Ohhh buddy I have THOUGHTS (This is so long, I'm so sorry)
1. I actually like Twilight better as a unicorn, she should never have became an Alicorn. (And that's coming from someone who first started watching around S5)
2. However, if Twilight becomes an Alicorn then all the Mane 6 should have been Alicorns. Rainbow, Fluttershy, Pinkie, Applejack, and Rarity did just as much as Twilight! Where are their wings/horns?
(That would have been awesome for the rest of the series!)
3. You are 100% right the tree castle is horrible. It's so barren and empty and so clearly made to sell toys. The library was nice and cozy and fit Twilight perfectly.
4. I absolutely hate redeemed Starlight Glimmer. Words cannot describe how much I despise this mare. You mean to tell me Twilight would throw a child into hell but let Starlight I-broke-space-time Glimmer go?? Absolutely not.
(Sunset Shimmer is a thousand times better and everything Starlight wishes she could be)
5. I actually like that Cozy Glow doesn’t have a backstory. Sometimes villains are just evil to be evil.
That being said, they should have at least tried to reform Cozy Glow. At the bare minimum put her somewhere other than (I can't stress this enough) PONY HELL!! She's like 12 Twilight holy shit-
6. Not enough people read the G4 comics. In fact, you should stop reading this ask and go read the comics instead. Most of them are online for free. I recommend The Return of Queen Chrysalis (1-4), Reflections (17-20), and Siege of the Crystal Empire (31-34).
7. MLP G5 isn't actually that bad, but it took too long to get off the ground. By the time it went from mediocre to good, most people didn't care. (Also Hasbro got greedy and G5 paid the price, but that's a rant for another day)
Also G5 should have been it's own thing, with no ties to G4.
8. Celestia and Luna should not have retired. Celestia I can understand, but Luna? Poor Luna just got back to Earth (or whatever the planet's called), no way is she retiring like 5 years in.
9. The CMC all having the same cutie mark was dumb. (And felt like a cop-out. Let my girls be unique!) Also the cutie mark designs themselves are just the ugliest things ever. Did no one teach that designer color theory??
10. King Sombra is best villain. However they should have picked literally anyone else to voice him in Season 9. Or even have the VA do a different voice! It's not even a bad voice, it's just not King Sombra's voice.
11. The Apples and the Pies are not related. Let me ship Marble Pie and Big Mac in peace. Let people ship Applejack and Pinkie Pie in peace.
12. Sugar Belle and Big Mac are a terrible couple. Maybe they were fine off-screen, but all we see is miscommunication. The only way that marriage is ending is in divorce.
13. I actually like that EQG used pony skin tones instead of human ones. That being said, there was way too much whitewashing—just use the pony's actual coat colors. I promise you can give Luna dark blue skin and it'll be fine. (How the fuck did Habro make the character with literally white skin even whiter?? HOW?? WHY???)
14. And finally (holds up megaphone): Just because Applejack and Rainbow Dash were seen together in the end, that doesn’t automatically mean they’re a couple!!!! —Sincerely, someone who thinks AJ and Rainbow are too similar to be a couple.
Ooooo ok cool I also have some thoughts LMAO. long post so read under the cut
I also like Twilight as a unicorn more than an alicorn but I do think it was right for her to become one since it was the climax of her character arc. The problem is that the show was meant to end after she became an alicorn and it went on for several more season :,) I think she was an alicorn for far too long
Not really sure I agree with this since it was only Twilight's destiny to become an alicorn. While it would've been cool to see them as alicorns and the whole mane 6 put forth equal effort to saving equestria, it just wasn't meant to be lol.
i saw someone's AU where the castle looked more like the student 6's tree of harmony and I like that a lot more, THAT'S how you design a crystal tree house ^^'
I like Starlight Glimmer and her unconventional approaches to problem solving, but man she did get off way easy for nearly destroying the world. I mean, idk, community service or something? Also why is Cozy Glow, a child, in pony hell? Why was she trapped in stone? How did the writers think that was an appropriate punishment but other characters like Starlight and Discord get redemptions? ToT
agreeing, no extra notes lol
I have a few of them! I've read the Nightmare Rarity and mirrorverse ones, I really love the comics
Agree with this one as well. G5's issues all come from Hasbro wanting to make even more money off of G4 and not allowing G5 to be its own thing like it should have. Hasbro, a toy company, should have made way more collectible G5 merch instead of the same cheap brushables of the same 4 characters over and over. I also saw someone on twitter make a good point that the G5 show should've aired on disney+ instead of netflix since that's what most families have nowadays. truly, G5 is just a victim of corporate greed
Yeah I always felt bad for Luna for that lol. If Celestia wants to retire good for her, but at least Luna should've have stuck around and helped Twilight. Can't image Ruler of Equestria is something you just get used to immediately, esp as one person instead of two like before
Totally agree, no extra notes
He's not my favorite villain, but he is fun, and they could've gotten a better VA for him lol. Or at least changed the direction for his voice? The VA is skilled and sounds good but the voice was a little too smooth IMO.
Yeah it was never actually confirmed so it's not canon. I wouldn't worry about shipping them cause the show writers clearly don't care lol
It's kind of forced imo. They're two random characters and I think they just wanted to use Sugar Belle again. I don't remember that episode well but ig discord was stopping them from seeing each other? idk they should've just gone straight to each other. just not anything I'm invested in
Agreed, they should've had their actual pony colors if they're not gonna have realistic skin. It was weird that rarity became pure white and luna was lightened so heavily. and why is celestia pink. if they were trying to avoid racially coding the characters they certainly failed that cause it just implies that they're all white
I think some of the writers said it was canon? Or at least implied since hasbro wouldn't let them confirm it outright. I don't like appledash either way, and can just pretend it isn't real lol.
#woof wow lots to say#asks#i dont really feel too strongly abt the show one way or another but yknow#i do love to have opinions

'Transformers One' Shows Diversity Still Operates in Black and White for Original Japanese Ideas
My introduction to the Transformers was through my cousins whose mother was born and raised in Japan and whose father had returned there after his parents had died in the US. Yet the science fiction action animation film “Transformers One” continues on a trajectory that ignores Japanese contributions to the creation and popularity of Habro’s Transformers toy line, despite attempts to bring…

KYLE RAYNER GREEN LANTERN
So feast your eyes on this fella whom I excavated today from my the bowels of my storage unit.
This is the Hasbro 1:6-scale (12 inch) Green Lantern from their JLA line circa 1998. There were only five 1:6-scale figures made in this line: Aquaman, the Flash, Martian Manhunter, Superman Blue, and Kyle here.
In addition to the difference in size, the 1:6-scale figures were fare superior to their 1:12-scale (6 inch) counterparts.
The first noticeable difference being the better figure sculpts and more realistic body proportions (although, since it wad the ‘90s, Kyle does have a grimace).
The second difference is the 1:6-scale figures have cloth costumes. Kyle’s here needs a wash; the white area of the costume has become yellowed with age.
However, the costume is sewn on, and I don’t think that Green Lantern emblem would survive a trip to the washing machine. So I’ll try a Tide pen and see if the white part of the costume brightens up.
The third difference is that the 1:6-scale figures are well articulated and possible (check some of my posts from October to see how unposeable the 1:12-scale figures are).
The joints are stiff and actually have a ratchet-like movement, which helps them hold a pose better.
Besides the nifty lantern for recharging his power ring, Kyle was also equipped with a cool-looking green machine gun with ammo belt. I saw both at the bottom of the box Kyle was in, but didn’t dig them out for the photos.
I would love to see a new line of cloth costumed, AFFORDABLE 1:6-scale DC characters again, like Hasbro did with this line. I think they would be great for collectors for whom the current crop of 1:6-scale figures is prohibitively expensive.
Plus, a line like this would be great for slightly older kids (6+) who are into action figures. These figures were well built in addition to being inexpensive, so you wouldn’t have to worry too much about them breaking.

the only thing that you know who is coming to Mandalorian S2 means is in december as soon as I paid the black series invoice i have to put down a deposit for ht rebelsoka
After two weeks of abstinence I'm looking at doll clothes again, but this time looking for customization materials. It's decided I'll get the Animator's Merida for Babysoka. Her face structure is probably not 100% replica but 1) I could use some help with the artist eye to actually name the difference and 2) she has the cutest smirk. I mean, she has a green dress. Probably going the same vein as a plush for the lekku. Epoxy and latex are common choices too but I don't have much confidence working with them.
Then I came across a Shaak Ti body and a more screen-accurate repaint of FOD Ahsoka's eyes. It made ALL the difference. I'm toying with the idea of assembling and actually athletic 1/6 S3 Ahsoka, and a TCW!Adult ver… then maybe a Rebels ver. if HT's not coming. One thing lead to another with these decade-old figures now I'm drooling over Habro 12" Barriss's fluffy cloak (ノ´∀`)ノ* too far down the rabbit hole now, and I tempt myself to just but a few* lego minifigs.
In other news, continuing the hunt for clone (helmets) to set up the finale scene. Only have one month to learn about building sandy/snowy landscapes. Kinda of lost on the 1/12 front, more interested in model kits, but Black Series is blasting with new releases. May actually get a Bandai model Vader so he can fight 'Soka. Really want the Meishou figure. And then a R2/R7 repaint ¯\_( ͡❛ ͜ʖ ͡❛)_/¯ eh this is how i waste my time not writting/giffing/drawing/sewing
#about to need a toys tag#pure speculation#sigh they're gonna release it under TVS but in rebels costume + a white cloak and staff ffs i hope she doesn't look like you know who#i hope the ghost crew got figures tok they deserve it but. lol idk which will come sooner rebels ht or rebels sequel#wheezing at the thought of bad batch pre-orders next year now how am i gonna save up for japan again (T_T)#+ Valediction! I finally find a mint-in-box FOD for my compulsive need#the only question is whether to buy all 17 of their stock (lol maybe gonna get two so I don't regret despite having THREE of the same doll)#the Sithsoka! idea came to me on a moped regarding my second TBS Ahsoka but I'm like big [eh?]#might have to sell some of my old rider/sentai dx to get my health bar back#and i still have no answer for the age old question if I would pre-order Obi-wan when they post it…#i need to start a do it for her board for a 40CM! Babysoka

The cover of a 1974 Toy Catalog for Ultraman Leo from Takatoku Toys.
Takatoku toys was a rival or Popy (a division of Bandai) in the 1970s and early 1980s. They copied Popy’s use of Die-Cast metal in plastic figures. Today, they are best known for their Valkyrie toys from 1982′s Super Dimensional Fortress Macross anime which were licensed to Habro after Takatoku’s demise to become the Transformer Jetfire.

Following on from all the reveals in Mexico, Canada Fan Expo took their turn for Transformers news, with a boatload of Studio Series surprises. Shockwave’s the biggest news, I think, looking an extra-sexy new take on a guy who’s always had the distinction of being a Movie character with more than a passing resemblance to his G1 namesake. Mixmaster and Scavenger bring us a couple more Devastator components, and Mixmaster in particular should be an appreciably better version than his messy ROTF toy. And there’s a new 2007 Movie Megatron mold, which has already caused some gnashing of teeth due to sharing a faceplate part with the earlier ST ROTF toy, and thus being inaccurate. At least his Masterpiece version just came out then?
There were a couple new Siege toys revealed as well, with Nightbird looking pretty nice in spite of Habro’s annoying insistence on only using The One Mold for any female characters in this line, and ‘Zetar’ absolutely slamming the Powerdasher Drill homage out of the already-sweet Brunt mold. So good times all around!

Back in the 90s my first exposure to ghost rider was the toys and comics. I have vivid memories but lost in the sea of others. Hmm. While I can't wait for habro's ghost rider with vehicle, I wish they would make a 12inch marvel legends ghostrider as well as the punisher.

I've read somewhere that the new merch will be released in November is that correct? And if so, to what extend? Will you be able to find it in toy stores everywhere or just in the Disney stores? Or will you just be able to see pictures of it released online? It just feels weird that you would be able to buy merch for a movie that's not yet released. Not that I wouldn't want it to be released that early but I don't want to get my hopes up :p.
The first wave of merch will come out on 1 September, which is Force Friday. So you won’t have to wait as long as you feared! We’ve already had first looks at the Rey and Luke figures, and we should get shots of even more of them later today as Habro are having their panel at SDCC.

Nerf updates laser tag with smartphone AR
There’s nothing like a great new toy to make you mourn the ghost of bygone youth. I don’t have the opportunity to try many out at this job, but when I do, there’s an invariable pang of jealousy for kids today who have much broader access to sophisticated playthings than we did in our day.
Nerf Laser Ops Pro is a pretty solid example of this. It finds the company combining a solid bit of nostalgic IP with some modern technology, to good effect. The new toys, which hit virtual store shelves next Monday, look like a Nerf, play like a Lazer Tag and incorporate your smartphone to help take them a step beyond what either line has offered in the past.
Arguably the most compelling bit in all of this is the price point, with none of the sets running more than $50. I have a vague memory of the original Lazer Tag system being prohibitively expensive in my youth — or maybe that’s just what my parents told me because they didn’t want any fake guns lying around the house.
There was, after all, some controversy with the line from the outset. Here’s a pretty depressing story from the height of Lazer Tag’s success that no doubt caused its manufacturers to rethink the product’s presentation. In 1998, the brand was purchased by Hasbro, and in 2012, it was rolled into the Nerf line.
The foam gun brand has always offered a warmer, fuzzier take on toy weapons, and that’s very much at play here. The likelihood of ever mistaking Nerf Laser Ops Pro for a real gun is slim to none. That said, true diehards will likely miss the Knight Rider-esque black and red vibe of the original product. But if that’s enough to ruin your childhood, it was probably already on shaky ground to begin with.
The more important question is whether Laser Ops Pro is fun. I only played with it briefly today (reminder: I’m an adult with a job), but I can unequivocally state “yes” on that front. Habro’s done a good job marrying the new with the old here. The guns are big and plasticky and hearty, combining digital technology with mechanical haptic feedback.
Smartphone use is optional, which is good for the little ones. When you add that in, however, you get the benefit of things like leaderboards, states and GPS tracking (all secure and private, the company assures me). There’s also a fun little AR shooting game you can play when you’re all by your lonesome.
The blasters will be available online July 16, with retail availability next month. They’re a solid summer purchase for parents looking for ways to get their video game-obsessed offspring up off the couch while the weather’s still nice.
