she was just cruel and selfish, and had to have whatever it was she wanted.
Hailey had never been selfish, never had the chance to be. So what would be the harm if she was selfish just this once.
That was what she had told herself when he trudged towards Jay's apartment that night. Feigning panic and using the heartache she had felt for so many months - seeing Jay in the arms of another woman - as a mask to convince him. To convince him she needed him. She needs him.
She had cried in his arms, she asked him to hold her - begged. And he had. He was a good friend.
But she didn't want that, she wanted more.
When she risked a glance at him, his eyes glassy and unfocused despite his best attempts to do so, she took her chance. A light kiss, her lips barely brushing against his own as she held her breath.
She pulled back, surveying his expression and waiting.
Waiting.
Jay sat frozen, shoulders rigid as his brows furrowed in confusion. But he hadn't said to stop.
She kissed him again, harder. She poured every ounce of longing, every ache, every envious chill, every inch of passion and love her body held and fed it into him, hoping he would accept her.
He would mumble against her lips, whispers filled with confusion and desperation melded with pleads of a woman's name that was not her own.
"It's me, Jay. I'm here, your Hailey's here."
The words seemed to have sobered him up, looking up at her as though he was seeing someone completely new. Jay tried to blink through the confusion, but the peppered kisses and light brushes felt good against his burning skin, the coos of praises and promises echoed through his clouded mind.
He wants this. He does, right?
He wants this, she said he does.
So he gave in - gave in so easily that he still lives with the shame of doing so. He lives with the guilt of giving in without a second glance, of not trying to stop, of not trying to move away, of not trying.
Hailey could see it on his face every day afterwards - the way he would flinch at her every touch, the way he would lean away from her when he thought she wouldn't notice, how he replied to her texts slower until he stopped completely.
She had told him it was a mistake, that it would stay between them, and they would move on and be friends.
Jay had accepted, but he knew there was a part of him broken by the night he betrayed Aurora. But the fear of her finding out was far worse than having to stay friends with Hailey, hoping she never confessed to their guilty actions.
Hailey had spoken her words, knowing she didn't believe a single one - she hoped, with every day that passed, Jay would come to her and need her. Ask for her. Beg for her.
That day never came, and when Aurora came back to Chicago Hailey knew it never would.
Perhaps that was why she couldn't find it in herself to be angry as she watched the scene unfold in front of her.
Hailey had been to Jay's apartment every night after Aurora had returned, knocking and calling out to him. When she was inevitably ignored, she would ring and call him, pleading with him to see sense and come back to work, or to at least talk to her.
Three days had gone by, and the team was almost ready to execute the undercover operation with Aurora, when she would assume her new identity later tonight.
And it was on this night that Jay had returned.
***
Aurora was in the locker room with Kim, someone who used to be close friends with Hailey but had distanced herself and become quieter after the Aurora had left.
Hailey knew she had destroyed something precious in the group, had forced them to lose another team mate - another friend, another part of their family.
But why was she not enough?
She was snapped out of her reverie by the sound of ascending footsteps, slow and heavy thuds that had become such a familiar sound she turned her head towards the stairs instinctively.
There he stood, a man broken by the consequences of his own actions, eyes tired and face blank as his eyes scanned over the room. His gaze was fleeting as it crossed her figure that was hunched over the desk - paperwork laid astray in a frantic manner.
She felt a stab of disappointment at the action.
Even when she was there, right in front of him, right under his nose. Jay didn't see her. He wouldn't. Because he didn't want to.
But why not? Why was she not enough for him?
Voight stepped out of his office before she could say a word, before she could pour out all the words running through her mind in tumultuous waves, disregarding any shame or fear.
"Jay," his voice, though gravelly, was dipped in a soothing tinge of relief, "it's good to have you back"
His words finally prompted Adam and Kevin to turn his way, shock tugging at their features as they regarded him with wide eyes - knowing the girl he was pining over was not even a door away from him.
Still, they pasted on a smile, hiding the strain in their eyes as they imagined the possible scenarios that could unfold. They made their way towards Jay, exchanging supportive hugs and firm pats on the shoulder - they would be there for him, in whichever way he let them. In any way they could.
"Welcome back, man. Wasn't the same without you."
Kevin's statement was true, but the words only brought a tense smile on Jay's face - the office wasn't the same without her.
And she only left because of him.
His mouth opened, ready to spew words of appeasement or acknowledgement. Hailey wasn't sure, but she watched with intense eyes as she, for once, sat back and didn't approach the man she was head over heels in love with.
There was a crack of a word - the starting of a, no doubt, very short sentence. And Hailey found herself sweltering in frustration and anxiety when it was cut off by the sound of heels lightly tapping against the floor.
Aurora.
Hailey sat up straighter, eyes flickering between Aurora's oblivious form as she approached a wound-up Jay. Kim was trailing behind her, a nervous smile on her face as she tried to keep up their tentative conversation.
But it didn't matter because when Aurora stepped out into the office, she had all but stopped mid-sentence herself. A look of bafflement spread across her face, and a similar expression began pulling across Jay's, except his was tainted my rivulets of regret and guilt.
Jay stepped back as though her presence was a physical hit against him, and Aurora's face shuttered as she drew in a sharp breath.
It was like they were trapped in their own bubble, oblivious to all those around them as they stared at each other for the first time in months.
Hailey could admit, Aurora looked good. Great even.
Always beautiful, ever graceful, and a heart full of passion that she carried everywhere she went.
Unlike Jay, Aurora didn't carry her sadness out in the open for all to see. It was hidden in a part so deep and dark, she hoped it would never escape.
But Jay, he couldn't think of anything worse than the night Aurora had left him crying and broken. So he wore his agony out for all to see, a show of his remorse and a sign of his undying devotion to do what he must to make things right.
Seconds pass, or perhaps it was minutes.
It was Jay who broke first, a revelation that had Hailey look down at her desk, feigning signatures as her eyes burned and her cheeks became heated with embarassment and fury.
Jay couldn't help it, seeing her standing there. She looked so real. So true. As though, finally, she was more than an alcohol-induced dream, a hallucination, an echo just out of grasp.
Her hair was let out, flowing down her back in soft curls as she wore a long black gown with a slit at each leg. The gown cinched at her waist, and the neck was low and deep. Around her neck sat a gold necklace, and a feeling of deja vu washed over Jay at the sight of it.
She looked beautiful, like she deserved to have her every step treasured. She deserved devotion and adoration, love and kindness, loyalty and undying passion.
Longing began to fester in the base of his throat, a feeling so familiar that he swallowed through it with perfect ease.
"Aurora."
Jay hadn't called her that in so long, always Rory. Just Rory.
But hearing her name on his lips, after so long. It broke the cage she had locked that frail and trampled part of her soul into, it tugged at her heart and ripped at her throat.
Her eyes welled with tears as she looked at the man in front of her.
He wore his sadness with open arms.
Jay had lost weight - though still muscular and fit, he was not the same man she had left all those months ago. His eyes were weighed down by purple bags, the whites of his eyes tainted by the red of no sleep, a permanent scruff etched across his face, and clothes that were too rumpled for her to believe he had even changed before he came in today.
Surprisingly, Jay was just as broken as she was. Only Jay couldn't hide it.
There was a part of her that was furious at that - Jay had hurt her, and yet here he was breaking into tears as though he deserved her sympathy.
On the other hand, there was a part of her, so loving and so knowing, that simmered with relief at the sight of his anguish.
Jay missed her, he needed her. He said she was enough, perhaps he really did mean it.
Or perhaps his words were fuelled by the heavy load of a guilty man.
The thought was enough to snap her out from the longing, which scratched at her soul - begging and pleading to give in. Instead, she blinked, a passive look painted across her face. A flawless mask finished with a rigid smile. She nodded at Jay, forcing her hands not to tremble at the crestfallen look on his face.
Jay took a step forward, as though he was trying to prove to her he existed. As though he took her silence as a sign she hadn't seen him, and he wanted her to.
Needed her to.
But Aurora stepped back with a flinch, eyes flickering with pooling tears as she forced back her pain and tried to remain formal. She reached into her training, pulling at every strand and every inch of stoicism she could find within her body to present an unfazed facade as she turned towards Voight.
"I'm ready."
"Ready? Ready for what?"
Jay's voice was laced with incredulity, his head spinning at the fact that Aurora was here. She was here right in front of him.
But just like those few weeks so many months ago, she had barely acknowledged him.
Jay wanted to feel seen, but the only person who had ever made him feel so was now ignoring him.
Hailey was like a friend to him. He found camraderie in her presence, recognition in her touch. They faced similar struggles, similar lives. It was like looking into a reflection of some sort, seeing himself just as determined and strong on the other side.
But what life could a person live with their own reflection.
Such a life would be lonely and draining, boring and idle.
Aurora was the woman who had captured his heart, stolen his breath, and tied herself with his soul. She was a breath of fresh air, a source of comfort and warmth. She was a listening ear and loving companion. She balanced him out, smoothed out his edges, and evened out his temper.
He found mutual respect and care in his friendship to Hailey, but he found that and so much more in Aurora. In Aurora, he found the woman who gave him purpose - a brightly lit candle, a roaring flame, and a gentle guide out of the darkness that clouded his mind, the horrors that painted his past.
And here she was, standing in front of him. A dream just out of reach.
Was she back in Chicago permanently? Had she rejoined Intelligence? Was she here because of him? Or was it because of the guy at the bar?
The thoughts raced across his mind so fast Jay's eyes began to flicker over every object within his vicinity as he tried to sort through them.
Aurora is back.
She's back.
Seeing Jay's eyes shine with reverence, they were glossy in the light with unshed tears. Even in his state of confusion, he couldn't hide his adoration and couldn't hide his devotion.
Hailey felt her throat burn with nausea - how could she have been so blind.

Day 2 of my Month of May Writing Challenge: I’m really not sure what this is but enjoy! It’s a Halstead! sister reader x essentially intelligence unit. Idk how to tag this one tbh but it just came to me.
Title: Village
Your POV
You were an anxious person who had a brother who worked for a specialized elite unit in the police force and you liked crime drama shows, so it was no brainer your brain thought of all the irrational scenarios for you to be kidnapped. Like walking to the Target and getting grabbed by someone hidden in the bushes. You drop your phone and the only way anyone knows you're missing is because you do a no call no show at work. Or maybe you're at your door unlocking the gate but it’s taking you a hot second because you're carrying a tray of coffee for you and your siblings. A guy who was watching you for days sees their opportunity and grabs you, inevitably getting you to drop your drinks. Your brothers find out you're missing when they look outside and see your keys, backpack, and tray of drinks spilled out on the ground.
Realistically you know the likelihood of any of these things happening is low, but you're still on guard.
That’s why when you find yourself being chased by a man dressed as a construction worker, you're scared but not fully shocked.
Reaching your brother’s house, you bang on the door with the palm of your hand hoping he or his wife is home and will open the door. Looking back, you can see the man in the distance still running. Knocking harder, you pray someone will open the door. You can feel the hairs on the back of your neck stand up when you realize the man in question is getting closer and before you have time to knock a third time, you feel yourself being lifted. You begin to wriggle about in his arms and begin to open your mouth to scream, but before you have the chance he clamps a hand over your mouth.
“Be a good little girl and swallow the pill” he chastises while yanking your head back to take in the pill he had in the palm of his hand.
You really don’t want to swallow it, but your reflexes kick in and before you know it whatever he had given you, you had swallowed.
“Good girl” he praises as he drags you away from the door and towards an awaiting van.
When you wake up, you find yourself tied to a pole in the center of a room. Looking around, you figure you're in a basement somewhere. You pray Jay realizes you’re missing and has started looking for you.
Jay POV
It was a slow paperwork day at the office. Nobody seemed too interested in the paperwork we were doing. 5pm couldn’t come fast enough. Y/N was supposed to be getting her homework done on time so that we could enjoy a nice relaxing movie to end the work/school week.
I knew Y/N was an anxious kid and had a wild imagination. I also knew my job was inherently dangerous so to make sure I could keep an eye on not only Y/N but also the house we lived at, I installed a ring camera and had the feed hooked up to my phone. So anytime someone came to the house I would be alerted. Y/N did not know this cause she didn’t need her imagination running more wild with the possibilities of what could happen.
While typing away on my computer, my phone lights up with a notification that someone is at the door. I decide it’s best to finish my thoughts in the report before looking.
When I do eventually look I catch the tail end of someone dragging my sister away and she looks passed out.
“Voight!” I call out while rewinding the ring camera to see a frantic Y/N continuously check behind her back and then see the man grab her.
The team gathers around and watches.
“Adam, Kim, see if we can get facial rec off this partial facial grab” states Voight while putting a hand on my shoulder and squeezing it.
I can’t believe my sister got kidnapped and I didn’t catch it cause I was doing stupid paperwork!
Your POV
The man had just left the room and all you could do was sob! He roughed you up a bit and told you that you had to be a good little girl, let him call you Saddie and if you did what he told you then you wouldn’t be chained up anymore. You just wanted to go home.
Jay’s POV
Voight is letting me help with the case, but I have to stay on desk duty.
“We got a name! His name is Richard Klutz. His rap sheet includes aggravated assault, mandated anger management therapy, possession with intent to sell, and get this he was a good citizen up until 3 years ago.” spoke Kim while Adam put up photos and wrote on the whiteboard.
“What changed” I asked while swallowing the nausea I was feeling just thinking about my sister being in the hands of this monster.
“His 13 year old daughter died from Leukemia.” stated Kim.
The team got to work trying to locate a location that Richard might be at. But we came up empty, until Hailey realized that maybe a family home if his daughter was what made him go off the deep end.
“1455 S Archer, he is still paying property taxes on the place. It didn’t come up in the initial search cause the house is under his ex's name.” I said from my desk.
“Let’s roll out!” called Voight. I watched as everyone grabbed coats and began to shuffle out. I prayed my sister wasn’t hurt too badly! I couldn’t wait to get the call to head to the hospital to see her!
Your POV
The man, who had begun referring to himself as daddy, had beat me up some more and was now in the process of cutting my hair. My hair isn’t that long to begin with, it’s just past my shoulders, but he is trying to make it like a pixie cut, but he is using kitchen sheers and it hurts and I just know it my heart it’s going to be a botched job I’m going to have to pay to get fixed.
“There, all pretty” he sing songed while petting my now pixie short hair.
I scowled and spit out, “go to hell”
Before he could punch me again for cursing I heard the door upstairs and footsteps. The team found me!
“Down here!” I screamed while smirking at the man.
A rush of footsteps came barreling down the wooden staircase and I smiled in relief when I saw Adam, Kim, Kevin, and Hailey!
Adam and Kevin tackled the man and both Hailey and Kim came to untie me. Once untied I fell into Hailey’s arms and sobbed!
“It’s okay babygirl, we got you, you’re safe now” she reassured me.
Third Person POV
At the hospital Jay met everyone. Ethan confirmed that Y/N didn’t need to stay overnight, but she did need to stay for a few hours to get rehydrated from an IV and get her wounds cleaned. Dr. Charles also came for a visit and they discussed that even though she had thought of all these various scenarios happening to her, this was definitely not her fault and she was not asking for it. He also recommended she had some one on one therapy to manage her anxiety going forward and to also have family therapy with Will and Jay to help her voice her thoughts about them having dangerous and time consuming jobs. And also so that Will and Jay can learn how to communicate with her about important things without feeling like by doing so they are going to trigger her anxiety.
Hailey and Kim decided that they would take Y/N for a girls day. They got a haircut to fix her botched pixie. Then they went for mani & pedis.
Kevin and Adam decided they were going to do their own day with her, which included teaching her self defense moves and ended with teaching her how to play video games after she kicked Adam a little too hard in the nuts.
Voight’s way to help Y/N through her trauma was to take care of Richard Klutz and make sure he left town and never came back.
Through it all, Y/N and the Halsteads realized that it truly does take a village to raise someone and damn do they have a village around them!

Hailey Upton x Upton! Brother Oc
Warning ⚠: mentions child abuse, abuse, someone trying to drug someone, underage drinking, fighting.
First time writing on this app so it might suck
Summary: JJ just needed his older sister.
JJ arrived home in the middle of the night. The lights turned on as he stepped in. JJ looked up to find his father sitting on the couch with a beer in his hand. "Where were you?" His father replied furiously as he stood up and placed his drink on the table. JJ tensed up “i-i went for a walk” JJ said heading past his father but was stopped when his father grabbed his arm. “Don’t lie to me” His father stated, tightening his grip on JJ's arm. JJ stared at him, terrified.
"I'm not," JJ stuttered. His father pushed him onto the table, knocking the vase and JJ over. His father approached him, grabbing his throat and pushing him into the wall, choking him. JJ's mother rushes down the stairs as he begins to have problems breathing.
With tears in his eyes, JJ begs his mother to help him. "The woman next door will call the police, John, please let him go," his mother said with tears in her eyes, leading his father to let go of his hold. JJ started coughing as he tried to catch his breath. His father gripped his face "Don't lie to me again," his father said before releasing his hold and taking his beer and going to the stairs. "Clean this up," his father said as he walked up the stairs.
JJ coughed again and placed his palm to his throat. He turned at his mother, who was looking at him with a sorrowful expression before walking away. "Mom," JJ whispered, his voice cracking, making her pause and gaze at him for a second as tears streamed down her cheeks. JJ watched as she walked away, causing him to cry and lean against the wall.
JJ wipes his eye and pulls out his phone to check his contacts. He came to a halt when he saw Hailey's name. JJ let out a breath he hadn't realized he was holding while shaking his head at his closest friend.
JJ quickly goes to his room after picking up the broken vase, grabbing a backpack before heading to his wardrobe to collect some clothing. With a little smile, JJ grabs a picture of himself and Hailey from the day she completed the police academy and stares at it. "At least one of us got out," he thinks to himself.
JJ's phone vibrated, drawing his attention away from the photo. He pulls out his phone to find that Tyler had texted him saying he was here. JJ places the photo in his backpack and walks downstairs to the kitchen, where he places the letter he wrote on the fridge. JJ comes outside to Tyler's car, and as he gets in and closes the door, he glances towards the home. Tyler looked at him with a worried look, "How long are you staying with me?" Tyler asked, pulling JJ out of his thoughts, "as long as you let me be there." JJ said "As long as you want," Tyler stated as he shifted into drive.
Two weeks later
It was a mistake for him to leave Tyler after just two weeks. With a black eye and broken arm, he is currently standing in front of district 21, where Hailey works. Before entering, he inhaled deeply and noticed an older woman with gray hair. As he got closer, he recognized her. "Uh hi um is Hailey Upton here?" he asked as he approached the main desk. Trudy was forced to glance up from her paper by JJ's question to see the teenager with the broken arm and black eye. "No, but you are welcome to sit there and wait", Trudy responded, gesturing to the bench.
JJ paused for a while before shaking his head, "uh no it fine uh thanks for your help," he added with a little smile. "You can leave her a name and number," Trudy added as she handed JJ the sticky notes and a pen. JJ took the pen and put his name on it. "Thank you again," he added. Trudy nodded as she watched him go away.
JJ walks out, tears streaming down his cheeks, as he pulls out his phone, which was ringing. He wipes his tears away when he responds to Monty's call "hello," JJ said. "I've got the fake IDs, let's get drunk," Monty replied. JJ considered it for a few minutes "I don't know man," JJ said "oh come on don't be a pussy," Monty remarked, leading JJ to groan, "fine send me the address," JJ responded. "OK," Monty responded before hanging up the phone. JJ walks to his motorcycle, gets on, and rides away.
an hour later
Hailey and Jay stepped inside the precinct, intending to go upstairs, but were stopped by Trudy "hey Hailey, come here." Trudy said. Hailey looked at Jay, who shrugged. They both approached the front desk, "what's up?" Hailey asked. Trudy took out a sticky note "there was someone here for you" Trudy said with a glance at the sticky note "someone named JJ" Trudy said handed it to Hailey.
Hailey frowned at the sticky note, "Did he say anything?" Hailey asked, her face worried. Jay was confused as to why Hailey was concerned. Trudy shakes her head, "no he didn't," Trudy says as Hailey nods and walks upstairs, "but he looked like he got into a fight," Trudy says, forcing Hailey to pause. "Uh thanks Trudy," Hailey said as she followed Jay upstairs. "Who JJ?" Jay questioned as Hailey opened the door to go upstairs. "My little brother," Hailey said.
At the club
JJ was high and drunk while dancing on the dance floor. He stopped dancing as his phone began to vibrate; he took it out and noticed it was Hailey. He looks at his phone for a few seconds before turning it off. He approached his friends, who were equally drunk and high.
"I'm going to get more drinks, do you want any?" he said to Monty, who was smoking a joint. Monty shaking his head no and letting smoke escape from his mouth. JJ looked around at the others, who were also shaking their heads and turning away to go to the bar.
JJ approaches the bar, causing a bartender to approach him. "Can I get another?" JJ said, holding up the bottle, and she nodded. JJ stepped back for a split second to catch a man putting something in a girl's drink. He comes over to the girl and says, "I would get a new drink if I were because this idiot put something in it," before snatching the drink and spilling it on the guy's head. "What the hell!" the guy cried furiously. “you like drugging people" JJ said angrily.
As he recovers himself, the guy pushes JJ back, causing him to smirk. "This is going to be fun," JJ says as he hits the guy in the face with his non-broken hand, causing the guy to collapse. JJ's friends hurry over, yanking him away from the man who had a bloody nose.
JJ was led outside by the guys. When they arrived outside, the officers were waiting for them. "Again, JJ," officer Bailey shouted. "Oh, Bailey, hey man," JJ responded as he waved intoxicatedly. The person he hit walked outside and shouted, "He assaulted me, I want him arrested," pointing to JJ, who rolled his eyes. Officer Bailey glanced at JJ and signed before heading up to him and putting the cuffs on. "He tried to drug someone and I'm the one getting arrested, fun," JJ said with a laugh.
At district 21
"This isn't your station," JJ remarked as officer Bailey pulled up to District 21. JJ was very much brought to his senses when he saw the district since he knew hailey was there. "I know, but Hailey made a call, so here we are," officer Bailey responded. JJ sighed as officer Bailey exited the car, unlocking JJ's door and assisting him out of the vehicle. "So what you're talking to my sister now," JJ said furiously. Officer Bailey uncuffs him "she's your sister," officer Bailey said which caused JJ to roll his eyes.
Hailey was at her work when she received the text 'we're here' from Bailey. Jay looked up from his paperwork as Hailey sighed, "they're here?" Jay asked as Hailey stood up to put on her jacket. "Yeah," Hailey says, standing up. "Do you want me to come?" Jay asks, causing Hailey to shake her head. "I got this," Hailey stated, resting her palm on Jay's shoulder before stepping downstairs to see her brother.
When Hailey arrives outside, JJ is glaring at Bailey while facing away. JJ turns around as he hears footsteps and sees Hailey. When Hailey saw his black eye and broken arm, she froze. JJ scoffed, "I'm not doing this," JJ said and started to walk away when Bailey intervened. Hailey gently grabbed JJ's arm, "Bailey, it's okay, I got him," Hailey said as she felt JJ tense up. "Please, can we talk?" Hailey said as JJ turned to face Hailey to see she had tears in her eyes.
Bailey gets into his car and drives away. JJ simply stares at the ground, "did dad-" Hailey cut off, "yep" JJ said. Hailey gazed at JJ. "I'm sorry," Hailey whispered as a tear fell down her cheek, but she immediately wiped it away. "It's not your fault you got away from him," JJ replied. "I just wish you could have taken me with you," JJ added, finally looking at Hailey "I wanted to, I really did" Hailey said, meeting JJ's eyes. "Every time I came to see you, you were always gone. I needed you, and you weren't there," JJ said, finally allowing himself to cry.
Hailey approaches JJ and pulls him into an embrace. "I'm sorry I wasn't there, but I'm here now," Hailey says as JJ pulls her into a deeper hold while crying on her shoulder. Jay comes over to see Hailey and who he assumes is JJ hugging. JJ noticed him and drew away from Hailey, brushing his tears away. Hailey turned around to see Jay standing there, "hey sorry didn't mean to erupt, I just wanted to check to see if everything was okay." Jay said "Everything is fine," Hailey responded with a little smile. Jay approaches them, "I'm Jay, Hailey partner," he says, extending his hand for JJ to shake.
JJ looks at Jay's hand for a moment before shaking it. Pulling his hand away, he takes out his phone to check for missed calls from his mother and father. "I should probably head home," JJ murmured, making Hailey nervous as he turned to leave. "Wait," Hailey interjected, causing JJ to come to a stop. "Why don't you stay with me? It's late and we should talk more. I have an extra room," Hailey said. JJ considered it for a moment before nodding his head yes.
"We can also talk about why you got arrested." JJ uncomfortably laughed as Hailey stated this. "He deserved it," JJ remarked, turning to face Hailey and Jay. "How about you guys talk about it tomorrow?" Jay suggests. "We should probably go home," Jay says, turning to Hailey. "Wait, you guys are together?" JJ said, confused. "Uh yeah," Hailey replied, prompting JJ to give her a thumbs up.
Jay laughed a little and walked away. "You can stay with us as long as you want," Hailey remarked as she walked away from Jay. "I don't know, I don't want to be a third wheel," JJ stated with a smirk, "besides, I got my friends," JJ added, "who aren't a good influence," hailey pointed out, leading JJ to shrug before getting into Jay's truck.
The three of them return to Hailey's and Jay's apartment, where JJ practically passed out on the couch. "Should we—"Jay asked. "No, he's fine where he is," Hailey said, taking a blanket, and covering JJ. Jay enters the bedroom he and Hailey shared. While smiling sadly, Hailey looked at JJ, "I missed you, I'm sorry I wasn't there," hailey said and kissed the top of his head before leaving for the living room. When Hailey walked in, Jay was already laying in bed looking at his phone and put it down, "Are you okay?" Jay asked as he sat up.
"I will be," Hailey said as she slipped a different shirt on. "We will be," Hailey said. "He seem like a good kid," Jay remarked, prompting Hailey to grin. "He is, it's just been rough," Hailey said as she climbed into bed. "Let's head to bed, me and JJ have a lot to talk about," Hailey stated as she lay down, leading Jay to nod and lie down as well, and they both fell asleep after some time.

Headcanons
Pairing: Hailey Upton x Single Father! Former FBI profiler! OC! Kristoff "Kris" Aller
Summary: here
Author's note: these are just some ideas I gathered until I can't come up with the first chapter. I hope you like it
First Stake-out
“You know, you can ask me anything” He seemed comfortable in the passenger’s seat, his voice was serene and low. The night was perfectly still, his slow-moving chest and words being the only proof of life in the whole block. Unlike her, he felt easy, and his breathing was silent and light. His gaze was on the streets, focused but unpreoccupied. Hailey, on the other hand, froze for a second, and her breathing stopped when he suddenly spoke. “It’s easier than following me around, you know.”
She quickly turned to him, and their eyes finally met. Her widened look found his cool expression.
“Why did you do it?”
"I'm uncomfortable with this partnership" Hailey admitted with a sharp voice
"This isn't a partnership." He replied almost immediately. "I'm here for a case. Only one. Then you don't get to see me again."
Hailey sustained their shared gaze — she analyzed his features as he grew unsletted before her light blue eyes.
"I don't think you mean that. Any of it." She stated. " It's useless to ask you anything if you're going to answer with lies."
Kris snorted. "Are you serious?"
"Everything about you seems fake." She argued back "So, yes, I'm serious."
"Hmm." His eyes were burnings hers; his annoyance was clear "Why is that?"
"You have a juvenile record, but almost none reports from the police academy. Several promotions, only compliments, even Platt likes you...On paper, you're a perfect cop, but—"
"I turned it all down." His semblance softened; he shook his head slowly as if her suspicions were perfectly reasonable. "Do you wish to know why?"
For a second, Hailey saw his eyes water, and she was ready to say 'yes' — but Kris turned his face away in reflex. "Someone's here." He whispered, now analyzing the empty streets.
They were not alone.
Context
• At first, Hailey didn't like the idea of Kris becoming her new partner; Technically, he wasn't even suppose to know about the case. For some reason, however, Voight trusted Kris — yet, it didn't mean Hailey would trust him
• "C.I Bishop" that's what Ruzek called him. No long after, Hailey figured out why he had this title: during his patrol days, Kris assigned more C.Is and got confessions for many cases. Suspects would talk to him as if he was a priest in the confessional. No wonder he was selected for the first team of the Special Investigations Unit. Few years later, FBI itself selected him and took him to N.Y
• Voight and Platt treated him with respect and warmth; it was unusual to see Trudy being chatty and asking about his daughters nearly every time Kris passed by; Voight would do the same thing, and worse: many times, he would take Kris to his office for some sort of secretive conversation. Hailey could only watch them
• Adam was willing to be his partner; Torres was making up theories Kris very often agreed with; Voight trusted him completely — and it was clear that Kris wasn't excited about getting a desk for himself. But the Sargent teamed him up with Hailey, and the man occupied Jay's former table with discomfort. They both had to admit, it was awkward
Partnership
• There was something off about him, Hailey could tell. No one could possibly be so balanced, light headed and calm as Kris . No true profiler or police officer could be so easy going while watching and analyzing the most horrible scenes she has ever seen. He looked like a pshyco, staring at the crime scenes and victims with a totally blank face. Another odd thing: he didn't come up with any theories on the first days, even though this was his only job
• He looked, sounded, and behaved like a lie, a fraud. And this case was too important for him to mess everything up. Hailey felt she had no other option: she started to investigate him
• It didn't take long until she figured out: his wife suspiciously passed away four years ago; he left FBI for unknown reasons; he has the guardianship of two girls: Amber, 6, his daughter, and Tessa, 14, his niece. She could find nothing about Tessa's mother. He had brilliant ratings and few complaints. On the paper, he was one of the best police officers Hailey has ever known — who suddenly gave up everything to work at a rehab center. He was either an angel or a demon running from his past
• Another problem: he had a juvenile reccord, which required autorization to be accesed. He came to Chicago when he was 17, and got in trouble just a few days after arriving. The only thing Hailey could discover: Voight took care of his case
A bit more about the plot:
"I have a clue." He spoke out of the sudden as soon as the shift began. His eyes shone with an unsettling energy. "A theory, more precisely." He walked over to the board. "The animal-based accelerator, the abandoned factories and now companies. It's evolving, growing like a story-line." The whole unit looked at Kris with confusion. "I looked up the first arsons again. All the buildings once were public places, hospitals, secretariats, stations and so on." They asked how the companies buildings would fit into that, and he went on "They don't aim at the people, but at what the place symbols. At 3 a.m, they go to old community centers, lock whoever is in up, and set fires to it." Silence again. "Mission-oriented type of serial killers. I'm just missing their manifest." "Why you keep saying them?" The team asked. "It's a group. Probably white, young men, trying to make a statement for the whole town to see." Adam, Kim and Kevin glanced at each other, all of them confused and surprised. Voight, Torres and Upton stared straight at Kris. "I made up a list of possible next targets. They might act tomorrow." Then, without questioning, Voight said "So let's get ready."

A Day Full Of Emotions (Also the first time Jay sees Becca dance) || Jay Halstead x Healstead Sister || Healstead Sister one shot
*re-posting this because I'm stupid and accidentaly delated my blog 🫠
Summary: There is a big art festival happening in Chicago and Becca will dance a solo for the first time in front of people. Jay has to work as a cop and can't be with her all the time as he wished. A bomb explodes in the event and everything becomes a mess. Bomb references to Season 5, episode 2.
Becca is Halstead sister. Remember she's a theatre girl. I might write something short about Hailey and Kim trying to do Becca's hair, because that's cute.
The song Becca is dancing is In- A-Gadda-Da-Vida by Iron Butterfly, but only the part of the drums. Minute 6:29, for a better reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCkHanF4v1w
It was finally Saturday and the weather was perfect to be outside. It seemed like luck was on Becca's side, but she wasn't feeling very happy. In fact, she was feeling sick, nauseated. She laid on bed staring at the ceiling, until someone knocked at the door.
-"Morning, kiddo!" It was Jay. -"I'm sorry to wake you, but it's getting late and I need to get ready to work, so...".
Becca used to sleep in Jay's room whenever she stayed at his place. He always preferred to sleep in the couch, so she could be confortable in a proper bed.
-"Oh, yes. I'm sorry. It didn't crossed my mind". She said while standing up.
-"Don't worry. I'll just grab some clothes and get dressed in the bathroom. You can get ready in here...in fact, why are you still in bed? I have to drop you at your teacher's house on my way to the bullpen".
-"Yeah, about that...". Becca said scratching her eye. -"I don't think I'm going...".
-"What do you mean you are not going?" Jay didn't even let her finish the sentence. -"You've waiting for this day to come".
-"I'm not feeling so good. I have a stomachache and it feels like I'll throw up".
Jay instinctively touched her forehead to feel if she was irritated or had temperature, but everything felt normal. He immediatly knew what was goinng on.
There was a big art carnival happening in Chicago that day and Becca was going to participate in a dance group that would be moving around the park performing in different spots Mobile Dance, they called it. Her teacher gave her a solo and she was ready to do it, but it would be her very first time performing in front of an audience and the idea suddenly freaked her out.
-"You're good. You are just nervous". Jay said smiling.
About an hour later, Jay was helping Becca to put her backpacks inside of the truck, getting ready to leave. She was unusually quiet, but he didn't want to force any conversation.
-"Is Will coming?" Becca asked in the co-pilot seat.
-"I don't think so". Jay sighed. -"He has a shift at the hospital". Jay lied to Becca, not knowing if that last statement was true. He was mad at his brother for always puting their sister aside. He was also tired of lying for him, but he did it to protect Becca's feelings.
There was no reaction from Becca. The silence among them took over again.
-"I'm so sorry I can't go with you through all the stations. Since it is a huge event for the city, Platt asked us to be there patrolling. There's never enough cops for these things".
-"For the millionth time, Jay: don't worry, It's ok. I understand for real".
-"It's just that I don't feel confortable changing plans with you like this". -He continued with guilt.
-"Well, it's not like you won't see me, anyway...".
-"No. I'll be there in the third stop you make, that's the part of the park I'll patrol. I have my event map with the exact place and hour. I'll be in the spot a few minutes after you arrive to make sure to be in the front when people start to gather around".
-"And you won't get in trouble for that?"
-"I asked Platt, she agreed...in fact, she got a bit excited, don't be surprised if you find her among the crowd too". That made Becca blush in embarrassment. She hadn't tought there would be so many known people around. -"I'll be in my uniform, just rememeber that if you look for me".
That made Becca giggle, she always thought her brother looked funny on his police uniform.
-"All right, Bec. We're here". -Jay said while parking the truck. -"Is there any other of your friends coming here before the show?". He tried to ask casually. He didn't like the idea of leaving his little sister alone with someone he barely knew, even though it was her teacher. Anyway, he didn't have any other option, he had to go to work.
Above all, he didn't have the hability to do her artistic make up, nor to comb her hair as it was instructed: to braids up, one on each side. They should stick back to the head forming a circle. The idea was that they looked like horns. He tried, but failed miserably. Kim and Hailey wanted to help and gave it a try but ended up cursing whoever had the idea of that hair style. That's when Becca talked to her teacher and she proposed Jay to take care of her. She knew about Becca's family situation and was genuinely glad to help that little joyful kid.
-"No". Becca answered her brother's question. -"They all are going with their moms". That last piece of information was unnecesary, but she couldn't help it. She had certain grudge inside her chest, though she probably wasn't aware of it. Jay knew better and remained silent, thoughtful.
-"Hey! I will be there!". There was no more he could say.
-"I know". She smiled. That made Becca get out of her own mind.
The carnival was already full of people when Becca and her teacher arrived. They gathered with the dance group a few minutes before it was time to start. She looked around and found Kim among the cops, they waved hello when their eyes met. Burgess immediatly send a text to Jay: I just saw her, everything's ok. She looks fine . As the overprotective brother he was, Jay had his own security plan and the team was helping him to keep on eye on his sister.
As the hour drew near, Jay started to feel a mixure of excitement and nervousness. Involuntarily, he started to approach the place his sister would dance.
-"Isn't a little bit early?" Hailey asked following him.
-"Yeah. I don't know, I guess I don't want to miss it".
-"And you need to make sure she sees you". She guessed.
-"She needs to know someone is here with her, for her".
-"Well, she has a whole elite squad looking after her around the park and waiting to see her perform. She's not precisely alone...but I know what you mean. You are a good brother, she's very lucky to have you".
Jay just stared at Hailey, not knowing how to react or what to say, since he wasn't good dealing with these kind of feelings. The distant voice of a woman caught their attention before the moment became unconfortable. It came from a microphone afar: "...Come, everyone. Follow us to the mobile dance...". She was carrying a speaker.
-"It's them". Jay said looking at the horizon, searching for his sister among the heads of the group that was approaching them. He was nervous and couldn't hide it.
"...We are a dance group created by several institutions, dedicated to spread this art to every corner..."
-"There!" Hailey said pointing at Becca when she found her. -"So that's how the hair was supposed to look, uh". She laughed.
Becca was wearing a black leotard and black tights, nothing more. Her ballerina shoes were color red. She looked relaxed, but Jay didn't buy it, he knew how good she was to hide her feelings and emotions.
A lot of people began to gather while the woman with the microphone invited them to the show. Becca was moving her head from one place to another, eyes wide opened: "He said he would be here!", she said to her teacher. And he was right in front of her, on the other side of the circle that was now formed around the pallet where the dancers would perform. When their eyes met she greeted him effusively.
There was a ballet performance first, something classic with four teen ballerinas; then there was a tap number, a cheerful piece. All of the girls were presented as part of Becca's school, but Jay wasn't really paying attention to any of them, he just applauded by inertia at the end of each song. His anxiety for Becca grew after each number and Hailey noticed, thinking that was a cute gesture coming from a man like him.
-"Now..." -The woman on the microphone spoke. It was time for the third number. -"...presenting a choreography by Martha Bennett...".
-"That's Becca's teacher". Jay tensed up, touching Hailey's shoulder.
-"...Becca Halstead".
Jay's applause was considerably louder than everyone else's while the girl got into position. The music started to play, it was a psychedelic mix with drumbs. She was moving with very precise and abrupt movements, very mesmerizing.
-"Wow!" Hailey expressed. -"I've never seen her like this. She's usually so tiny, cute and shy".
-"I didn't...knew she could do this". Jay answered without taking his eyes off his sister. Many feelings began to form inside of him.
-"She's a whole different person".
When she finished, the public applauded in a normal way. It was Jay and Hailey who did it most effusively, even shouting with excitement. Becca turned to them a little bit embarrased and gave them a forced smile.
"Thank you for staying with us, this is Mobile Dance..." They announced through the microphone when all of the numbers were over. "...Please tag us if you post our dances online...".
As soon as she could, Becca ran to her brother's arms and he hugged her tight, lifting her a little bit.
-"You killed it!" Hailey said to the little girl.
-"Thanks...I actually messed up in like a lot of parts...".
-"Don't be so hard on you! You did great!" Her teacher yelled from a few steps far.
-"I think you were perfect. I'm actually very...impressed". Jay said with pride.
-"You are?"
-"I'm really proud of you". Becca smiled with teary eyes at her brother's statement.
-"Hey! Why don't we take a picture of you two?" Hailey proposed with her cellphone in hand. -"Seems like a day to remember".
Jay and Becca posed to the camera, both showing a bright smile.
-"You should take one with us too". Becca invited her brother's partner.
-"Uh--". She hesitated looking at Jay, who nodded in agreement. -"Sure".
-"There you go!". The lady who helped them take the photo said. -"Sush a beautiful family".
-"I-- should go back to our spot". Hailey said before running away.
At the same time, the dance group was ready to move to the next station. Becca's teacher called her to go.
-"I'll see you later, ok? I'll take you to dinner, whatever you want". He said as Becca was walking to her group. Jay's heart started to beat very fast as he saw his sister depart. -"Be careful, all right?".
The girl just answered with a thumb up. One of the moms in the group noticed the scene and addressed Jay: "Don't worry, Detective. She's not alone. We are taking good care of her!"
At the other side of the festival, Burgess, Atwater and Ruzek were walking the place.
-"So where am I getting these pastries for the boss?" Kim asked with a laugh.
-"Uh, Voight likes Ferrara's". Kevin answered. -"I personally think that Scafuri's better".
-"Is that what you think?"
-"Of course".
-"Ferrara's it is". She concluded.
-"Ferrara's it is". Adam repeated.
Kevin got apart from the group for a few seconds and noticed something strange: a van parking in a closed alley. His instincts told him that something was wrong.
-"Hey, we got a dark van with no plates, 5 o'clock". He said in the radio.
-"All right". Adam answered the call. -"That alley was supposed to be closed to traffic".
Two man got out of the van and started o walk way fom the place.
-"Hey, yo, genteman!" Kevin yelled trying to stop them, but they started to run. The officer ran after them.
-"Kim, you seeing this?" Adam asked.
-"Go! Go!" She said as they reached the van. There was smoke coming from the inside, as soon as they looked out they knew it was a bomb.
-"Son of a bitch! Clear this area and go". Adam ordered. -"I got Kev!".
-"50-21 Eddie. 10-1, 10-1. Roll us a bomb squad. We've a van with a possible explosive device.
Jay and Hailey listened to the call on their radios as an explosion sounded in the distance, alarming averyone around.
-"Shit!". Jay said. -"Let's clear the area".
-"Move! Move! Everybody get out!". Hailey started yelling.
-"Sergeant?" Jay talked to his radio as he was moving people with his free arm. -"My sister was heading to the North part of the park, do you have eyes on her? I need to know if she's ok".
-"Negative" -Platt answered. There was a lot of noise in her background. -"Don't worry, Halstead, I will find her".
As soon as she ended the conversation, she started to look around for the girl, but everything was a mess. People was running around in all directions, it was hard to see their faces. At that point, most of the 21st knew who Becca was, so it was easy for Platt to order some of the cops to be aware in case she crossed their ways.
Minutes later, one of them called on the radio "Sergeant, we found the girl". The crowd had already thinned, as most of the civilians had been evacuated, so it was easy for Platt to find them.
-"Thank God!" She exclaimed when she saw the little Halstead sitting under a tree.
-"We found her on the floor. She's a bit hurt, but nothing to worry about. She must have fallen while running, some people stepped on her". The cop informed. -"She wasn't alone, she was with her teacher. It was hard to convince the lady to go".
-"All right". Platt sighed. -"I'll take care of this now. Thank you, guys!"
-"Becca, it's Trudy. Do you remember me? Your brother sent me to find you. Are you feeling all right? I heard you were a bit hurt".
-"I feel a little bit dizzy, but I'm ok".
-"I think we should go to the hospital to check you, just to make sure everything is really ok".
-"No, I---Where's Jay?"
-Your brother is working right now. They got a heavy case and he needs to be there with the team. He's very worried about you, and I promised him I would find you and take care of you. So, would you let me take you to The Med? I will be right to your side all the time, I promise".
The next thing Becca knew was that she woke up in a different place. She was lying down in a sofa, facing the wall. As her eyes began to slowly open, she heard a distant conversation: "The doctor was worried for the hits in the head, but she said there is no damage, appart from some bruises and scratches she's completely fine. She asked me to call your father to know if he was home, and also to let him know she was fine. She didn't want him to pick her up, tough. She waited for you."
She turned around when she heard a door open and some foot steps approaching. Thet's when she noticed she wasn't wearing her dance clothes anymore. Instead, she was wearing a gray sweater with the CPD logo printed on the front. That's when she realized she was in the bullpen, the coffee room to be precisely, it looked so different at night with the lights off.
-"Hey there, sleepy beauty". Jay said crouching down to her level. -"I was told you were waiting for me. Sorry for the delay".
-"What time is it?" Becca asked standing up.
-"Hey, hey, hey, slow down. You hit your head, you gotta take it easy. How are you feeling?".
-"I'm fine, I'm just sleepy and tired. Sergent Platt took me to the hospital, The Med. Guess what: Will wasn't there". She said simply, while stretching her arms. Jay stared at his sister with sorrow.
-"Come on. I'll take you home, you need to rest properly". He stood up, but the girl didn't follow him. She just stared at the floor, immersed in her toughts.
-"Bec...".
-"Yeah, sure. I'm coming".
It was strange for Becca to see the building that empty. There was not a soul in the reception, except for Trudy, who was already leaving, and Hailey who was waiting for Jay to give her a ride.
-"Look at you, girl. Rocking the CPD sweater". Hailey said hugging her with one arm as they walked to the exit.
-"Can I keep it?"
-"Of course you can, sweetheart. It suits you well". Platt said with a smile.
-"I can't thank you enough for today, Trudy. Really, thanks for taking care of her".
-"Don't worry. It was my pleassure, Jay".
Jay was at the wheel driving unusually slow, Hailey was his co-pilot. Becca was in the back seat, her head agains the window. The road was dead silent. It could be because it was late and everyone was tired, but Jay knew her sister was holding something, that she wanted to say it but didn't know how to.
-"It was a day full of emotions, uh?" Hailey threw the question into the air. She was also feeling the tension between the siblings.
-"Yes it was". Becca answered with a dry tone.
Hailey turned to look at Jay, as he looked at his sister through the mirror.
-"Ok, Bec. Talk to me, what's on your mind?" He asked tenderly, not caring about his partener's presence.
-"He was there, Jay". Becca spit it out.
-"Who?" He was very intrigued.
-"Dad". She answered after a few seconds of silence.
-"Where?"
-"In the park. Dad was in the festival. He saw me dancing, Jay". Becca frowned. She had to wipe away a few tears before they rolled down her cheeks. She didn't want them to see her cry about it.
Without noticing, Jay started to drive even slower, his mind going in circles. Hailey passed her hand to the back part of the truck to touch Becca's knee in a reassuring gesture.
-"Here we are". Jay sighed as he parked the truck in the usual spot, away from the house. -"Hey, today's plans were ruined, but we can have luch tomorrow". He turned to his sister. -"You choose what you want. We can also have a movie day if you wan to".
-"I like that". She smiled. -"Can I stay with you tomorrow?".
-"Sure. Just make sure you grab your uniform. For now, let's go, you shouldn't be out of bed. I'll walk you to the porch". When he got out of the car, he turned to the co-pilot seat: "Sorry for the waiting. It won't take long, Hails".
They were in the middle of the street when the door of the house suddenly opened. Both of the siblings freezed, their dad was there, standing in the door frame. Jay felt a heat inside of him that didn't let him move, he only reacted when Becca touched his hand.
-"It's ok. I can carry my bags". She said as she took them carefully from her brother. -"You don't have to say or explain anything. I know".
Becca hugged her brother goodbye: "See you tomorrow. Don't forget!". And she walked to the entrance, nervously.
Unwittingly, Jay was giving small steps back, until he made sure that the little girl crossed the fence and he turned back straight to the truck. Hailey saw everything, and even when she was not so sure of what was going on, she felt sympathy with his partner.
The two detectives stared to the front, watching how Becca was received by her dad. She stopped in front of him, they were having a small conversation. Jay was in a defensive position, ready to act if he needed to. Unexpectedly, they witnessed how Mr. Halstead hugged his daughter for a fragment of sencond. From the distance, Jay could tell Becca was crying. He was also submerged in a sea of feelings.
-"A day full of emotions indeed, wasn't it?" Hailey broke the silence when the door of the house closed. She had a very strong impulse of hugging him, as if she knew he needed that kind of containment.
-"Yes is was". Jay answered swallowing his tears.
-"Want a beer and talk/not talk about it?" She offered.
-"Yeah. That would be helpful".
Thanks for reading. If you liked it, it would help my soul if you give it a like, comment or share 😌♡

Departure
Pairing: jay halstead x reader
Summary: Jay is y/n husband and he left her for eight months to go to Bolivia. When he came back, he couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw his wife again
Warning: none i guess, maybe a little bit of angst
English is not my first language, sorry if there’s some mistakes!
~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•
When your husband came home that day asking you to sit down on the couch, you didn’t think that he was going to say what he actually said. You two worked at Intelligence for four years and you didn’t think possible for him to change the way he did. When you first met him you immediately knew that he was kind, gentle and a good cop: you knew that he would have done everything to help innocents and to stop criminals, you knew that he was a good person.
And then something changed.
You didn’t know if that was because of his partner, Hailey Upton, or because of Voight; you just knew that you didn’t recognize him anymore. You even talked about it with Adam, your partner, but you weren’t able to find a way to help him get through that.
You just wanted him to be happy again, you just wanted him to be himself again.
That’s why you let him go.
When he told you that he accepted the job in Bolivia you couldn’t believe it, you just couldn’t.
Was he running away from the unit or was he running away from you?
You didn’t know what was true, but you couldn’t just deny him to be happy again: if he needed to go, you would have let him go.
And that’s exactly what you did.
“It will be for eight months maybe a little longer, okay? I will be back home soon.” He said that day, kissing your forehead with glossy eyes. “I love you… i really do but i need to do this. Please don’t be angry with me, i’ll come back to you, i promise. You’re the love of my life, y/n.”
When he left some minutes later to take his flight, you fell on the ground, crying; you needed him near you, you needed him there with you but you just couldn’t deny him to be himself again.
That’s why you didn’t tell him the truth.
That’s why you hid it from him.
When Kim knocked at your door that night after having heard about Jay, you let her in and you just walked back to the couch, where you cried all day.
“Y/n…” she whispered, walking towards you and hugging you tightly. “It’s okay. It’s temporary, right? He will come back, okay?”
You didn’t say anything, you didn’t nod or shook your head in response, you just kept crying again and again and then, after some minutes, you spoke.
“We perfectly know that he can die there.” You said, finally telling the truth, finally admitting out loud what you had in your mind all day since he talked to you.
“Oh, y/n…” she kept hugging you and she also placed her hand on your shoulder, trying to reassure you in some way. She wanted to say something, she wanted to help you go through all of that but her eyes fell on it.
It was on the table in front of the couch, exactly where you placed it after Jay left.
“What’s that?” She asked, keeping her eyes on the small object; she reached it and she looked at the result when you didn’t complain about it, then she looked up at you, shocked. “You’re pregnant?”
You wanted to cry, you wanted to scream, you wanted be alone in your thoughts, but Kim was there trying to help you and you really appreciated that, that’s why you just nodded, answering her.
“Does Jay know about it? Did He really leave you here alone knowing that you’re pregnant?”
Kim knew the answer deep down, she knew that Jay wouldn’t have left you there knowing that you were pregnant but she needed to know it for sure; when you shook your head saying “no”, she hugged you tighter.
“Oh, darling.” She whispered, caressing your back slowly and gently. “You should’ve told him, Y/n, i’m sure he wouldn’t have left knowing that.”
You sobbed, then you looked up at her and you shook your head again.
“T-That’s why i-i d-din’t tell him. He needed t-to go Kim, i c-couldn’t stop him.”
“But he had the rights to know the truth before taking such a decision!” She replied, shaking her head in disagreement.
“When he came here telling me about the job in Bolivia he already took it, he accepted it without even talking about it with me. I would have told him if he hadn’t already accepted it. He told me that he had a flight in few hours, how could i have told him? I know, after all, that he’s lost. He’s not himself anymore and, if taking that job is going to help him, then i will accept it. He said, after all, that’s only for eight months.” You said, even if he said that there was the possibility that he needed to stay a little longer. “When he will be back home, i will still be pregnant and he will be able to be here when our baby is born.”
Kim didn’t agree with you but you was still shocked, that’s why she didn’t say anything: she just hugged you, promising you that she would have help you.
And she did, as all your unit.
Kim, Adam, Hailey, Kevin, Hank and also Trudy helped how they could.
In the next months they helped you, they came to your house to keep you company and they accompanied you to the hospital every time you needed to do a visit.
You were never alone after all, but you knew, however, that the most important person for you wasn’t there. You couldn’t blame him since you didn’t tell him the truth, but still you missed him so much.
Your baby was healthy but he, or she, wasn’t ready to be born yet, even if one week passed since the due date.
In some ways you were relieved because you really wanted Jay to be there when you would’ve become a mother. Every single time someone knocked at your door or every single time your phone rang, you panicked, afraid that something happened to your husband while he was still in Bolivia. You didn’t talked to him in the last few months, mostly because you didn’t want to distract him during a mission and because you were always afraid of blowing his cover.
That’s why you hardly talked to him or contacted him on the phone, and he did the same thing for the same reasons.
Until you didn’t hear anything about him from the army, you knew that he was okay, you knew that he was still alive. And every day you kept going on, holding on this thought, holding on the fact that no one called you, so he had to be safe, he had to be alive.
You didn’t know when he would’ve returned home, but you just hoped that it was soon; you couldn’t get through labor without him by your side.
That day you was ready to go to the hospital for another visit with your gynecologist. You asked Adam to come with you and he immediately accepted; that’s why, when you heard someone knocking at your door, you thought it was him.
“C-Coming.” You said, trying to get up from the couch where you were waiting for him. Your belly was so big that it was difficult for you to get up easily. “Just give me one minute, i’m trying to get up from the couch.”
At the other side of the door there was not at all Adam, there was Jay with his bag on the shoulder, happy to be home again, happy to be able to see his wife again. But when he heard you saying that she was having difficulties getting up from the couch, he froze, thinking that you might have been hurt at work.
Before he could say anything, the door opened in front of him and he immediately looked at his wife; he was left speechless, standing in front of the door frame, looking at his wife that was definitely pregnant.
“J-Jay?” You whispered, shocked. You didn’t expect him to be there, you thought that he would have informed you before coming home, but he was there, in front of you in all his beauty. Being so far from him for almost nine months was hard for you: you went through hell alone, especially when you almost lost your baby, and having him in front of you was like a dream. You definitely thought that you were still dreaming.
“You’re pregnant.” He said, unable to look away from your belly. He let go the bag that he had on his shoulder, letting it fall to the ground. He couldn’t believe his eyes, he just couldn’t believe it. “Am i the father?”
That was the first thing that popped into his mind when he saw you and he immediately regretted saying that out loud when he saw your face.
“What do you mean? Are you really thinking that i slept with someone else just right after your departure? You’re my fucking husband, of course you’re the father.”
You were so angry.
You didn’t even realize it till that moment.
You were so angry because he left you alone with a baby in your belly, even if he didn’t know it, even if it wasn’t his fault since you decided not to tell him the truth. But you were definitely angry: he stayed away for so long and the first thing that he asked you is if you got pregnant with someone else?
“Why didn’t you tell me? I would have come back!” He said after few moments, still standing in front of the door, still shocked by the news.
“You took the job before asking me what i thought about it, what did i have to do? You didn’t even took one day to talked with me! You came here, saying that you were going to Bolivia and that you had a flight that same day!“
Jay knew that coming back home wouldn’t have been easy, he knew that you would’ve been upset and you had all the rights to be angry with him, but he definitely didn’t expect to come home and find you pregnant.
“Wait, did you know you were pregnant when i left?!”
You froze, then you stepped back and you invited him to enter the apartment, to talk about it privately.
Jay immediately came in, leaving the bag on the ground, completely focused on his wife. You closed the door behind you two and you leaned against the kitchen counter, sighing.
Jay, even if he was mad at you, immediately walked towards you and helped you; then he took a chair and he invited you to sit down, placing an hand on your shoulder and caressing you gently. You appreciated it but you perfectly knew that you two have still to talk about it.
“Yes.” You answered after that, placing an hand on your own belly, caressing it gently and feeling the baby kicking you hard. “I discovered it the same morning you accepted the job. I wanted to tell you when you came home but you talked first and I couldn’t tell you after that.”
Jay couldn’t believe his ears, he couldn’t believe that his wife hid something important like a baby from him for almost nine months. You should have told him, you should have told him the truth because he wouldn’t have left knowing that you were pregnant with his baby.
“You should have told me, Y/n!” He wasn’t able to control himself, he just yelled at you and, after that, he regretted it. You slightly jumped on the chair, with tears running down your cheeks. You knew that, you knew that he had all the rights to be angry with you but you weren’t prepared for this. You just wanted him to be home because you needed him but you never thought about how he would’ve reacted at the news. You had time to prepare yourself to become a mother and then he came home and discovered that he’s going to become a father in what, few days?
“I’m sorry.” He immediately told you, kneeling in front of you and placing his hands on your arms. “I’m sorry i yelled, it’s just that…. I wanted to know, I wanted to be here with you.”
You sobbed and cried, especially when his hands touched you after all that time. You missed him so much.
“I know.” You sobbed, looking at him. “I’m sorry, i wanted to tell you but I know that you wouldn’t left and… you said you needed it, I couldn’t stop you from that. I just wanted you to be happy again, I couldn’t see you so sad here. And… when you came here saying that you accept the job in Bolivia… i just couldn’t take it away from you. You were right saying that i had to let you go, i saw it in your eyes.”
Jay caressed your arms slowly and gently, then he leaned closer and he kissed your forehead.
“I’m sorry i left you alone.” He said, softly. And it was true. All the time, when he was in Bolivia for his new job, he thought about you and he felt guilty because he knew that you were alone, he knew that you would probably have been hurt. That’s why he asked Kim, Adam, Kevin and Hailey to be near you in case you needed them.
“Well, i wasn’t alone, was i?” You smiled softly through your tears; you took his hands and placed them on your belly the moment you felt your baby kicking. “He, or she, was with me all the time.”
Jay felt the kick against his palms and his eyes immediately filled with tears.
“Say hi to your daddy.” You whispered, apparently talking to your baby while looking at Jay in the eyes.
Jay wanted to say something, wanted to kiss your belly and whispered something to it like he was talking to your baby, but before he could say something, you moaned in pain.
“What’s wrong?” He immediately asked, concerned. “Is everything okay, babe?”
You looked down at yourself when you felt your legs wet.
“Oh no.” You whispered.
Jay looked at you, confused. “What’s happening?”
You looked at him and moaned in pain.
“ i think I’m in labor.”
“Fuck.” He said, placing an hand on his mouth after that. “I’m sorry, i swore in front of the baby!”
You giggled and shook your head but you were interrupted by the first contraction; you moaned in pain and you looked up at him.
“Hospital.” You whispered and he nodded.
“Hospital.” He agreed. “Holy shit, I’m going to be a father.”
“Jay.” You said while he took the car keys and the labor bag you prepared some weeks ago; he came back to you and he helped you get to your feet.
“I’m sorry!” He said, referring to his previous words.

Beyond the Badges
The ongoing series based on "Hank Voight and the Crackhead Detective." Co-Authored by @creativeimagination206 and @andgry4, with included drawings by @andgry4.
If you haven't read "Hank Voight and the Crackhead Detective," now is the time to jump into this series from the beginning - Follow Hank, Trudy, Al and their misadventures from their academy and beat days. Then, see how their lives intertwine with that of Katelyn Meyers, leading up to the story that started it all, as well as the fate of these characters after that story ends. :)
Find the full AO3 synopsis and link below the cut:
The universe around the story that started it all - "Hank Voight and the Crackhead Detective."
This universe will dive into headcanon of the "three shits" [Trudy Platt, Henry Voight, Alvin Olinsky] and their early (mis)adventures together. Their past intertwines closely with that of the original "crackhead detective," Katelyn Meyers.
Katelyn herself has her own story to tell - how she came to be the "crackhead detective" and why it's so important to her that she sticks with Trudy, Hank and Al, even after the "torture" is over. She is found in all sorts of situations, both before and after the original story. She falls in love with Adam Ruzek and the two create a life together, despite hardships that are thrown their way.
This story is a comprehensive timeline of the lives of these characters, but not only that, it is a story of hope, that your life can be something more than what is written in the stars. Your life isn't defined by the cards you're dealt - it's how you play those cards that matters the most.

“Get to Med… Jay’s been shot.”
As she waits in the waiting room at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center, the sound of her sergeant’s words echoes in her ears. Her heart is racing, her knee is bouncing, her hands are trembling, and dried up tear streaks run down her face. She feels like she’s been sitting in the room for an eternity, waiting for any news about her husband’s condition. He was already in surgery by the time she got at the hospital, which was a little more than two hours ago.
“Y/N!” she hears her partner, Kim Burgess, call out as she approaches her. When the brunette reaches her, she embraces her tightly.
After Jay and Y/N revealed their relationship to Voight, the two women became partners. They’ve been like sisters since they went through the academy together, and they got even closer after Y/N and Hailey Upton were transferred to Intelligence after Erin Lindsey left.
“Has there been any news?”
“I haven’t heard anything; Will just went to see if he can get an update,” she says before breaking down again. “I can’t lose him, Kim,” she cries into the shoulder of her best friend. “I can’t do it without him. We just got married. I can’t be without him.”
“Jay’s strong; he’ll get through this,” Kim reassures her as she rubs her back and squeezes her even tighter; it crushes her heart to see her best friend and chosen sister like this.
“Did you get the person who shot him?” she says, pulling away from Kim and angrily wiping away the fresh set of tears that are falling. The anger in eyes and voice wasn’t intended for her partner, or Adam who had been with Jay at the time of the shooting, or the rest of their team but at the guy who fired the gun at her husband and shot him. She begged Hank to give her five minutes with the person when they apprehended him, but Hank ordered her to stay at the hospital because that’s where she needed to be the most and swore he wouldn’t go easy with the guy.
Kim replies, moving to sit in the chair next to the one she was in, “He’s in custody. Voight’s making his life a living hell, I’m sure of it.”
She sits back down next to her and asks, “How’s Ruz?”
“He’s blaming himself,” Kim replies. “He’ll be here when he’s cleaned himself up, and the others will be here after they’ve finished with the interrogation.”
She nods, letting Kim know she heard her.
Minutes pass as they sit in quiet, Kim holding her hand and reminding her that she is not alone. Will eventually returns and informs her that there haven’t been any updates just yet before he leaves once more to grab them all some coffee.
Just as Will comes back with Adam following behind him, the surgeon walks into the waiting room.
As he approaches, Y/N and Kim get to their feet. As the doctor begins to talk, Will moves to stand next to his sister-in-law. “Surgery went smoothly. We removed the bullet, stopped the bleeding, and repaired the damage the bullet caused. Jay will make a full recovery, but he will need to take it easy for some time.”
Y/N exhales with relief, “I’ll make sure he does. Can we see him?”
“Two at a time,” the doctor says with a nod.
“Adam and I will go update everyone,” Kim says to her and Will before exiting the waiting room with Adam.
The doctor leads Will and Y/N to the room where Jay has been moved. Jay opens his eyes and looks sleepily at his wife and brother as soon as they enter the room.
“Oh, baby,” Y/N breathes as she walks over to his bed and takes his hand in hers, looking at him with tenderness. “Please don’t put me through that again.”
“I can’t make any promises,” he says drowsily with a small smile. He raises her hand and kisses the back of it.
“How are you feeling?” Will asks as he stands beside Y/N.
Jay jokes with a slight smirk on his lips, “Like I was shot.
Y/N scowls at him, not in the mood for jokes right now, and says, "Don’t joke.”
“You love me, and you know it,” he gives her a small smile letting her know he’s teasing her.
“I need to get back to work, but I’ll stop by after my shift,” Will tells his brother, stopping Y/N from that is retaliating. “I’ll make sure to bring you some decent food.”
“Thank you, Will,” she says as he exits the room. Looking back at her husband, she sits on the edge of the hospital bed, clutching his hand on her lap. “I was so scared I would lose you.”
“I’m not going anywhere,” he assures her. “We still have a lot to do together.”
She leans down and gives him a soft kiss while whispering, “I love you.”
“I love you too,” he replies as he kisses her again. “Now, come lie down with me.”
“You’ve just gotten out of surgery. I don’t want to cause you more pain.”
“They’ve got me on the good stuff, honey, and after what I just went through, all I want to do is hold my wife and remind her that us Halstead’s aren’t easy to take down,” he says and pulls her close to him, moving them so she can lay down beside him.
With his arm across her shoulders and her head on his, he presses a kiss to her forehead and whispers, “I promised you forever. I’m keeping that promise.”
