Week 2- Post 3

For this exercise, I opened YouTube and searched Turkish TV shows. In Bulgaria, a lot of TV channels stream Turkish TV shows. We call them sapunki which means “soapy" because they are all Dramas. A similar concept to this would be Telenovelas. I was interested in finding out more about these TV shows from the Turkish perspective. When I was in Istanbul, we took a boat trip down Bosphorus, and our excursion guide pointed out the homes of some of the most famous Turkish actors, which made me wonder if these shows were a big part of everyday life for people. Now, I want to take this through an academic perspective and investigate the significance of these shows in Turkey. In the US shows like Friends, Gilmore Girls, Grey's Anatomy, The Office, and so many others have a huge role in society. I would like to find the equivalent of those shows in Turkey. I am also interested if there are any derogatory implications in the labeling of such shows, the same way Bollywood can be offensive to Hindi culture.

Making this list, I noticed that a lot of the newest Turkish TV shows were released by Netflix, and although dramas were the prevailing genre, there were also a lot of comedies, crime, and science fiction. TV shows seem like a very interesting way to explore a culture, its representation, and the popularity/impact of those shows around the world.

I actually thought about it lmao   ---    being fictional demigods they can be of any ethnicity in the world ,  and I wanted to reflect that .   but given my current binge of diriliş ertuğrul i'm currently ,  exclusively ,  stuck in a world of Turkish excellence kjfkdhgkdjg .   which is a lovely place 2 be im just sayin it is conflicting    

I actually looked at several characters in the show and was like   ...   yh they'd made a great  [ insert character here ] .  but for Odin and Frigg ,  these are the ones I had .   adding after the cut bc u know .  big images n all that .
