not a request, just a little treat in the parenting genre
Atsumu got this in the bag. Getting his two perfect children ready for the first day of school after summer? No problem at all.
“Whoa, what?!” Atsumu was preparing lunches in the kitchen when one of the twins ran in with the other in tow. The girl was chasing the boy, who happily ran away in a pink dress.
“I’m wearing that today!” the girl screamed, no sense of indoor voice to be seen. Or heard. The boy laughed.
“Too bad it looks better on me!” To be fair, his son did slay in dresses. But Atsumu knows his daughter really loves that particular one. As in, it brings luck on first days.
“Get that dress off right now, mister!” Now they were all yelling. “You know yer sister wanted to wear that dress today, give it back.”
“Nu-uh!”
Atsumu does not have this in the bag. Getting his two perfect children ready for the first day of school after summer? Big problem.
By the time he caught up to his kids – at the same time his age caught up to him based on how his spine complained up the stairs – they were pulling each other’s hair on the floor of their parents' bedroom. Atsumu took a deep breath in before putting on his serious dad-voice.
“Both of you. Settle down. NOW.”
The kids barely even noticed he was there.
He will be apologising to his mother again next time he sees her. Twins are a nightmare.
"I'll tell your mom!" Atsumu stomped his foot childishly when they looked up at him with wide eyes. "Why did that work?!"

Suga: you know really when you think about it you should be the mom.
Daichi: ???? what do you mean????
Suga: everyone calls you the Dad but, like, you know everyone's birthdays, allergies, which classes they're failing. You're clearly the mom. I should be the dad.
Daichi: You should be the dad??? Based on what???
Suga: Doing the absolute bear minimum and getting praised for it.
Daichi:
Suga: I gave Hinata a fruit cup once and he hasn't stopped talked about how kind and considerate and well prepared I am.
Daichi:
Suga:
Daichi: Is that where that went?
Suga: yeah I took it out of your bag.
Daichi: I thought I was going crazy.

thinking of little omi wanting a dog but his parents tell him he has to earn it because it's a big responsibility for someone as young as he is. so, he sets up a piggy bank to save up for adoption fees. he doesn't tell his parents about it because he wants to show them when he's saved up enough money.
surely if he has the money that means he's responsible enough right?
in the following months, omi sets aside a fraction of his daily allowance to put into his piggy bank.
it's slow-going until his siblings find the piggy bank labeled with "dog savings" in omi's messy scrawl. they're so charmed by their baby brother's antics that they slip in their own spare change behind omi's back.
they never tell him of course because knowing their brother —their sweet and earnest little brother — he would want to do this on his own.
by the time omi's 10th birthday comes, his piggy bank is practically bursting at the seams. he holds it tightly in his little hands as his family sings him a happy birthday.
when it's time to blow out the candles and he has to make a wish, he lifts up the piggy bank and tells his parents how he's been saving up the past few months. that he has enough to pay for the adoption fees. that he's 10, and he's a big boy now, ready for big boy responsibilities.
"i'm responsible enough for a dog now, right?" he would then ask, eyes bright with earnest hope he tries so hard to tamp down just in case they say no. his parents would exchange surprised looks followed immediately by shaking heads and laughter. lots of laughter. omi is rightfully confused. he frowns.
are they laughing at him? the thought makes him flush in embarrassment. his dad leaves the room, still laughing. when he comes back, it's with a box that's almost a little too big for omi. the birthday cake lays forgotten, candles melted, as omi looks curiously at the box in front of him, then to his parents, and then his siblings, and then back to the box.
his older brother nudges him to open it and when he does, omi doesn't know what to do with himself. the akita puppy yipping at him in the box was too much for 10-year-old omi to bear that he starts bawling.
he's hugging the puppy to hide his tears, and in the background he hears cooing and more birthday wishes from his family.
see, his parents had always intended to give omi a dog the moment he asked. omi rarely asked for anything so whenever he did, his parents were always more than ready and excited to give it to him. however, this time, they waited until his birthday because, admittedly, they had a hard time thinking of what to get him.
it seems they made the right decision watching their son pet the akita in quiet awe. they're happy that their little boy loved his birthday present but when they see his dejected little pout a little while later followed by a sad, "i saved for nothing then..." they knew they had to make right with him (not really but what is omi if not their precious youngest).
and that's how omi ends up with not one but two puppies for his 10th birthday.

02:42 a.m. — daddy's day out
AKAASHI KEIJI is usually calm and collected. He always think three steps ahead and has several backup plans in case something goes wrong. Some would say he's stoic, almost emotionless—until he became a dad.
Although he's busy with several projects at hand, he never failed to pay attention to his family. He's a dedicated husband and a doting father to his son. To strengthen his bond with his child, he requested to have a dedicated day for them to bond.
However, during one of those days, something inevitable happened: your son's first vaccination.
It was an event you wanted to spend with them, but you were also stuck at your workplace where heaps of tasks awaits you.
“will he be fine? i've read several articles online and also asked some of my colleagues about their children's first vaccination, but i don't think it prepared me enough...”
the doctor and her assistant smiled as they prepare the materials they'll use for this session. the doctor explained the process and gave him an idea of what might happen afterwards.
keiji nodded his head while listening attentively to her response. his son, atsuki, has always been a calm child just like his dad—and sometimes, it makes you and akaashi worry about him.
“ah... i can't look...” he whispered while keeping atsuki's right arm from flailing around. “i'm so nervous...”
atsuki tried to turn his head towards the doctor, but her assistant was quick to keep his head in place.
“he'll be fine,” the doctor responded calmly while applying holding the syringe close to your son's arm. she insert the needle in his chubby arm while the assistant hands over a plaster towards the doctor.
the deafening silence was ended when atsuki began to wail. akaashi kissed the top of his head while soothing his back.
“it's okay...”
akaashi himself couldn't stop his own tears from falling after hearing him wail in pain. “it's for your own good, atsu-kun,” he whispered while peperring the top of your son's hair with featherlight kisses.
“one vaccine done.”
akaashi looked at the doctor, terrified. his slowly calming heart began to race. “there's more?!”
“it's the last one... today, at least.”
he was horrified.
needless to say, you both agreed to make time whenever your son's getting vaccinated. because neither of you has to go through all that alone.

Iwazumi seems like he’d have the coolest parents in the world. His parents probably listens to a mix of 80s city Japanese music, 90s hip-hop, and I’m gonna head cannon that they went to Woodstock 99 and listens to some metal. I also love the idea of Iwaizumis mom being like 4’11 at a metal show in like 1990 sitting on her husbands shoulders. (They were at woodstock 99 for their 10 year anniversary)

something so important to me for no reason is that msby 4 all have siblings !! but also they must have WILDLY different sibling experiences and relationships. like atsumu is of course a twin, hinata is the an older bro, bokuto is such a younger girl brother, and this isn't really confirmed but i always think sakusa's older siblings have a big age gap with him. so sometimes one of them will be like "only people with siblings understand" and they'll all collectively agree. but sometimes one of them will be like "oh you guys have siblings you get it right" and the others are like what the actual fuck are you talking about. like atsumu's the type to be like "lol me and samu chased each other around w a knife yk sibling things ! " or mention twin telepathy and the others are like no what. hinata is the only one who gets what it's like to be an older sibling (atsumu interjects that he does too since he's the older twin but he's full of shit). bokuto and sakusa being so obviously the youngest child. atsumu knowing absolutely nothing about women and bokuto knowing the most.

You know that meme of Prince Charming and Rapunzel from Shrek where it's like
"Pookie, you promised you wouldn't hurt him.."
"Not here kitten whiskers, daddy will discuss it later!"
That's you and Kuroo. It's quoted at the very least once every week bc it was totally one of the first movies you watched as a couple and it's such a classic, how could you not quote it?

Limited vocabulary
Your son comes to work with his dad Ushijima, for my Parenting event<3
requested by @iatethemochi. word count; 314 – gn!reader
Tumblr media
After a victorious game in the Polish volleyball league, Ushijima opened his arms for you to run into with your toddler.
Pressing a kiss to your head and then your lips when you looked up, Ushijima carefully picked his baby up out of your arms, happily smiling at his excited babbling.
As he took your hand, about to lead you away from the crowd, an interviewer caught up and the camera was on you three before you could attempt to protest.
“Ushijima, great game! How is your family doing, will there be a celebration tonight?” the interviewer rambled before briskly turning the microphone to the tall athlete, urging him to answer everything she just pressed into one breath.
But as he took a second to register her words, your son started babbling away again as if they were coherent sentences, making hand gestures and grabbing at the microphone. It made you laugh before taking it out of the toddler’s grip so he couldn’t start biting and drooling all over the professional equipment.
Ushijima watched his son with what the fans would probably deem as an unusual amount of emotion for him, while you squeezed the toddler’s cheek and giggled, apologising to the interviewer.
“Please excuse my son, his vocabulary is still limited,” Ushijima said in his deep voice, which undoubtedly would become an iconic TikTok clip in the coming days. “We are doing very well, thank you.”
And with that line, the man took your hand again and led his family out and home.
His PR manager praised him for the funny line later, but Ushijima simply answered that he would rather keep the media away from his family even when his son did start talking.
“That’s a difficult task if they keep coming to your games,” the manager said. “The interviewers can be very persistent.”
“I’m not worried. I will protect my family.”

Ushijima's lefthandedness falls so easily into a metaphor for autism or neurodivergence that it's almost not worth explaining but I cannot help but feel that an eight year old Wakatoshi, overhearing his parents fighting about "correcting him" or "something being wrong with him" and his father making this his hill-to-die-on and literally giving up his vote in any future family matters (almost certainly leading to their eventual divorce) could only have interpreted this as an issue with his left hand, and maybe that was a pleasant and easy lie his father had encouraged, since telling him the truth (that his mother wanted to send him to some quack doctor insisting they could cure his autism, or send him away to a behaviour correction 'camp', or whatever traditional "fix" for autism they could find) was just too much for him to stomach. Ushijima probably wouldn't have questioned this narrative, repeats it back over and over and over again. He's sitting on the floor, colouring in his pictures as his father begs his mother to understand that "the things that make him different could be his greatest strength" and he just looks down at his left hand and goes "yeah, well, that is what's different about me" and never even thinks it could have been any worse than that.

It is rare for Oikawa and Iwaizumi not to meet in Japan, but when they don't, their parents always try to make it more pleasant. So when Tooru receives a message from Iwaizumi's mother inviting him to stay over just two days after landing, he smiles tenderly and informs his parents.
He doesn't take anything from home. Hajime's wardrobe still has a corner with his clothes, and in the bathroom there are still his creams, shampoo, hair gels and headbands.
There is something of Tooru in Hajime's, just as there is something of Hajime in Tooru's.
He spends the day with his second mother, who greets him with a warm, sweet hug. Then comes his second father, who gives him those bear hugs that lift him off the ground and make him laugh like he did when he was two years old.
"Welcome home, sweetheart," they tell him, because for more than two decades now, sorry for the intrusion has become I'm home.
They have dinner together, share anecdotes, and, accompanied by tea, watch a 12-episode series. Oikawa and Mama-Iwa comment aloud, while Papa-Iwa is so engrossed that, when they finish it, he is indignant at not having a second season to watch.
After discussing the plot, they say their goodnights. Kaori kisses his forehead, Shota ruffles his hair, and they both wish him sweet dreams.
Entering Hajime's room and closing the door behind him feels like stepping back into the reality he wanted to ignore. Tooru's shoulders slump, and the weight in his heart returns as his eyes wander around the bedroom.
The bed is still the same, covered with the sushi-print duvet he gave Hajime for his birthday. The shelves are somewhat empty, with a few Lego figures scattered around, books that couldn't make the journey, and a couple of pictures featuring old photographs of Hajime with his parents and extended family. Where dozens of Polaroids used to hang above the headboard, only one remains: it's Tooru, smiling brightly at the camera, his hair tousled as he hugs the stitch plush Iwaizumi gave him. On the desk are pens with barely any ink, worn pencils, and the wireless mouse he forgot to take with him. A Godzilla poster adorns the wall, a deflated volleyball rests in one corner, and Aoba Johsai's jacket hangs up.
Oikawa takes a deep breath and pushes himself away from the door to shuffle towards the bathroom. He brushes his teeth and cleans his face, slow and lazy. He returns to the bedroom and opens the wardrobe, but only Hajime's part. It's almost empty, but a dark oversize shirt hangs on the rack. It smells so much like Iwaizumi's cologne, with that hint of his fresh deodorant spray, that when Oikawa swipes it over his head, he almost groans. He doesn't bother to put on trousers, stays in his boxers and finally sinks under the duvet.
The pillow smells like Hajime, and Tooru curls up, wishing he could sink into it. Missing him feels like drowning. He wonders what Hajime is doing now. Whether or not he has got out of bed. Whether he's gone for a run. If he has made a smoothie last night or will do it later. Whether he's preparing the lessons for his favourite group. Whether he's thinking about him as much as Tooru thinks about Hajime. If it's just as hard for him when they don't see each other. If he thinks Oikawa's a bad boyfriend for choosing to pursue his life's dream over him. If Hajime wants to stay with hi—.
His mobile vibrates on the bedside table, startling Oikawa out of his reverie. He quickly reaches out and grabs his phone.
Hajime 🤎🦔
babe, u still awake?
facetime?
Tooru doesn't even respond, he initiates the call. His heart races as it did during their first kiss. Three seconds later, Hajime's face, with a soft smile and narrowed eyes, fills his screen. Suddenly, breathing is much easier, and the weight on his chest lightens.
Oikawa smiles back, genuine and sweet.
“Hey, babe.”
“Hey, darling-chan.”
“Are you in my bed?”
“Mmh.” Oikawa nods, stretching his arm upward to widen the angle before making a peace gesture with his free hand, his smile widening.
Hajime laughs, his voice flowing through the speaker, somewhat distorted.
“I hope you're not drooling all over my pillow again.”
“Rude, Iwa-chan, I don’t drool!” He protests childishly, sticking his tongue out as he settles sideways, placing his mobile where Hajime would be.
At the same time, Iwaizumi does the same from his bed in Irvine, snorting in amusement.
“Oh, yes you do, Tooru.”
“Well, I’d rather drool than snore.”
“I don’t do that.” He frowns.
“Oh, yes you do, Hajime,” Tooru mimics his voice, grinning victoriously when Iwaizumi pulls out his middle finger.
They tease some more, gazing at each other with smiles painted on their faces. Oikawa tells him all about what he did today, describing how delicious dinner was and sharing the plot of the series he watched with Iwa's parents. Iwaizumi tells him all about what he has planned for today, detailing the fifty-question Kahoot he’s prepared for his favorite group and the amusing tale of how Jacob managed to tangle his toothbrush in his hair (again).
They don’t need to say that they miss each other. They don’t need to mention how time hasn’t quite eased the hollow ache they feel when they look to the empty space beside them each day. They don’t have to, because they both know it, and that’s what keeps them holding on.
Missing feels like drowning, but every video call, every message, every call, every photograph, every audio, every letter, and every ticket back and forth feels like a breath of air.
...
isnt 20th here yet but happy bday to oikawa my loveeee!! every day in july is tooru day <3
u can find me on my ao3 🍉
