#THANK YOU #someone finally put it into coherent paragraphs #seriously tho #a lot of these so-called “historical movies and TV shows” often have women characters that sound like modern-day Twitter posts #but in historical costume#AND IT'S SO JARRING #because like both of these posts say #women back in the day *did not* think exactly the same things we did #oftentimes most women were either resigned to their lot in life or were generally happy where they were #that's not to say that some women didn't complain about the double standards between men and women #because there were women who spoke out against societal differences and the hypocrisy behind it #BUT THEY OFTEN DID SO WITHIN THE MORES OF THEIR TIME #and just because not every women was pulling off her corset or her veil or cutting her hair short doesn't mean they weren't trying #to better the lives of their contemporaries or for the women who were yet unborn #trying to make historical women “look better” by making them sound like modern-day feminists truly does take people out of the film #and it's condescending to modern-day women as well #as if Gen X and Millenial and Gen Z women don't have enough nuance to understand that our women ancestors were doing the best they could #within the times of which they had been born #it does a huge disservice to the women who came before us to paint the majority of them as “sheep” or “weak women” #simply because a good chunk of them didn't question the societal norms in which they lived #all it does is circle back to Internalized Misogyny #wherein us privileged modern ladies look down our noses at the “useless” work our foremothers did #do some research and talk to historians why don't you Hollywood!

I'm getting so sick of major female characters in historical media being incredibly feisty, outspoken and public defenders of women's rights with little to no realistic repercussions. Yes it feels like pandering, yes it's unrealistic and takes me out of the story, yes the dialogue almost always rings false - but beyond all that I think it does such a disservice to the women who lived during those periods. I'm not embarrassed of the women in history who didn't use every chance they had to Stick It To The Man. I'm not ashamed of women who were resigned to or enjoyed their lot in life. They weren't letting the side down by not having and representing modern gender ideals. It says a lot about how you view average ordinary women if the idea of one of your main characters behaving like one makes them seem lame and uninteresting to you.

1. I have almost 1k playlists on Spotify (guys it’s so disorganized)

2. I wear a lot of dark colors only partially for the aesthetic, and lowk half bc deciding what to wear is too much work if u add in other variables like color (& I don’t feel super comfortable in colors)

3. I can sleep in v late, I have to set an alarm or I just won’t wake up until 1

4. I am a v habit forming person / my mind works like a broken record - I’ll listen to the same song on repeat for hours, I’ll eat the same thing every day for months, etc

5. I hate midday, but like mornings and nights - I wish we were awake from like 5pm-4am and from 7am-1pm
