i like thinking about ruyanchefant marriage for many reasons but one of my favorites is the Namazu are absolutely head of charge in wedding planning since theyre ruyan's closest confidants in terms of the beast nation and the people he see as his community since he doesnt reconnect with his au ra community, and imagining gyoshin, gyorei, and seigetsu waddling through ishgard and standing around trying to plan abything with the fortemp family makes me smile. i just know those fish start yelling at the high houses with no care about what theyll be serving
#gyoshin absolutely makes all human attendees gift money to ruyan and chefant#designs special little packets just for it and delivers it to every attendee. asks twice as much from high houses

Amongst the civlizaed Namazu, names are generally formed from a combination of "gyo" and adding another ending syllable. Gyo is the Far Eastern word for fish.
For example:
Gyoshin
Gyohan
Gyorai

You can be so mean to the namazu OMG XD
The quest chain starts with you finding a half dead namazu, and instead of helping... the Warrior of Light prays for Gyoshin to not suffer long, and moves on with their merry adventure.
Turns out Gyoshin was still alive, so you stuff him into a sack and carry them back to Yuzuka Manor. 🤣🤣🤣
I have mixed feelings about them taking characterization away from you, the WoL is so rude to their fishie friends. The dialogue options are all one trying to leave. But I'm enjoying the slapstick of making the namazu be the narrative punching bags.
Also do not tell me to clean my bag! RUDE!!!😂😂😂

All of the above. In that order if necessary. That being said:
Asel does best with the moogle questline. This is due to her love of crafting and her fondness for them. Which can be seen as a little odd considering her dislike of Hraesvelger. Tarreson, on the other hand, has her respect as a fellow crafter.
Either due to possessing remarkable patience or optimism, Oscar works well with the Namazu. He gets along particularly well with Gyoshin. They're both a bit spacey and will sometimes sit and watch the clouds together.
Though not as knowledgeable as Urianger, Iskra handles the pixies the best of the three characters. They have experience with children from helping look after the younger Viera back home before they were sent off for training. They will sometimes be seen telling stories in Lyhe Mheg.
wolqotd
Would your WoL rather deal with moogles, namazu, or pixies?

LOVE IS IN THE AIR — 02
CHAPTERS: [ 01 | 02 | 03 ]
TAGS: [ isorawrites. » Chronogenesis » Tales from the Carnivals ]
LINKS: [ Tumblr » Story, Collection, Project | AO3 » Work, Collection, Series ]
MUSES: Sora Amariyo. NPC: Seigetsu the Enlightened.
02 — The Azim Steppe.
ET 8:00 AM
The warm weather and clear sky of Othard were a welcome change from the bleak coldness of Ishgard.
As Sora watched Shiro frolicking across the grassland, they couldn’t help feeling a pang of complication as they glanced around the Azim Steppe. Here was the homeland to their race, the Xaela tribes, and it was said to be where their kind originated from according to the legends—if only they were an Eorzean Xaela.
Sora wasn’t sure if they truly belonged here; nevertheless, it was fascinating to learn about them when they passed by the Far East highlands during one of their adventures. They would have liked to learn more about their race from their original home, but nothing was left except a gaping void, leaving them as the lone survivor of a world best left forgotten. Their lips tightened at the gnawing fear of the hazy memories of their past fading away and forgetting their true roots with each passing time, then they shook their head to clear their clouded mind.
While the Xaelas were interesting, the Namazu were a completely different matter.
“Yes, yes, we can complete your order on time if Gyoshin can keep his wits together,” Seigetsu the Enlightened scoffed and he sneered at his companion, which was amplified by his narrowed gaze. “In fact, we’re very grateful for you to come to us with this offer, Miss—I mean, Mister Sora. For our kind to be finally recognized and respected, the new era for the Namazu has come!”
“…Pleasure.” But first, you should really deflate that insufferable ego.
Luckily for Sora, Seigetsu couldn’t read the dark thoughts in their mind, and so he went on, “However, we also have a favor to ask of you.”
Here we go again.
“Can you go to Dawn Throne and collect, well, what’s-his-whiskers? The Nervous Namazu whom I don’t bother to recall his name.”
ET 8:07 AM
It nearly took seven minutes of flying around to find the Namazu lying in the moat surrounding the Oronir tribe’s current residence, half dying and all ready to be served as food.
“O-Oh, it’s you. T-Thank the Big Ones, yes… yes.”
“For Hydaelyn’s bloody sake, get up already.”
“N-No, no,” he stammered, still twitching with glazed eyes in the water. “I-I can’t feel my fins anymore. I… don’t even know which way is up, too.”
Rolling their eyes at the ridiculousness, Sora went down and stuffed the Namazu into the chocobo saddlebag.
“P-Please, please be gentle!”
“If you don’t shut up, I’ll roast you here and now. I still haven’t eaten my breakfast yet.”
And that silenced the squirming bag for the rest of the trip back to the festive stronghold of the Namazu, Dhoro Iloh.

In the upper-left, a dark blue banner says "Pre-Orders End Aug 30"; in the upper-right, a blue-white line of text shows the Twitter logo and "@FFXIVTRAVELZINE". The article excerpt reads, "Indeed, an interview with the three architects of the festival - Gyoshin, Gyorei and Seigetsu of Yuzuka Manor - reveals that their selfsame divine ancestor is to credit for the idea. 'Every seven hundred and seventy-seven years,' Gyoshin explains, '[the Namazu of the One River] must hold a seven-year celebration commemorating the birth of our tribe, yes, yes! Gruesome annihilation awaits should we fail to heed the Big One.' End Image ID] My partner @trarioven and I contributed an article on the seven-year Namazu festival to the @ffxivtravelzine! Sea’s 30 Day WOL Challenge (4): Tea
@seaswolchallenge
---
Ship: hint of WoL x Yugiri
Content Warning: Namazu
---
Gyoshin squeaked along as he moved from crate to crate, checking if the festival supplies were adequate.
That pompous ass calling himself the “Enlightened One” would start going on an ear blistering rant if even a single shred was out of place.
His eyes glazed over to see Elliot diligently working away with his frying pan, cooking up crafting materials. Gyoshin still had no idea how he was able to do that, but he figured it was the will of the Big One.
Elliot managed to finish and wiped the sweat off his forehead.
(Elliot) “And done!”
(Gyoshin) “Another hard day’s work, eh Elliot?”
Gyoshin squeaked over to Elliot and he nodded.
(Elliot) “Yup, but we’re close to the next goal for the festival!”
(Gyoshin) “I think this is cause for celebration, yes yes! Let us drink the night away!”
Elliot thought for a moment before nodding.
(Elliot) “Sure! It’s on me.”
Elliot brewed Gyoshin some tea as he brought out a bag that contained wine from Limsa.
They poured themselves a cup and began to make idle chatter. Then they poured themselves another. And another. And another. And another.
...
Yugiri had heard that Elliot came to the Far East to visit, and was on some casual work instead of rushing here and there to save the world again. He had come to visit Kugane, the Doman Enclave, and now the Azim Steppe.
She was granted leave from Hien to go visit her friend, and luckily the Domans had quick access to the Aetheryte here, albeit it was strange considering it was guarded by Namazu.
Regardless, she was happy to see Elliot again, it had been too long since they had spoke.
When she arrived at the aetheryte, she was immediately greeted by the Namazu.
(Namazu) “Greetings. You are Yugiri, yes yes?”
(Yugiri) “Yes. Is Elliot here?”
(Namazu) “In the tent, furthest table!”
Yugiri nodded as thanks and moved to the tent, the squeaking of the Namazu greeting her as she passed by.
She opened the flap and saw Gyoshin and Elliot drifting side to side.
(Yugiri) “Elliot. It’s good-”
(Elliot) “YUGIIIRIIIIIII!”
She barely resisted her instinct to jump at how loud he was. She always knew Elliot as a relatively shy person, to see him rivaling Gosetsu in volume was startling.
Elliot waved her over and she walked over awkwardly, grabbing a nearby stool.
(Elliot) hic! “What do we owe ya the pleasure?”
(Gyoshin) “Yes yes, any friend of Elliot’s is a friend of Gyoshin’s!”
(Yugiri) “Well...I was told you came to visit, and I didn’t want to miss saying hello is all.”
(Elliot) “Greaaat! I’m glad you-HIC! Came to visit!”
Elliot put a hand on her shoulder, the shoulder with the massive spike, and shook her a little.
(Elliot) “She trained my mentor, who trained me and....and...a lotta other people!”
(Gyoshin) “Those ninja folk, yes yes?”
(Yugiri) “Um, Elliot? You should probably not grab my that side of my shoul-”
Elliot continued to shake her until she accidentally lost balance and slammed right into Elliot.
(Yugiri) “Uwah?!”
Her shoulder had hit Elliot’s back and he wasn’t getting up.
(Elliot) “Ow...”
(Yugiri) “Oh no, Elliot!”
(Gyoshin) “PFFFT, HAHAAHAHA, YOU’VE BEEN HIC DRINKING TOO MUCH!”
(Elliot) “But...I’m fine!”
(Yugiri) “Elliot, you are not fine. Your face is on the floor!”
Yugiri helped him back up on the stool as she dusted him off.
(Elliot) “Thanks Yugiri...You should take a swig of this!”
(Yugiri) “The tea?”
(Elliot) “Tea, Limsan Wine, whatever’s your fancy!”
Yugiri chose the tea and calmly drank it as Gyoshin and Elliot looked like they were in another Star.
(Yugiri) “I think we can perhaps catch up better if you weren’t so out of it.”
She couldn’t help but laugh. This was a side of Elliot she didn’t get to see ever. In fact, she doubted many have seen him drunk, other than the Namazu.
...It was strange that these people were the ones to get his more outgoing personality out, other than what she saw of Ishgard.
Hilda seemed to be very good at tha-
SLAM!
Yugiri jumped again as Elliot’s face slammed against the table, snoring away.
(Yugiri) “E-Elliot?”
She shook him, trying to get him to wake up but to no avail.
...Wait a second, Limsan wine? No wonder he was completely gone.
She tried to pick him up, but he was a bit too heavy for her. Yugiri was by no means weak, but she struggled to even move with how heavy that wine made him.
(Gyoshin) “No worries, we got this! HEY EVERYONE!”
Several Namazu broke into the tent and grabbed Elliot and carried him away.
Yugiri followed them out as he was being carried to the aetheryte, the squeaking of their bodies slightly getting on her nerves.
(Yugiri) “You have my thanks, could we perhaps take him to the Doman Enclave?”
(Gyoshin) “Yes yes, of course!”
The Namazu tossed his body into the Aetheryte, hitting Yugiri in the process.
(Yugiri) “GAH!-”
FWOOSH!
At the Doman Enclave, it was a quiet night for everyone. Mostly everyone was asleep, except for Hien and a few guards.
Hien was taking a late night stroll with a patrol since he was unable to sleep.
He stared at the aetheryte and paused for a moment.
(Hien) “How far we have come in such a short amount of time...”
He began to reflect on how many years had passed, the blood, sweat, tears, and lives that were given in order to liberate Doma-”
(Yugiri’s Voice) “AAAAAH-”
THUD!
...And he also began to think on what the hell just happened to have Elliot passed out on top of Yugiri after being literally thrown out the air.
Yugiri struggled to get Elliot off of her with how heavy he was.
It was only then she realized just how close to his face she was, and her face started to heat up.
(Yugiri) “C-Come on, Elliot! Please get off!”
(Hien) “Haha! I see your visit went well, Yugiri.”
(Yugiri) “L-LORD HIEN?! It’s not what it looks like!”
Hien grabbed Elliot and put him over his shoulders.
(Hien) “He never struck me as a heavy drinker, but I suppose he can still surprise everyone.”
He smiled as he helped Yugiri up off the ground.
(Yugiri) “T-Thank you, Lord Hien.”
(Hien) “And do not worry, I will not utter a word of this to anyone.”
Yugiri sighed in relief.
(Hien) “Except Elliot.”
(Yugiri) “HUH?!”
Hien laughed as he carried him into the Enclave’s main building to put him in a futon.
The cold breeze of the night was barely enough to cool down her burning face.
Squeak!
(Gyoshin) “It’s been one of those days, huh?”
(Yugiri) “WHA?-Why are you even here?!”

fight me magnai
Magnai: Lest you think I condone your behavior, know that I do not. For a khagan to cavort with Namazu bespeaks questionable judgment. Me: That’s rich coming from you
More Namazu quest text behind the cut! (I picked the bits I found most entertaining. There is a lot more to read, though.)
Gyoshin: Her gaze is still most cold, quite fearsome. Is her face stuck that way? Sadu: You again. What is it this time? Gyoshin: We are here to express our gratitude. To give thanks for your help with the archery contest! Via these persimmons from Namai, yes, yes. Sadu: An odd gesture, but not unwelcome. I will taste this curious fruit. *After Gyoshin leaves, you can talk to Sadu again and she says this* Sadu: I do want to eat this, but...how?
Gyoshin: Must he make that face? Is it necessary? Magnai. To our dismay, we have seen the enormous, grotesque statue you erected on the cliffs. It displeases us to suffer such an eyesore, though I will commend your artisans’ skill. Gyoshin: ...at least part of that was uncalled for. How uncivil. Anyway, we come bearing persimmons from Namai. As thanks for your explanation of Azim Bökh, yes, yes. Magnai: Ah, an offering. In that case, I will permit it.
Cirina still wants to eat Gyoshin. Cirina: I admit I thought it strange, that the udgan should speak of a person resembling a catfish. But I am happy to have met someone so delici--deft of hand. Gyoshin: I am unsure whether you like me for my skill or for my flavor, yes, yes, but I thank you nonetheless! I hope to see you at Dhoro Iloh someday.
