to say that jihoon was living in the gold star recording studios would be an understatement. eve he finds it surprising how much time he has spend hunched over a notebook an a way too dimly lit room, surrounded by takeaways and scrunched up papers. honestly unhealthy but no one has told him that yet. he knows it very well and to an extend he doesn't need to hear it from anyone else. he's a man on a mission, just how he wrote his first solo album from feelings he wasn't able to confess to, he is writing this one to get things off his chest. he doesn't think he has called anyone a bastard, but there are first for everything.

he decides that after the fourth energy drink that evening, he will go for a walk, get some fresh air, something, anything to get his mind off whatever bullshit lyrics he had just managed to come up with. so with a loud sigh, a crash or two from pushed empty or half filled cans off the desk (by complete accident) some swearing, he exists the studio just to directly run into someone.

"shit, sorry-" jihoon spits out before he can even stop himself, tired would be an understatement. he fixes his beanie, hold his gaze low initially, bowing apologetically to the person. however, as soon as he straightens his back the need to walk back into that studio was pretty high.

"hyung-" since when does he call gyujeong hyung, he isn't entirely sure. who does he even call that nowadays? he shakes the thought away "hyung, can i ask for a favor?" there is no hello, no nothing. something tells him he can get away with it, at least for now, he will apologize later. later, he might not have it in him to ask his senior for a favor. so, like most things lately, jihoon takes the plunge without a safety net, pretty okay if gyujeong declined his request.

excitement of backstage had been brewing. then again, duri always felt the excitement when he was backstage somewhere. perhaps there was none and it just something that duri had been creating himself. but, he was alright with that. 

basically bouncing like a happy dog running through an area, duri had already felt pretty good because he was the second opening act for the evening, having already performed his own solo set. following that, he had gone back to titan’s dressing room to switch his outfit back, just so he wasn’t sat among titan in the simple outfit that he had worn for his solo stage. it wasn’t long, till he was back in the outfit he came in, ready to go back out.

however, it seemed that duri was going to be a bit longer, since he’s run into a familiar face that he hasn’t talked to in a while. a platinum member, someone who he always enjoyed talking to when they came across each other. “hi gyujeong!” he greets him, that usual smile on duri’s lips as he greeted the other. he kind of wipes down his own outfit once more, just to make sure there’s no creases or wrinkles.

minhee does not remember the last time he was at a concert that wasn't their own. it almost felt surreal the fact that he got to enjoy so many great songs, jump and sing along to a close friends on his's group. exciting, refreshing, he couldn't wait to tell gyujeong how good the concert was, as if he was the one that was on the stage. platinum really was the group for the public, great songs, great stage presence, so nice to watch them on stage.

he almost feels like a child wondering backstage to see a relative, smile wide and bouncy as he's guided around the corridors by the staff. after all, it was gyujeong who invited him to the concert, there was no other way that he could end this day but annoy him for as much as he was allowed. it doesn't take long, maybe a few minutes maybe more before he see's the other idol in the corridor and he feels like he can combust.

"how are you guys so good on stage, like wow- wow-" minhee speaks, almost as if he has been the one on stage, running off the adrenaline of the concert. he can't help himself but reach out to gyujeong, patting him well on the shoulder. "such a good concert, a great one even, enjoyed it so so much."

end the year blues — headcanon, aesthetic & playlist

summary — winter brings earlier nights, and that’s where he inevitably ends up dwelling in the end of the year. the end of the year’s always the hardest and loneliest for gyujeong, despite being the period where he’s the busiest career wise. the paradox brings this familiar melancholic feeling he can’t shake out, and it bleeds into the spring until the weather pulls and flowers start to bloom. winter time blue, seasonal depression — call it what you will, but it’s something that causes late night walks, feeling cold and then finally passing out until the sun rises and it’s time to repeat. playlist summary — end of the year also accounts for more music than usual. his earphones in his ears as he nods off to and from late night schedules, and even during it. the weather calls for some typical winter songs, and the peak of the ballad, slow-music beating through the speakers. beats will fall through from the time he wakes up till he falls asleep as he calls this his “white noise” getting him through the winter drought. perhaps, maybe in some warped world, he’d be listening to happier music getting ready to look forward to what’s to come in 2023 (but that’s not necessarily the case here). wc: 483

i’m aware that this playlist sounds / feels a lot more like minjung than gyujeong, but wintertime gyujeong is pretty similar to baseline minjung — aside from the fact that gyu’s probably a bit more sadder? melancholic? in general during this time

it’s less about sad boy hours, and more about just wallowing in wasted time. time feels wasted despite being busy. there’s staff around him constantly, but that sort of crowd just makes the sound feel more deafening to the point where his own voice feels empty

as a result, he’s reverted to just popping in his headphones and drowning out his own misery through the sounds of sad sounding music / crooning ballads

which, normally, he won’t listen to ballads but tis the season! people might be listening to jellyfish’s christmas song, or ariana grande, but gyu won’t budge and he’ll probably even be listening to these songs on christmas night

the thing about this music is that it makes time feel like it’s at a standstill despite it passing, and by now, he just uses it as the soundtrack to his life. meaning: when he wakes up, the playlist is played. and before he goes to sleep, he hits play to listen to it as he falls asleep

though gyu isn’t really a drinker, this is probably his most “experimental” era when it comes to taking a sip of beer or drinking wine. it obviously doesn’t end well because he ends up blacking out because of it, but regardless, he tries because it “fits” the mood.

if not, he spends his nights on walks where he’ll take walks in the cold dead of night when no ones around. basically, music in and he starts walking across hangang until his legs feel too frozen to move any further ,which then becomes his cue to go home.

other times, he’ll ride his bike around — for some reason, he doesn’t like to go on drives during the winter season. there’s no driving around, and more just walking or taking a bike to waste time and drown out feelings of bitter loneliness lmao

but that’s only when he has the time? mainly, end of the year causes really busy schedules for him because of award shows / comebacks that platinum has. thus, he really just gets transported by his manager and free time becomes a luxury (another paradox i know)

again, not really sad boy? but i would just reference winter gyu as an emo kid who says “this isn’t a phase”

less social and less likely to make friends, but if you’re persistent, it’s pretty easy to get him to come out and have a conversation. the initial encounter is the only portion that’s rough though, so someone become his friend during this time : ) he probably needs it

overall, winter gyu is just gloomy. that’s probably the best way to describe him. less angry, and more gloomy.

going to the platinum concert was a no-brainer for hyojung. all things aside, such as her friendship with the members, she believed in being a supportive company senior for all the groups within gold star. if she found the time in her schedule, she’d gladly go to any concert or fanmeeting that was asked of her. she was lucky this time around with yumi’s cells filming not having started just yet, and that’s how she finds herself backstage after the concert.

there’s been a lot on her plate with transit love, yumi’s cells, and selene’s comeback all sort of whirl winding into her life, but the concert was great, which wasn’t surprising at all. she hadn’t been able to catch a glimpse of the members just yet, so she’s chatting it out with a staff member instead when she finally sees a familiar face. 

the last time she had a conversation with gyujeong, he was drunk out of his mind, and she’s not sure how much of it he remembers. but hyojung’s a polite labelmate, and he deserves some kind of congratulations (even if he doesn’t want it). “congrats. the concert was really nice,” she states as he passes by.

SMTM11 Diss Battle Ep.7 Part 1

Background for people who may not have seen the episode yet or aren't watching: This year there's 3 rounds. 2 1v1 rounds and then a 3rd and final 4v4, or team, battle. The producer's can be dissed too (I'mm 1000% sure this rule was EXPLICITLY included was just so that QM could say something to Justhis lol. But never forget that Mino did it first on SMTM4 without even being told he could).

So Team Grillz (Groovy Room x Lil Boi) will face Team Slay (Slom x Jay). The solo battles are: Noh Yunha vs Youngji & Xinsayne vs Blase

Team Quiolin (The Quiett x LeellaMarz) will face Team R-Jus (R.Tee x Justhis). The solo battles are NSW Yoon vs Khan & Don Malik vs QM.

This post won't include the Team Quiolin vs Team R-Jus battles yet!

Diss Battle (Grillz vs Slay) Commentary:

Gyujeong was making some smart ass remarks at the beginning! We would've had to fight LOL. He was hella mean.

As for the Youngji battle: Her main line to me was that Yunha's peak is battling her. Basically that's all he'll ever be known for.

Noh Yunha's punchlines didn't seem like they were landing well. There was multiple punchlines of Youngji's were it seemed like the crowd was like "ohhhhhh". The Layone one was the best imo and the crowd really reacted to it. He said something like "You'll never be the winner of SMTM11 just like you couldn't win Layone" or something similar. I liked when he said "Even if Youngji loses this battle, one of you (meaning: someone else on the team) is going home". I thought Yunha started off weak but ended stronger. He ended up winning. I think it was the Layone diss that sealed it.

Jay said during his interview before the winner was announced "Its Youngji so I think she can count on her popularity for votes" was SOOO infuriating. Because yes, he's right. But I find it SOOO annoying when people vote based on their faves instead of who they genuinely think did better. I don't think fans can complain about "connections hip-hop" if they are only gonna hype up artists who they already are fans of regardless of who really did better. It's giving "kpop fans who mass stream and buy bigger artists even when it's a trash song/comeback" vibes. (Just for clarity. I'm NOT upset with Jay here. I'm upset at the people who do that type of behavior).

Xinsayne says at thebeginning "We only held LA preliminaries this year but I heard we have a British contestant" (referring to Blase) and I literally LOL'd (quietly though cause it's after 2AM right now). He also called him Coogie's lackey. Xinsayne had some REALLY good insults but a lot of them didn't seem to land with the live crowd. The "Movin' & Movin'" reference (ties back to being Coogie's lackey) was a good one.

It turns out that people weren't able to catch Xinsayne's disses cause he (I'm guessing) said it to fast. Based on what the other teams backstage were saying. So unfortunate.

Anyway, Xinsayne made a diss about Blase's name at the end and he ended up apologizing right on the spot. Blase was named by his granddad so that's why LOL.

Blase: Blase started off strong. Called Polodared (eliminated contestant from Team Grillz on the prior episode) while he was in the crowd (I think it might've been pre-recorded and Polo was just playing along) and Goney (another former member of Team Grillz). Polo said "Isn't that sokodomo's lackey?" when asked if he knew info about Xinsayne. Goney said basically "I don't know him". The point was that he's basically unknown and in Sokodomo's shadow.

Blase starts off with a chorus about "Sokodomo's lackey" but he also calls Xinsayne "sokodomo's d**k rider" in that same chorus. I was like "Damn, Xinsyane gotta take that apology back now" lol. That one was STRONG.

Also, Blase had a line about how his real name is "YongJoon" and so it's dangerous and he shouldn't drive. This is a reference to No:el and his drunk driving incident. No:el was mad a Blase when it aired (don't know if they squashed it or not privately by now though). I'd have been mad too tbh. Blase ATE him up with that one lol. Other than that I don't remember much about Blase's diss.

Blase ended up winning. IDK who it would have went to if Xinsayne's lyrics were more audible. Maybe still Blase though because the chorus was pretty strong.

Grillz is up 2-0 at this point.

Finally the team battle: Youngji says in a pretend conversation with Jambino "They live in Korea but say 'Gang Gang' all day" LOL. Then a little later Toigo pulls out this doraemon character but that character is a meme in Korea because he looks like their delinquents (he has a leather pouch and sleeve tattoos. They gave Fleeky bang a leather pouch to carry). The character did look like Fleek Bang tbh LOL. I don't feel like the team overall had that many good/interesting disses though. Toigo was just loud and performance was energetic. It was a good performances more than a good diss imo. They mostly focused on Fleeky Bang which was their whole point.

The one line they said to Chillin Homie was that they are glad he is in good health. It's a sneaky diss to him leaving SMTM9 early for mental health as well as other...episodes...he had after the show. "Healthy Chillin Homie" (건강한질린호미 was the phrase Toigo chanted).

Team Grillz starts their diss. My favorite lyrics was when Chillin Homie told Toigo "Don't wear your hat like that (aka the way Toigo is wearing it), wear it like this (aka the way Chillin Homie is wearing it)". Homie's lyrics overall were kinda mean lol

Then they basically said they don't know who Jambino even is when they were listing off all the members to diss them. They called him "Jamjari" which is Korean is "Dragonfly" but it has the same first character as Jambino. Overall, Team Grillz diss was MEAN! They had a lot of mean disses. They weren't super witty imo but they were just MEAN. Which is exactly what I like to see in the diss battle.

However, Fleeky Bang fucked up his lyrics. IT was going soooo good but he messed up.

So in the end, Team Slay ended up winning the round but they won't that round so overwhelmingly that Team Slay ened up winning the whole thing but about 20 votes. I think Team Grillz had a chance to win. Their chorus was still really catchy and it was a good performance (not AS over the top as team Slay but I think their mean ass disses could have edged the performance element out).

At the end, Team Grillz had to eliminate someone. They naturally eliminated Fleeky Bang. He gave a sad version of his trending line "gang gang gang".

I'm gonna go watch the R.Jus vs Quiolin battle after I go eat (it's about 2:39 AM here and I haven't eaten dinner yet. I'm gonna go make a burger and I'll brb).

ash could swear time is moving backwards. he’s restless to take his leave and each moment is longer than the last, succeeding in making his chance to break free from one uncomfortable situation to another seem further away by the moment. 

he’s not even hungry. the thought of picking at any of the seemingly endless array of food offered to them is so entirely unappealing, he hasn’t even ventured near that part of the house, and the shots he’d done before the awards show have long ago worn off. in theory, the afterparty is supposed to be a place to unwind, but he feels more wound than ever.

there’s no rhyme or reason to why he decides to take a seat with gyujeong in a relatively uncrowded area of the ordeal they’re trying to call a party other than defeat and the belief that gyujeong is at least someone who won’t attempt to force happiness on to him like some of the vaguely familiar faces who have called out to him tonight. 

“i don’t think anyone told the organizers of this party that afterparties are at least supposed to be fun,” he tries, testing the waters of conversation if only to give himself something to do. “i don’t know what i honestly expected from the people who forced us to waste several hours of our lives watching them autofellate themselves via guise of awards show, though.”

Ter crescido ouvindo k-pop, passando inclusive por aquela fase onde você tinha que saber absolutamente tudo sobre o seu fav e estar preparada a qualquer momento pra responder um questionário sobre seu grupo ult provar ser “fã de verdade” deixou em mim um péssimo vício que eu demorei um tempo pra realmente conseguir quebrar. Mas me deparei com isso de novo agora com o álbum do Gyujeong.

Eu amo toda e qualquer produção dos groovyroom, principalmente porque quase todo rapper que eu curto tem pelo menos uma música produzida por eles. Gyujeong e Hwimin são provavelmente os meus produtores favoritos se eu for hankear. Quando o Hwimin se lançou solo eu absolutamente AMEI todo o conceito de Lil Moshpit, o álbum dele com o fleeky bang é um dos meus favoritos da vida.

E agora que o Gyujeong resolveu se lançar solo também, eu não curti o álbum...mesmo amando as produções dele e ele em si. Simplesmente porque eletrônica nunca foi um estilo que eu gostasse tanto, mas CÖURAGE é inteiramente eletrônico(pelo menos, todas as músicas que eu ouvi pelo menos 1min inteiro). É muito estranho ainda no fundo ter aquela sensação de que não apoio o trabalho dele o suficiente, quando esse não é o caso, inclusive sempre quis que ele resolvesse se lançar solo como o Hwimin, mas acho que adorar o trabalho dele como membro do groovyroom me fez esperar dele solo um estilo que não é só dele e sim DELES(Gyujeong+Hwimin). Assim como os álbuns do Hwimin como Lil moshpit tem o estilo do Hwimin, os dele como IÖN iam ter o estilo dele, e não dos groovyroom. Eu projetei uma expectativa que não devia nele e isso me fez me deparar com um álbum que, pra mim, Anna! Não é atraente, enquanto pra alguém que curta música eletrônica esse álbum pode ser ótimo.

Isso tudo é só um lembrete (mais pra mim mesma) de que tá tudo bem em não curtir totalmente algum trabalho de algum artista que você goste, mesmo que você goste MUITO desse artista, isso não é ser menos fã.
