Love, Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Love, Theoretically has usurped The Love Hypothesis as my favourite Ali Hazelwood book. Let’s see if I can articulate why 😅
Like all of Hazelwood’s books, I found this incredibly easy to read. I flew through it, finishing it in a day or two (instead of sticking to the readalong schedule oops). It’s got the same humour, science references (which I loved because I like science, though I’m bad at physics), and some fun character cameos and Easter eggs.
I need to take a moment of appreciation for the side characters! Millicent is a riot; Greg is precious and deserves to be protected at all costs. I wish they (and Cece with her mysterious Kirk) had more page time.
My two favourite things about Love, Theoretically were Elsie’s growth and Jack.
Elsie is a people pleaser who adapts herself to whatever she thinks people want her to be, even when it’s detrimental to her life. I related to those aspects of her personality WAY more than I thought I would 🫣 It was empowering to see Elsie find a person she could truly be herself with and learn to speak up for what she wants and desires.
Now, Jack! Where do we find our own Jack? 😍 He was so supportive while also knowing exactly how to push and encourage Elsie to step out of her comfort zone and speak up. He’s also the definition of the “he falls first” trope and I admire he was willing to step back and wait for Elsie to be ready. Their opposites-attract relationship might just be my favourite of all Hazelwood’s couples.
Thank you, Hachette Australia, for sending me a copy of this one as part of a Tandem Collective readalong.

✨ BOOK REVIEW ✨
Serpent Sea by Maiya Ibrahim
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
[instagram]
Huge thank you to Hachette Australia and Netgalley for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a really great follow up to Spice Road! The story was engaging, the characters grew and changed even more, and we got to see sides to them we hadn’t seen before.
The plot in this one is consistently exciting and awful and genuinely had me on the edge of my seat. I kept having to remind myself to slow down because I kept skipping over sentences in my eagerness to find out what happened next.
Qayn is my absolute favourite and I really loved what this book did with him. Honestly I just love him so much and he gained so much more depth and intrigue in this book.
This book has so many complex characters. The inclusion of characters like Ulric, Skerrick and Bayek really made this story so much more rich and layered.
I honestly think this series could be 5 stars for me without the love triangle? I just hate them so much. But regardless, I am really enjoying this series and I can’t wait for the last book.

✨Review Time!✨
“You’re greater than any man laying claim to the name of a hero. The world should know the name Atalanta. They should see what you can do.”
I knew this was a book about one of the greatest heroines of Greek mythology but Atalanta by Jennifer Saint is something else.
It follows the ancient tale of Atalanta who was left on a mountainside as a baby to die but survives to become a legendary warrior and the only female crew member to sail with Jason and the Argonauts in search of the Golden Fleece.
The author does a wonderful job of bringing the character Atalanta to life. She is brave, powerful and determined. Even though she is forced to prove herself time and time again because people keep telling her she can’t possibly accomplish what she sets out to do because she is a woman, she never gives up. She never lets the opinion of other people stop her, instead she uses it to defy expectations.
The writing is lyrical and beautiful, and I read every word. The story itself is at times exciting, intriguing and heartbreaking.
I love retellings, especially ones of lesser known stories. I recommend this to fans of Greek mythology.
Fun fact: my name, Atlanta, is derived from the name Atalanta, so she has always held a special place in my heart. Thank you Jennifer Saint for writing this novel.
Thank you Hachette Australia for gifting me this copy to review.

Title & Author: Bat Eater by Kylie Lee Baker
Publication Date: 14 January 2025
Score: 98/100
Link: https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/a46723e0-0352-4b03-9523-bf45309e9f4d
Comments: Set during COVID-19 in New York City's Chinatown, the story follows Cora Zeng, who is haunted by her past. Cora works as a crime scene cleaner, and the recent clean-ups have led her to believe there's a serial killer targeting Asian women. Each murder is increasingly horrific, and the one thing connecting them is bats—present at each crime scene she and her team clean.
This connection brings up Cora's own painful memories of her sister's murder. Her sister was pushed in front of a train by a white man calling them "Bat Eater," as he fled the scene, the killer was never found.
To complicate matters, it’s the Hungry Ghost Festival. However, Cora doesn't believe in it until she starts to see her deceased sister following her, and soon, Cora realises that you can’t ignore hungry ghosts.
This book is honestly one of the best I have ever read. It offers a haunting and powerful perspective on life during COVID-19. Cora is an incredibly interesting character, and the way the narrative addresses trauma and cultural heritage makes it utterly unputdownable.
In my opinion, everyone should read this book at least once. It’s an influential and thought-provoking story that will stay with you long after finishing it.
Thank you Hachette Australia & New Zealand for providing me this book for review consideration via NetGalley, all opinions are my own.

BLURB   SPENCER: When I woke to my phone ringing just after 5 am on a Sunday—my only day off—it was safe to say I wasn’t impressed. I answered the call with an abrupt, “What!” The audible gasp and berating that followed had me grumbling, “Someone better be dead, Mother.” “After the relationship status you were tagged in on Facebook, no less, I very well could be,” was her reply. Relationship status? With who? I immediately clicked on the app, only to find it was true. Delilah St. James had one of those faces that was hard to forget, and I knew I’d never laid eyes on this pretty blonde with beautiful blue eyes before. I could’ve let my assistant, PR company, or my lawyer deal with it, but against my better judgement, I clicked on the Messenger app. “Do I know you?” I typed. DELILAH: When my sister decided to post photos of her—on what was supposed to be my honeymoon—with my ex-fiancé on social media, I did something reckless and impulsive. I tagged her long-time crush, Spencer Prescott, in a fake relationship post. The last thing I expected was for him to reach out. I apologised profusely and told him I’d take it down immediately, briefly explaining why I had done it, and he replied with something unexpected. “Leave it up. What can it hurt?” Minutes later, I got a friend request from his mother … immediately inviting me to brunch. I only agreed to go, so I could tell her the truth to her face. What happened next was a domino effect that would change the course of all our lives.     GOODREADS LINK: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/214320620-the-stranger   BOOKBUB LINK: https://www.bookbub.com/books/the-stranger-by-j-l-perry     PURCHASE LINKS   US: https://amzn.to/4f00rF8 UK: https://amzn.to/3zCGlkn CA: https://amzn.to/3zHwgmc AU: https://amzn.to/4eZcxys Universal: https://books2read.com/u/4jGLAY   Free in Kindle Unlimited   Also available   Paperback: https://amzn.to/4bKi1dz Special Edition Paperback: https://amzn.to/3xM0Ryr     AUTHOR BIO Jodi is a wife and mother, born in Sydney, Australia. Review & Wrap-Up:
Sisters and Brothers is written in third person but from multiple view points: Bill's, as well as his four children, Sarah, Emma, Adam and Michelle. It's an beautiful story of lies and secrets that eventually right themselves and create this huge family.
I found Sisters and Brothers to be a lovely story with so much heart and love. A few things were a little far fetched for me: What are the odds that three of four of Bill’s children would begin looking for him at the same time? How on Earth did Bill hold it together and bring these new adult-children into his life as easily as he did, with no resentment toward their mothers?
The only reaction that I felt was real enough to be genuine about these strangers was Sarah’s; how difficult if must have been for her to grow up believing that she is an only child, only to find out that she is actually the youngest four?! I do not blame her for having a difficult time letting go of her responsibilities of her father, and sharing them with these strangers.
Overall, Sister and Brothers was a heart-felt family drama, with lots of secrets, but even more love. Not my typical read, but I would highly recommend it to my mother and to anyone else who enjoys a book that tugs at the heart strings!
From one bookaholic to another, I hope I’ve helped you find your next fix. —Dani
Dani's Score out of 5: 📚📚📚📚
Pair it with: Rue de Perle Grand Vin de Bordeaux
A full-bodied Bordeaux blend with aromas of bright red berry fruits, black cherry and warm spice. Flavors of ripe raspberry and boysenberry pate de fruit are elevated by hints of pepper. The ideal partner to roasted red meats, particularly beef or lamb, or with spaghetti and grilled cheese sandwiches. You can buy a bottle here.
Start a conversation: How would you react if you were in Sarah’s shoes - grow up believing you’re the only child, only to find you have multiple siblings in the world?
Have a book you’d like to suggest or one you’d like me to review? Please feel free to leave your comments down below.
