The orb changed colors to white, like it could be the moon, but this orb was way too small for that. But it did rise above the treeline behind my house, and it scared me half to death, and made me freeze in my tracks on the back porch. I couldn't move, I was very scared. But then I watched as it just as slowly lowered itself back down below the treeline again, and when it did, I went back inside and locked the doors. Recently, I've been seeing more than one bright star-like object in the sky at night. It all begins with the 1 brightest one, like always. But as the night continues, I'll usually see twinkles of others. And the way I will know that they are all connected is that they will also shoot upwards just like the big bright object does, and they will change colors too, and dim and get brighter just the same. But these other objects are always much farther away than the 1 big bright star-light object. But I've always seen them towards the west. But always much farther away. Anyways, I guess I could keep writing about them. But I will just upload the pictures and the short video. The video doesn't really show much, other than a bright dot of light that I track for about 45 seconds in my back yard, yesterday evening. That is the 1 big bright star-light object. You just can't get a good view of it from my old phone camera on the video. But I took some photos right before taking the short video. And I am uploading the photos too. The photos I have zoomed in as well. So you will be seeing the short video, a set of photos of the object from the viewpoint of my back porch, and then where I cropped the pictures, enlarged the object, and brightened and sharpened it. You will see that it appears to be changing shape as I am taking the photos. And it is emitting off energy. Each photo was taken about 10 seconds apart.”

Honestly before this lesson I was a little scared of CAD, coming from a visual arts background this lesson was a daunting one, from perhaps being too slow in learning the skills to being left behind. I had some trouble with downloading Rhino 6 like many others so I did get annoyed in not being able to finish the tutorial lessons on Lynda. However I found that I just needed to put it into perspective, stay clam, keep trying and remain patient with these things. Luckily I played around with Rhino 6 with the help of a few students so I was able to figure out the things for my section of the group (RED). 

My role in the group was to understand how to create:

• Lines, polylines, curves, circles, arcs, rectangles, polygons 

• Control points 

• Objects to the exact size and orientation 

• To draw accurately using drawing aids such as object snaps and ortho

Above was the task given. I had two devices which allowed my group to complete the task effeciently without having to half the screen or flip back and forth.

Layering:

I really liked learning from peers, Louis from my group taught us how to make new layers, label them, to change line types and how to move selected curves to different layers.

Understanding how different layers work was useful in effectively singling out specific layers and editing them accordingly. Different colours unlike technical drawings made the gasket easier to read and identify details.

Throughout this exercise I was expereimenting with the colours of the background,learnt from the lynda videos,  in figuring out which colour would be most clear in communicating the layout of the gasket, hense the different coloured screen shots.

Our group decided to construct circles first, it seemed to be the centrepoint in other constructions. Using the command bar was intuitive and I really liked how you could specify working in radious, diametre and constructing different circles from different snaps. Offsetting saved time in simply copying the curve but ‘offsetting’ it so it could be reused for other dimensioning

Similarly, the array was super helpful in repeating centrelines, circles and curves with equal separating distances.

Reflection

During this tutorial:

I enjoyed… How rob organised the class, how we first met together in our respective colours to relearn and refresh what our colour was responsible for, I really liked how we split up tasks so we all had the experience to teaching others and learning from one another. Without this kinda learning I wouldn’t have learnt so much nor would have had that much fun. 

I found difficult… This was actually before class in installing Rhino 6 and learning tutorials off Lynda, I found it to be really long sometimes and occasionally it would lag. 

Next time…I don’t think I’ll be as scared of CAD knowing that I’m not alone in learning this program. Also being really thankful for peer learning and tutors that really make this whole process smoother and enjoyable. I would also like to do some more incremental saving, and just keep on learning more about Rhino with an open mind.

I originally started with a simple box around it.. but with the ever increasing size of the flipbook due to the number of pages, i opted to having just four legs coming out of the 2 centre sides that held the bearings in. However to make the stands abit different from normal straight stands I decided to carry the theme of the line drawn satellite and with the enlarged cross hatching idea i recreated that in between the legs of the flipbook. An added bonus to this that it adds more structure and support to the stands themselves. Which is definitely needed with the weight of the pages and real! This was the first time i got to see the pages flipping when they were put in reel, when only been able to make adjustments watching them play through on photoshop. But i think i got the movement of the spinning of the planets and the zooming in and out of the page quite well. I created this by taking multiple screen shots from my background space image with all the content needed. I then edited them all to the right size to zoom in and out of the page. Finally i think i have managed to achieve my goal of making a flip book that linked to the i want i want exhibition by my idea of showing the development of our evaluation of technology and us as humans always wanting more and to want to better ourselves and our creations.
